I went right before they're planning to get it dry docked to be repaired. The ship is IMPRESSIVE even with it stripped due to repairs. There were too many people though. The event was pretty highly publicized as "the last weekend to see the ship before repairs" so that makes sense. The staff is highly knowledgeable and I enjoyed reading the plaques and seeing model rooms/set ups. The on deck guns were also pretty cool. This is definitely something for someone who loves history. There was a lot of parking but if you park far enough back, you'll have to do a lot of walking.

When this ship is opened back to the public, you must visit! Plans to spend the day because there is so much to see and you will have to climb stairs or ladders depending on where you decide to go onboard. There were some areas blocked off but for the most part, we explored a ton of this ship. This ship is an absolute monster that lives up to the dreadnought name and is the only surviving warship to have served in both world wars.
Raudel Avelar
Had a chance to visit one last time before it was closed and moved. Such a great experience. All of the volunteers were very friendly.

Awesome to see in person. I'm sad the ship is closed but happy to hear it is being cleaned up. Things like this are important to see for younger generations. Great work!!
Demetrice Tonkawa
Last day open before it moved, I loved it; got to smell that ship smell again. 🥰 We all enjoyed thanks for what you guys did and do and look forward to visiting the new location and or project at this location.

Whelp, the grand old lady slipped her berth today for Galveston! Looks like she made it there safely, too! Here's to the ship getting the TLC she needs, and a new permanent berth, but preservation such that she could be seaworthy again if need be!

I’ve always passed the Battleship the times I’ve traveled by but never gone to the actual location. Upon getting there, the Battleship kind of just appears. I’m glad that they’re taking it to get repaired ,but I really wish/hope that they put more attractions out there the bring more people to appreciate the ship and the monuments . The area is nice a peaceful, I definitely wouldn’t go if there’s a high traffic event because parking can go quick and you may be stuck walking quite a distance. I’ll definitely for back once the ship is back .
Tina Paul
Grand Ol' Warship! Visitors were allowed access to the deck, from bow to stern, and upto the Captain's room on the top. The experience of walking on over a 100 years old ship was amazing.
Jonathan Greenstein
Unfortunately the battleship is closed for extended repairs. Despite this the park and adjacent monuments remain open and you can see the ship from pretty close. While here you can visit the monument, battlefield, memorials and cemetery.
Please note that photos are © Jonathan Greenstein, please request permission prior to any use. Thanks

The ship is gone for repairs. But the surrounding park is very nice and full of history. Still worth your time.

Extremely thankful I got to share this Amazing ship and its rich history with my family. It's great she's getting an extensive face lift. I can't wait to see her when she's finished.
Jimmy Allen
The grounds are really pretty. I went a little early to try and get some great shots with the morning Sun. Good thing I did because there isn't a lot of parking. The tour guide was friendly and very informative. According to him, the ship is going to be moved soon to make much needed repairs and there seems to be no guarantee that it'll be going back to La Porte, Texas where it is now. The guide didn't seem to know any alternative site that it might be sent to. But, it's there now..)

Awesome is the word to describe this place. It's like taking a step back in time and walking through history. There is lots of history in this magnificent battleship. The park where it is located is surrounded by huge oak trees offering plenty of shade to shelter from the sun. Beautiful park that's for sure. Lots of picture opportunities to be had.
Samoul Murray
This place is really cool for people who are into history. The battleship is really big. I definitely suggest taking the tour, because they do provide a lot of useful information about the whole historical event. It's a good educational place to take the kids, because as an added bonus, they get to be outside, and not in front of their tablets/screens.
Derrick Ng
The battleship was stunning and after all these years I'm impressed in its current condition. It seems to be closed until further notice, most likely due to repairs. You can still go around the park and take pictures however. Recommend going if you have a thing for naval history!
Robby
Visited the ship when I was a kid, and it was docked by the San Jacinto Monument in La Porte at the time. I recently saw it in Galveston, and it was straight across the Galveston Channel from the Fisherman's Wharf restaurant. It's currently in dry dock there for hull repairs, it looked small next to the big rigs next to it. Not sure where the ship will end up after the repairs are completed. Also saw the Elissa ship outside the restaurant along with Tilman Fertitta's yacht. Pretty cool seeing all three ships in the same area.
Andre Eusebio
Good place to learn history. Awesome. Just awesome! My daughter and I went for Dad's Day, 2019. You really want to see her here, by the San Jacinto Monument, before she gets towed for repairs, and then, perhaps, permanently moved to another location. At least, that's what I've been hearing. This is history, folks. ⚓⚓⚓

Just a fantastic step back in time. She's about to undergo a 32,000.000.00 make over in Alabama ten be returned to Texas for a final dry dock for it's continued work as a musuem. This was probably my third or fourth time visiting here in 40 years. Now I get to bring my kids and teach them what and how things were done. Plan on at least two hours. Lots of climbing up and down steep stairs if you want to see more that just the main deck. There is a lot of renovation going on also. So worth the visit. You can go down three decks to the engine room and all the way up to the flag bridge.
James Simiskey
Having the pleasure of seeing the gorgeous Battleship Texas made my day. The moment you pull into the parking lot, she is sitting there in all her majesty. I love Warships, old and new. So, having the opportunity to see a battleship like her is an incredible blessing. You're allowed to roam the vessel virtually top to bottom. Many areas are restricted to the public for various reasons. However, much of the vessel is explorable, including the main decks, much of the observation tower, a view into her forward most turret, the level 2 deck (mess hall, living quarters), and some of the lower decks (some of the engine rooms). You are even able to turn and aim some of the anti-aircraft guns. Each area has a small plaque explaining its function and significance. Seeing this vessel is well worth the visit before she leaves for repairs at the end of the year. It is very hot outside, and even below decks, the heat can become overwhelming, so be certain to wear light clothing and bring plenty of water, though there is a water fountain by the ships 5 inch guns.
Andrew
Very short exploration due to construction but it was enough for us to be amazed. I had a lot of fun coming here with my friends and family and I learned a lot about battleships from WWI and WWII. The battleship has been around for along time and looking at it and thinking about how long it has been serving our country brought a tear to my eye. This place is very informative but be wary travellers as steep stairways could lead to injury and I wouldn't want that happening so be prepared to either catch someone or carry them down😁. Have a blast visiting this place I know I did.

Awesome place to visit with your family! Park itself is nice and well maintained. Volunteers are still working on ship’s painting. Some of the volunteers were getting rid of top part of the rusted material to stop deterioration. Staff were very nice and answered all the questions i asked. I went to both down and up deck. It’s nice to see how things were 100 years ago. Also it’s good to see that how battleship Texas was involved lot of different mission including diplomatic mission. It also had late involvement in First World War. I highly recommend!
Erica Bennett
Really awesome battleship! Lots of history. Plenty of things to climb and see. Do keep in mind it is very hot inside. There is no air conditioning. Would not be a good place to bring babies. However, it is totally worth the trip. It was $12 each adult.
Zonia F.
This beautiful place was on my little history buff’s checklist! We had an amazing time. First and foremost I applaud & am forever thankful for the informative volunteers who maintain this piece of history afloat. Walking up we were eagerly greeted by a park volunteer set up under a tent with a table of old artifacts. We were allowed to touch and play with them, which was entertaining. They also offered a “driving tour” which lasts about an hour long, and depending on your guide you will get a pretty hilarious tour of the premises. My son’s joy was finally seeing the post where Santa Ana surrendered, it was surreal, and Ranger Joe made sure he gave a detailed description of park and the events in chronological order.
The park itself is beautiful and trees give it so much life! The ship is easily toured, but I wouldn’t recommend you take strollers, as the walkways are narrow, it’s surrounded by fans, and the stairs are pretty steep. There as plenty of informative posters along the ship.
Russel Howes
Interesting place to come and walk around the ship. Great half day out to come and also visit the monument. Recommend going to the Monument Inn for lunch. Great view of the ship canal while eating.
Philippe Jacques Kradolfer
A great historical site. Battleship Texas has a very interesting history having participated in some of the most significant naval battles of the 20th century during the first and second world wars. Docked now along the Houston ship channel, the Battleship Texas serves as a memorial to those times and the advanced engineering of its time. Walking through the decks and corridors you are transported to times past imagining the life and adventure of the many sailors who served in this ship. The staff at the site is very friendly, the grounds are well kept, but the ships shows the scares of time. A very cool place for children and anyone interested in naval history. A great place indeed."

