Reviews of Idaho State Museum
Raymond Ellis
I enjoyed my visit to the museum. This week's trip was my first visit to Idaho. The museum's extensive exhibits on the history of the state were impressive. There was also a lot of information on the current industries, parks, etc. that I found interesting, as well.
joe mack
It's an ok place to visit if you want to learn a little more of Idaho history. However, most of the museum is just facts typed up and post on the walls, not very many physical artifacts that would find at other museums. The price is also kinda steep and lack of parking make this museum something I visited at of pure boredom. However, it does offer some cool things to do for children so If you have kids it might be a perfect place for you to visit

The Idaho State Museum was completely rebuilt 3 years ago and is filled with modern, informative displays about the geology, people and history of the state. There's plenty of free parking. It's well worth a visit.
Susan Bissonnette
So glad we visited. The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. There was so much to see and learn about Idaho. You can tell that there was a lot of thought put into the interactive displays. Very well spread out so you didn't feel crammed. Had a great time overall.
Boise City Tours
If you haven’t been to the Idaho State Museum in awhile … it’s time to go again. The current exhibit titled Trailblazing Women of Idaho is a must see. You could be rubbing shoulders with some of Idaho’s most effective and visionary women and not even know it! We’ll be directing all of our Boise City Tours participants to this exhibit all year!
Patricia Wilson
Very nice interactive museum. My husband loves reading everything. I usually am done way before him. But because this was interactive we actually were done at the same time. Grat fun. Reasonable prices.
Alyssa Cooper
The Idaho State Museum did not disappoint! It has an excellent curated collection of artifacts and replicas. It combines art, technology, sound effects, and visuals to tell the history of the Gem State. The Big Burn exhibit was especially impressive. Kids will love the interactive presentation, which even incorporates artificial wind. Native Americans and women are well-represented. My favorite was the fashion exhibit. There really is something for everyone!
Due to COVID, some parts of the museum are not accessible, but there’s plenty to see and read about in the open portions. Staff was disinfecting exhibits, extra precautions are being made to ensure the safety of guests, and everything appeared to be very clean.
Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. My only complaint is that they do not offer a teacher discount. Bottom line: highly recommend. 😊
Melanie Carlson
This place was a lot bigger than I thought it was! A lot of great and interactive information. We were there while they had the art deco exhibit and I LOVED IT. Definitely recommend coming here
Christyna Green
Really enjoyed our visit. Was my first time there and was glad to finally get the opportunity to go. It's very friendly for the adults and kids. Lots of fun interactive displays to play with even as an adult it's still fun to play with history. They had displays of Idaho's history from the beginning to modern day. Glad I went with my friend.
dumb pup (dumbpupvt)
It was a wonderful experience and very informational. I'm not from Idaho original so I know very little about the history so I found everything very fun and inviting way to learn about Idaho. Definitely will go again.
Kristin L.
I enjoyed this more than I expected to, as someone that's lived in Idaho a long time so I'm familiar with what Idaho has to offer. The displays and interactive materials were put together INCREDIBLY well and made for a very fun, long visit.
Serenety Moon
The museum is 3 floors and very well worth to see it All! If you have anyone with a disability has honor citizen bus pass. They only pay $3 per person. I love the interactive and so much great information.
Heidi G
Such a fantastic place to come! It's been so cold this winter and the whole family enjoyed it!
Trina Michaelis
Awesome displays. Many interactive for younger folks. So interesting. Will visit again. Highly recommend it.
Thomas Griffiths
Open house admission was free. There are historical society annual memberships available which entile members free admission for one year. Lots of exhibits of Idaho history including native American histories, geological history, etc.
Sheila Latta
A great example of a state prison. A very informative tour laid out with videos and interpretive signs. You can walk all around this prison from the general population halls, Siberia, the isolation cells to the hanging room. It is very sobering as you peak into the past. There are some beautifully tended gardens on the grounds as well as a building that is just weaponry from the past. There are interactive features of your tour to enjoy as well.
