Reviews of Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum
If your ever in Cheyenne, WY check out the Frontier Museum. It has the largest collection of carriages and buggies in the world. Wow so much to see there. Incredible collection of frontier artifacts. It takes at least two hours to see..but could easily spend more time there.
Took a weekend trip to Cheyenne, this place was definitely worth the trip. Especially if you're an old west or rodeo fan. Not real big, but lots to see.
Had a wonderful time looking at the wagons and displays. The employees were helpful and friendly. We also liked the short film in the back. The only thing left to do is come back during the rodeo.
This place has to be one of our favorite stops. Always hearing about “The Daddy of them all” and getting to stop and see it has only inspired us to come back to CFDs. The museum is great with numerous wagons preserved, memorabilia from past cowboys including Lane Frost. This was a special trip to see the museum. Wish we could have gotten to see inside the arena area, but it was great just the same.
Great insight into Cheyenne's history. 12 dollars entrance fee.
Super nice gentleman working ticket sales. Loved chatting with him! Gave us lots of great info. Nice collection. My kids lived watching the movie of Lane Frost.
The gift shop had lovely items! However, in many instances even the clearance items were too expensive to purchase. The cashier was friendly and very helpful!:)
Very friendly staff. I felt like I was stepping back in time with the old carriages and artifacts. Great gift shop. We learned a lot about the rodeo culture here and how important Frontier Days is to this town. Great stop while we were visiting Wyoming.
Very interesting showcases and peaceful environment
My parents loved it! They were visiting from CT and we stopped here for 30 minutes during the weekend trolley ride. I know my dad wishes we spent longer there! There are many interesting things to see inside and the gift shop is really nice.
Don’t be fooled by it’s shabby exterior. Upon entry we were pleasantly surprised by the number of historical artifacts, carriages, and artwork.
If you’re passing by Cheyenne, you should make a pit stop at this museum , you won’t regret it !
Very cool place, all the old carriages and the history behind them was my favorite part!
I wont spoil it with all my pictures but here is a couple.
I believe admission was $10 per person
One could easily spend 2 hours here reading all the history.
I love this museum. I have been here before, I have referred other people here, and I will return any time I'm visiting.
In honesty, I could not care less about the rodeo aspect. I routinely breeze right past most things referencing the Frontier Days and the costumes and the saddles. But the carriages, wagons, and buggies are worth the price of admission. They are fascinating and beautiful, and I wish there were even more of them.
The gift shop is a bit crowded, as though whoever stocks it lost a bet and as a result isn't allowed to say no to any merchandising offer. 60 designs of t-shirts, not a one of them good. I went in very much wanting to buy something, and ended up with a single enamel pin; the one item I could find referencing the carriages, and not the frontier days, or rodeos, or the concepts of cowboys in general.
That said, the reason I even went in there is because I wanted to support how much I enjoy the carriage museum, and I wholeheartedly encourage a visit.
Awesome place to learn about the history of riding and Wyoming's culture. Definitely recommend taking the trolly tour from the depot as it includes free admission into the museum!
We learned a lot about Frontier Days and had a good time looking at all the different types of carts. They have the largest collection of carts in the world and many get used each year in the Frontier Days parade. We hope to come back sometime during Frontier Days to enjoy all the festivities!
This museum was absolutely beautiful. Lots to look at and a very nice gift shop. Worth the entrance fee.
Expansive museum detailing the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days. They have an impressive amount of 19-20th century buggy’s
Great display and explaination of buggies and wagons. Everything was well done and interesting. A beautiful collection of Western women photographs by Van Cleef ( hope I speeded it right)
This is must to see every year! Good times and great memories! Different entertainment every night!! That night was Keith Urban!!! OMG!!! The night before was Post Molone!!! Great atmosphere good vibes and one hell of a weekend!!
Great place ,Full of memory .You also getting warm welcom and good customer service . There is a shop there with lots of gift you can buy and end of the place you get a chance to see lots of beutiful painting and art .
Definitely loved this place.. for any rodeo fan its a truly once of a lifetime experience.. specially when you think of all the greats that has graced the grounds
Museum worker - was amazing!! Great intro into the museum explained what was able to be seen and rules. Took our photo for us. Museum had a lot of wonderful stagecoach history as well as rodeo history. At least 1-2 hours to read everything. They also had a great art exhibit going on. Gave Restaurant suggestions to us. Had good size gift shop.
