Reviews of Grand Rapids Public Museum
Abeer H.
Very beautiful museum with interesting topics. i truly enjoyed my visit. It’s a 3 floors building so make sure you have enough time to check out all of it. I spent like 4 hours. Entrance ticket is 12$ for adults. Maybe it’ll be less if u live in the area but I don’t.
Maggie Jean Clark
Had a wonderful visit up until the end when museum staff singled out our family to keep reminding us it was closing time. Several other families continued farther into the museum while she followed us and anytime we stopped to glance at an exhibit she would remind us how long we had until closing time. The planetarium Pink Floyd light show was very cool. However, we are planning another visit and hopefully will not run into same staff.
Kari Van Lanen
Wish I would have taken mare pictures! This is definitely a stop if you are anywhere in the area. We drove over from our vacation in Holland and so glad we did. The whole family enjoyed it and the carousel was so pretty. Especially loved the old town area, retro games, and fashion exhibit
Sam G
The public museum is a great place for families to go and learn but have fun at the same time! The exhibits are great and educational, the workers are nice, they even complimented me on my shirt, and it has an overall nice atmosphere! I recommend!
Alex Hughes
Rather nice public museum, was able to get in for free with a Mastercard special they were running. Probably more of a wonder-filled experience for the youth population, but still interesting for all ages. Contains a lot of memorabilia and nostalgia for the older population. Worth a stop if you are visiting Grand Rapids.

While in Grand Rapids for a short weekend adventure, we stopped to checkout the Museum. We were greeted as we walked through the door, bought our tickets, then the exploration began. 3 levels of exhibits from rocks and fossils, the natives who lived where the city was built, a steam engine, an airplane, 1900's carousel you can ride on, also an old town Grand Rapids to walk through. A café on the second floor with coffee and a spot to chill out and watch the Grand River while drinking or eating as they do also have food. My advice is to go to the museum explore learn and have fun!

The Grand Rapids Public Museum is great! Interactive and educational, Michigan-centric. Great views of the river and downtown Grand Rapids. Space capsule and other outdoor exhibits too.
You do not need to pay museum entry to visit the gift shop or explore the grounds.
Don't forget the carousel (reminder: you have to reserve a time so don't be disappointed just walking up).
Geoff Bendall
Parking ramp right across street. Clean museum with many exhibits. Many are static and have been here since our last visit a few years ago. There are featured ones that are new each year. All are very well done and interesting for all ages. Staff friendly.
Candy Stallcup
So much to see! If you like to look at everything, allow a good 1.5 hours to walk around! Three floors filled with something for everyone including a food court and well kept bathrooms. There are elevators and its handicap accessable. They have rotating rooms and a small movie house that was near the outterspace exhibit. Parking... there's a parking garage that is near the building or you can park across the road at the other museum.
Kelly Crouch
Not too pricy for how big it is and how much you get to see! Took us about 2 hours to walk through the whole place!! The exhibits were done really well, loved the printing press in the old town walk-through!!
Gesika Cline
As a member of COSI (Center of Science and Industry) our family was able to use the reciprocal partnership which gained us free entry into the museum. Tickets to the planetarium were separate but well worth it.
My children are aged 9m and 7f and we arrived just after lunch so their bellies were full and we purchased tickets to the 2pm planetarium stargazer show for my space loving 9 year old.
We loved the Lego City of old Grand Rapids, the city fashion exhibit showing not only it's beauty but the harm it has caused on the planet, but also positive alternatives and the temporary poison exhibit. Since we visited at the end of the year, they also had Santa's from all over the world from different times.
We spent hours and the kids very much enjoyed the afternoon. Great museum. Highly recommend for poeple of all ages and would go again to see future revolving displays.
Since visited on a reciprocal partnership we made sure to stop at the cafe for some goodies to support the museum.
Sheri Monroe
Such a great museum. Parking is easy in the parking ramp and is free for Kent County residents. Kent county kids are free and it's $10 per Kent County adult which is a great deal considering how expensive it is to get into a museum anymore. We previously had a membership pre-covid and haven't been in a couple of years. We decided to visit the other day with friends from out of town and we all had such a blast! We all enjoyed ourselves, from the babies on up to us adults. Lots of great history here and the streets of Grand Rapids exhibit all decorated for Christmas is my favorite!
Yvonne Robbins-Bell
Excellent museum! Great for all ages. We visited on a Monday which was perfect because there wasn't a crowd of visitors. We could take our time at each exhibit.
Zoey Lyn
Absolutely fantastic museum. So much to see and do. Lots of interactive features and kid friendly items as well. The gift shop is cute and perfect for people who love nature themed items. 10/10 would come again!
Joshua Gardner
The Grand Rapids Public Museum is always a fun place to visit for kids and adults. The exhibits are well-curated, they find really intriguing exhibits to fill their rotating space (right now, it's all about pterosaurs!), and because there is a school on-site, sometimes you'll even see work from budding curators in the museum. The Spillman carousel is currently being restored but is always a treat for the kids to visit.
Andres Sampedro
Chaperoned my 10 year old's field trip to the museum and we had a really good time! The kids enjoyed all the exhibits particularly the new flying dinosaur exhibit! Lot's of fun time learning, touching (the things they could touch), and interacting with the exhibits. Bonus part was the surprise woodcarving top that my daughter received from the wood carving exhibit!!
Samantha McMillan
Such an amazing experience! The museum is set up so nice and it really offers a great display of various different things. The way portions of the museum are set up so realistically makes the experience that much better. They also have a little cafe with reasonable prices so you can eat while you are there. Plus the views of the city and the river are phenomenal!
Benjamin Videtich
awesome museum. I take my kids (3, 6, 8) there routinely and they love it.
good news is, I love it too!
lots of Michigan history, and much of it is specific to this particular city, GR.
it’s on the west side of the Grand River, so you get lovely views of downtown from the less-busy side of the waterway.
Nickolas Heystek
We visited the museum for a wedding reception which was hosted there. A lot of the museum was blocked off, however, my kids loved what they were able to see. They also rode the carousel multiple times. I look forward to going back when we can see the entire museum.
Neha Amble
Must visit place in Grand rapids. 3 storeys building with different sections like dinosaurs, fashion, nature, astronomy. Various shows in the planetarium during the day. Interactive games for kids. Students and senior discount available.
Bhavani Ananthan
Good place to bring kids to spend a half a day of time.. Everything in here is more informative and helps kids in learning many species, how fabric are designed and more.. they have planetarium show and carousel ride for all ages..
Dana Bravata
We went on a field trip with my son's school and this place was amazing. I love all the old antiques on the bottom floor! Staff was very helpful and the planetarium was amazing!
Lori Nicklas
Such a great experience for the grandkids. The exhibit was terrific and the planetarium was spectacular for kids being hosted by Big Bird and Elmo. Loved all the hands on activities.
Cat Fruit
It's do pretty here. I do recommend taking your kids here. Lots of interactive places. My best friend from Florida went here with me. We had a blast exploring it. Take your family here or anyone witn a young heart. Or go here with your friends!
Ashley Tuminella
This place is huge, and honestly you could make an entire day out of it. There is so much to explore, and they have new exhibits every time I go there. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and there are many things for children and adults to tinker and play with.
Jo Ceglarek
This was cool to see and share with my kids that didn’t know the history - the interactive puppet spot was tucked away, we’re thankful we spotted it as it was a hit for sure, so be sure to look around corners. It brought back great memories and shed light on just how Jim paved the way!
Candice Johnson
Had a wonderful visit up until the end when museum staff singled out our family to keep reminding us it was closing time.
Kathy W
The planetarium are my favorite part of each visit! If you have a John Ball Zoo membership you can get free general admission this month (August) and then you only pay for extras, like the pop culture exhibit and the planetarium. The pop culture exhibit is highly interactive! Great for the kids!
Manda Forshey-Allen
The village is fantastic along with the bat exhibit. It was great to see all the different Santa's and the lego downtown. Sadly, the carousel was closed.
I highly recommend.
David Cy
Cool quirky museum with lots to see and very detailed exhibits. Great for adults and kids, lots to learn and see here.
Shane Towne
Good museum and great light shows in the planetarium. I've watched 10 different shows from pink floyd to planet roller coasters, always are great. If you have issues with flashing lights or if you get motion sickness skip the planetarium.
Sophia Potter
Just as fun as an adult as I remember it being growing up! It was exciting to be able to learn new things from the exhibits I remember liking a lot as a child. Fun to be had at every age!
Lacey Keyes
1 of the best places for anyone! My family and I love coming to the new attractions n looking at all the great exhibits!
Meghan Blake
We had a ton of fun at the museum. The planetarium and the popology exhibit were both worth the extra few dollars! My kids really enjoyed the VR Experience!
Dan Hodges
This is a great, Mid-Western museum. If you ever want to learn about Grand Rapids and its history, this is the place you need to visit. The planetarium and vintage carousel are the icing on the cake.
Joanne Turner
While in Grand Rapids for a short weekend adventure, we stopped to checkout the Museum. We were greeted as we walked through the door, bought our tickets, then the exploration began.
Joshua Gatiss
Great place to spend part of the day! They have a wide range of exhibits and things to do for all ages. The staff was very helpful, ticket prices were fair— especially for Kent County residents, and they’re stroller accessible!
D Pullins
Went here during the smithsonian's day free museum experience. Very spacious and well kept museum with plenty of different exhibits from native Americans, Hispanic Americans, spaceflight, dinosaurs, and Michigan rocks, topography in general history. It is a wonderful museum to take a family, school children, and anyone else interested in a myriad of subjects. I wish I could have spent an entire day with all of that exhibits in a more intimate fashion. Speaking of fashion, there is an exhibit dedicated to fashion over the decades in America. Highly recommend you and family coming to this really well laid out museum.
Austin Hughes
Great way to spend the day while in grand rapids! Awesome for kids and adults.
Beth Miller
Good size for an afternoon. We also did one of the planetarium shows and the kids loved it! I really appreciate that most of the exhibits were in working order or if they weren't there was a note posted (we had a poor experience at a different museum in another state because nearly every exhibit was broken, so thank you!).
unsatisfied99
A pleasant surprise. The museum has several very interesting displays. There is a rotating display section so check what they have in advance of your visit.
