Reviews of Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site
Had the pleasure of meeting Daniel, our host and a very professional guide. He was able to provide a lot of information, that helped you understand how Benjamin Harrison lived. The house has plenty of artifacts and artwork to keep the tour interesting.
I highly recommend visiting this awesome Indiana historical land mark.
I am so in love with this stop. Even with the home under partial renovation, there was still plenty to learn and see. If you love history, this is a MUST SEE! You won't be disappointed.
Fantastic example of turn of the 19th century Victorian style upper class homes. Lots of artwork and artifacts. The second and third floors currently under construction but it’s well worth the visit.
Outside garden plaza has replicas of the bill of rights, constitution and Declaration of Independence.
The Harrison family was very involved in 19th century US politics so you will learn a lot about the period.
This was a great visit. The guide was knowledgeable and fun. I visited near Christmas so the home was all decked out. So many authentic items almost 85% of the items were there when the President lived here. Great history, background and story telling from the guide.
The home is really well done and authentic. This is a great living breathing real piece of American history. This is one of the best Presidential homes I have seen.
I've been many times over the years. For house tours (the guides are so knowledgeable about our former President and his family), Easter egg hunt, their seasonal plays, and hopefully this year for New Years Eve. The house is stunning with 80% of the collection from the family.
A beautiful place with lots of cool things about it. We went during a renovation and it was awesome to see all the items that were from the time period as well as the restoration of such a beautiful place. It was awesome that there was one rug left from the time that Benjamin Harrison lived there. I hope to visit again when all the Christmas stuff is up.
Great tour and definitely worth going to if you like history or need something to do on a day off.
Such a unique historical experience. Pat was such a great tour guide, which a rich knowledge of history and fun story telling. Great experience and preservation of history!
Fantastic place. Literally stepping back in time. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered questions throughout. Lots to see and feel as you walk through this historic site. Best thing to do in Indiana!
Fantastic site and Mike the tour guide was amazing so much knowledge. It’s a really great place with so many owned pieces. Totally worth the trip.
This lovely historic mansion is truly an Indiana gem! It is chock full of original items (80%) and beautiful antiques. My 8 year old and I learned so many interesting facts about this fascinating man.
I’ve visited house museums all across the country, and I feel lucky to have this gem in my city! The guide was an excellent storyteller and carefully incorporated artifacts that shared the history of President Harrison and the home. I highly recommend for Indy locals or anyone stopping through.
Such a great treasure to have in downtown Indianapolis. I got a great tour and learned a lot. It would be great to see the rest of the house that was closed off when I was visiting. I parked right next to it in the street on a Sunday. Easy to get in and out.
I have been to 7 Presidential Homes, this was one of the better tours. I felt like I really learned a lot about the time period, his family, and the president. Any one passing through Indianapolis's should take this tour. The house us really a unique look unto the time period.
Really interesting. Tours of the house given every 30 min by very knowledgeable guide. Tour guide gave very detailed descriptions of each room in the house and gave tidbits of information on Benjamin Harrison. The home was kept as historically accurate as possible, with lots of added items from presidential history.
I'm a history buff and since I'm in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana for a short stay I decided to visit the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, home of the 23rd President of the United States. A national historic landmark, the stately 1875 mansion has been restored with over 10,000 artifacts, including furniture, clothing and artwork. This Victorian home takes you back in time and since the Harrisons were members of the elite of Indianapolis, you get to see how the other half lived in the late 1800s. Really enjoyed the tour of all 3 floors of the mansion. The tour guide was excellent. If you're visiting Indianapolis anytime in the near future, carve out a couple of hours to travel back to the Gilded Age and see the home of the 23rd President.
We had a really good tour, so much history in this little house. I learned a lot about a relatively unspoken of President and what he worked on as president. Great for any history buff or school group Id say.
