Reviews of Nethercutt Museum
The cars in the collection are beautiful and you can see them for free which is nice of the owners to let people enjoy their collection. Eduardo explained to us the history behind the collection and gave us a lot of insight to further appreciate the collection. Would definitely go with plenty of time so you can truly take in all the detail and beauty of each vehicle.
Kyle Irwin gave the most excellent tour of my entire life. You're a real gem. The museum has an abundant collection of history and the stories behind it is truly unique. I highly recommend taking your loved ones to see and experience the magical experience short of Willy Wonkas chocolate factory!
If you consider yourself a true car enthusiast i double dogg dare you to take the tour. You'll thank me later
The museum is awesome, but if you go you have to do the $10, 2 hour tour in the building next door - that’s where the real show is. Exquisite cars and things from times long ago. 😀👍
Truly amazing and free! A great place to visit for anyone interested in cars, especially cars from the 20s-50s. Some simply amazing showpieces and an excellent display of hood ornaments and other parts. A must visit.
This place was absolutely amazing if you truly appreciate old cars. Definitely alot of car history under one roof. Had a great time here and the staff is truly amazing and friendly definitely doing this again
The main museum is open to the public without reservations, but there are more collections only available through reservations, so if you want to see it all, paln ahead.
Wonderful showroom full of amazing cars from several decades, most from the 1920s. There is a steam locomotive on the side that has tours at 12:30 and 3:30, don't miss it. Truly a spectacular collection.
If I could give it more stars I would! What an amazing, breathtaking array of cars!
The main museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday and you can visit for free. We incidentally arrived at 1:15 and learned that for $10 per person we could get a tour at the large multistory building across the street. We thoroughly enjoyed the food tour and couldn’t believe that it was only $10!!
The condition and maintenance of these cars is impeccable. The selection of cars includes rare models that you’ve probably never heard of. What a treat and a feast for the eyes.
We concluded our day with a 3:45 tour of the train in the back with the California 100 car. Great example of how the upper class used to travel.
We highly recommend this museum and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
I Have not seen one of my best friends for a little while then visited me, we decided go to Nethercutt Museum I Silmar, Ca . To be honest my first time at some car museum I was very impressed to see beautiful antique cars all brands and another never I heard about them huge and very clean place, ideal for all ages.
Free! To see the cars and train. A donation to keep it going helps. Always a great place to visit. When I visited on a Friday afternoon you need to show proof of Covid vaccination and wear a mask. The place is packed with cars. So the isles are wide enough so you can pass another person. It will be difficult to maintain 6 feet. At the time there were maybe 20 people so it was easy to turn around and see something else. So much to see. Very thankful to the dedicated people who keep this place alive.
WOW! Not sure where to start....I'm not a huge fan of cars but if you look at the style and design this car collection they are works of art 😎
The huge collection of musical machines is fascinating too. Oh and don't forget the train and private car.
Please look at my photos.
If you love old cars, this is a must stop. They have an incredible collection of old cars, many in mint condition. They detail and paint jobs on these cars are extraordinary. They each have places that describe the car facts and owners over the years
There were so many fantastic classic cars, music items, typewriters, hood ornaments and other items that my head almost exploded! I'll have to return several times to begin to appreciate the quality of their offerings. This place may be the definition of trying to drink from a firehose.
Fabulous free museum with genuine caring staff (not just cars). We will return again and do the full tour. 100% recommended 👍
We toured the free part of the museum, it was fantastic! Beautiful cars, super friendly staff and an overall great time. Plan ahead if you want to board the train!
What an amazing experience! I didn’t even realize this location existed, though in fact it was the original building of the two.
This building requires an advanced sign up for a guided tour, which is completely free!
Make sure you check on their website and put in a request at least a couple of days ahead of time to make sure you will get in.
the second and the newer location is also free to the public, but does not require advance notice, you can just come in during their opening hours and walk around, each building has its own select vehicles on display so I would advise going to the guided tour first, and then spending a few hours back at the other building across the street to see the rest at your own pace.
Awesome Museum at a great price of admission (free). Several award winning cars. Simply breathtaking.
Best of the best! I have been to many automobile museums such as Ford Motor Museum, Petersen etc. I have seen cars that I didn't even know exist before. They have really well selected pieces and also very well experienced, kind, helpful staff and curator. I will definitely come back and strongly recommend anyone to visit.
Great place to visit! Fantastic collection of prewar automobiles. I went there to see a very rare 1960's vintage Ferrari 365 GT California. Thank you!!!
What an incredible collection! The cars, the musical marvels including the pianos and organs, the train, the trophies, and many other pieces of art! What a wonderful and admirable way to preserve our past for our future!
This is a beautiful place. They have a large collection of vehicles from the 20s and 30s. They also have a large collection of spark plugs, hood ornaments, brochures, awards, lights and their own library. The staff is fantastic, always willing to answer questions. Take the time to go through the train and check out some beautiful interiors, you are also allowed to enter the engine. Free parking and free entrance, just be sure make reservations for the tour across the street. Plan ahead for that.