There is also a planetarium. Again, check in advance to see exhibits and times.
On the ground floor, is a section showing a late 1800s street. Well done and worth some time to see.
Cas Eavey
Best museum in the entire world. I've been going minimum once a year every year since i was a kid (2020 excluded) the exhibits are wonderful and it's so big. Favorite part of the planetarium of course, i love the shows they put on and i can always count on it to teach me something new.
Amanda Rameau
We came to town to see the Jim Henson exhibit at the Art Museum, and were throughly disappointed. Luckily, GR Public Museum saved our day! Every member of the staff we interacted with was wonderful, super pleasant and very knowledgeable. They even have many supports in place for people with sensory issues. We didn’t even need them for my son, due to the fact the exhibits were engaging and interactive. I would highly recommend a visit to this museum. We definitely plan on returning multiple times. I cannot thank the staff enough for being fantastic people. They have many interesting exhibits and I wish we’d have had more time to spend on our adventure.
Sarah Brewer
This was the best museum! Make sure you are not in a hurry! So many things to look at and enjoy. Our young children loved it as well (years 6&8). It was an amazing experience!
Laura Strom
Great place for the kids & adults! Lots of hands on fun. Get tickets for carousel early as it sells out on the weekends.
carlie colantuono
Me and my son had a great time he's almost 5 years old. The carousels awesome it's included with tickets.
Cindy Warber
We were a family of diverse ages (7 to 72) in town for the night and looking for something casual and inexpensive to do in the afternoon. This was the perfect place for all of us to explore with exhibits and interactive stations we all enjoyed.
Sara Cushman
The exhibits are well done but I was very disappointed that the furniture exhibited was totally (except for the lathe) removed. I took 2 exchange students and wanted to show them some of what/who/how Grand Rapids was settled. The replacement exhibit, although interesting, I felt could have been in any museum. I was sorry to not be able to show our guests more of what has made Grand Rapids unique.
Peggy Sjostrom
This is a very well organized, interesting, and beautiful little city museum. There's "just enough" information to read at every exhibit. It has a pleasant carousel ride, too, which the children in our group loved.
BlackDog Restoration
Always a fun time
They have the historic carousel , Space exhibit and the giant whale skeleton on the ceiling. So much to look at What a fun time. We Also went to the cafeteria and grab some food it was good
I'd highly recommend for a first date or a family

Grand Rapids Public Museum is such a unique and fun wedding venue in Michigan. As a photographer, the museum provides unique and quirky backdrops for my portraits with the couple. If you are looking for a stunning wide open space look no further. The staff were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend this amazing Grand Rapids, Michigan wedding venue!

My daughter and I LOVE The GRPM!!
We are longtime visitors and this place is always filled with something new. Our last visit we saw the Day Of The Dead Exhibit. We enjoyed it, however, in my opinion that exhibit was a bit small, but still enjoyable. The GRPM has friendly and helpful staff, the museum is always clean around the cafeteria seating area, and is just a great place to be.
Rhonda Olenzek
This museum had it all. The exhibits were laid out perfectly.
Denise Crapse
Great place to take the family..lego exhibit is there for another month..so much to see! There's even a Planatarium! Must get tickets online before arrival...
Marc l
Very beautiful place, the bridge is right there which is a great place for taking pictures or just looking out on the water. Also a great place to go during art prize, lots of really cool stuff on that area, the museum itself is super cool the New dinasour exhibit and very interesting as well. Definitely check it out if you are in the area or looking for something to do!
Isaac
Can not recommend seeing the planetarium shows enough. They are super cheap and always a great first date idea. PSA the museum will validate your parking in the ramp if you live in Kent county.
Sarika Mehta
Great place to go! Exhibits are well executed, interesting and good for kids. The carousel was closed for maintenance when we were there. We stayed for the Incoming! Planetarium show it and it was worth it.
Mark Metz
Great day. Highlights were the poison exhibition and the planetarium movie.
Casey Parmeter
I havent been to this place in years, and I'm talking like highschool years lol. Very nice place and the exhibits are amazing. Took my daughter there and had a blast. We looked at every exhibit and spent like 5 hours there. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Maureen Shanburn
Took my daughter here on her 5th Birthday
Had a lot of fun with her, only issue was the lack of rest area. Also, the carousel is being repaired and restored so we didn't get to see it.
Zach Marsh
An absolutely wonderful time with the kids. Such awesome set-up, with lots of hands on stuff for the kids to do. I've been to other science museums that seem to have more hands on things for the kids but this seemed like a mix of science and history museum. Overall we all had a great time.
One word of advice, if you can avoid going when a school is there, you'll be glad you did. It seems as though they use it as more of a babysitter for rambunctious kids than a learning experience for them. They were all over the place. Definitely not enjoyable at least when the last school was there. Hope this helps you. You'll be done in about 2-3 hours with kids. You'll have fun here for sure though!
Tori Bazner
We went today to have some family time out and about. It wasn’t very crowded especially for a Sunday afternoon. We were able to get tickets for the Lego art exhibit, but were too late to get Planetarium tickets. I would suggest preplanning the planetarium.
The Sean Kenney lego exhibit was an add on to admission. It was very affordable at $4 for adults and seniors. (General admission pricing was $8 adults and $7 seniors) Students and children were less but I didn’t have any on my order. It was well worth it to go see something different. We did a quick walk through the exhibit but still enjoyed it. Kids in the room also seemed to enjoy it.
There are some smaller lego exhibits as well as a large city scape exhibit that are free to view elsewhere in the museum.
My favorite section is the arcade. I’m glad they kept this area after the special event they brought them in for. It’s fun for a quarter to play games like pinball, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Centipede and Asteroids. Also helps when you win the family pinball contest by a landslide!!! Mom still has skills, lol!
Don’t miss the doll room or the room with Native American history. Both rooms are kinda tucked in and can be easily missed. We also enjoy the exhibit on cultures and immigrants around Grand Rapids.
Currently the carrousel is down and gone so I am assuming being refurbished. But it’s also a do not miss when visiting.
Tyler
It's the Best museum in the city. The places offers a lot of variety and fun for all ages! Even the kids stuff (like the arcade) is fun for adults. I was surprised how much they fit into the small building. Great pieces of history are preserved here and it's perfect for the general public
Michelle Kooi
Wonderful museum, great for families and kid friendly. This is also a delightful venue to hold any type of event. I enjoy their changing exhibits and being reminded of some of their old ones. The location is great but the parking can be a bit tricky. It costs to park across the street in their parking garage. Convenient to other locations and popular spots in Grand Rapids downtown area.
Chris
We enjoyed the Grand Rapids Public Museum. The museum has a diverse array of exhibits that would surely please everyone in the family. My favorite part was the area of the museum on the first floor that makes you feel as though you have stepped back in time and entered into a town with a hardware store, grocery store, pharmacy, etc. We drove up to Grand Rapids from the South Bend area for lunch and the museum and went back home satisfied. A+ - Highly recommend!
Jaclyn Smith
Didn't realize it was a children museum, but we still found some interesting exhibits. My biggest issue was the quality of exhibits. Children are not dumb, write higher quality they can take it.
Joni Merritt
Took our grandsons - 5 & 7 - to see the Lego exhibit. We spent at least 4 hours exploring and learning. We had trouble getting them to leave! They especially liked the dinosaur fossils and the military swords and uniforms
Jacki Lindeman
The Lego displays were very impressive. Museum has a little bit of everything, something for all interests and ages.
Mandolin Cole
This was a great museum! We took 2 small children and a teen, and they all had fun. So did us adults! The toy exhibit and 80's/90's style arcade with playable games they have up are particularly great. We spent too long on that one. The big windows overlooking the river are also a great feature, so pretty with lots of natural light. We spent about 3 hours there, and left exhausted, but still hasn't seen it all. So there's a lot to see! Great family outing.
Nicole Summer
A date away. We went and saw the "Poison" exhibit. Amongst all the other items, we got to investigate all the treasures we could uncover. Dont miss out on any portion fo6e this museum. There is always something interesting to see and learn about. Don't forget to get the video show or even stop by the cafe. They gave a delicious chicken salad sandwich on a pretzel bun.
Kyle Huff
Fun time. Lots of cool exhibits!
Nicole Boguslawski
Went to the dinosaur exhibit! Amazing. Automatronic and a little loud but the experience was awesome. We love the grand rapids museum. I included some pictures to really let you see just a small part of it. Its 3 floors and a small gift shop. Call for pricing. Sometimes they have some great deals!
Debra Whelan
I really enjoyed my experience at Grand Rapids Public Museum. It offers many interesting collections and exhibits that feature history and natural history. It's not too large so that you can't see it all in one day but not too small either. Very educational for kids and adults alike. I'd highly recommend this museum to people of all ages and interests.
Vicki Rodts
Very nice museum right along the river. Really enjoyed the 'Fashion+ Nature' and 'The Power of Poison' exhibits. Very well done!
Kodi Wall
2nd largest public museum in MI. Lived here all my life and never been before. Incredible collection of mainstays and some cool temp exhibits as well. Very eclectic and engaging
Shawn M
This museum is fantastic. Probably the best museum for a city this size I've ever been to. My kids loved it. I was blown away by the amount of displays this place had! I want to go back again!
Layne Romasco
We went to the Public Museum on a Sunday while visiting Grand Rapids. We were unfamiliar with both the town and the museum, so we kind of went on a whim. It was very enjoyable because they have such a wide variety of exhibits and artifacts there. We particularly enjoyed the Toys exhibit, and we did check out Bodies. This was a great way to be entertained for a few hours. The gift shop has some great treasures to check out as well. Overall, a good time!
Chris Toplack
The Grand Rapids Public Museum offers plenty of detailed and educational exhibits to appease virtually any visitor. The entire museum is well laid out with an incredible amount of detail placed into each area of the building. For the price, I highly recommend stopping by.
