Reviews of Hawaii Army Museum Society
Bill
The museum is closed on Sunday and Mondays but they have some cool displays out front. I've been in there before but I'm sure it's changed a bit over the years. Can't wait to go in on Wednesday.
The Booku
An interesting museum that provides a lot of historical context about the US Army and their role in past conflicts around the world.
Admission is free, so it's definitely worth a visit if you are looking to kill some time while in Honolulu.
John Thompson
While they will be closed from March to December 2022 it still looks like a great place to compare ordinance from the Pacific campaign. Just looking at the outside exhibit is worth a quick stop.
Brett Kimberlin
Fun to check out for the whole family. Tons of amazing history and things to look at. Highly recommend checking this museum out while you’re here!
Barry Waite
This is a surprising gem that is bigger than it looks. The museum is in a former gun battery that provides a great backdrop for military history displays from Hawaiian history to the Vietnam war.
Gam Bunyakiat Petri
Very well organized war museum. There were a lot of artifacts to see. All information provided. There are public restrooms and parking available.
Jared Kiander
Excellent place! Exhibits were great a told of the history of war on the islands as well as the United States Army involvement in Hawaii . Authentic weapons from the time periods also. My personal favorites were the BAR gun, M1, and last but not least the M1919A4! Just check it out if your around well worth it!
Wade Wright
Nice museum. Takes about two hours to go though. A lot more inside than you would think. Lots of display cases showing the history of the building and the area. The air conditioning works very well inside so it's a great place to cool off after a hot afternoon.
Gregory Johnson
A must for us, having a son in the Army. Free admission, but please donate something during your visit. Many historic displays. The museum is actually in a concrete bunker used to house huge battery guns. Two floors, and a nice gift shop.Ft Derussy next door with a beach . The hotel is a military R&R.
Meep Ramsay (Otan Empire)
It's a neat place. The museum is actually in an old fort with coastal cannons on it. It does a good job at explaining history of island and especially WW2. They have some cool tanks and cannons outside although they named the Japanese tank "Japanese light tank" rather than its actual name. It's free though : )
Michael Hernandez
This museum was really informative. There was so much to see and read. Lots of artifacts, weapons and displays. The Cobra helicopter was especially cool to see up close. There is a very good area dedicated to the former Army Chief of Staff General Shinseki from Hawaii. It is free to the public. There is a nice little gift shop at the end.
cloudia charters
Small place. Very easy to take in in one visit. Some cool equipment and displays. This was a significant gun in placement in world war II and before. Look for the Japanese world war II era tank, and the Sherman as well as a howitzer out front. Takes some time to look at the Hawaiian Tiki or Ki'i in front. They are dedicated to generations of Hawaiian warriors, including US military veterans. Nice to see what an authentic tiki looks like!
Stacy Lee Ferguson
An absolutely great museum, and it is FREE!. There are several donation boxes and if you go please donate. There are not too many places like this. Clean and nice, well presented historical artifacts & items throughout. Great for the history fan or military enthusiasts. Weapons from mainly WW2, Korea and Vietnam. They even have a cobra on the 2nd floor/roof. Multiple a more vehicles and cannons out front. Set right next to the ocean this place is a real gem. I beleive most people walk by and don't even know it is there. I would highly recommend you stop in and check it out. Lots of fun, and don't forget to donate!
Derek Bowen
It's a free museum of Hawaiian military history dating from when Hawaii was first discovered by the British thru the Vietnam War. It's a small museum so each phase of Hawaiian military history is rather limited. The building is air conditioned so it's a nice place to get out of the sun for an hour. It's worth going to kill an hour but not engaging enough to warrant a second visit.
Lucieni A. da Gama Saldanha
Really liked the museum, it was a finding. I did not see this place to visit, I was passing by when I found it. It is free and they have a gift shop and restrooms inside. I loved how they have the history and importance of the Hawaii displayed in this museum. Get the $5 dollars audio by the gift shop and have history class in this museum!
S M
It is free to go inside. Kids will have fun looking at the WW2 artillery. There is a helicopter on the rooftop you can take pictures with- of course you can't climb inside.. People, instinctively, quiet down when they walk in, pictures of veterans line the walls. I don't think I met one person that worked there while we walked through the tiny museum. Outside, it's fun to take pictures with the tank. It's right next to a park.
Jeff Twitchell
Very low key. Well organized. Quality displays and good signage explaining things. Easy self paced tour.
Symira Milton
I learned quite a bit of history. Lots of interesting facts about Pearl Harbor, WWII and the Vietnam War. They had lots of original artifacts from that time and it was Free to get in!
