Reviews of History Colorado Center
Joaquin Muñoz
Was really excited to see the Ute community exhibition. So many amazing examples of indigenous peoples craft and tool making. Really appreciated the balance of both historic and contemporary indigenous people's creations. This is a lovely and thorough museum to visit. Lots of great exhibits and crucial information about indigenous peoples, Chicano / Mexican-American people and history overall.

The History Colorado Center is a MUST-SEE!!! I cannot rave about this museum enough!!! My husband and I aren’t museum people but were looking for something to do while visiting Denver, and we stumbled upon the History Colorado Center. WOW! We loved all of the hands-on, interactive exhibits and the creativity behind the layout and rooms. Where else can you walk into a Dust Bowl era house to actually experience a dust storm?? Or stand on a pair of skis and simulate a ski jump?? It’s not all “fun”: the History Colorado Center acknowledges that there were/are terrible aspects of Colorado’s history. I think they did a great job of presenting different viewpoints and experiences that make you think deeper about others, and hopefully, “when you know better, you do better” (Oprah). Thank you History Colorado Center for creating such an awesome, immersive, educational experience!

A big Squat 4 story Building. Built with a lot of stone. For me the 1st floor was a bust. There was a clothes exhibit, pass. Then I went up to the 4th floor and the exhibits got much better. I did enjoy floors 2-4. My only real issue was I thought the # of artifacts was lacking. The Denver Art Museum had 4 times the artifacts, and I'm not talking paintings and sculptures. This museum in my opinion had too many video exhibits vs real objects exhibits. That being said I did spend almost 2 hours viewing the exhibits.
Overall for me this was a 3 1/2 star review. Due to I have to round it ends up a 3 for me. If you like video exhibits I could easily see it gain a star for you. Would I return? No, I much preferred the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science!
Sally Garrison
Had a great time here. The museum has just the right amount of hands on, informational, and interactive exhibits. We appreciated that the museum faced tough topics head on. Well done!
Theresa Hoban
This is a fun place for kids with interactive exhibits. It was free on the day we went. There are some fun exhibits like the general store antique car. Volunteers were very nice.
Cami Ueoka
Omg went to visit one of their expositions and was so rich in details and so touching I was truly impressed! Met with senator Julie Gonzalez and she is AMAZING. It was her idea 💡 and her invite. What an awesome 🤩 place to teach children about US HISTORY ! Phenomenal! …
Ken Godfrey
Gloriously old fashioned, but with ask the modern convenience and fantastic views. Buzzing Bar and nice restaurant. Sweet and fun historic town with lovely shops and update eateries. Reasonable prices.
Ryan “REALTOR” Crane
My wife loves museums and we really had a great time at this one. As first timers in Colorado, it was great to learn about a lot of the history here, including the dust bowl. You can spend all day here..Plenty of parking in the garage right across the street. Definitely stop by if you are looking for a good museum.
Orly Liba
Very interactive and interesting museum for all ages. We all learned a lot about American and Colorado history and the kids learned about life over a century ago through playing with the displays. The museum displays some of the history through the stories of Native Americans in a thoughtful way.
Kelly
Such a fun interactive museum!
We had 2 hours to kill and decided to stop by the history Colorado center for a bit. We did not expect it to be so fun and interactive! It was fun learning about the Ute community, our influence on the environment, and learning about the history of Colorado. We had to rush through the last 2 floors because 2hrs is just not enough!
I recommend budgeting at least 3hrs to visit!
Rajan Vekaria
Visited the place finally after the trip was planned 2 months ago. It kept postponing. The museum is definitely worth a visit. Especially our dream was to visit the Building Denver section on the top floor. Every Coloradan should Visit this place.
Veronica
Love this museum! They have so much content, we've been there twice and only gotten through one floor. Everything is so interesting and relevant. They tell whole stories and important pieces of Denver/Colorado history.
Callie Phelps
This museum is huge! You could easily spend 4+ hours here if you wanted to read through every exhibit. I particularly enjoyed the exhibit that highlighted the history of Denver development and parks. The museum is very inclusive, touching on the role that all genders and nationalities have played in our state’s history. Plenty of fun and interactive experiences for both adults and kids on each floor.
Stephen Crisp
If I had children this would be the first museum I would take them too. So much fun interactive and so much to do.
Jacques Manuel (JM)
There was a lot of info need to be absorbed here. I love reading history and getting to know a new town from hundred years ago to nowadays. My mind got saturated and I enjoyed every piece of this history museum, especially the miner cave part, that's lots of fun indeed.
Santiago Asuncion
Lots of interactive activities and scenery, fun for kids and adults! There was a farm section with baskets and wooden eggs for kids to collect from these little fake chickens. That part was definitely for kids, but I enjoyed it alot!
Monica Wisehart
Great place to learn more about Colorado. The Ute Voices exhibit is incredible and heartbreaking. Must see for everyone. The 100 objects of Colorado is also a must see.
Grace Markley
There is so much I could say about this exceptional museum. It’s really a must visit for Colorado residents and out of state visitors. Interactive exhibits for people of all ages; thoughtful and painstakingly researched exhibits about our State’s history- not shying away from dark periods in our past. I always leave wanting to engage in a hearty discussion about something I didn’t know about before. Thanks History Colorado!
Jenne Holmes
Omg if there is only one museum you visit in Denver make sure it's this one! I was literally blown away. 4 floors of amazing and timely exhibits all relating to the history of Denver and Colorado.
I was there for about 4 hours and although I saw all the exhibits I should have given it more time. I especially enjoyed the Colerado 100 items display.
The whole museum is beautifully executed. The gift shop is spacious and worth a visit. Very impressed.
Mariam Othman
Seeing the Ute community show made me very happy. There are so many beautiful examples of tools and crafts made by indigenous people. Really liked how the works by indigenous peoples, both ancient and modern, were balanced. Visit this gorgeous, comprehensive museum. There are many excellent displays and important facts regarding indigenous peoples, Chicano/Mexican Americans, and history in general.
mara gras
Kids and adults loved the museum. Hours of entertainment..ages ranged from 3-74
Tani Kickham
They have exhibits on everything from snowmelt to the dust bowl. The exhibits are interactive and provide great context and background information. I was impressed with the way so many viewpoints and groups were represented equally throughout the collection. It takes a day or more to really get through everything History Colorado has to offer.
Casey Rosett
Denver’s best kept secret for kids- can’t believe it took us so long to visit! So many interactive exhibits and a dedicated craft and Lego maker space make this the perfect all day outing. Will definitely be back!
Lindsay Salo
We had a little bit of time to kill so decided to pop in here to check it out. It was much more than I thought with four levels of exhibits. Our kids are not little anymore, but still enjoyed the hands on area where they could work in the general store, milk a cow, etc. We learned a lot from the mining exhibit and had fun trying out the ski jump simulator. Great spot!
Karim Gilyazov
One of the best museums I've visited lately. The place has 3 floors with distinct exhibitions covering different topics. Very good explanation of Sand Creek massacre. I suggest every traveler to start with this place to learn the history of the region
Chuck Baumgart
We've been members of History Colorado now for about 6 years. The membership fee is definitely worth it when you look at the added value of two tickets each year to the Georgetown railroad. Over the years we've done some of the individual tours within the facility itself as well as the tours to look at local history around Denver. We really enjoyed the tour up to Leadville and Central City to follow the life story of Baby Doe Tabor. Anything that can connect you back to the history of Denver and show how rich it is has just been fascinating for us and I'm sure it would be for almost anyone.
Fred Shattell
A fascinating museum with multiple levels and exhibits that take you across the state of Colorado and explore different areas of History. There are interactive exhibits including ski jumping and coal mining and areas for kids to play. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about this state chances are you will learn something new or gain a new perspective on a topic.
Naomi C
What a fantastic place! This is an affiliate of the Smithsonian so if your veteran you can get in for free. Definitely worth several visits. I spent 2 hours on my 1st visit and did not see everything. But it kept my attention and my interest.
Yasmine Charif
We genuinely had a great time here! We connected very much with the entrepreneurial spirit of Coloradans from 100 years ago (conveyed so well by the exhibits).
It was also very kid-friendly with lots of interactive stations.
The dust room was fantastic! Incredibly well designed and conveys as closely as can be the dust rolls experience.
And the staff, super helpful and personable. We had a wonderful time!
Monica von Hoff
I visited the museum as a chaperone on my 4th grader's field trip. While we didn't get to explore the whole museum, what we did visit was awesome. Our guide Kylie, was very friendly and super knowledgeable about all things Colorado. I'm definitely bringing the family back and all 4th graders and their families get in free.
Victor Wang
Amazing and comprehensive museum that covers the history of Colorado in great detail. Quite a large museum that can easily take more than 1-2 hours if you like to visit exhibits and check every detail. Wide ranging exhibits and artifacts and quite a few interactive ones which are fantastic for kids and interesting for adults.
Went during Denver arts week which happens during the first Saturday of November where multiple art museums graciously open up their doors for free between 5-10pm.
Museum admission is not expensive on most other days and it’s a fantastic way to get a comprehensive view of Denver is an extremely short period of time. Great for tourists who have the time to learn about the city and locals with families who want to start giving kids great knowledge about the history all around them.
William Walker
Randomly decided to check out this museum after dropping my car at a nearby shop. I couldn't have been happier with my spontaneous visit. This place is a true gem of Colorado History. I walked out a more knowledgeable and happier person than when I went in.
Brian Baker
Excellent museum - surprisingly, one of the best I've been too in a long while! I found it to be worth the price of admission, and ended spending two more hours there than I had originally planned. Of course, it's all about Colorado, the struggles, the victories, the challenges of yesterday and today. Plenty of interactive exhibits and memorabilia, covering topics from dino fossils to human rights to beer!
Laura Gelber
An excellent museum that covers the history of Colorado. The exhibits were fantastic and well researched. The Sand Creek Massacre exhibit was phenomenal.
Matthew Henderson
So informative. Had such a great time there
Brian Poulsen
This museum is the best. Love Colorado History is not the oldest but it is very fascinating. I took a Colorado History class in college and this place made it really come to life.
Chengxiang Yuan
A multifaceted view into the history of Colorado. There are 4 floors of exhibits, each with various exhibits regarding one of the aspects of Colorado's history. There are exhibits about the mining history of the state, famous people in the state's history, and its Native American heritage. The Dust Bowl house exhibit was exceptionally well-done and one of the high points of the visit.
Paul Jackson
The Salt Creek Massacre exhibit was BREATHTAKING. The museum has presented this very tragic story in a fair way, from the Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes' perspective. I commend the organizers for their grand efforts!
Michelle Daylong
Went here for a lecture on historic beer but dropped by early to check out the museum. And I am so happy we did! They had thoughtful exhibits that covered large ranges of Colorado history. The Beer exhibit we went for was awesome and we loved watching the old Coors commercials.
J B.Z. (Pand3m1x)
I always love visiting the History Colorado Museum! I was last there around 2017, so they have new exhibits and art installations, including one about the history ans culture of the Ute Nation, Hecho en Colorado (pieces created by Chicano/a/x, latino/a/x artists), and an exhibit with hundred items celebrating the centennial state. They even had some great art installations by Gregg Deal and Adri Norris.
