Reviews of Clyfford Still Museum
I brought a group of 12 students here. If you're a school or big group, call them and they will have someone show you around! My school didn't do that, but my students still loved it and were all asking parents to go back during our spring break. I loved the art and wish I had more time to see everything. But the cost was super low, and it means I'll be coming back!
An extensive collection of one of the great yet somewhat unknown abstractionist, Clifford Still. There are many works too big to fit anywhere but a gallery. Lots of sketches, notes and other personal items that Clifford kept for the most part out of the public's eye.
A very well thought out museum in an architecturally interesting building.
Lovely museum, interesting building, helpful staff. Due to the size of the collection so many works are not displayed, but they rotate some in and out regularly from what I understand. Go with an open mind and some time to kill!
Beautiful museum with clear layout. No description for paintings - leaving audience imagining, which is quite interesting.
Great art, amazing! It's small so you can spend a lot of time with the art. You can even see "behind the scenes" like storage and conservation. The architecture is amazing and marches the art too. Security was very friendly and informative. Front desk was great too. Educational program, it was interesting and informative but the education director Victoria very rude- nasty-. Made me sad at such a great museum!
Hands down the best museum I've been to in my entire life- and I'm an art student in NYC! Besides the art, the gallery quality and architecture itself is so fascinating, wholesome, and a designed experience. Clyfford Still is truly a genius in art in the most formal definition, and his transcendent work will appeal to those mindful-seeker individuals who will see through to Still's well-documented spiritual experience.
A jewel of a place. A must see for any Still admirer and worth visiting if you are unaware of his work.
My favorite museum in Denver, hands down! Having only heard his name through studies of 20th century abstract expressionism at first, I was thrilled to see how the artist grew and changed over his career through this exhibit. On this, my 3rd visit, the added focus toward elementary-level learning was an impressive touch. A definite recommendation for any visit to the Mile High City.
This is gem. I know next to nothing about abstract art, but was very impressed. Not only is the art impressive, but also, the explanatory information is descriptive and educational. The building, built expressly for this art, is a work of art itself. Staff are very helpful too. Well worth a couple of hours
Magnificent architecture. There are 3 different concrete finishes compose the whole building. The combinations creates many interesting feeling in the museum. Art work is amazingly beautiful. It’s one of the jewel of museum!
Wonderful museum to see the developmental years and transitions of a great artist. Denver made a great decision to bid for his collection and make it home for the artist.
Well-curated and constantly rotating out Still's art, even the museum itself is a beautiful work of art in-itself. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the place isn't too busy during the week. His art is shuffled and rearranged every few months. Lots of history behind him on the first floor, and an area for kids on the second floor. If you're in Denver this is a must.
Fridays are $5 from 5-8pm. This was a pleasant surprise we found online and purchased tickets on their site. The museum was peaceful and calming, we had a lovely time. We particularly enjoyed the maker space, where you can make artist trading cards. The staff was so welcoming and let us pop in, and create with all kinds of supplies in such an inspiring place. Everyone in the shop and front desk were very kind, and had a passion for Still's art and outside connections to other related artists. Thanks for a lovely evening!
One of the best museums I've ever been to. Still's art, is displayed beautifully and the museum has 95% of his work which rotates regularly. In addition, you learn not only about Still's history but the thought and time period of each work which is lacking in many museums. Do not miss this museum while in Denver both for the well thought out curation but the architecture of the museum is in itself a work of art. Also, bring the kids as there is a massive room of professional art supplies where they can create their own works!
Nice little museum. Volunteers quite helpful with tidbits of information.
Quite a change in subject matter from his early works to his later ones, but similar bold color use throughout.
I had never visited the Clyfford Still Museum before, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I found it to be extraordinary. The artwork itself was incredible, of course, but the museum itself is also superb. From the architecture and design to the thoughtfulness underlying the exhibits and displays, I felt that I was on a journey that brought me into powerful and unexpected encounters.
Fun fact: Over the past five years, CSM has exhibited approximately 280 paintings. That amounts to just 33 percent of the paintings known to be in its collection.
Really well done museum fully dedicated to Clifford Still. Worth the price. Takes about an hour.
Wandered into this museum after checking out the nearby Denver Art Museum. A very beautiful property with multiple levels of exhibits. The Still exhibit itself wasn’t my preferred style of art but it was presented beautifully. Worth checking out for sure.
