We visited with our 4yo today and had a good time. Plenty of interactive things to occupy the hands and mind! Two adults and one child $39 for about 3 hours of fun. Far cheaper than a trip to the movies and not mind and butt numbing:)

This place is great. Spent hours there with our 6yo. They are doing a ton of renovations too so it will be amazing when it all gets done. We parked in the garage and paid $8 after having been there at least 5 hrs plus dinner downtown. We've been to a bunch of science centers and they generally all have similar stuff, but this one went above and beyond. Also the shows and planetarium were all included (not every one does it that way).

This has fun for everyone; young and old! Hands on learning and exploring. Live feeding of the snapping turtle was pretty cool. The exhibits change every so often and are usually relevant to current events; for example, they had "sock skating" during the winter Olympics. People could figure skate on a big slippery floor or try our the other lane for curling. Pretty awesome!

Loads of fun. Endless exhibits that are interactive experiences. Everyone had a good time and super place to engage the kids.

Went to go see the different things to do with some of my grandchildren. It turned out to be a great adventure for all of us. We liked it so much that I went ahead and bought the grandparent plus membership. My grandchildren were so happy to know that we would be going back again and again. They love it. We will definitely be going back so they can experience the things they didn't get to see on our first trip.

We attended one of the 21+ nights that included a murder mystery. Absolutely loved it. In addition to being able to do an escape room style activity, it was fun to explore the building's exhibits while having an adult beverage or two. We also saw the Iowa Night Sky and Fire Works shows, which were amazing. Julie was our presenter for both and she was equal parts brilliant and hilarious. She has a gift for explaining the world of science in an understandable way.

Great place to take kids. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the fire demonstration and videos in the Star Theater. I'm not sure if they are going through a redesign or not, but it seemed like there was a lot of wasted space and the gift shop was a little sad.

Cheap entertainment for the kiddos. $10 and we got 3-4 hours of activities. If you buy tickets online they're cheaper. Seems like they need more staff. Would be nice if some staff were around to corral the field trip that was there at the same time comprised entirely of older kids who were not nice to my 3 year old nor did I appreciate the language coming out of their mouth. Some more staff to clean the hands on activities as well, some were quite filthy.

Very cool place to visit with family. There are alot of hands on activies for young children. They currently have a Dinosaur exhibit going on. There are some live exhibits of local reptiles and a snapper turtle feeding show. The whole experience was fun. Will visit again.

The science center is one of our all time favorite places. It is great for a couple hour get out of the house trip. The new dinosaur exhibit is excellent.

Not worth the money spent to get in. Thought there would be more. Sitting area where you could watch the stars and etc was not handicap friendly. Laying on the floor is not my thing with 2 bad knees! I remember the old planetarium being really neat!

My 2 year old grandson had a blast & made the gift shop clerk laugh with his dinosaur roars! Definitely worth the 3 hour drive!!

This is a great experience for kids, so many hands on activities. Sparks critical thinking in science at each exhibit. If you're planning a trip to Des Moines with your kids, this is a must.

Our 8 and 4 year old had fun. It took about 2.5 hours to see what we wanted. The kids really liked the story time under the stars and the fire-works show.

Very good place to take kids. If you're Iowa resident and member of your city library. Your family visit can be free. Keep 3-4 hrs to enjoy this place.

My son loved it! He's almost 4 and we went this weekend for the first time. While we were still there he was already planning his next visit and asked if we could bring someone else with us next time we come. There was a lot of stuff he could interact with that he understood some or most of, and plenty of things that he was too young for. It's exciting to see that we can take him here for years to come and he'll be able to do more activities as he gets older.

It’s awesome! I loved it! Great for all ages. Loved the winter stuff. Like snowflakes and curling and the snowmen. I love how everything is super interactive. The little grocery store brought back such great memories. We loved the team building block bridge. That was so cool. And the leaf prints. We will definitely be back. Such a fantastic place. Great staff too super chill and nice.

Over the years the science center of Iowa has been losing permanent exibits such as the space related area, the energy generation area lost the watt output, the bat cave makes no sounds, the tornado machine is gone, there are other items missing. There used to be more daily shows, the hours of operation have been cut back.The planetarium used to automatically have shows or allow you to select. The imax movies appear to be permanently gone. The existing exhibits have not changed ore updated. The center was busy when I visited but usually over time you want to improve and change up your offerings not degrade them.

Went with my daughter and her family... We were there for about 3 hour's and the kids were into everything there!! It was amazing to watch these little ones and even the big 2 enjoy laughing and playing scientists together!!

It is a really nice place to take your kids. I think they should have more interactive exhibits and better gift shop options. Overall would definitely recommend that you visit.

You have to either pay for metered parking on the street or use parking garage which is $3 for the first hour and an additional dollar per hour afterwards.

Fun for kids, but would be nice if they changed things up once in awhile- always the same exhibits. Also, the traveling exhibits should be included in entry or at least on annual passes.

My son goes to the school at the science center and his experiences have been amazing. I would highly recommend this place to visit and to send your kids.

Overall a great place to bring children. Some of the exhibits are getting a little tired. They do seem to work hard to keep things working and add new exhibits.

Love it here!! I get to go about 1-2 times a year, and its always cool! Last time I was there I got to hold a small snake. Every time I go, even if I'm more on the tired end I go to the area that has all the space type stuff. It's always so mesmerizing!

I am very disappointed by the fact that I purchased our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids the TRI package as a Christmas present this year. I put in the email that it needed to be sent directly to me as this was a gift. I receive a message from my daughter and she asked if we had purchased them this membership as she had received an email with a digital membership enclosed. I contacted the Science Center, where we purchased this through and the response was that the would make an exception and refund the money just this once...Okay so that is like giving a gift to someone then saying haha just kidding we aren't really getting you that. I get things happen, I do, but if you have a new computer system and offer gifting options you should have all of that in place and functioning before just going for the gusto. I now have nothing to give to them as a family over Christmas so they will get to open nothing.

We went today 01/28/21 - It was fun... However, so many exhibits are closed or broken or not operational bc of covid? There was a lot to do but there was a “bummer” or two around every corner.

Some stuff is closed because "covid" but alot of stuff is open. Neat planetarium. They have weird hours and close for an hour in the middle of the day which is a bit odd.