Was super cool and the kiddos thought it was awesome. They had a beautiful art gallery going on while we were there.
Personally, I wish they had more exhibits. It was as if the museum was attempting to write a story but ran out of paper.
The carriages and wagon collection is by far one of the best anyone can find. Period.
Very nice museum with lots to see. Great staff it is worth a trip.
Superb museum! Well kept, tons of history with pictures, exhibits, film, and knowledgeable staff!
Absolutely loved this museum. Visited with my 84 yo father and 23 yo son. The exhibits in the museum were awesome. Beautiful carriages are in abundance. They also have a lovely gift shop and the young lady working was an absolute delight. (Unfortunately o did not get her name)
Loved our visit. Very special to see items and history from my Great Uncle Verne Elliott.
A really helpful staff, Very cool Western items to see and a really nice collection of wagons, many different types
Really cool museum filled mostly with old horse drawn carriages. Really interesting to see all the different types and styles
The museum is not a western history museum but a museum of the annual CFD celebration. That being said I found the carriage and wagon exhibit fascinating
It's an ok museum. It has some good history about Frontier days, but the back is just a bunch of Stage Coaches just lined up like a car show but for the coaches.
The people were nice and there was a pretty decent gift shop. By far thr best part was the collection of wagons.
A lot of history, wagons and early automobiles in such a tiny space.
Such a fun and interesting museum. I loved it.
Great help at the front desk. I'd rate it 4 stars but only because I didn't find the material that interesting but that didn't seem fair.
Awesome place great for taking pictures neat stuff as well
Really interesting and so much information. Many things to see and a very large variety of subjects. Be sure to visit if you're in the area.
It was free because I came with members otherwise they do charge you
A great collection of horse drawn wagons, buggies, stage coaches. Some original, some beautifully restored. Many historical Frontier Days Rodeo memorabilia items and photos. I took my time, enjoyed everything and spent two full hours there.
A great place to visit, very interesting with something for everyone.
Excellent experience! Good food, good service...what more do uou need!?
Great carriage museum and historic collection of frontier days
Seems a good place from outside. We were late . It closes at 5 PM
So interesting! Love the old west!
Ok. Not much to see because of renovation that was going on in adjacent building.
Enjoyed the college competition 😌 bull riding nand horse rides too bad we can't upload videos …
wonderful setup for viewing the history of Cheyenne Frontier days.
Amazing wagon exhibit. Also a really informative history of the rodeo
Great little store, unique items and great prices.
Wonderful museum about early days of CFD. Exhibits interesting, and easy to follow. Can be done in a couple of hours. Nice gift shop in pretty location. Fee for museum, gift shop free. Free parking. If in Cheyenne come here.
Most wonderful !!!! Western experience!!!!!! from
"Then to now" you will ever find in this country!!!!
Wonderful!, helpful staff!!!!!
Do your self a favor and go to Cheyenne so you can have this fun enjoyable and most Educational
Experience of a life time!!!!!!
This was the coolest place! They have a ton of vendors inside and outside of gates, with authentic Native American made items.
4 or 5 different wagon train campsites set up to see how they cooked over an open fire pit.
Went back in 2011 with my dad and 3 month old son. It was a bright spot in that visit. I enjoyed looking at the history of the rodeo in Wyoming.
What a pleasant surprise and experience for learning about the past. Neat place to go. 😁👍👍👍 …
It's worth to stop by when you visit Cheyenne, Wyoming
this is a great venue. Plenty of options to enjoy quality old west and Cheyenne experience. I highly recommend visiting this part multiple times throughout the year not just for Frontier Days. Plenty to do there. I look forward to my annual visit and enjoy people watching here and being reintroduced into the old west Nostalgia and history
Good people and good show. Free tour.
Tried to order online but the wait was way too long. Decided to walk in and they had my takeout order done in 15 minutes. Pizza was very good with a nice crust and done just they way I ordered it. Try it, you will like it!
The employees are wonderful and always smiling. The artwork is gorgeous and I loved learning about the old west. Interesting stuff, and I really enjoyed seeing the wagons, carriages, and "cars." Clean bathroom as well. Well vented and air conditioned. The people take pride in the place and ensure keeping it safe and clean for people.
Awesome place to go. Spent a couple of hours and enjoyed the whole thing. Wish they had a self guided tour book. Lots of rodeo history and an amazing number of old carriages and a few other things from the early 20th century. Very interesting. If you have any I treat in the history of the area you have to go.