Gorgeous cars is perhaps a huge understatement to how magnificent these cars truly are. A must see!! Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Spend a day exploring some of the finest examples of car history. Beautiful working music box collection too
I was fortunate to visit this incredible museum before they closed for the season earlier in the winter. It was off the beaten path and my relatives who lived in the area had never been there. Still, I decided to make the trip and it was well worth the drive! Vintage cars and organs aren’t a typical coupling but it works here. The history of auto manufacturing and sales along with the stories attached to their impressive collection on orchestrions, nickelodeons and organs gives a glimpse into the greater history of the turn of the last century and its innovations. Staged in the opulence and polish of a vintage dealership, it isn’t hard to imagine the pomp and circumstance that was car purchasing. No balloons or massive sale signs...all marble, mirrors and grand staircases. The docents there were so informative I actually started taking notes. Car and/or music enthusiasts will love this place but I urge anyone interested in the history of our country to make the trip if they are anywhere in the L.A. area.
what a surprise! More than a car museum , the musical devices , cant call them instruments, were incredible
Amazing collection of gorgeous vintage cars, all fully operational... And across the street is the Nethercutt Collection, 4 stories of cars, automata, and musical instruments including the biggest Wulitzer you'll ever hear.
Astounding collection which includes some far-lesser-known automobiles. These include both the Franklin and Dort. The museum is FREE and the docent friendly and knowledgeable. It is worth the visit!! Plus, there are a locomotive and Pullman car outside. Stunning car interior!
Fantastic and free vintage car museum. Full or beautiful and beautifully restored cars from the early to mid 20th century, these gorgeous vehicles are well presented and hosted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. A real pleasure.
Note that admission to the "collection" building across the street (also free) requires advance reservations.
LOVED IT! Everything and everyone there was so nice, beautiful, pleasant and happy! The collection is even more impressive! Definitely a place to see. Everything is free. There are a diverse group of people of all ages. Simply a must see!
A huge collection of magnificent cars from the early 20 th century to 1950s. Particularly strong in Rolls Royce and classic American marques. The museum is free and open daily. But across the road is the Collection. Still free but booking required. This has 4 floors of cars !
An amazing experience!
So many cars. My dad, son and I spent almost 2 hours here on a Friday just strolling through admiring all the rare cars. It's a great museum hidden in the valley. I would pay some money to be able to visit but you don't have to since it's always FREE!! It's is really an amazing collection of rare and old cars.
Beautiful cars and exquisite musical instruments.
For Saturday tours, make reservations about 1 week in advance through the website. Children under 10 are not allowed on the tour, but there seemed to be some on our tour. The tour is about 2 hours and everything is free!
FREE ADMISSION!! Tons of antique cars that give you a real nice taste of history. We only visited the small museum with the train but it was interesting nonetheless. They had a room playing historical clips and a bunch of other items along with the cars. Not crowded at all. We toured the train outside. Overall great experience!!
It’s absolutely a hidden gem close to LA -
Museum is free / informative and absolutely paradise for someone who is fan of vintage cars.
Upon reservation one can get a guided tours please call the facility prior going. I went there post rose parade 2018 :)
This place is such a hidden gem. Once inside you will be mesmerized. You won't be able to see everything in one trip. Stunning, gorgeous, beautiful and elegant. Cannot say enough. This place has art, cars, instruments..... Just the most amazing things. Something for everyone. You have to check this out.
Amazing museum.
Truly incredible cars and the railroad car in the back is something you have to see it is absolutely spectacular
While I haven't been to many, this is probably one of the greatest collections of classic and unique cars. You can visit the main museum floor most days, since it is open to the general public, but you will have to set an appointment take the tour.
If you want to see a model 'T', railroad cars, muscle cars, Deusenbergs and other wonders of the automotive world, you can find them here.
Get introduced the most unique player piano and various special music boxes and an even an Organ whose pipes take up a complete ballroom.
If you never heard an Orchestrion, there is an amazing collection of them here.
One side of the street houses some of the best examples of early 20th century luxury automobiles and it's free. Rolls Royce, Packard, Franklin, Bugatti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Cord, Daimler, Mercedes, Talbot Lago and a lot more.
The building across the street, reservations only for a guided tour. Check their site for further information.
I wish I could give it 6 stars. Dozens of rare, beautifully restored vehicles, displayed in emaculate setting (designed like the old fashioned show rooms). But beyond that, the Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson locomotive and Pullman are perfectly restored as well, to the point you can walk into and through. Then there are other gems like the entire floor dedicated to extremely unique musical instruments, hood ornaments and more. Take the time to take the guided tour. It's awesome. Great hosts and docents. Even if you don't have time, the self guided tour is amazing. Oh and it's all free. 100% FREE. Can't say enough about this museum. Totally hidden in Sylmar of all places. Visit it!!!
This place is great! It's a free car museum but they accept donations. It's small but it has a lot of awesome cars to look at. They have another location across the street if you call ahead and make a reservation you can get a private tour on Saturday. In the back of the museum there is an old-school train that you can actually walk inside of. You can ring the bell, which is very fun for the kids. It will probably take you about thirty minutes to an hour to thoroughly explore the museum. Hope this helps.
Take the time make the reservations and go to the main hall the cars you can go in anytime and wander through the collection great place for older people to reminisce and tell stories about people they knew that had some of these cars
Beautiful collection of vehicles sitting on an unfortunate carpet pattern. There's another collection across the street with a more sophisticated setting available by signing up for a tour. Both collections are free.
Don't miss the locomotive and sleeper car exhibit in the back. They will open it up periodically for a walkthrough.
What an amazing car collection. This is a must see, these cars are pristine and all in working, driving condition. They have cars from car manufacturers I've never heard of before. This is really a special collection.
Free guided tours of 300 better than new old cars and fantastic working old pipe organs and mechanical orchestra instruments.
Amazing collection! Buy tickets for the private tour across the street. Well worth it!
Take the free tour (reservation required), then go across the street and have free access to car museum. An excellent outing.
I just visited the Neskert Automobile Museum and I was shocked by this amazing collection of cars and music collections. We have had a wonderful time here and the tickets are free.