Well we went as school group for 5th grade field trip. It was the first time my son's school had gone for trip, it was not too bad but honestly they needed more help. The ladies working must have felt stressed out but really no need to be yelling at everyone. Ok so you have rules, why not meet us before we all got started and the kids were so excited? This trip was planned, so you had plenty notice. The kids enjoyed most of it, but we didn't have time for everything. Last group on ship got about half time on it. Some kids didn't get to go into the shop. Otherwise it was a great place to take the kids, very educational and potential to have lots of fun!
David Hathaway
Perhaps August is not the best time to visit a century old steel ship, but we had a nice tour of the Battleship after visiting the San Jacinto Battleground. Yes, it was hot but not terrible. The heat made us realize even more fully how hard life must have been for the crew. It was well worth the time and expense.
Eric Elliott
A visit to the USS Texas is a truly wonderful experience! I'm not sure when it will be re-opened to the public, but hopefully when it is, it will be set to remain open for years to come! I recently visited as part of the Wargaming Anchors Away 2019 tour. She really is a sight to behold, being much different from her younger sisters from other classes. I don't think they've decided where she will return to following repairs, as they are hoping for a location with more visitors to bring in more revenue.
Corine E. Phillips
I've never been a great fan of history, perhaps because it wasn't palpable enough for me.
Visiting this ship made me for a moment "feel" these brave men and took history to a more realistic level. It was worth making a detour.
Lynn Timmerding
We visited on Good Friday this year. It was our first time at this park. For a ship that is over 100 years old they have been doing a great job maintaining it. The history of the ship is fantastic. If you love U.S. history you will love this ship. Some of the guns they allow you to sit on and move. We were also able to climb into one of the turrets. The ship is going through some much needed maintenance so there are sections that are off limits. Overall though this is a great piece of history. We took our 6 year old and he enjoyed it. It would not be easy to get around most places on the ship if you cannot do stairs or ladders.
Jerry Smith
Absolutely love getting to visit her, only going g to be open the next weekend before going g to Galveston for drydock and repairs. Been visiting her for 50 years and hope to keep that going. Place her in Galveston so she can be seen by more people and not Beaumont or Baytown. Come on Texas!
George Walruff
My son and I both love history, WWII naval history is his passion. Momma Tex has been on our bucket list for a long time. This ship is our history in person. She is a reminder of the sacrifices our sailors made in fighting in both World Wars. She is the last of the super dreadnoughts and stands as memorial to those who both built her and sailed on her.
We enjoyed our visit and the ability to clamber over the decks and take in her spirit. She was built for battle, the multiple guns and the magazines take precedence on her. The crews bunks located where there is space in and around the heart and muscle of the ship serve to remind you that men manned and served the Mighty T. She was the Queen and the sailors, her servants.
We are happy that she is being looked after and will be repaired. She and the other ships and monuments serve to remind us of not only our history, but of the sacrifices veterans make in honor and duty to our country and Constitution. We cannot forget that while she floats peacefully in the harbor, at more than one time her guns roared and people fought and died on her.
So honor her and her crews by visiting and contemplating what her role was in our history. Thank her sailors and other veterans by contemplating what your role is as a citizen of this country. Then treat others with the same respect. Do your best to uphold the values that this country and her laws are based on. Look at the ship named in honor of our state and see her might. Free her spirit and live a life to honor it. That is how you can properly thank a veteran and Momma Tex.
Thank you, a vet of OJG (Bosnia) & OIF (Iraq).
Marcus Lopez
Loved coming here as a kid, love it even more as a dad. So many great memories here, too bad they're relocating the ship due to low admission and repairs. Always a must see if you are in Houston!!
Tonya Henry
Enjoyed visiting here. Its much more than a ship. There are other things right in front with historic value. The staff is great. Easy to get to off the parkway. It was not crowded either in case you want to avoid big crowds.
Ryan Sorge
Congrats on the successful move, Mighty T! So happy I was able to watch, and look forward to seeing you again once you're all fixed up and reopened.
Huneydripper P
Came to Houston for our anniversary . Being that hubby is a Navy veteran, we had to come visit. Best idea ever. Please come and visit. You'll learn a lot. These are just a few of the pictures. There's a lot of history there.
Eric L
Excellent tour. There's so much to explore and details that you can't grasp it all on one trip. The ship is worth the admission price and it's free if you are current military or veteran.
Luis Vera
Wonderful time visiting this historic ship before her renovation. Santa was even onboard for the grandkids to take a picture
Robert Levi
Another great fishing spot. But there lots to do with friends and family. There's the battleship with gift shops and the monument. Or just hang and enjoy the park.
David King
Was open for Labor Day weekend only, suppose to be on the way to dry dock for repairs.
Really Enjoyed my walk around this Beautiful piece of History.
Hector Hinojosa
Opened during Labor Day weekend, great place to take the family. They’re doing maintenance and repairs but you can see what it was like to be in a ship in WW2.
Doug Cosenzo
How cool was this to see! Even the name Dreadnought is awesome!
It is unfortunate that it has sprung a number of leaks and is in need of repairs.
USS Texas (BB-35), is the last surviving Dreadnought to be used in World War 1 and 2. It is
the second ship of the United States Navy named in honour of the U.S. state of Texas, is a New York-classbattleship. The ship was launched on 18 May 1912 and commissioned on 12 March 1914
The Dreadnought is located at The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site includes the location of the Battle of San Jacinto and the museum ship USS Texas. It is located off the Houston Ship Channel in unincorporated Harris County, Texas near the city of Houston. The site was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960

This is a to do if you're in Texas. I just went today in the pouring rain and still enjoyed it. At first glance my breath was taken away since this is my time seeing a ship like this. $12 for the self guided tour, parking a plenty and hours to get lost in. I was taken away by how much time went by and I didn't even get to see everything honestly.
A lot to learn and there are a bunch of a.c. units around so don't worry about sweating a ton.
Great for kids and family or like me by yourself.
Really recommend coming here and also visit lady Lexington in corpus Christi if you wanna see a carrier.
Joshua Mitcham
Battleship Texas is awe inspiring.
There are older museum ships one could visit, certainly larger..but nothing can compare to a Dreadnought in person.Ive seen every museum ship except USS Missouri,Texas is the most important in my opinion.
Ethan Lindstrom
Awesome, educational, and fun! Kids loved climbing all over, especially on the anti-aircraft guns that still move.
Very interesting to read the stories about the ship and to see how the sailors lived.
It is hard to imagine over 1000 people living on that ship for months at a time...
Jan Me
Some areas on deck are closed down and you only are able to walk through the 1st floor, on deck, and 3 stairs up the main tower. Still very interesting to see and walk inside great part of history.
Chelsea Jordan
This piece of American history is absolutely wonderful! It’s not expensive ($12 for people over 12, $6 for 65+, $3 for ages 5-11, and free for military), and you can spend a LOT of time here! There are lots of signs throughout the ship that give you information about specific times in the ship’s history, etc. If you’re bringing little ones, there is no space for strollers on the ship, and you will need to keep a close eye on the kids because there are a lot of areas where a kid could seriously hurt themselves without adult supervision. Those with physical handicaps will have a very hard time here because there are very steep stairs and ladders, and the deck of the ship is not entirely flat. If you can, check out this ship!!
Duane Dixon
Great exhibits. However, it is in need of repair as the exhibits and signs do mention. I remember seeing it after the work done on it in the late 80's and having access to much more of the ship. It's a great and fun time for kids and great learning for adults.
Johnathan Stewart
This place is rich in history. What a great experience to be on a 100 year old ship. Lots of walking but the kids had a great time.
Austin Davis
Great experience that was educational. Ship was under renovation so one deck was closed off but they did a great work around so the tour was fantastic.
Out Standing in a field
An incredible display of power. The battleship was once the ruler of the seas and now just a reminder. Sailing in these ships had to be grueling and yet concerning. Where was the hidden sub waiting to strike an unwary ship.
DeDerpyDerp _
Very fine battleship. I wish that it can say alive longer then I will. It is a huge part of our history, and it shouldn't be forgotten. (She served in both world wars.) It has a great interior, low ceiling in some spots, the AA guns still swivel so if you bring kids tgey can screw around on them... This Dreadnought era ship, the last of them, still floats in its area. I highly recommend checking it out. The staff help with any questions and some can tell you stories of her service. I've been there two times, and would go again.
Rich Kollanda
Great place to stop and visit. History of the ship is amazing. Plenty to do. Kids will love it plenty stuff to climb on and interact with.
Jopsyduck
I can't believe I didn't write this review two years ago when I visited right before they closed for repairs. I had a fantastic time and would 100% visit again once the repairs are complete!
Paul Hart
This is our second visit.
We can spend all day looking around her decks and in the park land near her.
A piece of history that needs to be looked after.
Keep up the good work.
Erik Ruggles
A fun to go and walk around. Some great history about ship life and action during WW1 and WW2. It was very fun to walk around the deck and even sit in some of the gunner seats. If you have to pick between this and San Jacinto, choose this.
Beware that this is not a very friendly place to those with mobile disabilities as it is a warship built without those concerns.
Melissa Gandy
We have taken our babies here now our grandbabies. Wonderful experience and a chance to share and teach what americas history about before all of its erased.
Raymond Odum
My dad always brought me here, now I bring my daughter, lovely peice of history for all generations to enjoy. It's kinda sad because when I was younger it seemed much more was open to explore and look around but most of the lover decks are closed off now unless you take a special tour, but overall never pass this one up, always worth the drive to get here.
Virginia Skaggs
Very cool! First time on a Battleship. Lots of cool memorabilia and knowledgable people on board to tell stories and answer questions. Would love to go back on a slightly less foggy day!
Steven Erkman
Unfortunately the ship was closed for public. They also need to repair the deck, there are some dangerous holes in there
Frank Spicher Jr.
The ship is a great floating (sort of) museum. It's a piece of history that you can touch which is becoming less common as time goes on. Kids can climb on and actually move some of the smaller guns and the AA guns, making it somewhat interactive. You can climb to the flag bridge for a fantastic view of everything around you. Below decks are exhibits using a "frozen in time" kind of look with period props and items placed in areas blocked by gates and plexiglass so you can still get a good view and appreciation of what things used to be like. The ship is an enduring legacy of American commitment to the people who have come before us and a reminder of what they fought for.
It should be noted that it is a warship. If you're going to visit, be prepared to endure heat below decks, especially in summer months. Wear comfy, closed toe shoes. Some doorways have a raised lip or actually small steps leading through them. Some sections of the ship are somewhat cramped and taller folks (6ft+) need to watch their head in some areas. Most of the decks are painted steel and as such can be slick when wet, so keep that in mind.
Earlier when I said "sort of" floating is because the ship is over 100 years old and the water is slowly winning against the steel that was used to build it. The staff is constantly working to keep the ship open and afloat. Pumps are being used to remove water when possible and repairs are constantly underway, so please be understanding that certain areas might be off limits.
Years ago the engine room and most of the third deck were inaccessible. When I went recently I saw parts of the ship I'd never seen thanks to the work being done.
That being said, they do offer "hard hat" tours for groups, but you'd have to contact them for details.
M Z Prince
We are a family of 8 and this was universally enjoyed by all. The kids especially enjoyed operating the old guns, they move up and down and around by turning cranks. We could not get them off!
Mano Micheal
USS Texas, the battleship of allied forces during 2nd world war, is a beauty. If your are planing to watch this monument get atleast 2 hrs spare time so that you can enjoy the beauty of this mighty ship.
Don L
I love battleships.
The Texas is undergoing some major repairs right now. This boat seems a bit smaller than the USS North Carolina and the USS New Jersey. If you love Texas and you're taking the history tour from San Antonio to Houston and parts elsewhere, then you have to stop in and see the battleship
Lee Schultz
Through a charity event organized by PPG Paints Houston, my family and I had the chance to help paint the deck of the Battleship and be part of the Overnight Stay with a Hard Hat Tour.
This was a once in a lifetime experience, and should totally be something everyone should participate in.
Douglas Oaksford
Pretty cool. They let you tour at your own speed and have lots of places to poke your head in and play around with. Good for kids but not people with difficulty moving or the extremely tall. I'm 6 foot and had to duck often. Bless our sailors who are taller then me.
knottshottie
I love visiting this ship. The kids love playing with the weapon systems, i love all the picture perfect moments, and my husband enjoys the history behind the ship. You can easily spend 2hrs walking up and down the ship.
Sean N
We dont have anything quite as amazing as this in Michigan. I really wish this was open and hope for a speedy restoration. The kids were amazed at the size and age of it.
Jorge Sotelo
Very neat site for any history buff. You are able to tour the ship in almost all of its entirety. From kitchen to dining areas, rest areas, to climbing the mast almost to the top. Kids loved it! Also are able to sit on gunner seats and see what it would've been like to experience it first hand.
Kay
I wish we would've read online the hours they were open because we ended up going when it was closed. Waaa. Overall place look.clean well maintained.. great little view and across you have another monument. Will have to return again when opened !
Louie Caruana
Well preserved pre World War 1 battleship mostly open to walk around on freely. It's currently being worked on to bring it closer to its former glory.
JOSEPH LEONGUERRERO
An amazing restoration of a mighty ship. One of a kind for all to enjoy. Brought back many memories of my 10 years of sailing on Naval warships.
Larry Parrish
Wonderful experience. My 4 & 6 year old grandchildren had a great time wondering around and seeing the ship.
barb mays
Closed for repairs but got to walk the grounds here and at the memorial. Was disappointed to see the vandalism by those not respecting the history here and the trash build up in the waters. I'm sure it's a task but it's little things like that that will keep people from wanting to go
Kenneth Paulk
It was a privilege to visit her before she gets moved for repairs. She won't be back to this location. thank you Wargaming for hosting this opportunity.. and thanks to all the staff that's kept her company and kept her afloat. She is truly a gem!! Salute to her history!
Nicole Howell
Nice to see the ship before it leaves. I can’t wait to see what the ship will look like once the updates are done.
Paul ashcraft
A great place to go and look around I had a great time and the price was cheap it didn't cost me an arm or a leg ,the only thing I would improve is the staff in the office they yelled at the kids that was at the penny machine and also they gave me attitude when i walked in I felt like I was a nuisance to them for just showing up
Laronna Brezina
Went to see the Texas Battleship one last time before it's relocated for restoration and then given a new home
David Thompson
Awesome place to take the family. Immense amount of history to show the kids while having fun climbing around the battleship. It won't be here much longer before it gets moved for repairs. Hopefully it will end up close by when the repairs are complete.

