I’ve always drove past it , this time it was such a great idea to actually stop and enjoy the views!!! This is a great place for a great walk- to take in the views as well.
Johanna Huber
Great historical site. Got to go up in the bell tower. They need a rubber stamp for visitors to stamp their natl park & historical sites passport books.
Carra McClure
I was ever so lucky to visit this amazing depot with so much history! My friends had their reception here and we had this beautiful place all to ourselves!
Kan Fu
Large place for a leisure walk. Some old railway exhibits representing the old times worth taking a look. You can also walk along the historical railways for a distance.
Timo Kötter

One of Boise's Best Kept secrets. awesome place to take your family for a quick tour
Nadine Kiyonaga
We took a free short tour on a Sunday with Eric. He was fantastic! Dressed in a conductor uniform and all! He provided lots of information about the depot and its history. It wasn't a very long tour and grateful that our group was just my family and another 2 people so we really got a personalized tour. The depot is beautiful and utilized as a party venue, which I think would be spectacular at night all lit up. The gardens are beautiful and there's a perfect photo shot of downtown Boise straight to the Capital. If you're visiting from out of town, it's just a quick stop and I think it's a must.
Tyler Shute
Beautiful spot, and gorgeous in the morning. Lots of fond memories here… wont forget any time soon.
Ed Price
Great venue for parties and it is actually a historic train station. Union Pacific trains used to stop here, on their journey on the Overland Route from Omaha to Portland. There is also an old UP steam engine static display here. Highly recommended!
Elena Soto
Nice peaceful quiet park with beautiful flower gardens. The depot hosts events such as weddings mostly and high school proms. Great place for solo photo shoots or family photos.

After walking the grounds many times (absolutely beautiful btw) We did the monthly guided tour….OMG this is the icing on the cake, this adds such a huge component to this wonderful building…learning the history gives you a much bigger appreciation to this Boise landmark! A must do!
Katy Kithcart (Katy Kithcart Creative)
The Boise Train Depot is a classic spot for a family outing or photography sessions! I’ve photographed a few different sessions here, from weddings to seniors. The Depot is beautiful year round, especially with the view of downtown Boise! It’s particularly pretty if you go in Spring or Fall with all of the flowers and plants around. If you’re looking for an intimate, classy wedding venue, I’d definitely recommend the Depot! I’ve photographed multiple weddings here and each one is able to transform the space into something unique. The staff always seems on top of things and there’s a cute bridal suite for the people to get ready in! Plus, they usually allow you to go up in the bell tower!
Sarah Holmes
One of the most beautiful places I like to visit! Great for pictures and just to relax. Inside the depot is absolutely magical and there is nothing about this amazing place that I don't love! 😊 …
Ben L
Well worth the trip. Tons of history here to explore. Make sure to take the guided trip up to the top of the bell tower. It doesnt cost anything but it is escorted. Views of Capitol Avenue and the Capital building are great. The depot itself is very clean and well taken care of. The grounds around are very nice too.
Schonie Lee
One of my favorite places in Boise! The depot itself is gorgeous, be sure to take the elevator up the tower and see the bell and beautiful views of the city and grounds. Koi ponds, grass areas to relax and picnic, and of course the locomotive!

The depot is an integral part of Boise that has withstood the test of time🌹 It is as much a part of Boise as the cross at Tablerock, Camelsback park, the MK Nature Center, the Greenbelt, Lucky Peak & Barber Park, the Capitol Bldg, the Night Light Parade, Art in the Park, the Stagecoach, the Ranch Club, Freak Alley, and all the other places that make Boise home❤
Dennis Weiler
A lot of history. Very nice beamed ceiling with original paint found under the coal dust. View from the bell tower is spectacular!

Way more interesting than I thought it would be! Beautiful architecture and wonderfully preserved. The Tour Guide on duty was very knowledgeable and our conversation with him was a real highlight to our visit. When we visited the Capitol later , standing at the top of the steps you can see it straight down the street and remembering what we had learned about the significant role it played in the cities growth was really nice. Thank you!
Athena Gappmayer

Great place to visit, especially on days where the museum is open. There's plenty of shade and varied scenery and feel throughout the year. One of the local go to places to get professional photos for any occasion. Also doubles as an event venue. One museum days, it's great to learn about the history and to bring the kids.