Meredith Nye
Very cool museum to pass a rainy or cold day in Waikiki. We were staying near this museum and knew our son would love it. He is 4, so we were able to stay for about 1 hour and hold his interest. Expect it to take longer if reading and participating in everything, maybe 2-2.5! All signs are are easy to read. It was free for us, but we are military so I am not sure if there are entrance fees. The military history of Hawaii and Pacific region is something everyone should learn a bit about. Highly interesting and wonderful museum. Wheelchair and Stroller friendly!
Colin Arp
For free, you can't really beat this if you are into military museums. I enjoyed it more than Pearl Harbor this year. With all the Covid restrictions, this was just a much more enjoyable experience this year and I would come back for a third or fourth time.
Patrick Cabeza De Baca
Interesting museum goes into the history of pre colonial Hawaii , Hawaii after annexation by the USA, and the Army's involvement in Hawaii s history and defense and the evolution of the Army up to WW2 and Korean War times.Lot of gun exhibit s different weapons for different era's, don't forget there's a second floor with a memorial to Hawaii s fallen heroes.
Bryan Rabilas
Military museum, small but nice. Learn about Hawaii military since Kingdom, WW1 & 2, Korean, and Vietnam. Best of all, it is FREE.
Ashley Weyers
Free entrance, shop has some great memorabilia. 1 - 2 hours depending on how much detail you look at. Interesting history of the defenses of Hawaii.
Natalie Ana Borkoski Parker
Very worth a visit. It doesn't take long to go through, even if you stop and read everything. It's very cool to see both the Japanese side and the american side of things. Dont forget to go up to the second floor! There's a cute little gift shop too
Sam
Took some time to learn about the history of military establishment in Hawaii. Great veteran as a guide who knows all sorts of things. Many to see.
Chris Howard
Great museum. Staff very friendly. The museum director did an excellent job providing us with the history of Hawaii and the Army's presence from the days of the monarch to the present.
chriscrilly
Fun place to walk to if you have kids. It is across the street from the Trump Tower and has some tanks and other artillery stuff outside that you can get some great pictures with.
Joseph Ting jr
It's closed now for renovations but there's this other little informational office upstairs with a few exhibits. And on the outside second floor there's a AH 1S cobra gunship on display. Awe yeah, at the entrance there's a Japanese ww2 tank and a ww2 US tank on display. Aloha
Igor Lashkov
Well kept army museum with many details and nice exhibits. Not a big one, but a few visiting people, and free admission
Maira M
It was a really good experience, learned so much. So much history and stuff to see in there. No entry fee but feel free to donate.
Mark LoGiurato
Poorly curated museum without any flow. It's as though they put together a number of artifacts without a plan or a story.
Emma Ladwig
Great experience! Wonderful facility, friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit. Plan to spend 2 hours or so and don't miss the second floor!
Christina Walton
Free admission and fascinating military (mostly US Army) history of Oahu. Amazing location.
Bradley Patten
Free entry (donation boxes available, did donate but never felt any pressure to do so), friendly and helpful staff at the front, and quality exhibits. We ended up going twice! If you are nearby (i.e. walking distance) definitely stop by.
J Z
Great płace, must go when you visiting from abroad. Audio tour is very complex and explains everything in detail.
Planet Airlines
Whilst in Waikiki you will see this big building looking like a bunker, the museum is actually housed inside Battery Randolph, a former coastal artillery battery. The museum's collection contains some World War II armour pieces, an AH-1 Cobra helicopter, and small arms indoors, as well as the battery itself. Museum exhibits cover the military history of pre-Imperial Hawaii and the post-annexation history of US Army warfare in the Pacific hemisphere including World War II, Vietnam, and Korea. The best thing about it that admission is free. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday. It is located adjacent to the Hale Koa Hotel.
Michelle Watson
Free museum so would have loved to look around. Sadly closed Sunday & Monday. Was able to look at the Tanks outside
Scott Jones
Absolutely wonderful gem. Highly recommended with great historic Hawaii information.
Tommy
Great museum, free entry. We just walked in and spent an hour looking at history. Museum is literally in an old base, and is nicely air conditioned. This place is a great place to learn about the history of this island. This place was actually supposed to be destroyed but was too strong for the wrecker. I wonder if the city will destroy the base in the future to build another resort, as it is in a perfect location for one.
Aaron Burros
Very detailed visually as well as audibly. Take your time.
Larry Wong
I love visiting the gift ship when I'm in town.
Mako
This is my favorite museum in Hawaii. It has a lot of very cool artifacts. It has exhibits for many different time periods.
Jennifer Cassidy
Very bummed this was closed when we weee visiting in March. We were able to snap some vehicle pics outside though!
Pearl Drew
We were present for the Pearl Harbor Day commemoration ceremony honoring our military.
Nick Kisel
A great place to learn about Hawaii's role in World War II, the Korean war, and the Vietnam war.
