Reviews of Irondale Train Watching Platform
If you love train’s this is a great place to be. There’s even shelter for inclement weather.
IF you are an avid rail fan this place is for you. Busy and active place, and you are up close to it. If you are not into trains, don’t waste your time.
Excellent spot for watching trains. I recently visited here twice in the evening. There was not a very big delay in between trains. There's a very nice viewing platform. You're actually pretty close to the trains as they pass. I would highly recommend visiting here if you're a train lover or have little ones who love trains.
It's very quiet when there are no trains. This place could be amazing. The trains come by pretty slowly so you get a pretty good view of them.
Awesome not a place for little kids tho 🙂 …
The best one out of all the places I've been to.
My favorite place in the whole city! Well lit, and safe! Well covered for all elements. Has constant train traffic!
I have been coming here since a little kid. It is a really great place to come spot trains all day!
To be honest, I don’t consider myself to be a connoisseur of trains, however, my experience here may have changed that. Being able to get so close to the trains, see them in such intricate detail, and almost feel their presence is truly breathtaking. When the first locomotive rolled by, it was an almost out of body experience, a cathartic release of emotion and anticipation truly unparalleled. This will definitely be my new spot: in seasons of loneliness, depression, sadness, and anxiety. The coming and going of the trains is a potent reminder of the ever changing landscape of our lives - as soon as one comes it is gone. Feeling gushing winds that hit me on the viewing platform as the iron horses whoosh by really gives perspective on how small I am as a human and the deep and true meaning of the human life. Ahh what a beautiful picture of the frailty, triviality, and novelty of existence.
It was so fun and they have a cafe to eat at you would love it
This is one of my most favorite places in the state whenever I wanna railfan, I always like the cafe across the tracks from it aswell. Highly recommended place!
Great place to view trains. 4 tracks (2 are service tracks). It’s next to the police station and City Hall and a great restaurant next to it.
Good View
Good spot for action but not a great photo opportunity, i'd do north or south for better options. Cook Springs is not far and offers a tunnel and bridge shot.
Had to wait awhile for the train because it kept stopping and starting and stopping and starting but when it passed It was old time fun.
Great Norfolk Southern viewing area!

Love the whole atmosphere everyone is soooo kind the place is above amazing
Good for train fans. My kids enjoyed it.
Just a neat place to watch the trains, nice and safe
Very busy. Very attractive for avid rail fans
Only way this spot could be better is if they had ATS monitor and/or radio.
Good place to bring the kids to see trains in a tion.
