Reviews of Montshire Museum of Science
Rita Garwood
The Montshire Museum is a wonderful place to take children for a few hours. The hands-on exhibits are plentiful and educational. There's something for children of all ages, including an enclosed play area for children five and under.
The museum is surrounded by beautiful grounds with fountains and many kids were playing in them when we visited today. I wish we'd known about this as I would've brought swimsuits along!
The museum has a nice gift shop with science-themed toys and a few snacks. The museum is right across the bridge from Hanover, NH and Dartmouth so there are plenty of restaurants a couple minutes away.
Vitaliy Glotov
Nice museum. Of course it is a bit smaller than Science Museum in Boston but it felt more modern. Geared towards kids but plenty of hands on for adults as well. Overall was a pleasant trip. We visited in the winter so did not explore the trails/park.

Visited late morning on a Tuesday in early August. This is a world-class venue for kids. The various sites around the museum are hugely engaging and the level of hands-on activity is outstanding. There’s stuff for kids of all ages. I came here as a child and probably hadn’t been for about 25 years before coming back again with my own child. We stayed for about 2-3 hours but could have stayed longer. So much fun. An absolute must-visit if you’re in the area and have kids.

I have a 9 year old, 1.5 year old, & a 6 month old. They all had a blast here! My 9 year old told me it was the best science museum he’s ever been to. My 1.5 year old was having a grand ol time running around and playing in the 5 and under area. & my 6 month old even got to enjoy himself, they have a little corner area with a loft, a big mirror and pillows for your baby to look at themselves and roll around. I will absolutely be coming back here before the summer ends. The water area outside was also really refreshing on a nice hot day!

"Do touch," seems to be the motto of the Montshire, where each of its 125 exhibits begs for hands-on interaction. Our 7 y.o kid enjoyed a lot and was asking when we can return back. Wish this was near to our house. We did enjoy our couple of hours stay while our vacation in Vermont. Would highly recommend.
It’s being a weekday, not much crowded. The facility was well maintained and provided many opportunity for trying out out on your own. Son enjoyed making the sailboat ⛵️ as part of 4:00 pm learning activity. Gift 🎁 shop is also good and have something for every science enthusiast.
Michael Fechtmann
This place is awesome for kids and adults! There's 2 large floors of interactive exhibits about basic mechanics, animals and insects, bubbles/surface science, music, air flow, and brain teasers, and then 3 small floors that have light physics, and fog exhibits and an observatory. Great for toddlers on up!
Shanna Emanuel
Amazing museum to visit with young children. Spent 5 hours playing, exploring and learning. There is a great water play area outside, and exhibits are rotated often. Highly recommend getting a membership and returning again and again!

Montshire in the fall.
The Good: Beautiful views from the 3rd floor, lots of fun things to do for the kids and adults! We spent most of our time in the 2nd floor air gadgets room and the younger kids play area so much fun.
The Not so good:
It was very stuffy inside, no air flow. And the rocks in the young childrens area could potentially be Very dangerous as they are hard as cement and in the middle of the room where kids walk and run. Those should go or be replaced with soft rubber (which I thought they were and sat down on one thinking it would be soft as it is a room just for kids 5 and under (this age is very clumsy) it hurt my butt bone.
Also no water outside was running in October.
Still a fun inexpensive place for the family!
Masina Turituri-Work
Went here with my husband, we had an absolute blast feeling like kids again experimenting with bubbles and flying paper airplanes! Such an awesome little museum and definitely fun for any age range!
Stephen Flaherty
Great spot on a busy vacation day. The inside has 2 real levels full of engaging experiments. While they go upntob5 floors and have an observation deck the top floors are one exhibit small rooms. Great fro little ones (2+) all the way through high school. I enjoyed the live animals, snapping turtles, leaf cutter ants, fish, etc... and both the music making and bubble making sections.
Only negative... for its size and location the cost is not cheap for a family. 17$ or so for each adult and $14 each for kids of any age... that adds up.
Bonus, great outdoor spaces to explore along the river too.
MadNightHawk
I could write a book about how amazing Montshire is! This museum does an incredible job at introducing and teaching children about all things scientific as well as getting them excited about it! My young child begs to come here all the time; it's SO much fun! (It's fun for me too lol!)
Super bonus points for amazing staff and affordability- including financial aid for those who qualify.
CHECK IT OUT!
Andrew Robinson
A wonderful place to bring your kids, both young and old.
There is fun stuff to do there for ages 3 right up to 18.
Experiment with physics and biology and everything in between.
There are some nice walks to take on the property as well as lots of fun adventures and experiments for kids to do as well.
It can be a bit pricey, so if you intend on going more than once in a year it is beneficial to get the membership pass for your family.
Chandra Lekha Saripudi
Very Interesting place and we had so much fun. Unlike few other museums you can touch and feel everything at this place. Good place for kids. Definitely going to visit this place if I visit Vermont.
Gemma Jones
Amazing!! We stayed all day. So much thought and care has been taken in designing this place and it really shows. We were pleasantly surprised by the gift shop also, a great variety of price points meant my kids could use their allowance to buy something - a rarity in "tourist" gift shops. The staff were so friendly and happy to talk to my inquisitive four year old. Can't recommend this place enough - definitely worth the entrance fee! Bring swimmers and water shoes in the summer as there is also a great water play place outside.
Kat Juffre-Ernst
Took 2 kids (9 &11) hubby and grandparents! Everyone had a wonderful time! Something for every interest! It was a bit warm, my dad (80) had a hard time breathing with his mask on as he suffers from COPD and decreased lung capacity. Wonderful spot! Masks required and reservations highly suggested! They have lots of hand sanitizer stations all over as well! I am very concerned about COVID-19 and I felt safe being there with my kids!
Leah Lauritzen
This is such an enriching space for kids, inside and out. Thoughtful designs of interactive exhibits that are always slightly changing to keep interest high even when we visit frequently. There's so much to explore on the trails, at the outdoor play spaces, and inside. You can visit everyday for a week and have new activities every day!
Michael Dempsey
What a great place for kids of all ages. I loved watching my 5 grandkids explore and discover. My favorites were the bubble tools and the video microscope. Outside water park is also engaging.
Nate Kunz
We are so glad we found this gem on our road trip through New England! It’s a toss up to determine whether it was the three boys or me who was more entertained by the well-crafted experiments and exhibits. We’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a hands-on museum that the whole family will love.
Michael Coss
Very nice hands on museum. Grandkids had a lot if fun. Was able to apply admission to a membership which worked out well for my niece who lives in Vermont. All in all highly recommended
Amanda Aspinall
Great place for children to explore. I continue to renew my membership and love all of the exhibits. My boys enjoy the bubbles and watching the ants.
Rachel Wood
Such a fun place to visit for kids of all ages! We took our 12 year old here for a birthday and it was a huge hit. There is plenty to do both inside and outside to make a great trip.
