Reviews of Four Mile Historic Park

This is a really neat place to visit here in the Denver area. Lots to see, do and learn! I've been here twice for different events. This site is very similar to Rockledge Ranch in Colorado Springs, which is also worth seeing/experiencing! It seems that the parking lot here at 4 mile historic park is under a bit of construction, so be mindful of the parking situation. Come check out some interesting Denver/Colorado history!
Remember.... Stay Whimsical my fellow wanders!👋😁💚
Aaron H. Bennish
Excellent historical site. The term 4 mile is used since wagons stopped and passengers rested. Transportation was by wagon prior to the railroad from Denver to and from Missouri. The location is the closest rest stop next to Denver.
The docent gave us a free private tour of the houses, which were joined in 1882.
The older house is a 2 story log cabin built in 1858. Inside the logs are visible. The larger brick house was added in 1882. Completely restored on the inside with many of the original features. Outside are a large wagon used for transportation prior to the building of the railroad to Denver and a smaller wagon, shown in the photo. Restored free standing summer kitchen. Barn with friendly farm animals. Bee house has activities for children. Very worthwhile tour.

My kids and i walk through here once a week to see the cochen chicken. Its a great place to get professional pics done too. Most of the buildings you are able to walk through but i think they close during the winter season
Cynthia Wabo
Great place for a pumpkin patch festival event displaying all the historic activities/buildings and food. The band was amazing. Kids had a blast!!!
Tania Martin
This place was a lot fun. We experienced a relaxing walk around the property. My kiddos enjoyed visiting the animals. The historic house is amazing.
Rebecca Whitney
We really enjoyed our visit to Four Mile! I always enjoy historic house tours, and our knowledgeable docent made it even better. The farm animals they have on site made the visit even more great! Overall, well worth the price.

Went for Halloween event on the 22nd. It was extremely dark!! there were barely any lanterns, even though one of the gimmicks was "lantern lit paths" we couldnt see anything most of the time. the tickets were really expensive, but the only free stuff was sparkling water, victorian coffin plate- just a metal plate that you hammer words in yourself and a corn husk doll which I didn't get to make. And the funeral was just a very cramped room and a lady in costume discussing it. The drinks and food were also very expensive. (The museum itself looks cool, this review is mostly for the event I attended)

This is a beautiful place. Takes you back to the 19th century. Make sure you take the walking tour. We went to the 4-mile house with our friendly guide, Laura, who was a fountain of knowledge. My boyfriend and I are history buffs, so we naturally asked a lot of questions and Laura was patient with us and answered all our questions. The items in the house are wonderful. I definitely recommend the tour because you will never get a chance to see the awesome stove they used in the 1890s along with the kettle that weighs a ton! Apart from the four mile house, we also saw the root cellar, blacksmith's shop, the barn with the horses, sheep and chicken. You will see bunnies and rabbits roaming freely everywhere in and around the area. It is great for families with children and adults alike! The staff are very friendly and were always happy to be of any assistance. We were lucky to see some re-enactment of Civil war on the premises. I recommend this place to both citizens of Denver and to tourists - it is a wonderful slice of history, very carefully preserved by some wonderful people that is a must-visit.

the good:
- Santa and Mrs. Clause here: 10/10. awesome. definitely the best part.
- food trucks (turkish food and american bbq) also 10/10. had a turkish chicken wrap that has me drooling just thinking about it. and waffle fries from the bbq place.
- actual chestnuts, roasting on an open fire. free to try and quite tasty. (and it was a 20 degree night, so jack frost _was_ nipping at our noses)
- kid crafts were good - but the space to do them was small/not great if theres a crowd
- no lines - we hardly had to wait for santa, skating, food, drinks, etc. plenty of space outside to wander around.
- some horses, pigs, goats, chickens.
not so good:
- the synthetic ice (plastic) for skating is a joke/deathtrap - dont waste your time here, find real ice to try out skating.
- the smores kits ($6) had the worst marshmallows ive ever seen. they were hard as rocks (think: freeze deied marshmallows in lucky charms cereal). one shattered like glass when i tried to skewer it. dont bother, or BYO
- the hot chocolate had an odd flavor - could be just me - like maybe they used nesquick and im used to swissmiss.
things we didnt do, so im not sure:
- indoor shopping,
- scavenger hunt
- live music
i think other xmas options around denver are a better value, this one was ok. depending on which parts you're interested in could be 5/5 stars :)
...tiny tots, with their eyes all aglow...