The Clyfford Still Museum is an amazing concept that showcases an amazing artist's life's work. The really cool thing is that while there are definitely some key pieces of Still's that you will see every time you visit, many of the works are rotated through his massive collection that are all housed within the museum. So there's always something new to see and experience, which makes repeat visits well worth it. The Gallery teachers are all professional art historians and educators, meaning you get a professionally led tour if you choose to take one. I attended the recent Artist Select exhibit opening with guest curator and artist Jonas Burgert, and highly recommend taking a tour to learn more about his process when selecting the works he did, and what his response was to Still's work. Kenda was my tour guide, and she did an amazing job of explaining Buergert's curation and encouraging us to explore our own connections and feelings about the exhibit. If you can sign up for one of Kenda's tours I highly recommend doing so, you'll leave feeling incredibly informed and inspired by Still's work!
Cool and unique museum. It's a little small and I wish there were more pieces on display. The interactive timeline was really neat. Absolutely worth a visit, especially for the price. Order online to save on ticket prices.
One of the finest museums I have ever visited. Left absolutely nothing to be desired. The price is also very good. Skip the Denver Art Museum and come here instead.
Well well well… if it ain’t Mr. Clyfford Still!
So many different varieties of painting styles and apparently, a great outdoor terrace with cool things that hang and shine.
Color pallet was masterful. Canvas size, was extra large.
10/10 would recommend.
Don’t overthink it.
A beautifully designed art museum showcasing the artist Clyfford Still. The ground floor is dedicated to telling his personal life story via videos, interactive media, and personal objects. second floor leads visits through multiple galleries of his large scale paintings. Conveniently located next to the Denver Art Museum.
Love the clyfford still museum. Staff is nice, building is very rich in material, but calming and subdued. And of course, the rotating exhibits are all very well put together and the artwork is generally great.
Absolutely phenomenal artwork, friendly staff, and a space to really get into the feel of creating art like his.
I thought a whole gallery filled with just one painter might be too much, but because Still's art and technique changed as he got older this place is great. Fantastic art, very well explained and great staff.
Not all of it was quite my style of art, but a very nice building. I'm sure others can appreciate all of his art more than I do. I'm glad we have art museums like this though. There was a room to create your own art--fun for all ages. There was a free music performance outside the evening I was there.
This museum showcases the majority of Still's work. Arranged chronologically, it shows his artistic progression. There are many historical items about the world events that influenced his development on the first floor. His bold abstracts are impressive, and some are huge.
Clifford Still believed that an artists work should be displayed together to best understand their development and progression. I think he would be happy with the way his work is presented! The first part of the museum follows his work chronologically as he transitions between a more traditional art style to abstract expressionism. Then the second half focuses on specific themes throughout his works. It was a cool blend of the two approaches that I really liked because it really helps you to understand the artist and his work. Also, beautiful museum and large collection (they have 95% of his works).
Impressive art and building. This artist life of work is stunning. One of my favorite places In the world I've been now 7 times. Something new every time.
The best artist you've never heard of. He stopped showing his work and continued to paint and create for years. He gifted all of his paintings to a trust with the condition that they create a museum with only his art. His story is much more nuanced and complicated but he really was a rebel, even among the rebels he hung out with (Pollock, Rothko, etc.). Definitely worth taking your time here.
One other thing - CSM holds classes sometimes. I'm uploading the little painting I made while I was there. Lots of fun.
An extraordinary array of Clifford Stills’s pieces. His late-career work is especially moving: it evidences a kinetic energy seen by lateral, impressionistic brushstrokes, compared to the works that have a slower vertical orientation.
This is such a cool collection of artwork from this artist. Pretty small museum but a great way to spend a couple hours and it's even part of Bank of America's Museums on Us program.
Wonderful. Wonderful artwerk and presentation 🌹🙏🏾🌹 I loved seeing the art progress over the years❣️ If anyone questions that creating art is spiritual business, this exhibit is proof 🕊️
I really appreciate the Clyfford Still museum - I've had few opportunities to view original works by Still since I was in art school, and the chance to view many of his works in one place was a tremendous experience. My only criticism of the museum is that I wish the galleries were larger, so more of Still's work could be on display at one time. However I understand from the museum staff that they rotate new work into the galleries every four months.
For those of us who are from the Western United States, Clyfford Still holds a special place in contemporary American art history. Like Jackson Pollock, Still is one of the few Abstract Expressionists who lived in and was influenced by the American West. Acknowledged generally as one of the founding influences of Abstract Expressionism, Still was widely respected by other painters of his generation.
The Clyfford Still Museum is a wonderful tribute to the artist and haven for his work.
The art – it goes without saying – is beautiful and varied. And it's nicely grouped and presented in a calm and peaceful environment even compared to other museums.
I didn't expect to like this museum but everything about it is a gem. I don't "get" abstract expressionism but the curators have done an outstanding job tracing the evolution of this artist and making the art more accessible to the layperson. We spent 1.5 hours and really enjoyed every aspect. The entrance fee is affordable. We engaged in interesting conversation with the staff. I walked out understanding a lot more about an important period of art history.