This is a must stop for every Texan and visiting non Texan. The history enclosed in this beautiful ship is abounding. Plan comfortable shoes and clothes for the excursion. As you walk her hallowed halls you can sense her history and strength!
Dean
This battleship is amazing and a must see if you are in the area and appreciate naval warships. Had an absolute blast here with friends. Highly recommended.
SEBASTIAN HERNANDEZ
Although it is closed indefinitely too the public just getting the chance to see it in person was really nice and the park is very pretty. The way the trees hide the battle ship is so cool lol
Ridzuan NurAin_Z
Nice place to goo.. we can feel your self.. in time war of the world...
Danny Wallace
History at its best. If you have ANY interest in history or you have kids that get excited about BIG things, take them here. The staff are friendly and informative, lots of accessible places to get into, including one of the turrets. Kids are allowed to play on the AA guns to see what it was like in action. Get involved in your history.
Deuce Sotelo
its Wonderful, The only thing it desserves id a dry dock to keep its History alive for a much a longer time for its Future or else its Unrecoverable.
Cassie Williams
It was great to explore and see history over the years through this ship. Clean facility, friendly staff. Be aware there is no bathroom on board. There's one by the gift shop - stop by before adventuring!
Cami
really cool self guided tour. wish there were plates with words or someone to show/ describe what each part was meant for. admission was $10 per person which is kind of a lot for the experience, but def something cool to see.
Nate B
One of the best museum ships in the world. The second oldest battleship left in the world, and preserved in really decent condition. Sure it's not nearly as clean as, say, U-505 in Chicago, but the crews are activity working to fix her up. Like any museum ship it's sketchy to navigate, lots of steep stairs and tight doors, but it's worth it for the chance to step aboard history. Not recommended for young children, but most kids 6+ should be fine if kept under close watch. Overall- if you have any interest in history or technology, make a trip here, you'll love it.
Joey Pauga
Loved the history that we were able to learn about. Great Memorial Day Activity for the family. I also enjoyed the grassy area where we had a picnic with my wife and kids. Very nice and beautiful immediate surroundings.
Williamfey62 _
Amazing monument, I would love to come back and hope to see it in its future dry dock
Devin Warner
We just love touring battleships. Since this one is close to us, we have been back multiple times. Learn something new every visit. Once she gets back from drydock, we will have to go back and see how she has changed.
Tiffany Hicks
Wanted to take my girls to see a piece of history before they stop the tours on Sep 1st. USS TEXAS Battleship, they have guided or tape tours, but we just explored on our own and had fun.
Alfonso Soumynona
I went a little too late, didnt get to board it, but got a picture from the outside, the area is calm and quiet, very secluded, great place for photos, parking is a little small so get there early if you want a spot, over all I definitely look forward and going back and taking more pictures of an amazing ship!
George Alysandratos
Omg! I was very impressed with this place specially if you like to see historical things
Lucky Luciano
Nice place for an adventure, if you have your Texas State Park pass it's free! Just remember to stay hydrated.
Susana Ogrady
Have kids that hate to learn!? Well this is the place to bring them! Teach them a bit of history without letting them know they're learning! Kids can play on the weapons so that makes it more fun for them :) oh and the prices are good for what you see.
Brian Baker
The last surviving U.S. battleship of World War I... Battleships were a LOT smaller then they are today, and that is interesting in itself! The ship has been kept up as well as possible, given its age, and the grounds around which its kept have been well maintained also. Be prepared to pay to board the ship, though entrance to the park and grounds is free.
false
Incredible experience. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing such a well preserved piece of history!
Daniel Bucklin
As someone that served in the US Navy it's really cool to go check out and see how our sailors during the WWI era had to live onboard a ship.
Definitely a must go to historical attraction to go to if you're in the Deer Park area of Houston.
Manuel Hernandez Millan
I really enjoy history and this ship has lots of it! Had an amazing experience here. Highly recommended!
Christina Carswell
Loved it so blessed to have seen such an amazing part of history!
Jodi Ponce
Museum is closed. The ship is being prepared to be moved to drydock later this month. Interesting to watch the activity of preparation.

Awesome Impressions very much imposant ship nice to see the Impressful Size nice to visit thouse place with Children between 10 to 18 years of age 😎👍👏🤙💪😎 …
Chris R
A must see. Actually you should know that is sinking?
Verseless Cooking
A piece of history that must be remembered. This ship served in both World Wars and is the sole Dreadnought-type Battleship remaining. Anyone curious about naval history and passing through Texas should visit the USS Texas. It's free for military and veterans with ID, so go, and please, if you get in free, donate to the restoration funds. This ship was launched in 1913 and parts of her are older. There's not too many century old warships left, please, do what you can to enjoy her and save her.

The experience the ship has been through and the techniques used to build some components are a testament to early 19th century craftsmanship and engineering. It is a great experience and eat to spend an afternoon.
Alex Eckardt
Great place to visit. It’s perfect for an afternoon with the family and the volunteers really make the place extra special with passion and knowledge. We spoke to Lee and Herb and they were both awesome.
Laci Lindsay
Pretty freakin awesome. I would suggest going in cooler weather though as there is no AC. You can walk or climb most the ship and some of the parts still work.
Wesley Regitz
Awesome attraction!
Lots of history here to see and so much fun!
Come early and be ready to walk alot and climb so many stairs! You will get lots of exercise!!!!
Antonio Florit
Really nice battleship. Worth the visit. The adult ticket costs 12$.
Jusie Rodriguez
This was the port for the battle at San jacinto, we learned interesting facts about the battleship and saw the true artifacts from the times She sailed out to sea, amazing history from it and seeing inside you can imagine the soldiers everywhere.
W Davis
Worth the trip! I'm happy she's going into drydock to get properly repaired!
When the museum reopens, GO

It was a great visit on the ship today. This was the first time in many years.but this Time was different because it was with my son.
Marlon Urbina
Brought a friend while he was visiting Houston. He's a military buff and he just loved it! Staff was very helpful. He actually asked like a billion question and each one was responded accurately and entertainingly.
Kazi Kader
It's an old war ship from almost a hundred years ago, so don't go in there expecting it to look, feel and smell like the Hamptons. It's pretty well kept. A must-visit for any history buff that might enjoy the historical significance of this ship. I know I did!
Mary Salazar
I tour this beautiful ship so many times... I visit her for the first time back in the late 70's and I have come back many years to visit her... she is such a beauty... I was also blessed to bring my grandchildren to visit her..
Benjamin Hooper
Wonderfully preserved piece of history. Iconic location, easily accessible. Loved my many visits here. Peaceful place
Jessica Blevins
Was a very fun adventure for our family as well as a good learning experience. And very reasonable prices also.
John Haynes
As a native Houstonian I've been several times from child hood through adult hood. My son and I even did the overnighter and slept in the same bunks as the Seaman who crewed over 100 years ago! Talk about nostalgia. I'll never forget the smell of the cold steel and paint! Never disappointing! So glad they're going to dry dock and repair it to it's former glory! USS Texas is sister to the USS Arizona(which sank during Pearl Harbor and is still there today. Ironically the state doesn't touch an ocean!🤣) I would love to visit there someday. Pear Harbor NOT Arizona! God Bless the greatest generation that ever lived in and for The United States of America!
Luis Alarcon
I loved going there... i felt i was on the soldiers feet.. I understood how living overseas is like.. this is definitely one of my favorite spots in texas
Kimberly Noble
Volunteer staff was the greatest! Spent about 30 minutes with the man at the entrance telling us all kinds of information about the ship. Appreciated all the information and the experience. If you have a Texas state parks pass your pass will cover admission for 6.

