Very unique house for the time period!
The house has a good sized basement that initially housed the kitchen!
Lots of great history and stories linked to this home!
Terry Winters
Wonderful tour of a very beautiful historic home!!!

I learned more here about Iowa history in one day than many summers visiting Living History Farms. Now while I love Living History Farms and it’s very experiential, the Jordan House history is just so rich and the tour guide was VERY knowledgeable!y 9 year old son and his elementary aged friends were very engaged in this tour and we all learned a lot! I’ve lived in Iowa my whole life and never knew many of the things we learned at Jordan House!

Great historical tour. It is decorated beautifully for the Christmas season. A must see!

It was a fascinating tour of a historical home. The people who lived there and the fact that the home still exists are what's important here & of interest. The tour is very interesting and the guide I had was very knowledgeable. I'd recommend checking it out if you have time. Just try not to draw comparisons to Salisbury House or Terrace Hill.

Wonderful place to visit and learn a little Des Moines history

This is a very special home to me as he was my Great Grandfather. I heard great stories about the China and Pearl Handled Knives and Beautiful Silver Tea Sets. My GGF was known to everyone as Uncle Jimmy. He never turned a lonely lost traveler away. He had a little room set off the side of house with a bed and a meal. He believes in God and preached if they needed a Preacher. He died in Church.

In the area, thought we would stop, only took photographs from the road.

The house is unassuming from the outside but has a wealth of history inside. I took my younger son on a tour with me. He really likes history so he enjoyed it. I don't think it would be of interest to children that don't like history. There are two factors in play with this house. First, it was one of the first houses in the area. Second, it was discovered that the house was on the underground railroad. I would highly recommend this tour for people interested in one or both of those topics. The tour guide was very knowledgeable.

We have the joy of meeting and receiving a tour with Gale! She made exploring the house a highlight on our visit to Iowa. We absolutely loved hearing stories, exploring historic culture norms , and truly going back in time! A must see and experience for visitors of all ages!

Was estate sale shopping and was surprised to get in this master historical site of our lows history and railroad background. .Small for its size huge for its contents and informational..Gale was a joy and I've always seen more into historical finding than most. Is like to spend the night here just to feel the past so called haunting but automation and bringing in electricity etc iscthe reason why its been spoiled.. Another thing you should do is venture out its surroundings and other close by housing alot of history.

Tour hostess was very interesting and really explained a lot of the small Victorian details. Our 12 and 16 year olds enjoyed it too!

It's a beautiful house and it's fun to see how things have and haven't through the years. It's also good to learn about our local history.

One of the more interesting historical places in the Des Moines area to visit it's like stepping back in time.
A very caring and informative staff make it a wonderful place to spend an hour or so!

I would totally recommend visiting the Jordan House, very interesting stories; rich in history!

Beautiful house, intelligent guide, but most of the items were not original to the house/family. The connection to the underground railroad seemed like a stretch.