Building has nice architecture and skylights. You can see painter's evolution from early works more figurative to later works more abstract. The curator tried to organized it to attract children and young moms by making gallery instructions more cute and playful. I myself tought it very silly. The majority of viewers will probably continue to be adults. Painter didn't like to name his works, so they are all numbered.
Awesome place for great art. This museum is full of delightful people!!
I’d never heard of Clyfford still before. We came here for the architecture! Both were amazing!
Incredible and unique. I can only think of one other museum focused on one artist as affecting as this one; the Picasso museum in Paris. Truly a treasure!
Incredible museum. I loved being able to learn about Clyfford Still and seeing how his work developed through the years.
The art was beautiful, not a super long walkthrough but if you’re into art would recommend coming here
One of the very best museums I’ve ever been to - absolutely phenomenal.
Very nice art history museum in the center of downtown
Beautiful museum, I really enjoyed my visit and learned a lot. Very helpful staff.
Great little museum with modern art right next to the Denver Art Museum. Plus if you have a bank of America account and can prove it you get in for free!
A remarkable experience! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The museum itself is well organized, structured both chronologically and thematically. The placards provide context and information about the works without influencing your perception of them, which is a fine line to balance. I felt refreshed, relaxed, and energized while reflecting upon the works. The gallery took me about an hour to go through, but one could easily sit with one work alone for an hour and learn so much. I feel so lucky to have such a unique museum in Denver! I highly recommend this experience.
83% of all Still art is owned by museum
Very nice and quiet, lots of space to view and take in the power of the paintings in their collection.
It's great to see one artist's creations all together, housed in such a beautiful building. Be sure to look up, the ceilings are amazing.
The Clyfford Still Museum is my favorite museum in Denver. It's small enough that I can comfortably peruse it, while being much quieter than the DAM. I've always had a pleasant experience with the reception staff and staff in the gallery. And the art speaks to me. It's such a unique experience to see the artist's work transform over time and in conjunction with world events. My favorite piece is PH-247 1915, or "Big Blue." If you have the chance to come to Clyfford Still, I highly recommend it.
Despite being a lifelong artist and someone who has been practicing abstract expressionism for almost a decade I didn't know who Clyfford Still was until about 3 years ago. Considered one of the fathers of the abstract expressionist movement, I was delighted to learn more about his life and work at this well curated and clean museum. They have a great interactive timeline of his life in context of what else was happening at different periods of his life and something like 93 percent of his body of work on site, which they rotate out during the year. I loved to learn more about how meticulous he was in cataloguing his own work for posterity. As not only an artist and someone who gets a kick out of organization I really enjoyed learning about that part of his process.
An incredible museum devoted to a single great artist. Well worth a visit.
Excellent space. Interesting art collection. Highly informative. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Has a free day so we went. It was a neat museum and my kids loved the craft area.
Cool museum! Really neat architecture, interesting art, and reasonably priced.
A unique one-in-a-kind museum focused entirely on the works of Clifford Still.
The community-sourced exhibit is so fun, and you can vote for your favorite!
Wonderful timeline of his life with corresponding art history and US history to put it all in context. Pleasant staff. Calming experience
An intimate journey in his evolution. Even if you are not a fan of modern art you will see how he got to his fullest expression. Sine it is just Still, you can really focus.
Lots more works in the archival area but some of his best works are displayed.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Beautiful museum! They have free days throughout the year as well.
What a spectacular treasure in the heart of Denver. Admittedly didn't know much about Clifford Still before my visit, but was looking for an indoor activity on a blustery day. The entire property, from building to contents, is dedicated to the life and work of this remarkable man, who was quite ahead of his time in the realm of abstract art
One of the finest collections I've seen. If you're close don't miss it.
Interesting museum with the works of Still along with his history of his style development.
Nice collection of art and great experience for the mind.
First time visiting this museum...on my road trip had a couple of hours to spare and decided to see this museum. I have never heard of this artist. Definitely a nonconforming to the typical artist life and pressures that come with it. I really enjoyed his earlier paintings when he started experimenting with his craft. It will not disappoint..come with an open mind and look and be ready to look at art from a different perspective..loved it!
Outstanding collection of one of America's greatest artist in a beautiful unique building.
I stumbled onto the Clyfford Still Museum after visiting the Denver Art Museum and I was completely blown away. The paintings and his story are breathtaking. The building is beautiful and being surrounded by these enormous achingly gorgeous paintings is an experience. I was not a fan of abstract expressionism but this museum and exhibits help me “get it”. The exhibit rotates every couple months or so. And the current exhibit is spectacular - one room had noise cancelling headphone and putting them on and just looking at the paintings in the complete silence was the most peaceful and stress relieving experiences I’ve had.
Wonderfully curated. Knowledgeable staff. Friendly guides. Excellently done interactive Timeline.