I went to the Benjamin Harrison Presidential home today! It was like a time capsule! The house was beautiful. The lady doing the tour said that 70 to 70% of everything in the house was original! They also explained that the light fixtures were converted to electric from oil. The furniture and wallpaper was a site to behold! I loved that the hard wood floors were the original floors from 1874! The carpet was also the original in the front room! I think this is a must see place on your getting to know Indianapolis 😀
It was a nice mansion. The tour was fairly quick, but about the right amount of time. The tour guide was new and didn't have a lot of info outside of what she had been taught. If you asked questions she usually didn't have the answer, but that takes time.
They did a nice job of staging the house, and there was a lot of good information.
Great guided tour. There's military and veterans discount. 2 adults totaled $11. Tour is about an hour. Mostly original stuff inside the home.
Nice tour, but as a warning not the best for small kids. We brought our three y.o. and two y.o. The tours are pretty quiet with only the guide taking and no background noise with everyone in the same small room. Be aware of that. Otherwise our guide was knowledgable. The only thing we did not care for was how much knowledge he shared. Weird, I know, but let me explain. He talked about just about every single item in every room. At the end of it, we honestly couldn't remember much because of how much detail he shared. Some might appreciate that. (As a side note, I definitely recommend Andrew Jackson's hermitage in Nashville. Kid friendly and they share the big important info.)
Great visit! President Harrison's home is very well preserved and maintined. We enjoyed the tour and learned many interesting facts about President Harrison and his family. Highly recommend! We happened to visit on his birthday and enjoyed some birthday cake!
Now this is a excellently historic house and a good example of how a president’s residence should be maintained!
Little gem in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood. Tour was about 1.5 hrs long, very informative and interesting. House was restored beautifully with most of the original furniture.
We were not allowed inside because of COVID, but did participate in a porch tour. Want to go back when we can see insides. Grounds were immaculate. The original structures were amazing.
Historical Mansion of U.S. Pres. Benjamin Harrison.....many Docents in period costume, all very knowledgeable about the property. Visitors center and bookstore in former carriage house. Local garden clubs restoring the original heritage gardens. Mr. Hyde, skilled at taking care of visitors and school groups ! Fri. Oct. 27 , 2017..they hosted the IN. STATE DAR...for the placement of an official marker for..MRS. CAROLINE SCOTT, HARRISON..a force in her own right...an excellent painter, excelling in painting orchids and birds on ceramic plates.
Wonderful informative visit during a 5th grade field trip. Enjoyed the basement lesson from the passionate guide. Beautiful home.
Love this place! Such a fun experience caroling. And everyone was super nice. 10/10 will go again!
This was a great museum to visit! Our docent was well informed and gave a very interesting presentation. There were so many period pieces to be seen and so many things that actually belong to the Harrisons. additionally there was an elevator to take a person up to the second floor.
Amazing experience. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for something to do in the area with history.
Absolutely wonderful historic site with so many items that belonged to President Harrison- highly recommend!
Our docent is 21 years old and incredibly informed. I brought my camera which was fine. Just no flash photography. My children are 9 and 10 and they both held on and didn't get bored the entire time. There are some very steep stairs you will climb, though I thought I read about an elevator. I was a little disappointed to learn that many of the artifacts aren't original to the home. Also, I think one of the side notes our docent told us was incorrect. Helen Keller signed a document. She mentioned her teacher as Alice. It's Annie Sullivan. But not a whole lot to do with our visit, either.
Editing to thank the museum for replying! Our docent led me to believe it swung in the other direction. Fantastic! I still ended up taking 256 photos!
Very beautiful and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the president and his family.
AMAZING!! BEAUTIFUL HOME!!STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE (added just a few pictures)
Really great tour! Our tour guide was awesome and very knowledgeable of the history of this Presidential site! Thank you!
80% of the furnishings are from Harrison's collection. Glad I took the tour. I enjoyed the family photos and historical facts.
I was a previous garden volunteer at this house in the rose garden. I really enjoyed the Croquet Roquet event and signed up for a future event! 🎟️🎫🎫
It was an opportunity to meet some great people who were volunteers, college students and professionals.
They have a parking lot for their volunteers and off-street parking for museum visitors.
Handicap Access: The main building and a separate building with public restrooms both have handicap access. Elevator assistance is available with advance notice in the two-story museum.