Place is just magnificent.the quality of history is the battle ship proud to stand on this ship
Ashley Allen
Currently under renovation so much of the ship in inaccessible. The storyteller was extremely boring. It's still an interesting place to visit
Colleen Howell
It was incredible to see this amazing battleship! So much we all need to remember, and be grateful for in this wonderful country, the land of the free!
Blake Northrup
Love this place. Have been going since I was a child, and am now taking my kids.
Robert Levi
It's a great place to site see, hang out and 🐠 with friends and family. …
Jamie Campbell
Both my kids enjoyed going and exploring. We hope to visit it again in its new location
Christopher Lamb
Great experience for kids or adults. An amazing piece of history that's worth the trip for sure.
Michelle Addams
Take one of the scheduled tours that go below decks (the hard hat tour). For every sailor that fired the guns, there were more that kept them capable of firing from below and their story almost never gets told...here, it does!
Allstar Ambassador (Houston Insider)
Phenomenal experience as this is a location we often bring visitors and it is mind blowing each time. Board and explore the only Battleship used in both World War 1 and World War II.
Greg Roth
Loved visiting this old gal! The history and preservation of this old gal make it a must see for history buffs,
Rebecca Lorraine
This place is totally cool! Get to climb into and on top of all kinds of stuff, I was really surprised.
Victor Delgado
My family and I really enjoyed learning about a little piece of Texas history. There's even an awesome view of the ship from the San Jacinto monument.
Jonathan Franco
There is nothing more "Texan" then being on the Battleship Texas. Make sure to come see this bad boy before he leaves for restoration by the end of this year. When you come make sure to wear something comfortable, and bring water (have the water in the car because you cant walk around with it). when exploring the Texas it often get pretty hot so its best if you are comfortable, and flip-flops are an iffy idea because within the battleship there are metal pieces of the ship sticking out. Also when your done seeing the Battleship you can check out the stature of the fallen solders and other historical pieces. Not to mention the to check out the Brigham Monument that is located on the other side of the battleship.
Russell Betts
Wonderful place love going here.
Great to se the work they are doing to save the Battleship
MICHELLE FRANCIS-S.
Took my granddaughters to see the Battleship. It was amazing to see their eyes get so wide. We truly enjoyed the trip.
Charles Hagar
I've been here so many times as child and now I was able to take my child and wife to explore the monument and the battleship. It was a great experience. Too bad it's closed for repairs
dan barton
Sucks it's closed but still awesome to see up close
blanca suarez
It was nice, but the battleship. Still close
Only we can visited the San jacinto museum
Ed Arias
Loved the ship and being able to see how WW1 and WW2 sailors lived and worked
J Brand
We went to see Battleship Texas on her last Sunday in LaPorte. She was obviously closed to the public but we wanted to see her one last time before her departure to drydock in Galveston. So excited she's finally getting repairs done! Sad though that she won't be coming back but I hope that more people will be able to see her wherever her new home will be once she's all fixed up.
Chris S
We went to visit it before they take it away. All the vintage accessories that were in the canteen were packed away. But it was still a great experience!
Abdulrahman Salah
Nice view
The ship is still closed for public
Julie Bailey
Battleship was open to visitors for two days this weekend. We took advantage of this special event. Santa was a special visitor 🎅. …
Prince Ankit Singh
Great place to visit to the feel of being on a world war battleship
Amanda Compton
Sad to see her go. This is like saying goodbye to a piece of my childhood. I hope they decide to bring her to Galveston. 💔 …
Masha Murry
Very informative. Cool place to look at with the whole family
Vitaliy Korobkov