The train tour is phenomenal
Best museum and more cars and items for 1920 years and more
Small compared to Harrah's in Reno but well worth the time. Excellent collection of well restored cars. They even have a Packard Marine V-12. I definitely drooled over the Hudson Hornet. EXCELLENT
This Museum is impressive you need to see more than once Truly Beautiful Homer
Awesome! Impress your out of town vintage car loving guests with a visit to the museum.
Absolutely outstanding! Their expert guide was incredibly knowledgeable and expert on the cars, the player pianos/orchestras, and the music boxes. This will be a trip no one would regret!
World Class Collection! Amazing experience. One of the finest collections in the world right in the San Fernando Valley!
Unbelievable! Fantastic and more. Curator was the best. Makes the tour come to life!
Nice car museum. Free admission. I highly recommend a visit.
Awsom unbelievable collection ,the cars are secondary to their collection music making devices ,Iam so shocked its free the tour is on thurs fri sat and its an absolute must
Gotta come to understand why European 🏰🏤 cars are better than their American Counterpart.
Amazing!! The cars! The train cars! Just no words! I must see the Nickelodeons and stuff across the street!! Can't wait to go back!!
Superb quality of all exhibits. Free admission. Book ahead and do the tour.
I had never heard of it and was a little confused when we were told we weren't going with a group of friends. And I'm actually glad we did! It is one of the most interesting museums in southern California. I will be recommending this to everyone who asks what to do. Just needs good food nearby.
Beautiful place! I recommend this place for everyone who loves cars
Magnificent. That's all I can truly say. The cars, the hood ornaments, instruments and most of all, the organ.
This place is amazing! A scavenger hunt brought me here but the collection and the nice set up kept me here. I will definitely recommend this spot to others. I look forward to coming back and spending more time here :)
Such a great collection! Take the tour across the street, it's worth it. The train is under reconstruction so you can't visit inside.
If you live Vintage cars, this is the place for you!
Highly recommend!
Wow, really impressed with all the cars. My kids enjoyed walking around the museum. What a great experience and that fact that it's free was a plus.
Awesome FREE place to take the kids or just go for a fun day ! Love this place! Must visit in the valley !
An awesome museum filled with super interesting exhibits! I highly recommend visiting! 👍 …
I love this place is spacious it is very nice and clean and the people are very friendly and it's free
Probably the best auto collection in US. The condition of the cars is superb. The info provided about each car made my children read a lot about history of auto industry in US
Really good people who like the history will love it is like taking a walk through the past and they are in perfect condition
Beautiful and classy. The cars are amazing! If you are a car lover, piano, organ, or even a music box lover, then this is the place for you! Top it off with the classic look of the ball room (for the cars) and curved staircases, it's brings back the old Hollywood/historical feel. I love this place! Have been bringing back people so that this kind of venue can continue to be appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful time!
Was very interesting very cool to check out all the classic cars.
Great place to visit for adults and kids. A gem.
If you like cars, it's your place for the weekend
An absolutely wonderful hidden treasure in Sylmar. And it is 100% completely free, even parking.
Enjoyed our visit here every time. Staff is friendly.
Well maintained museum, good to see cars of yester years
Great way to spend an afternoon. Fascinating
Beautiful well kept restored cars
Very nice museum. Beautiful cars. Very good information and very clean. I really recommend this museum to anyone. Was a great experience
Amazing museum! The tour was great, and the Curator entertaining, knowledgeable, and talented.
Free museum, good Docent 2 anwser questions, interesting collection

The great museum! Very beautiful ecspositions! My sons and husband were delighted . Workers of museum are wonderful people! Thanks them! Recommend this museum for everyone!
this is the best automotive museum the Peterson is better equip for children however this is completely free!
Such a wonderful collection of old cars!!!
I was just there in early July 2015. It is absolutely amazing collection of unusual models of antique cars as well as furniture and music boxes and early talking machines. The cars are maintained to be in running condition as well as pristine appearance. It is a definite must see for any antique car affectionado. Take the guided tour it is well worth the time and you can't beat the price. The atmosphere of the museum and the collection is astounding.
There are 2 Venus.one is a two hour show that requires a ten dollar fee and a prior reservation . The other is a free self tour of some 50 or so MAGNIFICENT autos . The two hour tour consists of four of the most sublime autos ever made. The remainder of the show is of good ornaments, self playing organs and not of interest to me and boring actually.
5 Star +++! The museum is free, BUT RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Beautifully and lovingly restored antique cars and elegant and intricate 'player' (like piano or wind-up) music boxes. You will see AND HEAR the third largest theatre pipe organ in the World.
Guided tour lasts about two hours, but make lots more time to see aisles and aisles of restored cars in the other building. Then go see their restored train and feel transported back in time and see how the upper class traveled in style.
Free parking.
I love ALL the classic cars! This museum is free, and they offer TIMED free tours of the private collection across the street, so make sure to check their schedule and be there on time!!!
They also have a train in the back that was used by one of the family.
One of the best museums in Los Angeles
Over the top fantastic! If you are into vintage automobiles that are authentically restored after extensive research, this is the place to go. Also, if you are into vintage music and the machines that play them, wow! Words cannot describe how amazing the autoplaying music machines are and the incredible sound that issues forth from them. You have to go in person to take in this incredible place. And it is all free!
AMAZING place for antique and classic car lovers, and those who appreciate the beauty of music. This museum is divided into two buildings that are across the street from one another. To enter one of the buildings, the showroom and music rooms, one must make a reservation. Everything is FREE to the public, thanks to the generosity of the Nethercutt family.
Great place to visit. 2 different museums and 1 is free to get in and the other 1 you will need a reservation the is $10 per person.
