Reviews of Grand Rapids Children's Museum
John Merkel
A great place for children to explore. A younger kids 2-6 yo paradise. Correct amount of play time is 1-2 hours per session. Nice area with some parking. Basically, the parents run behind their kids making sure they’re sharing and not taking cuts in-front of others.
Samantha S
Loved it! We stopped to let our toddlers play while we were visiting family. They loved it!! Super cute, and lots for kids of all ages to do. My kids loved the grocery area the most. Out of all the children’s museums we’ve been to they definitely have more that would grab the attention and interests of younger kids! Keep in mind that it’s a children’s museum and not a discovery museum, so they have more “real life” zones such as an area where they can pump gas, grocery and restaurant area, a kitchen, a bank, a musical zone, a bubble area upstairs and plenty more. We definitely will be going back when we come back into town.
abe Kane
Pros: lots of different things to do. Interactive, kids seemed to enjoy it and we spent many hours there the one time we went
Cons: Other peoples wild children, and maybe other peoples cons are my crazy children. Lot of decently intriguing things, but nothing crazy cool like a robot dinosaur…but hey oh well
If ya have young kids, worth a visit I’d say.
Joel B
There are a LOT of activities to do here with your children. They even have a live bee farm!
Its reduced price if you qualify for EBT. 1.75$
You won't regret it. However this is more of an activity area than a museum, it does blend culture and activities to keep kids entertained and educated.
Brianne Hall
We really liked this place and my kids had a blast. I liked they had places for adults to sit!! I was disappointed in the gift shop tho, I wanted something with the childrens museum stuff but they only had basic toys found at most shops. Overall a good time!
Justine Wallace
So much fun for younger kids throughout, mya almost 10 year olds liked exploring but ultimately loved the grocery area. Gives them the feeling of being real people!!
Jeannette Fichtel
What a great experience for our family. I have two young kids and 7 year old daughter in a wheelchair with special needs and addie was able to do anything all the general kids could do. Thank you so much for making this fun for all.
Kristen Videan
First time visiting the Children's Museum. My kids had so much fun playing in all of the different areas. It's only been one day since visiting, and my 3 year old is already begging to go back.
Perry Griffith
My wife and I took our boys plus our nieces and nephews here as the entertainment portion of my son's birthday celebration to do something a little different than a trampoline park or some other kids entertainment place. They don't do birthday packages or anything like that but it was just a great alternative for the kids to have a lot of fun while learning at the same time. The staff was great and answered all of our questions. The kids had an awesome time. We even signed up for the membership for the year. Which allows for free unlimited visits for up to 5 children.
Toast
Took my 6, 4 and 1 year old grandkids. They had so much fun and didn't want to leave.
Rachelle
Geared more towards younger children. Two floors, but not a real big place. Clean facility, including the bathrooms. Shopping and cooking play areas, bubble makers, puzzle/block games, drawing station, pay phone, and mini fashion show runway where you dress an animal.
Lindsey Wray
A wonderful place for children and families right downtown. The admission is reasonable and there were many exhibits to explore. On a Saturday morning I never felt too crowded. My child enjoyed the wee ones area designed for children 2 and under. I liked the "yuck buckets" to place items that went into a mouth all around. There was a nursing room, an all gender bathroom and changing tables in all 3 bathrooms. We can't wait to come back!
Pete Bruinsma
Must-have Grand Rapids Mi membership if you have children 6 or under. It's a great place to spend some time, meet some kids, run into to some parents. Exhibit changes on thebregular, but also some reliable attractions. Staff is friendly and interactive.
Josh Tanner
Perfect for younger kids. Everything is much more accessible than some other children’s museums that we’ve been to and a lot less busy. My two year old loved it. The staff keep it clean and tidy. Lots of sanitizer and bins for when your kid puts something in their mouth.
Kristen Aikens
So much fun. We got the membership and it's worth every penny. I wish they were open more hours
Hugh Williams
Absolutely amazing museum. Two floors worth of activities for little kids (probably topping out around 6-7 years old).
Our 2 year spent 2+ hours there and loved everything from the music room, to the color area, and especially the bubble section.
There’s also enough interesting content to keep the parents from getting bored.
Anna Panjwani
My kids (1 & 3) had such a great time! There were lots of fun engineering centers and activities. My son has been asking to go back since we left. The staff was very friendly and did a great job of keeping it clean.
Einas Koujan
If u live in GR area, u should definitely get a membership in this museum. It's such a great place for kids. We go on a weekly basis and my kid is always having a blast there! I only wish they stay open for longer hours. Otherwise, it's a great investment that u would never regret it.
Ian Weibel
We had a great time in the museum, the new Mo Willems exhibits were really fun. It was a busy Saturday, but there was always room within a couple minutes everywhere. You can leave to get lunch and there are lots of options around. Parking can get be a couple blocks away so prepare on rainy days for that. It was our first time in Grand Rapids to the museum and my son definitely wanted to go back.
Shawn M
Fun little place for younger kids. I brought a 9 and 6 year old. The 9 year old had fun being the check out guy at the little grocery area, but that was about it. There's lots to do for a small amount of time, geared more for the 6 and under kids I'd say. Cool place though!
Scott Kagarise
It's a beautiful place and it has alot for kids to do. They have so much things for kids to hand on learn I would recommend every kid and parent to go there.. so amazing
Jonathan Knox
The kids loved the MO Willams exhibit! Always a great stop with kids if you're in GR. Parking can be a bit annoying, but that's true of all city parking. There are meter parking spots all around the block and I believe there is a parking garage not far away.
David C
Great for young kids, went with my 2 and 4 year old. They really enjoyed the Molly of Denali special exhibit
Jessica Stearns
I was in awe of this place. Not only is it completely kid friendly and proofed but it is fun for parents too. Their prices are extremely fair for the amount of entertainment you get under 1 roof. PLUS if you have WIC (women, Infant &Children's program) your ticket is over half off the original price! The kids were overjoyed, everything was magical new and exciting. Best money ever spent
Gerard D
The Children's Museum is an awesome place to take your kids to learn and to have fun. The museum has done a great job with providing plenty of different items to interact with. Annual memberships are available if you think you'll be able to visit more than a couple times a year.
Amanda Lougheed
We took my 16 month old daughter today and had a blast! So much for her to do and see. She loved the bubble area, music instruments, and sand toy pit the most. We all really enjoyed being there for the first time. In a few months she will have even more fun with older kid activities. We went during the week and it was great! Will definitely be back and recommend.
Nicole Boguslawski
This is a fun filled 2 story museum just for kids, they have everything from a bank to a racecar to a bubble station upstairs. So much fun. My girls had a blast. Also if you go to your local library you can get the voucher for up to 8 people free to go and experience for yourself. You do have to pay for parking. Staff was absolutely delightful, even a staff member who went outside and was greeting customers in by playing a guitar. We will definitely be back this week sometime to enjoy another fun filled day!
Nick
I have never been disappointed by the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. My kids have loved it every time and always find it fun enlightening and diverse in play opportunities. The museum changes exhibits often and ensures that it is a great experience, no matter what age group. The kidstruction area was a mess and I figured my kids would not like the area, but they loved it anyway! They thought it was amazing. It is worth the price of parking and admission if your kids are between the ages of 2-12!
Bruce Ortman
Kids had a blast. But people need to pick up after there dogs at the memorial park across the street. Disgusting and a shame for our heros who paid the price.
Cheryl DeKruyter
Great place for the kids! They really like that a couple of the displays change so there are new things to discover and play with. They loved creating and breaking the boxes and the construction zone kept them busy until I had to pull them away to leave. Bathrooms are on each level and usually clean. Staff is helpful. Snacks are allowed. And the parking app helps me not to worry about having to run it to put more money in the meter. A cafe inside would be really cool... Or locating beacons for the little ones- I really like that they have a staff member seated at the door to help keep runaways in check, because sometimes they just sneak away from under your nose.
Tulsi Ricklin
Great place to take your kids on a rainy day. They have so many activities for children of all ages. My kids absolutely love going here. The bubble machine is an absolute favorite!
Shelly Noorman
We had an absolute blast at the Children’s museum. My daughter is almost 2 and I felt like there was plenty to do to keep her busy but I feel like she will get the most enjoyment out of the amazing activists when she is like 4+. I was so impressed with the little town and the pretend doctor’s office/ER. They have thought of so many details that really make it special. We will be back as she grows up and look forward to even more memories.
Jordan Russom
My son had a ton of fun! One complaint tho. The book selection up stairs was way too political for little kids. I don’t have a problem with this stuff but at a kids museum it’s just a little absurd. There wasn’t one book that wasn’t like this in the whole basket. I mean one of them was titled “woke” this is indoctrination at its finest, not acceptable.
B
We usually love this place. Was a little taken back at the fact that they wanted us all to wear masks but yet didn't clean high traffic touch points. I watched 2 employees sitting and playing with toys but not cleaning. I made sure my kids hand sanitized! Other than that my kids had fun.
Dane Peterson
Amazing children's museum. Feels very Montessori inspired. Construction, cars, grocery store, kitchen, dressup, MRI machine, operating theatre, x-ray samples, bubble area, etc. Baby area was cute with a variety from non-walkers to toddlers. Nursing station. Child sized potty and changing station in bathroom.
Anna Cavazos
Fantastic experience for our three kids (6, 4 and 3) and honestly for us too. So much to do and see enough that so far going once a week thanks to our family membership is a new learning experience each time.