Lots of interesting things here to see. Very historical houses and building's. Plenty of older working tools.
Kristen Knowles
Getting the docent tour was definitely worth our wait. She shared a lot of great information about the property and those that lived here. If you don't have the opportunity for a docent lead tour of the main building you can catch some great information from the video playing in the visitors center.
My 11yo enjoyed seeing a historical how. With all the details and mining for some gold.
Susie Arnold
A fun historical place to visit, walk around and learn. This is family friendly and kids will love the animals they have there
Jennifer Tab
The kids had a blast! We got there just in time to tour the inside of the Victorian house. It was hard for the kids not to touch everything. But they still had such a great time. We were able to explore the property after the tour, fed the chickens, who were inside so kind of hard. But that was on us, the weather was cooler out. They visited the goats and horses, rang the big bell. Just had fun exploring. They have picnic tables for folks to bring their lunch. The ladies at the counter were super nice and engaging, the tour guide was as nice as it appears she could be. But still had fun.
Ashley Runyan
It is a great place to bring kids. You can feed chickens and pet goats. They have wagon rides and are really affordable. Also a cute place to host special events!
John Jaramillo
It was a great time, it was cool looking at the original home built in the 1800's an still standing strong. Great place to learn about an amazing part of Colorado history.
Laura Holder
Company picnic at Four Mile was a fantastic place for a group event. The set up was perfect tables in an open grass area surrounded by this historic park's main attractions; the original settlers home, their flock of hens, pigs and all the other settlers working hustles. The black smiths barn, where they churned butter, a well original covered wagon. It was a interesting and educational event and it allowed all of the employees to be engaged. We had a full bar set up in the show hall, food was fair up decent. Great Staff. Saw a bull snake. No place to wear sandals (pea gravel gets in your shoes and the whole snake thing) Grass was pretty tall, could have been moved and the honeysuckle was vastly throughout ad that drew in the bees. Constantly combating the bees flying around.Overall a nice venue and loved learning about its history. I've lived here since 1983 and had no idea this little gem was in the middle of glendale; it felt like we removed from the city. Nice little day trip for a staycation.
Ma Muting
It was my birthday, blessed to spent it at Four miles historic park with him. Its a adventure! Mystical Snowy Wonderland In farm style with pigs, sheep, goats, horses and a cat. Thank you for having us, Mandy and Karl.
Gwen Hay D'Elia
We visited for the first time during the pumpkin festival — it was great! We loved all the vendors and the history, and we’ll totally be coming back.
James Tvarek
Summer Concerts at Four Mile Historic Park are marvelous. I saw “Take Down the Door”, an Irish group and had a wonderful time: outdoor picnic dinner, grassy lawn, good sound, not too crowded. A big parking lot but when that is full you have to park on the street and for some reason the city has “no parking” signs up... just wish the city could allow parking close by
Kim Montenegro
Went to December Delights. It was a nice trip close to home. The hot chocolate was horrible but the fries were delicious!
Laurie Sine
They have very friendly staff. The old stagecoach stop/house tours are every 10 minutes and very interesting. We loved the barn with old buggy and stagecoach. A school field trip there that day had dressed in old time outfits which made it more fun for us as they played and their teachers walked about. In early April the garden areas were not planted so we may have to do a summer visit.
Erlen Marsh
A little bit of history to visit in our own backyard! A great place to have a festive gathering!
April Damon
Went here for daughter's field trip. Very educational, wish staff was maybe a little more friendly ! But a very cool place
Izzy Isbell
Great little spot to walk around and learn the very unexpected historical value behind its Fence & the true origin of Early Denver development.
Sharon Lisberg
We took the kids to December Delights and wow! What an amazing setup! Tons of charming and interactive activities in a beautiful setting. We have been to the usual zoo and botanical lights holiday stuff and this blew them away. Highly recommend!
Justbeing Honest
Pumpkin festival was a hit this year. Very cute and simple park. Hidden in the middle of the city
BA R
A great place for kids and families, as well as field trips for students! A fun and immersive way to learn a little bit about some local history. They also put on very fun events, like bluegrass festivals in the summer!
Mark Radtke
I discovered this place by accident, and it instantly charmed me. A surprising gem hidden in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. Holly gave a wonderful and informative tour. I’ll be telling all my friends about the park.
Amberlynn Dahling
Beautiful historic venue that takes you away from the hustle n’ bustle of the city. Black light goat yoga here was stellar! Spacious, clean, and excellent natural lighting. Excited to attend events here in the future.