Very interesting museum, nice that it's free! We did not visit when both museums were open, so only saw mostly early automotive sedans and limos, plus one Corvette. Cars are meticulously restored and maintained.
This is an incredible Auto Museum. Their Grand salon is like a 1930 auto dealers. Beautiful marble. Beautiful classic collectible cars. On the second floor, amazing organs and music boxes. This is a wonderful place to visit. I come here at least once or twice a year.
Every vehicle was a work of art. The staff and currator were amazing and extremely knowledgeable. The total experience was outstanding and will definitely visit again and again.
This is a hidden gem! If you have any interest in cars than you have to check out the Nethercutt! Everything from Rolls Royce, to fancy turn of the century cars of every possible style. Plus they have a train locomotive and a pullman car. It's located outside behind the main building. This automobile museum is certainly a treat for anyone who has any interest in cars! The best part... It's free!
For anyone wanting to see how cars were made before the throwaway generation, this is the spot.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Nethercutt Museum, especially the guided tour (reserve your spot online in advance). Kyle who leads the tour is absolutely amazing and so engaging; he brings the exhibits to life with his enthusiastic and knowledgeable presentation. Their automotive collection is spectacular, but they have much more than cars to enjoy and learn about. To top it off, it's a beautiful facility, easy to get to, with free parking and admission. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could!
Lived in Southern California for 18 years and didn't know about this place, it's amazing!
A fantastic museum. Hundreds of perfectly restored antique cars. If you love old cars you will love this place. Even if you aren't particularly interested in ok'd car this place is dazzling. If you visit be sure to take the tour. The pipe organ is amazing.
Nethercutt's is not to be missed whatever time of year it is, but the annual Christmas concerts are especially wonderful
Extremely good displays and excellent tour guide. A real eye opener at no cost. You can learn about musical history and automobiles and technology history as applied to the arts all in one place.
COOL vintage car museum with lots to see. Also, visiting this place is free! Definitely worth seeing if you're around the San Fernando Valley. The employees are enthusiastic to talk to you about the collection and they know their stuff.
Superb, diverse collection of painstakingly restored cars, including lineups of Rolls and Pierce Arrows. Comprehensive automotive reference library. Very nice atmosphere. Free admission!
I wasn't too thrilled at first about going to a museum about cars, but boy, was I surprised! This was a fantastic museum! The cars were gorgeous, the tour guide phenomenal, the hood ornaments (thousands!), and the musical instruments just fabulous! It's a free tour, but you need reservations. It's a HUGE collection owned by the owners of Mary Kay cosmetics. It's off tge beaten path, up in the valley, but well worth the trip!!
We had been to the museum, across the street, but weren't able to make the tour. The tours are in the multistory collections building across the street from the museum. Came back specifically for the tour, and it was more than worth the drive. You can't buy this stuff. A lot of it is one of a kind. The Duesenberg Torpedo is a custom-built automobile. You can only see it here, and it is amazing. It's priceless in value. For us to see it? It's free! You can't get in it, but you can get so close to it that they ask gents to remove their belt buckles, rings, and watches. There are other automobiles that are almost as impressive. Not into cars? How about mechanical music boxes? Not the little ones. Some are as big as a living room wall, and sound amazing. The Imperial piano--97 keys, instead of the standard 88. It's big, and unique. The Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ--over 5,000 pipes, and able to reproduce all kinds of sound effects. This is not a sterile tour giving you the technical facts. Guide, curator and head of maintenance, Kyle, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the items, all kinds of weird and funny tidbits about the collection. Really worth experiencing. The building has elevators and is wheelchair and walker accessible. Stroller accessible, but not the best place for young children. There are excellent restrooms and water fountains. Free parking at the museum.
Awesome place to check out vintage cars. Each vehicle is in pristine condition. Lots of antiques to check out with live music played on a antique organs! One of the coolest things about this tour is it is completely free! Make reservations!
I had not heard of this place before. I just googled things to do near me. This came up as one of the things. It is absolutely amazing. My nine-year-old son and I had an amazing time. So many incredible cars and other things to see. A super cool classic train that we took a tour of. There are other things too that we didn’t do, but I have to say this place is great and surprisingly it’s FREE!
Awesome collection of old cars.
This is a great free museum located in Sylmar, Ca. If you enjoy viewing classic cars then this is the place to be. The museum is divided between two buildings right across from each other. The main museum is the one story building and you can park right next to it. I particularly enjoyed the guided tours and the silent movie films events held throughout the year, all of which are free, which are across the street in the three story building. You simply sign up ahead of time to reserve a spot. I thought the inside was very beautiful especially the second floor with the curved staircase. At the very top there are no cars but there is a display of awards the cars have won in shows as well as antique furniture and instruments that still play! I thought that was very cool.
Awesome and free hidden gem. This place should be a must-visit for car people or those with interest or nostalgia for the Jazz Era. Tons of cool musical instruments, curios, toys, and memorabilia at the Nethercutt Collection, but don’t forget to get a free reservation in advance.
The Museum single story building side is " FREE" to the public. They are currently open three days a week - Thursday, Friday, & Saturday: time: 9am to 4pm.
Great experience for free! Lots of history here, a must see!
Guys love this place! I'm not really interested in cars....usually! But this place is so amazing that you get hooked in the first few minutes you are there! It's a must see for everyone, at least once. There is more to see than just their classic cars. ( although that is reason enough)😊It's free too! …
Beautiful collection of cars through the early years of automotive development. Each automobile is perfect6 restored/preserved and wonderful to admire. It's a great story of human ingenuity and engineering coming together in remarkable ornateness.