Side note/insider tip: there's no parking just for the museum as it's limited to street parking so we tried the parkmobile app to pay for our meter and it was super easy and so nice to not have to watch the clock so closely while having fun!
Kelsey Cornell
It was busy but still able to do all we wanted. Our son had a blast and enjoyed himself. Lots to do, we spent over 3 hours there. Clean. Saw employees cleaning and they had yuck buckets. Only problem we had was kids stealing toys from our son, but that wasn't the museums fault. Great experience and really fun. Would reccomend
Paula Carpenter
It wasn't what I expected. Kids can run around and do what interests them. It's kind of a free for all. There's so many things they can do for playing pretend. They can play with other kids, with their parents, or on their own. They can do a craft each day also. I would take my son once a week if I lived closer.
Nicholas Daniel
Great spot to go to when you’re visiting GR. Stopped in for a couple hours and was able to do most of everything. Super friendly staff and the place stays clean. You will always see someone reorganizing and cleaning.
J.R. Surrena
Always a joy to bring the kids here. They love to explore and experience the Grand Rapids Children’a Museum! Plus we were able to meet Piggy and Elephant! We’re big fans of Mo Willems!
Ray VandeGiessen
Great hands on experiences for kids and adults. I don't know who had more fun while we learned .
Jason
BOTTOM LINE :: hours of fun hands-on learning for kids of all ages at a reasonable price and in a great location
PRO :: large area, kids can run around, open layout, tons of different stations with wide range of topics covered, new exhibits frequently, cost is reasonable, and location downtown is perfect
CON :: parking can be hard to find at a reasonable rate
Suzy Schmaltz
A truly remarkable place to bring your children! Many fun activities for all ages including adults :) We had an amazing family day by going here.
Justin McCoy
The best. Well worth the membership. Always well kept. So many fun things to explore. Good for toddlers and up.
Jennie Kelley
The kids always have a blast here. I love that activities change often too. Staff is very kind.
Tammy Starkweather
Loved it. However, way too crowded. Need more regular and consistent hours of operation.
Emily Pope
Tons of fun!
I appreciated that there were a lot of tables with thoughtful toys where kids could explore and create things. The puppet theatre, fire station slide, dramatic play areas, and bubble tables were our favorite!! How cool! We also enjoyed making a crown in the craft room. :)
Not open super late, so plan with that in mind.
Yuzhong Xiao
Great place for family time! A lot of fun stuff for kids!
Emily Reynolds
My brother loves going here!
There are so many different activities for the kids to do. They change things up once and a while too.
Katie Engle
This was a bit different if an experience then we were expecting, but it was still fun! The whole thing is hands on. The kids can get into everything! Which did kinda make it a chaotic mess, but that's what kids do :) and they all love it! There's many pretend stations where kids can play pretend-construction zone, hospital, car shop, gas station, grocery store, post office, and more. There's an excellent bubble spot, sand table, giant light brite, rock wall, instruments, and a baby/toddler zone. Just so much for kids to try out and experience! Parking downtown was kind of tough. We downloaded the meter app for grand rapids (currently Motu) and that helped out a lot.
Katherine “Katy” McGarity
This place is amazing for the younger people in our world. Be aware of busy times, and bring your patience if visiting during a busy time, but I've never encountered anything but friendly people there and lots of young people living their best lives. This is one of my favorite places. For decades, whenever I was entertaining a child, this was my first go to. Started with my kids, now my youngest grandchild is my main guest of honor. I've taken kids, grandkids, friends, cousins, niece, nephews, etc. This is THE place for kids to be kids!
Mariah Wilks
My child always has a blast here! Parking is a pain at certain times of the day, but that's not the museum's fault.
Elizabeth Jimenez
We were headed for the Zoo when it began to pour so we headed for the museum. We all had a lot of fun and the kids definitely want to return. I especially appreciate that signs and written communications were in both English y español. Lots of engineering centers, lots of discovery set ups, my grandkids loved the music area for kids who are often told “don’t touch”. Loved the postal center with paper, markers, envelopes and guidance on how to write a letter. (In English and Spanish). In the grocery store section kids LOVED shopping. One suggestion is to include some gluten-free items like Cheerios so Celiac kids can read boxes and find things they can have.
Anna Dixson
My girls 3 and 6 had so much fun. Great place to take the kids.
Julie Rosenbaum
So much fun to be had! We loved that there were multiple levels and age appropriate fun for all. Our 3 year old and 1 year old loved the baby/tot area and construction area, as well as the cars, bubbles, and building toys. Definitely a family fun day!
Allek Scheele
Interactive fun for every age! My toddler was worn out after about 2 hours. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Sofia Ovalle
Grandkids had so fun there. Highly recommend. Best hours are between 10am till noon .
deliah cole
We take our daughter every weekend. She loves it. we love it too staff is friendly, the other kids are great. No complaints from this family :)
Jason Kim
Fun place to take the kids to. More of a place to take younger kids (elementary age group) to.
Dj H
My children love coming here and exploring. The membership price is reasonable for a year. The change of activities and centers throughout the year is nice too.
David Brown
A hidden gem! The activities are fantastic and the staff is always super helpful. My kids are always excited to go back!
Amanda Frick
I love how interactive the children's museum is. It's usually busy when I go there, but the kids love it. They had people handing out candy for Halloween!
Andrew Short
What they have for children is nice and our child had fun. I took away 2 stars because they have heavily politically driven material that kids don't need to be exposed to. Just keep it innocent and for children.
Shellie Silva
Clean facility. Kids had a blast. So many things to play with. Fun for kids and parents. Friendly staff.
Laura McGovern
The Museum itself was awesome, our classroom stayed busy the whole 2 hours we were there. So much fun! The only problem was they still have their water fountains closed and the museum store was closed so they had no water to drink. Our children left very thirsty. Please open your water fountains!!
Jodi McGarity
So many activities to see and play with! My toddler had an absolute blast here. We spent about 2.5 hours and would have spent more had they have had a snack and eating area. We will definitely be back.
carlie colantuono
Me and my son had the best time great place to take the children.
Micayla Morsman
Fantastic! My 2 year old and his friend LOVE IT! Great for ages 12 and under!
Carol Duron
The best place in town to take the littles to explore and have the best time playing .
Rut Bonas
The kids love it! I definitely recommend coming here with your kids.
Amy Dee
We had so much fun my kids didn't want to leave!
Sam Sapp
Love coming here. My kids always have a great time. The exhibits change quite often. The staff is wonderful, they help out and interact with the kids very well.
Steve Love
Amazing space to have fun with your little kids! Also, they allow you to have coffee while there (madcap is nearby). Win win!
Nathan Grajek
It was fun, but not as much as I thought. Guess I imagined more to do. But overall good and the staff especially was great.
Ben Dekker
We had a great time with our 4 and 2 year old. I'm typically opposed to spending money, and I don't love crowds. Compared to our usual family activities this was expensive and crowded, but we had an awesome time and are looking forward to going back.
Mike Schultz
This place is pretty nice for younger kids.
John McCookster
Great place to bring your child. Went on Thursday evening for family night and was very affordable and my daughter loved every moment.
Kim Tagliareni
C'mon now- 1 price for all day ticket (can even leave and return within sane day for no additional re-entry fee. Exhibits are constantly rotating for new and exciting themes/activities for kids. LOVE it!
Jeffrey Jorgensen
Super fun and a great deal. It kept the kids busy for hours.
Chelsea Markham
I purchased the membership about 6 months ago and we love visiting the museum! My kiddos 9,3 and 1 really enjoy the shopping area. The employees are super nice!! If you haven’t visited I highly recommend.
GREGORY WRIGHT
All I can say is I saw a lot of young children that did not want to leave. My granddaughter is 5and I had drag her out of there kicking and screaming.
Lacie Ahrens
Such a great place to take your children or grandchildren especially when the weather is not so nice out. It's affordable and there's an endless amount of activity for the children to enjoy and lots of fun for the whole family!!
Madi Boerger
Kids had great time!! Came with an almost 2 year old and a 3 year old. Both had so much fun!! Much to do for all ages. Also two 14 year olds and a 12 year old, they had fun playing too.😶😏 …
Tariq Ali
Great place to take the kids for hands on learning. It would be nice if it was bigger and had more activities. Still, kids loved it.
Michael Fritsch
Great for a couple hours with the 2 yo grandkid. 100% hands on. All kinds of fun stuff for the kids to do. Probably not the most interesting of a place for kids over 8 or 9 yo.
Very clean and well maintained .
At the time we were there they did require a mask for ppl over 2 regardless of vax status.
Kelsey Huth
Loved it when I was a kid & now love it even more when I go with my sweet nieces
Jamie Kosters
One of my favorite places to take my kids. Fun stuff to do for all kids
Justin Powers
This place is awesome, so many exhibits and interactive experiences for the kids, very well put together with excellent staff members.
Really can't say enough about this place.
It is now one of my kids favorite places to visit
Nihada Lilic
A great place to take children on an adventurous learning excursion. Their membership is well worth the price , $75 for three people for an entire year instead of paying $27 for one visit. My seven year old, a picky child, particularly liked it.
Autumn B
Kids always have a ton of fun there. A bit on the pricey side though but they do have discounted admission on Thursdays but as you can imagine that is the busiest day.
Stephanie Peabody
Very fun friendly environment, lots of attractions for smaller kids (toddlers) pricing was very fair!