Great place to take the kids and explore an historic ship. Take your time and look around. You will be suprised how big the ship really is.
Michael Salas
This place is great. Lots of history here!
Aria Litherland
We had a field trip here with friends. We had a great tour guide and had fun. Sad to see it leave La Porte.
J B
Great place for an amazing history lesson. The hard hat tour is great. Go early in the morning, before it gets too hot. The inside is air conditioned which makes it more bearable. Your free to roam around at your own pace, handsets are available if you choose to do the self-guided tour.
Introverted Travels
Everyone needs to see this exhibit. Kudos to the volunteers for restoring so much of the ship!
gabe
Battleship Texas is temporarily open for 4th of July weekend. It is still undergoing restoration, but it was well worth the visit. I had not been there since I was a kid. The history of the old ship is amazing. The volunteers were top notch, friendly and full of knowledge. Well done volunteers!
kaelyn miller
It was very nice to see what an actual battleship looks like on the outside and inside
Julie Banks
Amazing wish it was staying in this location after it gets fixed up.
Jack Lansford
Awesome piece of history but it is a shame it's not in better condition
Sulaiman Alsikhan
It was really fun activity. It is A must. Read a little about it before you come, this will add extra fun.
Valerie B.
Had a troop overnight here that I helped chaperone and it was awesome! The kids loved it and it was very educational. They gave the kids a quiz to make sure they were paying attention and kept it fun. I enjoyed that they had everyone request permission to board the ship and come back ashore, like the sailors had to. When we left the next morning we all had to salute the U.S. flag after requesting permission to go ashore, instilling a sense of respect to one's country for the children. Overall great experience and would love to do it again if the opportunity ever arises.
Anastasiia “Stacy” Selivanova
Interesting historical battleship, not perfect condition, but still gives you tons of information
Carlos De Sa
Very nice place to come with kids or family.
NessMor_ Love
My first experience at this place. I had a great time. And is very educational. Must make it a field trip day.
Steven Hudson
Excellent tour for entire family. I'd recommend for anyone in the area or passing by. Repairs are always going on though so some parts of ship closed off. I hear that eventually they would like to dry dock ship to help preserve it. Worth the 3-12$ price of admission. Take your lunch and stay a while. Beautiful park with trees close by for great views of this majestic beauty.
Raymond Chapa
The Battle of San Jacinto is one of the most important in American history. The victory there allowed for Texas to separate from Mexico, then Texas became part of America and then Mexico started a war that ended in them losing and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo where America paid Mexico for what is now much of the SW United states, including California. Without that victory at the battle of San Jacinto, America would not have Texas and California, two states that individually have some of the largest economies in the world. America wouldn't be half of what it is today with that victory. Our Confined Space Rescue TEAM trained on that ship for years & was an HONOR to go into areas not allowed to visitors. Great memories GREAT SHIP - BATTLESHIP TEXAS!!
LJ Jr.
First time.on board in almost 40 years. Got a lot more out of it this go round than last time.
Doug Clarke
Amazing to be able to walk through the ship. You can even get inside a turret
Erica Vaughan
Such a beautiful ship, full of so much history.
Txtravler
nice place, very cool ship
Joe Marroquin
Great place for your kids to learn both American and Texan History! I will come again with other family members to share the experience!
Krishna
Piece of history that a person can learn about and connect with. Easy to purchase tickets. Staff is very courteous and prompt. Gift store has lots to choose from. Be ready to climb some stairs when actually on the battleship. Definitely a great place to visit if going with family and friends.
Renee J
This historic artifact is such a gem of Texas! Even though there is ongoing work to restore and keep it afloat it leaves you impressed. The volunteers has amazing knowledge and are happy to share stories of her life. Much of the ship is accessible. The ship is in a historic park itself with lots of other American history on in.
Angie Armstrong
Great history. Great ship. Staff is knowledgeable if you go in the summer be prepared its HOT
Neal Duncan
This place was fantastic! The staff was extremely knowledgeable.
Cody P
The battleship was still closed when I visited in late April of 2021 which was a real bummer but I knew that before visiting. At least you can still approach it and admire its beauty. I hope to finally tour it someday when it opens up again in probably 30 years.
Eric Kolber
We were glad when we came to see the San Jacinto monument and museum that the battleship Texas was still there since she is slated to be moved to drydock for work. What a magnificent example, and only two left in the world of pre- dreadnought battleships. Even though we couldn't go on board she was a magnificent sight.
angels car auto repair services
sinces i remember want to come and visit this historic ship
Brent Gardner
This is an amazing ship! I've visited twice. I want to tour her again, but keep reading that she's closed to the public. That's a shame. This ship should be preserved. There's nothing quite like her left anywhere in the world.
Geraldine Pinales
My kids love going. Its a great place to learn. There is always work being done on the ship to keep it living on. But its not a problem for visits. Not a place for strollers lol. The stairs do get steep on some places. The grounds around it are great for the kids to play or just to sit and enjoy the day.
Noel Dejesus
Visiting this US Naval ship is amazing. Visitors can definitely be brought back in time when you step onto the vessel. The staff is amazing and I highly suggest taking the time to be part of the guided walking tour. Watch your step as you go to the lower decks. Enjoy your visit!
Al Barboza
This is a wonderful place to take the family to visit.
Angela Gondron
Had a wonderful time with the kids. Better put on you walking shoes that boat is huge. Great day out for a family outing. Kids can run the big guns they will move and they can pretend to be sailor. So much history preserved onboard. Gift shop is not to expensive. There is a huge park for more family time and a picnic lunch. So glad we went. Lots of great photo opportunities with the kids. Will definitely be going back and will also add in the monument.
Megan L
My family and I love it here. From 50+ to only 5. It is probably not the best to go in the heat of the day like we did. There was thankfully a good enough breeze and water fountains within the ship. It was very informative for all of us and has such a great view. Definitely going back as soon as the weather cools.
Whitman Fallis
How much history, from a really great time frame. This ship has been renovated for the family to enjoy and learn. Great opportunity to give back to the greatest history of our grandparents. My granddaughter and her friends loved their time and learned with out knowing it. Major Dan gives great respect to that generations! Let's learn from them before they gone.
Brook
Great place to bring the family and explore a big ship and learn some fascinating history.
Adam Garrett
Great accessibility around the whole ship. Stairs can be quite steep, so be mindful if you plan to explore. There is limited air circulation but I went on a 100% humidity day with "feels like" 105* temps and it wasn't that bad inside.
Cait Private
My 5 year old son had a blast! Highly recommend for anyone looking to WOW their kid and spend a day out of the house. Not too pricey and me and my husband enjoyed reading all the little details provided on the ship. We will go again the more they add inside the ship :)
Troy Shepherd
This battleship was a great experience. The tour is self-guided, which was nice for our kids who wanted to run to see everything. There were very well put together rooms that were set up like they were when the ship was in use. It took us about an hour to see the ship.
Judd Chase
Amazing place to visit. We drove from Galveston, and it was definitely worth the trip. Had a blast exploring the ship, top to bottom. And, to top it off, as we were leaving (2 hours later ) we realized we left our light on in our car. Battery died. The staff working the ticket show were more than happy to help, and gave us a jump start. Definitely will be back for a hard hat tour, and I recommend this place to anyone. Great experience for 12 bucks!
Sara Henderson
We've been on several battleships and aircraft carrier "museums" before. This one is one of the better because very few areas of the ship are off-limits. While the ship itself is in so-so state (it's 100 years old), it is fun to be able to climb in between decks, play on the anti-aircraft guns, and not be chased away by tour guides and security guards. Two concern points: (1) it's very hands-on and plenty of safety issues/accidents waiting to happen with children under 10 years old; (2) it could be very HOT on summer days. We went in late December and it was quite comfortable under deck when temperature was 50's outside. The drive past the chemical factories allow the shipping channel is a bonus for those who appreciate engineering.
Leslie Baldwin
Make sure and use bathrooms outside of the ship is there are no facilities on the ship. I would encourage them to work on entrance and exit facility as it is all through the very small gift shop. This is not a wheelchair or handicapped friendly display. Some of the boat is off-limits except for designated hard hat tours. Still a lot of interesting areas to explore with explanation signs and items on display.
Jose Rodriguez
An amazing piece of U.S. history. A must see!
Andrea Mays
A must see before She leaves for restoration! Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. While some of the areas are off limits (they are disassembling areas in preparation for the move), visitors are able to go to all 3 decks of the vessel, albeit via very steep, narrow stairwells. This is how and where many Naval and Marine troops called home during different battles in WW1 & WW2. If you have any appreciation at all for history, or the men that fought so hard for our freedoms we enjoy today, you will enjoy this gem. If all goes well, Texas will be moved to Alabama in December of this year for restoration, then brought back home in about 18 months. Her new home has yet to be determined, however he will definitely return to Texas! Make the time to visit...you won't be disappointed.
Dana Frost
A real piece of history! You walk around on the ship and see what it is like on different decks, in a turret, and more. There are signs to read with more information. Super fun way to learn history. Liked it better than the USS Lexington (which was really cool, too).
Bryan Benitez
Didn’t get to tour the ship, but it was a beautiful day to be out and took this picture of the battleship.
Debi Gravitt
So glad they are renovating this ship. Such an interesting history!
Tony Haynes
Monument was closed during Spring Break! rediculous. Abbot said the State was open. Guess Texas Parks n Wildlife didn't get the freaking memo. Literally 110 folks here walking around reading the Monuments. But we can't see the ship or the Museum. Poor Form from a NATIVE TEXAN.
Cecilia Marchan McGee
Great place to visit but sad to see the ship so run down.
Rk Ramsay
The ship is awesome! It was so interesting. You can go all over and see how the crew lived and worked on the ship. She saved hundreds of lives with her abilities. Go see her while you can. She is having structural problems, they are going to try to get her fixed but they don't know if she will survive the tow to the dry dock. If she does she probably won't be at the San Jacinto battle ground anymore. They will move her to better location after that so she can have more visitors.
George Frey
Great piece of history both for military and engineering types. This is more of an artifact than a museum and they let you explore all over the place. Do the hard hat tour if you can plan ahead. This was also great for my 2 yr old who loves boats (navy guys where quick to correct him that it is a "ship"). Kids of all ages were rotating the smaller guns and climbing up to the bridge. If you go on a weekend, be careful that lynchburg ferry only starts running at 11.
Kevin Pausicles
Awesome experience to be able to visit the second deck and to see the battleship life underneath.
Eljay Koomba
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this landmark of a ship. Super hot of a day though but I rather it than raining. The ship was well kept and the things to see and read up on are a real eye opener. To think it was a full on running ship at some time. Pictures speak so many words when you're walking through the halls and looking in on the room's. The seats where you can operate the guns or cannons was awesome. You can sit and steer the directions of these guns. Walking up the huge tower was great for pictures. A little steep so careful.
Julia M. Chambers
This was a beautiful visit and it was as cool for the adults as it was for the kids. Bathrooms are outside in the park, not on the ship. There is a little snack shack outside as well. Picnic tables are available in the surrounding park area. Parking was a little skimpy, but we went during spring break and there were some buses there too. Anyone 6'1" or taller will need to watch their heads in some places inside the ship. There are many exhibits inside the ship (down below), as well as the obvious decks outside with artillery the kids (and adults) can climb on or inside of. Spend at least an hour and take your time. Lots to see inside. Also, friends tell us that they got to camp for the night with their cub scout troop and participate in a hard hat tour. After what we got to see, which was awesome, the cub scout night on the ship must have been even better!
Dario Chavez
I recently visited Battleship Texas for the first time in March of 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed everything there is to see. This place is a great attraction for families and history buffs alike. Admission is also reasonably priced, I think I spent around $24 for two adults. I can spend hours marveling at the all of the manual dials and controls that were designed in a time before the pervasive use of computers. That fact alone is impressive in itself. Whether you're a local or visiting, I highly recommend making a stop.
Tonja Hall
So sad to see this ship I grew up running through and on moving. So many times plans were to dry dock her and it never happened. Wonder where she will go?
P Lopez (LowKeyLopez)
Rich with History…I could picture the sailors!!
Samuel Wasden (Sam)
Awesome! Highly recommend any nautical or world war 2 enthusiast visit and relish in the last floating New York Class battleship.
Blake G
Was not open to board the boat, but was ok because we did not have time to do so.
David Cutchin
Battleship Texas is super cool. I just wish their hours extended past 5pm.
Larry Sorensen
I took the "Hard Hat" tour with a group of my friends. This tour is led by a (very, very well informed) team of volunteers, and visits parts of the ship that are not open to the general public. As the name states, you are issued a hard-hat for the tour, as some of the areas accessed must be reached through low openings, or traverse stairs with places likely to find your head unexpectedly. It takes over three hours, but it is well worth it. Fascinating stories, and an incredibly fascinating ship. Well worth the time and cost of admission! Highly recommended.
Amanda Harris
Closed to public for repairs but was able to get close
Rick N
This is a special historical place. A lot of history here from the battleship to the San Jacinto museum and grounds. What took place here had an affect on not just Texas, but the United States as well. It is worth it to ride to the top of the tower monument and see the surrounding area. It also gives a great perspective to battle grounds. Neat place to go and a whole lot to see. This is a must see historical place. Grounds are nice for a picnic as well. Spring or fall is the best time for a visit. Also nice ferry ride if you head Northeast when you leave the park.
Liza McDow
What a historical relic! If only this ship could tell tales. We have now visited it three times one time being the Hard Hat tour. Still feel like we have missed things. Take about four hours and explore then have a picnic and head down the road to the San Jacinto Monument. What a great day!
Jacob W
Had a great time learning about the battleship going into the main guns and climbing up and down the decks. The staff were amazing and answered all our questions. Great for groups or scouting events and you can even sleep on the boat to get the full experience.
Anders S
This is a place for people who are seriously interested in history and nimble enough to climb ladders in small spaces. If you are claustrophobic, don't even think about going there. This is a very old historic battleship. It is not in good condition overall. Very dirty and lots of rust, but if you are a history junkie like I am, you will love it. You get to go inside a 14 inch gun turret.
D C
Cool to go see, read the headstones and pay your respects while there. It's really peaceful, car shows go on randomly and regularly but they aren't loud and stupid like my generation likes to be. They respect the area. Come down and see it
Christopher Clarke
This was neat. Built during WWI, used extensively through WWII. For 12 bucks for an adult, you can tour the ship, going up and down ladders. You'll have access to the half of the tall tower, decks two and three below, as well as the engine room. There are many informative signs along the way. It is owned by the state park system, so your annual pass will work, there.
Betty Lewis
We took our 10 year old grandson and it was awesome....no better way to help highlight the men and women before us that fought to preserve our freedoms! This beauty is so rich in history. We have vowed to return after its restoration!
Anthony Acosta
I thought I was a proud Texan already... After visiting the USS Texas and learning so much about this Dreadnought Class Battleship and how it was the most powerful weapon in the world.... well, you can imagine my Texas pride is off the charts! This is a fantastic park to visit. You can feel the history flowing throughout the ship. It's utterly amazing.
Jesse Travels
Both the Battleship Texas and the San Jacinto Monument were amazing attractions! Very informative. Beautiful setting... Great place to learn more about Texas history! Awesome place to go to do some sightseeing lots of wildlife and birds to photograph hiking trail is extremely overgrown with all sorts of stuff. Watch where you step!
jennifer collins
Went to tour the USS Texas. For a battleship that is 116 years old she is looking pretty good. I wouldn't recommend taking really small children that require strollers. There are a lot of narrow, steep, stair wells. We still managed to explore the whole ship with our 8 month old and umbrella stroller, but it was a challenge. We had a blast. Lots of informative posters.
Elizabeth Garcia
It was my first time there. It was an amazing experience
Ryker Jenkins
This ship is an awesome piece of history. I'm glad I got to see it and I hope they manage to keep it afloat so others can as well. There is no other ship like it left in the world that I am aware of.
Stefano Rizzotti
This ship is awesome and surrounded by a nice park where I had a relaxing walk. Best is to visit in the early morning. Right now and for the next 18 months there will be some major refurbishment works ongoing, so mind that many areas of the ship will not be accessible. Still is totally worth the visit and the employed are super friendly
David Cotlar
I first visited this ship as a young boy in the 1950's, later with all my
children, and now all grandchildren, local and visiting. It combines
the enjoyment of viewing, climbing, and experiencing with the
education and inspiration that children (and everyone else) should
have in order to appreciate the sacrifice of members of our armed
forces going back a century. Nothing replica here, just the real
structures of a battleship, left intact enough that you do need to
watch your younger kids on those stairs and near the sides of
the ship. But that's a plus, not a negative. Not a really long drive, very reasonable admission, and you can visit the San Jacinto battleground and monument very close by. In an age of so much video substitution, the real thing is especially important and valuable for youngsters. Highly recommended.
Randolph Cirilo
I had not been to this place since I was a child. When I heard they were taking it away for ever, I felt I needed to return one more time.. Im so glad I did. To see her one more time, as an adult, when I could truly appreciate what it was to have that amazing peice of history in my own city, well I would never forgive myself. Shes gone now.. Ill miss that beautiful thing.
gail bell
It was an absolute pleasure to walk the ship. I even got to play around on the anti aircraft guns. Great place for photo ops to! I went once when I was a kid and ruined the picks because I opened the camera up and exposed the film. Ya I'm that old lol!
Javier Franco
Catch a piece of history in Houston area before it leaves! Plan on spending ~2hrs there. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Steep stairs. Can get hot in some areas in summer. Ship showing its age at time of review. Guess why they are moving it to get more visitors for funds. Great to get an appreciation for this piece of history. If traveling with large group, recommend just getting the Texas state parks year pass.
Benjamin Pohlmeyer
It was the best because I went there when I was 7 and now I am nine it bring you happiness when you see ever thing
Tan P
Historical monument for the folks that are curious about battleships. The wind is strong here so be careful if you plan on wearing any hat or fly-able accessory.
The surrounding park is very spacious. Pay $12 for entry to the ship. The money should go toward the lovely folks working to preserve the ship. Keep the battleship floating!
Buddy Conyers
Did not have the time to tour this grand ship but was able to get a great front and side view where its moored. Although fully restored several yeats ago, a little rust on the hull is creeping back. But this does not take away its magnificent grander as an important vessel of WWII. It put a smile on my face tp see the radar tower turning. Nice touch
JONATHAN CEN
Very majestic battleship, proud and proud of you.
A Balasubramanian
It was a wonderful overnight experience in the battleship. We were very much surprised about the technologies they used on the ship. The soldiers how they were living on the ship, their kitchen, toilet, bathroom, laundry, hospital, dentist and extra. Worth to visit.
Charles M
Had a great time. If you like us history this is a must to you
Aishwarya manjunath
Very happy with our visit to battleship
Micah Covey
Lots of history on this ship! Wonderful place to remember our national heritage! Men of that Great Generation have given their lives for our freedom and liberty, and others took extreme risk! So glad we can still tour this battleship, the USS Texas!!
Jada Dixon
Awesome experience. Go NAVY aka Marine taxi 😂 …
Shawn Hardy