Google User
My son is 8 years old and we had a wonderful time. At the 2:00 exhibit he learned how to create a series circuit and a parallel circuit. David who showed him was wonderful!
Samantha Paradise
This is one of my favorite places to bring my young children. Indoor and outdoor activities to keep them busy all day. The littles love the fantastic bubble making area. I love the outdoor kids area. They have splash fountains that are so much fun. Also, a play ground type spot that has rope swings, hammocks, large wooden blocks, balance beams and a nice spot for parents to chill while they play. Many trails varing from novice to experienced even handicap accessible trails. I also love the programs they have to make the museum affordable to all in the community. (Warm Welcome) The flyer states all NH and VT EBT or Medicaid recipients can receive a full year family membership for 20$.
Michael Lyman
Big time science museum in a small town. As good as any big city science museum, but without the crowds. Great for the kids. Loved the scale model of the solar system hike, but only made it to Jupiter.
TheMSMReaper
I brought my kids here on their last break. They loved it. I'm looking forward to going back in the summer to do some of the outdoor activities. Very clean and well-organized. There were lots of fun interactive activities for kids of all ages.
Barre Flynn
This is a hands on science museum for children. It is geared for younger children up to about age 12. My 10 year old really enjoyed the exhibitions. Very well done and a remarkable amount of information.
Lisa Strykowski Williamscraig
Excellent facility. Great hands-on exhibits, lots of fun, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We'll be back.
Melissa Trzesiara
Always a great place to explore. Lots of interactive exhibit. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Highly reccomend!
Victoria Miller
My son had SO much fun here. The museum is huge and has so many cute activities and exhibits. I’d definitely recommend stopping if you have children!!
Alexis Wood
Always love bringing our kids, so much fun and learning involved very clean and organized staff is amazing. We get the membership which makes it cheaper.
Brandi Rowell
The museum was a blast! Brought my sister and one of her kids. My nephew really liked all the interactive exhibits like the puzzles and instruments. I love this place and plan to go back again!
Joel Tortoriello
Incredible interactive museum. Good for any age kids. So much to do. Easily over three hours of interactive fun. Not to mention the stuff outside if you go on a day nice enough to enjoy those exhibits. The staff are wonderful, so nice and helpful. The exhibits are challenging but fun. We had out 5 yo boy and 7 yo girl and there were blown away by everything. There are some brain puzzles on the second floor that night need some adult coaching, but very fun.
Elizabeth Richardson
Even though it looked really crowded from the parking lot, inside there was plenty of space to move about!
I came here as a kid and just went back with my kid nephew and niece. A lot of the same exhibits with the same deep impact. Tons of things for kids of all ages. I think the bubbles are the biggest hit. We didn't make it around the whole place but what we saw was clean, fun and well maintained!
We will be back!
Katie Hinds
I cannot say enough about this museum. It is a true experience for kids (and adults) of all ages! We were there for 7 hours and still had to coax our 10 year old out just before closing time.. The exhibits are largely hands on and the staff on the floor are phenomenal. Our son's favorite part was the outdoor water park. Not your average water park. Playing with water pressure, ping pong balls, dams, there are a bunch of small fountains and man made river features. The Monstshire is perfect for your little engineer or budding biologist! We will definitely be back!
Annette Vallieres
Amazing museum for kids and families. They offer the best rates for VT residents check out their website for details. Definitely plan on multiple visits because one day isn't even close to enough if you want to experience the whole place
dina n
One of the best museums I have been to! The layout, exhibits, and staff are all great. They also have hiking trails, a huge play waterway, and a wading area.
Paul Wharton
The montshire science museum is definitely for children (or those who are not well versed in science). From my perspective, it is best suited for children age 4 through 16. Not that others would not enjoy themselves accompanying children of this age, but for me, my wife, in 19-year-old daughter, it wasn't right for us.
Nathaniel Keck
This was such a fun and enchanting experience! Clearly geared toward the young, this museum is a wonderful place for children to learn the basics in many scientific disciplines. There is a strong lean toward life science and nature, and the location of the grounds is perfect to these ends. What I wish I had seen more of is a section devoted to basic astronomy. Planets and stars! That would be such a cool addition, not just as an intermittent event (meteorites were on the agenda the day we attended) but as a permanent part of the exhibit. These days we are always hearing news about rocket launches and rovers, discoveries and technological exhibitions in orbit and on Mars, supermoons, eclipses, and so much more that transpires outside our atmosphere. As a science museum, I feel this is a very important category to highlight! And as a child, who wouldn't want to stand in a room sized model of the solar system? Anyway, with or without those additions, I highly recommend this experience!!
Andrew Earl
Very wide array of displays and activities. I recommend bringing swimsuits/changes of clothes if you plan to check out the exterior exibits like the fountains or the artificial river. Great time for multiple age groups.
Mary Fitz-Gerald
This place was amazing! So many things for the kids to do, learn, touch, feel! Definitely worth the trip, plan to spend the day exploring and re-exploring ever inch of this Museum! You will not be sorry!!!
Justin Brown
My family and I love this museum, from the outdoor exploring with water play and walking trails to the indoor science exhibits. All year round this is a family favorite of ours.
Alex Hedrick
The museum is a lot of fun, we went to see the DaVinci exhibit but enjoyed the whole experience. Looking forward to visiting again and checking out the surrounding hiking trails.
Thomas Dunbar
A great place to spend an afternoon, esp if you have younger children, and well worth the trip from almost anywhere in Vermont or New Hampshire. In the summer they have an excellent outdoor water activities area. Everything is hands on, and kids always have a blast. The tickets aren't outrageous, but it can be a little bit expensive, especially if you get anything from the store. I can't recommend this place highly enough, and I would definitely buy a membership if I lived just a little bit closer.
Erin Torres
A little pricey but definitely fun for the kids, and there is an area for babies and toddlers as well. Well worth a membership, especially in the winter.
sonohuey
For a day or fun and learning, you can't beat the Montshire Museum. Indoor exhibits on sound, motion, and insects. Outdoor water exhibits and nature trails for hiking.
Joshua Mulloy
Children, Parents and Grandparents alike had a wonderful time. I have been a few times with my family and enjoyed how the exhibits change. It's a great place to explore science with with my children and the hands on exhibits are exceptional. The activities are well thought out, educational and fun. Every employee I have interacted with has been kind, knowledgeable and helpful.
Jim Girouard
We've enjoyed bringing our kids here for 20+ years. With so much closed right now it was great to have kid friendly activities to do!
Samantha Jackman
So much fun, so much to see! Bring a change of clothes. The water area was a huge hit but we didnt realize how wet we would get playing. We will definitely be back, it was worth the 2 hour drive!
jiayu deng
A well-designed venue, a very happy place for both adults and children to play!
Emily Sorensen
We absolutely love the Montshire Museum! My kids want to go all the time. There is always more to do and more to see! The staff is very nice and knowledgeable.
Althea Chen Williams
Wow, adults and littles alike were enchanted by this children's science museum. There were displays and playspaces geared towards all stages of development. The bubble section was a big hit!