Victoria Napolitano
Idaho State Museum has cataloged and captured the real lives of American heros. I was impressed by all the amazingly strong women from the past. It's humbling to know the trials and tribulations they endured and still fought for the rights of other women and men. Take time to read the books and lecture presented during your visit, its truly imspirarional. I do not want to forget about the staff. Everyone I met was impressively friendly and helpful. Thank you.
Dale McCord
Very nice museum and reasonable entry cost $8 for seniors or veterans. Very nice displays and interactive displays.
Laurinda O'Dell
In 1.5 hours, I learned more about the state in which I live than I have in the 22 years I have lived here! (Sad, yes?)
Interactive and excellently displayed presentations!
Can't wait to bring my kids and grands!
Check it out for free the First Thurday of each month from 5 PM to 7 PM! TOTALLY worth the usual $10 entry per adult, though. Less for kiddies. JUST GO!!
Justin Whalen
I had the great opportunity to receive a guided tour and learn about the rich history of Idaho.
Diego Hilleary
The museum seems like it would be small on the outside, but it seems huge on the inside. There's three floors full of stuff! I didn't have enough time in an hour to see it all, so I'll have to come back. So far, my favorite stuff was the story of the Indigenous people in the basement area, especially about the Kootenai chief who shut down a highway. Too cool!
Timothy Lillie
I've been here before over the years. The first time was before the renovation of the building. This is a sort of potpourri of Idaho history and, as such, is fun to visit. I did, in this case, with grandchildren who (being yet below reading age, just three years old) enjoyed the video of the Big Burn of 1911 that commemorated that forest fire. In fact, they wanted to see it twice.
Nice spot for a visit even if you don't have kids along and just want to brush up on Idaho history.
Rebekah F Online Teaching
This is such a fun museum for kids. It is hands on. It is like a children's museum and history museum put together. We have been to a ton of museums lately and this has been the most kid friendly one we have been to.
Carina Krippner
Newest museum I've ever visited! Total immersion hands-on...great for ALL ages.
Stayed for 3 hours and could have stayed longer!
Sandi Young
Took my daughter and her friend to explore this museum. It's self guided, full of Idaho history and easy to maneuver and enjoy. Parking can be challenging and is time limited so you may have to move your vehicle if you spend more than 2 hours here. Admission price is reasonable and offers free admission during first Thursday of every month, from 5-7pm. It's recently remodeled and it shows with lots of natural light, open spaces, interactive and hands on exhibits. The museum is divided into 7 - 8 different areas. Each area covers alot of information without being too overwhelming. Origins was my favorite area to explore as it covers the 5 federally recognized tribes of Idaho. How the Indians help shape the Gem state. Idaho history is also covered in 3 different areas that include; Lakes and Forests (North Idaho), Mountains and Rivers (Central Idaho) and Deserts and Canyons (South Idaho). Two changing exhibits rooms offer changing exhibitions thoughout the year. On our visit the exhibit was the Japanese Inturment Camp and it's ties to Idaho. A very moving and emotional display. The Idaho Room which features local Boise history. Boomtown is for kids and is a hands on experience and very interactive. History Lab and Stories from Idaho are also worth browsing through. Plan to spend at least two hours here if not more. The gift shop is also worth a look as they carry a lot of unique, local and hand made items from Idaho.
Markus LC
Nice little museum. Your can see everything in 60-90min.
David Berkowitz
This is a fantastic taste of Idaho for adults and kids. It’s a thoughtful museum that is worth a stop but small enough that you don’t need more than an hour or two. Well worth a visit.
Janaye Hanaoka
Very much enjoyed this interactive museum! Great for kids and families, very informative.
Jillian Fletcher
Great for kids and families! We brought out 10, 7 and 5 year old. There are quizzes that my oldest liked a lot. The younger ones really enjoyed Geronimo the Beaver and the sockeye salmon story. I enjoyed the firefighter photo exhibit, and the Native American stories.
Travis Fletcher
Outstanding experience for our family (kids are 10, 7, and 5.). Great mixture of interactive and immersive exhibits. As non-locals, we loved the deep dive into Idaho lore. Great value.
