Reviews of Craik-Patton House
Had a great tour of both the Craik Patton house and the Ruffner cabin. Docent was very knowledgeable. It's a free tour with donations gladly accepted. Highly recommend! My father assumes the hopper-grinder would have been used for corn but values others input.
Nathan is an excellent docent. It is obvious that he loves his work! Note: you can park in the property or right next door. See photos.
Took my 89 yr old grandmother & 3 boys - 13, 11 & 8. Nathan was a great tour guide & everyone enjoyed & learned something! My grandma especially enjoyed all the care taken in the house with details like the food made from clay & the tea sets arranged beautifully. We also got to see the Hatfields & McCoys exhibit & I thought it was very well done with photos & great timelines & explanations. Very happy with our stop!
Had so much fun. The tour guide is very good and very knowledgeable. The tour is free.
Excellent tour. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. This is a great place to explore local and West Virginia history. I highly recommend the Craik-Patton House.
We love history and decided to check it out. We were running late and called to ask how late we could arrive and still tour the house. Nathan ensured us if we were there by 3:45 he would be glad to give a full tour. He did a great job and is obviously passionate about his work. If your a history buff and or love old homes, check this place out. There is no charge but they accept donations.
The tour was very nice and informative. The guide did a great job and let us see all of the available areas including the cabin, all at our own pace. It helped that we were there only ones on the tour too, we had his undivided attention. I'm glad we took the time to check it out.
Excellent. So glad went. The guide was really good. Thanks. So many interesting things
My 12 yr old was very interested. Taking pics for class at school. Donations accepted. Free parking. Not for babies n toddlers. This isn't really well for handicapped if you want to ser all the floors . Front steps . Rear steps. Office out beside house.
I highly recommend the Craik Patton House for small weddings. Nate was awesome to work with and was exceedingly patient in answering all of my questions. When asked how many chairs would fit on the porch, he pulled out a measuring tape to provide an exact answer. He also worked tirelessly during the rehearsal and wedding to make sure the grounds were manicured and the reception area was spotless. His passion for the historical preservation of the home and its belongings was obvious.
We didn't go in, were able to walk the grounds.
Excellent tour and very detailed. I loved learning about West Virginia's history and the Pattons's. I highly recommend that you go on the tour.
Nathan was a fantastic tour guide. Wicked smart!!! We really enjoyed our visit.
Amazing property with tremendous history. The guide was a true historian who knew so much about not just the home and family, but the whole area. Worth your stop if ever in Charleston.
A wonderful place to visit. The guides were so kind and knowledgeable. Free parking and admission, and a piece of local history. Go!
Beautiful & tour guide very educated about the history of Charleston. Also free, Wii take donations & they deserve them.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable! The grounds were beautiful nice stop on our day of exploring!
Very knowledgeable curator. Great tour. Loved it. Would highly recommend seeing this historic house.
Well restored and preserved historic home minutes away from the Capitol. Knowledgeable staff and committed volunteers.
Very knowledge tour guide. Historic place with ties to both Civil War and World War II.
I didn't go in, just took a photo of the house the log cabin next to it. Cute place!