So Powerful. And even though some of the interactive stuff was closed down or required styluses to interact with, it was still a good time, and many powerful moments.
Don't want to spoil the whole museum for you, so here are only a few pictures to hopefully convince you how worthwhile it is to go right now!
Sandy Troff
We enjoyed all the exhibits. We went specifically for the 'Beer Here' and found it interesting. We had already been on the Coors Brewery tour and found that info helpful in viewing their Beer Here exhibit. We enjoyed all the old saloon pictures in the beginning. The museum building is very nice and easy to get around. We went on a Sunday as meter street parking is free. It was not crowded on the day we went. Senior discount available and we had coupons for $2 off. They had to ring up us separately to use both the coupons.
Timoteo
This place blew my expectations away! The exhibits were of amazing quality and there is actually too much to do in one visit! The local Colorado exhibits were incredibly educational in a super fun way! I loved every minute!
Sam Morales
Excellent place for family visits. After 1 trip we became members. We loved the Play Ball exhibit and the history of Colorado.
We recommend natives and transplants visit at least yearly to learn about the culture and history of our beautiful state.
Reminder street parking is usually a challenge and the meters now take credit cards in addition to coins.
It is across from Denver Art Museum (DAM) and within walking distance of several other downtown attractions and eateries, we recommend making a day of it.
Jesse Perez
The staff and exhibits are so amazing. Went here with my son on a school trip. Jack was our tour guide, and he was amazing with what he knows about Colorado history. Jack's ability to keep a bunch of rowdy 4th graders attention was impressive.
Katie Noyce
This museum was a huge surprise!!! My son went here on a school field trip and I went along too. This place is beautiful, thoughtfully done, and very detailed. It has mini town area complete with a general store, old fashioned car, prairie house, & barn (with fun slide & chicken coup to collect eggs). We also saw the mining exhibit (no detail excluded), the Colorado pop culture exhibit (don’t know the official name), and the dust bowl exhibit (complete with a theater room to recreate living through the dust storm inside a prairie house). The group lunch room in the basement is gorgeous! It recreates camping in the Colorado mountains! I know we only saw a smidge if this medium. It is a must see for anyone in the Denver area or tourists in the area.
Deb Co
Fun place to spend some time learning about Colorado's history. They have a lot of really cool artifacts and rotating exhibits with interactive parts, so there's something new to explore from time to time. If you want to take your time with each exhibit, I'd recommend that you allow a few hours to explore and not feel rushed.
When we visited there were exhibits on the Mining, Borderlands of Southern Colorado, the local Chicano movement, Japanese Internment Camps, the Ku Klux Klan, Denver A-Z (learned some fun facts), Baseball, Lego-Rado, an interactive exhibit on skiing and lots more.
Amy Bates Nelson
History Colorado is a fun place to bring the kids and grandparents. There are hands on exhibits throughout the museum and it’s fun to learn more about Colorado. I found the Dust Bowl exhibit an interesting, informative and fun experience. The 100 Items showing the history of Colorado was also a cool way to show history and there are some wonderful pieces in the collection including Molly Browns Opera cloak and Baby Doe Tabors bedroom vanity!
My son was disappointed that the time machines weren’t there anymore. Overall, we enjoyed exploring the museum!
Jeana Marie DeLaCruz
A decision debate between "fantastic Colorado history" and "enormous Colorado value!" This is a must visit of all ages. Start from the fourth floor and work your way down to the first floor for a grand guaranteed finish. It is the most beautifully displayed atmosphere of Colorado's finest history! Take a look all around, there is a surprise around every corner.
Christopher Provost
A very cool exhibit across the ages. Went to see the History of Beer in Colorado and saw so much more. From the skiing history to the diorama of Denver, to the Fort Bent exhibit, it was a great time. Got to try a ski jumping attempt on Howelsen Hill which was really fun. The cafe had a decent flight of beers to pair with the history of beer exhibit which was nice.
Steve Replogle
I generally enjoyed my recent visit to the museum with a school group. Our guide was top-notch, and the students found the exhibits interesting and fun. They particularly enjoyed the recreations: the Dust Bowl cabin, the old motorcar, the trading post, the mining elevator. As with many museums, adult interests were gratified by other objects nearby, longer texts or smaller artifacts. I noticed, but did not have time to view, a more sophisticated exhibit related to the Chicano Freedom Movement. I hope to return soon for that, and to see if there are other presentations beyond the range of our elementary social studies program. History belongs to everyone... even adults!
Cali Noelle
This place is amazing! It is the best historical museam.... Scratch that..... The best meuseam I have ever been too! There is so much to do and see. It is super interactive and they make learning fun. Definitely go here! Also if you like old houses and women's history ask for the free ticket to go to the Byers- Evans house.
Valerie Clark
This is a great place to spend the day. We were there from open to close. It opens at 10:00 and closes at 5:00. The only day they are closed is Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's. And we still did not finish the whole place. They have handy cap entrance and ramp. The employees are very knowledgeable about the product's. It has a gift shop and the bathrooms are clean and we'll lit. You should come and check it out for yourself.
Danita H
Three stories of static and interactive exhibits in a well thought out museum. There is a giant game board on the first floor and a walk-through silver mine that you are taken to by way of a faux mine shaft elevator that shakes and rattles on its way "down". There is also a virtual old car ride and a ski jump. Not everything is happy times, however. The tone turns darker as there are plenty of exhibits of the more unseemly side of Colorado's history such as the KKK and a walk-through Japanese internment camp. All together this is a well balanced museum with plenty of hands on exhibits to keep all ages intellectually stimulated and yearning to know more. A big plus is the connected small dining shop that sells soups, sandwiches, salads and drinks so you can stay focused on all the Center has to offer without a growling stomach getting in the way!
Hani El Hajj
This museum has 4 levels and many exhibits. You can discover diverse stories of Denver and Colorado communities. You can explore the Western American Art alongside the history of Colorado from A to Z. It is a great place for the whole family.
V A
So much fun. It was easy to get a ticket on site. Very inexpensive and I learned some amazing facts about Denver. I had a great visit!
Sharon D. Thompson
We attended the NSBE Gala at the History Museum last night, what a great event. Nice mentoring program.
Mike M
Went for my daughters field trip, we had a great time. Alot of good information. We had an awsome tour guide named Steve.. He was amazing with the kids, probably one of their best tour guides by far.. We zipped zopped and shimmied are time watches back to 1833 where we began our adventure at bent's fort.. The entire adventure was great and fun experience.
Nicole de Held
This place is really freaking cool! It's not that much to get on (kids are free right now😁) and the history they have is pretty freaking cool! I took my son(12) and father in law (72) and they absolutely loved it! The Native American exhibit was so beautiful and informational. The also have a big part where kids and play and mess around for awhile. I strongly recommend this place if you've never been or go again if you have!
Anthony Hunt
Beautiful! Great Hall for a conference reception. Loved the Exhibit of the Centennial State in 100 Objects.
Denise Bouchillon
3 of us, mother, adult son, and 6 year old attended the mother's day brunch at the 10 am seating. Hostesses were warm and welcoming. Brunch options were plentiful enough, however, even though the warmer units were turned on the food was cold. The afternoon was spent exploring the museum, particularly the keota exhibits, and was interactive and fun. The previous gift shop has been turned into an exciting place for a child to play and learn. Lovely day, thank you.
Rebecca Mabey
The Dust Bowl experience was very cool and the little town set up was very hands on and educational
Antoinette Bongiorno
We bought a city pass and were really looking forward to our visit here. The History Colorado Center surpassed our expectations! The exhibits are very well done and there is so much to learn. It was recommended to us to start at the top floor and I would definitely recommend the same. The Ute voices and Building Denver exhibits were our favorite. Also the entire facility is very clean including the bathrooms.
Jana Elliott
We went for the Brewsology; however, this is only a review of the museum itself. The majority of the center was too warm to be enjoyed. This could be due to it being after hours, but we did not stay and explore as long as we would have had it been more comfortable. There were some really cute exhibits, as well as others that we just passed right by. There was an old car you could get in, an old register to press buttons on and it popped open, and a fake cow to "milk" (if your spouse does this, have camera ready to video itnot sure if anything comes out as my husband stopped as soon as I started videoing). Our favorite was the school house and yearbook interactive experience. You sit in a school desk and take your picture. You then choose your hair and email it to yourself. Both mine and my husband's ended up in spam, so be sure to check there. It was cool to be able to go in and touch things, but we'd likely only do it once. We enjoyed stepping out onto the balcony for fresh air and being able to go back in to continue exploring.
A. Mérida
Aimed at kids, so it’s very family friendly. You can spend hours here. There’s a lot to learn, even as an adult.
Stacy West
Review of the spring break camp and summer camp: my son has really enjoyed his time at these camps. It seems the organizers are able to strike that balance between fun and educational really well. The camp feels organized and safe. And it is a good price! Especially compared to other downtown options.
Andy Maidment
Honestly, the museum feels a bit sparse. There's vast areas that just aren't used. Some exhibits are great; some of them you wonder why they bothered it why it's even there. It just seems to lack focus. It's not a bad museum, it's just not great. Other States definitely have a message their trying to send or they're trying to be fairly complete. This felt like neither.
Scott Jackson
wow, i had no idea this place existed! what a great museum! i went to check out Armando Geneyro's Brick & Soul photography exhibit (you should too!) but was pleasantly surprised by all of the other multiple exhibits about the history of this great state. the museum is laid out across 4 floors, and the advice from the gentleman at the entrance to go to the 4th floor and work your way down was the perfect way to experience the numerous exhibits. we used the stairs to move down each floor but there are elevators too. also a nice gift shop, and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Rob Birdwell
Awesome place! The Colorado-based history here is great and the staff does a fantastic job of guiding groups (such as the elementary school I was with) in a myriad of aspects regarding Colorado state history.
Jenn Caffey
Nice museum if you’re interested in local history. Learned about the dustbowl, the Ute, and much more.
Jennifer Fuller
My Uncle Rainer took my Mom and I here for a very nice Mother's Day brunch. I had such a nice time and the food was great! Everyone that put this event together did an incredible job. They also made sure that each Mom got a pretty carnation! I hope to go back to check out some exhibits! I didn't even know about this place and excited for a new place to visit!!
Tina A
Truly an Awesome Museum not to be missed on a Denver Visit! Was able to learn so much - at my own speed. Loved the interactive exhibits. History is what it is...many, many Horrible experiences. However, it shows the perseverance of people. But, History needs to be exposed for what it is and WE ALL need to learn from it, so it doesn't happen again at the expense of others.
Calza
Going here is always nice, and the exhibits are genuinely interesting. You learn a lot every time you come.
Sherry page
Enjoyed an interesting and informative afternoon learning about the Ute Indians, a 1920's Eastern Colorado town and Democracy as well as an Hispanic Colorado display.
Michael Taylor
It looks good to go to. I went wed. 9 15 2021.I was nice.
erin atencio
Wow, so much more information about Denver and the celebration of our city than I thought I would get in one day .
The Sand Creek Massacre was very well depicted, the video depicted there is heartbreaking. The dust storm simulation was one of the best museum experiences I seen.
Nick McQueen
I've been here twice with my wife and 2 kids. Everyone loves it. We still haven't been to every exhibit. There's so much to see and it's all very fascinating.