Jessica West
We had such a great time. Loved the variety that this museum had to offer. The layout and setup of the exhibits is spectacular. The Toys Exhibit and the Dinosaur Exhibit were both a ton of fun for the whole family. The Carosuel ride was a nice added bonus for our little one too! This place did not disappoint!
Clara Munson
Beautiful museum! Went there for a swing dance!
Tiffany Donahue
3 floors and something for everyone! I loved the variety of things to see. The gift shop had a nice variety as well. Will definitely be going back to see different exhibits.
Tim Shane
The Better Business Bureau hosted the 49th Annual Assembly here and it was fun for everyone and I admit I thought it was more for everyone else. Turned out to be a blast and can't wait to return when we have more time to see and experience everything. I felt all my ages from being a kid to a teen to a young adult and whatever that is that comes after. If you are even reading this far just go ahead and visit it.
Janee Gerding
We purchased a membership which essentially pays for itself after two visits. Our kids are 5 and loved it! They'll likely appreciate it in different ways as they get older. There is plenty of variety in terms of what to see and do here. Highlights of our visit (in March) were the whale exhibit, the carousel, and the fireflies/glowing nature exhibit.
Anthony Bohn
A Fantastic Family experience. Museum was very fun, a few places you can almost get lost in another place and time. Really enjoyed our time here. Ended up spending nearly 3 hours infact! More time than we spent at the zoo even.
Alexandra VanderVeen
After attending the light show in the planetarium we enjoyed a beautiful walk around the museum grounds. Very nice affordable evening out. The light show was well done and a very different experience if you have never been. We look forward to returning with the kids during normal museum hours to see everything else the museum has to offer.
Stephanie Brown
The exhibits we're detailed and informative. The flow of the museum was luring for curious minds. The doll room was fun and interactive. The hands on displays we're interspersed throughout. I am looking forward to visiting again in the future.
Amber Stilson
Cool museum, but no baby changing stations in most of the bathrooms. If your inclusivity doesn’t include parents and children, what’re you even doing?
Ashley Monroe
We had a lot of fun for what we paid. It was nostalgic that some exhibits have not changed since I was a little girl. The dinosaurs were fun, the kids enjoyed that they could make them move. We really enjoyed the toy exhibit. We ended up going out and buying slinkys on our way home.
Murtiag (Murt)
Awesome museum full of very interesting exhibits.
Michelle Burch
What a beautiful museum! I loved taking my nephew for the dinosaur exhibit! I love how much Michigan history/wild life they have on display, with interactive learning for the kids, and adults. Their changing exhibits are a lot of fun. They also have free days, so look into that if you’re just wanting to check it out!
Deanna McIntyre
This was a fun little museum to explore. I thought we'd need way more time to go through the special exhibit and the rest of the museum but less than two hours later and we were done. I'm not sure we'd need to go back, but it was a nice place and it was clean and well signed.
[I was a little disappointed in the size of the special exhibit (Mythical Creatures) as I'd seen it when it first was cultivated, in Chicago. My intention is not to sound judgemental but I'm comparing as I was excited to share with my family. It took 2-3 hours to go through the original exhibit - we got through this one in about 30 minutes, with reading the documentation. I wish there was more space dedicated to the special exhibit, if that were the issue. That being said, I understand how difficult setting up a exhibit is and appreciate the effort that went in - what was there was very cool!
kristina
This museum is super cool and really affordable, especially for the size - there’s so much to do! Engaging and interactive as well as incredibly informative, if you have a free morning/afternoon in Grand Rapids, this a really fun way to spend it. Also really family friendly if you have kids.
Phillip Harden
Grand Rapids Public Museum is a must see! Great place to go especially if you have family.
I recommend heading up to the 3rd floor to see the Dinosaurs. It's an unforgettable experience!
Brian Tillman
It has been years since I last visited the museum. I really enjoyed the trip, although going during spring break meant there were a lot of grade-school-aged children also visiting. All in all, it was a great time and there were new exhibits in addition to the wildlife dioramas I remember as a child.
Emily Lombard
I was delighted to see some new exhibits when bringing my nephew here for his birthday! The video game designing one was really cool, but also showed him that it's a lot harder to design a video game than he imagined. We loved playing the giant Yahtzee. He liked looking at the money and weapons. We bought matching astronaut keychains and astronaut ice cream on the way out!
Ashley Mobley
I went here with my sister in law and cousin, who was visiting from the Netherlands. This museum was quite fun and interesting! I love the way they set up the museum in an A-Z fashion. The museum felt like a mix of a hands-on museum with a historical, cultural museum. Tons to do and see!
Megan Graham
Lots of kids but had some nice exhibits. Pretty impressive museum
Chris Wilson
The museum is really awesome, very educational and still fun. We go all the time!
Mollie Smith
amazing fun for the whole family. went on a school trip and loved all the interactive exhibits that are everywhere. has something that will interest the whole family
Kiki Wins
Always worth visiting the planetarium! The main exhibits are mainly about Grand Rapids and Michigan. The dragons, unicorns, and mermaids exhibit was really interesting. Their carousel is always a fun stop too!
Brian Hirt
The only issue is that some of these exhibits that come in for events, are very lack luster. Advertising and promotion is definitely good because it always brings me in and gets me everytime.
Dana Beerens
South to see and do here! This useful is family oriented and has a little something for everyone. There are 3 floors of exhibits, our favorites include Michigan's native animals, the giant steam engine and the antique town.
Erica Mesaeh
Nice museum. Pretty views around it also. We only took about an hour or so in there. The check in/ pay process needs to be a little quicker I think though.
laura kenworthy
We visited specifically to see Popnology, the whole museum was fun though. We also enjoyed the bat exhibit, lots to learn! The old streets of GR is one of my kids' favorites. The addition of Santa's from around the world were fun to see and read about.
Brigit Soler
We had a great time, my girls enjoyed the Sesame streets friends show and they also learned about old times. Very clean restrooms and friendly staff.
Bill Lynch
I always enjoy my time at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. A great place to take the family! (Too many Santa's for my liking there on this visit, though!) 😉🤣 …
Dan Broersma
This museum was a lot of fun for our whole family. It was very affordable and there was nearby parking for free. We enjoyed seeing the whale bones that hang from the ceiling. We also enjoyed seeing some of the stuff that they had at the old Grand rapids museum and on top of that some of the stuff they had from the old Civic center which as a 35-year-old I remember going to as a child. They have a really cool toy section where they look through old toys and see how toys changed over time. I would definitely recommend going to this museum.
Sel
Exhibits here are always fun and cool. Great place to come back year after year. Get on the carousel 🎠 it's beautiful!
Dmytro Shaga
Great place, we liked it

We loved our trip! We had children under one, up to fourteen. Nobody was bored, and there was enough information and exhibits to keep kids and adults busy and educated. Everything was nice and clean, and the layout was perfect. I'm so glad we purchased a membership, we will definitely be returning!
Lorne Kasenow III
We didn’t know what to expect, so my partner and I went to the welcome desk to ask a few questions and the young lady we spoke to was so friendly and enthusiastic we decided to buy some tickets! So happy we did. We got tickets to the Popnology exhibit and it was sooo cool! Showing technology in entertainment and other outlets. The whole museum is very neat and awesomely laid out. With so many different rooms to explore we were there for hours. My personal favorite was the “old town” display of Grand Rapids from around the turn of the century. His was the Popnology by far such a fun way to spend an afternoon!
Kelly Alvarado
Absolutely amazing museum. Can't say enough good things about this place. $8 for non-member, non-resident is a real bargain. Would definitely recommend for any age.
Dawn Tallent
I highly recommend becoming a member, especially if you live within driving distance and/or have children. There's always something fun going on, member preview nights are fantastic, planetarium shows are free, access to the observatory in Lowell, and as many carousel rides as you can stomach!
Sharon M
Cool museum with lots to see. Admission was cheap! Great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Friendly staff. Loved the old time shops with the variety of products. Fun activities for kids!
Bobbi Rogalski
Very fun. Lots to do. You'll need more than a few hours to experience everything. We saw the planetarium show "Under Frozen Skies" which is pretty neat if you're interested in the constellations. Next time we'd like to see the Earths Habitat one. Lots to see and do for all ages.
R Jones
Impressive facility for a city of this size. Great location on the riverfront. Carousel is a nice touch. Liked the Toys exhibit (no upcharge), but the dinosaur exhibit was a bit lightweight to be charging extra for. TIP: set up the MOTU parking app before arriving. It was a hassle to set up (while family stood on curb waiting for 5 minutes). Grand Rapids should have option to pay with credit card at the meter as well.
Roger Barber
Nice museum with a variety of educational offerings. Perfect for kids or young adults. We spent a good two hours looking at the exhibits. A lot of the interactive programming is targeted towards kids, but is still neat nonetheless.
Ashley Cain
Wonderful museum with so much to see and plenty for kids to do hands on. We stopped here on our way home from vacation with our kids and it was a hit!
Jamie F
I really enjoy this place. They make young people have fun and learn at the same time. As an adult it is neat to see the things you had when you were growing up. Also it's a great way to get my daily walk in.
Rebecca Roberts Beels
We had such a great time roaming through the old town and seeing the inside of the golden body (special exhibit, and my 5 yeat old was bored). Really liked the animals and the machines!
Lucy Johnson
We had a wonderful time at the museum today. Spent a good 45 minutes in just the first section, playing with all the games, ideal for my little boy. The carousel was beautiful, but only allowed 1 turn. Museum wasn’t very busy, so would have been nice to maybe have a second turn.
There was a nice selection of exhibits to look around and learn about, museum was clean and everything easily accessible.
Parking was $1.25 for 30 mins (max charge $15) we were there for just over 3 hours and were charged $6.50. You pay on your way out at the barrier.
Mi Val
This is a great place to bring your kids but also a place that exhibits that really apeal to adults. My favorite part was easily the streets of old Grand Rapids. I love the feeling of stepping back in time. Plus they have it decorated for Christmas which made it even more fun. We paid a little more for the Deagons, Unicorns, and mermaids exhibit. It was crazy crowded so hard to stop and read everything so my only recommendation would be to limit the amount of people at a time for the specialty exhibits. Again this place has something for everyone
Justine Wallace
Love this place! Lots to do and see, love how interactive things are for the kiddos!