Ok but our tour was very limited by a croquet tournament the day we went. Nice mansion, nice guides but small compared to other presidental museums...
Easy to find parking, beautiful home in a very quiet neighborhood.
Great place for kids that might not even be into history. Tour guides are fun and super knowledgeable. I came here on a field trip in the fourth grade and had a great time, came back chaperoning my brother’s field trip and nothing changed. Large picnic space
Cool place to visit. Not super large. The only way to enter the house is by going on tour they seem to sellout quickly so I would book in advance.
My wife and I visited the home and took the tour and had an excellent time. Gary Smith, our tour guide, was very informative and entertaining. We left with a greater appreciation for President Benjamin Harrison, his family and his home. If you have the chance you should visit the home and take the tour.
We enjoyed touring the house. When you first arrive, there is a parking lot in back accessible from N. Talbot Street, the street behind the house. Park there instead of on N. Delaware St. if there's space available. There are public restrooms by the lot as well as a small building where you purchase tickets and begin the tour. It also houses a small display and gift shop. The house itself is lovely and we learned a lot about Benjamin Harrison, his two wives, and even his grandfather President William Henry Harrison. The cashier in the back building said the tour would be an hour and 20 or 30 minutes long, but ours actually ran 2 hours. It was great to get so much info, but we also spent 15-20 minutes in each room, which was long, and my group wasn't even asking a lot of questions. There was one folding chair in each room for sitting, if needed, but it was definitely uncomfortable standing still for so long. Proceed with caution if going with fidgety children or people with inattentive characteristics.
Great tour with Orren; just the right length and fascinating history
Very well maintained and interesting! It was nice that most of the rooms are not roped off and could easily be viewed by walking through and seeing items up close.
The best part of our visit was the guide. She was so informative and interesting. Lots of details not only about this beautiful house but also about its many occupants. She talked about almost every artifact in the house and was never dull. Add time to your visit to walk the neighborhood. Also you should know this property has an elevator for less able walkers. There are three floors to visit!
Renovation in progress, so some areas closed. Tour guides are very friendly.
Definitely one of the better presidential home tours I've been on, even better than some museums I've visited. We came near the end of the day and got "stuck" with Gary as our guide. So glad we did. He was so knowledgeable and had a true passion for the history of the President, as well as the home and collection of antiques. My daughters loved learning the fan signals and still refer to Gary's instructions. Our tour went over the time limit and I didn't even realize it! I could spend all day in there. I didn't have a chance to thank Gary for such an excellent tour because he had to run to assist someone in the gift shop. Thanks, Gary - you are a wonderful guide, even my girls commented on your in-depth knowledge and how much they enjoyed the tour. I highly recommend this tour. Ask for Gary! You won't be disappointed!
Our Class of 5th graders had a great time.
Downright amazing!! Perfect for history buffs. They did a beautiful job of restoring the house to what it was like when Harrison ran for president. Andrew Miller was our tour guide and was sooo good! He seriously made the visit so much fun, testing us on our history knowledge! He had so much enthusiasm that made the visit one of the best tours we’ve ever had!
Our family had a great visit to the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. Our volunteer tour guide, Mike was not only knowledgeable but incredibly personable. He answered questions we had to the best of his ability and interacted well with our six year old.
The tour itself was incredible. Unlike many others of its type around the country, you are able to go into each room and at times, delicately touch items. You truly get to immerse yourself in the lifestyle. If you have small children, make sure they are well prepared to be handsoff or don't bring them.
The price of admission is fare as the property is very well kept. There is a modern and clean restroom house on the property for multiple people.
The docent tour was really, really good and 90-min long. Wonderful that 75% of the furnishings are original. Very reasonable price and well worth a visit. Actually covered ground for two presidents! A true gem for Indianapolis! Keep up the great work!
Guided tours through President Harrison's home. Beautiful home built 100 years ago. Most furniture is original, very interesting for Indiana history buffs. Free parking, no masks for vaccinated folks.
Great tour with informative guide. Really enjoyed our visit!
Such an interesting and thorough tour! Our guide was quite knowledgeable and taught us so much about the Harrisons, who we previously knew almost nothing about. The house has so many original items and is beautifully decorated. The tour only takes about a hour and a half. It's a place worth visiting.