This is a museum every parents in LA should know about! It's a car museum that is absolutely free! Full disclosure, I wish there were more exhibits for kids to do, so really I feel like it's more of a 4 star then 5 star thing to do... BUT, being as big as it is and being FREE, it deserves 5 stars.
Try to plan your visit right for when they open the train in the back. We missed that. Additionally, there are free scheduled tours for adults only to see the collection across the street that is supposed to be unbelievable with mechanical instruments and whatnot. I can't wait to go back and see that!
If you like old school cars... Packards, Fords, Plymouths, Bugatti's, etc... this place is for you!
What can I say about this museum that would fully explain how great this place truly is. Thanks to the Nethercutts for having the for site to keep this museum open to the public. Finest collection of pre Ww2 cars I've ever seen along with some great post war cars in the collection. Call to see the private collection to get to see one of the rarest cars in the world the one of a kind 1933 Duesenburg.
If you like vintage cars and antique music boxes, this is the place for you. Excellent facilities, awesome exhibit pieces, and fantastic staff. Best part is, it is completely free. Must make a reservation to see the collection side of the facilities.
Very nice experience lovely cars great pieces of history and well displayed
I would of gave five stars but the security there was quite rude I had leaned over the railing to have a better look at then inside of the cars not touching them as they make it clear he came and said to not do that or else I will be removed and saying sorry it won't happen again he just walked away in a very rude demeanor
Other than that highly recommend to check it out
Incredible variety of vintage, historic cars. There is also an antique railway car. There are 2 buildings of beautifully restored cars. Best thing about this is the admission is free. It's a little out of the way but very worth it.
That was the second time I visited Nethercutt Museum but this time I got to take the Merle Norman guided tour. That private collection took my breath away. If you like classic old cars even a little bit and old music instruments you need to get blessed by this place. I lived it, Thanks to all the volunteers and staff that keep it up and so beautiful.
What a great visit. Had little idea what I was about to see. They have they done a great job at restoring vintage cars and more to origional working condition. Even the vintage furniture is there to sit in and experience. Well done and it is all free.
An amazing collection of very old, very well-kept cars that’s free to visit. Will have to do the tour next time to see the Wurlitzer in action.
Who would of thought the rarest, most expensive car in the world is sitting in a nondescript building in Sylmar. Even more amazing, you can walk up to it and look inside. No ropes preventing you from enjoying this collection of fully restored and operational pre-1940's automobiles. Also housing an amazing collection of musical boxes, Mechanical orchestras and the 3rd largest Wurlitzer Pipe organ in the world. Again all fully operational. The museum curator was our guide along with 2 docents. The wealth of knowledge they shared was wonderful. It was unfortunate that 2 people did not understand the concept of look but please don't touch.
Make reservations in advance for the tour. Its the only way to see the 4 story collection.
A friend of mine brought me here last week and wow was I overwhelmed! The collection is truly spectacular, I can hardly pick out a single item or a category that I loved the most. Make a trip here and bring friends, the museum is truly spectacular!
Probably the best private collection of luxury cars in the country. Also mechanical musical instruments and other items. Once the Separate collection reopens later in 2019, and all can be seen again this museum and collection cannot be beat.
I love classic cars and this is an amazing collection of cars, I have been to this museum many times.
They have many one of a kind cars. There are also things on display, a train and music making devises some from 150 years ago.
I will be back.
If you like cars you must come here. The Nethercutt is fantastic.
Drop what your doing and get family and friends together. Go see Beautiful Works of Automotive History.. And enjoy the stories your parents will share of their ," historical times in the cars they drove. " ..
It is so wonderful! What an amazing collection of old cars in great shape and shiny looks. Quite a sight to see! I am not a fan of cars, but that collection is breathtaking!! You feel you plunge back in time and can't help but feel melancholy!!
Incredible experience, register on their website. Take the docent led tour. Block a minimum three hours. The Nethercutt's are the founders of Merle Norman Cosmetics. Their manufacturing plant and store are on the grounds. Hundreds of cars, musical instruments, period furniture, an amazing experience not to be missed. FREE.
Awesome vintage car museum, hood ornaments and beautiful small and large music boxes.
Also a beautiful Canadian rail car.
Fantastic collection! A real treasure.
This place is absolutely amazing.
It is funded by the Merle Norman Cosmetics foundation. Entry is free. How great is that?? When you get to see immaculate priceless collectible automobiles of another era.
Definitely a must go place if you are visitor or even local to southern California. Great car collections and the music box performance is something you definitely don't want to miss. And it's FREE!
A lot of history for one day at one place! It was really interesting what people used to do long time ago. Driving back home with a nowadays car was such a strange feeling after this wonderful museum! The people who are working there are very friendly, organized, I've learned a lot, especially from Robert Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Best regards!
My 3 year old son and I love coming to this museum to see the cars and train they have 😊 …
Incredible automobiles and the beautiful train! The people working there were also very personable and friendly. You have to see the 1930s Packard Cormorant hood ornaments that also doubled as the radio antennas!
Amazing collection of vehicles!!! Friendly polite staff, easy parking and the beat price for entertainment! I'll be going back many times to come!!
What an eclectic showcase of cars, musical instruments and other collectibles, including a furnished private railroad car. So much to see and experience. Kyle is a passionate tour guide and hearing the music gives me goose pumps. Spectacular and price is right.
Free parking, free admission and a great display of cars. The museum over the road is grat too but check for opening times. They have a fantastic library of car books, magazines, and manuals. The librarians are very helpful.
The finest automobile museum I've we're seen. Take the guided tour for the best of the best cars in a 1929 era showroom with marble floors and columns show casing the ultra luxury cars of that period.