Anthony Mori
Excellent place to understand the history of the military on Waikiki.
The people working there are excellent without being too much.
The museum is respectful of perspective as well as those who served. History was truthful without overly flag waving. Those who served need respecting by all means. However there is more to the place than just military. This was told.
I saw history buffs like myself as well as families with small children.
The area explaining the contributions of the Japanese Americans was especially well done. My father’s family is of Japanese heritage so I’ve been steeped in the sacrifice and courage. I believe it as well as other displays were well balanced and respectful.
The Army Corps of engineers display upstairs was enlightening. This group of folks is often ignored. Their contribution to American society is undervalued.
Ruth Dennis
Been here many times my husband was Oldguard till he passed in October 2021.
Vince Jackson
Interesting museum on the site of a coastal battery.
Todd Hooper
The exhibits in this museum are great, and the museum shop has a good selection of books and souvenirs. It’s well worth a visit if you are in Waikiki.
Joshua LaVire
Nice museum and lots to do in the area
Johnny Abreu
They have a good standard of machinary, guns, maps, history charts, only in english, no coffee or deli inside, no other language options for visitors.
Surly Badger
Fantastic museum set in historical oceanside artillery emplacement
Le France
A must visit.. a lot of reading.. couple of videos to sit and watch.
Matthew L
Great little museum inside of a former coastal gun emplacement.
P B
Really cool place and great history.
Jessica A.
Awesome well kept museum with lots of information on WW2. I'm glad we didn't just walk by this gem. My son is 8 years old and was fascinated by everything. Staff there was nice especially the lady working the second floor.
george logiax
clean, friendly people is a dream to live there can be paradise on earth ...
Bente Christina
Very informative and detailed. Very friendly personnel, felt very welcomed. It's a really great museum. Mahalo for having me.
Susan Jordan
Lots of military history and well documented stories. Walking distance from hotel. Free entry
Gary
Nicely laid out museum. Volunteers are very helpful.
Melisa Zoboroski
Very informative. Learned some interesting facts.
Kevin Smith
Amazing! The building that won the building-vs-wrecking-ball contest alone, let alone the collection it contains. Do it; you won't be disappointed. The only question is: will you breeze through or spend hours?
INBUM CHUN
Could not get in but I know it's a great place.
Candace Tenholder
First off, this place is free to visit which of course is a huge plus when on vacation or even living on the island. The people working here are over the top friendly. There is so much history to see and read about, I would reccomend spending a good hour at least. The grounds are also gorgeous to walk around and view. Highly recommend this as a place to visit when coming to the island. There is also a beach behind the building to put your feet in and enjoy the view
Please give me a "like"!
Bruce P
this is part of the Army Fort DeRussy museum. Right across the street from the Trump Hotel.
Darien Chaffart
Very quaint and informative museum that covers the basic history of the Hawaiian islands, the Vietnam war & the Korean war and quite a bit of info of the Pacific theatre in ww2. Was a very cool experience, made all the better by the fact that this place is completely free! Well worth a visit if you like history
Tim
Great place to go and read up on information of Hawaii's involvement in WW2, and it's absolutely free! It's got so much packed into such a small building. There's everything from artillery, uniforms, tanks, and there’s even a helicopter on display. Great for taking the family, or just visiting alone. Totally worth checking out if you have the chance!
Scott Cusack
I came with my 11 and 16 year old boys. They were fascinated by so many of the details from the construction of the fort to the guns to the stories of the Pearl Harbor attack. We spent over an hour in there and could have spent more if not for another activity we had to go to. Its displays do well at conveying the history while also building respect for those who served.
Thomas Barry
Extremely interesting history lesson it's a 2-hour towel together myself tour is upstairs in the downstairs and just walking around reading about the history what you thought you knew and what you actually learned is amazing well worth the effort short walk from local hotels
Marc McGuire
It's not really that big but is a neat little place to visit especially if you're walking around Waikiki
Wallace Chow
A rather nondescript but surprisingly well done museum. It is a converted Naval gun bunker and just this conversion alone makes it an interesting visit. Admission is free and there are plenty of exhibits of the local Hawaiian history especially of the local Japanese population's contributions. Well worth seeing especially with the price!
Amanda Lee
Free admission two-story museum right next to Fort DeRussy Beach.
Lots of cool exhibits to take pictures of and a bunch of information to read up on. Pretty stained glass window on the second floor. Has a gift shop on the first floor. A nice place to visit!
Yamato_239
Free museum and lots of history about the U.S and some Japanese army and the old fort
William Petz
FREE - let's start there. If your in the area it's worth the walk in. The beaches are great, but you can appreciate it more by understanding the history behind it. I wouldn't make the trip unless you are into history and armies.
It will take about 45min if you casually browse and read some facts. It's much bigger then I thought it was going to be.