Fantastic visit to a very empty museum on timed tickets during pandemic. Staff was masked and polite. The art is well presented and the panels detailing Clifford Stills life are interesting yet brief enough to want to read.
Gift shop at end of your visit is what we expected. Another side note:. As can be expected the interactive children's art station is closed, but they have created some take home art packs.
Expect about an hour and a half visit which allows you to just use the metered parking spots on the street. There were plenty street parking available.
This museum blends an amazing architectural experience with a one-of-a-kind art collection. An absolute must if you are in Denver.
Interesting collection of art. The building was absolutely gorgeous & I really enjoyed the interactive art station at the end 🎨 …
I enjoyed this one-exhibit museum dedicated t the life and works of Clyfford Still.
This small museum in LODO around the corner from the Denver Art Museum required a $10.00 donation.
This museum houses all of Still's vast and eclectic collection of original works.
The exhibit begins with the artist's life on a timeline, highlighting his exhibits, chronicled alongside socio-cultural developments and the developments related to the abstract expressionist movement.
All the rooms that follow contain Still's public works beginning when he received an award for his first creations after high school, all the way to his death, organized around Still's various 'periods'.
The exhibit chronicles Still's life, his career and his activism for the recognition of abstract expressionism and modern artists at large.
I would recommend this museum to modern art lovers visiting the Denver Metro area.
A stunning building by Brad Cloepfil, and 95% (!! not a typo !!) of all the work Clyfford Still ever did. A fascinating, insightful look at one of the very first abstract impressionists...if you're interested in art, it's worth traveling a long way to visit Denver.
This museum is a hidden gem in downtown Denver. I much more enjoyed his earlier works in the welcoming rooms but see he was a transitional influence on the edge of an arriving '60s style of making art
The Denver Museum of Art & the Stills are next door to each other and can be visited w/i a few hours. I recommend seeing both but huge edge to the Stills Museum.
A delightful collection housed in a remarkable space. The Still is certainly one of Denver’s artistic treasures.
Beautiful museum. A must see when visiting Denver.
Experiencing an artist's journey into the abstract is a treat. I ended up taking in one of the pieces for a good 7 minutes. My one drawback is that, even at $10, the price of admission is a little steep for an experience most will complete in under an hour. Still worth one trip though.
Probably the best art museum I’ve ever seen next to an Andy Warhol exhibit or a Peter Max show. Clean air-conditioned I think the stewards are a little much though feels like they follow you through the exhibit
This is the best museum in Denver. It's a small museum but the architecture is phenomenal! The entire museum is dedicated to one artist and the backstory for that is quite interesting. It's the largest collection of any single artists works and they're spectacular! I wont say too much because it's something you'll want to experience yourself. They also have an unrolling of a never seen piece coming up in November.
Really enjoyed the art... read about the art as much as the artist's life to fully appreciate the museum. The building itself is beautiful - many interesting angles from inside and outside that let light through. Look for their evening discount if you're flexible with your schedule and want to save.
Well organized. The art along with the architecture is stunning
I absolutely loved this museum! The staff are exceptional. The woman at the front desk was so nice, courteous, and helpful! They provide lockers and a place to hang your coat so you can enjoy looking around without having to carry anything, which is nice. The museum is amazing and Clyfford Still's work and life story are incredible. Definitely would recommend!
Okay, so I do not like most art.... this place took my breath away. Clyfford Still is a dark artist, who's use of mostly shades really speaks to what I like. Lots of texture and lots of large pieces. This is my favorite Museum. In fact, I just got back from London's National gallery which has some of the worlds most renowned pieces from the really big and important artists of the past 6 centuries and this museum is still better through my subjective eyes
My favorite art museum in Denver! The building is beautiful and the collections are wonderfully curated. On another note, Clyfford Still is a wildly fascinating individual and is definitely the original hipster. Everyone should go to this museum to learn more about his unique life and develop a respect for this underappreciated artist! They have free admission from 5-8pm on Fridays, and good deals on regular admission for students!
One of the best museums I have ever been to. The concept is fairly unique: virtually all of an influential artist's works in one space. In this case, Still was one of the heroes of abstract expressionism, and this museum holds approximately 95% of his known work. The building lm ding itself was designed to showcase his work and does so spectacularly well. The curation is superb, with some chronological rooms and some thematic rooms.
Along with the de Menil collection in Hiuston, one of the best ways to understand a singular vision in a bespoke setting.
I loved it!!! I am enamored with all the paintings!
Didn't care too much for the art, actually only stopped in here cuz Denver Art Museum next door was having Free First Saturday and this was along the way. But the maker space was the best we have ever experienced. Other family friendly events with arts and crafts tables pale in comparison. They had professional level art supplies to work with. When it was closing time, the adults were the last ones still making art, not the kids!