The outdoor pavilion looked wonderful too. We visited early spring, but I can see it would be a lush sensory experience for all of us. Totally worth the visit.
Christina Jester
This museum had a lot of cool things to see. We really liked watching the ant colony. It was nice to have indoor and outdoor things to do including a hike.
Erin Mullen
Always an excellent experience with helpful staff and rotating exhibits. The outdoor water play is great for toddlers up through about 8 years old.
Heidi Bowers
Had a great time! Didn't like the fact that we had some major complications with the nature trail, but all around was good...
Vandreal Conley
My son and I were visiting my sister and her family. She recommended we go here. One of the best outings of our visit. Plenty for kids to see and do; even better is that they learn while having fun. I do recommend bring snacks/lunch with you as the variety there is rather limited.
I wish we could add videos to these reviews...
Isabella Fiske McFarlin
What a wonderful place for kids and adults to learn more about science in a hand salon environment. I would recommend it to anyone.
Operator K
Amazing fun for the whole family. I highly suggest going to the adult night! Great beer and food plus the fun of the museum! Awesome place!
Joseph Beaulieu (Joe)
We had a wonderful time with my daughter and her class. The museum had many different exhibits and was more general in nature, about nature. I appreciated the various exhibits and the professional presentation.
Johny B
We loved it was alot of fun
What was best was telling my gfs daughter
About how montshire used to be in hanover nh
Stephanie Echevarria
What a beautiful place where the kids learn and get creative. My kids had a blast in every area of this place ! I would definitely return.

Great variety of science demonstrations and a fun experience for children.
Travis Wise
Kids love to explore. It's nice to go somewhere so kid friendly!
Jason Resendes
This place is amazing for kids! My 7 year old and my 11 month old both loved their time here. It’s almost an all day stop. My 7 year old loved the bubble exhibit and using the zoom camera to get a better view at the various items. My 11 month old lived the 5 & under play area couldn’t get enough of the outside water areas. Take your kids here!
Elissa Brown
My 5yr old son loves it. They have many free events to go to. The have rates for low income families as well!
Bionic Commando
The Montshire is an amazing year round treat for both kids and parents alike, from the hands on exhibits to the outside water area, there is so much to do and see for all ages.
It is a 5 minute commute to downtown Hanover and Dartmouth college, so after an afternoon of fun and education there is still plenty to do as well as plenty of local eats.... make a day of it....
Kelly Chabrier
Absolutely wonderful muesum. My daughter loves going there. She learns something new every time. Definitely a fun learning experience for the whole family. The bubbles are so much fun!
Bruce Monroe
Could not get her away from the spinning table. Had so much fun with instruments too
Rick Bateman
Great place for the grandkids!!!
Entertainment for a day...
Tim Stetson
Great place to learn with some hands on and nature trails!
Sarah Leshay
We have come twice now and loved this museum both times. The first time we explored it with a four year old and then we returned five years later with two nine year olds. They loved it still! The water area has always been a bit but the hands in displays were also enjoyed. The girls said it was the best part of our Vermont trip! Highly recommend.
Elle Marie B
Great place for kids that are 10 and under with plenty of hands on activities. We went when weather was to cold for water area outside but looks like it would be fun.
Nad Rodríguez
Really cool place to bring your family. Kids will love it!
Mike Plough
Believe it or not, I was so busy having fun learning I only snapped one photo of the experience and it's not very helpful. Great place for children, and the young at heart. The hiking trails were a wonderful cruise.
Luna Dunbar
Wonderful museum! Fun for all ages. The bubble exhibit is fantastic!
Ember Tilton
Very cool, I didn't know it was here for years, but we had so much fun.
Kelsey Marston-Perez
There is so much to do for all ages. From toddlers to adults. Our favorite stations were the bubbles, brain testers and the solve a mystery. We'll be back again
Eric Schlim
Really enjoyed our visit. Lots of fun stuff for varying ages. Will definitely visit again.
Christopher Stoddard
A great little science museum. While the indoor exhibits are good the outdoor play areas are amazing. Great for littles up to around age 10-11.
Heather Doyle
Great place for kids and adults. So much learning fun and outdoor activities and adventure
Mrhashtagpickle

Great place to spend a family day!
Galen Perkins
Beautiful facility! Lots of fun activities for kids of all ages. Skilled museum staff! Fun was had by all.
MemeMommy
Theres always something new to see and do here! Absolutely worth getting the annual pass.
Marcus Vecoli
Fantastic children's museum. Both indoor and outdoor adventures to be had. Can certainly spend a full day here, so pack accordingly. Bathing suits for the kids are a good option to have (weather permitting)
Phillip Gioia
Good for kids and adults with indoor and outdoor activities.
Robb Kidd
Great science museum for kids, but is also a great place for community events and discussions
D R
For a small town its niceish. Nothing really for kids over 3rd grade or adults, older kids will be bored. The splash park is small and easily crowded. My kids said to give it a 2 they were very underwhelmed. Nothing particularly unique. My kids said the experiments were all things they had done at school. Not really worth the high admission. If they were part of the science museum passport I might take my 1st grader again, but they aren't.
Amanda King
Excellent for all ages. Such a fun place for families! Can't wait to go when its warmer and check out the stuff they have outside too
Ryan Anderson
I've been there a few times, always amazing there. My 2 year old went for the first time she loved it there.
Evelyn OBrien
Was nice getting back . We Hafner been since covid hit. Was fabulous as always. We got our year membership so we can return. Definitely a great experience for school children. Hands on .
Peter Bolduc
Amazing experience for all! Beautiful and interesting exhibits, plenty of outdoor areas to explore (the water/splash area, nature trails, and play grove were our favorites). An opportunity to have a ton of fun and learn about so many different things. Something for everyone here, children and adults alike.
Mike Shank
Fabulous, very doable and enjoyable science museum which works for the entire family. Visited with family and all ages were delighted with this wonderful museum. Great, fun, educational, hands on, experiential museum with a great combination of fun, challenge, learning, entertainment all in a reasonable sized venue which can be enjoyed in 2 hours or a full day. Beautiful grounds, water attraction, place for kids to run around for n swim suits under sprinklers and walk through artificial stream. Great nature hike and view of the river. Great puzzles and mind games. A chance to launch gigantic bubbles. Plenty of things for hyperactive kids and the most studious of your brood. Very highly recommended! Great staff. Great gift shop and book store.
Sneha Kumari
Always pleases my little one and equally fun for me!
Cyrus Cross
Such a valuable resource and impressive educational facility for the Upper Valley and beyond
Nicole Lee
Amazing! Spent 4 hours with my 3 year old and 9 month old and could've stayed longer! So much learning! We will be back!
AKH
We all love this place, highly recommended for kids and adults!
Nichole Crowe
Whenever I visit Vermont I take my kids here they love it. It's a surprisingly great place with lots to do. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.