Really interesting facts, images and replicas with the history of he US army in Hawaii.
When I went there was no one there to talk to, so some of my questions are now unanswered, like what is an Army bond.... (I guess I'll use Google)
Darryl Carson
A great free museum experience mostly featuring the rich history of WWII and the contributions of Hawaiians to the war effort, but also telling the story of other wars as well. There are plenty of war artifacts and stories such as the career of Gen. Eric Shinseki, a Hawaiian native, who rose to become the US Army Chief of Staff. The displays are well done and the volunteer staff was friendly and knowledge.
Ned Davis
What a magnificent museum located right inside the Battery Randolph (1911). Very well maintained, informative displays and interesting history of military on Hawaii.
M V
Visiting couple times, I like it nice dispositions of different military branches and American military history. Next door they have US Corp of engineering disposition also with history whatever they're did on Hawaii to improve ecosystem.
Lorna Siever
Heard a lot about Pearl Harbor but this museum was top notch. We spent 2 full afternoons and I could have enjoyed more time. Lots to read and think about. On beach, near restaurants and huge, beautiful park! Put on bucket list if interested in Hawaii's role in history.
Josh Yarbrough
Nice place with friendly staff. The volunteers can stamp visitor's parking passes from adjacent Hale Koa lot for 50% off parking. Lot of great history not only of the Army, but also Hawaiian history and service to our Nation. The USACE exhibit upstairs is also great and highlights Corps of Engineers efforts throughout Hawaii and the Pacific.
James Cameron
Very interesting place to visit if you have an interest in US military history. Fabulous exhibits, very well maintained. Worth taking at least two to three hours to have a good look - even longer of you have the time. The gift shop sells some unique items that you won't find anywhere else in Hawaii.
Stefan Wehrle
(Remember that the whole museum is free!)
While it is rather small compared to the whole Pearl Harbor area, it didn't feel like a constraint and they used the space well. They covered the history of the fort, as well as the history of the Hawaiian Army. I liked that the view provided was more historically correct (and honest) than in Pearl Harbor. While you're there you could take a look into the small exhibition of the Army engineers on the 2nd floor. As the museum is rather unknown, the prices in the museum store are very good. It may be adequate to leave a donation, as the museum has free admission.
Martin -
Really appreciate it. Free entrance and my four year old had a great time too.
Bob Herforth
I stayed at the out rigger like a block away and this was definitely a cool place to check out just like diamond Head. I So miss the islands!!! Probably Maui a little more than Oahu though not saying Honolulu isn't fun but Maui's more chill laid back!!
R Bran
Great history. Learned a lot and appreciate the lessons on this true historic building that was a working garrison and eventually respite for the military hard working soldiers and families. No cost, and learned a little pearl harbor as well as local Hawaiian military history. Worth the visit.
Trevor Adams
We stopped by here waiting for our hotel room to be ready and were very pleasantly surprised by the experience. There is quite a lot of history here, and it's presented in many different mediums, from artifacts, paintings, models, writing and audio. And of course they have a helicopter and some tanks for those less historically interested.
royalsamurai1
We visited this museum on several occasions during our numerous stays at our resort (Hilton Hawaiian Village). We actually never knew or heard about this place until we decided to take a walk to downtown Waikiki and walked to this place. Although there is parking across the street from this museum, for us, this wasn't an issue because we either "hoofed it" or took "The Bus," everywhere we went on this island!
The first thing we noticed was the "helicopter (AH-1 Cobra)" that was sitting on top of the building and on display. On our visit, it was hot outside and entering the building to get out from the heat was refreshing. The best part was that the admission was "free."
We absorbed ourselves with the museum's collection of military artifacts, medals, and equipment used by soldiers of that era.
I enjoyed reading about Hawaii's King Kamehameha who as the story goes in the 1700s and early 1800s united the seven Hawaiian Islands under a single rule.
I think my family learned a lot from this visit and the historical value it played during the war in the pacific. In the end, we toured the small gift shop and browsed the many items for sale such as military memorabilia, clothing, and various military unit insignias. We continued our walk towards Waikiki!
Gary Eckstein
Well worth visiting. Very conveniently located right near the beach. Entry is free which is incredible for such an awesome museum.
The content ranges from centuries back through the second world war, the Vietnam war to current conflicts.
The content is focused on the Army and Hawaii and includes profiles of Hawaiians that served in the military.
Tim Riener
I might not want to give this place the full five stars rating, but it's definitely well above a 4 so I went with the five star. It's a good tour through the history of the military in the Pacific and in Hawaii in particular. Be sure you spare enough time to adequately go through everything. Probably takes at least 2 hours, maybe even three hours.
