Reviews of Historic London Town & Gardens
Interactive displays were a hit with my daughter at the exhibit. The tour was good for seeing where the buildings once stood and for seeing the William Brown House, but things aren't necessarily set up the way they would be when it was built. It looks like a big mixture of time periods in one building. The tenement building and carpenter shop were more interesting than the main house. The trail was short enough to not get too tired.
Disappointed not able to see main house except during the walking tour times due to a shortage of staff. So you better check and plan arriving during one of the two tour times or you miss out on a key part of the historical site. The grounds and trails are nice.
The exhibits were informative, the gardens were enjoyable to walk but the guided tours of the buildings and gardens were the best. The colonial-costumed folks describing life as a housewife, sailor and carpenter of the time were fascinating. Definitely visit on a weekend to be able to take advantage.
Great place for a family day trip or a first date. Have not seen for myself, but the gardens are said to be, quote "Magical" around Easter. A must see.
This is a really interesting place, honestly not really sure what to make of it. We are very happy to such a large and expensive piece of land preserved for semi-public use (if you are a member or pay the reasonable $10 admission fee). Great views of the river and very nice walking trail through somewhat maintained forest/ garden areas. Some modern replica old town buildings. A unique and original large exterior brick building (but highly updated with minimal to no original interior). Some nice children play areas. A decent sized informational display in the visitor center (with minimal original artifacts). Free timed tours. On the weekend when we were there, they even had a native plant sale and period costume attired craft people doing things like carpentry and spinning in the replica buildings. All these things may not have been exactly to the historical quality I was hoping, but they were doing SO much here, I felt like the $10 was very reasonable. Yes, it is annoying that you can enter the only original building on a tour at only 2 times per day, especially once you go in and realize most of the interior is replica since it was used by the local county for 130+ years (most its life) as government housing for the poor....and has standard drywall ceilings, electricity, smoke detectors, etc. The building is still an amazing landmark due to the construction but what real harm anyone could do inside really escapes me. The garden is very pretty and well maintained, but of the few markers they had to indicate what the plantings were, they had taped over (I assume because the plant on the marker died or was dormant or moved). So the informational aspect of the garden is a little lacking. The whole place is just interesting because this is a tiny town (300 people) that lasted less than 100 years and faded away of natural change with just the brick building really remaining. All the staff were very enthusiastic and friendly. Overall it is worth a 2-4 hour visit depending on if you have kids, how many tours you want to take, and if you are a fast/slow garden stroller (about 1-mile of trails).
Giselle at the desk was very friendly Diana and Turner are very funny and gave a informative tour guide can't wait to go back 😊
I have worked many weddings here, beautiful venue, and the staff is always great to work with.
This is a beautiful and historic place right on the South River. The gardens in bloom change with each month and when I visited the azaleas and camellias were glorious. They have a lot of programs for children that will start up now that covid safety measures are relaxing, and an interesting interpretive center.
Absolutely gorgeous! London Town & Gardens is so accommodating and professional. They are located right on the water with a beautiful view and historic buildings. They have immense charm, definitely recommend for a beautiful wedding or event.

The garden is very peaceful. Views of river quite nice. Not a lot of walking trail but good for a stroll then relaxing by river.
Really great place for a field trip. I'd like to go back with more time to explore, but the staff was great with our 1st graders. Everyone learned a lot and had fun.
The staff is friendly and shares very interesting information. The walk around the gardens with the water view is very nice. Better in Spring or Fall
zero complaints ♡ so beautiful, well-maintained, friendly staff, dog-friendly, and the museum has interactive parts (I partook of some carpentry).
Recognized as Blue Star family establishment, that being said the grounds were very beautiful and the homes were very interesting. Not every building was open due to COVID but I will definitely return when they do open. Good for children as well!
Historic London Town is a hidden treasure. The site is beautiful and the gardens are absolutely beautiful. Anyone even with the slightest interest in history should visit this beautiful place.
Girl Scout lesson - all of the staff was wonderful, the program was fantastic. The girls loved visiting 'The Brown House' and dressing in period outfits.
Very lovely historic site with scenic trails, overlooking the water.