Beth Sommer
SO fun for kids. This would be my top choice of suggestions for people who want to know the best place to take their kids to play in Grand Rapids. Wish I was still a kid so I could play there!
Dominique Darchelle
Both my 5 and 6 year old had a ball. Good place to let kids get out energy. And they participate in Museums For All, so for 6 people it was only $11.
Mark Shultz
The kids will love this totally interactive and activity filled children’s museum. Lots of unique hands-on toys exhibits and learning experiences, actually fun for the whole family.
Sherri Keen
Lots of great seasonal crafts. Nice selection of toys!!
Jodie Dehoek
Great hands on play and discovery.
Great place for parents and children to play and connect
Megan Ward
The children's museum is something every child in grand rapids should experience at least once! There is so much to do and all of the play is focused on learning.
Brian Soucie
Kids had a great time. Lots of activities and special events.
Patricia O'Neal
My 4 year old loves playing with the exhibits but still requiring masks at this point is absurd. They still haven't made any timeline for when they might stop requiring them either. These kids are all touching the same things and playing together, a snot covered rag is doing zip at that point.
Amanda Settle
Excellent price. Very fun for my girls.
Amy Ross (Elle Bell)
Very fun! Interesting and cool history facts and activities.
Ryan K
Fun every time! Staff is friendly, it’s different every time we go. The kids always find something to do. Always worth the time and admission cost. It’s small in size but we always stay just long enough
John Jackson
Absolutely love taking the kids here it's always a good time for all of us. However, please consider putting padding or something around the cross beam undetrneath the flight of stairs going up to the second floor, just past the landing. My son nearly hit his head on the steel cross beam. It's right at about at a young child's hight and would hate for a child get hurt on it. Other than that we all love the museum. I mentioned something to the person at the front counter as well. Thank you.
Shayna Jones
My experience is typically pretty nice. The workers are decent and professional. The environment is one that my children love and look forward to seeing what is new each time they go. I do wish a few of the items were more interactive for the children, but still keeps my kids entertained, so I’m happy with what they currently provide!
Abbie Vida
Wonderful destination for kids! I have been going to this museum since I was a little girl, now I bring my own kiddos here to play and run free!
Chris V
Brought my kid here and she had a blast 💥 …
Michele Sauers
Great for young kids as it has several interactive activities on 2 floors. Kids may feel like they are playing while doing educational activities.
Tom Bazan
Fun for the kids. It has fun options for several ages. Good place for a day of fun in downtown Grand Rapids.
Cu Nguyen
I've been to 20 Childrens museum in America and this one is the best out of all of them. Chicago, Indianapolis, Ann Arbor are bigger in size but not all their exhibits are Children friendly. They have regular events and host all sorts of activities throughout the year. I take my kids here twice a week and they love it. However if your kids are 14 and up then they probably won't like it as much. But anywhere from 0-12 years of age they should love it. Since it's opened from the pandemic it isn't as great due to lack of exhibits and themes but once it gets back to normal then it should be awesome again.

Kathryn McMillan
We were visit f from Texas and go to Michigan twice a year! We love finding fun experiences that my daughters can play and be creative! The staff gave us a bag of goodies to make art and sidewalk chalk!
Christa Markoski
Love to take our children here. We have been members now for three years and will continue until our children outgrow it. It is always nice as every month there is a new theme for them to explore and learn new facts about life and living. It is also a great place for our kids to grow around other kids and learn how to get along and share with others.
Soul Sought
So many things for the kids to do and lots of fun.
Tanya Lavrishin
I love this place for my children! It seems that everyone has something to do. It’s amazing to see how the “exhibits” encourage imagination and improves their skills! They also have little craft times. I would encourage you to plan your stay to include a chance to do that. My daughter loves the fort building section. And son really enjoyed the bubble section. We will be back!
Cameron Shawcross
We had so much fun with every exhibit! Fun for all ages and all interests- a must visit if out-of-town
Philip Travis
It's not big enough for a whole day trip, but makes for a good morning OR afternoon trip. Kids even in early double digits may find it mostly too young.
Shae C
Although the parking situation is a bit difficult even on a Sunday... At eight bucks a person to get in, and free coat racks, it was a great deal. We played for three solid hours, and had a wonderful time. I was with my six and a half year old . We saw families with children ranging from toddler to about 10 or 11. And everyone was having fun.
Their gift store even sells
wonderful stuffed animals that are made from completely recycled plastic. They are so so soft.
Sara Schader
The Children's museum has a lot of great stuff for kids to explore and learn. Every kid I've ever taken there has always loved the bubbles exhibit. However, the price to get in is kind of pricey for just a day visit. For that reason, our family loves to get a year pass which allows us to also visit other museums for free or at a discounted rate with the cultural exchange. Also, the museum is pretty packed on the weekends. I would definitely suggest checking it out and going on a weekday.
Danielle Jones
Fun...Fun...Fun. My little ones really enjoyed themselves. Family night on Thursday 1.75 admin.
Jameson Ewigleben
Our family has consistently had a membership for the last 10 years. We live close enough to walk. My oldest son started going when he was 2 years old. Even though he is a bit older now he likes to go with his 5 year old brother and share the experience with him. They have a good amount for toddlers all the way to about 10 years old. The exhibits are always changing making a membership worth it.
J Frizzy (JFrizzy)
We had a blast here! It was our first time going and my son (7yo) loved it. There is a lot to do and a lot of kids around. I would give it 5 stars but they didnt seem to have any organization during the day. If something gets moved or lost from a specific spot Its needed. It wont get moved back until the end of the day. At least the 1 time I was there. Either way we had a great time and anyone with kids especially under 10 should go at least once.
Kim
Kids AND adults love this place. Your children will enjoy every inch of this place giving it has so many different interactions throughout. From playing with large bubbles, playing doctor or dress up, to pretend play in their "store" area, children will not get bored here. I would take my children every week if I could. The best part is, parents can join in on the fun or just sit back and watch at their many seating areas and will enjoy the time spent there just as much as the children do
Danny L
Great place to bring your kids to sit down relax watch and have a great time explore imagine interact with all the exhibits. 2 floors, lots of things to do and your kids won't be bored after 30 minutes, at least mine were not. Parking is a little challenging but this is downtown so nothing unusual about that. They've managed to do a nice job with the space.
Katherine Hopper
It was crazy and crowded and so much fun! My kids could have played all day and not been bored. They have sensory tables, stations for pretend play, a music corner, dinos, bubbles, etc. The staff was very friendly as well. It may be hard on kids with sensory issues, but I believe they have special sensory friendly days as well(be sure to check their website or call to ask)
Tammy Johnson
GRCM is such a great place. Friendly workers and great hands on exhibits. Love to play there.
Sara Mannschreck
Excellent trip on a snowy day with four small children!
Michelle Schmucker (Shelly)
Great hands on museum. My son absolutely loved this place when he was little. We went many times and we spend a lot of hours there. If you have small children they will absolutely love it!
Laura Santiamagro
We just took our 10 year old with special needs here. It was a fantastic experience! We were able to check out a sensory bag with noise reducing head phone, a weighted vest, a social story, emotion/communication cards. They also had a quiet/sensory room. It was soooo good and the staff was incredible! Highly recommend this. My Micah had a great time and it was so good for this momma too!!
Mandie
My kids loved it! 4 hours was not enough time.
faye lowery
My grandkids loved it tea party was different people not really liking my boo boo to sit there but that's ok we paid and played

A staple in the Grand Rapids community, the GRCM is fun and educational for kids of all ages- including adults!
April Belisle
Great place to take the whole family! We love going.
Richard Cnossen
Love this place for our little ones. In my humble opinion this is less of a museum and more of a play place, but all of the activities have some aspect of education and/or creativity. We visit often and are impressed by how regularly they switch out the "exhibits" to keep things fresh. Our little guy is 3 1/2 currently and he's getting best to the prime age to really enjoy most of the activities here.
Matthew Curry
What a fun place to take the grandkids!
Jonah Harjer
This place rules. Every town should have one. I wish I had this when I was a little kid. My kids love it. They have free daily activities and they change up the play areas occasionally so that it doesn't get old. Great staff. They keep it pretty clean and organized considering the amount of kid traffic they get. Love it .
David James
This place is so cool for young kids. They've got a variety of activities and things to play with for toddlers on up to elementary age children. My toddler goes nuts with the big foam block pieces, the bubble stuff, and all the little mirrors and tunnels and things to explore. The best part is that the staff is so friendly and helpful - and talented! Last visit, a young man played piano for us, which was lovely. Also, they've got a sense of humor tucked into the place, as you can see in the photo.
Charlyn Cournyer
Big kids 😊 and our kids had a great time. It's very nice place for kids. So much stuff for everyone.
Justin Hastings
Absolutely a wonderful place for kids and parents alike. Many activities for a variety of ages. Staff is very friendly and they seem like they actually care about your experience. The gift shop has a pretty good assortment of stuff too, the perfect way to end your trip with a take home activity.
Kris
I took my twin 10-year-olds and my 8-year-old nephew last weekend and they had a blast! The entire place stimulates their imagination. We were there for 4 hours and not once did they get bored or stop playing. We stayed until they were about to close. They're already asking to go back! Ticket prices are very affordable and the staff was fantastic! I highly recommend this place.