I love art but was not too familiar with Clyffod Still's works. We were invited to an open house and the work and the museum is really gorgeous. The museum gave his pieces ample space so that his beautiful pieces can breathe on the wall. Great museum!
Still was a brilliant, innovative artist. This museum houses most of his best work, showing his development in a way no other museum can, since it has many works from throughout his lifetime. It has way more than it can show. I'm familiar with his work from the several major works at the Albright-Knox in Buffalo, equal to his best anywhere, but having nothing like the breadth and depth of this collection. This museum does a first rate job of showing how abstraction developed in his work, and the way his version differs from other major figures. The labelling and explanatory material gives one insight into his artistic philosophy. Worth a trip.
What a pleasant surprise! It's fascinating to see a museum about this one artist, and to see his stylistic and philosophical evolution over his career. The museum is of course fairly small, larger than a standard Museum exhibition or a gallery, but small enough to go through in about 90 minutes. But seeing some of the additional work still in storage, I know there will be reasons to return. And the building isba great showcase for the art - interesting, but still a backdrop for the works.
This museum is great, but may not be for everyone. Still's work is a little misplaced in Denver and a museum dedicated to one artist may turn some off. Beyond that, the museum is beautifully designed and presents the painter's work chronologically in a unique and accessible method. It's a real treat, and I left appreciating Still and his work much more.
Beautiful collection of artwork by a man who I'd previously never heard of. I left here I'm agreement with Clifford Still in that I think it's best to display an artists work alone, without the distraction of other artists' work. This museum does a good job of showcasing Still's progression as an artist and how his work evolved over the years.
I love this place so much it gives me hope
The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, yet they were unobtrusive unless you appeared to have a question. The premise was clean clearly labeled and wonderfully aesthetic. The displays are logically configured and placed for maximum impact. I have been to many museums but this one stands above. I highly recomend a visit.
I am not an abstract art aficionado, but Still is terrific. I certainly helped my appreciation that I was accompanied by a volunteer at the museum who REALLY know Still and could help us understand what was going on in his life and paintings. Even if you are not "into" abstract modern art, go to this museum - it might change your mind.
I got here 10 minutes before they were closing and had to kind of rush through it but I really enjoyed what I saw. I will have to go back for a more detailed peek. The art was super fascinating and it's interesting to me that one person could fill an entire museum! Can't wait to sit and really absorb it.
A truly unique museum designed to exclusively feature the art of Clyfford Still in a manner that reflects the evolution of his art over time. The collection seems to rotate the art work on a quarterly (3 month) schedule so if you like it I recommend visiting a few times a year.
Also I really enjoy going during the days on weekdays (M-F) because its relatively empty and your group can take their time, chat without bothering others and enjoy all the features of the building.
Amazing architecture and art work. Went in knowing nothing about Clyfford Still, came out awe inspired by his artistic prowess. Definitely worth a visit!
We loved exploring the art on display. It was a free day to enter so there were quite a few people inside but they did a great job moving people along.
This place inspired me to practice Kriya Yoga
One of my best museum experiences ever. The space is a marvel of architectural design and the displays provide a thorough insight into Still's world. Love the commitment to new curation every few months. Fantastic.
I think it is important for people to understand this museum's collections are solely those of Clyfford Still's. For that reason, the amount of different paintings is limited compared to art museums that are not dedicated to one individual. At the same time, I really like the paintings here and recently they did their first photography exhibit which I liked too. I used to not be that much of a fan of abstract paintings but it has really grown on me thanks to this museum. I like their Music in the Galleries series. I try to attend every time I can. During the summer months they do a Summer Lawn Concert series. I have never attended those but plan to this year. They have another public program called film/Still which an art related movie is played at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on West Colfax. I have not attended that yet due to the location being so far away from where I live. I wish they would have made a deal with the Sie Film Center or Landmark Mayan Theatre to have the movies played there instead.
A life changing experience. A museum that beautifully introduces the most primitive art aficionados to the progression of an artist’s lifetime work. The intimacy of this gallery makes it possible to learn about the artist and about the various media he used. As an avid lover and frequent visitor of art galleries in London, Paris, Washington DC, New York and San Francisco I can attest that you gain something from this gallery that you cannot get from any where else. I feel richer as a person because I have visited this gallery. Having said all this, enter with no expectation, put your headphones on and move ever so slowly.
This is a truly beautiful museum. It’s small, beautiful and while the art is incredible- the building’s architecture is even better.
Good museum. That said, I have a hard time appreciating artists like Pollack and Still. (It doesn't really impress or instill anything for me personally.) I wouldn't have gone here if it hadn't been free on the last Friday of the month after 5pm.