Misty K
This is an amazing little spot, hidden away right in the middle of a big city!!! The exhibits are well displayed and the selection of artifacts is beyond extensive! The history here runs deep and true. I hope to be able to visit for years to come, this is really a priceless place.
I did go on a free day, and unfortunately there were two mothers yesterday that apparently birthed monsters and didn't care to control their offspring at all. The Volunteer staff of the park were angels of patience and dealt with the disrespectful kids with great aplomb, and I tried not to let it ruin my visit. Otherwise, absolutely wonderful!!!
Myke303
We visited the park for Kidtopia this past weekend. Granddaughters had a wonderful time. Loved seeing the farm animals. The main building has beautiful quilts to see and history boards to read.
Marlena Cook
We went to the Fall Pumpkin Festival with the kiddos. Great atmosphere and loved the people dressed up. Didn't get to the wagon ride and we wished we had remembered to bring the wagon so we could haul all our pumpkins out. We are defiantley making this a part of our fall traditions and can't wait until the kids are older to understand more of this history.
ismael novela
It was great, the staff is awesome with the kids, the activities, and the information. It would have been nice if the entrance pathway was a plowed, and if the ice rink would have been roped off so people would know not to walk on it, to prevent falls. But still a great experience.
S. Trujillo
This is a great place. My kids really like it too.
Tip: The membership is definitely worth the cost if you pay attention to when the "member preview" days are for their fun seasonal events.
Nancy Jex
Wonderful little spot to go back in time in the middle of the city. This is a wonderful little museum and outdoor place to explore Colorado's history. Great little fieldtrip.
Nina Phillips
Lovely grounds with three resident horses, a goat... Trails surround park so very open, rural feel. Historic educational tours available...
Nathan Macaluso
Had a great visit at Four Mile Historic Park- we did goat yoga and I noticed there were other activities that would be fun to bring kids. I recommend looking at their website for a calendar of events.
Cassandra Levens
We went for a goatflix. We had a blast!
B.M. Polovoy
It was a wonderful family friendly holiday experience that is far more conducive to social distancing than other activities. Although there isn't as much going on, it was almost like you have your own private farm with Christmas lights to enjoy.
Carlos F Vilchez
This place is amazing! Can’t wait to visit again! ❤️
Mim Sicles
This place is beautiful and peaceful! Not to mention the rich history it has.. there are farm animals so its great for kids too. If anyone wants to get away from the city for a bit I recommend them come here.
Mike Jenkins
Great little piece of history right outside of Denver. Reasonably priced.
Sheine Derleth (DJ Parks)
Some of the best art ive seen in Co yet
Iracema Patton
Great place..great people. It got busier with time. Even the preparations for a wedding were happening it used to be such a busy place a few yrs.back when they had wagon rides I even got to see the main old house..it is amazing. It is a place with so much history it is worth to go see it
Jose Vega
Great place to take your kids to. My children had so much fun with the baby goats and one particular black horse that is just the friendliest. I highly recommend it.
Joshua White
It's fun, but it lacks consistency in keeping thr attention of the kids. The field trip allotted 3 hrs for exploration, playing, and learning and everybody was already done within 90 minutes and looking for stuff to go back to. I am going to guess this place has probably been hit hard due to the pandemic as far as funding and manpower, so I am very sympathetic and wish this place to continue on.
Elisse Kenaley
Great place to spend a couple of hours. Make sure to check their hours before you go! I remember going here on a field trip in elementary school and it was a lot of fun to return as an adult. The guides are very friendly and accommodating. I had my daughter (less than 1yr) with me and they made sure we were able to participate in everything. Wonderful experience.
Whitney Martin
Great experience at the pumpkin festival. I recommend buying VIP
Eric Miller
This was a very interesting and historically significant site and the tour was great! The staff keep it in excellent condition. It would have been a shame for this property to not be preserved and we are great ful that it was and we were able to visit and learn about its history.
Chris R
Nice to see a farm in the middle of a city but it needs some TLC and a bit more to do. Got in free due to a special event but probably wouldn't pay to go back TBH.
Elizabeth Johnson
What a great place! We went to the drag easter event and man, just so much fun and everyone working the event was brilliant! Absolutely impressed!! 😘 …
Becca Stuart
Very educational and was nice to get to pet the horses
Adam Barrientos