Julia Dybdal
Very informative. It really exceeded my expectations as far as a state museum. And the lady at guest services was very kind and helpful.
Melissa Robin
Such a wonderful place to go and learn about Idaho! We did go on a first Thursday so is very packed but it was very enjoyable to see all the new stuff that was added because of the recent remodel! It was nice to have interactive viewings to participate in an even informative videos to watch you can for sure bring your kids here! Are you in if you're an adult it's fun to learn.
marilyn masaitis
Great museum. Many exhibits. I expected more of a presentation on their potato industry. The maze like layout of the museum was confusing.
Jeremy Henderson
My boys and I had a great time at the Idaho state museum. We made some great memories. It was historic!
Sally J Hanson
There is a great history of Idaho with pictures and donated artifacts. The area is neatly organized. I encourage people to relax and take your time to absorb everything. Most people will say plan on spending at least two to three hours just to see a portion of the history. Books and other items are available at the entrance to purchase. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Jenn
Not awful but, not great. I guess I expected more. The use of space is terrible. Lots of winding pathways built of plywood that comes out from the walls feeling tight and dark with empty with shadowy recesses. Lots of reading compared to displays. Never figured out the huge wall with the screen and the smaller screens below. I recall the museum before having more on the Chinese and Native Americans. I know there were more Native American artifacts. The area for children is very dark and clunky. Not impressed, won’t go back.
Dianne Smith
Great museum! Very interactive and fun. Also has a great gift shop!
Amy Storms
So much to see... very clean and well done. A little unnerving to see it so focused on the Sun Valley area and famous people contributions. Fun and interactive, glad the 2 headed calf is still there.
Nunya Biz
Absolutely love the remodel. Took my nephew here and I couldn't keep up with him. Everything caught his eye. Very interactive.
Garrett Sanchez
A greatly expanded experience! Learned plenty of new information and could have spent hours more in this place. There is a kids section and a gift shop.
Leilani Leng “Leng” de Vera
Very interesting..we liked how concise the facts were presented.
Keith Hilliard (GummyBerryJoos)
This is museum is very cool. There are so many hands on exhibits for kids! The forest fire exhibit is worth the entry fee alone. Great place to take bored kids when it's hot out.
Courtney Steele
One of the most hands-on, child friendly museums we've ever been to. I'm surprised how many people still haven't been there! Give it a try!
E K
The Idaho State Museum is one of Idaho's gems. I've gone there now three times and each time learn something new. But my favorite exhibit is the Big Burn exhibit. That inspired me to learn more about Idaho's fire history and fire surpression policy in the state. You must take visitors to this. It's a learning experience.
S G
What a wonderful museum. I love museums and recently visited the Idaho State Museum for the first time and left far from disappointed. There was great information and they have done an excellent job making exhibits interactive. I also LOVED that they provided laminated maps instead of passing out paper maps. Little steps like this go a long way when it comes to sustainability--way to go Idaho State Museum!
Jason Hopson
My daughter and I had a fantastic time! She is 6 years old and was captivated with the exhibits.
James Pierzina
Plenty to interact with. Very immersive experience.
Interested in coming back with my son at another time.
Susan Friedman
What a fun, interactive, & informative museum about the history of Idaho! A perfect place to visit on a hot day!
Brittany Webb
A fantastic museum with impressive exhibits and a huge face for children to experience history in addition to the adult exhibits.
Krysil “Krysil”
Had a great time with my grand children at the museum. 10/10 stars would recommend.
Heidi Gibby
This was a very informative, enjoyable museum to visit! Its focus seems to be on Idaho's history, geography, and stories. It's an interactive experience no matter the age. It does take a while to get through if you want to see it all in depth. They give you a map, but it's still a bit confusing. Because the focus is so much on interactive technology, it doesn't necessarily have as many artifacts as you might expect in a museum, although it does have some, of course. It seems to want to help you feel connected to Idaho and its history.
tonya Hockett
Way bigger than I imagined! So much to see. I appreciated the frank narrative about the natives and missionaries. The area celebrating women that changed our history was very informative. I had never seen an Olympic metal before. My daughters favorite part was the video about the beaver geronimo! The wildfire exhibit was amazing! I would get a membership if I was local.