Amazing amazing experience. Missed the last tour for the day and the manager personally gave us a private experience. Super knowledgeable individual. Must do all we can to preserve this American treasure.
A great way to learn about our 23rd President. I have a new found appreciation for his administration and his support of women's rights and environmental causes. His wife was a gifted painter and her work is displayed throughout the house. Our tour guide was terrific!
We went for the Birthday Party celebration. Only the first floor was open at the time but it was really neat. My preschooler was a little bored during certain parts but my 5th grader loved all of it. I would love to come back for the full tour.
Please hit thumbs up if this review is helpful.
My cousin and I love ❤️ living across the street from this wonderful property. We have been apart of many functions in this year of 2019. We have enjoyed the many flower beds of color also this spring and summer seasons. Would like say, to others who come across this historical site in your searches for places to visit, please stop in and enjoy a taste of history from Indiana.
This was the first Sunday they were open in January. Our tour guide was amazing. We have 3 boys and our tour guide interacted with them and made it educational and fun for them. Well worth your time to see this home.
Great historical home with much information for all individuals with presidential interests. The tour takes you throughout the whole house and lets visitors see many artifacts from the Harrison family life. A majority of the items present are from the family collection. Recommended for everyone interested in one of the few Indiana Presidents.
My wife and I visited July 2014 and enjoyed it tremendously. The volunteer tourguide, Orin, was excellent! He knew just about everything historically about the home and family. The house is kept in excellent shape. Took about an hour for the tour. Highly recommend.
Tours start at 10:30am. You have to ring the doorbell and wait a couple minutes for the Tourguides to greet you. Cost is $10/adult with discounts for children, Seniors or AAA members. No camera flashes allowed.
The house is magnificent and the people charged with its care go beyond knowledge to true understanding of the home, the Harrison Family, and the sentiment of the time.
Themed tours throughout the year are excellent! They are approximately one hour and under $20. Highly recommended
The Civil War dinner is pricey for an event so it is best to consider it a fund raiser. "Benjamin Harrison" and his "Aide de Camp" provide interesting information while prepared questions for the guests help stir lively conversation. Recommended
This tour is a great opportunity to get out during the pandemic. Tours are limited to 6 people at a time. The tour guide was knowledgeable, and the house and furnishings are in excellent condition.
This was a great tour. The house's furnishings were beautiful, and we learned stories behind many of the pieces. I liked hearing about the less known president, Benjamin Harrison.
The tour guide Jim was informative, humorous and friendly.
The guide was informative as she explained the 16 room house and all its antiquities and vast history.
This home is beautiful and so full of history! We had a wonderful tour guide (Daniel)and learned a lot about a President we knew very little about!
Very detailed tour of the elegant home of a seriously underrated president. The proportion of original objects and pieces of furniture (north of 80%!) is extraordinary. It was also fun to learn about Harrison's family, especially Carrie the First Lady, William Henry Harrison his grandfather, and Elizabeth his accomplished daughter.
If you're a history buff or just need something to do while in Indy, visit the Benjamin Harrison home! I love architecture and you will fall in love with house! It has been restored perfectly and the tours are always full of great info and facts! Be careful of the back stairs...they are very steep!
Jayne and Robin were nothing but great. After walking around a bit and talking to Jayne we decided to take the tour with our 3 kids. Glad we did. Robin was very knowledgeable and receptive to our questions, especially from our youngest one :D. After the tour I asked if I could pick a few basil leaves and they said a few would be fine. To the marvelous ladies Jayne and Robin, thank you, the basil tasted so good with the coconut-lime salmon last night!
The house was a great representation of American history. Bob, our guide was quite knowledgeable on the subjust but spoke much on the military efforts around the president and not so much on the house & family. Overall, a lovely stop.
Excellent staff, very informative docent presentation, and wonderful historical landmark.
An amazing tour. The staff went above and beyond for our group. I would recommend a visit.
Well kept piece of history. I enjoyed the well informed tour. Just know at the end of the day, it’s essentially just a historic house. Nothing too exciting beyond that. But still a good visit.