CarrellR Killebrew
What a great way to spend an hour plus (I wish I had more time than the 90 minutes I did). The museum provides a crisp focused review of Hawaii's military history with emphasis on WWII and the 25th Infantry Division. Since I was running out of time, I had to cut short a couple of exhibits near the end, and didn't get to see some of the vehicles & aircraft outside. If you're visiting any of the hotels in this area of Honolulu this is definitely a must-see. Parking was easy to find mid-afternoon and mid-week.
Cory Slykerman
My son is really interested in military history - we stumbled on this place by chance- right beside Waikiki beach. A real gem. Such a good museum that I found myself interested. My son chose it as the best experience of our 8 days in Hawaii!
Vladimir Chernik
Great place to visit and learn. BTW, no admission cost, donations welcome. They have a nice small store with unique items and Lego compatible sets.
KB Mendoza
Nice way to learn and have fun!
Jacqueline Southall
A definite place to visit. For all ages. The gift shop has excellent souvenirs.
Robert H
Very interesting and informative. Depending on how much one enjoys history, this museum could perhaps keep one entertained for 5 hours. 2 hours was not enough time for me. Best of all, this museum is FREE.
Zack Adams
This place is phenomenal, free admission and excellent displays. The whole museum use to be a military fort used to defend the island back in the olden time with giant cannons (there for you to see). As a bonus, it's right on the beach, did I mention it was free?
R. Lee Donaldson
The U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii is housed inside Battery Randolph, a former coastal artillery battery, located at Fort DeRussy Military Reservation. The museum's collection contains some World War II armor pieces, an AH-1 Cobra helicopter, and small arms indoors, as well as the battery itself. The battery's main guns were scrapped prior to the inception of the museum.
Museum exhibits cover the military history of early Hawaii and the post-annexation history of US Army warfare in the Pacific hemisphere including World War II, Vietnam, and Korea. The museum also includes a "Gallery of Heroes" honoring recipients of the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross.
The admission is free, but check their hours of operation prior to attempting to visit. This is a great activity to do if weather is bad and you can't go to the beach. Great for all ages and is easy to navigate if you have walking issues.
A. Marv
The exhibits are very informative and educational. Volunteers are friendly and helpful. Glad to learn more about the history of military presence in Hawaii. Thank you.
Daisy
It was a great museum full of history. Lots of dioramas and displays with some videos mixed in. The A/C works well. Be sure to go to the top floor. Donations only - which is great so anyone can visit.
Cailey Cogburn
A very cool museum displaying the advancement made in American bases in Hawaii, the events and aftermath of Pearl Harbor, the amazing Japanese decoder unit without them we would have had a longer bloodier war, and last but not least the "dissapearing rifles" on each side of the fort!! They are massive and a beautiful piece of technology!!
Rod C.
Must see! Excellent and informative displays. Great eye opener regarding the historic and military role of Hawaii and the impact it had to the islands. Check it out. Admission is free!
wayne buckland
Free to get in but parking is very expensive though you can get some money off at the museum. Good informative museum without being brilliant
Alli Barlow
I'm not immensely interested in military/war topics, but it was a cool museum. Seeing the missiles and guns, and the handheld guns and traditional Hawaiian weapons was great. I learnt a lot about American-Japanese relationships, all the wars Hawaii has been directly involved in. My favourite part was about Eric K. Shinseko (might be spelling that wrong) about his progression from a soldier to a general and his time in the army - very thought provoking! The second floor showcasing Hawaiian citizens awarded military medals was also very sad, but very rewarding.
Karen Mastantuono
We rented the headsets and the narrations were very informative. The museum is a great place to learn many historical facts.
Dennis Garrett
This place had more than I expected. Some great, enlightening stories about local hero's that I really appreciated. Be sure and visit the 2nd floor and read about some of the sacrifices that local Distinguished Service Cross recipients made. Lots of information available if you make the time to read about it.
Ed Lewis
Great little museum on the beach. The first section changes and I prefer when the leave local history vice Vietnam but understand the desire to keep it fresh. Only downside is the 7in gun on top is completely out of place. Totally the wrong mount.
Ong SC
This army museum used to be a Fort used to defend the coastal. It was equipped with 2 12inch ingeniously designed 'disappearing gun' which hides after firing a shot/during reloading of gunpowder and projectile. Free admission. Recommended if you are into military stuff. Read some stories about the decorated soldiers on 2nd floor. There is also a cobra attack helicopter in exhibit on 2nd floor. Due to the well built structure, the demolition was abandoned and it was redeveloped into a museum.
Gregg Fajardo
I Liked This Awesome Museum & Definitely Recommend This Place. Yeah They Have Great Displays & A Nice Gift Shop.
D Farhey
This is a very interesting museum to visit for about an hour or more. The entrance is totally free. There is a donation box in the lobby. Also, there is a nice gift shop.