The first 2 floors are beautiful. For the car loves....MUST go. Need a appointment to go in. The other reading museum across the street which is owned by them is free also just Vehicles only one sore
It's beautiful, free, they offer a tour that is never TOO crowded (tour requires a reservation): cars, hood ornaments, dolls (sometimes [not THIS time]), mechanical musical instruments. Half the hood ornaments, more'n half of the cars, a train engine & Pullman car are across the street
Amazing museum. Go on the tour if you can get a spot!
A wonderful treat. This museum may just be the best museum I've ever been to. The staff takes care of one another and are friendly. They pay attention to detail with their cars. All the cars are driven regularly and there's more cars when you do the guided tour. Also the music upstairs is phenomenal. Seriously, check this place out. I wish Steve McQueens '56 Jaguar XKSS would be in this collection rather than the Petersen Museum just because I know the Nethercutt's would take excellent care of the car.
Wonderful experience I had heard about it for years but had never been to it.
So glad we went if you have a love of truly Grand cars some we had never heard of and musical instruments you will truly enjoy the museum.
We found this by chance and it saved my son's 12th birthday! He was devistated that Magic Mountain was closed and was inconsolable (he is on the Autism Spectrum and had been dead set on the park) I was desperate looking for something else for him and randomly looked for car museums. After dragging him to the museum he was amazed and it turned into the best day of his life. We only saw the main museum, which is open every day, he is a huge car fan, and he was amazed at the collection. It was the first time he was able to see a Bugatti in person, as well as so many other amazing cars. Even if you aren't a car person, this collected is so impressive it would amaze anyone. We haven't had a chance to do the tour yet (my son also loves musical instruments) but plan on doing it soon.
Free and you get to see awesome cars
This museum experience is wonderful!
My kudos to this organization & their work to make this EXTRA-special.
(In a very good way) Unlike any other museum experience, with them presenting with a very personal touch.
An amazing museum that specializes in antique luxury vehicles from the turn of the century. I highly recommend doing the guided tour of the Nethercutt's private collection across the street. It's only done on Thursdays-Saturdays twice a day by reservation on first come first serve basis. Take full advantage of looking at the collection in the first 15 minutes of the tour because you will not come back (I assume it gives time for late comers to make it before the rest of the tour starts, some people got irritated that there wasn't enough time to view everything and we weren't allowed back). Great for the wives because there are doll collections, musical instruments, furniture, etc. The curator was a great tour guide and I was glad to see/hear the third largest organ in the world with all the silent movie sound effects. Great collections of things you probably wouldn't get to see. After that guided tour is done, you could catch the quick 15 minute tour of the steam engine train and private car in the back of the museum across the street, then finish up looking at the rest of the museum at your own pace. We were glad to come back the next day for the guided tour of the nethercutt's private collection, a real privilege. The best part is that it is all free! Probably LA's best kept secret.
Fantastic hidden gem! A must see! Perfect place to view classic cars and tour of building has a unique musical room. Been here many times and always see something new and fantastic!
What a car collection. First
Class. If you like large cars you will love the place. Cadillacs, Lincolns, Packard's, etc. Short on small.cars, MGs, Healys, Corvettes, Ferraris. The museum is emaculate. Makes the Peterson feel like a barn. There is a "private" show room across the street with reservations. The place is free with plenty of parking.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Can't stop talking about this place. Luxury, world winning car collection lovingly looked after. All original parts, all driven on California freeways to keep them healthy. Two buildings in Sylmar. One for the eye popping car collection and the other for the musical instruments and elegant entertaining space for the family's guests. Orchestras in cabinets that used to provide music in hotels and restaurants from the late 1800s to the 40s or so. One of a kind pieces that are conserved lovingly by this family and here to stay, free for the public. The mighty Wurlitzer organ with 5200 pipes throughout the walls and under the floor. Everything is run by air and paper music rolls. No electricity! And the man who takes care of these wonders and plays them is your tour guide. A very devoted and charming man whose life is these cars and musical wonders, and he loves and honors his position. Just looking at a modest sized cabinet I could see two violins playing themselves. A larger full orchestra beautiful wood cabinet can be opened to see drums actually drumming. It's fascinating and unbelievable. You cannot help but marvel at what was possible in the early 1900s for musical entertainment in dance halls and hotels. I may be wrong but I think it was the Merle Noman cosmetics line that made this all possible.
Tours Thursday Friday and Saturday. You can wander around the building with most of the car collection on your own then cross the street to an odd looking 4 story museum and guided tour. This is where the circular Stairway to the Stars is. The Nethercutt family would entertain the Hollywood elite and politicians in a grand dining room which was transported from some castle in Europe. Endless mirrors in the elegant dining room that seats something like 24. Standing at either end will put you in the endless mirror reflection state. This place is one of a kind, always free to the public kept up and shown for the love of it. A short hop to the valley you will never forget, never regret. The Nethercutt Museum.
There are 2 buildings. We only saw the one that has the car collection which I totally enjoyed. The other building has music boxes and other collectables that can only be seen by being on a tour that is given Thursday through Saturday. Museum is free. Not too far from the Getty Museum.
They had Christmas Songs here tonight! Played on the huge pipe organ-one of the biggest in the world!! My Mom would have loved it!!! It was incredible.....and free!! Love love loved it! I’m in the holiday spirit now!!!!
This place is a cery good museum, You see there a lot of old cars. And also is a very beautiful cars from any generation. It is a very special museum tovisit with your friends and family.
Amazing Collection of Automobiles and musical Machines that are running with no electricity
Great tour guide 👍
Highly Recommending if In town a must check ✅
Great tour, the cars are amazing.
