Reviews of Avampato Discovery Museum

Multi-level children's museum/science center/art center.
We've been to a lot of children's museums across country, and I was very impressed with the price of this one for what you got. Sometimes museums can be $30+ dollars for kids, this one only $9 for adults and $7.50 for kids which was very reasonable. Many different interactive activities from music to water to human body to industry.
We took our two school-age children and spent over 2 hours at the museum, probably could have spent longer but ran out of time due to closing (5 p.m.). Definitely would say this place is from age toddlers all the way to older children. So many interactive learning opportunities for kids. We did see a group of what looked like high school students participating in many of the activities which was really fun! They were being very respectful and not on their devices.
Public parking was across the street with a kiosk to pay. The museum is three levels with stairs and elevators. On the bottom floor there was an area for food and a few vending machines. Each floor had restrooms and a few stations for hand sanitizing. There was an outdoor area as well with a few games, beautiful sculptures, and picnic tables. My son's favorite area was the human body area with the interactive dance and basketball or the music rooms. My daughter's favorite area was the My Town downstairs, which was like an interactive child run town for free play. Very cool!
Overall decided to stop on a whim and glad we did. Would recommend people who are traveling with kids in the area.

We absolutely love it here! We take the kids regularly and are members. So many fun things to do and special events.

The theater design gives you a pretty good view from even the back seats. Elegant, attractive design without being overly fancy. The staff is nice and helpful. The seats are fairly comfortable, but you might feel the need to stretch your legs after an hour/hour and a half. The keep the restrooms pretty clean also. Great place. My crappy little photo is from the Video Games Live show.

Everytime I'm in Charleston I take my grandson there. He loves it, especially the city downstairs.

My three young boys have grown up going here a few times per year. They have some excellent and very educational exhibits and the content is changed periodically to keep it fresh. I love this place. It's housed within The Clay Center along with an Imax theater and a three level auditorium that hosts the symphony and concerts.

A must see when visiting Charleston. Lots to do and see at the Clay Center. The night Google asked me to review I was there seeing the symphony. Usually I'm in the Avampato Discovery Museum or the Imax theater with my boys.

People: Staff are energetic, fun, but professional.
Place: The Avampato Discovery Museum is located inside the The Clay Center for Arts and Sciences of West Virginia. It is an amazing building and space.