Jonathan Benitz
Great museum! Really appreciated the Pride exhibits for Pride month here. Wish they were permanent exhibits though. Also, our little one loved and enjoyed the Lego room.
Jane Hadley
This was a very worthwhile place to visit. We were here for an hour and a half but should have stayed longer. We saw only the 4th and 3rd floor exhibits: the history of Denver, history of the Utes, and 100 objects that tell Colorado's history. All were excellent.
David Berkowitz
This is a really fun treat that is great for pretty much any and every age. There is a ton here for kids, but lots of adult topics are covered thoughtfully from beer to Japanese internment. Kudos to the curators.
Mike Azcona
I really enjoyed learning about Colorado's history and really like the 100 pics done by Colorado State students exemplifying their vision
Ashley Adams
What's a fun little museum! Went for the John Denver experience, which wasn't the best exhibit, a little lacking, but cute and fun none the less. Gave us a chance to see the rest of the wonderful museum and explore!
They practiced very good covid regulations and we felt safe. Felt great to be back in a museum again.
Jon Anthony
Awesome places high recommend. Has a little of everything about history.. just took this few pictures. Your Adventure awaits..:)
Rob Cepelak
It was okay, just average. Several of the interactive exhibits and videos weren't working or closed. I really would expect better from my state, but oh well. Par for the course really.
Shannon Holck
Great for kids and adults. A replica of a homestead act town, a dust bowl simulation, native american exhibits, and an indoor camping area, and much more. Would love to go back and see more!
Chris Constantine
Four floors of exceptional exhibits of much more than Colorado history, that should be appreciated by all ages.
Brian Harvey
Quick stop with the family. Affordable admission, friendly staff, worthwhile exhibits. Definitely worth a visit
Rachel
Definitely worth checking out. Nice displays and a great way to learn about history. A lot of interactive exhibits.
Andrew Elegante
Awesome museum you can potentially spend a whole day in. Plenty of historical stuff as well as rotating exhibits of things like the school kid art exhibition that was being installed when we arrived. During our weekday visit there were lots of school groups so be prepared for that.
I loved the exhibit about beer, especially the vintage Coors ads. My family has worked at and distributed Coors beer so I have a bit of a personal tie but even if I didn't I think I would have gotten a kick out of the 1970s era "mountain man & woman" (this ain't no flat lander beer) ads
Haleigh X
Very informative and had a wide variety of exhibits. We really enjoyed the 4th floor. Museum was meticulously clean and I felt very safe as the staff were following strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
Malcolm Weir
Very interesting and a good introduction to local state history
Ashley Dumaine
The exhibits were great, we learned a lot about Colorado's history coming here! This is a great stop if you're spending a short time in Denver.
Alena
A great spot with lots of interactive exhibits. The museum kept two middle grade kids busy and engaged, giving adults the ability to spend more time reading about artifacts and exhibits. Especially loved the Brick & Soul photo installation on the 4th floor and the Zoom In exhibit. Very interesting! The building itself is beautiful and light-filled, too.
Dawn Schwartz
Took my 4th grade class on a field trip. They were engaged and were able to interact with hands-on exhibits.
Em
My annual membership is more than worth it! Love Colorado and it's artifacts, history and beauty!
Rachel Swearengin
Was a nice place took us 3 hours just to see first 2 floors will have to go back to see the 3&4 floors
Destinee Asuncion
There's tons to learn in here, four stories worth of full floors to be exact. It was so fun and informative. I think me and my fiance spent up to four or five hours in there. There's interactive exhibits, so a lot to do for adults and children!
The cost of tickets were a steal with how much you get to see and do. I also found it interesting how we as guests were included in deciding what we want to see next in the exhibits.
Todd Thalimer
My wife works right next door and had been to the museum and suggested we go as a family. We decided to support the facility and got a family annual pass since there were a few upcoming exhibits we wanted to see. When you become a member, you get unlimited access to the museum, early access to exhibits, and lots of other perks like Georgetown Loop tickets. The early access is nice because exhibits can be very busy once open to the public.
Parking can be tricky, but we've always managed to find a meter someone on the block, and it's only $2 for 2 hours which is perfect. The exhibits can be quite spread out throughout the museum on different floors, but it's not too difficult to navigate among wide staircases or elevators.
Modular Workshop
History Colorado's great museum with plenty of revolving exhibits to interest anyone interested in colorado. 4 floors of exhibits and a really helpful staff along with guides curators and support. Located next to the Denver art museum and other relevant places in the heart of Denver, It's a great place to make a day of museums.
Sami Roby
This was amazing! The Japanese internment exhibit gave me goosebumps! I teach about it with my WWII unit, but seeing it was a different level.
I also loved the info on how the Chicano movement impacted specific portions of Colorado.
I went as a mom on a field trip, but as history teacher I could 100% justify it yearly as it goes over every topic we do.
The exhibits were interactive, relevant to all ages, and exhibits so many pieces of history that are personal for any citizen in Colorado.
I was also very pleased that they were objective and unbias showing the good and bad of our history, as well as mindful of age appropriateness.
Worth seeing for multiple trips. I just wish we would have had more time!
Lily Raindancer
Family and I had a really good time and learned a lot. There were a couple of spots that could use a little revamping to make the flow more seem less to help keep attention.
Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone who likes to learn about history!
Other than that, the only complaint we have is not on the center itself but the care providers for the children were having a rather difficult time keeping them from getting to rowdy, and it was distracting at some points where we literally left the exhibit without really finishing just to get away from the kids.
Kevin Lindahl
The exhibits are outstanding. There is never enough time in a day. So will be back.
Kathleen Goldstrom
Wonderful informational place!!! Really enjoyed most of the exhibits, especially the 100 items that show Colorado history!!! Lots of fabulous detail, from ancient to modern day!!! Wonderful!!!
Nikki Morrison
Our family of 5 had a great time today! We learned a ton, there are many interactive displays. We wish we had had a bit more time, two hours wasn't enough.
Cindy Silverbach
Educational and very enjoyable! The exhibits are well thought out. Highly recommend!
Timothy Drake
There are so many great things that I learned. Awesome place!!
Paula
A fascinating, immersive experience, past history to present of Denver. Fully appreciated all exhibits. Wonderful.
Ryan J Gannett
Great exhibits and great spot for community events
Shiloh Burns
This was a wonderful museum! There were lots of interactive exhibits for adults and kids. This was definitely a highlight of our trip.
Xochitl Esperanza
Fantastic interactive exhibits. 4 fabulous floors, full of history, artifacts, as well as diverse topics. This is probably one of the best historical museums I’ve ever been to. Highly recommend!
It took us approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete.
Shay Rubino
me and my son loved our visit, the Legorado exhibit is awesome and super fun for any kid.
Joseph Martinez
4th floor and 2nd floor interesting about massacres of people, is sad. Why is there nothing about Ludlow?
Bryon Taylor
Great museum and fun experience. The curators and staff do a great job of finding interesting and unique exhibits. Worth the time.
Luis Martinez
Great way to get in touch with the history of the people of Colorado.
Alex Porter
Great museum all about colorado. Great for older kids but adults can have a great time as well. I learned something! Plan on spending 2+ hours there. Parking garage located next door. If you get a membership it's almost the cost of the ticket plus you get passes to Georgetown railroad that are valued more than the membership!
Rick Beethe
More on display here than I expected! Impressive variety I really enjoyed the Legos incorporation into all the exhibits.
Brooke Malcolm
This is a beautiful museum, full of lots of interactive exhibits. Our 4th grader was excited to show us everything he learned on his school field trip a couple of weeks ago. The preschooler was a little harder to impress, but the first floor activities were pretty fun for her too! We were there about an hour and a half, but we easily could have spent much more time looking at everything.
Duncan Adkins
Fantastic history museum, both in terms of the content and material, but also in the structure of the museum as well- the architecture creates an open space that encourages you to explore, with exhibits off an airy, open atrium. Definitely a required visit when in Denver!
Nate Currey
The history Colorado center is a place not to be missed by tourists and locals alike! Colorado has such a rich heritage. From the original Native American tribes throughout the state to Spanish settlers, pioneers, mountain men, fur traders and miners;each contributed to the heritage of Colorado and this building tells that story in a compelling way that keeps both kids and adults entertained while they learn about the important history chapters of the Centennial State.
Soquel and Aaron
It was meh. Getting DT is a major hassle with having to pay for parking and the museum and the exhibits seemed geared towards the 3rd-4th grade crowd. I would however give their podcast 5 stars for interesting Colorado history that is all produced!
Patricia Roberts
I got a pass through the Denver Public Library Museum pass program. It is fantastic.
Jonathan Ro
Colorado pride clearly on display here. Curators have done a great job of laying out the history of this great state, giving out of state visitors like me a good sense of what makes Colorado Colorado. The 100 items display on the 3rd floor is well worth a visit as a helpful crash course on the history of the state.
Michael Whelan
This was my second time visiting History Colorado Center. I enjoyed the displays more the second time. Extremely educational and lots of fun. The grandsons ages 5 and 8 had a wonderful time. Restrooms, elevator, and a gift shop were all available. Parking is a little difficult, but we survived. Highly recommend a visit to the History Colorado Center.
Hana M
Highly recommend to visit, staff are all nice. Give yourself at least two hours in this museum.
Barbara Marchetti
This is a great Museum for families to visit. At the time we went masks were required, however we went on a weekday and it was not very busy. Also, because of Covid, there were hand sanitizer stations at every display. History Colorado museum offers something for everyone. The displays are well done with many hands-on items to experience. Information on every display was in Spanish as well as English. There are 4 floors to the museum focusing on different details of Colorado history.
Parking for the museum is on side streets surrounding the museum or a couple of parking garages and on street parking lots.
Sally H
Excellent exhibits, wish we'd had time to see more. Definitely coming back for another visit.
Cliff Jones
Today is Colorado's 143rd anniversary of Statehood so History Colorado had a free admission day. We went around to all the exhibits and I found the one about the Ameche Japanese Internment camp very interesting. I am a History nut so anything History is right up my Alley. The facilities were well maintained and I used the Lavatory once and it was very clean and well maintained. The museum is very well put together and I left there knowing more about Colorado than I did before. Most interesting thing I learned? Colorado used to belong solely to the Ute Native American Tribe
David Hanes
Haven't been here in a long time. I had forgotten how fun this museum is! Not crowded, so it was easy to see it at your own pace. I ended up getting a membership, so will be back!
Alvin Galit
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed myself. I've never been that interested in history in general but wanted to take a friend to a museum nonetheless. Good thing I did because it turned out to be a fun and interactive learning experience. I highly recommend everyone to check this out.
Michelle Ka
Absolutely love coming to this museum both as a teacher and even just to come on a personal day. The museum is so informative, well laid out, and engaging. It's much larger than expected. So plan enough time for you to enjoy it!
Linda Ranney
Surprisingly interesting museum. Lots of interactive and multimedia exhibits! Our 12-year-old granddaughter really enjoyed it! Very educational for us all.
Chrystal Godfrey
I was disappointed with the overall experience. It lacked the feel of the past and omitted many parts of Colorado's history. The only exhibit that taught me anything was the Chicano Movement displays and information.