Best collection of cars and musical instruments in SoCal. Well worth the time to tour the museum. Best if all the four us free. Reservations are required.
Unbelievable selection of cars with derailed signage
Excellent place to see so many beautiful old cars. I have been there 4 times.
My husband and I decided to come to The Nuttercutt Museum after we went to breakfast in Newhall and I had never heard of the Nethercutt Museum. I was not disappointed as I am a huge fan and I mean "HUGE FAN" of antique cars and the plethora of styles, colors, sizes, engineering, and parts used to build them. And the gentleman at the reception desk was very nice and helpful. One of the things that blew me away was the size of the tires, engines, and the PRICES OF THESE CARS, which lead me to think, "what in the world is wrong with the price of cars today?" All in all, it was a wonderful time for us and I am looking forward to checking out the building across the street. Of course you have to make reservations and we will. I encourage everyone to go for a family day at the Nuttercut Museum, you will not be disappointed.
Going to this museum in Sylmar, an industrial location in the San Fernando Valley is an amazing experience and it is very difficult to put into words how wonderful this facility is. It is now actually two museums, the first is the Nethercutt Museum which is open from Tuesday - Saturday and features over 100 classic antique and vintage cars (All of which are in working order). Also this facility features a tour of a Pullman briefly twice a day. Across the street is the Nethercutt Collection which is much more difficult to gain entry since it is only open three days a week and advance reservations are necessary. It at all possible try to go to the collection which in addition to antique cars features automobile collectables, a Wurlitzer Theatre organ and other musical instruments. In our judgment, this is a must-see for visitors to Southern California.
Went to see the auto museum and were able to include their doll, coin, and musical instrument collections. Very impressive, but you need to sign up ahead of time.
Unbelievable collection of antique cars
And it free to see for the public
A special gem located in Sylmar. It has something interesting for everybody whether you're into cars or vintage musical devices and orchestrians. Also the might Wurlitzer plays during tours and special concerts during the year. It's all absolutely free.
I've always enjoyed automobiles, and this collection doesn't disappoint. I felt like a little kid with a big smile on my face. This is definitely a place to visit. Don't forget to tour the train in the back.
Definitely worth taking a tour.
Absolutely amazing collection of in valuable cars and music instruments all the way up to the third largest pipe organ in the United States .they played many of the musical instruments and drive all of the cards once a year each
This place has an amazing collection, it is a gem! Must visit!
Free to public. Vintage train car located towards the back of museam. Great varity of emaculate vintage automobiles. Interesting and Free to enter. No food or drinks allowed or available. But there is a liquor store located across the street. Convenient .
Beautiful collection, I've brought my whole family and everyone loves it. If you really want to see something cool, check out the collection across the street! It's amazing!
Functional art. Consistent winner at Pebble Beach Concourse. Amazing one of a kind collection of cars ,clocks, orchestrions, pianos, and the wurlitzer theater organ. The automatons, pianos, orchestrions, and theater organ are played for you during the free tour.
Some of the most beautiful cars in the world presented by an awesome tour guide. Well worth the trip to see the presentation of such beauty and hear the story of how it all evolved from the Nethercutt's who formulated and sold Merle Norman Beauty products.
If you like classic cars and the old music boxes of the past this place is for you... Words can't describe... You have to see it for yourself... Have your camera ready! And it's FREE!
Great place to see vintage cars. Too bad Laurie ruins it. She has lost her passion, if she ever had any, and hates her job. She makes what could be a great experience and ruins it.
Everybody else there is polite and nice, Laurie's attitude really takes away what would be a fun two hours. I think she has OCD, that could be her problem. She makes up silly rules and tells people where to stand for no reason. The OCD would explain it.
Also the true reason to show you cars for free is not to be altruistic at all, they just want people to be envious of their collection. What they need is people to look at them so they can feel rich.
Just shut all that out and go see the cars. At least most of the employees are all nice.
The best day of our holiday in USA worth the trip from South Africa just to be here . The tour across the road was a bonus they had just 2 places available when we arrived . Everything sets a a standard few will ever better.
The docents at the museum were very knowledgeable and personable.
Just a great find! Could spend an entire day here if you do the guided tour. Free admission parking and tour. Who doesn't love free? I would do it again.
The Nethercutt Museum is Spectacular! I If you have an appreciation for antiques and all things mechanical this is the place. An Extraordinary collection. A must see!
Spectacular collections of automobiles, musical instruments, antiques, etc
It was very good, however, the result depends on whether you made a reservation, which is free. If you make a reservation, you can see much variety of collection. It, though, was good to see collection of classic cars and train if you failed to make a reservation.
The most exquisite collection of automobiles I have see in ages. Loved the Packard PT Boat engine. Such amazing detail in the restoration of all the vehicles in the collection.
You have a Picture of the New Petersen Museum on this post ! Skip was the Curator. Herd he had a stroke. Not sure if he is coming back. I think his Niece took over. Not very friendly I hear. Most Clark Gables cars are gone . And most Big V12&V16 cars are gone too. They are planning on doing cars from 50 s to 80 s . Have a show every Sat. Bringing in the Youth . More $
Great collection of autos and musical instruments
As a car and music enthusiast, you just can't beat this museum for both their auto and music instrument collections in both their buildings. Don't miss their wonderful pipe organ, and their pullman train cars. The Pierce Arrow travel trailor is also not to be missed.
Fantastic auto collection that's free to the public
My son definitely enjoyed looking at all the cars but we didn't get to tour the RV or train we got there a little late but looking forward to returning to do so. Staff was friendly and informative.