Leaf Ahern
the kids love it, there's lots of stuff to do
Patricia Bowman
Brought my grandsons here who are 3 and 1½ years old and they had a great time. Very interactive museum for younger children. Weather wasn't great the day we went so we couldn't do the outdoor activities.
Diane Harrison
What a fun place! You don't have to be a kid to enjoy the trails and exhibits. Price is a bit steep though. Would like to see it at half the price so more families could afford it.
Tara Brooks
What an AMAZING PLACE.....I was as excited as my 7 year old at the museum.....The staff is amazing and the exhibits are just out of this world! I suggest buying a season pass for $20 bcuz you could keep going back as an amazing day trip whenever possible......very impressed!
RaverSnowLep
This is a great place for younger kids. Probably in the 8 to 10 range is the best.
Museum is large enough so the kids can really enjoy exploring but small enough that they don't need to be supervised 100% of the time. Parents don't have to tag along with their children they can take a seat at the base level on the provided benches and catch their breath while the kids have fun
Laura Heselton
A fabulous afternoon with my grandchildren. Husband and children.
Abbigail Teachout
We have a membership here. We love it and visit as often as we can. We usually don't see everything each visit but we could spend hours here. The staff is always attentive and the ladies at the front desk always have a smile on their face. The bathrooms are usually in great shape. There's not usually any staff outside for the water feature exhibits. They do change some exhibits out often bit there's a few that have never changed. The tree house area for little ones is fun but seems it needs some updating or someone in the staff to check in on it, the balls are often not there and things seem to be missing but I know kids can be rough and in all the excitement leave with items meant to stay.
All in all, there's so much to do here. It's fun for all ages but my 8 year old has loved it since she was probably 4 years old. Our 1 year old loves most of it also.
Catherine Deitelbaum
This place knows children. A wonderful museum for kids ages 2-12, but enough to satisfy teens who tag along. they have hands on exhibits, as well as an amazing outside water space that becomes a great play spot in the summer. There is also a trail system outside. Highly recommend, bring a picnic lunch and relax on the grounds. Everyone in family will find something to enjoy about it.
Lindsy Jackson
Love bringing the family here. They do a wonderful job keeping the exhibits fresh while also maintaining the staple exhibits that we love seeing everytime. We love that there's indoor and outdoor experiences and it is all hands on. We typically spend 4-5 hours here maybe longer if we really take our time and do the nature trails.
Amber Fixler
Our group of 31 enjoyed a lovely winter day at the museum. All the staff seemed genuinely happy to have us there (which can be unusual when you bring a large group of kids anywhere). The exhibits encourage PLENTY of hands on learning and experimentation. It's a great place to make observations about physics and nature. We enjoyed the bubble making area and musical instruments the most. I hope to visit in summer to try out the outdoor exhibits.
Meche
Really fun, great for all ages to discover, learn, and play.
MOUSHALINA Asmeron
Loved this museum! They had something for everyone. My husband and I took my 2 year old thinking we would only be there for 20 minutes or so. But boy were we wrong. We spent over an hour just on the first floor! The exhibits were both educational and interactive.
Tammie Morrison
Best place ever! Grandkids were exhausted when we left!
The Ward
New exhibit opened today! It is very thoughtful designed for the preschooler set. Safe, attractive and, given the enthusiasm of a room full of toddlers, very interesting too. Comfortable seating for watching caregivers. Climbing and crawling structures, stacking blocks, various interesting ways to roll balls, a bucket on a pulley to fill and empty endlessly, a telescope, puppets, magnets.... We really enjoyed it. Then of course we went over and got covered in soap at the bubble exhibit, as always.
Joseph A. Roberts III
Easy to get to, great balance of fun and enriching activities, I love the fish and turtles in tanks! My kids love the place, been going there since my son was 3, he is 8 now and my daughter is 6. The trails are nice, and the "river" behind is great in the summer, bring bathing suits and a towel and prepare to spend all day!
Tiffany Van Valzah
I had never been, and I was happy to get in for the walk in and my two children ages 2 and 3 enjoyed it, however, they didn't understand a lot of it so I just wish the price wasn't as high for their age. I was also spoken to for my 3 yr old not having his mask over his nose, as much as I try to get him to, it was hot in there and he's 3. I'm not sure we will come back, at least for a few yrs.
jacob waldron
1st time going with our 25 month old daughter. It was great. Friendly people and interactive stuff for all young kids. I'd personally always try to go on a nice day for the outside experience . Will definitely be going back.
M. Elisabeth Spong
This place is great if you have kids. There is an area for really small kids which is great for tactile learning developing motor skills and socializing. There is a nice variety of live exhibits and interactive exhibits for older kids. The trails outside are great and nice weather. Really great for a small local Science Museum. My ten-month-old loves it here.
Elizabeth Huestis
So much to see!!! Plan on a full day here, because you will definitely need it! Don't forget your kids bathingsuits, when you go outside there is fun water exhibits they can play right in! Fun place, worth the drive.
jenny cougle
My two-year old had the time of his life here. He enjoyed every exhibit, even the ones that went over his head. He almost enjoyed it as much as my husband, who we kept losing! I wish we lived locally and could visit frequently. The staff were so pleasant and the facilities were very clean. We will be back!
Cecilia Labrecque
My family and I got the membership pass that allows us up to 6 people per visit. It was well worth it.
The have exhibits they offer are all hands on and fun to do. The outdoor water area ( not for swimming) is just has interesting and they have a cool little trail that you walk through.
Reid Sox-Harris
Some really good exhibits spanning from engineering to biology, and plenty of fun things to do as well! Water park is great for small kids on a hot day, and the expansive trail system is good for the older folks. All in all, great museum for all ages and interests.

Me and my wife love coming here on occasion to get candy & to look at the shops inside. The shops are pricy since it is a tourist attraction. But you can get decent deals sometimes. The staff In all of the shops are very friendly. Never had an issue coming here. It's fun for all ages. I do suggest coming here!
Wade C Davis
Great science museum for many ages. Activities run by staff are awesome. And the leaf cutter ants are amazing. Great outdoor space, too. Bring spare clothes for the little ones, so they can play in the fountains.
Elizabeth
I would love to visit here in spring or summer so I can see what the outside activities are like! Such a cool place for families. It is very interactive!
Beth L
This is an awesome museum with 3 floors and ever changing exhibits. They have interactive presentations several times a day. There is indoor and outdoor seating for food that you bring with you. As far as on site food, there's a couple vending machines. We can easily start the day when they open and leave just before they close wishing for more time. There are a few staple exhibits that all the kids love. There's a bubble exhibit that features generating very tiny bubbles to 6 foot tall bubbles. People stay in this one exhibit for a while. We usually want to see other exhibits after about 30 minutes. Another very popular exhibit is Andy's Place. It's a play space for children 5 and under. Hands down, the best exhibit in the spring and summer is the water exhibit. Kids can spend hours playing outside with water that shoots up, pours down and pools at the bottom. It's not so deep that small children cannot play. It's worth the price and they have discounts with an EBT and I believe a military ID.