Great view into history, with a great overnight program. Don't get me wrong... It's rough around the edges. But, one visit and I'm hooked. Take your kids, your cubs and your scouts. This place needs to survive for the future so everyone can enjoy and learn!
Tran Anh
Amazing ship, you must visit at TX
Ricky Pike
We didn't get on the battleship but the view of it was still impressive. The kids enjoyed seeing it up close and it was enough to satisfy. Even if you don't tour the ship, a quick stop to check it out is worthwhile.
Antionette Portillo
What an extraordinary site. The ship is huge and you can explore it all on your own.
Dan Hogan
We enjoyed the tour on a hot day. One of our party was access challenged by the upper levels... The Museum does well with the funding they are allotted. But, their is much deferred maintenance.
CHRISTY
It's a fun place to visit, I've gone a few times. It's too bad it will be located in another area from what I've seen on the news. I made sure to take my last pictures of the ship before it's gone for restoration and location!!! Wish it had a/c, because lord does it get hot inside the ship.
Oliver Leonard
The Battleship Texas is the only remaining dreadnought style Battleship in the World. The 107 year old veteran of both World Wars is worth trip to see. Especially now that her engine rooms are again opened to the public. The engines themselves are a National Engineering Historical Landmark and are an amazing site. While there grab one of the docents in the blue polo shirts and ask questions about the ship and her unique history or for a tour. Many are happy to do so and all love to answer questions. Some spaces will be hard to access for older and younger visitors but there is something for everyone. I would recommend wearing close toed shoes as well.
Don Kostuck
My son and I went on a self guided tour and enjoyed every minute. There is a ton of good information. Occasionally we bumped into park rangers who were very knowledgeable and friendly. We spent about 3 hours in all, but you could finish it in 1 1/2 bours if you rushed it.
Dana Gidner
Took a visit of This in July. It reminded me of when I was around 8 and visited the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi with my parents. A very neat experience even again as an adult, If you are into those sort of things. I love historical things. A great thing for kids to keep a summer informative, if you have kids. I think that is why my parents did it. Maybe not in JULY THOUGH, In Texas. :)
The only downfall was the amount of construction it had at the time.
Jeff H4
Been visiting her since the 1950s. Kids, Gkids all, we have taken on her. I will be glad to visit again no matter where she goes after dry dock.
H S
12 per adult, 5 per kids under 5 is free
Evan Stewart
I was beyond captivated during the 2+ hours I spent walking around the memorial and touring the battleship itself. Being a history nerd and Navy veteran, it was a great way to spend an afternoon. Can't wait to go back.
Richard Smith
Great tour and fun place to hang pool out with the kids. Wish they could do more to get the ship back into a moderate shape. Lots of hull rust and water leakage below.
Matt Cousins
Fantastic place to learn about American history.
Trevor DeVassie
Unfortunately it was closed but was happy to hear its moving to a dry dock for repairs and will go to a new location
Random One
A great place of American and Texas History! This ship has been around the world. It is an amazing piece of history. Please note it's tight on the tour and you'll be going in confined quarters with steep steps not the best for people with mobility issues or claustrophobia.
Adam Foxworth
It was very cool, as in it was nice because the actual temperature was extremely hot.
Mark Jackson
I love old ships. This one is the second oldest I've seen and the oldest I've had the pleasure to tour. Big problems with the ship as it literally falling apart. I hope they can get some money together to actually save this ship before it completely rusts away into nothingness. Amazing how they built things this big and heavy over 100 years ago! Go see it before it's gone forever.
C. St James
The ship alone was awesome. But I think my favorite part was all the "wannabe's" dressed in sloppy uniforms acting like bada$$es, being a Veteran with 22+years I found it comical so I was definitely amused. (Disclaimer: It was easy to pick out the actual Veterans since they took way more pride in their appearance). How does the rude dark haired lady selling tickets in the gift shop still have a job?
Heavenly Smile
An interactive history lesson for the whole family! Absolutely amazing to see what we are capable of building and how she held up in battles during both World Wars. Wear good shoes to better manage the steep stairwells as you take a glimpse into a sailor's life on the Battleship Texas!
Anthony Pendleton
It has a special place in the hearts of most Texans, and has served our country proudly during 2 World Wars!
Brian Gordon
Be prepared to spend more then an hour to take in the ship. She is a reminder of a bygone era. You can feel history in her steel and in the air. Go in the afternoon and stay tell sunset if you can. You will be rewarded with amazing photos.
Kaiser Snider
Come on Texas! A lovely ship and the only Dreadnought type ship left in the world. Needs a lot of help so if you can shop, donate, or if you live in Texas ask for more funding. Don't want to loose this historical ship.
Janet Noordenbos
It was closed but still amazing to look at.
Robert Aylor
Awesome history, fun to wonder around and imagine what it was like on the ship
Mark Matsusaki
I had the opportunity to take the Hard Hat tour and would recommend spending the extra money if you have the time. The docents who lead the tour are extremely informed and go above and beyond in sharing the history of the ship.
Wear smart shoes, and pants that you don't mind getting dirty. Gloves would also be a plus.
Do not go in the warm months, or go early in the morning.
Jimmy M
My first visit was in elementary school in the ‘60s. Very interesting as an adult, too. I hope a solution can be found to permanently preserve this national treasure. Texas, the United States, and history, deserve it.
Cara Bozeman
Very cool battleship and has restrooms outside but, make sure to get there a couple hours before close or you wont get to tour. The road to the memorial closes 30 minutes before "close" so plan accordingly!
Christa Rafidi
My kids loved it. Great way to show them history
Tom Riggins
This has been one of our favorite places to visit since we moved here 6 years ago. The history of this ship is so fantastic and richly entwined with the era that made this country a super power. You leave wishing you could see more and every time we come back I find something new.
Sheldon Rock
Undergoing restoration and is going to look amazing when completed. So much to learn and visualize on the ship. We spent over two hours onboard and the tour host(selfguided) was very knowledgeable.
Joe Palmer
Very interesting fact that this is the only ship on display that served both in World War 1 and World War II. It's currently going through renovation, however they are still open. the reason for four stars is that the renovation distracts from the tour of the ship, also I felt that many areas could be on display but weren't because of renovation.
Michael Cowling
I loved the old battleship. Sadly, as of right now (October 26, 2019) the ship is closed to the public with no plans to reopen. She is badly damaged and in need of serious repair work after the last couple of tropical storms. They even emptied out the gift shop. I'd call before you head out there.
G Lee
I have lived in Texas my whole life and have somehow managed to never visit Battleship Texas. Its under major renovations currently but is an amazing piece of history that everyone should visit. The ship takes you back in time. Everything is solid steel and although its a little grimey and dusty, you can still understand what it was like to live on the ship. Its not air conditioned except for 1 room but its still doable in the Texas summer heat. You should definitely consider bringing water with you though because you will sweat! Its an old ship so you will come across a lot of steep staircases. Wear something with grip in the soles of your shoes. I went on a rainyish day and slipped in my sandals. Had an awesome experience!
Bas H
Nice experience, however today 12/05/2021 is the last day for you to visit the ship. The ship will be at a different location pending maintenance.
Tru3 North
Amazing ship, a virtual time machine going back to WWI. The crew is the best, while repairing the ship they took me on a personal tour letting me into part's of the ship normally locked off. Everyone there have a real passion for the old lady.
Z Marrs
Always in various states of repair, so the value of your ticjets might not be that great, but its a 100+ year old ship, its not the easiest thing to keep floating. At last visit, the restoration work was really nice.
Michael Todd
I took my 14 yo son on his first USS Texas Hard Hat Tour. He had a blast. The volunteers that handle the tour are amazing. Especially the boiler room volunteer. He is a Pearl Harbor survivor. This was my third time on this tour and they have opened up more rooms for this tour.
The Hard Hat Tour happens 3-4 times each year. Take the time. 100% of the money collected for this tour goes directly back into keeping this ship afloat.
Go see this incredible piece of history!
Rodolfo Tovar
It's awesome to see how history unfolds by itself in front of you. That ol' battle ship enriches you with history, and historic events that took place in WW2. It's a place to bring your family, and enjoy the scenery...
James Mosley
Great experience. Fascinating to see the inside of the ship and imagine how life might have been for the sailors. Definitely will be going back during the months they allow the hard hat tours.
Lincoln Fox
Several of the gun turrets are usable to turn and aim like they were for the sailors which is fun for kids and the young at heart. Can go below deck to see living quarters which is interesting and can cling stairs to upper decks as well
James
Great experience with my son. Much bigger than expected and I didn't realize you could go below deck. Had a lot of fun with the family and recommend this piece of WW1 and WW2 era history.
Lee Baker
I am from Australia and the chance to walk onboard such a piece of history was fantastic. For $12 its a bargin to keep this piece of history afloat, I spent the better part of 3 hours reading and walking around such an amazing ship!!!!
These are the kinds of things that keep the memory of the people who gave there lives so that we may have a better one.
Congrats Texas great bit of history.
waco trumpet
Whole family (kids 10, 13, 16) loved our 1.5 hours on board. They call it a self-guided tour, but really it is a chance to wander over (and under) several decks of a classic WWI dreadnaught, check out living conditions (there are a few surprises), and even operate a couple of anti-aircraft guns (no firing, of course). Not that cheap at $12 per person, but I can assure you it is WORTH it!
Laila Alizadeh
My husband, son and myself visited a few weekends ago. Very cool ship and friendly staff. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is b/c I reminded my husband to show his Military ID to see if he could get a discount. The lady asked if he was retired military. He responded with no, he is a Veteran. She said they give no discounts to Veterans, just retired or active. I thought that was kinda crazy and disrespectful. Not her fault but they should change this policy. He served his country for God sake.
Vinanti Mistry
My boys want to go there again and again. There are some canons kids can rotate. You can climb really up. Plus it's very important for kids to see the history.
Don Morgan
Beautiful Battleship and history. Unfortunately unable to tour due to work on the inside.
Sheri
Had a fantastic junior tour at 11 am the day we went specifically for kids 6-12. The park ranger who gave the tour was excellent. My boys loved it.
Jerry McSpadden
Have visited the Battleship many times, great place to bring out of town guests. It has been just recently taken out of visiting status for getting much needed reverb.
Ryan Ko
I'm a history buff so I absolutely loved the ship. I hope the renovations and move go well because id love to return for a more in-depth tour of this great piece of living history.
Ming Zong
Very nice battleship to tour. Lots of area is open for visit.
Tracy Was Here
I love anything historical. This is a great area to explore.
Ryan Smith
Top knotch exhibits and great staff. Will visit again
Brenda Durham
Love this big beautiful ship. You will always have a special place in my heart. I've been comin here sense I was a child, and now my grandchildren had their first of many trips to our Battleship Texas.
Hussain Al Lawati
Very nice place to visit. Care must be taken when using stairs inside the battleship esp for kids. $12 entrance fee apply for adults. Kids enter for free. Texas State Parks Pass holders enter for free.
Raymond Chiu
Must visit! Very cool to see an actual battleship.
Maurice Peugh
This place is worth the cost of admission if you like history and have an interest in ships. It is sad that it has not been taken care of as it should have been. Avoid the San Jacinto monument unless you want to be disappointed.
Gary Cannon
I went as a teenager in the 60's and took my kids in the 80's and grandchildren in 2000's. Great place to share history with family and friends. You stand on the ship and you can almost visualize how is must of been during World War II. During a visit in the 60's I heard a man tell his family. "The last time I saw the Battleship Texas, she was firing over my head as we were landing." That statement has stuck with me for 55 years. If you haven't visited San Jacinto Park and walked on the decks of the Battleship Texas you are missing out!!
William Verevkin
I cannot explain the awesomeness of walking the decks of this dreadnought! The history, the greatness of its existence, and the fact that this is a vessel that was in both World War 1 and World War 2 is such a symbolic representation of the warship's fortitude under fire! You hear people say, they don't build them like they used to, and ships like this take that sing to a whole new level!
Bill Ponder
A lot of renovations undereway, so some sections of the ship are not accessible. However, the areas that you can get to are full of history with plaques and information posters everywhere. There are several gun battery that you you can still move and aim (can't fire, though...lol). You can go derp below deck to the engine room and to the flag bridge. Very cool old battleship!!!
Karan Bhavsar
Definitely visit here! I came on Tue morning. It wasn't crowded at all. It'll take about 2 hrs to finish the tour. The entry fee is cheap. Parking is free.
Chris Killgore
Pretty cool to see the history of the ship and explore it. Definitely would go back when it isn't the summer time and hot/humid. There is some a/c to help cool off though.
William Pickering
Absolutely love and we will return for the hard hat tour
Jared Weis
My family loves coming here and seeing the ship. We honestly come about twice a year because my boys enjoy it so much and we like to take family that may be visiting. Great time for the whole family!
Lucas D.
A stunning and impressive ship! I must say, it was an honor being on such a historical monolith.
Cable Rhodes
Very cool to see. Great history, worth the trip.
Jesse Greene
Beware the Battleship is well away from Houston! We did the non guided self-tour and found it well worth the trip.
John White
Always a treat to go aboard the Texas. She's the only super Dreadnaught left in the world.
Beau Valdez
Amazing experience with my 4 little ones. Got to go on its last weekend before heading to drydock for repairs.
Matthew Anderson
The only ship that is actually owned by the state it is named after. One of the last ships afloat to serve with distinction in both World Wars. I'm not sure you can call yourself a true Texan if you have not visited YOUR ship, and looked over the groves where Texas became a Nation. I'm slightly biased because I volunteer on the ship, but every visitor helps TPWD maintain and restore these State treasures. Come see this great state's history in person.
ford gt2
Loved it and loved the overnight atmosphere
The tour guides were very informative and sure the ship was hot but that was the atmosphere I was willing to take and frankly the best battleship tour guides I’ve seen
F. Garcia
Awesome place to visit with the family. Just be very cautious with smaller children because the stairs throughout the ship are very steep and with very low railings. Overall it's a very neat experience.
Sharad Singhal
Visited post closing time in the evening. Very impressive from outside as well. They had closed the place due to some fire emergency. I could see many news outlets covering the situation. I did not see any fire though.
Frank Carrel
Battleship Texas took part in some of the most significant naval battles of the 20th century during both world wars. Now docked along the Houston Ship Channel, she serves as a memorial to those turbulent times. Come walk her decks, and imagine life as a sailor!
Things to Do
Explore the battleship on your own or on a guided tour. They offer a variety of tours and programs, as well as student programs.
Picnic nearby at San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. You will find picnic tables, grills and water faucets in the park. Rent the picnic pavilion overlooking Buffalo Bayou for your group gathering. Hold your next meeting in the ship’s conference room.
Joel Escalante
Recently visited Battleship Texas for the first time with my family and enjoyed everything there is to see. This place is a great attraction for families and history buffs. A must see before it leaves our area.
Shannon Grimble
Yes it's worth the $12 (veterans get in free) wear some comfortable shoes ~ I would definitely go in the Fall ~ the ship is huge ~ I would suggest to have people on the ship so you can ask questions
Kourtney B
Only adults pay!! Fun fun fun learning experience!
Ivana Ponce
Historic battleship, walking in the past, educational, 2 levels to explore, 2nd level can get hot and stuffy just depends of the temperature outside that day. 1 area has A/C so you can take a break from heat. Fair ticket prices. Proud of our S.S. Texas!
JD Hicks
An awesome historical experience. The USS Texas served in both WWII and WWI, making it older than most other WWII battleship museums. It is not however the only battleship owned by the state it's named after. Other examples include the USS Alabama acquired by the state of Alabama September 12, 1963, and docked in Battleship Memorial Park (which also contains the USS Drum submarine, and several aircraft) in Mobile, AL, and the USS North Carolina acquired by that state April 29, 1962, and docked in Wilmington, N.C. In addition there are local non-profit organizations that operate the USS Massachusetts docked in Fall River,MA since August 14, 1965, and the USS New Jersey docked in Camden,NJ since January 20, 2000. All of these aforementioned ships served in WWII, the USS Texas also in the first World War, while the others were built later. The USS New Jersey also served in Korea, Vietnam and Lebanon.
syed osman
One of the amazing things which I did in my life , there is no way you can beat the experience of this great battleship if wasn’t in condition where in I could check a lot of things out but whoever is going there it’s going to be worth it and just words can’t tell how great it feels to be there.
Matt Sheehan
Awesome battleship to see! Great history!
Melinda Ezernack
We really enjoyed touring the battleship. I hope it's moved back after the repairs are completed. My kids can't wait to go again.
Quint 1836
An amazing experience. So glad she's getting the repairs she's needed for decades
Jack Giblin
My wife Susan is a native born in Texas went to this historical
Monument when she was in grade school. The memory had a great impact in her life. Love for the Lone Star State is always there!
G Gray
Awesome preservation of our naval history. The tours are nice and you learn a lot of information from the guides. I have been several times and plan on going back.
USNLS09 _
This place need alot of work to be back the way it use to be in the 90s. A disappointment that State is neglecting it so much. I am volunteering to make this ship great again a sad look that this was the ship why I joined the military. I'm glad I have knowledge on restoring naval ships to help.
Karl Ansel
We really enjoy coming out here and learning more about the history of the Battleship and the people that served on the ship. I encourage everyone to come out here and explore this magnificent beauty before it sails away on last time.
Charlie Padgett
Great place to visit with kids or adults. We were traveling from out of town with my Chiweenie #GumbotheChiweenie, and it was 90deg outside, so they made an exception for me bring him aboard as long as he stayed in his soft-side carry kennel!! Great folks!
Dav Tre
Great place to bring the kids to learn about history and also to see History of Texas. You do have to pay to enter the Battle Ship but the tower lower level is free, elevator is extra.
Michael Johnson
So much history on this battleship spanning both World War I and World War II. A truly amazing experience to be able to walk these decks and explore one of the most significant naval vessels of the 20th century.
Bruce Sealy
Great to be able to visit a piece of history again when they reopened it for a few days. Hopefully they will restore it to it's former glory in dry dock.
Jonas MF
As a Dane I had a 4 months internship in Texas. During the 4 months, experiencing USS Texas was by far the biggest experience of culture I had. Even more so than going to see NASA. It's incredible how free you are to walk and climb around on the ship. I hope that the Texans, the state politicians and even the federal politicians, will make sure to maintain this ship for many years to come.
Jose Rodriguez
As one of the last surviving dreadnoughts in the world it is the responsibility of the community and Texas legislature to preserve this priceless piece of history. This ship saw extensive military action and holds historic significance both for its naval technological advances and participation in both world wars, however the ships condition is degrading by the year and awareness must be raised to repair the ship before it's too late.
Alex Noll
Love being able to move and interact with the ship and her armor. She needs some love, restoration is a big issue when your 100 years old. Keep it up!
Samuel Rodgers
It was a great experience to be able to see this old WWI/WWII era battleship. However, it will be moving soon and will not be available for tours after the end of the month.
Alli Spencer-Driden
Was a little bummed that they couldn't do any on site tours as they had a special event going on (and were about to move it for repairs) but super amazing ship! And a lovely park, too.
Kerry Bradley
Having arrived in Houston when there was a thick fog provided an eerie introduction to the Battleship Texas and the mystique continued as our adventure took us below decks to see how the sailors lived. I strongly recommend going to see Battleship Texas however if you are 5'9" or taller remember to keep your head down or wear a hard hat, you will only need to forget to keep your head down once.
Ricky Holder
I hope this is the last review I have to post! This is a great piece of history. Go have a nice picnic. Please do not ask for another review from me, one review should be enough!