Jessica Estrada
Very fun! There was a lot of interactive activity to do with the whole family. It had a lit of information condensed into interesting subtext. If you ever in town, I highly recommend it.
Amelia M.
I visited the Idaho State Museum as a chaperone for my daughter's 4th grade classroom field trip. The children had a great time while learning Idaho history!
Jill Smith
Great interactive museum to learn about Idaho History.
Joylyn Twitchell
I took my kids and we all really enjoyed looking and learning about our state. I was impressed with how much was there and with how many interactive things they had for all ages.
T B
What a wonderful experience! I used to spend my weekends here as a child and seeing the enhancements as an adult was a treat. Everything you ever wanted to know about Idaho can be found here.
Ashley Orehek-Rossi
Definitely plan to spend a few hours here. There is a lot to learn about the history and culture of Idaho. Great exhibits!!
Mitchell Oliver
Wonderful Women of Idaho exhibit that shows women of diverse cultural backgrounds. A lot of interactive things to do throughout the museum, especially on the bottom floor. Different parts of history are represented here. Cute gift shop.
David Roberts
This is a one of the best medium-sized museums I've ever been in! The building and exhibits are recently built and in great condition. You can tell a lot of money, thought and effort were put into making them.
There are a lot of good interactive exhibits that kids will enjoy, including a basement area with a mock mine and locomotive that smaller kids will enjoy, along with and exploration area that should interest older elementary and middle school kids. Many of the exhibits in the main area will also appeal to this age group while still being interesting to adults.
The first section on the main floor speaks briefly about the geologic origins and natural history of Idaho.
Another section there introduces the first human settlers and the five Native American tribes who were here when Europeans first arrived. On the way to the upper level (kind of a mezzanine), there is a section about transportation.
The main level has sections for the main regions of Idaho: lakes and forests in the north, rivers and mountains in the center, and deserts and canyons in the south.
Lakes and Forests has exhibits about mining and forestry, including an intense video presentation about the terrible first fire in 1910. It also has exhibits about the missionaries who were the first non-native Americans to permanently live here.
Rivers and Mountains focuses a lot on the history of outdoor recreation in Idaho, especially skiing and fishing, along with the struggles of the first homesteaders in this section of the state.
Desert and Canyons focuses on the Oregon trail pioneers who passed through this area, irrigation and agriculture, and idaho's largest cities, which developed in this area. One exhibit lets you tour those cities while pedaling a stationary bicycle.
A large exhibit on the lower level explores the lives and experiences of ordinary people over the years. I found this to be especially interesting and wish I wasn't already tired and pressed for time after seeing all the upper level stuff.
While the museum doesn't gloss over negative events, like the tragic experiences of the native Americans in their encounters with white settlers, it also doesn't carry the overall negative tone of the"woke" historical narratives one hears so much these days. The museum doesn't fail to celebrate the struggles and successes of the settlers as they built Idaho into the great state it is today.
While the exhibits give justice to the wide diversity of people who have lived and worked in this state, it doesn't get all preachy about it. Lord knows we hear enough sermons these days.
We didn't visit the Pioneer Village area outside the museum. It is only open from May to September.
Allow at least a couple of hours for your visit. If you are like me and like to read every caption on every display, you should probably add a couple more.
We visited during the Covid pandemic, and the museum was opened, though the special exhibit rooms were closed. Face masks were required and entry was limited, but on a Tuesday afternoon, it was almost empty anyway. I suspect in normal times, weekdays would find would find the museum busy with school kids on field trips, so now might be a good time to come if you prefer to have the place almost to yourself.