Javen Anderson
Fun place to visit once in while just visted with my mother n law and my husband and we had an amazing time very cool and worth it museum
Alex Benda
A must see place on hand rapids. From the giant fin whale to mummies they have all the old stuff worth seeing! Joking aside it's a lovely way to spend an afternoon and you won't even realize your learning something along the way! Won't regret it
Joel Ashin
Great place to visit, lots of fun and interactive exhibits for adults and children. Very educational and well priced.
Summer Thomsen
Great place to take the kids!!
Jesslyn Rinehart
The public museum is always a good time. I especially enjoyed all the new information about "Finny" the huge whale skeleton that has been hanging up in the main hall forever. I usually go to the planetarium, that's my favorite part. The recent Day of the Dead exhibit is very informative and interesting as well.
Heather Tramel
They were so thoughtful about how to get younger kids to think about art and decide for themselves what they like and why. A great first museum experience for the little ones!
Young Kwang Park
The GRPM was a fun and informative experience. I definitely recommend paying extra to get inside the Popnology exhibit as it was a very cool experience (They have a VR set you can try on!). They also had a pretty thicc beaver (?) That was super cute lol
Robert Smedley
Had a great time at the museum with my family. Lots to do and see. The only drawback was that the parking structure was full so we had to park across the river and walk. This is usually no big deal but have a 6 year old and a 9 month old didn't make it easy. Either way we had a great time at the museum, and I highly recommend it
Bob Hoagland
Lots of fun things for kids to see and do. Adults will enjoy it too.
J Fields
The best! Our 6 year old great grandson had the time of his life. Spent 6 hours there. Such fun & so educational at the same time. Planetarium was also great!
Maritza Graca Lobo
Amazingly great, filled with amazingly hirtorical artifacts from around the world, today they had dances from many countries and even native american dances. We thoroughly enjoyed our day!
Rebecca Gerhard
This is an amazing place to go for the day! Three floors of interesting things to see. There is a LEGO exhibit there until May and it is so amazing! The staff was so friendly and helpful, too! Purchase your tickets online well in advance though. The planetarium was sold out so we missed out on that today.
Kimberly Klinge
A fun museum for a great price. There are a lot of interesting exhibits. It kind of reminds me of a "best of" of The Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. A fun way to spend a morning.
Jeffrey Dick
Excellent place to go adults and children. Lots of hands on activities. The carousel is an historic gem and a joy to ride.
History of Grand Rapids well told.
Planetarium was fantastic.
We had a great time.
Katie Baxter
Very loud throughout, making it hard to hear one exhibit over another. Also, if you're at all light sensitive you'll have difficulties seeing the exhibits because the rooms themselves aren't lit.
David Glotfelty
What a cool place. Good for all ages, 3 and up. Plenty of interactive stations. Excellent displays. Just a wonderful family experience.
Ashley Langer
What a wonderful museum! Only $8 a person. We couldn't believe how many amazing exhibits there were!
Paul E. Suggs
We are so glad you enjoyed your time at the Museum, Tyler! Do you know the host's name? We'd like to thank him for his great work! We hope you visit us again soon!
Andrew Foley
Great exhibit about poisons. Overall, it's a pretty fun museum. Located in the center of Grand Rapids, it's easy to get to, and there's available parking nearby.
Lonecoolman
Fantastic place. Attended my Nephew's wedding there just last weekend. It was especially special because the musuem put out on display a Popcorn wagon that my father restored up until he passed. Then his buddies from his Model A club finished off and we donated it to the Musuem. Thank you so much G.R. Musuem!
Breanna Hyde
Not very stroller friendly. But the kids love it and we do have Memberships.
Keith Johnson
The museum was pretty cool. Wasn't sure what to expect with this place, but the family was happy with it over all. 3 floors of history here. From Grand Rapids, to toys and textiles to dinosaurs, animals and a planetarium. I believe the dinosaur exhibit is temporary though. We probably spent 3 hrs or so, including Star Lore in the planetarium. This place has something for everyone.
John Westra
A terrific terrific blend of Local & Regional & Natural History as well as Science Culture & Interactive Exhibits. And who can resist the authentic indoor Carousel!
Jennifer Robinson
Truly awesome museum! I kept expecting to reach the end, but was constantly surprised by finding a new alcove. They had a mummy, local history, a space section, games, etc. The variety was amazing and my kids loved how hands on all the exhibits were.
Joel Stephens
Great offering of permanent and rotating exhibits. There is always an opportunity to see and learn something new! The planetarium shows are also excellent.
Oliver Kawohlus
Very nice museum with plenty of different topics. I liked most the room with stories about immigrants in Michigan. Our kids loved the museum too and they are 8 and 11 years old.
Shpirt Dlushaj
I appreciated the old time town and toys, but wasn't able to look at everything because it was closing. I also appreciated the curious shop.
Laura Oliver
What a wonderful variety of exhibits for the whole family! There is a great mix of permanent collection and newer material, lots of clearly marked hands on pieces and interactive features. So affordable, and even more so if you're a Kent County resident. The "parking ramp" is a little tricky to find-it's actually around the corner as the street curves away from the river. It is free with Kent County ID as well though, which is nice.
Kevin Paul
Enjoyed the historical aspect of many exhibits. Very kid friendly place. Amazing restored carasol ride is beautiful and unique.
Kari Johnson
We go here about once a year. Incredible lego display! It's the best exhibit I've seen in along time. Great for all ages.
Beast Mode
This was a great school field trip. Exhibits were age appropriate and the scavenger hunt kept students searching for the answers.
Jazzmyn Cruz (Insomnia)
As fun as its always been from the nostalgic exhibits you saw as a kid to the new traveling exhibits they had when I visited this time. Popnology was a great exhibit if you catch it and are into robots and nerdy ve tech stuff. Super affordable and can fill up a day with the family or on a date. If youre not from GR I recommend it as a spot to visit while youre in town.
Amber Case
I went here by myself and I was very impressed. It would be a very nice outing for anyone of all age groups.
Michele Mellema
Was a great time as usual. The current Lego exhibit (same guy that had the animals at the zoo last year) didn't disappoint. Photo is one of the standard sights available, a trs-80 (aka trash80) from years ago.
Ben Mayse
Great place to take kids for an educational outing, the carousel is back up and running. Pricing for residents is very reasonable.
Amanda Sanderson
I love the different attractions that the museum has to offer!
Keep it up keep us curious!
Joseph Cash
This museum is always a delight for our family. The exhibits are well maintained and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. We love exploring the content together and separately as a family, always coming back together to discuss important parts of our national and regional history. We love ending our time with a planetarium show and "zooming out" to help reinforce how everyone and everything is connected. I notice new things and learn more each time we visit. We value the important space that you cultivate here and thank you for the care, creativity, and artistry you show throughout the building and grounds.
Jonathan Lowrance
It was a fun experience. Geared more towards kids, which in turn is awesome. It made the education fun and interactive. I would visit as they change up exibits as well, some were smaller than you would expect for the type of area they have. Still overall happy with it and really enjoyed the time walking through it.
john helcher
Great museum. I hadn't been here in also 20 years. There is so much to do and see here. It appeals to both young and old. There are plenty of hands on exhibits for the younger visitors. I loved the sections that were set up with the sights and sounds of pure Michigan's wildlife. The planetarium was wonderful with very informative presenters. He even took the time to answer some questions I had after the show. Highly recommend stopping in when in the Grand Rapids area.
Matthew Curry
Fantastic place to go, especially to take the grandkids! Too busy to take pictures on the inside.
Amber Kipp
Love this museum. It isn't huge so it's easy to see everything on display in a single visit, but isn't so lacking that it doesn't feel worth it. Recently saw the POPnology exhibit they have right now and it was awesome.
Chris Nethercott
Really nice museum with wonderfully large an intimate spaces. They cover a lot of information from wildlife to toys to native American information and art. I'll definitely come back!
Meg H
This place is awesome and worth every penny! There's so much to learn and see and a nice way to spend a rainy day
NR B
Definitely recommended! Don't miss to walk through a replica of the Old Streets of Grand Rapids.
David Pilkington
This place is huge! Three stories. Amazing selection of topics and exhibits. The planetarium was worth the price. Very educational and not boring at all. Took a 5yr and 10yr and both had fun. Nice place for a family trip.
Ashley Denton
Great place to go during a week day with the kiddos😁
Natalie VanDusen
This museum was really neat. The exhibits are the perfect blend of interactive and informational and really fun for many age groups. The room with toys was my personal favorite.
Amy Babcock
Awesome museum. A definite must see
Herb H
Three floors filled with well curated exhibits. Plenty of hands-on things for the kids. We only spent 1.5hrs there, but had a really good experience.
Larry Pieniazek
A superb local museum that I am proud to exhibit at
Dave Duggan
This museum is a must see 'em. I recently visited and I was able to hear the 1928 Wurlitzer organ played in their magnificent theater. I was also able to ride the 1928 carousel that is now operating again after a 4 year restoration effort. I am planning to return to experience their planetarium. This is a great museum and not to be missed. Very impressive!
veg mex
Beautiful collections. My favorite was the doll collection. Great place for a date or the whole family.
Joanna Vasquez
Nice museum in the downtown area. Several bars and restaurants are walking distance.
Ashley hinojosa
I recently threw a birthday party here and the customer service was amazing! Honeslty one of the best places to host a kids birthday party
Chris
It's a great little museum. Vastly different from growing up in San Diego, CA. I would like to see more from the planetarium, it was a nice show and look forward to a updated video and more astrological sights and more information on what is happening in the space exploration scene.
Some exhibits were given a lot more attention than others, and it shows. Would like to see them acquire more Egyptian artifacts and create a larger show room for it. They have a dinosaur exhibit coming out soon and hopefully it's going to be bigger than their mummy exhibit.
Wolfram H.