Sarah Hillman
My kids had a blast here - there are loads of things to see and do. The bees were interesting and the kitchen play area was a huge hit. They also loved the box building, the medical center, and the soap making class that was on offer in the back. The only down side was the cost of parking - because it's downtown you have to park in one of those pay by the hour public parking lots and it cost a fortune - more than the museum for all of us to attend. Oh well, the museum was tons of fun!
Dan Broersma
This was a really fun place to go we went on a Thursday night where they have a family special where it's only like a buck-fifty a kid for a couple hours in the evening my poor and two-year-old really enjoyed all the Hands-On stuff. They had a bubble area to play in they had a farming area to play in and a bunch of other places as well they could make tents with sheets there's a tent area to plan it was all very fun. I would have liked to see a little more order it was very stimulating to be there there's lots of stuff everywhere but overall it was a lot of fun.
S Williams
We had our daughter's first birthday party here and it was fantastic!! Thank you to each staff member for your kind help, you were all so great and helped make the experience wonderful. It was clean, easy, and all of our attendees were extremely happy and had so much fun. I HIGHLY recommend doing a birthday party here. Thanks for the great experience!
Stephanie wymer
great fun for kids. many things to do. things change up about every 3 months I thing, even with out the change up my kids like to go. Many different kinds of activities so there is some thing for every kid to enjoy. can be busy at things but that is how your kids will make new friends. they do school trips here. very clean for having a ton of kids running around. staff has always been very helpful and kind.
Dan Burrington
I see a lot of reviews where people bemoan the educational value here. It is a great place to take your kids, but it's more about creativity than anything else. My son loves this place and it's like pulling out nails to get him to go. Great way to tire your kid out on an afternoon.
tiffany deboer
We only had 2 hours due to not knowing the area and parking at a 2 hour meter but we had a blast and we could have easily spent all day there. They had a ton of different fun themes for all ages, tyre staff was friendly and considering its a place for small children it was kept very clean! We will definitely be going back!!!
Andrea Molenkamp
Alot of sick kids running around. Pretty gross. And thought there would be way more to do. Kinda disappointed.
Wesley Machiela
Had the opportunity to attend a murder mystery evening with my girlfriend. It was a blast we were grouped up with some other folks to team up with and we ended up winning the evening with the correct solution. We were able to explore the museum before and after the dinner and it was a fun trip down memory lane. We found some of the same toys we remembered as well as some really cool new stuff to play with! Would love to come back here and spend some time being a kid again!
James R. Winfree, Jr.
We had a terrific first visit this past weekend. I was very impressed with the activities they had for children to learn and explore. This definitely had a wow factor for us and we will certainly be going back soon. The employees were all very helpful and friendly too. I recommend packing your own drinks and snacks.
Carla
My twin 3yr old granddaughters love it here
Joshua McAlpine
This is a fun place for kids. Bee hive on the 2nd floor. Building locks everywhere. Tree house. And a market to buy groceries.
Lots of fun.
Only reason not five stars was they didn't participate with membership of Lansing kids museum.
Jordan Reser
Super enjoyable! My 2 year old was very sad that we had to leave. Lots of different and fun interactive stations! A great place fo kids and adults too!
Maggie Klopschinski
This is such a great place for families. We took our nearly two year old daughter on Mother's day and she had so much fun. They hand a bunch of hands on play centers to be explored at your own pace. I was expecting a ton of people and some roudy play but it was surprisingly calm and laid back. 5 Stars, will go again.
Alex Young
My kids love coming here. It can be a bit expensive if you don't have a membership, but it is absolutely worth coming to every once in awhile to just let the kids go wild and explore and learn and have fun.
Meegan Willi
We had an awesome time! I didn't ask when we got there, but it is free for a birthday child, and they get a little free prize. (They were willing to refund me if I had paid, I actually had a pass so she had already gotten in free!) My daughter was turning 3 and we spent a rainy few hours here with her 8 month old sister and three busy cousins (1, 3, and 6). There are just so many cool toys to play with. Since it was a Thursday during March and not Spring Break :) - it wasn't too busy. We went right about 12:30 and stayed for 2 hours or so and there weren't all that many people there. All of the employees were helpful and active.
Deja Mcherron
Awesome place to take the kiddos without spending a lot of money
Sarah Harrison
I started taking her first daughter there when she was 6 months old and she loved it. This is such an excellent place to take any child no matter the age. There's something for everyone. The only thing I wish I could change was the parking situation. There are a few spots available around the building and park next door with meters. Otherwise there is a large parking garage a few blocks down or a pay parking lot behind the building that is a little bit expensive.
Jenna Wheaton
Awesome place for kids! It is true some of the things are broken or worn, but my kids didn't seem to notice. Wasn't anything major that I saw. I took my 2 and 4 year olds there yesterday and they just tore through that place excited as can be. There is so much for them to do! They were thrilled. So I was happy. :] Will definitely go back.
Adam Kingsbury
We brought my 11 month old son, but I think I ended up playing with as many, if not more, of the exhibits as him. He and I both loved playing in the "kidstruction zone". I would use the foam bricks to build a wall and he would do what he does best and destroy it. After he would crawl through my wall we both would look at each, pause, then bust out laughing. I have a few memories of this place as a kid when my mom took me. I remember the bubble area and the sand table but I assume everything else has been upgraded over the years. This place was absolutely worth the trip and I can't wait until my son is a little older to enjoy the rest of the exhibits like i saw the older kids around him doing.
William “Chefbill79” Cruz
We have been here several times and had a great time. The staff here is and has been great with both my 2 and 9 year old. There were several employees playing with my kids. My son played with a staff member for a hour or more with the train sets building all different track options. My daughter played grocery store with a couple of staff members for a while and she loved it. Yes there is a lot of kids but I mean it is called the children museum after all. Yes it can get chaotic at times however I feel as it is not a museum problem as much is it is a parental problem. I have read several of these reviews and I can't say that I agree with them. (except the one about it being a place for stay at home moms to dump their kids and hang out on their phones, but again not a museum problem) My family and I love this place and WILL be back soon.
Rob Yamashita
Great venue for children and parents. It's fun, entertaining and a change of pace. This place encourages kids to be creative and explore. Pricing encourages parents to by an annual membership.
Speaking of membership. It's a fantastic value. It includes guest passes and monthly deals at affiliate sites.
If you dislike noise, bubbles, bright lights and other people's kids occasionally, well, being kids...stay away.
Brian Getchel
Pretty small and underwhelming compared to others we've taken our kids to. Also they had half of it closed while they were redoing the carpets and still charged us full price. It's great to have a place to take kids to explore but it could be better
Kaitlyn Smith
Great for kids! The exhibits were awesome. Only reason I can't give 5 stars is because parking is so hard to find. I am a breast feeding mother and they had a sign up saying basically they have a room if you prefer privacy but breastfeeding is fine anywhere. I love having a choice.
Nathan
Great little museum. Pretty quick visit but good for the price.
Matt Kauffman
Our kids had fun there, but at ages 11, 9, 7, & 5, it didn't take long before they were done. Probable best geared towards that 3-9 year old range. Not quite as big as I thought it'd be but still enough to do for a few hours. Not a full day type of place.
The Traveling Rose
An awesome hands-on kids museum ( also for adults as seen in the photo I posted lol). The area was actually very reflective of the businesses around and gave children a realistic but playful view of what surrounds them. My daughter loved making pizzas in the play kitchen which looked so realistically like a pizza kitchen , so cool.
Jacob Gilliam
Took my nephew here not long ago and he loved it! They have lots of different areas for the kids to play in like a lego table, musical instrument section. If you have a day to waste with your kid, I'd definitely recommend going here.
Perry-David van Dillen
Great for kids of all ages, but especially kids under 12. Highly recommend for young families. Avoid bringing a stroller if possible. If you must bring a stroller make sure it has a small footprint. Don't bring a side by side stroller as you'll have trouble navigating. You'll be able to navigate fine with a smaller stroller or an umbrella stroller, but a baby carrier would be the best choice for crawlers and younger. If your kid can walk try to avoid bringing a stroller. Unless you're visiting on the weekend or after 5pm on Thursday (they offer reduced fee family nights on Thursdays) you should plan to bring plenty of change for parking. Nearby parking runs about $1.50 per hour and can be difficult to find at certain times. Make it a more well-rounded experience for your family by choosing alternative transportation options. Consider taking the bus or riding your bicycles.
Kathleen Gill
Staff was super friendly and helpful. You're allowed to bring outside food and drinks. Spent about 2 and a half hours there and kids enjoyed the whole time! Can get very crowded and hard to keep tabs on your kid when it's like that. Would recommend bringing back up if you have multiple children.
Chris Thiemens
Fun place my kids loved it. They're two and four. it can be a little expensive because you have to pay for adults as well as kids. But they have a family night once a week that makes it only a couple bucks. They also change up the attractions frequently enough so that my kids don't seem to get bored of it
Phing Chov
Great place to take young children. Lots of activities for kids to play with. The place is chaos, but in a good way. Kids are running around everywhere and toys are spread out on the floors. Plenty to do for boys and girls. Don't worry, they keep everything as clean as possible, but if you want, you can always bring some alcohol wipes.
Jim Gilbert
Took my 5 and 7 year old there for the first time and they loved it! Easy to find. Parking was a challenge. We parked in a lot that was close and it was rather expensive. Its $8.50 entrance fee for each person to get into the museum. Staff was friendly. Place was clean. 2 stories of things your kids wont be able to stop playing with. We look forward to going back again.