Our son's school came here for a field trip, the staff was wonderful, knowledgeable, and very patient with a mixed class of 3-6 year olds! We can't wait to come again.
Lovely and interesting. I want to go back and spend more time in the gardens.
Incredibly friendly and informative staff. The grounds are lovely and very nicely maintained. The sound and sensory garden was the cherry on top for my 3 under 5. We will definitely be back!
You can opt.for a tour guide, or walk around on your own. Beautiful views, gardens, and educational.
We still need to go back to, see all of it
This is a great teaching tool
Felt like we had the place to ourselves. Great that dogs are allowed. We had beautiful weather...lots of flowers in bloom.
Beautiful site. Very nice walk through the woodland garden .
It says it is handicap friendly gravel paths to go see everything are very loose and very hard to navigate in a scooter or in a wheelchair have to walk on the side of the the grass
Beautiful and educational. We went on a Friday and we hardly encountered any other visitors. What an interesting way to teach our children about history. The kids loved exploring the buildings and the grounds.
The gardens were lovely and the river view is beautiful. The grounds have picnic tables around, so we're brought lunch and eating outside. The large house was not open, so is like to come back another time to see it.
visit to the historic London Town and gardens was the best way I could think of spending my Saturday on such a beautiful day. With a mile long garden and beautiful water to gaze at, the historic site is a terrific place to stay! There were also marines reenacting and time period appropriate reproductions!
Highly recommended
Just the perfect place for a wedding! The site is well manicured, historically accurate and waterfront views, spectacular. I’ve been to their garden sale when plants are divided and have bought some of the very best native trees/shrubs and plants, ever. Come early because there’s always a long line for great prices. It is also terrific for kids - a great learning experience - and pets, friendly and warmly received. Go, spend the day and have a picnic.
Very nice gardens and historical buildings
Lovely gardens. Very relaxing. The reenactors are on point and very personable.
Really enjoyed this. Had a very warm and enjoyable conversation with a staff member making a dress in the Mayor's Tenement. At the end a strong thunderstorm approached across the water and it honestly made me think about what that would be like staying in this colonial era very large shack through such a thunderstorm.
We dipped inside to look at the inside exhibit. I get bored in museums sometimes and this was not one of those musems. The exhibits were well put together with multiple interactive experiences that were enjoyable and not cringe lazy like some museums.
Going to the old tavern, one is treated to an architectural piece that demonstrates building techniques that would considered lavish for that era of American settlement. As a builder, I found the basement masonry to be of particular interest considering the tremendous mass of the twin chimneys poking above. With I think 5 fireplaces in the basement alone, there are beautiful masonry arches supporting the weight of all the additional fireplaces on the floors above.
After that we went to the local Edgewater Resteraunt which we recommend and had a great lunch.
Will be back to bring inlaws.
beautiful, calm place. admission fee is required.
This was a great experience! I enjoyed viewing the replica of the homes, very detailed.
Went here for a wedding it was super beautiful and huge.
We really enjoyed our visit. Our 8 year old got to make about a 6 foot rope. The period-costumed staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The museum is interesting and well done. The outside info signs are worn and hard to read, and the cost was a little pricey in our opinion. However, we do recommend it.
Just left a Wedding Open House. Gorgeous venue for a wedding. You have the water, the gardens and a taste of history all in one setting. Beautiful views. Large grounds that are well maintained. You cannot go wrong!
Amazing & beautiful venue! It's a hidden gem in Edgewater & is a great place to host a wedding (or any event)! The scenery is spectacular! The staff is professional, friendly & kind! And most importantly-- they are dog friendly! You NEED to check out this place today because you'll instantly fall in love!
Wonderful garden with winding trails. Not all native plants. Historic settlement house. Beautiful river vista but, of course, many large homes shouldering the opposing banks. Activities for children but check website prior to visit to see if children's activities are going on.
Fabulous year round dog-friendly gardens to tour and preserved historic buildings and reconstructions. There is a great visitor center with a gift shop. It is within an easy drive of many restaurants and historic Annapolis. Small fee or membership. Beautiful water views.
Beautiful gardens. Great place for a wedding. Check their page to see when they have events. We went on the day of the Celtic festival and had a great time. They don't sell food here, so pack a snack or lunch. There are plenty of places to eat.