Easy to navigate three floor museum with a grab bag of displays, which is odd for a city museum. Most of the exhibit rooms are in need of a remodel but the spacious galleria when you walk in keeps the crowds under control. The museum does a good job in inviting outside exhibits and keeping a strong focus on interaction for learning.
Tip: Don't miss out on the 1928 carousel.
Scott Candler
For Kent county residents kids under 17 are FREE and adults are only $10 and includes a ride on the carousel. Free parking too! Have an EBT card? $2 admission. Great way to spend a few hours when Michigan weather strikes!
Jonathan Miller
Very good building in fabulous location containing super recreation of old Grand Rapids. A charming, enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers. Eclectic collections with some truly great exhibits including a functional letterpress printing works and a fire engine ready to go. A delightful time machine into the evolution of this interesting midwestern city.
jackee nunez
A great museum that has an amazing a-z learning experience. As you walk through the museum you can find the letters which have a whole section dedicated to that letter. They also had an amazing traveling exhibit that was about different mythological creatures and stories. It was an amazing experience that was super informative. I definitely recommend this museum to everyone it is great for all ages and will amaze the mind and give you new topics to discuss with others and research later on. My only wish is that they would have a bigger Egyptian exhibit. Definitely all around an amazing museum and can not wait to go back an explore more and see the next traveling exhibit. I am definitely glad we made the many hour trip to see this amazing museum it truly is a 5 out of 5 start museum.
Rosa Becerra
We had a great time! The dinosaur exhibit was much more than we expected👷! Our son enjoyed himself so much in the dinosaur exhibit....that we bought the family membership😀! …
Mr. Kelly Covelli
Great place to visit in downtown Grand Rapids. A lot to see and do nearby the museum
Rob Henry
What an awesome museum! We were very surprised about the size and the extent of their exhibits. The staff was extremely friendly and we really enjoyed our afternoon there. We will definitely be back to explore some of the stuff we didn't have time to get to. We ended our visit with the Dark ide of the Moon laser show. It was phenomenal! We will be planning a trip back this summer.
A “The Administrator” H
It's been a while since I have been to the museum but it's even better than before! It has a lot more kid friendly areas, the planetarium is great, and I love that they have certain things that they have come and go so there's always something new to look it. Just saw Bodies Revealed which was amazing!
Mark Kraus
Good mid size museum. Very much worth the price of admission. Membership is a GREAT value if you plan on visiting Chicago museums.
Michael Schippers
Some of the Art Prize entries outside the Museum.
Josh VanderLeest
Really impressed. The museum is set in a great spot with a view of downtown and the grand river. It had lots of fun content for both children and adults, so it kept us all engaged. Material was relevant to Grand Rapids history and the larger context. Will be returning!
Cuzonya Lasagna
Friendly ticket lady. There is so much to see here! Three stories of crammed packed exhibits. Our favorite was the toy exhibit. It was fun to look back at all our old toys. Be prepared to walk. There is an elevator if needed.
Xa Ya Za Za
Kids had a blast! Lots of stuff to see!
Margie Rex
What a great place to visit. The staff is friendly. Lots of things to see and do.
Tong Zhang
This museum is great for family to spend the whole day, lots of things to see and learn, how was the life century ago, how did people invent the steam engine, how the clock works, etc., pretty much interesting. BTW, member ship of Impression 5 can have admission half off.
Lonny Cruff
I haven't been to the museum since it moved, and if anything at all, it's even better in the new location. LOVED the show in the planetarium about the sun, and all the historical exhibits are even better than I remembered!
Erik Schulze
The museum was awesome we also went to see you on tour display of the body that was okay I would see the museum again and skip the other part
J J
My kids love It here. They are 9 and 12 and always learn so much. The scavenger hunt is fun and gets them looking at things. Everyone is friendly and informative.
Jill Abromowitz Gutmann
Wonderful! Loved everything. Interesting, diverse and interactive exhibits. It was a great activity for a dreary day when Meijer Gardens wasn't in the cards
Samuel Chambers
Attended a wedding here. Wonderful location and venue. Food and service were excellent. Displays were immaculate and stimulating. Entertainment for the entire family.
Ben Valk
Always a fun time! Especially for the kiddos. They change it up some and keep it interesting.
Keenan Yates
Clean place, well kept, interesting views, and a polite staff. They validate your parking, my dudes! Coat check? Check! Very nice exhibits that were clearly thought out. Made for a nice afternoon.
Joshua McAlpine
Rainy day? This is a great place to hang out and look around. One of our families favorites. Great rotating exhibits.
Joseph Scheppe
Popnology was really well done! Need some new seats in the Planetarium, but the show was well done.
Chris S
Overall a good museum with clear and easy to read information. My favorite part was the Anishinaabe exhibit, featuring their history and clothing, but there is plenty available. I've already determined to go back in a month when the new exhibit is up.
Danielle Buhrfiend
The best place to explore historical items from around the world and local. Get lost and learn. Fun for the whole family!
Eric Sherfield
Beaver fur ....I guess you could eat beaver stew but I haven't had the privilege so I will stick to protein shakes and veggies and chicken and fish lol
AJ Piotrowski
It is a museum. Not the best or the worst in the country. Definitely the best public museum downtown Grand Rapids :)
Marie Charis
The Bodies Revealed exhibit was super cool, ran out of time to explore the rest of the museum. They also have 2 live baby sturgeon! Reasonable price and right off the highway.
Jordan Hiltunen
Wonderful museum, especially if you have kids!!
Kimberly McClellan
My daughter and I went with her school, We had Great Experience! Wish we had more time though. Definitely making this a family day sometime soon! Next time with a schedule of event and/or showings, etc.. Considering making a Scavenger hunt for the kiddos to make the more knowledgeable of the Museum.
Ry Brandt
I grew up going on field trips to Grand Rapids Public Museum. I loved it so much then, and now that I'm older I have an even greater appreciation for it! I spent the time, read the information and was blown away by the deep understanding and objective descriptions. I loved the exhibits on different cultures in the West Michigan area.
Peter Tobiessen
This museum was walking distance from our hotel so thought we would check it out one morning. It is located on the riverfront across from the Gerald Ford Museum. For a couple dollars more you could see the animal robot display so we elected to see it.
It was a little costly, but there were a vast variety of exhibits to see. I enjoyed the replica of old town Grand Rapids because it reminded me of the one from the Museum of Science & Industry in Chgo. We spent a good two hours at the museum. It was a good place to take kids since many of the exhibits are interactive, esp the robot exhibit. There is also a beautiful carousal you can ride for $1.00 which overlooks the river. Learned much from the museum and about history of Grand Rapids.
Anahi Emberlyn Huitron
If you are a resident of Kent county, you will receive a small discount in the overall price for an adult/child general admission ticket.
Doug Dorda
The GRPM is accessible, wonderfully laid out, adjacent to almost anything you'd like to see downtown and prides itself on exhibits that showcase much with less space than some larger museums. Young children, older kids, teens and adults will also find something to dig into. I recommend anyone visiting the city visit this museum. The old Grand Rapids displays alone are worth the price of admission.
ralph dady
From my 10yr old son, to my 77yr old mom. We had a great time. Super clean, friendly staff and something interesting for everyone!! I will go back again. 3 hour ride one way. Still worth it.
Mike Hills (g33k247)
My recent visit to the Grand Rapids Public Museum was to attend a wedding reception. It was a great experience. The space and the historic items on display make for a very interesting environment for such an occasion.
My employer has also hosted after work social gatherings at this venue.
All in all, I would recommend this museum to anyone interested in historical information about Grand Rapids.
Dustin Peterson
That is a GREAT place to bring your kids. The displace are fun and informative. The museum covers a huge variety of subjects.
Chris Boudrie
A nice variety of exhibits. Very interesting. Great place to spend your day.
Brett Black
Amazing museum! Check out the Escher planetarium show and the bodies exhibit, very cool!
Natalie Garcia
Great place to visit. Very pleased with all the hand sanitizing stations everywhere.
Nate Brink
Very nice museum. Cool Lego display of Grand Rapids. There was a nice exhibit on bats. And retro toys.
The normal displays look a little dated, but are still informative. The carousel was closed for renovations when we visited, but it looks like it would be fun to ride.
amy king
Great museum, fun & educational. The students along questions were adorable.
Douglas Vanhartesveldt
Good exhibits. Very poor signage and in building directions. Had trouble finding the things that I wanted to see. There must be a way to better help folks get to what they want to see.
Aric Vaughn
While this isn't an all day museum, it is worth a visit. The toy exhibit was full of things a I had as a child. This also an excellent field trip for K-8 schools.
Mark Robinson
This is always a fun time for people of all ages. However, I don't go as often as I would like due to the lack of parking. It cost me $12.50 to park in the museum ramp for somewhere around 3 & 1/2 hours, that was actually doubled as my nephew and his family paid the same. That makes for an expensive afternoon. Meijer Gardens is comparably priced and has free parking so we tend to go there more frequently and just do the museum once or twice a year.
The museum itself is still worth 5 stars, not wanting to pay extortionate parking is my personal preference
Angelica Bargas
You get a huge discount if you live in GR. One of my favorite museums of all time
Phalesha Kyes
Katy and Jim were absolutely amazing to work with for our most recent event! Wonderful communication, helpful and friendly staff for set up and tear down, and they helped the event run seamless. As a Grand Rapids Event Planner, I will be back to use this venue again!
Kianna Sterlini
This is one of my favorite museums to go to! I love seeing old Grand Rapids along with the exciting rotation of temporary exhibits they bring in. Definitely kid friendly, but I think adults can enjoy it too. The planetarium shows are great and even the gift shop is nice! The parking is close by too (I believe it is $1.25 per half hour). Just a tip, it is cheaper if you have a student ID, under 17, or a senior!
Leah Mangan
I love the grand rapids public museum. Staff is friendly.
Gift shop has many options for all audiences.
Whenever there is a new exhibit in town, I love to visit. The space upstairs they use for these exhibits is done well.
I hope to go on the carousel again soon. The view is very nice and inviting. I have taken some pretty pictures of my friends here.