Kathleen LaRoue
My 3 year old liked it a bunch. There is lots to do for all ages, even a tummy time area for babies. The gift shop, however wasn't all that great. Lots of cheap toys, like beanie babied, but not much that were like the ones they played with in the museum, like trains, Legos, etc.
Samantha Popilek
Awesome place. Better to go first thing in the morning because it's a little messy in the afternoon, but that's understandable and kids really don't care that it's not completely organized by midday. Plenty of fun exhibits for all types of interests. Not too crowded either. Clean facility. Fair amount of parking nearby, just a few on the street right outside of the museum. Overall fun experience.
Jme Cole
I have a 16 month old. He had a great time wondering around and exploring everything. There were A LOT of children here today but we really didn't have to wait to experience any of the activities. Nice sized place.
Austin Graff
Our three-year-old daughter LOVED the Children's Museum. It's a two-story building in downtown Grand Rapids open every day except for Mondays and open late on Thursdays. It cost $9 for people 1-64 (under 1 is free and there's a senior discount).
The bottom floor has a small kid area, sandboxes, games, a real store to buy toys, and a fake grocery store for kids to shop in. There's also stuffed animals, race cars, a kitchen, etc. Our daughter spent most of her time here.
The top floor has more science like exhibits and a workshop with free daily programs. When we went, our daughter made a little medallion.
After two hours, we walked to Two Beards Deli for lunch!
Rebecca Merten
Beat part of out vacation. Kids loved it. And the least stressful part just to watch them take the lead and do what felt right to them(: will be back again soon!!!
Md Islam
Cool place is Michigan to spend a few hours with kids. So much activities for kids and enjoyed a lot. super clean place and friendly employees
Jennifer Diaz
My son loves coming here!!! There is so much for kuds to do ans explore!
Rebecca Mulder
Chaotic crazy place but oh what fun for children and some adults! A lot of toys geared towards imagination, building and drawing. Beware it get so busy there and really loud. I still highly recommend going there. It's fun to build Legos with your kids and who doesn't love playing with bubbles!!
Heidi George
This was our first visit since 2019 and although a lot of things are simpler, all the kids had a good time and enjoyed having a lot of space to be creative and play.
Luke Elkins
If you're spending the weekend in GR and you have kids this is a wonderful place to go. It's priced fair, is clean, has helpful staff, and the exhibits are great. I have a 5 and 3 year old and every time we go they want to when we'll be back.
Nelynn Rodriguez (Nena)
Took my kids and they loved it.... they always change the museum so it never gets bored....
Elizabeth Lee
Perfect for mimicking real life for toddlers. Lots of things to do from playing grocery shopping, veterinarian, hospital, to construction worker. Also a small area for sand play. Maybe more of a big play place rather than a well balanced, interactive museum. All the exhibits seemed to rely mostly on the parents to explain/educate versus anything being instructional or labeled. There was a small area for infants, but the safe space for tummy time was smaller than a kiddie pool and was much too disheveled and grimy for me to utilize.
Emily Hayward
So many great activities for a variety of ages.
Short Gorilla
We. Love. The. Children's museum. My kids always have a blast, they rotate installations so you can see new things and the kids can play in different environments. They have a big bee hive. Adults have fun here too.
Patrick Robbins
Choas? Yes. Did my kids have a blast? Yes. We had just come off a day at the Indianapolis Children's Museum, and the Grand Rapids Children's Museum is not the same animal. Our kids are 7 yrs, 4 yrs and 20 months. There were developmentally appropriate activities for all of them. I had read the negative reviews about messiness and the chaos at this museum, and I found that while it was messy, and some of the exhibits were being renovated, the mess was not prohibitive of children being creative in play and having a good time. As an occupational therapist, I was very happy to see that the exhibits were also accessible and being enjoyed by children of all abilities, as well. I recommend this place whole-heartedly, although I did wish that staff were more interactive with the children and/or facilitating the children being responsible with keeping the exhibits more in order.
Robert Smedley
Good place to let kids explore. Not sure I would call in a museum as much as a kid mad house. Would have given it higher if they wouldn't charge parents or maybe only a few dollars for parents. The parents are just there watching their kids no using stuff. If you need both parents to watch multiple kids it can get pricey. They do have a good selection of exhibits to keep the kiddos entertained.
Chris Cordes
This a very solid children's museum if not a great one. There are a lot of activities and areas and each one is done well. We spend most of the day there and my kids were entertained throughout. The only downside is the parking is a bit of a challenge, since there is no direct parking area. There was also not a really good place to have lunch at the museum- it was raining the day we were there so outside was not an option. Overall, highly recommend.
Claire Vanderwest
Amazing facility! Did my project on Diversity in my home city, and as a preschool educator, loved every minute!! It's an wonderfully rich and full museum. So much activity and life in every room. A must see for any kids in the area!
Kyle Grusling
The children's museum is a great place to let your kiddos run around and explore, especially on a rainy day. They change things up so it doesn't get boring, but favorites like the bubble table, sand table and pretend grocery store are always there. It's a great way to spend an hour or more!
Jessica Beauchamp
Lot's of neat things for children to do, including special arts and crafts activities as well. I liked the large interactive areas they had, including the doctor area that seemed to have very real-like equipment. Can be a little loud and overwhelming with the amount of kids - so bring or take headache medicine beforehand and be prepared for child overload! They do have 3-hour-long meters out front but there's also a lot off of library street that offers parking at $10 per day. Huge plus is that they offer a military discount. 😊
Andrew Maynard
Many fun activities for children age 1-14. Restrooms with changing tables available. There is also a nursing nook. My only complaint is the facility does not have staff walking around putting toys away during the day to keep it neat.
DeAnna Nelson
Great place for you to come and enjoy! The kids will love all the great activities that they have. Always something new and exciting when ever we go.. must go during artprize when you can see the kids excitement from the people who are walking around the town enjoying themselves and the artwork.
Kristi Graham
Excellent place to take kids! There are things for toddlers to do all the way up to about 12 years old. There is a place for little ones to play with toys there size. They have so many different stations to explore and learn, it will keep your little ones busy for a long time. The only downside is that it can get very crowded on the weekends. Great place overall!
deb Payne
Great place, my kids loved going. Just sucks that you have to find a place to park. As a mother of small children, it sucks when you get there and can't find something close by and have to try and walk 3 blocks with the little ones. They should have special spots up front for people with small children. I wouldn't have minded the walk, but we went when it was really cold out.
Mitchell Repp
This place is awesome for kids 1 year to 10 years old. As a parent, our son did not want to leave the first time we visited here. Parking was easy to find at the lot to the rear of the building. There are plenty of activities geared toward all different ages.
Jessica Fields
My daughter had a blast here! And with an EBT card you get a discount. Super nice.
Kaleigh Conly
Great place. We had 2 adults and 3 kids ages 2, 6 and 9. Everyone was entertained. We stayed about 2.5 hours and would have played longer if we weren't ready for lunch.
Jesse Stout
We took our 1 1/3 year old son. It's a little pricey, and I wouldn't recommend this place to parents with kids under 2. Nothing personal, it's just so overwhelming for them. Saw some other parents having the same problem. On the other hand, I can't wait til my son is a little older to go back! It's a lot of fun!
Betsy Anders
I had a few days to steal away while my husband was in town for buisness. My kids are 3,5 and 7. We were there for 2 hours and could have spent 2 more. The craft they did that day was a Christmas ornament picture frame. It was fantastic. So much packed into a small space. I have been to Indianapolis children's museum and I actually prefer this because it's doable in a couple hours and much cheaper. Bring change for close meter parking! Blanket fort structure, bubble station, grocery pretend and sand box were just a few of our favorites! I also liked that we could walk to dining after and they offered a map to show options! Elevators available for handicap access to second floor and a nursing corner!
Jacob Van Antwerp
Eh, not too bad. I only had a tour of the place. I haven't been there since I was little. It looks much different than when I used to go there! They even had a dinosaur exhibit! I'm always welcome to bring my younger cousins with me, they said!
Steph Sneller
A must visit for anyone with kids in western MI. While some exhibits rotate, staple ones like Little GR, Wee Land, bubbles, music, and legos are always popular with my kids. The staff is incredible as well with their interactions and engaging the kids. They also have fantastic day camps during the summer.
PG Rated
Toddler heaven!
Just got a family annual membership as a Christmas gift and my 2 year old LOVES it...in fact I thought I lost her as soon as I went to check in because she was reveling in all the wonderful stations they have there, the cool yellow car was her 1st wonder (takes after her dad I suppose).
She absolutely loved the bubble and sand stations and there's just SO much for kids to do there from toddler up. Can be germ central and I do not recommend for babies, but if you have a baby also, wear them in a carrier and bring hand sanitizer and wipes. I make sure my daughter washes her hands when we leave and change her clothes at home (tis flu season!).
They have a very small gift shop behind the front register area and coat hanging area, and bathrooms.