Went on a field trip to this place and I actually really enjoyed it! It was a nice time to be outside and learn a little bit of Colorado history (I'm not a native so I learned a few things!). The staff was VERY friendly and good with the kids that were there! There were multiple schools but they treated all of the groups with care and great attention. I'm sure it's a usual visit for Denver students but if you ever have time to go on your own I would recommend it! It's a nice mini-getaway from the city life in a sense.
Spencer
I had to go here for a college class one time and fell in love with it. I think it’s a great place for all ages and especially during these times it’s open air which is great. I think it’s a great place for dates, history buffs, and kids. They do have a free day once or twice a month which is great, I love Free Things todo in Denver.
A Cruz
Excellent place to visit and know about Denver History
Jim Foglio
Went on a free day; students loved it. Gold panning was shut down for Winter still. Perfect for 2 hours or so.
Marisa Noble
We went for the Spirits and Spirits event and had a blast!
Donna Rigney
What an interesting historic piece of Denver! This historic park located on the banks of Cherry Creek, not far from downtown Denver. You can find the oldest standing structures, visit pioneer exhibits, special events, and go on a guided tour. If you have kids, they will enjoy seeing farm animals. Nice spot to spend time with family especially in the summer.
Natasha Dearness
My sister had her graduation party here. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The venue was a perfect place for a small family gathering and was beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous but we unfortunately didnt have time to see them.
S Robinson
Really neat experience. Lost a star as horse handlers left loose of the draft horses (two of them, hitched together, 2,000 lbs a piece, not hitched to the wagon) and they barreled down the path toward all of the school groups. It was fortunate that there were no people on the path or this might be a different sort of review - those horses were not listening or stopping. Otherwise it was a great experience. My one issue (other than stampeding horse teams) was that there were multiple school groups including our own, and the lunch/picnic area only had three picnic tables, leaving a handful of kids at tables and the remainder sitting on logs at the perimeter.
Devin Scheer
A lovely place to take the family or host an event. Awesome staff, location, and themed events.
Kyle Westgard
Always enjoy visiting and we learn something new each time. Thanks volunteers!!!
Suz Altorafi
Spirits and Spirits was a very fun and wonderful event. The food was great I was catered in from different restaurants they serve wine and beer which was nice. I love the scallops the best. It wasn't crowded which I enjoyed. There were a few different things that you could participate in and I like that especially the tarot reader she was amazing and she had really great energy.
Cornelius M. Booker
Took a little trip to Four Mile Park and really enjoyed it. We took a trip back into history and the Tour Guide, Mark, was great and while dressed in period grab, he explained what took placed in at 4 Mile Park and how it applied to Denver.
Historical buildings and things to do for the kids. No dogs are allowed.
Josh B
This beautiful little gem is an oasis in the urban sprawl. With the addition of community gardens, Four Mile Historic Park is huge blessing for the surrounding area.
Stephen Holst
This is a fun little park that is great for kids. It's usually pretty quiet and you typically have the place almost all to yourself. We always had fun playing in the tee pee. Don't forget to get a pan to pan for some gold. They have great festivals in the fall and at other times during the year. I think kids under 6 are free too so look into that.
Neil Leckman
If you want to go back in time to a place that sits alongside the creek. There was a small bar in the main house for travelers to take a break from the heat of the day and enjoy the cool shade. I would suggest the tour because they really help envision how life was here when Denver was in its infancy. Long before air-conditioning and indoor plumbing. We went on a hot day so when you step down into a cellar you can really feel the difference in temperature.
Zenab Rangwala
A wonderful experience for a field trip!
GMJ
Beautiful area with rich history and a great venue for gatherings. If you have time check out the first house established in Denver.
Eddie Morales
Jammin 101.5 was amazing Free tickets from them
Ashley Berkley
This is a fun place to take the fam when you wanna slap the phone out of their hand. To reminisce a time when you didn't have to see everyone's vacation photos on the gram because you were all busy surviving!
In all seriousness though; it's fun, cheap and the kids will love it so they'll actually put the friggin controller down and go outside for once!
It's more fun if you go when they're open, A field trip isn't the full experience.
If you're genuinely interested in how ppl lived back in the day they give guided tours and dress up. They also have live animals they care for too so you can feed them if you want.
I recommend having your kids do the farm chores. Give them the gift of gratefulness.
Jeff Sanders
Enjoyed a very nice Wednesday outdoor concert. All ages got to be comfortable or roam, plenty or space and easy to bring in food and drinks. Sunsets right behind band stage and cool Colorado breezes are the best in mid July.