Trevor Wells
Small museum in size but laid out well in old US Army Coastal Defence Battery. A little bit light on history but America is not that old.
It does give a good insight in to the history of the Hawaiian Islands and the people.
Dejan Kulpinski
Great gun battery turned war museum right on the Waikiki beach. And it's free. Mostly focused on WW2. Couple of tanks outside and a cobra chopper upstairs. Lots of small arms and ww2 gear.
Nathan Jirka
For all you young parents out their: THIS IS FREE. Kids can look at the tanks out front, the helicopter and big guns on the roof, inside is pretty cool from the slab concrete. Display are interesting and I learned a little!
Bob Lee
A museum with a strong emphasis on the Japanese American and Hawaiian experience with war. There's a quiet, reflective section on the second floor for Distinguished Service Cross recipients.
Thank you to Warren Barshes for his time at the front desk and offering to share his Vietnam experience.
Cindy Parra
I really enjoyed myself and learning so much! Lot of emotions ran thru me. I did buy items from the store to come home and find out they are made in China. Couldn't you find a place in the USA. That disappointed me. Overall I would recommend!
Andrew Walters
Very cool FREE museum about Hawaii’s history with the US military as well as Hawaiians who were in the military. Crazy thick walls which explains why the structure is still there of course.
Chad H (xlr231)
Had lots of interesting information. Didn't make it up to the 2nd floor. Their lighting wasn't great. When standing in front of the exhibit reading it looking at them you cast shadows on the exhibits.
stacy smith
Fans of Hawaii military history a must. Gift shop has some interesting items. Good use of a former key facility. The retracting defense system was an engineering marvel for its time.
Maid Your Way
Free admission, very nice exhibits. You can learn a lot about military presence in Hawaii:)))
Kevin Bentz
Great museum to walk through and learn about the Army in Hawaii. Lots of neat exhibits. Good for the entire family.
Jerid Rathore
Was closed when i went...march 10, 2019 was a Sunday. I should've known better! The exhibits outside were cool enough to warrant 3 stars
Cathy Kadooka
Easy to get to if you van find parking. Lots of room, but can het crowded on weekends. Water is pretty clean considering its waikiki and lots of cool stuff nearby you can rent such as paddleboards etc.
Glen Leffingwell Yz250
I thought it was great it's a cool place it's free off charge you can donate to it witch everyone should .They also have a souvenir store.I would recommend stopping there.# localguide
Igor Polishchuk
I only saw the outside exposition. These are some curious pieces there, though they don't look very well maintained.
Mike Holubar
Thorough exhibits in an interesting space of a former coastal battery, but they close at 4:15! Very disappointed not to be able to finish. Watch out! They close the gift shop even earlier!
James T
The uniforms are cool. Hawaiian chief head set was beautiful. Omg clean bathroom. Worth going
Tracy Bass
Free admission awesome Ft DeRussy Army museum just remember you are on government property open to the public
Donald Price
Great historical place to visit and free entry!
Luke Dixon
Nice museum to visit, great park area, and a cool little beach behind it too! You need to grab a bite at the local eatery Shack behind it...
david
Such a great museum, you gotta see it, fantastic history!!!!
Anne Meinhart
Free entry, nice and informative displays, GREAT A/C during these hot summer months!!! Cool to see how this building was actually a post during WWII.
Lancelot Bennett
Interesting miltary museum housed in pre WW1 Battery Randolf.Tbe guns were removed but the reenforced concrete was too well built to demolish after WW2. Lots of information on Japanese Hawaian contributions to the US war effort. Located at the west end of the Waikiki strip. Free addmisson!
The Seventies Castaneda
Very nice museum
Frances Seibel
My Father was in the 25th Division. Wonderful museum to visit. Great location. Easy access. Nice little shop attached to museum.
MKR LABz
A nice walk around and learn more about the Hawaii history.
Linda Burrier
This was a very interesting place to visit. The information about WWII was incredible. Better than any history book. Free admission.
tiffany Coy
Very good, not much on Vietnam but still very good
Tamera Guilinger

I stayed at Trump Tower, so I went there when I had free time because it was close.
When I went inside, a very kind receptionist asked me, "Japanese?"
There is no entrance fee, but there is a box to put chips in, and I put in chips as much as I feel like.
The inside is only in English and I don't understand it at all.
But when I went to the attack on Pearl Harbor at the outbreak of World War II, I, a Japanese person, felt embarrassed.
(Personally, my uncle and cousin's husbands were American soldiers, so I'm interested.)
It's close to Waikiki, so if you have time, I think you should go there.