I knocked off a star because parking can be a challenge, especially during peak times and winter when you might have to walk a bit. Parking options include paid street parking, I just signed up for the Motu app as I used all my quarters my 1st visit. There are a some paid parking lots in the area including the Main library. It can also get quite chaotic in there when busy. There are 2 levels and it is a relatively small space when you compare to say the GR Public museum John Ball Zoo or Meijer Gardens where we typically have annual memberships. There is plenty of seating for the parents throughout the upstairs area which is nice, especially when you are pregnant and tired. Just be careful not to lose your kid!
micah schreur
This place is loads of fun. I spent three hours here with my 2 year old and he loved everything they had. Love music and dancing, large blocks to build castles, and old vw bug to drive, doctor's offices, dentist, surgery rooms, grocery store, Banks, sand tables, magnet tables, climbing wall, giant tree house, garden, and more. Totally going again
Elise Garber
What a phenomenal museum! We had a fantastic time with our 3-year-old son. So much to do from the second you walk in the door. Wonderful options to engage any age.
Angie Russell
The kids loved it here!!!!:)
Stephanie Mcglathery
It says up to ten years old. My kids are 6 and 7 and I felt like they were too old for most of the activities. Still had a good time. Just feel like it's aimed for younger children.
Curtis T
The kids always enjoy themselves, not really much of a museum of any sort. Very hands on place for the kids to play, they have lego, giant bubble making devices and places to climb and explore. This place is much more suited for toddlers and kindergartners.
Keri Throneberry
This place is just awesome, I came with my employer and am unaware of entrance fee or membership, there was every possible employment position/adult activity children are curious about available to try and entertain themselves with, as well as childhood entertainment as well! They had medical equipment, a full construction site, bubble area, craft room with a structured craft and staff to assist. VERY special place!!!
Rob M
Great place for kids, very affordable. A lot of hands on stuff to keep them busy for hours. It is a place to spark imagination and engineering techniques. Building blocks large and small. Full on medical, mechanical, grocery shopping ( where kids can plan for dinners, so fun to watch), bubbles, puppet show, and so much more.
Lisa George
Loved it! Would have given five stars had the setup. Been a little more equipped for children who are above average size and height. If. Your kids are normal size and. Not. Giants like. Mine, you'll. Have. A blast though. I suggest the human size bubble. Machine. 😂 …
Jacob Cipcic
A great place to take the kids. I really appreciate all of the rotating exhibits. The staff there is friendly and kind. A great place for kids to interact and play. Also their pricing is cost-effective especially if you buy a family pass for the year.
Sharon Timmerman
My family has a family pass. So it nice because we can pop in and out as much as we want. The other thing I like about the Grand Rapids Children Museum is that they change their learning area about once a month. So it's always a new adventure.
Brian L
My 16 mo told twins had a blast here. The museum accommodates kids of all ages. There are 2 floors, the first has a mini grocery store (Meijer sponsored) complete with shopping carts, check out lanes, and food shelves for kids to learn about. It also has a play area with an area for kids about 3' and shorter, to keep them out of the big kids' way. There second floor has a hospital section and several other learning stations. There were employees stained all around to help out and explain things. There were even 2 employees with a smaller and a tortoise for kids to touch and learn about.
There is limited on site parking.
Hannah Gilliam
My kiddos love to go here. Ages range from 4yo to 9yo and they all enjoy the time spent! Super fun for me too because we don't have to worry about being messy - it's allowed! :-)
Dave Deserati
Fantastic for the kids. Our kids noticed that the flip-up bench storage hasn't been cleaned in a long time, and some other opportunities of cleanliness seemed lacking but likely due to the high volume they see every day.
Tim Schott
The Children's Museum is a true gem! My only regret is that it didn't exist when I was a child. But as an adult, you can recapture your youth while visiting with your children - or, in my case, grandchildren! I would suggest you get a membership so as to "reduce" the cost of attendance as it's not a cheap - dollars & cents - expense. The return on the investment though is like the commercial says... Priceless!
Holly Marckini
My kids love going here, I just wish they would let you reserve your time. That way you are not stuck waiting out in the cold to enter
Jason Alt
One of the better Children's Museums I have been to. I felt like the cost to attractions ratio wasn't the best and I say that knowing how much overhead a museum has and how reliant they are on donations. Overpaying to get in is one way to support the museum. I don't mind paying a little more but I felt like there wasn't quite enough inside to justify both the expense and a 5-star review. I'm not saying don't go - go if you have a kid between 2 and 6.
Miliana Johnson
Our kids are starting to age out, but it's a fantastic place for children under, say, 9. Children with sensory issues or sensitivity to loud noises or crowds should visit when the place is relatively empty. It can get really loud and overwhelming, even for adults!
Mike Golczynski
I've taken both of my boys here numerous times during their young lives. They have always found ways to be engaged and play. I don't know what people are expecting from a children's museum, but it's obvious that some reviewers here who complain that it's not "Educational" enough don't understand that children learn best when they are actively engaged in play both with adults and with their peers. I would agree that it is a bit expensive with multiple children for what amounts to a 1-2 hour visit. My only other complaint would be that after the age of 7 or 8, most of the exhibits really begin to lose their appeal. This museum is definitely geared toward the preschool/kindergarten crowd
Wizzle Wii
I liked this place. Just so many people and I swear these parents need to do better job of watching their kids. It can get crowded but my kids had fun and becoming a member gives you access to other facilities each month for free and you can bring guests
Ben Sunderman
Perfect hands on experience for my 1.5 year old. If I loved closer, I would have a membership and be here once a week.
Jeff Tondreau
Our kids always have a blast visiting the museum. Tons of great activities to satisfy just about and child ( and adults too!). We are from out of town and visit about once a year, seems like they make changes ever so often which is perfect!
Ryan Buikema
I loved this museum, as did my 5 year old! We both had a good time as the activities allow for interaction from both parents and children. Our favorites were the beehive under a glass case connected to the outside with a tube, you can safely observe bees making their honey and going about their colony business. We also loved the giant bubble station, giant Lite Brite, actual car garage with a car and gas pump to play on, a mock hospital and supermarket, and the giant foam building block area. There are many more things to do than that! We will be going back many times.
Lisa Roberts
Went here on a field trip. The kids had a great time and there is plenty to do. There are a lot of aspects of GR in the museum. Very loud (obviously, there are tons of kids) so be prepared, and have fun too.
Matthew Meyer
This place was very well built. And I enjoyed the "work play" feeling it had. How ever I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more structure d play. I mostly felt like a giant indoor park, rather than a musium. And the toys they had avilabul had really no time or reason to them other then the fact that they all were emergancy resuce jobs. All in all, it's simply a better chuck cheese with out the prizes.
JP Griffin
This place is very nice for children to come and DO things. There are realistic areas like a grocery store, post office, etc. that lets kids play and socialist.
I'm a bit confused by the "museum" in the name, because I wouldn't consider it that. However, we took two 6 & 7 year olds and they had a blast.

My daughters favorite place in grand rapids. Always a fun time.
Zac Blodgett
This is a great place! Lots of thing to do for young kids and plenty of stuff to learn. Reasonably priced in a great area of Grand Rapids. A must do for an hour or two of fun for your family
Nick Kish
We visited shortly after they reopened in 2021. The kids had a blast. The staff was polite and accommodating. Lots for the kids to do.
Connie Wierenga
This Children's Museum is always a favorite of our familys'. Along with many activities, especially the body-sized bubble-maker, there are special visitors/activities. Our grandkids got to enjoy a very engaging silly-singer (what one of them called him) and can't wait to go back!
Sandi
I love, love the GRCM! My kids and I have such great memories of this place, if you have a kid age 1-8, you have to take them! It's always changing, the kids will have no problem finding something fun to do: bubbles, the spin table, dinosaurs, construction area, magnets, light up table, books, toys, play food, penguins, pretend vet clinic, dress us clothes and a little stage even the see thru elevator is fun!
If you have money to burn, an annual membership is worth it (they have member only Mondays and other perks). If you don't have money to brun, they have discounts for seniors, school faculty members, GRCC students, active military family members. The only night they're open is Thursday night, when they have a deep discounted admission. And they have a discounted rate for low-income families (with an EBT or WIC card)
TIP: The GRCM is downtown, so parking is tricky, bring quarters for the meter, and if you don't have to bring a stroller, don't. The museum is closed on Mondays, and the most busy time is on the weekends. If you want to go during a slow time, go to their website, look at the field trip calendar, and go when they don't have a field trip. Definitely stay away during spring break and other holiday breaks, when they are super busy
It's also a fun place for a birthday party, it's not really staffed, they pretty much give you a little room and the kids take off and play, but it's easy.
Brittany Price
Awesome exhibits, so much to explore. My children are 9 months, 2y, 4y, 8y & 11 years old and there was something for all of them to enjoy. I would recommend going before they close because it's hard to get the kids to leave lol
Judy Bradstrom
This is a wonderful place for kids. Plan on staying for several hours. Took my grandsons 2 ,3, and 10 and none of them wanted to leave after 4 hours. Definitely a big thumbs up.
Krystal Pryor
Took my older kids here (10 years & 12 year) thinking it was similar to the Hands On Museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Come to find out it's more focused towards the younger kids; which isn't a bad thing but would've liked to have been informed at the front desk.
Jennifer Young
Kids had a great time! There are a lot of different areas with great pretend play. They didn't seem to mind the mess or general chaos, but it did ware on me a little.
angela sanders
Awesome place to take small children. A very interactive place for kids. Love the idea a museum where little ones can touch and play and be entertained. They do need to have some type of parking area or validate the parking tickets
Elizabeth Lind
I had so much fun here with my nieces and nephews while visiting from out of town. However, I would definitely leave children 10 and up at home. This facility definitely caters to younger children.
gabe s
Our daughter who is almost 2 loved it!!! It was actually a struggle to leave LOL. One of the only places that is open later during the week so the whole family is able to go. Love it! So much fun!
keith drinkard
Our daughter loved the experience. So much to learn and explore there. Great place for children to explore and be creative. Parents will have as much fun too!