John Smith
Very well done little museum displaying lots of Idaho history. Everything was clean and working no problems with any of the displays. There was a whole playground area with lots of fun activities for kids to keep them interested. The display/movie for the big burn was impressive. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Overall I actually learned a lot despite being a local my whole life. I also really appreciated the respect that was shown to our Native American people in these works.
Kari Dickerson
I did not grow up with this museum as a kid, though I visited it a few times before the remodel...but, wow, they have done an amazing job! It is so engaging, interactive, informative...makes me wish they had more space so they could go deeper in some topic but as it is there is so much to see, do and learn about Idaho here! Expect to spend up to 5 hours to really see it all.
Renee Kline
The original Idaho Museum was basic and informative, but now with the remodel and new look, it is interactive and state of the art awesome. My family and I have been through three times since it reopened and we continue to learn more and more about our state history. It is fun and great for all ages.
Rebecca Zimmer
Wow!!! Seriously the remodel was worthy! Great exhibits. Fun layout. Extremely interactive! As an Idahoan I even learned a ton about Idaho! Our little was intrigued and loved it! Must go!!!
mary foregger
we went to see the Women in Idaho exhibit. It was an afternoon well spent. So many impressive firsts for women —- Women who met and exceeded AND surprised the old patriarchs frozen in their ways.
Irene “MacMydree” Ellis
Love 💖 this place! Because I read everything can't really be done justice in one trip.
Sophie 67
I love the Idaho State Museum and need to go back soon. Lots of very interesting interactive displays and artifacts regarding the history of Idaho. There was so much that I did not know about Idaho before moving here They also hold a lot of fun events (pre-Covid). We went one Valentine's Day and watched Casablanca on the big screen. It was a catered event and the food was delicious. I hope that at some point in the future we can go back to normal and have fun events like that again.
Candyce Reynolds
Very well done museum. Informative exhibits. Great for all ages.
kaylee sweet
Nice museum with great interactive learning. However, there was very little First People history. The museum really seemed to be white washed, focusing more on the history of the state from the Oregon Trail onward.
Lily Brandsma
It looks so amazing now that they finally finished renovating it. There are several interactive displays, and you could totally bring small kids here without them getting bored. They have a room with stories from people who lived in Idaho in the past, and was really cool to read them all. There is something for everyone to enjoy.
Lyubov Belobrovchuk
I highly recommend to visit this place especially if you have kids. It was fun.
Amber Hawton-Hill
The remodeled museum is an absolute masterpiece! It is highly interactive and built in rooms that make it easy to manage groups of children. I went with a group of 4th graders and they were entertained for 2 hours. I felt proudly that it greatly represents our amazing state. It will easily impress visitors and locals. A must see!
Steve Holland
It was a nice place to go and see the history of Idaho. They have a lot of interactive displays and exhibits that keep you entertained and help you enjoy the experience. A little corny at times but all in all a good time.
James K
What a wonderful gift we have in this museum! We came here with little expectations and we left here planning our next visit. Our party ranged from 9 years old to 65, and everyone enjoyed the time exploring the museum. There are a lot of interactive exhibits to really drive the history of our great state. Take the time to check it out!
Andrew Moore
It was a fun place for our whole family. There was a decent amount to see and do and our young kids were fairly well entertained the whole time. There were kids educational play areas which worked well for us and still deeper content for adults. There is a good mix of digital presentations and traditional displays.
Jerome Frazer
Such a fun museum. I visit Boise a few times a year and it was great to finally visit after the renovation. Top fun for the whole family and so much about Idaho to learn. Completely wheelchair accessible which is great. The small art gallery was a highlight for me.
Adam Tardiff
I really enjoyed the remodel. I can see that it's geared towards all audiences. When I asked if there were more exhibits coming about Native Americans and Idaho I was told there was a small section and boy was it small. The old Museum had a lot more artifacts from the Native Americans of Idaho and I felt like we weren't truly representing who was here first and their history. All in all good job on the remodel.
Karuss Ferchau
Loved it and so did my 3 and 5 year old. They enjoyed the whole museum. Very organized and awesome for the small space. Just be aware it is tight in the exhibits so plan accordingly. We ditched our stroller half way through.