Anthony Pachelli
This place is really cool. We have taken school kids there on field trips a couple times and there is a lot to do and learn. Animals to see, we made butter, hose drawn wagon rides and much more, a great place to take the kids.
Marie Bock
We enjoyed the morning out at Four Mile Historic Park. There are horses, chickens, and pigs. There is also a root cellar. The Cherry Creek trail is next to the park.
James Schwab
This is a great late 1800' s style ranch, compete with goats, chickens, and horses! Very informative and ideal for those who love "living history" sites. A must-go for those who want to learn more about the early settlements of Denver. They also accept volunteers and school groups.
Amanda Warren
$5 per adult with 12 acres or land and a museum. So beautiful and peaceful, we will definitely be doing this again!
Beth Lin Johnson
Fantastic Venue for a Private Event! The kids enjoyed it too!
Karen McGrath
What an amazing place!!! Not to be missed...
Genevieve Langford
Wonderful preservation of historical Colorado homestead. Unfortunately they're unable to give their usual tours and demonstrations for the time being due to Covid-19. I still recommend checking it out!
Angie Carmichael
This is a great place to take your dog. We went there and ate some dinner at the picnic table. There are awesome trails and a gift shop indoors. This place has horses and conducts tours.
Scott M
This is a great little historical gem located right in the heart of Glendale (Denver). Admission is reasonable and volunteer tour guides make this an interesting place to visit. Learn about early Denver pioneers and life in Denver's infancy. You can even pan for 'gold' and walk through a trapper's cabin. They have many wagons and horse-drawn farm implements to view, including a chuck wagon to explore.
Sometimes they offer hay rides, campfire stories and seasonal events (July 4th, autumn festival) so check out their website.
Tip: Take the guided tour for exclusive access to the oldest standing building in Denver (the original residence) as the building and all it contains is off limits to individual visitors.
Master Seed
Really great park, also the staff is great. We did some work for them and the ladies that run this place are extremely knowledgeable and so very nice. This is a cool park! Had no idea it was co close!
Karina Chavez
I literally live right across from this beautiful hidden gem!! Awesome to workout when you’re tired of the indoor gym. People are friendly as they pass by and bikers are respectful when they pass you up.
Chuck Hess
Amazing place for history! Perfect for kids, beautiful wedding or special event venue, and great living museum. Right smack in the middle of the city!
TonyRay Flores
Awesome tour for those who would like see what life was like for a few in the 1840-60's, the tour guide was very informative and passionate and well dressed for the time period, great experience.
John Hudson
What an amazing place that takes you back 150 years in time right in the heart of Denver. Amazing and friendly staff and a must see for residents and visitors of Colorado. You won't be disappointed.
Ross Herrera
The tour was informative and the lady guiding it didn't just memorise a script. She new what she was talking about and you can tell she loves talking about it. The problem is that there is not much to do there after the tour. The place feels empty and abandoned.
desiree selman
It was a great learning experience. The kids had a great time there. I would like to go back during Halloween because they show you how the Pioneers celebrated Halloween
Nikhil Srivatsa
Really interesting and totally worth the $5 entry fee. You get a guided tour of the oldest building in denver and you get to walk around a place that makes you feel like you live in the frontier.
Kevin Case
Tour of house was very well done. Docent knew everything about Colorado in addition to entire history of house and area. Good job!
Danny Daniloff
I love this place. Have enjoyed walking along the Cherry Creek bike path for years. Four Mile HP is a hidden gem.
Emily Ann Eloi
Absolutely amazing place! We will go back and soon. Hope this wonderful historical place stays restored for many more generations to come. It's the whole reason Colorado exists!
Mark Lesan
Have only been I side the museum once. The people there are very inviting and helpful. I would consider returning with a friend to enjoy the guided tour or some other event.
Rae Black
Beautiful. A nice pit stop when biking, lots of trees, benches for relaxing and reflection, close to Cherry Creek stops and shops. 5 Ginger Snaps for beauty and quiet.
Frank Campbell
I love the big draft horses and especially Pearl the angora goat. She is really cool! There is often a nice 4th of July celebration.
Carol Donahue
When you are on a long bike ride, this is a great place to pull over and have a snack, beautiful and quiet. It's a great place with a covered pavilion and tables.
Mahesh Gudivada
Parking was all gravel, but the place is good for field trip.
Ana Carolina da Fonte
Great place to visit with children. You feel like you go back in time and in the country side, when you're inside a big city. Plus kids 5 and under are free of charge.

