Reviews of Baltimore Museum of Industry
This is hands down one of my favorite museums. I don’t know how we didn't find it sooner but I’m sure glad we did! We spent a good couple of hours in the museum and then went down the block to have lunch on the water front.
The museum chronicles the industry history of Baltimore and each exhibit is even more fantastic as you go through. As a 47 year old history lover and teacher for two decades I came away learning a lot.
I am someone with mobility issues and the museum was accessible enough for me to navigate it with my scooter. The bathrooms are also accessible. There are also plenty of benches throughout the museum. Finally, the staff were helpful and really nice. They also have a small gift shop.
Highly recommend this opportunity for all ages! They do a great job of recreating the history of Industry in this area many years ago (mostly 1800’s)! Lots of hands on opportunities and vintage equipment. They also are situated on the Inner Harbor so the views are fantastic! They have their own parking lot which is rare for this area. The staff were all so very helpful and friendly!
Went to a wedding here and it was definitely different in a positive way. Absolutely loved the history created in this museum and I couldn’t not believe the views in the evening. What a fantastic venue just overall brilliant.
Children rejoice and are happy that they can look and play with some of the exhibits. definitely a weekend destination for kids and their parents. The museum, in part, tells the story of things familiar to us. From the primitive to the complex and from the complex to the simple.
Really really fun place to go and really enjoyed the guided tour. You get to see some of the machinery and printing presses in action. Really informative and awesome displays!
Attended for a private event, but was able to do some exploring during the cocktail hour. Really interesting, incredible exhibits of restored history, like you're traveling through time. There's also a beautiful view of the marina.
Beautiful venue with some of the best views of Baltimore! The staff were incredibly helpful as well. I can't recommend the Baltimore Museum of Industry as a wedding venue enough!
Nice little museum worth a quick trip if you're from Baltimore or new to the area and are looking to learn a thing or two about some of the industries that built the city (and America)
People were very friendly and the price is reasonable. I especially liked all of the material they had on Bethlehem Steel - I'd definitely like to see more pieces and things from their collection.
Great experience! The museum was very informative, especially about the variety of industries Baltimore hosted. As an out of towner, it was interesting to learn about Baltimore's history. The recreation shops/worksites were very interesting. I also liked the wall of Baltimore firsts.
Better access to the tugboat outside would've been great.
We could not have had our wedding at a more perfect venue. We envisioned getting married by the water and BMI not only provided this but a completely unique and fun interior. We had to move our ceremony inside and it was just as beautiful with the entire harbor as our backdrop.
All our guests loved the exhibits and couldn’t get enough of the car for photos. After doing our initial walk through with Kelley it was a no brainer and we booked the next day. Angie was an absolute gem helping guide us through the rehearsal and timing for our ceremony. Everything was perfect and it was definitely due to her help and guidance throughout the night.
WOW. What an amazing experience we had today at the BMI. Thanks Jessica for setting us up with patient and professional tour guides, O'Malley and Gaby! The students in our Summer Enrichment Camp were provided with excellent age-appropriate hands on activities that equipped them with not only "souvenirs" to take back home but also knowledge of historic Baltimore. This place is a gem. We had a large group, with many squirmy PreK students yet no one missed a beat. They are a well-oiled machine! (Pun intended) We look forward to visiting again!
We took our son on our off day. I had a fun. Learned a few things I haven't been since a lil girl on a school field trip. So happy to see it's still a popular place for school trips. The host was extremely nice.
Great place to learn history of Baltimore. Amazing exhibits recreate workshops, stores, and original manufacturing equipment. Museum was perfect size to spend a couple of hours & then move on to lunch.
This was my first visit but it won't be my last. We enjoyed ourselves, but got there late so we didn't get to see everything.
A group of us went here on Sunday for a wedding and all I have to say is WOW! What made this an amazing experience was one of the event staff members Angie who reported she has been working there for 22 years. She did everything she could to make sure the bridal party was comfortable and taken care of. She was so kind and genuine which made a stressful situation so much better. I hope the owners of this business realize the value they have with such an amazing and dedicated employee!!
The museum overall is also a great unique experience in itself too, which I highly recommend!