Renetta Cleb
Idaho State Museum shows the history of Idaho in pictures, arts, and exhibits. I'm impressed by how they preserve the records of the past to let the young people see today what happened ages ago. There are also interactive rooms that keep us involved and enjoy our visit to the museum. I don't think I was able to see everything but I would like to go back another day to check everything.
Jeremy Miller
Engaging and fun exhibits. You'll learn about the history region from perspectives that you never considered. My recent visit was brief and incomplete but my understanding and appreciation for Idaho history was profoundly deepened.
Ted Ross
High quality museum and staff! I was greeted by Alyson (with a Y, she said), she was super welcoming and kind, she stood up to greet us. She engaged with my kids making sure they felt important. As a leader in customer service for over 15 years, I recognize good service. Alyson has it.
This museum is excellent! My kids loved the interaction aspect of the place. TownBoom was so fun! My kids loved the dynamics of the train. Will visit again.
Richard Smith
Spent 2-1/2 hours and still did not see everything in the newly remodeled museum. Numerous interactive displays as well as the more traditional exhibits. Lots to see here if you take time. Nice gift shop with the usual t shirts etc and a few more unusual item as well. Great place to take the family for an afternoon outing. Highly recommend.
Shawn Alger-Keough
The update on the Idaho State Museum is remarkable! The new exhibits are wonderful, informative and participatory. The refurbished artifacts really shine. Boise is a long way from many parts of our great state but I highly recommend making the trip to spend a day - or two - there. It will be well worth the effort! Best Wishes and much success to all who worked on this achievement! ~ from State Senator Shawn Keough
SusanB
Much more interactive than in the past...love the new space.
Wesley Cole
Super fun experience. The kids all loved it. Wish we could have stayed longer. Also wish they had a family day pass because the admission can start to add up if you have a lot of kids.
Rebecca Freeman
This is a surprisingly high quality museum! Really interesting exhibits with lots of interactive and modern displays. There is an entire floor that is geared towards children, and is an excellent place to let them play a while if the adult exhibits get too boring for them. I am extremely pleased with thos facility.
Theresa Melroy
I visited the newly reopened Idaho State Historical Museum last week and it is WONDERFUL! The museum is very well organized. The exhibits are engaging and informative, and many are interactive! Overall, my experience in the museum was great and I highly recommend it to all!
Sarah Carrico
I visited for the first time in twenty years, with my grandma. An hour and a half wasn't even enough to properly take in everything. I'm so pleased with and impressed by the exhibits, interactive elements, and flow of it all. The staff was so eager and kind. The two headed calf is a treasure hunt to find, but our security guard (3 minutes to close) was delighted to show us to it/them, and a quick penny press later, we have already planned another trip back. Good job, historical society.
Ashley Rogers
So much information, I suggest going for a good 5 hours to appreciate everything they have there 💚 I missed out on 1 large room and I was there a good 3.5 hours trying to read as much as possible. They include a lot of different topics and one room changes periodically. There are MANY hands on interactive things to do for children or people like me who love touching things 🤣
Linda Hall (Fairywild)
Totally different from what they had before. The remodel is nice. There three floors of more than enough to keep you busy and kids love all the new interactive things. Some of the cool stuff they used to have has been reduced down from a whole exhibit to a few pieces. For example they had what looked like a full size Chinese apothecary in the old one but only a few select items now. If your wondering the two headed calf is still there.
Skip Critell
Modern take on history. Lots of displays with small quanity of artifacts.
Rachel Davidson
Amazing remodel. Really interactive museum. Our favorite part was learning about the Big Burn and the mining area in Boomtown where kids can 'blow up dynamite', collect the ore and push the cart to place the ore on the conveyor belt. Kids 5 and under are free. Great place to check out this summer.
Vicki Henderson
Lots of fun. Lots of exhibits. We took the grandkids- ages 5 and 7. We basically had to drag them away. They enjoyed all the interactive exhibits, so much to see!
A must see in Boise.