Gvantsa Chain
Recommend to visit. Really nice and interactive museum. Check out beer history and native Americans history gallery ♥️
Jeri Zimmermann
Great place to share the glorious history of Colorado and have fun doing it! Great children's programs!
Monica Miller
Very well done! Engaging & informative exhibits. We spent several hrs. on our first visit...but would definitely go back again to take in more!
Pavan Karra
Never seen a museum like that before, in a good way. I like the idea of "what do you think?"
The museum is quite inclusive of the visitors.
Debbie Cole
We enjoyed all the exhibits and learned so much about Colorado’s history.
Good activities for young school children.
We would certainly recommend.
Tom Fleischman
Four floors of thoughtfully arranged exhibits around a central atrium make this a welcoming place to visit and learn about the history of Colorado. A sprinkling of interactive and multimedia displays make this museum a good place for visitors of all ages. Parking is available at street meters that accept credit cards and there are also parking decks about the neighborhood. We unexpectedly needed to give the 2-hour meter another feeding since the museum held our interest for longer than we thought it might. Overall, a great museum for out-of-state visitors or for students who are not yet familiar with the history of Colorado.
Kelsie R.
It's a newer museum. From my experience, they take time to curate and become what other museums in the area might be. That being said, they have a neat membership program, History Buffs, for fourth graders that my kiddo loved. There was some neat interactive things for kids on the first floor, but I didn't find myself engaging or wanting to return the way I do at other museums. I find mainstream Colorado History a little dry though. I think they would make bank if they did an adults only exhibit about Colorado's darker history - now that's interesting! Overall, the staff was very welcoming, the spaces are clean, and I felt safe in Covid-time (plenty of space, not crowded at all, everyone wore masks). Worth a visit if you've never been, but it wouldn't make my "must do in Denver" list.
Gregory Hall
Nice peaceful museum to visit. Educational for all ages.
Kyle Halloran
Great destination for small groups. +2 hour activity. Online ticket sales only.
L. C.
This was a cool discovery on our trip to Denver. The hands-on activities kept two middle-aged folks very entertained. The whole experience surprised us.
Also, if you get hungry, there is a small eatery within the museum. We chose to go back to our hotel to eat, but I can see the appeal for those coming with kiddos who get cranky if they can't catch a quick bite.
Nadja E. Solis
Great place to learn about Colorado history. It has interactive activities for the curious minds. Make plans to spend around 3-4 hours here, there’s lots to see and do.
Samantha L.
Went here with my daughter's fourth grade class! This museum is a absolute must it has so many fun activities for the children to get deep down and dirty with!
Karen Stinson
One of the best museums I've been to. Very hands on and informative. Went during a children's celebration. Fantastic.
Daniel Dorritie
Mountain and city views from the interesting museum. Great place for a person that is new or old to Colorado to get to know this great state.
Darin Partterson
This was a wonderful museum with many exhibits that can appeal to many interests
Cynthia Molloy
Celebrated Colorados 145th birthday as a vendor for Bridget's Botanicals. Beautiful museum!
Cat Cho
Beautiful filled with history and hosts beautiful events. Most recently, they hosted the Thorn Gala Fashion Show to help support their mission in ending child trafficking and eliminating online child sexual abuse material.

Amazing exhibitions. I learned so much about early Colorado development; an incredible and diverse legacy.
Emma Schmoll
Timed entry was great, the museum was not very crowded and I definitely felt safe. Styluses were provided for the touch screen interactive exhibits which was really nice, and staff were keeping things clean and regularly wiping down surfaces. As usual, the exhibits were interesting and informative, and I particularly enjoyed the new democracy exhibit.
Brandon Robinson
I was looking forward to visiting the museum. Of course they did a good job w what they did, but it wasn't really what i was expecting. It was a lot of political, activist, racial type stuff. It just seemed like of bunch of old posters, pictures, and junk tbh. I liked the old clothing, mining display, snow gear, and western objects. I guess i was expecting more of a history of the old west. But im nobody so take this w a grain of salt. You might love it.
Cheyenne Webb
It was my first time coming here, and seeing the joy on my little ones face as we interacted with different exhibits, was wonderful! For sure will be coming back!
Dottie Cooke
We had a great day. Lots of hands on activities for the kiddos.
Dalas Ford
Lots to see and do here. Worth the time and the admission. Plan on more time to see everything than you think. We were there about 3 hours to see all exhibits. You will learn a lot.
Edgar Carreno
The History Colorado Center is a hub for learning all the social movements in our state and country evolution. Their employees are very customer service oriented. We need to visit this venue more frequently. It is a great family plan !!
Rachel Warnock
I went to this museum to learn more about Colorado and Denver during my visit and it absolutely did that. There were exhibits in many different topics, the history/development of Denver, sharing of different community voices/stories. They teach the history and don't sugarcoat things, acknowledging the good and bad in the past, but there are forward-thinking themes about what Denverites want for their city, what values they share and challenges they face.
Also it was a huge building, not too crowded, and had an awesome cafe.
Tara Lemke
Best museum! We absolutely love coming here as a family and on our own. They always have fascinating temporary galleries and do excellent upkeep on their regular galleries so the interactive pieces work well every time. It is all extremely kid friendly and allows everyone to truly explore while still being a great place to go and calmly learn about different parts of Colorado's history as an adult. (It's never chaotic or overwhelming like a children's museum can be.)
Griffin Ikesakes
We have always loved this place! Amazing tour guides and we always seem to discover something we missed the last time! Makes for a fun visit!
Rebecca Mason
We spent the entire day here and didn't even get finished with all 4 floors. I really enjoyed the 4th floor, about the Ute tribe and learning about many of their customs. I will definitely be going back the next time I visit Colorado.
Montana22
Great place to bring your kids! They will learn so much about the history of Colorado while having fun with all the different exhibits available. They have a room available for eating packed lunches and nice clean facilities. Their exhibit guides are full of fun facts and very knowledgeable historical tidbits.
Roman P
The exhibits are not engaging enough, mostly 2d, like posters and pictures on a wall. Architecturally the building felt more like an office building rather than a museum.
Veronica Everett
It’s not quite the history museum of the past but it fulfilled the gap left by the nature and science museum since there doesn’t seem to be history museums anymore. There was some pretty cool stuff there. Colorado in 100 items was neat. A lot of interesting tidbits as you go. They did not kick us out at closing time and we felt terrible when we realized the time but it was cool we got to experience the whole thing. We spent almost 3 hours there but we also read almost everything. It was worth the trip but I don’t think I’d go back.
There is no parking here! You’re going to park in a pay to park if you drive here. We parked in a skeezy looking lot between 11th and 12th on Lincoln.
Kathleen Andres
Wonderful hands on exhibits. Learned a lot with our grandkids and had fun too.
David Y
We came to the History Colorado Center for the first time today and were thoroughly impressed. The exhibits are awesome, the staff was great, plenty to do for both kids and adults, and the cafe had A+ food. Prices are reasonable too. This is a great gem in Denver!
Janna Dailey
This a great museum for families to visit - it has a great mix of history and hands-on exhibits
Eric Machac
This museum is very hands on and encourages you to interact with the exhibits. You will learn a ton about the history of our young state.
Turkeyfor Bolivar
A nice mid-sized museum just outside of downtown Denver. A mixture of permanent exhibits, traveling exhibits, and temporary (multi-month) exhibits. A really good place to take the kids, as the staff and the exhibits take the time to explain topics on a kid level. They sometimes take it too far ("Denver A to Z" gets a little too silly for its own good) but I liked their willingness to tackle lots of topics. An extra shout-out to having a big display about an early 20th-century town on the Eastern Plains instead of going for the obvious "Wild West Mountain Boom Town." I feel like I learned a *lot* more from the former than I would have from the latter.
Mark Murgia
So much to see, had to push myself to cover in three hours, still missed some things. Diarama one of my highlights.
The Fishers House
We went on a Wednesday afternoon after all of the field trips had left. We basically had this place to ourselves!! If you can go on a weekday afternoon, do it!
This was a really great museum. My husband and I went to the Monet exhibit not realizing that the rest of the museum is basically closed, so we went to History Colorado. Our kids love the place, but we had never been. It was fantastic. Love the dust bowl thing. My grandparents lived through it in eastern Colorado and it was brutal, so this really made the whole thing more real. Oh, and the ski jump! Too fun.
Ashley Hall
This was a very well done museum with plenty to learn about Colorado. Good stop if you’re hitting all the museums in the area. I was especially impressed that there was a small section on the Chicano movement in Denver/Colorado. There were several interactive exhibits for children and most plaques were translated into Spanish. About 5 floors of museum and the space was beautiful. Bathrooms very clean.
David Spier
History Colorado Center should have been a 5 star learning experience with excellent exhibits about the Ute Indians, the Dust Bowl years, Gold Mining and the Japanese Internment Camps among others. However the need to address social justice issues recently seems to have scrambled the Center's presentation. The presentation feels ripped apart and thrown back together in a random way with very different issues mixed together causing a jarring effect on the visitor. One good addition are places around many exhibits where a thought provoking question is asked and visitors can leave responses on post-it notes. Some of the responses were very moving.
Alex Nguyen
The exhibits in this museum are very well done and interactive. I'm an adult and still found it interesting. Also, it's a very clean facility and the cafe on the ground floor serves a very good bison burger. Highly recommend if you're in the downtown Denver area and need to kill a few hours.
Kettia W
We went with our kiddos on their field trip. We didn't know what to expect. It was awesome! So much history. My husband and i were pleasantly surprised. Great tour guide and very interactive. Lots of hands on learning(even for adults). So excited to go back!
Amber Fortune
A wonderful museum! They do a great job rotating exhibits to reflect both Colorado's past and current events. Its a fantastic place to practice social distancing and still be inside on cold winter days.
Mishelle Mumby
Enjoyed our time at this awesome place. Thank you to Fr. Greggory for inviting us. Glad to know all the money raised went to Christ the King Catholic Church School. The food was great! Dcn David and Mishelle
sean Ball
On first glance a good deal of the displays read like tourist brochures than content heavy museum displays. I found some displays invigorating, and others sparse. The building is beautiful, giftshop superb, staff welcome and accommodating. I hope a multi media feel will expand the conciousness of this museum to its former grandeur. I love the ABC and artifact rooms. Hope to see more archeology and cultures in conflict presentations in the future.
Angela Zollitsch
Great curatorship and authenticity regarding history. Tremendous experience for the young and young at heart.
Kristi LeMat
Had fun learning about Colorado and how much snow it takes to make enough water for us.
WR Biebelle
Best Museum in Colorado hands down...... totally interactive and updated and all relevant items, good for young and old and all between!
Eugene Carmona
I loved the place! So many interesting things, loved the Japanese internment and mining exhibits. Will definitely be returning soon!
Jenn Edgar
Amazing history and exhibits are thoughtful and thought-provoking. If you plan to bring your children-great! Maybe just remind them this isn't a good place for a game of tag....
Emily Young
Lovely museum! I personally wasn't too interested in the history but there was a ton of amazing artwork from local high and middle School students to keep me entertained! Like really really good stuff. The building was also really well maintained and staff was all very friendly. Although I didn't spend too much time in them (all my friends did) the historical exhibits looked beautifully put together. I'd go here again!