Jesse Huntoon
Fun for the whole family. When we visited they even had a food truck serving up great fair style foods
Ruth Anne Burke
Fantastic, hands on museum. I loved it when I was a kid, and it's only gotten better since. Has plenty to keep kids from toddlers to elementary ages engaged and interested both inside and out. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the exhibits are all well thought out, and the trails are great.
Michelle Thomas
We recently got a membership and love it. My two year old especially likes the bubble exhibit. We have a lot of fun and usually spend a couple hours here each time we go. If I had to make a suggestion id recommend they change the exhibits out more. It seems like the ones they change are all really similar
Lucas Rifkin
This looks like a lovely little place with all kinds of exhibits focused on children but also entertaining for adults. They were very nice to us when we paid for entry then realized we were in the wrong place, as we meant to go to temperament and institute of nature and science to see live birds. If I wasn’t determined to go there I would’ve stayed and checked it out but they were nice enough to return our payment and give us directions.
Larry JBird
This is one of the only cool places to take your kids to in Vermont. They do an exceptional job of keeping the kids engaged and entertained. We usually spend at least 4 hours here. In the summer you can tap on an extra 2 hours because there's a nice water area outside. You can bring your own lunch and snacks too. It's well worth the minimum cost to get in.
Lori Pohl
Love every single time we go to the Montshire
bethanybechard
By far our favorite museum. They are always changing up the exhibits and keeping my daughter entertained. We really enjoy the outside water park and the hiking trails as well. Very welcoming to all families of all shapes, size and the trails are suitable for people who aren't very fit, like myself!
Steven Kane
What a great place for kids and parents. A hands on museum which teaches, entertains and provides an energy outlet for children with a well designed, safe environment. My 2.5 year old granddaughter spent 4 hours here and was enthralled with the place. We certainly will return even though it is a solid two hours away.
Steve Davidson
Amazing place that keeps your kids entertained for hours and your inner child wanting to come back for more.
Momentary Madness
An amazing place for kids and adults. The new Wonder Woods play area for young kids is great, and the rest of the museum is so much fun. Nature trails are fun to explore, and the water features outside are great on hot days.
Steve Koenemann
Awesome experience... Have not visited for quite a few years and today it was with our grandson. Even though he has visited before, there was more than enough to keep him busy and interested for several hours.
Casey Bancroft
Love this place. Bought a season pass for four at a very reasonable price ($115 I believe). Take my 2 1/2 year old daughter there a couple of times each week after I get out of work and we can easily kill a couple of hours. Staff is friendly and plenty of things for the kiddo's to to do both inside and out.
Jason Hill
The Montshire is an incredible local asset. We are locals and have a membership, and we (or the grandparents) take our 3 yr old there about once a month. It's all about having fun while leave and exploring. Big enough to always find something new to focus on, and small enough to get to know. The splash area is a huge hit in the summer. Hands on exhibits might include anything from experiments with gravity, vacuums, musical instruments, pendulums or just fun with giant bubbles and blocks. An annual membership is easily justified if you go more than once a year.
Megan
Out of state adult here, solo adventured to this place and it was without a doubt a blast!!! $17 admission. :) Be creative, learning something new, solve puzzles, and just enjoy it!
Valerie D
Great place. It's a four in one, aquarium, science exhibits, trails and water. I should have brought a bathing suit for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She was very happy and it was entertaining for me. Definitely going back!
Green Mountain Hippy
Great plave to take the family on these colder days.
Katherine Mayerovitch
I can't say enough wonderful things about this place! Fun, educational, and accessible for kids of all ages. The first floor is especially great for little ones and their older siblings and friends who want to explore together, while the upper floors are mainly of interest to older children. The outdoor trails are great as well. If you're bored on a snowy day, pop over to King Arthur (just up the road) for cinnamon rolls, then run off all that excess energy here. Unlike many museums aimed at kids, it's not at all overstimulating, it's just perfect.
Chuck Rissala
I've been going here since I was a kid in the 90s. Now I take my kids here. They're always putting up new exhibits. Whether you're 5 or 25, there are things here to catch your interest for hours and teach you new things. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly and helpful. I recommend this place.
Ray Chow
Great science museum, our 5 year old loves it! Not an overwhelming large place, but the place is packed with engaging and interactive exhibits that kids young and old will get a kick out of. They also rotate in new stuff, so we see something new every time we come while visiting our friends in Vermont.
Justin McIver
Today was our second trip to the museum. Our 5yo absolutely loves all the various exhibits and that he can bounce between them as he likes. It seems he even picks up bits of knowledge (as we'd hope) from them. An excellent place we hope to be able to visit again and again.
Bob Noeding
My grandson loved it. He played for hours learning how different things work. He can't wait to come back
Juan Diegalo
The BEST staff at any museum, so friendly and warm and wise. Some of the exhibits are a bit dated, but they keep adding new stuff all the time. We visit several times a year, just to play and learn and socialize.
Yvonne Pfeiffer
Great museum for young kids. Ours, aged 3 and 5, enjoyed it very much. Particularly the blue bricks, the bubbles, and playing with air tubes. Outside seemed great, too. It was raining therefore we didn't spent much time there. Nice picknick-tables along the parking lot.
Pat Canny
The design of this museum - both its interior and exterior exhibits - is marvelous. There aren't many places that can capture a child's attention this consistently. The exhibits are entertaining and extremely hands on. The hiking trails are beautiful - and come with "shortcuts" for tired kiddos! Definitely a "season and weather" dependent experience, but when the weather is right, this is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.
Paul l
Fantastic place. So glad we made it part of our plan for the trip.
Julie Schoelzel
This is such a wonderful museum that you can enjoy alongside with your kids. If your kids enjoy bubbles and water they will be especially happy. We usually bring a change of clothes as sometimes they end up getting wet.
Laura Vigue
Always has interactive and creative exhibits, which are fun for adults and kids alike. Admission is reduced if you have an EBT card, which is incredible! Layout makes it easy to track your kids, there is a separate play space for kids 5 and under, and during summer months they have a water play area outside. Trails surrounding museum are well marked and maintained, food is available during the summer but is very expensive (a lunch for 3 can easily cost $30). Gift shop is pricey but has excellent thinking games, projects, and toys. Overall, it is well worth a visit!
Cassie Bosley
This was a fantastic children's Science center! My kids (age 4 to 9) especially loved the bubble exhibit and could have played there all day :) we wish we had had more time, especially to enjoy the outdoors!
Megan Murray
This place is great. Took a 3 year old and 5 year old, both loved it. Everything is hands on! Bubbles were especially a hit and so was the ant farm. Definitely worth the visit. Will go again during the summer to do the trails and outside features.
Adeline Thompson
Love this museum! Has things for kids of all ages! Our daughter is 18 months and had a great time. Not too overstimulating like the Children's Museum in Boston, has great outside activities too. Was $3/person for us because we have Medicare, we opted in to pay $20 and get a year membership! Excited to go back this summer! No food on property, highly suggest packing a picnic lunch.