Enjoyable museum with many artifacts and art, focused on rodeo and western culture. Good permanent exhibits, as well as interesting rotating displays. I recommend it if you're in Cheyenne or passing through!
Tired of driving to Denver so I stopped into Cheyenne to see the museum, really good place to take a break. History of bull riding and country living back then is interesting. Can take less than hr to do. Worth taking the break from the road. Nice town.
Overview of one of the oldest rodeos in america
Place to be if you like history of rodeo
The Cheyenne frontier days museum is really impressive. It has one of the best collection of wagons and carriages of any museum we have been too. It gives a great glimpse into Western history. I was impressed with what they have done. If you haven't visited recently it's worth going back and seeing all the new displays and exhibits.
This was an interesting museum with lots of old west carriages and rodeo stuff. I say when in Cheyene don't miss it. The best part was the staff. Super friendly!! Made the trip to this museum well worth it!
I really enjoy a good Museum and this was certainly a good Museum. Admission I think was about $9 a person. Covered a lot of the frontier days activities that goes on annually in Cheyenne but also had numerous old timey covered wagons and horse-drawn equipment. There is a lot of Western Art including paintings and sculpture there for viewing and I believe they are also for sale. So if you're in the neighborhood might as well stop by and take a look if you like Western museums and museums about the West you will enjoy this one.
Beautiful art and friendly staff. We love visiting.
First of all I hate Western themed anything, but this was actually pretty cool to go see. I went with my dad and nephew, my dad is originally from Wyoming and wanted to revisit some things from the past and this was one of them. I was skeptical at first, the parking lot was completely bare and it looked like a small building from the outside. Once we got in there we met a elder gentleman who looked at us a little strange with all our city slicker clothes on, but other than that he was probably one of the nicest people I met, he took the time to show us different exhibits after a short while he decided to part ways because he had other customers coming in, upon exploring we learned many amazing things about Cowboy history and the old west, they had a whole section based on the different tribes of Native Americans as well as many others such as bull riding, the normal days on the frontier, and even a little bit about safety and had one of the largest selections of pulling wagons I ever seen it's definitely a great place to check out if you're out in Wyoming and have some free time.
Cute museum with amazing displays! Have to pay a small fee to actually walk around, but they had a little section on Paniolos (Hawaiian Cowboys) that I absolutely loved!
Gift shop is a little pricey for my tastes, but has any Wyoming souvenir you could possibly want.
Great little stop in Cheyenne. Great for a day trip. I'm not into rodeo but it was still interesting. There was an art auction/sale while we were there, very entertaining to view what the local artists had to offer, they're very talented.
Wonderful place full of historic details
we were on our way to deadwood sd but wanted to stop and take pictures of the lane frost memorial and we didnt get to go through museum but spent alot of time in the gift shop so much I wanted to buy and did buy so much great Cfd stuff
If a good museum is your thing then this one is going to transport you back to days of old. The carriages are a great way to spend time contemplating how the ladies got in out. I personally think that could be the start of the custom of opening the door for a lady. If you have a hour or four stop in check it out.
I've been told this is the largest outdoor Rodeo arena in the world it's an incredible experience it's not something that you can do in just one day and go on down the road. It's something that should be experienced over several days since there's so much to see it's kind of like it going for a one-day visit to Disneyland that really doesn't want a lovely experience I recommended for anyone who can stop by.
If you like Cowboys ! Think your a Cowboy ! Ever watched Westerns on Tv, Attended a Rodeo ! This is a must ! Just a few blocks off of I-25 in Cheyenne, Wy. The Statue of Lane Frost Riding a Bull at the Parking lot will get your blood pumping ! Especially if ur from Oklahoma! RIP Lane !
The museum is in site of Cheyenne Frontier Rodeo grounds ! Enjoy folks. It’s a 10 + in my book !
Steve
Awesome museum 😁🤩 more of a cowboy and rodeo museum so if u love the rodeo or cowboys or just wanna explore a taste of the old life 🤠 of the frontier like I did this is def. The place to go. I must say the country life and rodeo life has been growing on me and they had a great video inside showing the courageous and wild cowboys and cowgirls in the rodeos and they're winnings of belt buckles and high stake cash prizes . They take a lickin n keep on tickin awesome
I only went to the statue's and walked around outside but loved every minute of it. And a staff member came out to greet and talk for a few. Can not wait to go again when I have more time to go inside.