🛑🚩🛑🚩Importante Information from their FB page: Battleship Texas Closes to the Public Aug. 26
LA PORTE— The Battleship Texas State Historic Site will close to the public Aug. 26, allowing staff and contractors full accessibility to the ship ensuring they can safely perform the necessary preparation work ahead of a repair project. “It is important that we take the necessary steps to preserve the profound legacy of the Battleship Texas,” said Rodney Franklin, Director of Texas State Parks. “I look forward to the next chapter that the Battleship will experience after these much-needed repairs are completed. The ship has taken part in some of the most significant naval battles of the 20th century and we hope it will continue to be around for future generations of Texans to enjoy.”

Super interesting experience, especially for grandparents! We took my parents and it was crazy to think that my grandfather lived on a boat like that during WWII! SUCH tiny spaces!
Maria James
This is a great weekend getaway to take kids to learn some history and see an actual ship real close. Great parking. Bathrooms do need great improvement.
Debbie Bradley
Been on the Texas many times since I could walk. The old girl holds historical mystery that is tangible when you step on board at any age.
We all need to be vigilant in keeping her shipshape! Please participate in all continuing benifit activities to restore this gem in our Lone Star State!
Ian Hamilton
The battleship Texas is a fantastic family experience. Descend into the ship and experience the living conditions of America's defenders at sea. Notice the sparce living and how there is zero wasted space. Imagine the deafening sounds of the engine or the main gun. Climb through the bulk heads and feel the history of one of America's oldest ships.
Rain Davison
Very cool place to visit there's alot to see, and YES there is air conditioning in parts of the ship it was comfortable once you go down one level.
Rube Dually
This was the best ever! Hot and humid but no big deal it was fun. The kids and the adult enjoyed this overnight stay on the 68million pound ship.
William Brossette
Lot of good history. The State of Texas has done a great job at this park. Veterans as in most Texas parks and given discounts and treated with respect. Good place to visit.
Andrei Marinescu
Great place to visit, well worth spending a couple of hours here, to learn more about the history of the battleship Texas. Any questions you may have, they will be answered by the volunteers, a big thank you to Keith, he was amazing.
T roberts
This was great step back in history. I believe they need signage on 225 directing traffic, there used to be signs. Also should have sign at ticket desk that donations are accepted I had to ask .
Mrn Byn
This is a magnificent piece of history
You can buy tickets to tour the inside of the ship or just walk around the area while enjoying the cargo ships plying in the nearby habour
Right across from it is the San Jacinto monument
Jeremy Little
Felt like I was back in time during WW2. Very interesting to see all that goes on inside a battleship. Loved learning about the history of the ship and how it inspires modern design.
Daniel Perales
Nice place. They should have more people telling you the history behind it. But some people likes that no one is next to them. It has a great view while being a cloudy day!
Karl X.Y. Zou (Karl)
Great place to learn history and even techniques. I have been there twice with different groups. Not many battleship museums in the Southern coast. Texas is the one you should not miss.
Aditya chigateri (Aditya)
Had very good experience being there at Battleship, realised life isn't easy for navy Soldiers
Jennifer King
Really enjoyed visiting the Texas Battleship. The park itself was pretty. The restrooms were nasty. When we reported it to the rangers in the gift shop they said they called the people to come clean it. They could have done something thereselves, they were to nasty to wait...
Elba G.
Nice historic site in La Porte, Texas. It would be useful to have a guide before entering the ship to show you how to access the different areas, I recommend you to visit this place it’s a very important piece of our history.
mnky 1800
Really interesting kids had a great time definitely worth a look
Stevie Pennington
So much fun. Since we live here its always fun to come see the history of the battleship especially with the kids. If you are a history buff this is a must see for tourists.
Douglas Family
Great historical place to visit with the family. The Battleship Texas has a great story and I'm glad there are people willing to fight to keep this 100+ year old ship open to the public.
jxguxr Mtz
good: excellent historical place, a great experience to be able to get into this battle ship. bad: it's full of wasps, I think it's the only thing that should take care of these people who take care of this place
Ramah Ceria
Great historical site, educational and good place to learn about history and glad be able to visit before it closed for repairs.
S Tran
The ship was great. The problem was the cashier (the african american one). She was very rude. She yelled at us twice. When paying and when we were leaving. She yelled at us because the system was down and you could not buy merchandise but we were only looking at it.
Robert Rodriguez
I first toured the Battle Ship when I was around 10yrs old, now my family and I still come to this site 47yrs later. It's a great place to have a picnic lunch, makes me feel proud to be from Texas!!
JRusted 5.0
The battle ship is like taking a stroll in the past and seeing what beat objects and procedures a military ship was comprised of. It's a must for travelers and tourists! No disappointment here folks.
Fisherman Xing
Love the area. Battle ship, monument, big oak trees, fishing area.
Krissy Garrison
Awesome family fun. Lots of history, and neat to see it all. Kids enjoyed it, has steep stairs but otherwise a great experience.
Scott Davis
Battle ship is closed but still a sitentonsee
Matthew Stubler
Amazing piece of USA history. Exhibits were well maintained. Very interesting to see how the men serving during the world wars lived on ships. Definitely worth a stop.
Carlis Smith
This Ship has been here since I was a child...I have taken my own grandchildren on this Ship. I was sad every time she left to be repaired and was over joyed when she returned. I wish for Her return to enjoy before I die.
Sarah Jones
Very cool historical sight. You get to go through almost the entire ship. There is also a beautiful view of the monument.
glenn austerfield
Great chance to see a WW1 Era battleship that also served in WW2. You can pretty much walk the whole deck and much of the interior. If you have a Texas state Park pass, you get in for free.
KZ
Not many battleship museums in the south. Texas is the one. I have been there twice. Great place to learn techniques and history. Strong recommendation.
Matthew Cichosz
This is an amazing piece of history. It is a great experience and there are more areas that are accessible throughout the ship than any other WWII ship I have visited.
Henrik Mose
It's awesome to walk around this ship.
Tim Murray
Wonderful piece of history combined with a heroic preservation effort. Great for families. Go when it's cooler as the ship can get very hot!
Maggie Beifus
First time on a battleship! The self-guided tour was really interesting and informative; I learned quite a bit. It was fun exploring the ship.
Sarad Bhandari
They have changed that Battleship in to a museum form. An old battleship used in world war-I and world war-II. Looks so advanced and well equipped even in such a past history. It will tell you about war history, battleship technology and even about the history of military.
Jason Fricke
Went on field trip. Was very fun. It's good to learn Texas history. And if you're a tourist in the area I highly recommend going
Tayloe Norton
One of the coolest ships I've been on, tours are great and overnights are awesome.
Moe
Great place to visit and explore.
Bill Dews
really enjoyed touring this old battle wagon, you could really sense some history on her, tour sight could use some foreign language signs requesting respect for the ship, to many people stepping and climbing on things they probably shouldn't, the Texas needs to be treated with a little more respect, it will be nice to visit again when they finish reconstruction and finish the new berthing location, staff could be friendlier, they seemed stressed with the crowd, 12 bucks admission not too bad but I would encourage everyone to contribute what you can so they can complete getting her refurbished and back to her former glory, a wonderful piece of history that must be preserved
George Dickson
It's a great part of our history I love going to the Texas battleship I've been going since I've been Young I'm still going and I'm in my middle 60s
Matthew Zahand
Loved getting to experience this rich history one more time as they temporarily re-opened over labor day weekend.
Autumn Nelson
Loved what was on display and the adventures around each turn. Tip- get there when they first open because it does get very hot inside the ship.
Sarah M and KatieDM2011
I have not been in the ship for many years but I have gone down about five times. I think it's fascinating to see all the quarters and mechanics, as well as the weapons on deck!
Joe Barilari
Because I can't give it seven stars. The Texas is truly last of a breed and deserves more than just a visit, it deserves your support in donations.
While modernised in its' day , she has been hacked up post ww2, and is one of the few examples of the shipboard steam engines in existence.
The animations in the aux video room above the starboard engine will help you visualize the majesty of a double acting , triple expanding engine.
How can you not like a ship that that goes through TWO WWs with but one shipboard fatality , she's either charmed or had super well trained crews.
The dark camo paint scheme is a picturetunity best on a clear day, but she's quite distinctive and menacing on a fogging morning.
DON'T miss the boat, come see the Texas!
William McCauley
Loved touring then they had a guide to help just as we were leaving. It was fun to work the guns to turn or raise!
Soumendu Bhattacharya