Super friendly staff, beautiful location, ample parking and interesting exhibits!
We thoroughly enjoyed this museum.
There is an entry fee, but the location, presentation and history presented are well worth the $.
We particularly enjoyed the print shop exhibit, the new steel exhibit and the gift shop!
If you are worried about taking little ones, don't be. There are numerous stickers on the exhibits encouraging touch and play. (See who can get all the fire hoses connected and disconnected in the shortest amount of time!)
I learned a bunch a had a good time in a great location.
Go, go, go!
I attended an event that was hosted at the museum. This place had so many things to look at from history. You could spend so much time just looking at everything. The set up for the event was great, and the views at night of the harbor were amazing as well.
Parking was easy and getting tickets was easier. Not interesting to everybody but definitely belongs in Baltimore to capture the city's rich history. It's an important feature and individuals with a higher reading level can definitely see it's value.
I work on industrial equipment.
My company rebuilt a sister crane to the big one on display outside.
At the Baltimore Coast Guard Yard.
I just like looking at all the old stuff thinking how it used to be done with no modern electronics and all the tech we have today.
Enjoy the fact that history is being preserved.
I hate to see old things thrown out.
We scrap a lot of old machinery and it’s true they don’t make ‘‘em like the used to.
Keep up the good work.
This is a must for any history fans. I went on my daughter's field trip and really enjoyed it. Our tour guide Jessie did an amazing job and her knowledge was unbelievable! I'll definitely be back
We absolutely LOVED having BMI as venue for our wedding. You can not beat having the Baltimore harbor as the backdrop for your ceremony. The museum is a great conversation starter for people during cocktail hour - you can even put your own slideshow or movie together in the movie theater exhibit! The great room where the dinner was held is the perfect mix of historical artifacts and elegance. The staff was incredible to work with - Kelley and Angie were great and flexible. Kelley literally bent over backwards to make not only planning as easy as possible but also our actual wedding day the perfect day! She lit up the crane in rainbow for us as a surprise, and continued to make sure our glasses were full. Everything Kelley did was above and beyond the call of duty, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We really felt like we had a great friend looking out for us all night, not just a wedding vendor. We cannot recommend BMI enough!
My 1st time going and wow it was amazing. So much history and culture that i had not known before about our city. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. And the displays was amazing. The location is even awesome over looking the water and the boats. I really enjoyed my time there. I would recommend to anyone who has never been to take time to visit. They will be blown away by all the history and technology and industrial age that we came from.
This was a wonderful experience. A beautifully curated collection of Maryland’s industry over the years. We were attended by two extremely kind and patient museum guides, I can’t thank them enough for their care of our little energetic troop of youngsters. Add this place to the top of your list for great family and educational fun.
Simply an incredible museum of past to present information about everything from blacksmithing, auto industry, sign/advertising industry, print, fashion, and more. If you are looking for a really great museum, I highly recommend it. If you want to see neat demonstrations, go on Saturdays!
This was a better than expected experience. My 9 year old son was fully engaged for several hours as he had an opportunity to create and interact with several different exhibits.
The staff/volunteers did a great job explaining things and bringing history to life. Currently, there is a video game exhibit which was a lot of fun for kids.
I would think this museum is perfect for kids ages 8 to 12. Others would also enjoy some as well.
I would say that a big part of this was the weekend volunteers, so go when they are there.
This museum was super cool! The tour guide went over the oyster industry, garment industry, blacksmithing, printing, and they also talked about the great Baltimore fire and put a really interesting spin on it. Beautiful location, and definitely a lot to see. Was there for like an hour and a half with group from work (this place is great for random groups) and could have stayed twice that long. Also there is a cafe if you need a bite while you're learning about Baltimore!
There's so much to the industry of this famous port. Be sure to attend one of the guided tours. They will provide so much insight and original story telling. It's a real treat to have them demonstrate how some of the machinery works, too.
It felt like I was in a time capsule. We had a work event there and I really enjoyed it highly did not realise how many companies was started in Baltimore city. The older gentleman that works there is very passionate about working there and has lots to say and tell.
There are so many exhibits to visit here. The staff was knowledgeable about so many different areas as well as the history of Baltimore. They are great with kids as well. This is a great place to learn many new things and enjoy the great scenery.