Christie Carroll
If you live in Boise or even visited, you cannot miss going to this cool landmark! Not only you get to enjoy the overlooking downtown but the entire place is just great! The pond, the railroad track, the train. If you come here during Spring, they have wonderful array of flower displayed (This year though, I don't see any which was weird) No wonder people are flocking & do their weddings & photos here, such a beautiful scenery! If you haven't done a tour inside the building, I suggest you should! Great to know the history & the cool stuff that they kept & preserved. Also go climb the tower & maybe ring the bell? I'm not sure if I did try to ring it or somebody did lol. I definitely want to do another tour inside!
Jerimiah Campbell
Great place to go for a piece of Boise history. Beautiful park to get pictures of or views of downtown. The depot hosts different interesting events during the year that are cool to check out. If that's not enough and Pokemon Go is your jam there are a lot of stops and a gym.
Leif Odegard
My company recently hosted a holiday party here and we had a great time. There was a guide who gave us a fantastic tour of the historic bell tower, as well as providing tons of very fascinating information about the history of the building and the area. I can highly recommend visiting at least once and getting a tour!
colter johnson
Fun place to visit. Lots to see. Both the gardens outside and the building are fun for the whole family to explore. The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. If you can check out the bell tower. The view is great. Whether visiting or Boise or living here everyone should visit the Boise Depot.
Riley Larkin
Seriously, I've lived in Boise for 7 years, and I still go to the Train Depot just about once a month. It's gorgeous at night, it's gorgeous in the day, it is gorgeous in all the seasons, and it offers one of my favorite views of Boise there is. Great for dates, pictures, picnics, or just to wander and experience a quiet moment. One of the best places in Idaho.
Kristin Sturtevant
Nice place to have a memorial. Married outside 28 years ago
Jose RV
If you’re looking for an amazing few of the foothills and downtown Boise this is your place to go. If you’re looking for a pretty place to take pictures at wether it’s for a wedding, prom, quince, any special occasion this is your place to go! Very clean area and easy to get to. They have free tours too on certain days.
Christine Bergseng
Great views and atmosphere! So cool, old movie set feel.
Gwenn
This beautiful old Depot has been around since before I can remember.. (and that's quite a bit of time!) To just sit and watch the Capitol Blvd traffic or just simply be there.. what a beautiful sight of our Boise hills and downtown scenery. The Depot alone is actually a calming place to be.. Just so long as you're respectful of other's desire to be there as well. 💞
*Please note: This is solely and entirely based upon my point of view and/or opinion. I therefore hold no liability for the assumption of other's who may take this review into consideration.
Patti
Beautifully restored. The grounds are well kept, and there are huge koi in the pond. They will take you up into the bell tower, where the view of the Capitol building and downtown is magnificent!
Michele McDermid
Boise Depot is beautifully restored and has historic displays from the era of early train travel. My great grandfather was a conductor with Union Pacific based out of Boise Depot. It is wonderful to share that history with my children, his great, great grandchildren.
Ride the elevator to the top of the Bell tower for a panoramic view of Boise.
Tasnim Ara Islam Mou
Boise Depot (8.7 acres) is the former train station in the western United States, opened in 1925, at an elevation of 2,757 feet above sea level.
You can see the stunning city skyline and foothills from the Depot patio. The bell tower is 96 feet tall and can be seen throughout the city at night.
The great hall of the Boise Depot is a 3,542 square foot multi-story atrium. It has six arched entrances. Big Mike (Engine No. 2295), a Mikado-type steam locomotive, built-in 1920, is placed on the east side of the Boise Depot which is one of the main attractions here.
The Boise Depot has a garden with a winding walkway, benches, a pond, a monument of volcanic rock, and planter beds with seasonal flowers that were designed by Spanish landscape architect Ricardo Espino. The pond has different types of large fishes swimming in the pond.
It is the best place for picnic and taking photos. I used to go there during my evening walk and I always felt refreshed visiting there. I love this place. I definitely recommend it if you are visiting Boise.
Steve Empey (Stmpy)
I am a train enthusiast so my opinion may be slanted some. The Depot is a historical place. It is a great place to visit and to be for picnics, and can be booked for special events. The view of Boise is awesome, the grounds are landscaped, and a good place for pictures. I enjoy the nostalgia that is preserved in it, and the Big Mike locomotive on display (UP X2295).
Elijah Lewis
the views are amazing but you aren't allowed to go in without a pricy reservation
Travis
The family and I chose this spot for group pictures. There are multiple different spots right out front for a great memory, there are little ponds with fish great looking bridges. We took a few by this rock setup with a small waterfall it looked amazing.
Lisa Richards
History of Old Town Boise! Read the interesting plaque near the garden. It explains the master plan of the city and how the depot and the capital building are on opposite ends of the boulevard. I was there when the depot itself wasn't open so I can't comment on the interior. The exterior was cool though and being from California I was surprised to see Spanish style architecture!
Laura Newman
If you are there for a private event, there is an elevator operator there and you can go up into the bell tower. It's a beautiful view of the city and you'll also learn some historical tidbits about Boise and the Depot. Also, the venue itself is beautiful.
Maurie Denner
Very interesting history. Built in early 20th century. Closed in 1999 and turned into a meeting spot. Tours available on 1st Sunday of the month. Interesting Spanish style architecture. Mission Style exterior with elaborate exposed beams inside.
Taylor Colson
Amazing place to visit during public hours on Sunday. Lots of history.
Al Steiner
Beautiful train, depot, and clock tower. The steam train is beautiful and big and great for pictures. The inside of the depot has nice original benches and lights, and original bells (4 of them) in the clock tower. Good place for photo ops
Mathew Ketchum
Great place to visit and get a good view of the city.
Katy Kahla
This was a great place to have my wedding! Love the architecture and it really shows off how amazing Boise is. I think the only downside is that you cannot close the park on the other side. We had no idea that our wedding day was also a local high school's homecoming. Because of this, we had swarms of people in all of our ceremony pictures. Plus, we had to push them off the vantage points to take photos. We even closed the road down, but this didn't stop people from driving through.
Nolan Wright
The Boise Depot is a beautiful historic building. It has great views of the city, the mountains, and looks right down upon the Capital Building. The inside is open to the public only on Sundays and Mondays, but it's available for weddings, business meetings, and parties.
Callie Meyet
Always a great place for photos. Surprised that there was parking and enough privacy to get family photos without someone goofing around in the background. Didn't go into the depot today since it was closed but I've always enjoyed the history and events there.
syko_ stacey
👍👍👍👍👍My family and I live close to the Train Depot, so we go there often.
👍👍👍👍👍It's a beautiful place for getting pictures done.
👍👍👍👍👍It's also got a well manicured lawn, where you can take the kids and walk around or simply sit and eat lunch or enjoy the view of the city.
Monica Knight - Idaho Realtor
Historical Boise location. You can take the elevator to the top of the bell tower on Sunday and Monday at no charge. Cool artifacts, photos and architecture to enjoy. Hosts weddings and private parties. Beautiful view of downtown Boise from the steps. Koi pond and garden below are original to the over 100 year old property. Great place to take out of town guests.
Bosnian Aj