Tanks from World War II are on display. A building that uses the ruins of a gun battery from the war. It is free to enter and it is very helpful to know the history. 2020.2.20
横浜のおじさん
The exhibition has reopened in February 2023. It is said that a gun battery was set up to protect ships attacking Pearl Harbor in pairs with Diamond Head, and this museum is the site of that. I was thrilled to have so many 8-inch shell dummies. smile
池田備前守
The interior of the former coastal battery remains is now the US Army Museum. Walk down Saratoga Ave towards the beach and you will see it on your right hand side.
It looks plain, so be careful not to go too far to the beach. Cannons and tanks are displayed in the front, both belonging to the Japanese and American forces. Both tanks are light tanks, but the US tanks are huge❗The Japanese guns and tanks are painted in a strange faded camouflage. Admission is free, but please put some of your wishes in the donation box inside the museum. As soon as you enter the hall, there is a gift shop that sells various military products. By the way, the inside of the hall is a former coastal battery fortress, and it is made of quite thick concrete, and there used to be two cannons on the second floor. The history, weapons, and equipment of the US Army are on display, and you can see the military spirit from the genesis of the military to the Vietnam War and the present day. A corner of the attack on Pearl Harbor and many materials of the Japanese army are also exhibited, and although it is small, it is worth seeing.
Eri
It seems that the entrance fee is covered by donations, so it seems that it will be helpful if you put your heart into it.
I would like you to visit us to learn about history.
Hirohiko Yoshida
Free admission to the Army Museum.
You can learn about the history of the army and the history of Hawaii, mainly from World War II, up to the Korean War and the Vietnam War, using an actual battery (although it is a concrete fortress) that was actually used.
There are also many displays of military equipment such as tanks and attack helicopters.
Catherin Merchan
It is good to know the history and more when you have sites that show elements that are part of it in an organized and very explicit way, it is very good to visit it I recommend it to 💯👍
半炒飯
Except for the leaflet explaining the museum at the entrance, it is basically written in English, but there are many exhibits and you can understand what they are saying.
At the front, M24 and Type 95 tanks are displayed for comparison.
For the repair and protection of the exhibits, please donate even a little when you visit.
tak k
I've passed by many times but never went in. This is the first time I've been inside, but it's very spacious and there are plenty of exhibits. If you pass by, please be brave and step in. Absolutely recommended!
高室直樹
The history of Hawaii from the old battles to World War II was displayed in detail.
Admission is free, but donations are optional.
When I visited, there was an old man of Japanese ancestry at the reception. He belonged to the 442nd Regiment of the Nisei Regiment, which is famous for having received the most medals in the history of the American military. did.
There is also a real tank and a helicopter on the second floor, which is impressive. It's close to the center of Waikiki and worth a visit.
長田美知子(beatles好きのミッチー)
free entrance
Tuesday-Saturday 9:00-16:15
Photographs of Emperor Meiji and atomic bombs were exhibited.
Even now, people are repeatedly engaged in useless wars, but I would like the United Nations to think about how to maintain world peace so that humankind does not fight useless things.
w a
Holidays in the United States are closed, and you can sleep on substitute holidays
I can't let my guard down. It might be a good idea to check the opening days in advance.
However, it's not useless because you can see the tanks on display outside even if you're on vacation.
kei k
I brought my 6-year-old son with me without thinking about it, but the exhibition structure is quite thought-provoking.
A historical fact that we who do not know war should know.
kazupyon (かずぴょん)
A free but very interesting museum. Register at the entrance. Enter your name, number of people, country and city (prefecture). Exhibits other than the attack on Pearl Harbor are also very substantial.

This is the US Army Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii. I was impressed, and the guide said that he had previously lived in Dongbu Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and even greeted me in Korean.
3 nekochu
It was very impressive. There are blueprints of how Diamond Head was formed as a base, and an actual fighter helicopter from the past.
桑原卓三
If you want to buy rare souvenirs, this is the place.
ES
If you can't go to Pearl Harbor, you should see it here alone! It's free and worth it.
的場晴斗
Hawaii that I couldn't go to with the new corona. i went 8 times and walked around the hawaiian islands. When I entered here and made a donation, the lady at the facility flew over and was very impressed. I wonder if it's rare for Japanese people to enter and donate. Even if we speak different languages and look different, we can communicate with each other.
マイク・ベイガー
I was overwhelmed by the number of U.S. Army weapons and items captured by the former Japanese army on display, but I also learned about the work of the U.S. military in various regions, from the history of Hawaii to the Vietnam War, and the Japanese Americans during the Pacific War. I was able to learn about the struggle of the unit based on abundant materials. There was no entry fee, but there was a ledger to fill in your name and rough address. The atmosphere of the old man who was at the reception and the atmosphere of the shop were also very good.
Hoho Ha (Oi)
It is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and admission is free, so it is good to stop by.
Closed on Monday and Sunday.

It is a spot that Japanese people do not go first.