Lisa Abbott
Exhibits and displays don't change very often. Our sons are 8 and 11 and have grown tired of seeing the same thing, So we don't go anymore.
But, there is a good variety of puzzles, reptiles, and hands on exhibits for younger kids.
The water park area is fun but all hard stone. I recommend water shoes because of the sharp gravel, and bringing your own umbrella since shady areas are a first come-first served basis with many people staying for hours. Staff is incredibly helpful and nice, also VERY knowledgeable.
Rachel Heckscher
I've been to about 50 children's and science museums and this is one of my favorites. Recently discovered the outside spaces in back during warm weather. Beautifully designed and lots of fun. I would go back even without my son - it's not just for kids!
Patrick Samson
During our spring break vacation, we stopped there with the kids. Great museum of science! Well organized! Great activities for all! I will probably go back again during summer time to see the outside trails! Keep up the great work!
Levi Heh
This is a fantastic destination for science lovers young and old -- teaching an array of concepts through the years. The have the famous "ball machine", a wildly complicated yet precise machine that comes to life when you use the spinning crank. As a child, I was there for hours every visit. Many exhibits take a lot of physical energy, which is perfect for kids to tire out at the end of your visit!
Daniel Skywalker
What a great spot for children of all ages (I'm 37, ha!). In all seriousness, lots of hands-on activities here that engage young children who, as Jean Piaget put it, are "little scientists".
Angela34
Due to the pandemic the inside exhibits are closed. The outside water exhibits are open and they have created a wonderful creative outdoor space that kids can explore and use their imagination. Can not wait until the museum is able to open the indoor exhibits again.
Phyllis Averine
We go often it's a great learning experience for all. The staff is always ready to help or to answer any questions . The water park is a blast for all ages awesome experience.ENJOY we like to go in the morning and stay inside and see everything inside in the afternoon we go outside to the water park couldn't ask for a better day
Mellisa Pensa
We planned to spend two hours because that is the normal attention span of my 6 year old and 3 year old. We were there for 4.5 hours, and left only because they were closing. The kids did not want to leave! There is so much to do. The hiking and outdoor water exhibits were great. There are also picnic tables so bring a lunch!
william swahn
Fantastic, family friendly, clean well maintained. Very hands on educational exhibits!!
White Maxx
Just took three of the grandkids, one of them aged 7, the other two aged 10, and we had a really good time and they learned a great deal. Dozens of kid-friendly interactive displays which help kids understand a very wide variety of concepts, and a demonstration area where staff conduct engaging, fun experiments. Immaculate, large facility with friendly staff and a gift area selling educational toys with proceeds benefiting the museum. Vast outdoor play area to give kids a chance to run around. We enjoyed lunch at the King Arthur Flour cafe just around the corner, but if you're watching the wallet, pack a picnic lunch because there are many exterior, shaded picnic tables where you can relax and enjoy your meal. A top-notch day of enrichment for kids of all ages! We also got a veterans' discount! See website for a variety of available discounts!
Peter Hollenbeck
Best. Place. For. Kids. My son absolutely loves this place! Sooo much to do. Outside there is a water park they is not only fun, but very educational. Pleanty of trails and other outside exhibits accentuate the experience. Indoors there is 3 floors of some very clever exhibits. Ranging from an indoor beehive, to high tech sound exhibits most of which are hands on. Topping it off is a gift shop that is reasonably priced.
Beatriz Garcia
My husband and I arrived at the museum without knowing that it’s a children museum. He had a BLAST. We played all the instruments, blew gigantic bubbles, fed the ants, went to the observation deck and went to the workshop with the volunteers. It was just amazing. We’re so happy we went!
RoseMary Huebner
This is a great place to bring kids.
Josh Harris
This place is freaking sweet. I think I had as much fun as my five year old! Indoor and outdoor exhibits are high quality, well updated, staff is friendly, and a surprising amount of variety.
Kelly Coronis
The montshire museum is really the best museum around for kids. There is so much science to explore and they are always changing things up so it doesn't matter how often you go. The outdoor science park in the summer is amazing with the water feature for kids to splash and climb in when it's hot out.
Megan McCarthy
Loved this place as a kid, still love it as an adult. Give my love to the boa constrictors if you see them!
Jenelle Pope
Good stuff. Stroller parking if you want to leave it. Some trails are handicap accessible, some are also accessible for all terrain strollers (like Bob). Exhibits rotate. Kids love the one on bubbles!
Cassie Williams
My daughter loves the Montshire, and my husband and I like it too. Our membership has paid for itself several times. The new toy exhibit upstairs was a big hit, and in the summer months the outside splash pad is excellent. We plan on renewing!
Kira Brunke
Best hidden place in VT for the kids and adults to have fun for the day!!!
Eric Leshay
Great science museum for kids. Lots of hands on exhibits, puzzles, and an amazing ant farm. They have an outdoor water play area for the kids that is great on a hot day so bring a bathing suit and towel.
Raz
Interactive, is probably the best word to describe it. This is definitely a favorite destination for my kids for both the inside and outdoor options they offer. While it may be a more obvious observation to note it makes for a great instructional and fun experience for adults and kids alike on a rainy or winter afternoon, it also boasts a great outdoor spray park in the warmer months.
Nathan Searles
So much to do here you can spend hours really exploring everything they have to offer between indoors and outdoors. Perfect for kids of all ages and the prices are reasonable. Even if you have been before it's a great place to visit over and over because they are always offering something new to explore and learn about.
Joshua Howard
Best kids museum that I have been to. Every exhibit is truly interactive and fun. A kids museum that you don't mind spending an hour or two at as an adult. My almost 4 year old had a blast here
Julie Gates
Had a fun time. I wish they would do the cost to get in by age. My 3 year old couldn't do most of the stuff on the second level. It was fun anyhow but I think I'll wait until he's a bit older so we can enjoy the entire museum.
Zee Bee
It's the best children s museum I've ever been to! Even though it's not too big it's very efficiently built! Every corner is maximized! There are myriad of activities for children of all ages!
David Martaus
Great place for school age kids and adults as well. Nice balance of indoor and outdoor spaces. Fun learning for all ages.
Kathleen “Kayta” Gajdos
Great place for kids indoors and out
Audrey Hoffa
The Montshire is our favorite place! There have been a couple of summers where we would get a pass and go every day with pack lunches, towels, and a change of clothes. It's fun to play outside in the water works and then if a thunderstorm rolls in, our day isn't ruined. When my youngest was very little, we would play in Andy's Tree while the older ones would roam the lower level and then we would ventured upstairs for activities and labs. My husband and I have loved the adult nights, sipping wine and playing with bubbles and solving puzzles! We can't wait for family visit so we can bring all of the cousins to the science museum!
nicole walsh
Great day trip or morning out any time of year. Engaging activities for all ages and great little trails to explore on foot or in snowshoes. Love that they open a room for indoor picnincing when the weather doesn't allow you to eat outside.