Nicole Hale
It's the best interactive museum I've ever been to. If you have kids, this place is a must. Overseas visitors - insight into history and future
There are a lot of things from the past - some are visual and when others are tactile. We spent 3 very interesting hours there. Would highly recommend visiting!
Cheryl-Lynn Silverberg
Had a great time on Colorado day but no where near enough ice cream for visitors.
Ana Sanchez
I was greeted with a smile the place is incredible comforting and nice.
Paula Baus
As a Wisconsin visitor to Denver with my 86 yo mother, I was very pleased to see they had a ramp and free use of a wheelchair. Price was reasonable, staff pleasant, helpful and seemed to enjoy their job. The baseball exhibit was awesome. It was nice to have someone their so knowledgeable about everything. Really enjoyed the 100 room too! Highly recommend.
Laura Adams
The museum itself was amazing! I learned so much about the history of CO. I will def go back.
Beware they are building a log cabin on one of the floors in the museum right now. The people working on it are not very friendly or polite. I was asked rudely to move several times during my visit. It was a little upsetting.
Ersin Sulukioglu
Great museum!! Really cool representation of ancient, old, recent, and current Colorado. Beautiful exhibits. Interactive. Well designed. Beautiful building and interior spaces. Only 4 stars because parking is not great.
John Matthews
Great museum with a great range of exhibits on four floors. Reasonable entry fee ($14 when I went). I thought the 100 items and A-Z of Denver the highlights. Two hours wasn't quite enough for me to get to everything I wanted to see, which is a good sign.
Mr. A
Great Museum for young and old. Great mix of topics. Wish they had more of the military items on display but this place is definitely worth a stop.
Marcus Julian Carbo
A well put together museum with hard hitting exhibits. Is it the National History Museum or the Smithsonian?
Well... no.
But it is super informational, well managed, and wonderfully displayed. Five stars is the Louvre, MET, and PMoA so don't let the missing star disuade you. Check this gem out if you have time in Denver.
Doug Fraser-Pitt
Fascinating museum on the history of Colorado with visiting exhibits on the top floor. Lots of interactive displays for all ages and a really engaging mixture of audio visual experiences telling various stories from Colorado's past including the story of how the Civil and Indian Wars were interlocking, the Dust bowl times and civil rights movements. Really enjoyed it and the cafe was good too. Staff didn't hurry us out despite the fact we arrived just before closing time
Sam Cannata
A wonderful and very underappreciated look at Colorado history in this museum. They make an effort to offer a more inclusive picture and tell a variety of different stores to illustrate the diversity of this state. They try to show some of the cool, current things as well as take a look some tougher subjects in a fair, respectful light. Overall, it's a great way to learn about the history of Colorado.
Jill Greenstein
Great, well curated, informative museum. Cute shop. Informed, helpful front lawn be staff. Really gives a great picture of all you can see in Denver.
Doug Magee
The history center always has interesting and creative exhibits when I go. We visited the Beer Here exhibit along with a few others. We could have spent many more hours walking through other displays. The children in our group, as young as 5, found fun things to do as well.
Florine Raitano
Attended the Brewsology Fest! Phenomenal! Don’t miss it next year if they bring it back!
Steven B.
Went there January 4, 2019 for a Citizenship ceremony for children. Watched two kids become citizens from a family under my supervision. Great day. The museum itself is excellent in it's content, and a beautiful building as well. Highly recommend this place for school groups especially. They do offer military and senior discounts on admission prices.
Kevin Ruth
One of the best museums I've been to in a long time. Very well curated and jam packed with Colorado history (both good and bad). After walking through all 4 levels I felt proud to be a resident of this beautiful state. I would love to go back with more friends in the future
Julie Ibarra
Huge museum! There is a lot of interactive activities that even kept my self entertained. Be sure to spend a good 2 hours in here! I loved it.
Jared Ronkos
The traveling exhibits are always interesting. The snow boards were very well put together and decorated. The kids art show impressed not only myself but my family. To see how many amazing young artists of all different mediums are in Colorado.
Chris Rockwood
One of the most comprehensive and interesting state museums I've visited. A bit pricey, but worth the money. Great in-depth exhibit on the history of the Ute tribes. Special events like the current baseball exhibit should always keep things fresh.
Rosanne Caravella
Was there for Tiny Tots concert. Children got to explore the museum after. It was very chill friendly and interesting
Peggy Smith
We visited the Center for Baseball. A great private collection of memorabilia. Do the parking next to the building. The staff was friendly.
Patrick Sterken
A lot of neat exhibits, quite a few of which are interactive, and a very friendly and helpful staff
TJ Strasser
I really enjoyed my trip to History Colorado. I was a bit hesitant to take company there at first assuming it was aimed for young families and elementary/middle aged children! Was I wrong or what! We ended up staying for about 5 hours with a delicious mid visit snack in the Cafe. We probably could have stayed longer if we weren't trying to avoid Denver rush hour traffic. The |any exhibits were designed to appeal to a lot of ages, we really enjoyed the four we visited!
Michael
4 floors of Colorado history...can easily spend the day and if you're a history buff, it's well worth it. There are several exhibits for children too. I went for the new Colorado beer exhibit which was good but I really liked the 100 things about Colorado which started with a prehistoric Arrowhead and ended with a glass cannabis pipe! Easy walking distance from Civic center station
Gina Evans
The content at the museum was very interesting, My kids and I enjoyed learning more about our state. I did, however, notice several visitors not wearing masks so I hope this improves in the future.
Roland Angerer
Very interactive museum with different exhibitions. I particularly liked the recovery of the history of the original inhabitants of Colorado - the Ute people. Their traditions and civilization is well depicted and explained and the effort to keep them alive and connect into today's world is well supported.
Equally, the hall with the 100 significant objects representing the history of Colorado is a marvelous and innovative idea.
Highly recommended for all visitors to Denver!
Paul E
What a great place to get some history with truly unique exhibits ranging from gold mining to skiing to baseball. The exhibit of Colorado history had some incredible pieces to include uniforms of famous generals to timeless flags each with a history of its own. Great place to explore! Great place to learn about the state as well!
Ben Corwin
Good time, lots of interesting exhibits, many of them interactive. It covers a lot of history and the growth of Denver, as well as the rural history of Colorado.
Jill Markwood
Heartbreaking to see the damage on a statue being stored there, caused by the riots from 2020.
Amanda Happel
Go! No really 4 floors of exhibits, lots of great information and interactive things to do, touch, even smell. Each exhibit has sanitizing stations.
Nemetis Aiza
Very nice place to learn about the history of Colorado, the distribution makes easy to keep the timeline and it is very interactive!
Marie Bock
We were able to visit for free because the had free admission on the weekends until election day. The museum was very informative. There was an exhibit that showed 100 items that represented Colorado.
Claire White
Great history museum with high-production exhibitions. Particularly liked the thoughtful interactivity in the Destination Colorado exhibit about Keota--great for kids. LOVED the a/v production on the Dust Bowl in Living West. Also liked the Play Ball! exhibit. The exhibit text is well written throughout.
We only had about 50 minutes to spend and definitely could have spent 3+ hours to look at all of the exhibits in great detail. They give a deep discount if you arrive late, which is nice. No museum professionals discount, though. Also gave us a pass to visit an historic site, but that was our last day in Denver.
Jose Diazdeleonambriz
This Museum is interactive and a must visit with your children. The top floor has a Lego room that is fun for the whole family... Well actually the entire museum is fun, yes i said fun. That i remember it had a Chicano room, Native American, Denver, and a 1800's pionner room and then some! Affordable and across the street parking lot.
Kevin Cummings
This is a really thoughtfully laid-out museum fun for all ages. Not living in Colorado, I learned so many things I couldn't believe it. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a day having a great time. The baseball exhibit was really intriguing not expecting to learn so much about famous players.
Veronica De Santiago
The History Colorado Center is AMAZING! We loved it and will be visiting again very soon.
Clinton Bellingar
Such a cool place! Lots of interesting history and artifacts from Colorado both old and new!
Tracey Kaplan
I was pleasantly surprised by how great this place is. It's beautiful, clean, friendly and on the day we went, quiet! It was a Saturday! It's interactive too so my 6 year old loved it. She went 2 days in a row! Loved all the Colorado info
John Vogt
The History Colorado Center is a pretty museum with a bunch of interactive exhibits where you can let your kids pretty much run free. It does have 4 floors of exhibits so it can take several hours. It covers everything from farming in the east to mining in the west to native peoples. I wish it had a few more exhibits and a little more depth to some subjects, but I really liked it.
A Google User
I forgot how much was in the museum!
Such a great place to go and there are exhibits there that I didn't even know were there. There's more to see there than you think. But I do admit that there is a lot there that seem like its more just for conference rooms and all.. but it is great.
Jessica Hernandez
Loved learning about Colorado history and was impressed with different real experiences activities, like skiing and driving one of the first Colorado cars, amazing mining elevator and so much more, children would have fun as well
Winnie Yu
Great place for learning a little bit about Colorado and would be fantastic for kids. I especially liked the Zoom 100 exhibit. There is free WiFi here. This place is also walking distance to other museums and learning centers.
Amanda Cadena
This is a wonderfully informative and interactive museum. You might not think it, but it is GREAT for kids. It's also extremely affordable on a budget. If you receive food benefits admission is only $1, just show your card. Kids are also free in the summer. Look for side street parking instead of the garage to save money if you don't plan on staying all day.
Sam Schroeder
Staff was fantastic. Exhibits are informative & interactive. Perhaps not a traditional museum but certainly a fantastic place for children or adults interested in learning about the history of Colorado. Great use of technology & a showcase for green energy initiatives.
mozelle golden
It was a lot of fun and very interactive. Me and my boyfriend went and we enjoyed learning about the history of Colorado. A lot of little kiddos on field trips but there was plenty of space to enjoy the museum on your own.
Sarah Malsom
4th grade feild trip- hands on
Amazing!
Angel Ruiz
Si van a Denver hay que visitar este lugar/ you need to visit this place of you visit Denver
Christopher Sellers
Much better than a history museum is expected to be! The kids had fun with several hands on activities. Lots to learn.
The children's museum is much more fun, but this had so much sparser crowds that I enjoyed it as a change of pace.
Katie Tuthill
Free on Saturdays for kids under 18 during the summer! Very interactive and lots of history.
Ken Young
As a native, it's so cool to have a place dedicated to the history of my home state. Don't forget to check out the charming gift shop. My dad loves historic Colorado photos, and I found two Colorado history photo books that I could find at any other bookstore in town.
Keith Lommatsch
Colorado is a fascinating place, and this museum showcases it. Particularly engaging are the Ute Indian Stories and history of Keota, Colorado. The beer exhibit seemed to be sponsored by Coors, but didn't really impress me. They're still doing construction, so, if you're hoping for a silent tour, you're out of luck. It wasn't very busy, which I think is sad for a state so rich in history.
grandpamang
Such a cool museum! You can get a beer at the cafe near the lobby and carry it around the whole place, you just cant take it into exhibits. They have tables near every exhibit entrance on each floor when you can set it and go check out the display. Really fun
Paul Markovsky
This place is awesome, worth every penny! I've never spent 5 hours in a museum before. The kids loved it too. There is a healthy mix of pictures, video, audio, stuff to see, touch, and interact with, and tons of great information if you take the time to read. It's the future of museums. It utilizes the best of today's technology to immerse you into history by interacting with the exhibits and following the stories of prominent characters. You can practice blasting walls in a mine, drive a car through the prairie, learn how to ski jump, divert water between reservoirs, and experience a dust storm.