Ryan McClymonds
The children's museum has 2 floors of fun for kids. The activities are fun for all ages of kids, even toddlers. The staff was very nice and it was a great way to spend a Sunday! Open in winter too 😁 …
Reynaldo Soto (Rey)
Our grandaughter loved it, but maybe our mistake was to go on a cold snowy Saturday day full of screaming little ones, adult playing with toys while kids waited patiently for their turn, and shoulder to shoulder with helicopter parents. Next time will try a weekday!
JAMIE Montero
This place is amazing. Our son was so happy and full of wonder the whole time he was here. They have so much for your children, it'd be hard for them to get bored I think.
Samatha Townsend (Boobie)
My Chucka girly loves it there
Roger Bacon
Very small for a museum, but it was clean and kids had fun. Kind of light on the education part, it basically just a big play room. The operating room was the best part, kids had a blast playing Dr.
Wendy Dunn
I had never been before and was blown away! What a great way to spend an afternoon! My little was very entertained and really enjoyed herself! My favorite part was their bee hive! How absolutely cool!!!!
Brianna Leson
The staff is sooo friendly, and we never leave disappointed. We highly recommend the membership!
Fred Apeaning
Good experience at Grand Rapids Children Museum.
Jonathan Jesse
The Children's Museum is a great place in Grand Rapids to take you children and burn off some energy either due to being stuck inside too long during winter or on a rainy day.
They have great hands on exhibits and encourage learning through play. Recommend going there with your family
Adam Peld
Awesome place for the kids to play. They loved ever minute they were there. You could spend the whole day there playing. The place is very clean and the staff is beyond helpful.
thomas Shelder
This place is fantastic for kids and parents alike! There are dozens of stations scattered around to build with, play with, and interact with. After 3 hours my kids weren't ready to leave!
Gina Weeks
It was ok. Our 4 year old liked it, but we thought there would be more things for him to do. Not a lot of learning opportunities, basically just an indoor play place.
Michael-Jay Williams - Realtor
The exhibits need to be “reset” more often. Visited between 3-5 pm. on a Thursday when the Museum has evening hours till 8 pm. It was hard for the kids to enjoy the exhibits when all the item necessary are scattered about. Only staff was one at the door, on behind front counter.
jennifer johnson
A really great children's museum. My only complaint would be that there should be assigned eating places inside the museum. Kids were snacking everywhere and food was scattered all over the floors. Popcorn, broken crackers etc. So the food was getting in the play areas. Otherwise great hands on exhibits.
zombiem00se
Lots of cool things for little ones to do, lots of fun
Nathan Wright
Absolute blast visiting here! Tons of cool exhibits for the kiddos. A really cool layout, too.
We particularly liked the beehive, but honestly, the whole place was a lot of fun.
Josh Stewart
Very wonderful place to take children. Part of the museum is a rotating there and the rest is still always a lot of fun for children. A lot of stimulus and a safe environment. Who doesn't like playing with gaint bubbles
Carissa Hardy
I love taking the kids here. The admission is reasonable. I also like that they have an admission program for low income families and the dollar family nights. Great place for a kids to roam and have fun.
K D
If you live in the area (we don't) it's a nice place to kill some time with fun things to do with kids, but place is pretty small. If you're going to drive a ways would recommend Ann arbor children's museum
Mary Grace Guild
Clean, safe, and fun! A little crazy when schools visit, but worth it. Been coming for years with the kids I care for, and it's always a hit. I love that they change things up pretty consistently.
Brittney Cook
I loved this place as a child and now Im able to bring my children here! Amazing place, so many things to do, so many things to look at. You could spend a whole day here and never be bored!
MF P
I personally would like to see better security at the doors considering most parents just sit down and let their kids run around. My kids had alot of fun. Didn't really "learn" anything. I think there needs to be more history things or dinosaur things or something that teaches. Not just pretend grocery stores. I did see some of the employees sanitizing often so that's a plus for me. My son really enjoyed the bee "exhibit" where you can see the queen. The only reason we like it so much is b.c an employee came over to talk and she was telling us all about it. If she wasn't there, we wouldn't have known much about it. So other than lacking on the learning part of it I thought it was pretty good.
Jason Brooks
Awesome place that anyone with a little one should visit. Lots of fun and interactive exhibits that will help nurture your child's creativity. There's even an area for babies to play in.
Jackie Baker
I love bringing my kids here! Its a pretty laid back place and all the staff and volunteers are super nice and friendly! Only set back is extremely limited meter parking near museum.
Sarah Smith
Its always a welcoming place to come play with my kids, even nearing the end of the day when employees are tired they keep their smiles on and let my littles help clean up. Its a wonderful exhibit.
Kathy W
We have been to larger Children's museums when we lived near Baltimore MD. This one is moderate in comparison, but worth it for the price. Good experience. Kept my 5 year old and my 8 year old highly engaged.
Nate Langel
Loads of variety of activities and toys for our daughter to play and learn with. The space gets rearranged on a regular basis. Admission cost might be a bit steep but for us the membership is worth it.
L to the B
Great place for kids to play in situations that mimic real life. For example, a cashier at a grocery store, working at a post office, in a bank. There are also areas in which kid can puzzle thinks out with gigantic mouse trap type puzzles, Legos galore, huge bubbles, a gigantic Lite-Brite. There are so many things kids can do you will have to check it out for yourself.
John Huisman
Awesome hands on place for all kids!
Christina Albertson
My son absolutely loves this place. It is 100% hands on for kids and has two floors for them to explore and play. If it wasn't for nap time and lunch time, we would stay all day.
Debra Minnich
Such a fun location. My 4yr old and 1 yr old loved it there. We spent 2 hours there and could have easily spent another 2 hours. Such a great and interactive place.
Ryan Walsh
I haven't been here since before the pandemic, bit it seems like they are doing things really right. I constantly see staff sanitizing surfaces and cleaning. I'll be coming back often!
Michael Reed
Sooo much fun for the Kiddos. They have a great staff. If you go more than 2 times a year, get the Membership. The have planned crafts and activities. Amazingly well done!
Anthony Pearce
Awesome place to take younger kiddos. No one seemed to mind if you brought in a coffee or snacks.
Nate Bourassa
Nice place with activities for the kiddos. It is very career oriented and doesn't offer much in the way of science or technology exploration. Looks like everything was donated by businesses trying to recruit checkout attendants and construction workers.
Brittany Allen
Fantastic for young kids. My three-year-old had so much fun. Good amount of staff, a wide array of areas to explore!
Jeni
Very fun and interactive. My 2 yrs old niece enjoyed every activity.
Lien Zemog
Very cute and fun. It's worth going to but they need to make this place bigger as it gets very crowded and parents sometimes let their kids go do whatever.
Rockford Wigger
Great place for kids. Tons to do.
Jannet Zuno
Very fun for the kids, so much to do.
J K (Learning Curve)
So much fun for all ages. There's a lot to do in a little space. The cost gets expensive though. $8.50 for all ages 1 and older and parking can be difficult as well and can get costly depending on how long you're there.
Cathy Boyle
Used to take my kids often, just took my niece and nephew, such great memories, and it's even better now! We were there for two hrs, and could have spent more!
Trina Marsh
The kids had a blast here so much to do and alot of imaginative play and they can have fun and be creative and get crazy! They love it!
Mike Johnson
It was pretty cool, definitely rated for under 10, but everyone still had a good time. The kids loved the bubble area, and the wheel of wheels.
Mitchell Leach
This place is great. The have a bubble machine that encompasses a full person. There are so many things to keep busy. Truly, I'm not sure who had more fun, my son or I.
Jose Jesus Alonzo
My 3 year old and i have such a blast!!!!!! So fortunate to have such an interactive environment here in our town!!!! We take the bus there just for kicks!!!!!! After all that action, hmy babyboy takes a great nap!!!!!! Lol
Jessica Bullen
Fun place to take kids to my niece and nephew loved it there may have to go again.
Karen M. Jones
Our kids from Project Focus had a Ball! They loved it!
Paul White
Love this place. Always exciting to watch my son be creative. He loves playing with all the others. Too much fun... Bring your camera!
Tina Brakic
We had so much fun!!! My daughter was busy for more than two hours, playing in different areas. Such great experience for her!
Tiffany M.
I have bought my daughter the membership since she was 2 years old. This is a great place to spend an hour or more exploring and letting your own inner child be free.
Aita Wellington
We took our 4 year old and our 1 year old and all 4 of us had an absolute blast!
We had a picnic accross from museum right at the park and then walked to the museum and we had so much fun
Shannon DeMarsh
What an amazing place for kids. Strongly disappointed there wasn't a place designated to eat or a place that sold hot coffee. This children's museum is so big my kids could easily spend most the day there if they were just having snacks.
Google User
Way over priced. My son has a blast but for three adults and one kid it was almost $40. It would be nice if someone walked around tidying up as well.
Melissa Miller
Came here from out of town and had a wonderful experience! My daughter loved it and we spent hours here.
Scott Jonker
This place is a blast. Very interactive and fun for kids and parents alike. It's very popular though so get there early if school is on break.