Exhibits are substantial at the museum that uses the remains of the gun battery along Waikiki Beach as it is.
free entrance. Souvenirs are also available.
Ok “ZO” Mkt
Admission is free, but there is an optional donation box (maintenance fees, expenses, etc.) at the entrance.
The entrance receptionist will talk to you and give you an information desk with each language written.
Although I am not a war veteran, it is a museum with a unique atmosphere and solemn feeling.
It is spectacular and takes an hour even if you look lightly.
This is also a place where you can feel Hawaii (USA).
by all means on any occasion
啓一渡邊

高野恵多
Admission is free, and it was a deeply moving place to learn about the activities of Japanese Americans in Hawaii.

It's fun just to look outside
ぶらり家族旅
The museum is free to enter. There are two real tanks.
You can choose pamphlets in Japanese, Chinese, and English at the reception. I did the fundraising properly 😃
There was no tragedy of war, and most of the exhibits were photographs of the people of that era and the historical background.
I thought that I could learn more about the attack on Pearl Harbor, but it might be too heavy for Waikiki Beach right next to it.
張奉仁
I want to enter once because it is free to enter. Although it might be a little boring for those who are not interested in weapons and armies. However, while there is an aspect of Hawaii as a resort, I think it will be a valuable experience to get a glimpse of the United States, which values the military.
森健二(ニカちゃん)
I went on my honeymoon 32 years ago.

田治健生
I could only see it from the outside, but I would like to go inside someday.
agobay揣摩憶測
We walked from the Sheraton Hotel. Is there a museum like this near Waikiki?
The building has two floors, but the basic exhibition is on the first floor, and there is an attack helicopter exhibition on the roof.
Since it is an army museum, the basic exhibition was also an exhibition that follows the history of firearms.
As with Pearl Harbor, Japan is a former enemy country from the American point of view. When I went to the museum, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being treated as an enemy, and I had mixed feelings.
岡橋ななこ
I have studied history.

A hidden gem in Waikiki. Exhibits such as weapons, tanks and interceptors are especially popular with the male crowd. For those interested in history.
Admission time Tue-Sat 10:00-16:15 (Closed at 17:00)
Closed Sundays and Mondays (confirmation required for holidays)
Japanese Impossible
Free of charge (donations welcome)
The exhibits are surprisingly wide-ranging, not only for the US Army, but also for weapons and canoes used in ancient Hawaii. There are many panel photographs and other materials, and you can learn the history of the war that took place in Hawaii and the war that the US Army was involved in. The exhibits of the weapons of the Japanese army during World War II and the relics of Japanese soldiers who are thought to have been brought back as booty by the American army are heavy, but they make you reconsider war and peace. The tanks and interceptors lined up outside the museum are also popular with passing tourists.
猫猫猫
A lot of things you don't see very often.
Admission is free and you enter after writing your name, nationality and number of people in the group at the entrance.
Materials of the war, items used by the Japanese army, records of Nikkei soldiers, etc. The panel is only in English, so I think it would be good to bring a translation app or use the Japanese audio guide at the entrance for a fee.
Carbo Kuo (BYVoid)
The fort on the beach was built at the end of the nineteenth century and is dominated by two cannons. Now it is a military museum, which introduces the situation of Hawaii in the previous wars of the United States.
Daisuke Endo
It's an American army museum, but it's worth going because Japanese people are also featured. You can see the exhibition of military goods at that time, which is hard to see even in Japan. You can get off at the post office or Trump Hotel by JCB bus and walk.
Tsubasa Mikumari
The focus is not only on Hawaii's history, but also on the wars in which the United States was involved.
I'm not very good at English, but it was a visually enjoyable place with real guns and models on display.
Japanese rifles are also on display.
There is also a souvenir shop. There were many ammunition key chains, hats, and models. When you take the ammunition key chain home, it seems that you can stop it if you do not put it in the trunk (lol)
Luc Wiel
Great historical interest to visit the fort where the museum is located, in Waikiki for that matter.
Evocation of Pearl Harbor, but not only, reading between the lines we understand how the US took over the archipelago of the Hawaiian Islands in a typically Anglo-Saxon way.
一粒沙
This is a great place to learn about Hawaii and the modern military. Here, you will see many things that cannot be seen on the mainland. I hope you will come and visit here, as well as other museums and monuments on Oahu.
Masa K
If you want to see historical materials about the battle without going to Pearl Harbor, go here. Admission was free. It is cool.
Devon Nites (smilecruiser)
issei Kawamoto
The museum happened to be next to the hotel, but it's worth seeing.
I was surprised to see a comparison of Japanese and American weapons during World War II.
THI YEN CAM
Here you can watch a documentary film, you can better understand the history of Pearl Harbor. To visit.