Very educational and fun to tour this historical battleship. This is a a state park property so if you have the annual pass, the tour is free.

I loved to take my kids on the Texas, to learn what sacrifices the Greatest Generation made for us . My son now serves in the Navy and I think it's because of the Texas!
We also visited the San Jacinto monument and battlegrounds, where the Republic of Texas was born. The names of all the soldiers who fought under General Sam Houston are listed on the monument. Lots of Gomez's and Gonzalez's surnames. They fought for freedom and justice too.
I find that relevant to todays racial divisiveness.

We took our now adult kids here when they were children as we ourselves went as kids. This trip we took our 7 year old son and he was amazed. Love it.

It's amazing to go inside and see the history. Be ready to sweat and enjoy the history. Good condition and they're renovating/fixing stuff up.

I've been working on the reconstruction for the battleship it's really cool all the spots you'll never get to know but the rest of the ship is great.

I remember visiting the battleship with my parents as a child. Recently, my wife and I brought our son to visit the battleship with my parents. It was a great beginning to our vacation.....getting to roam the same battleship with my son and father made for and excellent visit.

Absolutely great place to visit and learn some history about it. Great for either family or individual visit. It may get very hot during summer time.

The repairs on the ship are coming on nicely. Admission prices are fair. There is a lot of interactive stuff for the whole family to enjoy.

USS TEXAS, BB 35 is closed now pending a move to dry dock for repairs. The Texas will not be returning to San Jacinto, but will have a new berth at an as yet undetermined location where more tourist traffic can support her.
Thom Buras
I grew up about ten miles from here. In fact, I would walk here from my home in Pasadena when I was in the Boy Scouts so that I could achieve a twenty mile hike for one of my badges.
Jesse Berger
Must see location for those that enjoy history and exploring. Tour is not guided, you are free to walk around everywhere on the ship at your own pace

We have checked off my bucket list. It is worth every bit of what we paid. We also contributed to the restoration fund too.

I appreciate all that the staff and volunteers have been doing to help the USS Texas. I haven't been aboard yet. But plan on it.