I went here with family from out of town. We were looking for a history type museum. It was great, like finding the kinds of things the American Pickers find in old garages and attics. From old signs and bottles from local industry to the machines people used and ongoing tours announced throughout the day that include demonstrations. I found it charming. Also, people are able to rent for events and it is right on the water.
We purchased the Fourth of July that included parking and museum tickets. You could bring as many people fit in the car and a picnic. It was a great time! The museum provides a great space to accommodate guests. You can bring all your picnic necessities like tables, chairs, coolers etc and find a spot on their outdoor decks. There’s also a pavilion where you can “park” your family if you want. The Car parking was easy and really close. We
found a great spot to have our picnic and just enjoyed our snacks. Then, we walked over to the museum which has memorabilia and artifacts from the industrial era in Baltimore. It was fun and educational. The museum also provided music and activities for kids out in the pavilion. People danced and kids enjoyed themselves. Everyone had a great view of the fireworks and the inner harbor. In attendance were an diverse group of families but everyone was friendly and peacefully enjoying our holiday. I don’t want to forget to add that the museum has great bathrooms too! I highly recommend for everyone of all ages!!
Had a meeting there. So much rich history here in Baltimore & it's on the Bus link (71). Nice experience.👍❤️
Great value for the admission price.
Great venue for weddings, conferences, and networking events. Provides an interesting environment filled with past inventions and machinery coupled with views out across the harbor into fells point and the inner harbor. Plenty of area for party sizes up to 150 people.
Great educational visit for all ages. My kids loved the make your own video game part the most, could barely get them out of that part lol great history of baltimore and beautiful outside view. Kids had a blast and isnt too busy. It took maybe 2.5 hours with us taking our time. Parking is free and convenient, great staff. Will def visit again.
Guided tours are on the weekend, great fun for families esp homeschool. I enjoyed the history and the old photographs and old machines.
Extremely interesting exhibits detailing many Baltimore City and surrounding areas businesses and industries. Pictures and prototypes tell stories of the businesses and people who made them successful.
Very interesting exhibits showing the history of several industries we take for granted. If you get to take a tour, Audrey is terrific.
This should be a top attraction of any vist to Baltimore. A unique museum with outstanding exhibits, and artifacts.
This museum has so much local history! It’s a real hidden gem. The annual membership pays for itself with 3 visits. They have s nice gift shop, and on Saturdays in the summer there is a large farmers market on the parking lot, with food, produce, and more. This is a great place to learn a lot about Baltimore’s amazing history!
This is a great museum. Take a step back in time. I would consider this a must-see for anyone wanting to learn about Baltimore. Tour guide and front desk also great. My only complaint is I wish there was a little more about Bethlehem Steel than photos and text.
Cover charge 13.00 for adults, from the outside looking it was nice, able to take pictures outside where the scenery was nice.
We booked BMI a year in advance for our daughter’s wedding this past July. Shortly after, the museum was recognized as the best wedding venue by the Baltimore Sun Readers' Choice contest. Very appropriate as we could not have asked for a better experience. From the ceremony on the point thru the rest of the celebration, the evening was everything we could have hoped for. Kelley was incredible to work with from the day we met her. She offered nothing but good advice as she patiently answered all of our questions over the months leading to the big day. Seeing how well the place works especially when using vendors who work there frequently was amazing. There is so much to see and do, our guests could have used more than the five hours to enjoy everything. Angie was fantastic as she led us thru our rehearsal the day before and was even more impressive throughout our event. She was always looking out for the new couple and kept the entire evening on track. A few items that make BMI such a great choice: free and convenient safe parking; so much to see you do not need decorations; plenty of room for tables, food, bars and dancing; and, finally, the perfect back drop for great pictures inside and out all evening long. Thanks to the BMI and all our vendors, our families and guests enjoyed what many called one of the best weddings they have ever attended.
Very nice exhibits, my boyfriend loved all the eclectic and I fell in love with the cars. We touched everything we could. Note you can’t touch everything and it’s a bit of a struggle considering how cool everything is, the prices are worth it and the map around is really nice. Would probably go again.
