Reviews of Western Heritage Center
Natasha
Very informative and some neat exhibits. I really like the exhibit on the Apsáalooke tribe and the video the had playing. While we were there they had an exhibit on various pandemics and the affects on the people of Billings. I do wish they had a little more on the history of the building but it was a nice stop downtown
Rhonda Birk
Nice place to visit.
We actually ended up here due to a Adventure Lab we were doing for Geocaching. Loved everything about this building.
Stacy Mastrolia
We spent about two hours here looking at all of the exhibits. They have a room that tells about the history of medical care on the reservations - a problem still today. But my favorite part was downstairs reading/watching a dvd capturing some native americans sharing their stories first-hand. I enjoyed it so much, I purchased the dvd sets so I could hear all of the stories. Very knowledgeable staff at the front desk, if you have any questions. Well worth the stop!
Anna Hedstrom
Wow! I was really impressed with this spot. I was visiting Billings and stopped here unplanned. Only $5 and the exhibits are wonderful. I learned a lot about Montana history. Highly suggest checking out it!
Lynn Buckner
Lovely facility. We spent a good hour or more going through Billings history, a wonderful Native American section, and a very detailed area about the Yellowstone fire in 1988. Stunning photos!
Jordan Luenz
Lovely old building downtown. Some fine art downstairs, a collection of 19th-century aviology sketches, & a few artefacts upstairs. It was pleasant but a little sparse in my opinion. If I were their curator, I would have more items on display & make more efficient use of space. Parking is also minimal, & navigating the one-ways & the closed roads downtown can be tricky.

Enjoy this place. Small compared to some I've seen. Nicely set up and the hosts were very kind.

Their exhibit on the pandemic in the early 1900s was very informative. The actual center isn't that big but I definitely recommend you visit!
Colleen Madden
A nice little museum. Pretty small and very low key, but some very interesting displays. Located in the old public library, a very cool building. Potential to be fabulous, but probably a pretty slim budget, reflected in the quality of the exhibits. Great selection of Montana lore & literature books in the gift shop!
Karma
Fun for the girls. So much information! Lovely building!
Teri Lynch
We really enjoyed it. And the young man at the desk, easy to talk with, before we were off to explore.
Paula Schuck (Thrifty Mommas Tips)
Gorgeous building and very well informed guides at the entry. Small museum inside and can be done in one hour. Check out the art displays as they are impactful. Take photos outside as the building itself is lovely and easy to walk to downtown.
Christian Dinkel
Yoga at the museum! My significant other and I go every Tuesday and it's always a wonderful experience. Cecilia, our instructor, really knows her stuff. Nameste!
Virginia Bryan
Always interesting and well-researched exhibits. Historic building was city's first library. Participates in ArtWalk Downtown Billings in even-numbered months.
Sandy Mayes
Really nice museum, friendly staff.
Worth the stop

Wonderful exhibition of classic Western artifacts open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday closed on Sunday and Monday across the street from Western pawn broker and also the Far West Gallery is situated on historic Montana Avenue in downtown Billings there's a statue of the founder of the city in the courtyard with some classic architecture -- highly recommended
Kyle Nelson

Catarino Munoz
Small place. Nice people. They had some new cell crow nation art. The heritage museum is actually in the old library building

A great center to go to among other amazing historical locations in Billings. Fun fact is that the Heffner Stone Quarry, which once was located where the college is now on 27th Street, was the place that provided the sand stone for that building. All of the sandstone came from the foot of the Rims. The sandstone of the Heffner Stone Quarry was certified to last 100 years. Another fun fact is that Heffner Steps located just to the right of 27th Street was created by that company.

Fun flavors from the old Wild West! History helps to get a perspective on how we got where we are, choices we now have, and who we can be, while we are getting, wherever "there" turns out to be, or not.