The Clyfford Still Museum is a must-see in Denver. The artwork is absolutely incredible and the museum itself is exceptional, both in the stunning architecture and the thoughtfulness behind how the pieces are displayed and how the history of Still's life and work is shared. There is currently an exhibit curated by Still's daughter with an accompanying podcast that is quite fantastic. Also, do take the guided tour if you're able.
One of the best museums in the USA.
This is a dream museum of mine! Nine galleries upstairs and great lighting to tell the story of this artist’s development.
covid regulations were by far the best here during my visit to Denver.
I came back for a second time this trip and enjoyed the new take on things. They have so much of his work, each curation is a unique experience.
Great museum if you have any interest in mid 20th century American art. The main exhibit changes a couple of times a year. They also run some cool programs. My favorites are STILLness (a half hour meditation in the gallery) and One Painting at a Time (a 45 minute talk about a painting). And if you go for one of the FREE programs you can also visit the rest of the museum.
Hadn't even known this was just awaiting visitors in Denver, as is often the case within a busy metropolis with more than enough to do. The building architecture is paired very well to accentuate Mr still's art. Also the depth of historical details of his life certainly warrants notice.
Favorite museum in denver and way up there in general. The works or Clyfford Still are incredible and the architecture of the building is genius and reason alone to visit. Don’t miss if you’re visiting denver or if you’re a resident and haven’t been. Always changing his pieces so it’s never the same. Love!!!
Such a cool little museum.
A must-see for any modern or abstract art enthusiast. Don't know why I didn't know about CStill before. If you're visiting Denver give yourself a sweet treat. Buy tix on line for discount. Can see and appreciate all displayed art in an hour.
When my wife and I came to this place, we were pleasantly surprised by pieces art that are represened here. You can find 9 beautiful galleries of Still’s art, some historic photos and items from the Clyfford Still archives. Would recommend visiting this place!
If you're into abstract expressionism, this is a good place to visit. They rotate the displayed works several times during the year, so it's always fun to visit.
Enjoyed the family day program with grandkids ages 7 - 11. The guides stimulated discussion through hands on activities. We spent several hours in the Create Your Own room which had a wide variety of materials.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable, passionate, and energetic. I was surprised to find out that the Clyfford Still museum is a city of Denver museum. Parking is free at Dozens after hours. There are a handful of restaurants close to stop at before or after.
wonderful museum, lots of striking pieces. will be returning to see more pieces in rotation.
Very cool museum focusing on abstract art by the very talented artist. It takes an hour or less to go through which is perfect. They have various free days throughout the year as well.
Interesting work, well organized, really good public attention.
Would like more discription about techniques and medium for each piece. The layout of the overal museum is wonderful. Nice way to spend a couple hours in Denver
Awesome museum! Beautiful artwork and very well done to they explained abstract art and Clyfford Still's style in a way that gave it a whole new definition
I have been wanting to go to this museum for years and finally got the change to check it out. The museum is set up in a great flow from his early life to the end of his works. They are repeatedly changing the works so you can visit often and see new things.
Concrete brutalism building next to the denver art museum. This museum regularly switches out exhibitions or invites other high named artist or curators to put together shows. Massive selection of abstract expressionism. Still gave up on showing art and stacked up hundreds of works of art in his barn.
Interesting exterior design reflecting Colorado scape.
Cool paintings in a cool building
TLDR: I hated abstract art and now I love it.
The exhibit is set up in a way that anyone can appreciate Clyfford Still's work. By walking you though Mr. Still's atristic journey from start to finish you're able to understand and appreciate his stylist decisions and gain appreciation for his abstract work. I always felt disconnected from modern abstract work and left feeling quite moved by his art. When I left the museum I wanted to learn more about artist like him and see more work like his. The Clyfford Still museum is a must see in my book.
The architecture of the museum itself was a true highlight however the focus of a whole museum on just one artist was great, as it gave you a real appreciation of Clifford's development & style throughout his life.
Maybe the best single small and architecturally significant gallery I've ever been to. Go out of your way if you have to to visit this incredible facility and see Clyfford Stills art
Great institution and collection! I love that they re-curate the galleries a few times a year. And they display so many primary source stuff!!!
I had been to the DAM many times, but didn’t know how incredible this museum is! Definitely worth any admission fee. Staff is kind and knowledgeable.
Gah! Beautiful art in a jewel box of a location? Yes! You can spend a meditative hour here and want to come back the next day. I never get enough.
The building is absolutely beautiful and well designed! Loved every gallery and the set up of the paintings. Beautifully done. Will be returning often
This is a museum of one artist, and his works are mostly abstractive, so be prepared. I would recommend to go to the ground floor, to the section with his personal belongings. That would provide a little bit more context on his artworks.
Fantastic space dedicated to appreciation of the art life and times of clyfford still. Be sure to explore the recesses of architecture in addition to the paintings and drawings. Rotating works but strictly the works of still.