I love Cheyenne Wyoming. It's like going back a hundred years in time. I would go every year if i could. It was better than the mountains in Colorado or the beaches of Florida. Truly awesome place for a vacation.
Outstanding museum which brings the history of the west and Frontier Days to life. There are plenty of displays to touch, videos to watch and kids activities to keep everyone entertained. Additionally, the displays are constantly changing so there is always something new to see and learn.
So much history packed into a small space. Well laid out, great information to real along with the display items. Great way to spend an afternoon and learn about Cheyenne!
Visited during Frontier Days, absolutely the best volunteers working. Beautiful art show, and larger than I expected museum.
This museum was an awesome experience! It is huge and full of information. Will visit again next time I'm in the area
This museum is a fantastic and huge compilation of old buggies, wagons, and other turn of the century vehicles. It was so informative and seeing old milk wagons, ambulances, hearses, etc. was great educational fun for us, since we love Americana stuff. The $10 entry price is why it gets knocked down one star. They need to make this a bit more affordable for the location and smaller size of the museum.
Bonus is the kids room with toys and fun stuff to occupy kids for hours. It was a lifesaver for our toddler.
What great place. Loved the tributes to Lane and Chris. Wish we had more time. Hopefully can make it back sometime.
Very nice museum
Cool museum, lots of historic bull riding and old west artifacts, must see Cheyenne attraction. Frontier Days was closed due to COVID-19 but it was as close as you can get during a pandemic.
Awesome. Very impressive
Love the museum and the museum store. There is so much history that I didn't even know and I am a local. Ronnie Dunn's photographs are fantastic (this is Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn). The store has all type of shirts, jackets and jewelry.
Liked the carriages and the Mrs frontier days banners. I'd like to see a working barn with some live horses and bulls, and cowboy's.
Oh, the good old days. Come to see many stagecoaches up close. Too bad CFD will not open this year because of Covid19. Cancelled for the first time in over 100 years.
Modern. Clean. Well lighted. Spacious. Artifacts - and they are more than numerous - are nicely restored and very well arranged and displayed. We look forward to visiting again.
We loved it, could've stayed there all day, but my feet got tired. Great movie provided a resting place. Oh, wow, what displays.
I really enjoyed this place but we didn't get to see it all due to part's of it being closed other wise I would have given it 4 stars.
First time here and I was greeted by two very nice ladies who explained everything about the museum and all the exhibits. This is a must see if you are in the area.
Great experience for those of us ignorant of cowboy history
If you're into cowboy/rodeo history it's a must.
This rating is for the Lane Frost statue only. I made my family let me stop here on our way through town on a long road trip just for this. You can stop here whether the rest of the facility is open or not.
Visited on sat about an hour before they closed. Lots and lots of wagons 😂. Kids lost interest in about 10 min but it was a nice stroll looking at everything. …
Great collection of wagons and rodeo history. Frontier days prep shut down some exhibits for the art show.
Cool statue/memorial of Lane Frost in front. Unfortunately got there late and they were closed so i could not check out the museum.
The museum really focused on Frontier Days. I expected to see more about the old west. There were some very nice coaches and carriages if that's your thing.
RONNIE Dunn's photo exhibition was well worth the stop! The Lensmen Project (Ron and Ron) takes the rodeo excitement and brings it home as art. The interview portion is 2 good ole boys talking about the rodeo of all rodeos as from behind the lens. Lifesize images are unique. Pieces are selling unframed from 2 to 14 thousand. $ No t shirts or postcards to buy. Just an old fashioned exhibit. Check it out folks!
All things rodeo! An excellent collection displayed beautifully. We enjoyed our afternoon there. I would absolutely recommend this museum.
Really fun place to visit. First year here in cheyenne and I have now learned about Lane Frost. Didn't learn about him in school.
Great exhibition to go back in time to Cheyenne’s Old Frontier Days.. the big daddy of them all.
I know there is a cowgirls museum but they should have had more information about them especially in the museum representing Frontier Days, since there were quite a few that even were better ropers/riders than men (eg : Mable Strickland, Lucille Mulhall, Lorena Trickery, Bertha Kalpernik. They definitely deserved a section of that museum instead of a small tv monitor of a short video about them.
Fun for all ages
The only thing better than the museum itself was the friendly and courteous staff.
If you like rodeo, western history this is the place. There are so many wagons of old restored and you could spend hours here.
Beautiful place !
Very cool place. Interesting displays inside and statues outside. Worth a visit.