Had a great time. Ages 37, 36, 19, 13, 11, 7, 5, and 4 year old, all had a blast. We spent 4 hours there, could easily stay longer but now we have a reason to return. We left for lunch and returned without a hassle. No private parking, parked on street and kept up with meter.
May Hresko
I only had an hour to see the museum, so I toured a couple of sections that I was interested in. I especially liked the exhibit called Building Denver.
Olof Bengtsson
Great place to learn about Colorado history.
A bit fuzzy in the structure but lots of information.
Justin T
Wonderful experience for anyone, but especially for kids. Our guide (Tom) was incredibly knowledgeable and really patient with a very large group of children. Currently there is a massive display of art on the upper 2 levels that is all done by middle school and high school students. The level of talent shown by these students is worth the trip by itself!
Marissa Van Kooten
I visited History Colorado for the first time in May on a field trip with my class of 4th grade students. Our tour guide, Angel, did an amazing job of engaging the students and explaining the exhibits we were able to go through. There are a variety of hands-on activities and experiences that brought history to life not only for my students but for myself and the other adults as well. Due to time constraints, we only scratched the surface, but I look forward to returning on my own to explore more of the exhibits.
Stephen Pack
Modern, engaging history museum, telling deep stories from several critical periods in the state's history. Range of interactive exhibits for adults & kids, with some good temporary exhibits. I don't fully understand why the very good Sand Creek exhibit was closed, hopefully it returns eventually.
Tamara Garcia
I spent the day here with my kids. We had a good time learning about the history of our great state.
Stephen Holst
This is not your typical history museum. It's great for all ages. There are so many interactive exhibits - not something you'd expect from a history museum. The huge interactive map on the ground floor is a lot of fun. You really need to go and experience this museum because it's like none other. It's not huge but you still need a few hours.
Justin Way
This is an OUTSTANDING facility with beautiful exhibits, friendly staff, and a wealth of information tracing back to the fascinating indigenous roots of Colorado up to the present. I particularly love the commitment to providing a balanced interpretation of history as well as promoting sustainability initiatives around the state. Everyone from, visiting, or moving to Colorado should visit this museum!
Grant Gabriel
Great experience. Awesome museum. Open my eyes to a lot of things in history for Colorado
Liz Skinner
One of the top museums I've been to! Everything was interactive so it was entertaining for kids as well as adults. I enjoyed the various exhibits, and I really liked the emersion of the beer, mining, farming, and internment camp exhibits
G Aquino
We're first time visitors and didn't really know much about Colorado's history, so we were delighted to see this museum show up as one of the city's top attractions when we were planning our trip.
After our visit, we can say that this is one of the best-curated state museums in the country, and really showcased what Colorado was, is, and could be. The themes and subjects are interesting - from local ecology, to life during the dust bowl, to beer-making (Coors, anyone?). Be sure to check out a diorama of the city as it was in 1860, showing the landscape and buildings in painstaking detail.
The most important subject, however, is PEOPLE, and the museum really did a great job of telling everyone's stories. You'll encounter the Ute people and that familiar story of land dispossession, homesteaders settling the High Plains, the war-time experience of the Japanese at a Colorado internment camp, African-Americans setting up Lincoln Hills to escape discrimination and hostility, Jewish people and how they helped transform the state's healthcare system, and Chicanos fighting for rights through activism.
Allot at least two hours to see the exhibits at a comfortable pace. There is a gift shop and a cafe on-site. We found paid parking at a garage along Lincoln Street, a 5-minute walk to the museum entrance.
Michael Hentrich
There are a lot of neat displays for adults and kids. We went recently when they had the Legoland and that was a lot of fun for the kids, as well as all the stuff on the first floor. The display about the japanese internment camp was really interesting. There's not a whole lot than one days worth here but it was still a great experience, especially if you can get a free ticket through the library.
Graeme Williams
We've been here several times and enjoyed it each time. This time we saw the interesting beer history exhibit and the fabulous "Colorado history in 100 objects" exhibit. Also the cafe and gift shop are fine.
Randie Bright
Absolutely loved it! Alot of exhibits on 4 floors. And totally dedicated to Colorado history. A must do while in Denver.
Nickie McCann
A very nice, recently updated museum. The museum is always changing with special exhibits. There are places in the exhibits specifically for kids that makes this a family favorite. Great display of Colorado history.
Dorothy Todd
First time to visit. Interesting display of John Denver memorabilia with video and music playing. Also an exhibit "Hecho in Colorado" with art work by Chicano artists from Colorado. Senior admission seems reasonable.
Courtney Ream
Really cool museum to learn about Colorado and its history. Parking is available on street at meters and there are parking garages around too. The price is affordable. Located next to good resturaunts and bars on Broadway. I recommend this place to all visitors.
Lizzie B
Best museum I have ever been to. Such a love letter to Colorado. Filled with loving quirks about Denver.
Robert Batesole
Our visit to the History Colorado Center was ridiculously underestimated. This museum has a wide variety of exhibits and interactive displays for all things Colorado and was well-worth the admission price. This is a great place for museum lovers to spend an afternoon!
Christie N
Very informative and interesting - definitely a go to in Colorado
Lise Donnelly
Very enjoyable, and packed with information about the history of Denver and Colorado into the present day. The exhibit on the history of the Ute people was particularly good.
Stephanie Prochaska
Really excellent museum, their exhibitions were so powerful and moving. It's a great way to learn Denver and Colorado history for all ages!
Leslie LESLIE BO BESLIE
Great place for a field trip. The 'Dust Bowl' video needs to be updated, so that it includes people of color. The students had a fabulous time though and our docent was great!
Rachel Shearer
I love History Colorado! Whether you're a native, a newbie or a tourist, this place is a must do for history buffs.
Elizabeth Doll
Stopped on a whim while on an 11 hour layover. Staff was professional, helpful, prompt and polite in spite of serving a jet-lagged tourist drenched in sweat and smelling accordingly (me).
Explored all four floors (sparingly) in 3.5 hours and learned a lot about Colorado’s history that I hadn’t known.
Plenty of tactile exhibits for children, detailed eyes-only exhibits for adults, and a floor dedicated to LEGO building tables.
A friendly security guard pointed me toward some exhibits based on my interests. Each floor was well thought out and transitions between subjects was smooth.
Jessica Greene
If you've never been here before, it's a great place to visit! The regular exhibits are great. I have been a little disappointed lately in the quality of the visiting exhibits, but overall it's usually a good time. Definitely plan a place to park beforehand!
Shekia J
We had the pleasure of visiting this museum last weekend. Very nice. Be prepared to be here for a few hours. I must say the parking options weren't that great. But it does not take away from this place. Enjoy.
Benjamin Spence
Kind of light on actual content but what is here is well done. I especially recommend the mine :)
Joseph Zordan
I thought this place was an excellent spot to spend a couple hours. Especially on a hot Denver afternoon. You can really get hooked up by using your Denver library card to print free tickets beforehand. The staff was very welcoming and the building is beautiful. The building is on the east side of Lincoln. Enjoy
Kyle Schlafer
Outstanding and engaging exhibits. Our family learned a great deal and had such fun. When we left all of our kids asked when they can come back. Excellent, friendly and helpful staff.
Austin Dibble
It's a nice museum
Brian Rossignol
Was, honestly, pretty meh. Enjoyed the 100 items exhibit, but overall it was fairly cheesy. We had $5 ticket coupons from the Byers-Evans house (which I recommend) so all-in-all it was pretty much worth the price of admission.
Jason Glynn
Came here Wednesday, braved the warzone that is the surrounding area, and was very happy with the museum...Friendly and helpful workers and great exhibits..Spent a couple hours and then some touring all 4 floors...Loved seeing the history of Colorado, especially the Ute exhibit everything to do with the old history of Denver and the surrounding areas...Feet were absolutely killing me later lol but was well worth it...Admission was $14 and I feel I got my money's worth...a worthwhile stop for those history buffs visiting Denver...
Gregory Allen
Very nice experience learning and remembering experiences of the states past. Nicely set up in categories for specific areas and cultures and era's of Colorado's history.
Pam Weber
Amazing place to spend the day. Best interactive activities we've experienced in any history museum! Use your AAA card and it's only $10 per person. How great is that!
Brian Carroll
Interesting exhibits with a nice focus on Colorado history without hiding from the ugly parts. If you have kids it's probably 5 stars with the interactive exhibits. About 2 hours to get through it.
J D
Got to give this museum a 5/5. Fantastic exhibits. Clean, wonderful building. Friendly staff. Learned a lot about Colorado for $10.
Ann Lara
Amazing museum with contemporary displays and exhibits. Clean and everything in order. You can tell the museum staff love their jobs and are happy to be sharing history with their community. A must for visiting Denver!
Stephen Humer
$14 for an adult, four floors, ~7 exhibits. I went at 2:30 on a Sunday and stayed for about two hours (closes at 5).
The history ranged from Keota, CO and the Dust Bowl to the Ute people and how they were displaced. It ended on a fun note with a beer exhibit and also had the A-Zs of Colorado and 100 items of Colorado. There was also a replica Model T, which I've never seen in person before.
Family friendly with a lot of activities for kids, although as a sologoer in his late 20s I had a good experience. Would recommend, generally.
Kerem Cantekin
Like all historical museums it was for me a paradise. There are nice interactive exhibits on diverse topic. You even experience a dust bowl strom and how it is to be inside of a mine elevator. The most interesting exhibition was however on Chicano movement which interestingly didn't have any interactive elements. One drawback is there was not much organized information on Denver. a to zero exhibition contains scattered information. Also the staff was a little rude.
Theresa Dolezal
I didn't know what my expectation was going into our visit but I was blown away by how awesome the museum is! We'll definitely be back.
Tyler Carpenter
I spent about 2 1/2 hours here, so less than half of the museum. I look forward to returning so I can spend a lot more time enjoying the parts that I did not yet see.
Katie Rollyson
It was a fun trip. Not crowded so b it felt like we had the museum to ourselves. The 100 things about Colorado history is cool!
Rafs GF
Great place to take kids. Went to get more of an understanding of Colorado history for my son's parcc tests. Lots of information and how people came to CO and how they survived. Interactive for kids, had great setups for them to play and learn hands on. There was a small grocery store they could buy stuff from and a chicken coupe where they could collect eggs and milk milk cow and go back to the store to sell their eggs. 4th floor was being remodeled so we were limited to first and second floors and some artwork on 3rd. Restaurant was good too. A little pricey for fries and chips but yummy food.
Entrance was 12$ for adults, 8$ for kids and 4 and under were free. Will go back once remodeling I done.