Rhiannon Meyer
This place is always awesome. I went here as a kid and again as an adult, I would go again in a heart beat. My friends and I wandered around for an afternoon, we also caught the northern lights planetarium show. The planetarium show was really interesting, I was surprised that it was narrated live and operated by a single woman on an iPad instead of a fully automated show. That human touch was lovely. The planetarium itself is nearly as great as the one in Wolfsburg, Germany. Also they have two penny crank machines for collectors!
Jody Carter
We were in town attending a conference, and rented out the Museum for a welcoming reception. The catered food was fantastic! The Museum staff were most welcoming and the few exhibits I saw were engaging and entertaining. I would definitely return on a normal day to enjoy all of the exhibits!
Sita Sita
Excellent city museum with some marvelous Michigan displays and many artifacts also dinosaur exhibit.
Chris S
The museum was alot of fun to explore. We ended up going at the very end of the day since we found it by accident just walking around the City of Grand Rapids. We only had an hour to walk around the museum. We were not able to see everything because the museum was actually quite large. For the price it was well worth the money. There were alot of interactive exhibits and alot of exhibits just for show. There is something for everyone here. I really enjoyed the Toys exhibit. They had all kinds of toys from my childhood, even an arcade with working arcade games. I enjoyed that the museum had exhibits with history and some with modern items. Truly something for everyone here. If I get back to Grand Rapids I am going to go back to the museum and this time allow enough time so I can see everything.
Linda Monroe
Lots of cool interesting items for kids and adults
Damir “Grof” Kesar
One of many great museums in GR, regularly updated with new exhibits with a great set of core exhibits that permanent.
Planetarium is also very awesome and worth a visit when you visit GRPM or on it's own.
Carol Cowell
I was with my 7 year old Grandson on a field trip. I was put in charge of him and three other boys once we got there. She asked if I thought I could handle it and thanks to all the wonderful exhibits I know they have at our Museum I knew I could. And I was right. For our first exhibit we went down the streets of an old town. Featuring the general store and a pharmacy with seats at the soda bar and many more such businesses. Some even open with volunteers acting out parts. Next we went to an exhibit with dinos. And there are just too many exhibits to name them all. But kept us all busy for two hours.
Bradley Black
I went to a wedding here, it's a really cool museum right on the river. Ride the carousel 👍👍
Shannon Workman
Always enjoy my visits here. The temporary exhibits that draw me back in never disappoint.
Sabrina Jordan
The regular exhibits were really interesting, especially the exhibit on west Michigan migration. We came for the special unicorns, mermaids, and dragons exhibit, which was really fascinating. It touched on cultural similarities of myths; I wish it had a little more detail, though.
This is a great museum for kids, and has a lot to keep adults engaged, too. I would definitely come back for other special exhibits.
There are wheelchairs available to borrow and excellent accessibility throughout.
Kathleen Gomez
Great exhibits for family fun!
Zachary Parsons
It was a fun museum that has attractions for all ages. It was very busy when we were there so we may have missed something but we did not find the flow of some sections made sense. We ended up in places with no idea what was the displays were trying to say.
Katy Jurczyk
First time going to museum and definitely worth the money! We went to a planetarium show and the man working it was amazing. 10/10 would recommend
chris macinnes
Very nice facilities, with interesting exhibits and rotating special exhibitions every now and then the mummy was a nice exhibit to see on a smaller museum.
Sue Barnaby
Loved it! And they have kept some of the old items that have been in the museum for years!
Gillian Barber
Awesome museum with lots to entertain adults and children with various interests. The museum does a great job of highlighting history (both more recent such as 1940s and ancient such as ancient egypt) and science (zoology, geology, paleontology, etc). The gift shop is wonderful as well as they have a lot of unique handmade items from local artists/crafters.
Tina Spaulding
The museum is rather fun. It's the parking. Hard to find, the website says it is free, but that is true only if you live in this county. Otherwise it is another$10. Misleading.
Richey Rock
We visited the museum during the Maker Faire exhibits, which, like the museum itself, was good but nothing spectacular. Some of the museum exhibits are old, worn out, or broken. While we didn't visit it this time, the planetarium is pretty cool, but costs extra.
John True
Lots to see and do! Multiple floors and exhibits. The planetarium was really cool! Great to go for anyone.
Astra Daemon (AstraDaemon)
I homeschool and the variety of exhibits have provided a great educational resource. The planetarium shows are an added bonus. They also validate parking for the garage right across the street.
Al C.
Could really use an update, but still a fun afternoon - especially for kids.
Sally Wesorick
Kids loved it! So much to see and do. Cafe has kid friendly food with reasonable prices. See the planetarium show if you can. There is an early show geared to young children.
Jacqueline Scherer
Clean, fun and amazing staff. We LOVE the carousel, exhibits and planetarium. Cafe is very affordable as well!
Abi Elizabeth Vasquez
Love this museum! I have been coming here for years, and I love looking at all the exhibits.
Lukas Sawyers
This museum boasts one of the most diverse collections of any museum I've ever been to. It has everything from local history and heritage pieces to fossils and ancient Egyptian aritifacts including an actual mummy. You could easily spend a whole day here if not multiple.
Cora Hoeft
Amazing and unique museum!
Scott Bouters (If Scott Can You Can)
We went for the POPnology exhibit. Very well done.
Xian jia Zeng
This is a very pleasant experience, the staff service is very good, the environment is very good, the exhibits have detailed information.
Linda Bothen
Alphabetized museum! Great place for young children. A LOT of hands on and interactive activities. My favorites were the doll collection and the wilderness exhibit. One of my grandchildren loved the Lego land and trying to play the Lifesized Operation game. Great fun on all three levels accessible by stairs or an elevator. Parking on the street with meters or less than a block away is a parking garage, charges by the 1/2 hour. Entrances are handicap accessible and so we're bathrooms in the museum.
Harry Rose
Wonderful place for kids. What a joy watching my great grand child reach to all the things they have their
Rosa CaVe
Great place todo share with the family. Is big and the planetarium is a great experienc.
micheal vanorder
The museum has a very upbeat atmosphere lot more hands on for kids. Love the new attractions they bring yes it does cost little extra but worth it. Highly recommend if you have not see it give it a try. Grand Rapids has a lot of history it always awesome to see and read about it.
John Dykstra
I Love going to the Museum, and love all of the Exhibit... The staff did an amazing job
Mary Wright
It was Free museum day. Thank you to the organization who sponsored the day. To all the volunteers who taught us so many things. We had a great time
J Wiers
Excellent place to take the kids. We really enjoyed it. Lots of interactive activity for kids. Price is reasonable.
K Daniel
Very nice museum. Lots of interesting things to do.
Devin Johnson
Really interesting exhibits, many staffed with someone who talks in depth about what you’re seeing.
Becca Anderson
Phenomenal exhibits and very friendly, professional staff. The toy exhibit is incredibly well done and super fun for all ages!
Justina Pau
Lots to see and even more to learn! The set up was very interesting and engaging; making it very easy to have fun and concluded into a memorable weekend outing. We all loved it!!!
poo
I visited my family to go to this amazing museum and this place is better than the museums in New York City. my family enjoyed the planetarium and my cousins loved the carousel. It is a huge and clean museum with welcoming staff. I will 100 percent go back here with my family again. Recomend for families.
TomRidlyDidlyDo
Awesome Museum to visit. There is a ton of variety on the exhibits. It is only $5 for students even if you are out of the county so remember to bring your student ID. Wish I would have seen one of the Planetarium shows so will have to do that next time.
Kerry Morrish
Went there for a Bridal Show, so did not get to see much of the exhibits. However, what I was able to see makes me want to go back again. The reason for the 4 stars is due to the absolutely outrageous parking fee. $10? Seriously, I just paid to get in the museum. I was expecting $5-8. Was not pleased about that.
Jason Lesiewicz
Mish mash of all sorts of stuff that isn't organized into any coherent message.
Madalyn Crawford
We absolutely loved our trip to the museum on June 13th. The joy we got from the planetarium experience was great. You could tell the lady doing it absolutely loves her job... it made my heart purely happy and made the experience 1 in a million. We also love how kind the security guy on duty was and how he was quick to assist with us when we had lost our cell phone. May I also add in that the girl working the snack area by the planetarium and the lady who led the planetarium talk were both more than helpful as well when it came to the lost cell phone. My experience was great and we will be returning.
sean crandell
The wife and kids just had a wonderful learning experience and the wife and I plan on returning soon so we can actually get the chance to enjoy the interesting exhibits. It would be great to read more about what we where looking at. As a carpenter I would like to volunteer one day to work on the lathe. Making something for everyone to watch would be pretty cool and never wrecking at the same time. We where there for about 6 hours though so its easy to get lost exploring such a massive collection of fascinating things. I highly recommend this experience for anyone looking for a good way to spend an afternoon in Grand Rapids. Not to mention the planetarium! That was sweet! Popology was cool too. Wasn't what I expected to say the least. This place will bring back memories, even if you haven't been there before...
Pang-Yun Chou
Comprehension ad educational museum for the kids. Nice place for studying and researching. Will recommend to the guys with the kids.
charlii sikon
A must for kids, the planetarium was great.
Doctor Matty
Pretty much the same stuff it had when i came here on my second grade field trip. Still very cool.
Carmen Kempen
Always a great place to visit. Especially in the summer when it's too hot to be outside. Residents of kent county get free ramp parking and lowered admission prices. The prices for nonresidents are still very reasonable. If you get a chance, check out a show at the planetarium, they are spectacular. All the workers and security are kind, and will gladly chat you up if you want!
Miranda Charo
Beautiful Museum, Friendly staff!!! Best Museum I have ever been to! I highly recommend visiting here!
Teresa Parks
Liked it but we were rushed out of the special exhibit early because they were closing soon. A security guard gave us a warning of their impending close 45 minutes early. Then kept checking in to see if we were leaving. As we were heading out my youngest ran up to an interactive exhibit that was off to the side and he actually took an aggressive step towards her, as I was telling her no we are leaving. We left immediately afterwards, and were apparently the last ones there, because they locked up immediately, even though it was still 10 minutes before they officially closed.