Katie Rollyson
This was such a fun place for a field trip!

I loved on one of my friend trips of seving water to find gold got the biggest piece of gold out of the hole school and the butter and history of how butter is made it also was so delicious with some crackers and then we learned about how the prioniers used wagons for amny reasons and lsat we did like a type of games one where your in a corn bag and your trying to jump to the other side but you can't move at all as and we also did a tuhg of water for teaching about history this is a great opportunity for a fun and learning feild trip for the school or calss

Charming little walk with my boyfriend. Cute gift shop as well
Kimberly Bingaman
Such a cute park! I love the animals and it's gorgeous
Jack Downs III
I thought the staff was very limited in what to do for the kids that I was chaperoning a field trip. I blame that more on the school/teachers than the park. It was a bunch of kindergarten students. This was not a well thought out activity.
Dan Lee
Nice n peaceful trail to walk. But plz keep n kind when out on our beautiful trails . GIVE A HOOT DONT POLLUTE.
Pax Transwitch
Fantastic historic location and we'll kept grounds, wonderful venue and helpful staff

Cool historic park that reminds us we are doomed to repeat the past if we do not make changes, so get ready to churn that butter.

Very historic, impressive what was done here in the past and what they have done to keep it up.
Make sure to see and visit with "Pearl"!

Great place to come anytime to see the historic house, but particularly good for seasonal events. A time machine pocket among Glendale.