Barbara, our docent, was so gracious and informative. As a native Hoosier, I had no idea that Benjamin Harrison was from Indiana and that he admitted more states to the union than any other President. Just learning interesting facts like that makes the whole tour interesting. I would suggest this tour for anyone visiting Indianapolis or even for local residents who want to know more about their 23rd President.
Our tour guide was a very personable and knowledgeable young woman. She went into alot of details about Benjamin Harrison's home and life, both public and personal. Very interesting.
Very nice site, well maintained and nice to visit an historic home that contains many of the original furnishings, not just "period pieces". Beautiful home with lots of history, a wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Historical landmark, that is wonderfully maintained by a local private company.
Our volunteer tour guide was fabulous! We enjoyed learning some local history. The home has an amazing collection of actual Harrison family items.
I never thought I would want to learn about the 23rd president of the US. The home was awesome and the tour guide did a phenomenal job of powering through a crying baby while keeping us engaged and not irritated. If you're a history buff or just want to learn about a president that isn't widely spoken about, I would come here
We just walked on the outside and there was not much to see.
We took the tour and loved it. Bob was our docent and he was full of interesting information. The tour was supposed to be 1.5 hrs long, but was closer to 2.
The most Prestigious home in Indiana. Don't miss a tour of the President Benjamin Harrison home. The story is about his ministry, lawyer duties and most important his supportive family which included his artist wife. Come back for lawn croquet and garden tour in the summer.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable and was great with the kids. Tour lasted close to 2 hrs and our 8, 10 and 11 year old never complained.
Very cool. Tour guide did a great job and the house was beautiful
The Benjamin Harrison Presidential House was definitely worth the visit! The reenactors were very convincing, believable and entertaining. I plan to bring my grandchildren back for a visit.
Absolutely amazing field trip! The staff is wonderful!
Tire guide was very knowledgeable and spent extra time with us animal all it questions. I never realized what a dynasty the Harrison family was. Benjamin Harrison v signing the declaration of Independence, William Henry Harrison serving as our ninth president (briefly), and of course Benjamin Harrison serving one term between the two Grover Cleveland administrations.
Our wonderful docent, Ellis, was so knowledgeable, we loved hearing all about the fabulous history that took place in that home and city. Highly recommend visiting!
Was closed, even though it was listed as open on their website.😥 grounds are pretty …
Loved it so glad we came!
Great place to go when you visit Indianapolis. Very informative and fun. Remember to buy tickets in advance.
Free mini tour on the 4th of July. Pleasant employees (maybe volunteers) in the terrible heat and this house is a wonder to see. The Harrison's were there (actors) in full character. Learned a lot about our country's history and our Presidents. I'm going back for a full tour.
$12 entrance fee was well worth the money because the guide was very knowledgeable and spent over an hour with us. Very interesting and a lot of original pieces.
We had an excellent tour. Beautiful property, so much history.
This was a great tour and the staff was so wonderful and helpful!
Very informative and the furnishings were beautiful. Can recommend to anyone who finds themselves in Indianapolis.
Great informative tour of the home of our 23rd president. Very kind tour guides and staff ! One of my favorite presidential sites I’ve visited.
great old house with lots of original furnishings. Our guide, Bob, was not use to showing the house to old folks. He was giving a history lesson. Had to interrupt him and get a shorten version
This is a beautiful historical home that President Benjamin Harrison built in the late 1800. They offer tours daily at a reasonable cost. I found the tour to be interesting and informative.
Really interesting tour. Most of the contents of the home are original. Inexpensive entry for about an hour long tour.
Oren was an amazing guide, loved the history and home!
This place was amazing. I went with my son's 4th grade class on a led tour. It took 45 minutes and it was fascinating. I believe tours are free.
We visited the Mansion during Twas the night before. They had lovely actors sharing stories of traditions for the season it was really nice.
I was watching a PBS show & learned about Benjamin Harrison. I hope to visit this location in the near future. I have only lived in Indy for 2 years. If not for Public broadcasting station I would have never known this place existed.