Katherine Edgar
I drive over 2 hours to come here is great and always wears out my niece. We went the first time in the winter months I thought it couldn't really have much more to do then we we need in summer and it's a whole different ball game. I will say it's not really suited for any kids under 2 or maybe even 3
Amethyst Crowe
A phenomenal place to bring the whole family. Staff are always pleasant, kind, and informative. There are so many activities available for all ages and the rotating exhibits are always so engaging.
Rob Lyle
Nice setup for children, lots interesting interactive exhibits. Friendly staff, altogether a great afternoon with two five-year-olds. Reccomend it to anyone.
Deborah Sweeney
The Montshire Museum is a must see. My children have never grown tired of visiting the Montshire over the years. Their displays are interactive and entertaining.
Larah Kent Tannenbaum
Really wonderful and engaging museum — of the size and quality that you’d find in a big city! Especially fun for kids!
Tanya Smith
A wonderful spot! Lots of hands on displays that keep all ages entertained for hours!
Wilhelm Wanders
Great for kids and adults alike. Always changing exhibits. Friendly staff. Get the year-round membership if you live around here - it's for a great cause. They offer great Summer camps for the kids. In the Summer enjoy the waterpark outside.
Dr. Batoul Hassan
This place is awesome. This is a hands on museum where young kids and adults can have fun. I took a 6 and 13 year old and all of us had so much fun. Don't forget the fog room upstairs.
David Greer
Perfect place for kids! Fun and stimulating. Better than Boston Children's museum for slightly older kids(my son is 8 and we found that Boston Children's Museum was a little too young for him.)
Michele Bugbee
Science made fun for persons of all ages. Different displays every time we go.
Grandchildren are now ages 12 and 13, and we always look forward top going.
Hiking trails, water fun, countless things to do.
Charlotte Holt
The North Country is so lucky to have the Montshire Museum of Science! With wildlife, science experiments, living displays (bees and leaf cutter ants!) and a full water play park in the summer this is the best place to go with kids to entertain them for the day! Highly recommend!
Jessie Scott
I volunteer here, and I love the Montshire. It has a really fun, child friendly atmosphere and most of the exhibits are hands on. The Discovery Lab on the second floor is another great place for kids and parents to get some hands on experience with a science activity!
Everett Harman
It is an interesting small science museum, mainly geared too kids under twelve. There are several exhibits and activities for the kids, but the scope is far smaller than the science museums in Boston and Hartford. For us the nicest part was that they lent us snow shoes and we had a very nice walk on snowy trails looking at animal tracks. That alone was with the visit.
a random Aquarius
Honestly, this is one of the most fun places I've ever been to. Today's my birthday Feb 4th and i went there. Its awesome theres science labs and so may different things to learn. Its even better in summer. And the gift shop is not to overpriced either. Its the perfect place for anyone. Theres so much to see and learn. No matter you age. It's abiut science, animals, herbology, music, etc. Theres something for everything
Cajun Hideaway Farmstead and Rabbitry
I was a teacher for a summer camp program. Lots of nteractive things for the kids to do. Lots of things for me to do too! The only downfall is that the museum is not set up for large groups. We wanted to check out the demonstrations in the lab, but we couldn't see anything because of the crowd. Other than that the kids had a blast, and there was something to interest all of our diverse little minds.
Sarah Roy
Amazing place to bring your kids! They will love exploring all the exhibits, including a whole area dedicated to bubbles! Bring a picnic and enough their walking trails.
John King
Great facility - would have loved something like this in my youth! Wonderful and relatively extensive walking/hiking trails too - don't miss!
Kasey Miller
I absolutely love to bring the kids here, they always have fun!! The outside activities in the summer are the best!
Zane Manley
Great place for kids to spend a couple hours exploring. There are daily shows every couple of hours, the day I was there they had stick insects out for people to see and touch. Miles of nature trails to walk.
ryan carr
Super fun place to bring kids. Tons of hands on exhibits on multiple floors plus a huge outside area. Been here 4 times and each time discover something new and exciting !
Keri Johnson
Absolutely loved it here! My 6 year old and twin 2 year olds loved everything about it, especially the hiking trail and the bubble exhibit! Went back again for my daughter's field trip and it was just as much fun the 2nd time around!
Eric Wahl
Had the fortunate experience of doing a "camp-in" here with the Cub Scouts. The program was amazing. We had several hours of fun doing chemistry, astronomy, "hot air balloons," and just exploring the museum. If your Pack is looking for an activity, this is a great destination.
Marie Marx
Nice museum, very family oriented. The outdoor exhibits were fun and we enjoyed at least one of the nature trails and wished we had more time to see the other trails. Worth the time to visit and would go back again.
Holly U
So happy to have this place close by! We visit regularly. We do miss the indoor exhibits, but they have done a phenomenal job giving everyone a safe and fun experience through the pandemic.
Hannah .Lamarre
This trip I just went in the store for shopping for stocking stuffers. No admission charge for shopping in the store. Large variety is small items. Great quality stuff.
Jj Whittemore
A treasure in the area! Our entire 6th grade class participated in the Montshire experience! This is becoming another one of our middle school traditions! Three years ago one of the very quiet students in my group burst forward to tell me with much enthusiasm and facial glee that this museum was heaven!
This year I was lucky enough to have an adventurous group that truly wanted to try everything and all were caught "reading" the information that accompanies the exhibits...w-h-a-t-? How great is that ? It was a rainy day so the outdoor exhibits were not as enticing, yet my whole group trekked a trail- yes getting wet feet, and totally feeling that it was worth it. And they tested out the water current and ping pong ball activity, loved the bubbles and fog areas inside and posed for pics at the various musical instrument stations- my joy!
Our school teacher-team had lined up a workshop for every student. Our group made and launched hot air balloons. We were so surprised to revisit "density" as we had explored a bit through our cooking/nutrition classes among others.
The gift shop choices this year were extensions of the museum and we took turns back at the classroom trying out some of the challenges. I could get choked up thinking about how this attraction touched these pre-teens...would you have thought?
The Montshire is about hands-on science AND making marvelous memories.
Liz Chalmers
Fantastic museum. Well worth the admission fee. Very informative, hands on and fun. We , as 6 adults, had such a great time and our 6 month old granddaughter was able to participate too.
Pamyla Hendricks
Great time for the whole family!
Alex Stepanyan
Visited it with 3 kids ages 7 through 13, all had a lot to do. In addition to indoor exhibits this museum has outdoor plaza with multiple attractions and trails on 100 acres wooded riverbank. Tons of programs that ran all day long, kids didn't want to leave at the end of the day.
Ashley Farris
This has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. Now I enjoy bringing my children. The bathrooms are always very clean here. The line always moves quickly when checking in and the staff is always excelent with the little ones.
Shayna Castello
There's always a new exhibit to see, and the older ones are classics that my children everytime have fun like it was there first. The staff was very helpful and polite. I also learn something new everytime and we always have a great time! Thank you!!