Wonderful art...very quiet & peaceful
New exhibit curated by kids!
I feel this is the best way to see his work.
What an amazing experiance. So unique. I would highly recommend the tour. It is free with admission. It was nice to see only one artist represented and to see the evolution of the art. Displays rotate so there is something new everytime.
Very unusual venue devoted entirely to one artist. Clyfford Still was a major influence in Abstract Expressionism and we'll respected educator. Must see the giant canvasses to really appreciate the medium.
My favorite art museum in Denver! Expert curation in a beautiful, modern space. I always bring friends who are visiting Denver to this spot!
Love, love, love this museum. We weren’t familiar with Still before this and now are fans. Beautiful work, and worth a visit for any fan of Modern art.
This is a cool place to visit. Even if the art isn't your thing the history and the beauty of the architecture is worth the trip. Plus if you get one of the culture passes thing it is included.
I found this place by accident and I am so glad I did! It had such well set up exhibits and the peices they have are exquisite. I learned so much and would recommend anyone who loves the arts to take a look.
Only few steps away from Denver Art Museum, great visit!
Denver is incredibly fortunate to house the works of this master painter.
Wether you're visiting, or a local, go see the work of the artist that Pollock praised as "making the rest of us look academic."
I love it here because it is so well curated, BUT KEEP AN OPEN MIND if you come here. Abstract expressionism takes some work to enjoy if you are not immediately drawn to the style.
Attached to the Denver Art Museum but still an independent space, the layout of the exhibit starts you at the beginning of Clyfford Still’s career and shows his transition toward the end of his life.
Excellent curation of the work of Clyfford Still, one of the granddaddies of abstract expressionism. Make time to read the curation notes. Very informative. Will help you understand the whole exhibit.
Intimate museum of large paintings. Enjoyed seeing the timeline of Still's life and evolution of style.
The summer concert series are fun. The events start way too early for people that work a typical job. The docents were extremely rude and negatively impacted my experience.
Went on a free day! It's interesting how the work is displayed chronologically so you can clearly see how Stills work changed over time.
cool to see a single artists growth over time. also the archive vaults are an architectural marvel
Unique style, only his works, leader in post war abstract expressionism. Bold colors and line, depth. So many pieces, so, they're rotated frequently....Must see!!
Small museum but well worth the visit! We love the bold colors, huge paintings and the overall vibe of the museum.
The art work is not for all but I truly appreciated the museum
Super interesting exhibition of a single artist. It's a must see for fans of abstract/ impressionism works.
Great museum! Would recommend it to anyone
It’s like the Rothko chapel for Colorado. Beautiful architecture meets beautiful paintings. You can lose yourself and feel completely enveloped by Still’s works.
The most beautiful museum in Colorado. Still never ceases to awe, however, the wall decals are distracting and almost viewed more than the actual work present.
i don’t like it much because i can’t understand art 😂 …
This is a fairly new museum and I thought it was worth the $10.00 admission price - great works of art from this man dating all the way back to the 1930's - great place to spend an afternoon with a date & grab a bite to eat afterwards!
The show I saw was all works on paper, it was great. Definitely coming back for shows by guest curators this Spring. Great architecture!
Must-see. Unique museum. We loved it. Fun for the whole family. The art is amazing. What a special place!
The way they demonstrated Still's movement from real life forms to abstract was excellent. Also, his incorporation of human form into his works was extremely interesting.
Such a calm and relaxing museum. Beautiful art and the employees are very nice. I will definitely be returning.
The Clifford still museum is a wonderful place that showcases the life and work of an amazing artist. Very glad I got to enjoy it!
My favorite art museum. A must-see, but little-known gem for the true, serious art connoisseur, especially if you are open to abstract expressionism.
Loved this smaller museum, and the tour they had was really helpful. $5 Fridays are such a good deal too!
Great museum! I love all the natural light and the overall architecture. I went for a concert in the museum and it was lovely.
The building is very unique, I never even knew this building existed. It's overshadowed by the Denver Art Museum, literally.
Free Friday! Yay!! Very interesting artist-you could see his progression from early to late-reality to abstract.
This place is a must visit when in Denver. The museum is beautiful and it is a great opportunity to appreciate the work of Clyfford Still.
The drawing room on the top floor is excellent for kids and teens. An impressive and well-planned space. Good staff.
OK, familiarize yourself with the artist and his style before coming. Was disappointed personally, but others may appreciate his art more than I.
Enjoyed the work and story of an original...
Great experience. Works cover his entire life in chronological order. Lots of information about the artist and abstract expressionism.
Very nice
Wow! Amazing to see Still’s transformation over time. Worth a trip to Denver to see this gallery if you love art.