Beautiful. My son and I had many little adventures crawling in the bushes and climbing on the rocks. The set up is beautiful and great for pictures
Carol Haydon
Viewing these photos brought back so many childhood memories of my friends and I "going to the depot". The "wishing well" was always a favorite place to climb up to along the stone walkways. Our barefeet walked those stone steps and pond edges many many times throughout our growing up years. We loved rolling down the grass slopes, sitting on the big rock bench, and wandering in and out of the depot, and the sound of those huge bells echoing for miles. Thanks for loving and caring for this great Boise Valley icon.
Nathaniel M.
Nice historic train depot. There's a great view from the bell tower which accessed via an elevator. Times are limited and not very many people can go up at a time and only with a guide.
James James
Fun place to spend time. Beautiful koi ponds. Lots of unique landscaping. Hours are very limited. Sunday and Monday 11 to 5. Still a must see even when building is closed

A classically scenic place. Lots of people get married or have all kinds of photo shoots here. I reccomend it as a place to go on a date while the koi pond is clear and the fish are active.
Bobby Foster
Great place for Boise history and really just to see the sights around Boise Idaho. Great park for family visits and views across the valley. Learn some history and take in the beauty of Idaho.
George Seybold
I wish I could personally express my appreciation to the men and women who made this depot a centerpiece of Boise. The beautiful, park-like landscaping truly frames the depot. Boise will grow around the depot and make it seem small over time, but the depot will forever be a cherished landmark of Boise.
lucretia “Lucky” thurman
Beautiful gardens although we did smell natural gas around the large rock structure.
Tony Huntley
Nice historical museum. Mostly about trains oddly enough. Pretty tight hours so check the website.

If you're looking for a classic train station then you need to visit Boise Depot.
Hours: Sunday & Monday 11AM - 5PM
Did you know the Boise elevation is 2753(ft)? There is a Union Pacific sign here with that information, but there are many signs here. Some of the signs and logos here look very vintage, so you'll want to take plenty of pictures here.
There are two trains beside the train station. Brick and clay roof tiles are all over the train station. While the train station is no longer in service it's a great structure that stands the test of time.
If a train station isn't interesting to you then consider visiting the Platt Gardens and relax next to a small water fountain. The Platt Gardens is in front of the Boise Depot.