Ashley Knight
The montshire museum is always a fun filled scientific experience. We always have fun learning new things as well as brushing up on what we have already learned. There is always something to do from inside that's filled with four floors of activities. To everything that is out side surrounding the building. In the summer there is a fun water area to learn about but bring your water shoes and a change of clothes because it also acts as a fun little water park for the kids. The Montshire also offers its walking trails for fun wilderness learning. Definetly a fun place to check out. I recommend becoming a member!
Leon W.
This kids can't get enough of this place!
Joseph Sleeman II
That place was amazing, made a stop on the way home from vacation. My 2 boys (2 and 3 years old) had a lot of fun. Wished we lived closer to visit more often.
Joshua Neilson
Fan-freaking-tastic! So much to do! Huge variety of hands-on learning exhibits for kids of all ages. From code breaking to puzzles to insects to planetary science to music to physics, water play, nature hikes... holy cow! I can't list it all! Had too much fun playing to photo the stations. Lots of on site parking. A couple of sneaky turns as you approach the location, so be alert! or just turn around when you miss the turn ;) oh yeah! For your Pokémon Go kids, there are 3 gyms on site! If your kids can't have fun here, they might be potatoes.
Stacey Bradley
We had a great time with the exhibits and staff. Some of the other children (a couple of boys) were rude and obnoxious and started to try to get physical....BIG MISTAKE with Mama Bear close by!
Christopher E
Great place to bring kids. Bring swimsuits and a towel for the outside. They change exhibits often. Fun place
Voltron_420 Smokesalot
For a little science museum this place is ok. I'd say its recommended for ages 2-8. There are plenty of exhibits to engage your little scientist.
Avoid the gift shop as they have everything you can buy at your local Walmart for a third of the price.
This place is a good starter museum until you can get to the Boston museum of science.
Nathan
This is a small but incredibly well done museum. Almost everything is interactive with a great range of ages. Summer visitors can enjoy water based exhibits and more outside
MissRiva Gijanto
Great for all ages! It was a blast. Food here, clean bathrooms, many activities, trails to walk, wheel chair accessible and free parking lot. There's a gift shop inside at well and an elevator to all the floors and ramps outside. Food is served outside under a circus tent. Food was premade pizza, salads and subs. Not entirely sure if they sell food during the cold months though.
Fernando Iglesias
Great place to take the kids, though not necessarily the most fun for the grown ups. I recommend coming in the summer time to enjoy the outdoor water exhibits and the planetary walk.
Donald Murphy
Great educational museum for kids! My kids loved it! Spent over 4 hours there and still didnt see everything! Water area was great too, make sure to bring swim suits!
Nick Doolittle
We have been visiting almost weekly since moving here over a year ago, and our almost-four year old still hates leaving when we do. They do a good job rotating some of the exhibits (seasonally), and the architecture of the place really promotes exploration.
Carole Sheltra
Had an amazing day..my 2 grandkids had so much fun..staff was so sweet and kind..we will definitely be back
Mike Hippert
Awesome place for kids! lots of hands on activities, awesome water table / splash pad outside. kept my 3 kids entertained at ages 1 3 and 5 as well as parents and grandparents.
Shane Walton
Our 2 year old was entertained the whole time, even though the exhibits were a better fit for older kids. Good variety and wonderful to have in the region!
Pam O'Malley-Anderson
Wonderful hands on museum. Kids can touch almost everything and there are programs for kids and adults on the website. In the summer, there are trails in the woods to explore that are well marked and informational.
Patrick Spaulding
Such a nice place. Great hands on experience and the outdoor water area is so much fun. Got here at 12 and did not leave till 4. All of us had a great time.
Dan Coutu
Outstanding hands-on experiential science activities! Both indoor and outdoor activities that include trails, water fun, wildlife, conservation, soap bubbles, and much more. Perfect for kids of all ages.
Amy Shedrick
Fun family friendly place.
Brittney Moyer
I love bringing my kids here! There's so much to do and they have a new featured exhibit every month. My kids love it and always have a ton of fun.
Trisha Watson
Many visits here and the bubble section is still our favorite. It's also fun to climb the tower and check out the view. Lots of fun activities that never get old--like air flow with ping pong balls.
Curtis Gibbon
Local hidden gem. No longer appointment based, but masks are still required. Always plenty to explore even for still curious adults. A must see for locals and area visitors.
Oliver Salmon
Great place to explore and learn with little kids, lots of fun. I wish the area with tables was open more hours for a snack/lunch break, particularly when it is below freezing and we don't want to eat in the pretty outside garden area.
Sean Effel
Great activity for a couple of hours with your kids. They do hands on programs throughout the day, too. The leaf cutter ants are amazing.
Mitch Comstein
Three dinosaurs are hanging out on the beach, getting ready for lunch, when the stumble across a lamp.
They rub it, and a genie appears.
"I have three wishes, so I'll give one to each of you," the genie announces.
The first dinosaur thinks hard.
"Alright," he says, "I'll have a big, juicy, piece of meat."
Instantly, the biggest, juiciest piece of meat he'd ever seen appears in front of him.
Not to be outdone, the second dinosaur thinks even harder.
"I know! I'll have a shower of meat!"
Immediately, huge pieces of meat rain down around him.
The third dinosaur, certainly not to be outdone, thinks harder than the previous dinosaurs.
"I've got it!" he cries, "I want a MEATIER shower!"
Justin Spratt
This is a good clean science museum. Very friendly staff. My 18 month old son loved it, even though he was a bit young. 2+ would be perfect.
Chris Moore
Wonderful place for kids of all ages. Lots of exhibits to keep busy for hours and hours. There are nature walks and water features for kids to splash in on nice days.
V J
Good for promotion of science for kids. Lots of activities. Must visit in warmer weather to get full experience.
Gurdev Sethi
An excellent Upper Valley treasure, with lots of activities.
The water features are great in the summer and the exhibits are excellent.
The Museum does a great job at keeping the exhibits and facilities in top shape.
Rosie
Absolutely wonderful. Been to nearly every place science-related place in Connecticut and a few places north, Montshire is by far our favorite. Staff is wonderful, place is always clean, exhibits are absolutely top notch. Outside activities and trails just cannot be beat.
will archer
Not only did my kids had a blast at the Montshire, but they took covid precautions very seriously. When one of my kids had a meltdown we left in a rush and unfortunately left a jacket and some other personal items behind, but they reached out to us and held the items at the front desk for us until we could make it back.

Kids and adults are curious. There’s so much to explore here, with a relaxed vibe. The curators and instructors do a good job at Montshire will a range of fun stuff and science stuff and puzzling stuff and nature stuff. Find a less crowded time, be sure to go on the walks outside to get your body as well as your minds active, and bank on a good 3+ hours of hands-on #STEM time. Pack your snacks and chill on a bench while the kiddos explore. Get the annual membership, add to the community in the Upper Valley. #Vermont #NewHampshire #ConnecticutRiver #museum #science