Zach Poulsen
This place is a great place to visit and there were almost no people here when we went. There is a ton do do and lots of interactive displays. If you are a Colorado resident I really encourage that you go here as there is a ton of information that is good to know and is not something that many people actually know.
alvin mena
Great experience and lot of knowledge regarding Colorado history and native american culture
R Allan Jensen
This is a new facility, and while I share a few of the feelings expressed in some other less than favorable reviews that have been posted, I see this place as having great potential. Obviously they need more funding to continue to grow and develop. This is a work in progress. I did enjoy the initial exhibits, some of which were imaginative.
I never found the old history museum all that satisfying -- they didn't have the facilities or resources to change much and I always had the feeling of "been there, done that."
Colorado's history represents a significant center of the West's development, which continues to this day. There is good and bad in that history. For every Sand Creek, however, there are dozens if not hundreds of wonderful events to present. And, while other facilities around town (ie. Mint, Museum of Nature & Science etc) tell many stories of Colorado and our past, this place needs to help weave those stories into their presentations, and not just tell folks to go see those other places.
I do hope that the new facility tries hard to avoid becoming a center of revisionist history, and tells more and more of the great and true stories of our State's history. If they do not, I will not be able to continue to support them.
James Russell
First-timer. Nice cross section of history and culture.
Sara Avitia
This is a very interactive experience! They have a virtual ski jump, an old time store with a cash register kids can play with and quilt puzzles and a play area for kids with a slide! My 6 and 3 year old boys loved it!
Jim Henderson
Fairly interesting museum, but somewhat sparse. We enjoyed the museum but it seemed like they were struggling to fill the space. Most of the exhibits seemed a bit chaotic -- even when we tried, we couldn't follow the sequence. All in all -- nice museum, but a bit pricey for the content.
Leslie L
Not the history of Colorado we were expecting, but the museum is very intformative and taught us new and interesting facts about the state. But we wanted more settlement and mining history, although the false mine shaft was pretty neat with the tools and techniques on display.
Faviola Martinez
Very interesting and beautiful museum.
Eve Rabinovitz
It’s ok. I think the exhibits are lacking in Jewish perspective. The exhibit about Denver was completely absent of any contributions from Jews. For a place that’s trying to be so “inclusive” ... they were not.
Steve Cabeza
Great place. I attended a special event there on the 4th floor and loved the food. I think the big, interactive "steampunk" machine on the ground floor that you can drag around a huge map of Colorado is fun, educational and engaging to any age.
Peter Johnson
They have excellent displays tracing Colorado history. The Baseball exhibit is a must see for baseball fans. The memorabilia that is displayed is awesome. We really enjoyed our visit.
Narmada Morris
Enjoyed an evening here for a gala! It is beautiful for an event, however the dining area can feel crowded and gets hot. Other than that I absolutely loved the main entrance and rooms outside to explore!
Demika Duran
HCC has done an amazing job adapting to the current COVID standards. At walk-in they provide cloth masks, if needed. They also supply you with a stylus pen that is very helpful for those high touch zone areas. Staff is always so helpful and friendly! Exhibits are full of history, information and most are interactive. Gift shop has some great finds too. Highly recommend!
Kevin Micke
This is not the boring type of history museum I remember being dragged to as a kid: I was really impressed with how well put together all the exhibits were. They're very good at making Colorado's history come alive and making it relevant to today.
Erik Laitos
Spectacular museum in a brand-new building located right in the heart of downtown. Chalk full of hands-on interactive exhibits and detailed information. Great for students, kids, and adults alike! Must see for all Denverites.
Parker
Recently visited with a friend. Had a good time. Very interesting exhibits and it was fun as a visitor to learn about Colorado.
Ephraim Becker
Very cool museum with a lot of cool effects and haptic feedback. My favorite is the 10-minute show on the second floor where one door opens automatically when the show starts and gives you 1 minute to get in there and automatically closes the door and tells a story of what its like to live in the west and automatically opens the door when the show is over.
Jake M.
This is a really amazing museum or should I say interactive exhibits what I love is the time machine which features a huge map of the state of Colorado that has screens that come alive and go back in time. Great learning for kids and adults
Sekhar Paladugu
We were incredibly happy with our choice of History Colorado as our wedding and reception venue. Its event spaces are beautiful, its price point was reasonable, and it is conveniently located just south of downtown Denver.
We held the ceremony in the central atrium, with its beautiful Colorado-themed art and imagery. There is a topographic state map on the floor, a vintage Colorful Colorado welcome sign on one wall, and an entrance to the museum exhibits on another wall. Our guests could visit the museum exhibits for the hour between the ceremony and dinner, which was a great way to incorporate the museum venue into our festivities. And while we were concerned that the acoustics would be problematic in the atrium, there were no issues.
We held the reception in the MDC-Richmond American Homes Foundation Terrace Room on the fourth floor. It has floor-to-ceiling windows on two walls and views of the city and mountains. There was plenty of space for our 170 guests to eat, drink, and dance.
At the reception, we opted for an open bar. History Colorado offers several tiers, and we went with the premium beer and wine option. It was more expensive, but definitely worth it for the better-quality options. One incredibly nice touch was that the History Colorado team told us they had leftover alcohol from a prior event, and they put together a special mixed drink for our reception at no charge.
Everyone we worked with at History Colorado was incredibly friendly and efficient. We are especially grateful to Natalie Schwab, the director of catering and event sales, who was our point person throughout the process. Natalie walked us through all of the details, met with us in the space multiple times to plan the perfect evening, and worked with us to make sure everything went as planned. In addition, the catering team was amazing—we loved all of the food we tried, which made it difficult to choose just a few options for the wedding reception itself! In the end, we went with chicken marsala, baked sweet potato with goat cheese, and gourmet macaroni and cheese. The dishes were all delicious and our guests raved about them.
Overall, we loved History Colorado as a venue and can’t recommend it enough to couples considering it as a wedding venue.
Jennifer Lonnes
Terrific that it's free admission on weekends u til Election Day 2020!
Guy at desk handling my admission was a little dictatorial in telling me how to wear my mask.
There is a box of masks at Entrance for those who may not have one. Hand sanitizer dispensers all over museum.
Not all exhibits were open or operating at a reduced capacity due to stupid Covid virus.
Van Manalo (You can do it too!)
Very informative. Three hours is not long enough if one wants to truly immerse and take time to read. I won't think twice visiting the place again. My favorite exhibit was the one about the Ute tribe.
Jacob Jenkins
I learned a lot about the State of Colorado that I did not know. The exhibits were relevant and gave me a lot to think about after I left. We will be going back again as the exhibits change. Great place to visit
Nick R.
I used to really like History Colorado back when they put in the Living West permanent exhibit. They would change exhibits more frequently. For the past year or more they have not changed their exhibits as much as what they should and they have not had a major exhibit. Denver has really grown in arts and culture and it is a shame the history museum is not up to par.
Forrest Bower
Absolute Must do for history buffs. I could have spent all day reading every piece of info on the wall, or watching every video. Truly amazing exhibits that bring history to life. The guided history audio extra is cool and worth it I thought, some parts were spectacilar, in particular the one for beer, however not amazing some of the time was when the audio was just spoken text on the wall. Only other complaint was it sonetimes was to loud to hear something because something else was making noise in the exhibit. Either way give yourself a day, amazing.
Jennifer Kate
Colorado history with a touch of class. They don't dumb it down for kids or adults, and the interactive exhibits are clever, like the ski jump and mining job. Beautiful halls are dressed in adobe, stone or wood. The dustbowl exhibit is a must see!! I cannot find anything to criticize here, it's a jewel in Denver's crown.
Saurabh Chawdhary
It is a great museum but I found that they tried to make so called 'interactive exhibits but went so far that the history part of the exhibits got obscured. You still get to see a lot but I would have preferred more 'raw' history so to speak instead of artifacts I didn't care for much.
Peter Downs
Museum exhibits reflective the diverse history of Colorado from the Utes to present day.
Rich Thuemmler
Cool museum with lots to do and see.
Jenn T
We were disappointed. My husband and I really enjoyed the previous Colorado History Museum, and thought the newly renovated one would be similar- it's not. Only two of the four floors have exhibits, which are spaced out and are not as appealing. The second floor is only half-open until later this spring, so wait until that portion is open to get more for your money. Most of the A-Z we had already experienced as Colorado residents, or didn't care about (like the zombies). I miss the exhibits from the old museum, and feel that our entrance fee was more likely to support and maintain the spectacular building, rather than the exhibits since there's not much there. We were done in over an hour, as it was not crowded. I'm hoping that they add more of what they previously had (dioramas, etc.) to the area on the 2nd floor when it opens. The museum fee, coupled with the drive to Denver and cost to park were over-rated and we won't be back.
Ryan Schneider
We were looking to kill time in Denver and stumbled upon this place. Had a great time. The kids spent hours on the first two floors, and I really enjoyed the art exhibit on the fourth floor.
Random Black
Great fun for kids or adults. The restaurant also had great food and friendly service.
Savannah Smith
Super interactive experience and great for kids and adults alike.
Lori L.
I went with my two young daughters, a friend and her son and we all LOVED this place!! An amazing, hands-on learning experience for all of us!! I thought we would stay an hour or two maybe and we were there over four hours!! So. Much. Fun.
Pamela Roberts
For an after school program this place is great! Steve L. has been a stellar host and gave us an incredible experience. The exhibits are interactive and kids can touch everything!
J. Garcia
First time here since it was remodeled. I highly recommend it for elementary age and up. There's a fun town with a slide; kids can select a character in the town and do their daily chores/jobs around the town.
Londa Coddington
The History Colorado Museum Offers Interesting Exhibits For All 4 Floors! Including A Very Large Board Game On The Main Level!
A Must Place To Visit, Especially For Tourists!
Jane Levine
Spent 4 hours there. Could have spent 8. Wonderful exhibits about Colorado history; doesn't shy away from the blemishes on that history. Go early, spend a few hours, have lunch, then go back & see more.
Mason Greene
Clean and very nice staff however, this place is very lacking in content and direction. Exhibits are all over the place and are minimal. This place is worth an initial visit but will never revisit. To any travelers, this doesn't do a great job at portraying Colorado.
Quill Mueller
I am amazed at the videos about the Japanese internment camps and the video on the sand Creek massacre. The down stairs is a fun interactive trip into the 1920s life in colorado upstairs there are many different things to do, a mine, Bents fort native Americans and so much more. I love the new space and it's changing!
Brooks Waldman
Denver Architectural Foundation's "box city Denver".........great experience for kids!
Denise M
I came here as a chaperone with my daughter's class. It's a great place to learn about our home state. Our tour guide was very friendly and we all learned so much from her. I'll be coming back here soon with my family.
Jeffrey Campbell
Book your event, seminar, retreat or workshop here! We had a great time. Delicious box lunch catering too.
Laura Montgomery-Hurrell (Dru)
A lot of interesiting exhibits, but felt mostly geared towards folk already familier with the state, and city, or to be viewed in conjunction with their other sites.
Loved the state moasic on the main floor - best viewed from above!
Staff were helpful and not bothered by a confused English-woman. Rest rooms were clean and automated, and there were water fountains available on each floor.