Amazing place.. Very well maintained and friendly staff..
I've toured both the museum and the collection several times. If you're a car enthusiast,or just fond of very nice things, add this to your "must do" list.
Crazy museum i didnt know they had this here in the. Center of san fernando, if you like old School cars this is the place you cant go wrong alot of old cars and information. This was a 5 Star experience i would return another time maybe when they change out the inventory but for now its nice i would rec.
My husband went, I waited in the RV. He loved it, he was so excited about viewing the collection. He will be sharing his pictures with a friend today, also a car enthusiast
How could you not like this place. Even if cars aren't your thing it's incredible to see all these great old classics in pristine condition. And thank you to the Nethercutt family for making it free.
What a gem! No charge to see the most fabulous car collection I have ever seen. Plus fabulous musical instruments. Well worth the visit!!
Visiting this astonishing and wonderful museum should be a priority for anyone who has it yet done so. It is a fantastic collection of cars, orchestrons and a whurlitzer theater organ. It is free!
Amazing place. A must visit if your in the area. You can just show up but if you really want to have the full experience go online and get tickets. Which are free. Best place in la area.
Hidden gem of the svf... after the museum I like go to a local business for lunch and drinks.
There is a great restaurant with the most amazing Margaritas across the street from the Sylmar Library and just down the street from here.
Amazing place and a hidden gem! The remodel made the acoustics great! I love going and seeing the cars as well as the concerts!
Amazing collection! And the guys inside are really head over heels for those cars and their past. They know a lot about the beginnings and the owners. Thanks a lot for the smalltalk!
I got kicked out for wailing the siren on the old fire engine. I tried running and hiding in the train exhibit but at 6'4", blending into the crowd (of about 3 people) was not happening. That sheriff was no swinging Richard. I went up the block, changed my disguise, slipped back in and got kicked out again for the same thing. Was it worth it? It's free admission, so, yeah. They have an unrivaled Rolls Royce collection, and if you're sneaky enough you can get in some of the cars and take pictures. I came back later without a disguise, the sheriff didn't recognize me, turns out he's a pretty cool dude.
Best place to go for a outing
Has beautiful cars beautiful collectables you have to take the tour . Every one that works there is incredible. What a lovely day.
Wonderful well maintained museum. Very interesting, a real gem. Amazing collection of hood ornaments including those of Lalique crystal.
Absolutely very nice to visit there and see what they have available. We went to see a silent movie which is something different for me but we really enjoy the movie and the best part is free.
Beautiful collection. Very clean, not crowded, free entry and free parking.
It was beautiful. I had a wonderful time touring the museum. I felt like 8 was on a scene of the Titanic. Beautiful collection of cars.
The most unique car, mechanical musical instruments and collectibles. It's free. Just call and reserve a tour. Nothing like any where in the U. S.
Know about this years go and friend Byron Matson did the tours. Was just told yesterday the collection was sold over a year ago. Trying to find out if the whole facility is gone. Tragic historic, tourist loss but family maybe got tired of it, lost interest and got several hundred million. Did not see any update in both their web site or media story so for now, a mystery.
The private collection, requires an appointment - it's free. Hands down one of the best places in LA to take someone (local or out of town). I lived here for years before finding out about this collection. It is a must see.
it's free there's very unique cars there lots of cars beautiful organs and lot of dolls and other amazing antique items go check this place out it's amazing
I mean to tell you, this is one of the
best Museums you will find anyware.
Nethercutts building was finished in
1971, I believe, after the earthquake,
and I was working at ITT Gilfillan,
just across the street, on Bledsoe St.
In Sylmar, California, and our build-
was invited to be in the first tour of
the Museum, and it was just FAN-
TASTIC, one of the best, like I said
above, number 1 in my book!!!
It is just a fantastic experience.
Fantastic collection of functional and operational mechanical luxury items from the last century. Specializing in music reproduction devices, super rare autos and memorabilia. Exceeded expectations.
Totally blown away by this place. Came with a group to see the cars and we were amazed by the collection as a whole. Fascinating turn of the century musical instruments, time pieces, and more.
It's free and it's a world-class collection of classic cars. Unfortunately, their library is rarely open because they're short-staffed.
I love this car museum with great cars its so very cool they have all kinds of cars there is even a train and a trailer from the 50s best of all its free
Excellent collection of rare and distinct cars, self paced tour, pictures allowed, not crowded on our visit, plenty of parking, hosts were nice, and free
Great car museum, loved the old cars they had.
This is a free Museum for viewing the Automobiles and it is Wonderful, but if you would like to see the Trains and Furniture, you must call ahead for information.
Incredible collection of cars. A must visit for anyone interested in classic cars. Admission and parking are free, too.
An amazing gift from Merle Norman. Please don't touch anything, the antiques are all in such perfect cosmetic and working condition, I felt awkward being allowed so close!
The Nethercutt Museum is a real treasure hidden away in the foothills of Sylmar. A collection of unparalleled vintage cars and a pristine robber baron railroad car are complimented by a steampunk dream collection of contraptions from a massive pipe organ to animatronic music boxes large as a gypsy wagon. Loads of Lalique, fancy hood mascots and other treasures fill rooms dripping with a wonderment of nostalgia. This collection is by reservation only, and don't forget the annual holiday organ recitals. Why, I'm going to one in an hour!
Nifty cars and automated music machines
Great collection of restored and unrestored cars! The train exhibit was great!
Amazingly beautiful collection of antique cars that are very rare to find, let alone in mass quantity like this. Best of all FREE entrance and parking!
Fabulous! 5 stars isn't enough. The collection is incredible, and it's free, however, reservations are required for the tours.