Jimmie SURGEn Clayton
I went for the astronaut space exhibit and I loved it. Three floors of historic entertainment. I really enjoyed my visit.
cynthia willis
Great Victorian store displays.
I love kids, BUT....VERY difficult to enter and exit museum with barrage of school children and busses. Then school children LOUDLY RUNNING LOOSE or teachers holding short classes within museum displays without ANY REGARD that others were visiting museum. TEACHERS, yes TEACHERS BLOCKING others from passing through museum.
Message received...not welcomed unless from schools.
Anthony Tabion
This museum really surprised me and my family. We spent the entire day here. It's not your typical new style museum where every exhibit is "donated" by some large corporation and there's only one way to enjoy it. Every section has really nice informative information to read. The exhibits are thought provoking and interactive for young minds.
Julie Shippy
They have so many amazing permanent exhibits. We went there in December this year during the toy exhibit and the dinosaur exhibit and we weren’t disappointed. They had it decorated beautifully for Christmas. Always a joy to visit this museum
will cramblit
Always exciting going here even as an adult. My kids had an amazing time.
christina “Nina” bazan
Went on a class field trip and feel it was unorganized chaos. I myself am used to that but would not prefer it.
Beverly Watts
We had so much fun at this museum! There was so much to see and many of the exhibits were interactive. We got there right when they opened and we just about had the whole museum to ourselves for the first hour.
Meredith Tyack
Fun place. 3 floors of activity and Michigan history. Ask for military discount. We did not make it to the planetarium we gears it was great.
Natasha Carr
I had a great time exploring the museum I’m bringing my nephews with me next time.
Valerie D
Awesome experience all around! We came in the fall for the LEGO exhibit (which was beyond incredible) but also enjoyed taking in every artifact and bit of history that the museum had to offer! I’d love to come back for a different featured exhibit one day.
Coty LaVere
Have a family membership and the kids love going to the museum.
The reciprocal partnerships are also great where on certain month there is free admission at other places like the John Ball Zoo, Air Zoo, Binder Park, Children's Museum, etc.
Cindy Williamson
Such a wonderful Museum an our state! Took our 12 year old granddaughter from Idahol to visit and she was impressed!
Lori A
Fun museum; reasonably priced. The volunteers were wonderful! You could tell they do the job because they want to & they share the knowledge they have learned. The staff were nice too.
Randy Tyler
It's a nice museum. It's a bit small even with 3 floors. I know Grand Rapids was furniture city before, but the furniture exhibit, which is large, feels like walking through a rummage/estate sale.
Mike Ahrendt
Great place to bring the family and check out some cool exhibits. Free parking in the ramp if you're a local resident with admission. Easy flow to get through pretty quickly. A lot of interesting things to walk through and learn about the city.
Toms Zirnis
I loved this place! Perfect for someone looking to pass 3 or 4 hours in town
Eric Hepner
Very reasonably priced. A lot of exhibits packed into a relatively small space.
Donna Osburn
Would of rated 5 stars, but two of the employees were very rude.. and the food there is way over priced. My children had a great time though which is why the 4 stars.
Bryan Boughton
Great local museum. Pretty good coverage of GR history.
Sara Twiss
It was wonderful! I had a blast with my friend exploring all the exhibits
Matt S
Brought my wife and 2 year old here. We had a fun time. The museum was clean and the planetarium was fun. Wish they had more dinosaur exhibits, but i'm sure they change them or have feature exhibits roll through.
Sal Moreno
Emily Hromi's "Concert Under the Stars" shows for a second year shows a true understanding of how to use uncoventional space and to create a unique musical experience. Seeing the collaboration with Nate Eizenga, Emily and musicians/artists has been one of my favorite experiences ever as a GR resident of a long time.
Bridget Smith
This was amazing! I kinda wish the pop culture exhibit was included in the price for admission. I understand why they charge and all that. It's just harder to enjoy these things if you don't have the funds. But a great array of things to see and enjoy. I loved the old time section. It felt like you were transported.
Thatguy 65
Good museum and it changes often but it's quite small
Tim Dine
Very nice interactive museum with modern and historic displays. Something for all age groups
Aoibheann E.E.
Great experience through and through. Did 2 shows at the planetarium and it was great! All of the exhibits were wonderful. Special shout out to Ben at the front desk for being patient and super helpful. Made today's experience better than any other.
Moritz Lohmeyer
Great museum and nice time capsule outside!
Joe Martinez
Visiting from out of town. This was a great place to take the kids. We all loved it and stayed for hours.
patricia morris
Great museum to spend time with family. Lots to see and do for kids. Educational for adults too. Day camps and summer programs are excellent!
pablodespiau
Really great place, is a must to see from grand rapids!
Susan Mitchell
Got busy about 11 am and a lot of eager learning kids, but it was so good to see them learning and exploring the museum. Very enjoyable experience, so give yourself time to explore 3 stories of information.
Marty billman
Went to planetarium here. Such a cool thing to experience. Then museum has lots of great things to look at also. Highly recommend if in area. Also if u live in Kent county has a reduced admission rate
Candice Bearden
Family fun focused on local history. Fun, interactive exhibits for all ages. Free parking directly across the street. Carousel still under construction but we highly recommend the planetarium shows!
Charlene Hernandez
Lots of fun stuff to do with my grandson
Jonathon Carrillo
Been to many museums, but I always come back to this one as one of my favorites. I love the design of this place the A-Z aspect is very unique and how the layout is ensures that you hit all spots in the museum just by following the path. Its not confusing or twisty like some others can be. The different exhibits are always a delight.
Director RCTA
Enjoyed this museum very much, lots of interactive things to do. Wish we had more time to see all of the exibits. We will be back!
Jeff Soldo
Pleasantly surprised by the size of this wonderful museum. So glad we went
Miranda Parker
The best public museum in Michigan hands down. My daughter is obsessed with the new pterosaur exhibit.
Michael Gibson
Here with the Grand Rapids Original Swing Society
dominique banks
Grpm has always been a great go to for my family for years. Our favorite part is definitely walking through old grand rapids and seeing all the little shops and products that were offered over a century ago.
Another great note is they have a scavenger hunt that many people bypass simply because it's not advertised.
Needless to say we will be back soon to check out all their other exhibits.
Ali Hashmi
Super cheap admission comparatively (from Chicago). The popology exhibit was neat, lots of hands on things to do, and learn from. All the exhibits were fun to see. Definitely recommend going if you can.
Erin
A great place to explore with the family. We love visiting the old and new exhibits! And always end with a ride on the carousel!
Jennifer Buck
Definitely a great place to visit! Need plenty of time to get through all the floors!
Katie B
My 16-year-old and I had a great time touring the museum. There's enough to do to fill most of a day. There was a lego special exhibit there when we visited that was fun. He loved the planetarium show as well. We only had about 2.5 hours and I wish we had at least an hour more because there were a few areas we had to skip.
Ashley Allison
The wealth of knowledge from the museum staff was incredible. It was so much fun learning about the pharmacy!
Allison Pepper
Seen the bodies exhibit which was very cool, then walked around the rest of the museum. Very clean and friendly staff. $15 to see the exhibit amd the rest of the museum, which is cheaper then other museums.
Lila K
My daughter and love this museum. We took my granddaughter when she was 4 & again this year for her 11th birthday. She was sick so we had to cut short. A lot of maintenance going on. It was still beautiful educational and fun.
Charity Pizzo
We came here on a whim and we were so pleasantly surprised at what a nice museum they have. The kids liked the arcade area and the planetarium best.
Faye Owens
Great place to visit. Lots of hands on activities for kids.
Brooke Bakker
I've lived in GR for 10 years and this was the first time I've visited the GRPM. It was awesome! Full of cool exhibits and a great place to spend an afternoon with my 9-year old. We were there for 2.5 hours and could've stayed longer. 10 out of 10 recommend!
Adelynn Campbell
I was impressed with their covid precautions and still making the museum very accessible. This is a great place to get a refresher on local history. I would love to see more in depth exhibits on the First Nations that occupied Michigan. I did a lot of research before coming which allowed me to appreciate some of the artifacts better. Seems very kid friendly and geared at bringing primary school groups to visit. A very decent public museum, wonderful views of downtown Grand Rapids, a great place to stop before a downtown stroll. Parking is validated and special deals for residents of Kent County!
Phil Veltkamp
Very nice city museum!
Darmesha Robinson
It was so much fun!! The Toy Exhibit was the best! I loved stepping back into my childhood!!!
Sean Carnell
I had family visiting from out of town and was looking for something fun to do as a group. Being relatively new to the area, I googled local attractions in Grand Rapids and was directed toward the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
My visiting family, including 2 children ages 7 and 10, had a blast at the museum! The alphabetical system for designating attractions and the special exhibits, especially the one focusing on pop technology, were interactive and educational in very focused and interesting ways! The price of admission was a bargain for the 4-5 hours of entertainment we received and the lifetime of memories we get to carry with us. I made a promise to my nephew's that if they visit again we will definitely be visiting the GRPM again.
Donny
Great museum. Shows history of the area. Lots to see
Brad Smith
Carefully curated displays, many interactive, for adults and children. The volunteers are enthusiastic sharing their time and exhibit knowledge.
Jackie chan_WTF
Absolute fantastic museum!!
Plenty of exhibits, such as Native American culture, animals, military artifacts, early 1900s history, toys, cars and the history of Grand Rapids in general.
The museum fee was $8 for 1 adult and $5 for parking at the parking garage across the street. 10/10 would highly recommend. 👍👍👍
Andrea Cherry-Watson
Very interesting and fun! We went as a couple, but it would be very fun with kids as well. Something for all ages!
Lindsey Kooiker
Great place to take kids and see new visiting exhibits
Megan MH
Very exciting place to visit! My kids (2 and 7) and I had an awesome time. We also saw the Lego exhibit which we really enjoyed. Definitely a must when visiting GR.... or even for long time residents. We love GRPM!
DNNY O
Kind of a weird collection, but I enjoyed the 1800’s vintage street exhibit and some old guns on display. Tickets $12.