Collette McDonough
This museum is an excellent example of a history museum that has embraced the use of technology in its exhibits. My issue was that the museum seemed to center around children having fun and hands on activities which left little room for learning. When I was there with my family, all of us being adults, two of the five total exhibits were not open. I felt this was poor planning on the museum's part. The section on mining was interesting but was so loud you could barely hear yourself think. The exhibit that I enjoyed was Destination Colorado on the 1920s town of Keota. I think this museum should change its name to the Colorado History Center for Children because it seems it was designed for kids and from what I saw did not have something for everybody thus the three stars.
Andrew Kim
This place was pretty cool to experience. I love museums and history so they had some very interesting exhibits. For example, I did not know they had Japanese internment camps here and they had a very neat exhibit on that. Also, military gets in free.
Michael Petruccelli
For every excellent attraction such as the exhibit that highlights former mayor stapleton's Ku Klux Klan involvement, you have a large segment dedicated to the barrel man from the Denver Broncos stadium. Both of those exhibits are within 10 feet of each other, by the way. In all, the idea of having a History Center is extremely valuable. And indeed the history of the state of Colorado is multivariate and fascinating. Unfortunately the execution at this particular Museum even given it's amazing location is disappointing. I look forward to better exhibits more intelligently laid out in the future.
Jarrod Staggs
We didn't realize they closed at 5pm on Sundays and arrived at 3:30pm. Our entire family enjoyed it. We are planning our second trip and will make sure we have more time to spare.
Aaron Shoemaker
So much fun and great for a family day trip. We didn't have enough time to see everything and it was very informative. I learned a lot about Colorado. Definitely going to go back!
Linda Fazzari
Great museum. 1st 2 floors are very interactive and kid friendly. The exhibits become more serious upstairs, but all well done.
Kathy
We brought my sister-in-law visiting from Connecticut. The exhibits were presented very well, enjoyed learning so much and sharing with family.
Brad Cooksey
My first time at the History Center was awesome! Great display of historic baseball memorabilia. Loved all the Native American articles! Great experience!
Lee Deskins
If you like history you need to visit here. They have hands on exhibits mixed with video and of course plenty to read also. I thought they did a good job of handling Native American Indian and Chicano perspectives.
Loris Vel
I thought it was going to be boring. But certainly not! I had so much fun at this history center!
I learned a lot about history, I participated in interactive exhibitions!
I would highly recommend it!.
Eric Toro
Beautiful place, visited some years back but looking forward to visiting again.
Roger Witherspoon
Extremely well done with a mix of objects to view and objects to touch. You can get in an old Model T while the screen in front of you shows the trip through the Dust Bowl. There is a re-created house where you listen to a Roosevelt Fireside Chat while a sandstorm roars outside. They don't sugarcoat history. Discrimination against Hispanics; the depredations of the kkk, and the difficulties faced by women in a sexist society are all covered, as well as the many triumphs that make Colorado such an interesting and vibrant state.
Syrie Galbraith
We went on a firld trip to the museum, and they were so organized. We never wondered if a kid was lost, or where the bathrooms were. My son came home having learned a lot and wanting to go again.
Sally Long
I think it is one of the best Meuseum I have ever visited.
Richard Denno
Great muesum for kids and adults. Staff was not very enthusiastic, but the display s were good. Being place for kids to learn means that some of the interactive displays might not work due to the enthusiasm of kids. The leggo display was great
Cindy Carmon
Having a great time with the kids. The cafeteria is tasty and has gluten free bread for sandwiches. I ordered a chicken sandwich that was served with fried pickles on it. However the fried pickles are not gluten free. I caught it before I ate it and they corrected the problem immediately.
Eric Anderson
This is a great place to take the 5-15 year old kids. Fun interactive exhibits and always something fun for the adults too! We love going.
Ashleigh Martinez
Large museum filled with plenty of artifacts. The exhibits feature powerful and important stories of women, minorities, and other marginalized people.
Derian Palma
Lot's of Colorado history! Giant as well.
Annette J
Went here yesterday as a chaperon for a 3rd/4th grade school group. The staff was wonderful. The building is beautiful and clean. The exhibits are extremely interactive and great for kids.
Some of the best exhibits:
1. A huge rolling "time machine" with videos that you roll over a huge map embedded in the floor.
2. A yearbook from 1918 that you can put your picture in after "photoshopping" your hairstyle to look like it may have at that time.
3. A cow that when you pull her "udders" makes the sound of milk going in a can.
4. Wooden eggs that you harvest from the chickens and take to the market to sell.
5. A hay loft with a slide.
6. A Model T Ford that you "drive" through the country side.
7. A mining shaft you "ride" down into the mine.
8. A wall of "explosives" you use to "blow up" the mine.
9. A ski jump simulation from Steamboat.
10. Replica "Barrel Man" barrels you can put on.
There are many more exhibits, but those are the ones the kids enjoyed the most. This is not your typical boring history museum. However, I'm not sure how much the kids actually learned about Colorado history since they were so busy doing stuff. I think it would have been better if we hadn't been in a school group and could have taken more time reading the information near the exhibits. Perfect for kids under the age of 13 or those who are truly "young at heart".
Raghad
Colorado history museum was a great experience to learn about Colorado. However, it wasn’t that fun for kids (I went there with my son’s middle school field trip).
Julia Kim
Fun and educational exhibit. Recommend at least 2 hours.
Jason Wissner
An excellent museum with lots of great information and education about Colorado and its history. I would definitely visit again even though there aren't a large amount of displays
Nichelle Pyles
A very nice and elegant museum. Everyone should go visit. I had fun.
Mikey P
Tons of stuff to do and see here. You can learn a lot about Colorado and it's history. Plus other special events go on here too.
My family👨👩👧👦 and I went here this particular day to an awards ceremony for the "Scholastic art🎨 and writing✒ awards" for Colorado. She got a "Gold Key" award🥇 form Scholastics and a $100💵 scholarship from the "Colorado watercolor society". 😊 now she's going to get her art juried to see if she can get into the national competition in New York🗽 at the Guggenheim.
I'm sure you can check out all the up and comings on there website via Google maps.
Archie
nice museum about the history of Colorado and denver
Enrique Reyes Dominguez
Definitely a must-visit spot in Denver.
The focus this museum gives to minorities in Colorado is awesome. Representation matters.
TaxForward and Future Tax Leaders
Future Tax Leaders held its 3rd National Conference at the HCC on Nov 21-22, 2019. HCC was very easy to work with from start to finish, the staff exceedingly professional and always cheerful-even through a snowstorm, their services were flawless, the food was fantastic, and the center is gorgeous. It was such a pleasure to meet so many smiling staff and hear why they enjoy working with HCC – a lot of it came down to giving to the community. Our experience was so delightful, we look forward to holding more events at the HCC!

Excellent exhibits from every corner of the state. Immersive dust bowl and centennial experiences. Really neat interactive display about the CO watershed too. Worth the $8.

It is bewildering why this institution is named the way it is, because in this context, the word "History" would generally be the main adjectival noun to modify "Center", with "Colorado" used as a supporting adjectival noun, thus should appear as "Colorado History Center." As it is, History Colorado Center does not roll off the tongue, and is in grammatical disagreement with the generally accepted adjective order in the English language. In any case, this place offers a selection of Colorado-specific history exhibits (Or are they history-specific Colorado exhibits?), and is a fun destination for kids.

Lot of hands on things to do with a lot of information about the diverse populations of Colorado. Really great museum!
Chelsea Tucker
Excellent Museum. Staff were super friendly. So much there that more than one trip is definitely required!
Harper Nonna
An awesome museum to get Colorado history info. It touches base from the settlers and indigenous peoples to modern day history like barrel man and south park.
Jason Bach
This was my second time to the center. This time I came specifically for the history of beer exhibit. Great thing to see. The center is a fabulous thing to see with the exhibits rotation making it different each time I have gone.
Kathryn Stewart
We saw the Native Land presentation of the Ute communities. Very interesting. We now want to check out the other Ute museums in the History Colorado system.
Brennan Sullivan
A great museum for kids, with a neat interactive 1800's "town" on the main level where kids can pretend to be farmers, teachers, shop keepers and more. Make sure to go upstairs for the "Colorado A-Z" exhibit!
Dave Mangold
A great interpretation and presentation of both Denver and Colorado History.
Parking in nearby deck is reasonably priced.
Damian Higham
Great museum with lots of interesting stuff for kids and adults
Jonathan Fisher
Cool colorado history museum. We went to one of their monthly Lego building workshops. Very cool. 4 levels, each floor has different colorado based history. I'll be back.
Janell Bartlett
Great experience. Learned quite a bit about Colorado. Would highly recommend a couple of hours.
Derek Sarbou
It is a pretty sparse museum. They have a lot of space for exhibits but only one per floor. Only one of them were really interesting enough to spend any real time at.
Ryan Gibson
Small but worthwhile museum. The first floor had a really fun hands on exhibit for our kid, and I'm a big fan of the succinct "100 objects" exhibit.
Michael Kouremetis
Phenomenal, interesting exhibits.we spent like 4 hrs in it.
Not at all crowded.
Kelly Landreth
Thank you for hosting the president of PETA's (Ingrid Newkirk) speech! It was wonderful and progressive. Animal rights will certainly go down in history as a battle won so what better place to host this event but in a history museum!
Ashley Tielbur
So many floors and things to look at. Definitely amazing and will be back to enjoy again
Christina Vlachos
Couldn't believe we spent 4 hours here, but it didn't feel like it. Got a good crash course in Colorado history.
Ashley Kennedy
Amazing. Kids love it. We love it. So much to see and read and very interactive/interesting for the kids. Everyone is so nice too!

Best knowledge Colorado has to offer for history the stunning actress displaying a moment in time that comes so real to see. The enjoyed company of her voice draws you closer and closer every note that I hear. The striking compelling voice that I just see every time I'm in there. A woman of the name Lonnie McCabe plays as a young girl slave . Whose family headed for the mountains to be free . No matter the lengths it took or time that pasted. Creating a safe environment for all people that were held against their will. Could come and grow as an brave individual or courageous leader family also. Her story opened my heart and and listened in my mind. Realizing the amouth of growth and how much I need to appreciate more. Cant wait until the next time ny family and I take a tour!!!! Thatsbk history museum. Been real!! ✌🤟🙏👏

Interesting museum about Colorado history.
I really enjoyed the Sand Creek Massacre Exhibit.
The lobby presented a John Denver Exhibit.

One of the coolest museums in the denver area. My wife and I attended on Oregon Trail night and was not disappointed. Friendly staff, awesome facility and surprised to learn about the restaurant on site.
Christina Williams
Out of all the museums we went to on our trip, this one was our favorite. So many good exhibits and interesting artifacts. Would go back in a heartbeat

A beautiful and pleasant setting, particularly for the Zero to 100 Exhibit of historical artifacts of Colorado. Enchanting items, well displayed...loved it! As my husband said, "I thought you would like this!" 😁 …

Isabella and I had a great time, learning about our state history and checking out local students art. And enjoyed a very nice lunch at the museums cafe.

We are members, there is always something new. I moved to CO. in 2013 and enjoy exploring, learning about it's history. We visited with our grandkids a few times, there are a few things they enjoyed.

Been there a number of times, always with young (5-10yrs) kids. Nice mix of interactive things for the kids, as well as detail for the adults, with great diversity.