This is the most beautiful time of year to go. The weather is perfect and so many flowers in bloom.
We visited during one of their special events. The only original building lays claim to George Washington having eaten there. There's plenty of history here but the scenery on the water makes it worthwhile. Be warned there is an admission charge but parking is free.
Beautiful garden, but the buildings are nearly empty inside, there is very Little information about this place displayed, so the admission fee ($10 in 2021) seems a bit high.
A very beautiful place and the 1:00 pm tour was fantastic ! Our guide was super she gave so many facts and information. Took our questions and even included the childern in the conversation on their level of understanding. Perfect day for sure, We hope to come back this Fall to picnic and see more. We just ran out of time! ☺
Incredibly beautiful and peaceful!
Attended a baby shower here in the beautiful outdoor space right on the water. The outdoor space was comfortable and large enough for a party of 25-50. Surrounding greens were well manicured. Very calm and serene!
Beautiful ocean front garden and great way to expose kids to colonial life. The museum is small but lots of great items to look at.
I might have given this place 5 stars, but I didn't get to see much of it. I wasn't able to navigate a double stroller past the visitor center. The map wasn't very user friendly, either. We tried a few different ways to get to the gardens, but it just wasn't possible with a double stroller. The staff was beyond exceptuonal!
Attended a wedding here. It was to be outside, but the rain didn't cooperate. The staff handled this perfectly. It's almost like they do this every day :^}. We were in the pavilion. There are 2 unisex bathrooms, and a private room for the bride.
Buffet dinner was held in an adjacent tent. DJ and music. Bar. Great views. The larger facility includes the brick manor house by the guy who established the ferry service over the South River. In this historic area, there is the well, a barn, a tobacco drying barn, and some shops. There is also a building for the county archaeology lab.
How have I lived in Maryland so long and not known about historic London Town? My kids and I went for a homeschool program and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Historic structures like a brick mansion and tobacco shed. Reconstructed buildings on site as well like a rope walk! Beautifully situated by the South River. Gardens with a mile-long trail (approx). Interactive Museum. Gift Shop. Clean bathrooms. Ample parking. Picnic tables. This is definitely something to stop in and see if you are in the Annapolis Baltimore DC area. Or even if you are on the Eastern Shore! Plan to spend all day! And they have special events and happenings all throughout the calendar year! What a gem!
Perfect wedding venue! We used Historic London Town and Gardens as the venue for our wedding this October. Full disclosure, London Town was the first venue and one of only two that we looked at in person. Our visit happened to be on a gorgeous autumn day – perfect blue sky, a little warm for the season – and we were really taken with the natural beauty of the gardens and how secluded the property felt. We really liked the idea of having our ceremony and cocktail hour outside, with the reception under the tent. And, we really didn’t want a generic ballroom or event space – we were looking for something that was pretty but not stuffy and was a little bit unique. London Town fit all of our criteria. We felt like we took a little bit of a risk with a partially outdoor venue because the weather is so unpredictable in the Mid-Atlantic in the Fall, but knowing that in the event of inclement weather everything could be moved inside gave us the comfort we needed to move forward.
On our wedding day (exactly one year after we first visited the venue), we were again lucky with absolutely perfect weather. One of the things we loved about London Town is that because the gardens are so beautiful on their own you don’t need to add a ton of decoration to them. Similarly, the tent has lighting built-in, so unless you are looking to use special spot-lighting, etc. there isn’t much you need to add there either. I also really appreciated the bridal suite in the Pavilion – it isn’t huge, but is a pretty space to take “getting ready” photos, doubled as our place to stash the wedding party’s personal belongings, and tripled as a refuge for our dear friend with an infant! Both during and after the wedding many of our guests shared how much they loved the venue and that it made a beautiful setting for the wedding.
Finally, I need to take a minute to talk about Keara, the Director of Events. Keara is the most responsive person I have ever encountered. It sometimes felt like she responded before I even hit ‘send’ on an email. Not only was she incredibly quick, she was patient with our endless questions, generous with vendor recommendations, and just a generally delightful person to work with. Historic London Town and Garden is a beautiful spot, but getting to work with Keara was truly a highlight for us in the planning process. We were absolutely thrilled with our wedding at London Town – it was without question the perfect venue for us, and I highly recommend it.