The museum is both casual.and classy with sections that make it feel le you stepping back in time . Well worth your tr of you ever wanted to know the history of different appliances. As well as black smithing and different jobs
My kids loved this museum. Alot of great Baltimore industrial artifacts here. Its right by the water beautiful view. And parking is free.
A hidden gem museum of Baltimore. Interesting information and beautifully immersive exhibits. The permanent exhibits of a cannery, pharmacy, garment loft, printing press, and grocer are so detailed. The temporary exhibits are just as fascinating and interactive so adults and kids will enjoy. Plus, if you visit Saturday morning you can also enjoy the Bmore Flea located right next door.
A easy spot to miss on Key Highway, but a very nice place to see the industrial exhibits relating to the Baltimore maritime industry. Historic tug boat Baltimore is there. A great view of the Domino Sugar Factory across the water. Easy parking and nearby restaurants in the Fort Hill area nearby!
Came from a wedding. Amazing place. Clean, unique and very intriguing. Will have to come back for a visit.
So interesting even though it is a relatively small place. If you are into the history of how things were made long ago this is a place to visit. I would recommend following the tour guide and they know alot about what is there and how things were done. How they made newspapers long ago was my favorite.
Nice place, but I would not recommended if you want to take little kids because most thing you can not touch which it's very difficult to make a 2 years old to understand that. However, my 6 years old boy loved it because they had some big kids experiments .
BMI is a nice little museum dedicated to the history of industry in Baltimore. I went for a few hours and was able to see everything at least briefly. Plan to spend a few more hours if you want to see more. It is a cool space though with lots of interesting stuff.
Super interesting place! I'm glad we stopped by during our trip to Maryland. They have a few staged stores/factories (A deli, bakery, printshop just to name a few) that were really cool to look around. The people working there were friendly and chatty! We will definitely come back the next time we're in Baltimore!
I have lived here my whole life and have never been to this museum. We went with my daughters' girl scout troop over the weekend. What a cool place!!! I especially loved the Beth Steel exhibit and seeing all the industries that made Baltimore so hugely important back in the day. Made me proud to be from here.
Great displays that really reveal how important Baltimore was industrially. Well laid out and informative
Nice location and free parking - even EV charger. But my sons verdict for the actual exhibits: ‘old and boring’ - could use a revamp and a bit more interactivity.
Had a wonderful afternoon here. The guided tour was very informative and cool to see some of the items in the museum in actual use.
Fascinating museum, not far from the main inner harbor area. A must see!
Had a great time at Baltimore Museum of Industry. Tour guides were knowledgable and high energy. Cool space.
It was affordable to get in had free parking it didn't take us long to see the museum had a place to eat lunch if you bring one over all a fun afternoon with the family
Wonderful hidden gem. Historical information and fun interactive for kids.
Thank you to Kelley who made our special day amazing ! We had so many compliments on the venue and so excited on of our wedding gifts was a personalized brick ♡ Book here for any event, you will not be disappointed!
Fascinating museum. Illustrates how hugely Baltimore has contributed to America.
This place i would highly recommend for any type of educational field trip to learn about the city they live in.
Super fun place to spend the afternoon. Love the textile and print shops especially!
Spent time in the print shop. I used all.that stuff 50 years ago! A good collection. Other galleries are very interesting!
The Baltimore Museum of Industry was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding. It's still incredible to me that we were married in such a special place. The outdoor location on the point for the ceremony was beyond what we had envisioned for the day, and we were comforted to know that even if it rained, we could still get married in such a beautiful location inside (those windows!).
From day one, Kelley from BMI was incredible to work with -- answering all of our questions, helping us prepare for the big day, and on the day-of being SO attentive. One example: Very few couples can say they actually ate on their wedding day, and Kelley made sure we did. :)
The museum itself is such an amazing space and I need to go back again to really take in the exhibits fully as a guest. Our guests loved walking around the museum during cocktail hour and we felt so proud to put Baltimore's best foot forward for our out-of-town guests, showing them the history of industry in Baltimore. We even got to put a video together to play in the theater during the cocktail hour, which was very special. This venue is absolutely everything I dreamed of for our big day and we don't have enough good things to say about getting married at the BMI!