Nice museum
Only went in to get a pressed penny. The gift shop was nice but didn't make it in the museum. Hopefully next time.
The cost is 8 bucks to get in. One section of it was down for maintenance. Not a super large place. Does have alot ot interesting information and videos.
A great museum filled with lots of history. Employees were very helpful and very knowledgeable about the history of Cheyenne days.
Museum filled with old carriages, rodeo history, and local artwork. Great way to spend part of your day in Cheyenne
Great carriage and wagon exhibit. Also wonderful movie about Cheyenne Rodeo days. Well worth the time.
Great little museum highly recommend you stop in if you're in the neighborhood.
Great place to go see a rodeo. Also the sight where Lane Frost was killed. There is a monument of his there to show respect.
It's a great place to visit, me and my wife had the best time ever, we will be coming back..
An AMAZING way to spend the afternoon. Cost is relatively inexpensive, and there is something there for everyone to enjoy
Really enjoyed all the history.
The night shows are great especially PBR
Still the Daddy of em all!🤠 …
We took family to see Cheyenne and had a great time learning more about what happen in the frontier days.
Small museum but great collection of old horse drawn wagons, coaches, etc. Well worth a stop.
One of the largest collections of carages I've ever seen. Would have been nice to have window light subdued for photos.
Love, love, love! My kids enjoyed their section and wanted more. Plus the gift shop is awesome
Enjoyable day in Cheyenne.
Interesting history on local history, it was however a bit disorganized. Exhibits were not grouped consistently grouped chronologically, or by topic.
Great tourist attraction friendly people lots of cool stuff to see
Fun place to view old west history and the story of "Frontier Days" in Cheyenne. Great collection of coaches!
Great place to see some impressive artifacts from the State's history. Incredibly knowledgeable staff.
Great place to learn some history. Extremely nice staff I took my 2 daughters for a daddy daughter date
I enjoyed this place. If you have any interest in the local history of Cheyenne this is a must visit.
As you walk into the museum you at once feel embraced with the ole true west, you will never forget ,nor want to forget,a must see.
They had pretty cool stuff here I picked the cars there too
Great place to see CFD history. The carriage and wagon collection is unique and worth the time.

The cariages are wonderful the place is nice and clean and the kid's Room is very awsome my kids had lots of fun.
Really awesome place for a quick visit. Would love to come to the full festival.
Are you a big fan of Frontier Days? Then you will love it here! Never heard of Frontier Days, then this probably isn't the place for you.
Has a lot of items that are Western and Cheyenne Frontier Days along with many types of jackets, t-shirts and jewelry.
Not super hands on, but has good multimedia exhibits. Cool place to learn about Cheyenne and frontier days.
Nice little museum with a lot of historical artifacts and during CFD a great Art Show an Auction.
Loved this place!!! Staff was very knowledgeable and nice to visit with. Enjoyed the time we spent there
Local western history up-close; including many gorgeously restored horse-drawn vehicles and western art.
An awesome place, even if most of the exhibit consists of wagons and buggies.
This is a place I would recommend to friends and family as the volunteer people at the front desk are always friendly and willing to give information on any thing cheyenne related.
One of the best rodeos I have been in I am so thankful that I was able to ride.
One of a kind crafts and souveniers. Enjoyed it although did not have time to attend the rodeo.
Nice local museum, large array of exhibits, and a corner for the youngsters to do hands on.
Loved it so much!!! Very fun and informative. So family friendly
Admission price is high and it wasnt really my kind of museum but had I not gone I wouldn't have known
Great time and place. "Last Cowboy Standing" nuff said.
Great museum of Americana! Excellent display of carriages of the old west!
What a wonderful museum we hope to come back when we can spend more time
Wonderful. Visited a couple of yrs ago during Frontier Days and enjoyed. Saw items I missed before.

Superb, do not miss this visit
The museum is very complete in the collection of articles and history of the rodeo in Wyoming, there is a nice collection of old carriages. There is no information in Spanish
Museum basically based on the history of the Frontier in Cheyenne. They have a large section of various carriages. It costs $10 per person, so it's not much, you can visit it.
Nice but not exciting museum. If the visit of Cheyenne is passing through and you are short on time, it does not deserve priority among the things to see.
Nice museum although it was closed to admire it better...
Very good, we liked the visit, but I liked the price n9 8 dollars per person, I find it excessive
Like most American museums: lots of scene, but little substance !!! 🤣
Attend a rodeo: a great moment!