Pretty cool historic house, if you like such things. Pres. Harrison was the first "modern" age President, using such new technology as typewriters and telephones. Everything is remarkably well-preserved.
Got there right at 2 and was able to get in on the last tour of the day. When it was over, the gift shop was CLOSED!!
Great tour, wonderful gift shop. Would highly recommend a stop at the site, plan on 1.5 to 2 hours of well spent time.
Our docent tour guide, a former 1st grade teacher, made our experience very informative, educational & interesting! A very worthwhile visit!
We picked the perfect day to come here. The reinactment actors were excellent. They were very knowledgeable of the history of the family and era.
Very interesting. Lots of period items. Worth seeing.
Molly was a great tour guide, I learned a lot. Awesome house!
Great historical information, awesome tour for educational family trip. Staff is courteous and very informative.
Took my grandson to the Easter egg roll he had fun and we toured the first floor of the house but watching the little kids do the Easter egg roll was really funny
The hostess was very friendly and knowledgeable. Very cool art and historic furniture in there, and a beautiful garden outside.
Stepped out on the huge yard, walked on the wide expansive front porch and imagined his friends and family playing, talking. His side garden with sundial and coach house in back. You ought to stop take a stroll, and imagine.
The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, previously known as the Benjamin Harrison Home, was the home of the Twenty-third President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. It is in the Old Northside Historic District of Indianapolis, Indiana. Harrison had the sixteen-room house with its red brick exterior built in the 1870s.
The guides made American history come alive. The furniture pieces and decorations were very authentic.
OUTSTANDING!! Possibly best preserved President's home and a chance to learn about BH.
President Benjamin Harrison's home and site gets better and better! Thank God for the donors and volunteers!
Great tour. So much information and the home is gorgeous. True Victorian interiors.
Fascinating history and all authentic. So pleased we came to visit. Very friendly volunteers too.
Just go! We spent a couple hours there learning from the guide, and simply admiring history we previously knew little about. For curious minds, this is a gem.
A wonderful Historical place to visit. I was with the DAR twice now. I would like to go back for a visit with my Granddaughters.
Very awesome place, both the house and the museum. Certainly worth a visit!
If you enjoy history, it's worth a trip. The staff gives a good presentation and are knowledgeable about Mr. Harrison.
So cool if you like history or Victorian architecture.
Outstanding. The docent, Courtney, made it a very enjoyable and educational visit. This property is a national treasure.
Awesome tour guides. A lot for information for a small place. Ton of history there.
Tour guide was great and the house is in superb shape, glad we stopped here
Hours are misleading. Even though the hours say they close at 3:30, the last tour starts at 3:30. The gift shop does close at that time, however.
This is the best way to experience what it was like in that time period. It is a great experience and I highly encourage everyone to take a tour here.
The home is in wonderful condition. The exhibit was interesting and well worth the trip.
Able to take leisurely tour of home and ask questions. Learned lota about 23rd president. Well attanged with historical period pieces
I love Benjamin Harrison’s Home, I love learning about it, but now, I know everything about him and his family, it’s beautiful and interesting!
Very knowledgeable guide. Beautiful home and grounds. Attractive old Indy street.
One of the best presidential sites my husband and I have gone too.
Very nice everyone there was friendly definitely definitely a great way to learn about history
I would recommend taking a tour of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. I have been twice and loved it both times.
Visitors can see right now the house decorated for Christmas. Chat with President Harrison and first lady Caroline.

My boys loved the tour. We learned so much!
Great old home with many original furnishings, and a terrific slice of history.
Very well kept and interesting. ..especially as a follow up to William Henry Harrison's home in Vincennes
Tours take about 1:15 but full of interesting information.
Went through with my sons class field trip. Found out some interesting facts about the period.
Visited many times. Fascinating. Beautiful. Historic.
What a famous American family this president and the first lady did so much more than I was even taught in school
Always a happening place. Enjoyed three, one act, murder mystery plays this evening.
Enjoyed the tour today as part of the Juror Appreciation event.
Wonderful, informative tour. Lots of original to Harrison family artifacts.
Very historical!