Mandolin Cole
Pros:
good indoor playground for young kids on a bad weather day
Nice staff who try to keep it clean
Cons:
Good luck finding anywhere to park, especially if you're handicapped
It's really very small and not very educational, again, think indoor playground
Nothing for children much over 10-ish
Hailey Holliman
Haven't been here since I was 8 or 9 so I took my 4 year old & she LOVED it. 🥰 …
Tristan Foust
My 15 month old loved it. Ran around freely and I had no anxiety at all because it is a place for children to enjoy. Will return.
Liz Laisure
Great place for younger children! Staff is very friendly. Popular place for field trips. Check their website if you are going independently to see what schools might be there that day!
Joseph Daley
Way more then I expected. The construction in the area made it tough to park with little kids.
Jonathon Woloshuk
Nice little museum, generally clean. A little small for the number of people there. Really my biggest complaint is some parents seem to drop their kids off and play in their phones instead of parenting.
Nicole Newton
We love this place, but due to distance and pricing it's not something we can do as often as we would like. Definitely should be on your bucket list with young kids though!!
Amanda Hays
This place is amazing for kids and the young at heart. Keep a tight hold on your though, there are tempting displays everywhere they look, and th they may have a hard time sticking to one thing for long.
Desiree Adkins
So much fun for the kids!
Lacey Smith
Small wait outside in a line but once inside it's action packed and filled with fun
Joy M
Insanely crowded (went on a Friday). It was nice (expensive though). Metered parking is so much (25 cents only gets you 20 min) and I barely had enough change to be there an hour or so. Did I mention crowded? Buses just kept pulling up and emptying out.
Krisi Santos
Kids had a blast! Was nice to just let them run around and not have to worry they are breaking things!! Designed for kids with learning involved! Perfect!
Jahon R.
My girls love this place!
Danielle Veldman
Got a membership from my in-laws for Christmas, best gift ever. My son is a year and a half and I can hardly get him to leave when we go he loves it so much :-)
TJ B
Great price lots of fun for the kids
DB
For my first visit this was very entertaining. A little on the pricey side, and try to stay away from peak hours. Kids of all ages get in traffic accidents. Friendly staff.
amanda Etchison
My son had the best time
Kylie Ordway
There were so many fun activities for kids of all ages. We could spend hours here every week. The facility was very clean as well.
Rebecca Clark
Fun & educational - great place for younger kids & families.
Kristal Koss
This was a great hands on experience for my 3 yr old grandbaby. He loved it so much he made me promise to bring him again. The price is also fair.
Veronica Seaman
They need a system to help insure kids don't get snatched. Maybe like chuckie cheese hand stamp. Otherwise it was lots of fun and my daughter loved it
Jacqueline Scherer
Engaging space, staff and stations! One of the best we have experienced in the USA!
John Gustafson
Excellent place for kids. Better than most children's museums. A possible area of improvement could be to wall or fence in the tiny children's area. Fun for all ages.
Keegan J. Chalker
All the staff I met here is really good with children, they always have new and fun stuff for the kids to do. My daughter loves going here.
Amy Lewis
So many great activities for all ages!
Barb Lomonaco
Excellent place for kids. A ton of hands on fun. Masks are required but that's fine by me
Srijan Murmu
This place will keep your kids busy, so many things to do and learn...overall good time-pass. However if you are going to watch the dinosaurs, its a waste of time!!
Colleen Merkins
We always love visiting the museum! The kids like the ever changing exhibits. The construction zone and box forts were a favorite this visit! They always love shopping too!
Amanda Vander Klok
Fun for the kids. Not so fun if there are field trips from daycare or schools because they don't watch the kids and the big kids end up in little kid areas and push little kids around but if you can go when there aren't field trips it is fantastic!
Lyanna Moore
My daughter always has a lot of fun here. She enjoyed the new constitution exhibit and I liked the sensory room they were testing.
Chris Botruff
This was an entertaining and educational museum to visit. Centered largely on creating learning environments for children to play. Kids over 12 may be less Interested than younger kids.
Toon Win
They have a lot of fun activities for the kids to do but they are quite small, with only two floors. The bubbles seem to be a huge hit.
Seth Gilbertson
So much fun not just for kids but for grownups too! A million different things for kids to be interested in, lots of pretend play stuff, great area for little little ones too.
V Man
Very fun place, my family and I really enjoyed ourselves!! Some improvements being made. A little costly but they do offer various discounts.
reggie cumming
So much fun and lots to learn
39
Lots of activities to keep the kids busy, most areas clean and well maintained. An excellent way to play and learn with family for a day.
Paul Cooper
Great Place and Alot of Fun... it is messy But gotta expect that with hundreds and hundreds of kids coming theuban Hour.. Gift shop is Nice.. Daughter loves the Aarons Scented Putty... And got a Flipezze... We will be Back.. B+ to A-

Great place for kids to have fun
Brian Rush
Awesome place for to entertain and educate your young children. They have mock construction site, grocery store, cafe, hospital and so much more. Highly recommended.
Nancy Medacco
This is a great experience and a must see if you're anywhere near it. All hands on for children of all ages. So many things to do it was a blast
Mardy Cutrara
I hadn't been in years. Took my grandson and had so much fun. I really enjoyed the improvements and the super friendly staff.
COMEBACK FORME
Not sure what I expected, but it was just beyond all expectations! I don't believe they missed a thing any child could imagine... Except time with dad and/or mom, alone uninterrupted. They nailed it!
John Murphy
Always a Great Place to bring the children, never a bad experience. Been visiting for years and with them switching up the displays and exhibits never he same thing twice.
Todd Davis
This place rocks! So much for kids to do, like a mock gas station, grocery store experience and skills much more. The activities change often as well.
John Chapman
Good place to play. They rotate exhibits so there's usually something new. A bit pricey and centered on young kids.
Cassandra Linklater
A very fun place for younger children. Lots of play activities and some science things. Excellent for toddlers into Elementary age.
Daniel Andrella
Granddaughters had a great time even though it is a small venue compared to big city children museums.
Jason Devitt
Great place for hands on fun and imaginative play for young kids. Also fun for parents to connect with their inner child.
Kenley Pickering
Had a wonderful experience with the kids while visiting Grand Rapids from out of town. Spent the whole day and the kids (two and six) never got bored or ran out of fun stuff to do.
Naomi Iorga
GRCM is a great place for kids to let out their energy in a safe and educational environment...they have lots of fun stuff for kids of all ages and a daily special craft of some sort....they are constantly changing their displays and are very current and fun..I love comeing to grand rapids children's museum.
Susie and Jeremy Wiedemann
Great children's museum. Our kids didn't want to leave even after two hours. A little pricey but if you lived nearby it would totally be worth the money.
Jittly
It's very nice place for children. However, I didn't like that they even charge the parents if they want to be around their children.
Tina Dekker
Took my almost 5 yrs old son to see the dinosaur exhibit. He had a blast with them and all the every day activities.
Amanda Elmer
The entire staff is extremely friendly and they have so much to offer to keep your child entertained. My kiddo never wants to leave! 😁 …
Shiloh Ruiz
I always have a good time with little family members here. I've been going since I was little too. Always great memories!
david arkshob
Great place, expensive compared to other ones I have been to
tracie mashore-van harn
My children have always had a wonderful time at the museum. The exhibits are engaging and encourage them to use their imagination.
Amy Smith
Love this museum! Affordable and so many things for the kids to do!
Alexander Williams
Great for getting kids new experiences. Saw kids from 1 to 12 in there. Enjoyable for all ages.
Missy Irvin
So much for the kids to do. Parents can enjoy time With the kids. Loved the magic show. Definitely Will return if in the area.
Romey
The little guy had an amazing time. The place was constantly behind disinfected which was reassuring.
Jeffrey Light, ChSNC
Parking...
Not that I don't love having to drag a stroller, diaper bag, plenty of other miscellaneous supplies, and 2 kids under 5 for a half mile walk in the winter, but it sure would be nice to park on the same street as the museum once every ten or so trips there.
Goldie Vickers
Definitely worth the money, even with a 14 month old. Although I’d say my boyfriend and sister may have had more fun!
Chance Cooper
Highly recommended place after 5 on a weekday. When you just need to let the kids run and play bring them here and let yourself be stress free.
Michael Waldron
What a great environment to share with your children.
dave nienaber
Our 4 year old had an absolute blast.
Chris Andrews
Our 2 year old had a lot of fun here. Lots to do and a very kid friendly environment.
Carly Walters
Love it but its ALWAYS so packed and parents dont watch their kids so kids are constantly stealing toys out of other kids hands. Theres nothing GRCM can do about it, it just sucks.
Nicole Gonzalez
Great place for children! My son is 1 year old and had a great time playing.
Tina Kiggins
Went with my almost 2 year old grandson and it was a blast we had so much fun!!
Jacqueline Alimpich
The staff is friendly and helpful, always interacting with the kids. There are lots of activities, for a large age range, and skill levels.
Melissa
Our family loves the children's museum!! A must stop with kids in Grand Rapids; very hands on learning and lots of fun play :)
Matt Campbell
A very nice child-oriented place, with great customer service. And they are prepared to help special-needs kids. Impressed!
Hemant Thakkar
See the sweetest smile on children face for witch we are working hard for family and nation
nickolas velandia
The girls had a ball, but it wasn't quite what I expected, there are better childrens museum s that try to explain and teach more. This was more like a big playground with interesting stuff lying about