David Tilley
They've done a great upgrade. Nicely done exhibits, in including the only natives of Idaho. Take time to watch the Native American stories in the theater. I only have one question. What did you do with the 2 headed calf?
Sam Finnell
Absolutely gorgeous! The new renovations really made it interactive and they were able to finally display all of their historical artifacts! Just wonderful and a true embodiment of Idaho
It's pointless to argue
I've been an Idaho Nyan all my life. I've had contact with the Idaho State Museum throughout most of it. I love the new look, the new exhibits, and pretty much everything else that they did. I definitely recommend it for its new content.
Lucky Johnston
The museum remodel and expansion is done. Very well done interactive and done right takes more than one visit to see right at least 2 times. Enjoy Idsho.
Kathryn Shapero
They have a very interesting selection of exhibits and one of my personal favorites is the theater in which you can watch Native American stories come to life. There is an art gallery that has rotating art exhibit and I am very excited to see what gets put in as the years go by.
Carol Mulder
Loved the interactive exhibits, great history, and so glad they still have the 2 headed calf!!!! Love being an Idaho native and experiencing our history!!+
nicole greenhouse
Fantastic museum of Idaho!! Highly recommend. Interactive exhibits that are great for kids and adults!
sandy clark
Great family place. If you want to visit the village out in the back, call first. They have select hours
Greg B
The museum is very well organized. Enjoyed it very much.
Paige Somoza
This is such a great place! I love all the improvements they have made. I especially enjoyed the vintage Oregon Trail game that you can play while learning about pioneers.
Mark Pemble
Everyone living in Idaho must visit at least once.
Jinks Hunter
What a huge disappointment the newly revamped museum is for those who love seeing the actual items that form our history and make Idaho what it is. We can get a virtual experience anywhere. The point of history is that it was real! Real people. Real challenges. Real tools and artifacts!
Kevin Glynn
Visited with my wife and daughter. We all enjoyed it. A lot of information on many subjects including history, geology, industry, and politics. My daughter loved the many interactive displays.
Charlie Burry
Idaho's most historic site with tour guides if you desire it's old Sandstone walls have stories to tell
Jessica Dougherty
The new museum is beautiful. My only critique is that I wish they covered more prehistory of Idaho. Worth visiting if you love Idaho like I do!
Chimena Cole
They have done a fantastic job with the renovation of the museum! It's very interactive great for adults and children!
Isaac Chapman
It talked a lot about the history of Idaho. The museum was pretty cool I would advise you check it out.
Jared Larkin
There's a lot of interesting stuff to see here. It was quite informative and I learned a lot about the state of Idaho and the history around it.
Patty Orr
The layout of the Idaho State Museum is great. I especially loved Paul Revere and the Raiders memorabilia!
Audi N Sade
Our visit as a family was during an event. We were plesantly surprised to learn so much history in a fun and interactive manner. If it wasnt for the event we wouldnt have thought to visit. So glad to have had the opportunity. Approriate for all ages.
Laura Barton
Gorgeous, expertly curated. It provides a wonderful, multi-faceted perspective of Idaho.
Lisa Campbell
The museum is amazing! I love all of the interactive features. Great for all ages. I spent about 3 hours there, but I could have stayed all day!
Christie Carroll
We stopped by this museum on a Sunday after visiting Zoo Boise as it was nearby, but we found out it was closed on Sundays. It was also closed the next day, as it was a Columbus Day. Tuesday we were flying home but got there right as it opened on our way to the airport. Another problem we had as we were leaving we wanted to tour the pioneer cabin area but it was still locked because the key wouldn't work and they requested a new lock be installed which the staff thought would be done later in the afternoon. That was frustrating since we were unable to return.

(Translation) A small but very interactive museum of the state of Idaho. We found data that is surprising but the best is the statue of the indigenous Soshonne who guided Lewis and Clsrk the explorers on their journey through the upper west of the United States.
It is what we can say a modern museum with close information.
Features several video classrooms on mining, tourist hotspots, and memorable fires.