Beautiful building to display his art. Very neat to see how his style developed over the decades and to see many of his personal items.
Nice small museum to understand Clyfford Still's transformation from reality to abstract style. Nice art arrangement, friendly stuff.
A most complete collection of a single artist work I've ever seen. Just amazing.
Lovely, compact art museum. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful museum. Never too crowded
Amazing museum in Denver. It’s a must if your stopping in town.
Frankly, it was a little boaring
Clyfford Still is wacky
Smaller museum with beautiful pieces but something that can be seen fairly quickly. Very large spaces.
Always worth a visit. Recent exhibit was well curated.
Great museum, plenty of art to look at.
A bucket list item checked off my list. Perfectly curated work with an inside view into the mind of the artist.
It was free, pretty good experience for free but if I had to pay for the experience it would be a sold 3.8 stars.
Very interesting, although the proposal of constantly comparing the painting with other masterpieces reduces the contemplation pleasure.
Stunning space and collection. Denver's very lucky to have this collection of some of the finest early modern art around.
Very cool place to visit
Large and rare collection of Clyfford Still works and memorabilia. Contemporary and adventurous building design.
Still making every visit new and exciting. I highly recommend a visit to see this modern art collection
Art should make you feel something.

An absolutely wonderful museum with great art and wonderful to learn about this incredible artist
Just great, wonderful paintings. Very different from other artistes.
Beautiful surroundings, peaceful atmosphere. Serene. Go on days that there are no students for a quiet enjoyment.
Not my kind of art but you get in for free on weekends and the place was clean and staff is friendly.
A worthwhile visit if you want a change of pace from the DAM. Fascinating architecture to boot.
Incredible art museum. The building alone is worth checking out.
Great place to visit for a couple of hours to contemplate Still's paintings.
Attended a free meditation event here, it was wonderful and the setting is beautiful.
An amazing space; Still's work fills it superbly! The staff is extremely polite & efficient, too.
Perhaps the most beautiful building in Denver with an astounding collection of works by Still.
Very cool museum, a must see for art enthusiasts!
Excellent set up. Staff is great! Definitely worth checking out!
Quick but very good museum. 1.5 hours s r so to see it all.
My bucket list has had a check-off. Loved the museum.
One if the most impressive modern art museums that I've ever visited
Amazing place for children and grown ups!!!
Beautifully designed building, and intriguing art. The staff is knowledgeable.
This a gorgeous Brutalist- modern building containing a fine collection of his works.
Simple museum. Good history, great mid century artwork.
Amazing museum but very small and for the size a bit expensive.
One of the most inspiring art exhibits in the United States.
If Abstract art is your happy place then this is where you should be!
Amazing museum with great collection. Building is rad too.
Beautiful. Unique. Educational. Highly recommend this exhibit.
A must see if your in Denver especially if you are already going to the Denver art museum.
A small but gorgeous exhibition space for works from a master artist
Very limited number of works on display. Staff was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable
Beautiful museum very relaxing..
I cannot get enough of this magical destination in the heart of Denver. GH
Absolutely worth it. Go and see it. His work is amazing.
Fantastic collection on the life and work of this American abstractionist. Not to be missed.
This is an important museum in the history of modern art.
It was completely wonderful and I look forward to more visits!
Wonderful and knowledgable staff! What a great gallery.
Pretty museum. The artwork is okay.
Small but unique art museum.
Stills is some guy's last name and not referring to the content of the museum!
Beautiful abstract works by one of the originals.
There aren't many greater collections of a single artist's work
Free for veterans and military personnel, and totally awesome.
Excellent museum focused on Still's work
Great, informative, and historical; loved the art.
Very distinct art installment!
Awesome to see the life's work of a profound artist.
Not a lot, but admission is cheap, and what's there is great.
Absolutely stunning, a perfect afternoon in downtown Denver.

First time visit. Went to check out their monthly Art Crawl. Had a wonderful time. Staff were very friendly, engaging, and inclusive. Felt very welcomed. Highly recommend!
A hiddle little gem of impressionist work. We are lucky to have gotten his work
My favorite museum in Denver!
(Translation) Living in France, I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to go to Denver, but I visited the site of the Clyfford Still Museum which is exemplary: clarity of the layout, and an "immersive" approach to the works. remarkable, allowing to examine the detail of the pictorial paste. This place is also remarkable for its architecture. Still, a major artist of abstract expressionism in the United States deserved to be given such a place. Thank you for this quality welcome on your site.

(Translation) Nice museum. It is a pity that there is hardly any museum connection with other American abstract impressionists, but it is definitely worth a visit.

Mooi museum. Jammer dat er nauwelijks museale verbinding is met andere Amerikaanse abstract impressionisten.Toch zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken.
(Translation) Very clean, good attention for art connoisseurs.