LondonTown is a great place not just for family activities and history, but also for couples and friends. (they have some great evening activities. The Sins and Secrets tours in October are great.) The gardens are nice to walk around with beauty all year long.
Even though they were operating under limited opening conditions due to winter season they offered us to join their employee / volunteers group in a comprehensive tour as part of their training. Even though we did not participate it was very kind of them to offer. Very kind employees.
Historic London Town &: Garden is located on the Banks of the South River. It contains well preserved examples of colonial era architecture. There is an exhibition space, a professional kitchen and small bookstore in the education building. The garden has large mature shrubs and trees like red cedars, magnolias, oaks, and river birch. Although remote, it's a great venue for weddings and private events.
Fantastic place. The musket and rope making demonstrations were very interesting, the reenactors are friendly and knowledge, and the garden walk is beautiful. I am very glad Anne Arundel county supports this unique experience.
Loved the history & the well preserved condition of the buildings. Off season so no crowds. The historical placards were concise & yet informative as well as easy to read & understand.
The facility it wonderful and the buildings are amazing...tremendous structure built so long ago. The grounds and setting are beautiful...and the staff and tour guides exceptional. I highly recommend visiting.
Interesting local history museum with beautiful gardens year around
Beautiful venue! My partner and I created this jelly fish installation and it went perfectly with the venue! Would love to do another wedding Installation there!
Lots of fall foliage and beautiful flowers. 2 historic houses open to see.
Nice location, great for walking the dogs at.
This is such a wonderful gem nestled in an unassuming neighborhood in Edgewater. The staff are so nice and knowledgeable, and they do a great job of conveying the authenticity of the colonial experience. Definitely recommend it for families and class trips!
Neat little hidden spot. Was here for a tour as part of a convention group. Interesting display of history combined with a botanical garden. Some impressive redwoods!
Nice little garden and walking park. Off you are nearby in the spring, with a quick look. Not really a destination however.
Awesome docents who provided excellent information and interactive experiences for kids. Great artifacts and replicas of colonial items. An enjoyable experience for all.
Very interesting and historical great place to take a bus tour group of any age
Missed the tour so didn't have access to Main building 😥 …
Nice walk, beautiful flowers, and free if you get your tickets at the local library!
Great 4th grade field trip from Howard County. Jen was our tour guide...she was great!!!! Thank you for a wonderful learning experience!!!!
Went for a field trip here and had a wonderful time with our tour guide Michael. The kids learned so much and had so much fun with the hands on activities!
The garden always has something to offer no matter the season or time of season! A beautful setting along the South River.
Great place to walk on easy nature trails!
Very nice facility. It's right on the water. Excellent site for a small wedding. It has a covered pavilion in case of Inclement Weather.
Very nice museum and garden.
Beautiful gardens! The historical buildings are extremely interesting and the visitors center has excellent exhibits.
An interesting and beautiful place to visit. Not very crowded so it was easy to stay safe.
Nice historic tavern and some lovely walking gardens. Pet friendly, so a good place to bring the dog on a nice day!
I went here on a field trip when I was in highschool. While the presentations were boring (to me), the old buildings and gardens were beautiful and interesting to explore!
Historic area. Beautiful gardens with unusual plants. Great view of South River.
Awesome place to explore. So much knowledge to be learned. And to think it is 15 minutes from my house. Beautiful place for a wedding.

Beautiful but small, great gardens, water views, and historic buildings.
Great Gardens and historic buildings.Beautiful views of the South River. Our dog loves to come here for walks.
It is a lovely area that's along the South River that includes well manicured gardens and historical remnants of the old London Town settlement.
Could use the grounds more for kids, ie apark, even a petting farm, lovely grounds excellent trails. Just needs something more when there's no events going on
Historic areas are always fantastic. It is very important that we preserve as best we can our historical areas.
Nice historic place to visit, pretty gardens with great view

Cute place, but the gardens were a bit of a mess. Not really worth $11 imho.