Chris Bennett
Such a great place to take the family!
Ahmed Alwan
my family like to go there
Ryan Parker
We got here late today but pre-ordered QUEEN lightshow planetarium tickets anf it was a good ole time. ***light sensitive or seizure prone beware*** I would not recommend bringing under 5 children, it can get intense if you take them into the light show. Museum was booked for a party so we had a short trip, but we are definitely going back in the morning. So far it has been a blast from the past for my 1985 birthdate.
Lindsay Lauwers
Open, inviting and interesting to all art seekers. Knowledgeable staff and freebie days make this museum a must do!
Drew Payment
The museum is great and I think they do an awesome job of getting exhibits that are informational and entertaining for all ages!
Douglas McCarty
Great place to go to get my son away from the screen. Much to see and explore beyond the temporary exhibit of TP's (flying reptiles of ages ago) as the kids call them on Minecraft.
Max
Definitely get your money’s worth. Ice hockey arcade a must try
John Kitchen
Beautiful and well maintained museum. There's something here that each age range can enjoy.
audrey wise
I came for the first time and I can’t wait to come back again, I could not believe how big this place is and they have so much to learn from and lots of exhibits with some kind of interactive component
Edward Dixon
Really enjoyed the museum, very nice place to bring the kids.the exhibits are wonderful. Plan a trip it's worth it 100%
Amber Boetsma
A very fun visit for ALL ages! So much educational fun and history to see and learn about here. I went to a prom in high school here and a couple feild trips as a kid. It was always a blast. I would love to see bodies revealed here! A huge place in a good location in Grand Rapids. I'm not a 'big city' kind of person, but this is worth the drive to Grand Rapids.
Sam Rudloff
This museum is a must see! Brought my family here the covered restrictions are in place and they work really well most of the people had their masks on I only saw one lady walk around without a mask on. The security guard quickly told her to put it back on :)
Jack Hoffman
Always a great experience for the kids. My youngest loves the whale skeleton. Having the special exhibits, the planetarium and all the historical this m exhibits under one roof with parking included for residents is amazing.
Paul Warnicke
This was our second visit to this museum and we went to the bodies revealed exhibit which was short of "creepy cool" as my wife says. The museum has dozens of other free exhibits and you could easily spend the whole day here and not see everything. It is also kids friendly with lots of activities for them to their minds occupied.
Mary Rajnicek
There was so much to see and do here. We tried our best to see it all, but we really could have used more than one day. There's something for everyone inside; all ages and interests will find at least one exhibit to get excited about. The restrooms were some of the cleanest I've seen too, which is a huge bonus! The cafe was a welcome sight after hours of exploring. Prices were a little high, but I was happy to pay the convenience fee for sustenance. I can't wait to go back and check out the planetarium!
Joshua M.
Love this place. Always great events on the schedule. The planetarium is a great time for everyone young and old!
Ro a
A pretty fun place to walk around ! Nice staff
Bryan Gruesbeck
If you like museums, definitely worth the cost of admittance. New exhibits often and three floors of stuff. Check out the website for attractions.
Geo Nich
I've always been a huge fan of our great public museum. The history of toys exhibit was great. I really enjoyed the bodies exhibit -so fascinating. My teen boys got grossed so we could only see half of it. Oh well.
Daniel Wagner
So much to do for the price. Six person family, bank not broke!
Lor Raai
Wow! Staff is very pleasant! This place is amazing! Omg. It's so much in here. It's a great place to take your family or date. It's a lot of interesting things on each floor. The toys and video game area really took me back. I was so surprise to see some of my old toys on display. Wow amazing. If you live here or visit Grand Rapids. You have to visit this museum it is truly amazing. To the people that made this museum, you deserve awards. I loved it! I spent 4 hours here.
Jessica Kendall
We love coming to GPM. Fun for all ages.
Helen Kroll
Great way to spend a Sunday! Kids loved it!
robert ellis
Great place to learn some history.
Brittany Smith
What a wonderful place to visit! We truly enjoyed our visit. Something for everyone. Bring some quarters for the retro arcade! We will be back!
ARLIE HAMMONS
A unique and satisfying experience for all ages. You may end up wandering the floors twice to take the elevator at the start of your search for interesting and fun facts, many of them are about the Grand Rapids area and the people that made it successful.
Melissa Morrison
We bought a yearly pass for grandparents! Love visiting with the grandkids. Also doing the planetarium show is very entertaining!
Cathy
This museum is simply magnificent! Everyone in the family will find something they absolutely love there. I went with my husband and we were SO impressed with everything that was there to see. They even have a cafe so you plan to a whole day to make sure you can really take the time to see everything. We planned for about 3 hrs and had to speed through our visit to make sure we wouldn’t be late for our dinner plans.
Shawna Conley
We love to bring the kids down to the museum. They seem to always bring in new exhibits to keep everyone interested. We also really enjoy going to the planetarium. We always purchase the year membership because it works out best for our family and it gives discounts on other traveling exhibits. The carousel always a nice break as well!
Javon Brouwers
Impressive three storied museum, that is perfect for the whole family. Ive been coming to this museum since I was in grade school, and it always brings back memories. My girlfriend and I spent the entire afternoon here, and it was a blast! Highly recommend.
Lacey Hutchinson
It's definitely a nice stop to visit when exploring downtown. I really like the themes they have. Some are not in my interest but are great for others. The perfect place to bring the family or to help prolong the date you're out on. The staff is friendly and I think the kids will love it!
Joshua Haveman
The Grand Rapids Public Museum is an excellent stop for anyone with an interest in Grand Rapids history. The modest admission price is well worth it for the size and variety of the collections on display. Small children may not enjoy the experience as much as older kids and adults. But there is a lot to see and learn. The planetarium show is worth the extra commitment.
Ilona Forshey
Great fun for all ages. I always like to get tickets to whatever new thing they have on exhibit. Popnology was very interesting and worth the look. Always a great time
Alex Crawley
Love all the permanent exhibits and the rotating ones are exciting and make every visit new. Wish they hadn't gotten rid of furniture city
Jamie Van Orman
Not super interactive for young ones but still a great museum. My kids love the carousel and we visit 3-4 times a year. The kids always find something new that we haven’t seen the previous time. The animal exhibits are amazing!
Mark Ashworth
Very cool museum, for sure! Loved the exhibits, especially the Pterodactyl et al exhibition. Very well done!
Marcy Lehman
My family enjoyed our afternoon at the Museum. The Lego exhibit was cool and the kids had fun in the arcade as well. We would love to come back and go in the planetarium.
Jennifer VanLiere
My two kids had so much fun checking out the A-Z exhibit at the museum. They have a working arcade so bring some quarters and have some fun. The fossils and the zoology exhibit were a favorite.
Patrick Habertag
Wondeful place - fun to visit and with changing exhibits always fun again.
Lisa VanStrien
This museum is great. It is inexpensive and well done. I bought the membership early this year largely to be able to use the reciprocal benefits at John Ball Zoo and other places and they discontinued that for the year without any warning. Not impressed.
J. C.
This museum is absolutely amazing! They have a lot of different small exhibits daily, as well as limited time ones which are posted on the website.
Claire Bokma
Great place to bring kids. The carousel was a hit and I loved their interactive exhibits (there are tons). Some of our favorites where the history of toys exhibit and the habitat exhibit. Highly recommend if you are looking for an activity to burn off some steam with your kiddos.
Cindy Long
Nice little museum. Worthwhile for all ages. There was enough to see there for an entire afternoon
Matthew Morey
I hadn't been to the museum in a long time, but when my nephew came to visit I knew exactly where to take him. The entry was super reasonable for the two of us and it was a great opportunity for me to show him some of the history of Grand Rapids with their historical exhibit that takes you back in time to the days of trolleys and horse drawn carriages. We played jumbo Yahtzee, we got to explore interactive exhibits featuring games & animation, he was amazed by the giant whale skeleton (he'd only seen whales in videos before that), and we made sure to go to the planetarium show - which he Loved. Overall we had a blast, and my only regret is having waited so long to go
Carla
The museum is always a wonderful place to bring the grandkids.
Jim Winslow
Great place for local history. And some not too close to home.
Christopher Redmond
We took a 10 year old, two 14s, a 15 and a 16. They all had a blast. Great location, easy to find, but you do have to pay for parking unless you have a membership. Several varied exhibits cover many local and global issues. The mystery puzzle room was a blast, and the planetarium was a stand out. There is food at a cafe. It's simple and a bit pricey, but it tastes fine. We spent about four to five hours here and felt like we saw most of the museum. A fine day out.
rui niu
This is the second year my daughter participated in the Museum summer camps. I enrolled my daughter in all the programs fit her age. She loves all the programs that she attended. She also loves the fun we look through the museum exhibits carefully or play the games at the museum after her camps. The museum staff members are very helpful from registration to parking. Good place to watch my daughter grow!
Angelia Smith
So much fun for the whole family!! Always new experiences with the different exhibits!
Lily Rozewski
So much to see and do!
Kevin Macklin
Super fun!! Love to exhibit with generational most popular toys.
Patrcia Clemons
Great exhibits. Cool that there are people in the old areas, some even have good and nice knowledge! Three stars stars because the price is crazy insane. Pay for parking, then pay to enter the museum, then pay to see the exhibits within the museum😱
Also great area for kids to play
Andrea M
Great for all ages. Beautiful, educational and interesting. Definitely more than one day's worth of exhibits IF your really looking to explore and absorb. You can give it a once over in a single day though if that's more your speed. The rotating exhibits make a membership worth the money.
Susan Swan Tagg
Still fun! The volunteers in the Grand Rapids Old time city are exceptional. Popology totally worth the extra money, spent lots of time there playing with the kids!
Dawn Hagerty
Have visited this museum a couple of times. The long-term exhibits are fun & interesting, the temporary exhibits we've seen have both been very educational. The museum is always clean, the staff friendly. The carousel is enjoyable. There are many photo opps here, great views of the surrounding area. A fantastic place for kids to expand their minds.
Michael Metcalf
Dioramas are very well done. Quite an eclectic place.