Had a wonderful experience and a great tour with Mr. Jack! Lots of fun activities while learning a lot of history! Very hands-on to occupy a group of 4th grade boys on a day off school!!
Awesome museum that has a great collection of historical artifacts showing what life was like for the ordinary working men, women and children of the Baltimore area. When I visited some years ago, there was an amazing docent in the printing shop who had spent decades working for a local newspaper. He was a fountain of information; I hope he is still there and doing well.
Great space for Stoop Storytellers. Glad to have been a featured artists.
Very nice museum recommend with kids 4-11
Went here for an event. Neat venue and could be a nice museum, but the event did not give us time to tour.
It was very, very interesting it brought me back on GOOD old Times. It also gave me information I didn't know.
Great place. Too my 10 year old here and he had a great time going through the museum. Worth the trip.
Very nice outdoor venue by the harbor! (I attended an event here. )
Fascinating. Goes into enough depth so you can learn quite a bit.
Fascinating place for adults. Very interesting - especially for local folks who know some of the names and places memorialized here.
Fascinating! Everyone should take time to visit this museum, especially Baltimorians. The guide we had was knowledgeable and patient escorting a crowd of 9 year Olds.
Very nice place to learn about industry history. I adore the newspaper printing area. Great place for all ages.
It was really nice and informative, the display was nice.
Front disk guy was very patient and trying his best always to answer everyone questions.
This place is epic.my girlfriend Sarah and kid Brian want there with his school federal hill prep and they had an amazing time.all the kids loved it an it teaches they alot in the process.its a good place to learn while enjoying yourself.definitly gonna go again with me,her, and him.thank you for the great service at baltimore museum of industry.
Superb museum, worth the price of admission.
I had a very enjoyable experience the Baltimore Museum of Industry I seen a lot there learn a lot about a lot of things that Baltimore had and was made and built-in Baltimore our state of Maryland i seen places were my parents work at and myself also it was teachable to i was with other people some thought it was going to be bored there but they really enjoyed it also that's why i said reading is fundamental you're learn something new every day.
One of my favorite museums of all time. You learn a lot about Baltimore history and it's a great place for field trips.
Totally worth the visit, very interesting!
My daughter and I had a great time looking at the history of some of the areas of Baltimore.
Though the subject matter didn't really interest me, I very much enjoyed this museum. It's affordable to visit and has several interactive features for adults and children. I would recommend a guided tour, as staff can demonstrate some of the machinery. The gift shop is fun to browse too.
Thank you to Kelley Edelmann and the team at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. We can't say enough about the AMAZING night we had for my daughter's wedding on 6-4-2021. It was just INCREDIBLE! The museum is such a cool venue for a wedding- waterfront outdoor area for a ceremony but also a magnificent floor to ceiling window wall where the ceremony could be if the weather was inclement. Zero stressing about the weather!! In the city but with a huge off street parking lot where we were able to load and unload our supplies and our guests could easily and safely park with ZERO stress! And then to top it off, Kelley Edelmann is the most professional, personable, kind and over the top helpful human you could ever want helping you plan for such a big day. She was there every step of the way and in a HUGE way the night of the wedding. We cannot say enough about Kelley and the magical night she made happen for our daughter and son-in-law and for everyone who attended! Thank you is just so insufficient, but THANK YOU!!! God bless you!
Great way to learn about Baltimore's industrial history. Check out the community sailing center next door while you are there.
This is a most understated museum. They have rooms to view as they would have been in their era. Truly this was a fascinating museum. I went to the Railroad Museum the day before and found it a good order to view both museums. Railroad then Industry museums.
Great docent and super interesting displays about the industries that helped build and sustain Baltimore communities for generations. Not crowded at all.
My son's school went for a field trip. I think the worker activity was so amazing. The kids really enjoyed it. I grew up in Baltimore and never went on this field trip. The extra perk was that our tour guide was so personable. She remembered kids name and really knew how to keep them engaged. Also, the space is gorgeous. Awesome views of the harbor. This is definitely a hidden gem for Baltimore. We need more field trips like this instead of the science center and the aquarium. I loved it.
So interesting! My husband and I have been wanting to visit for a few years and we got a Saturday together without the kids so decided to finally check it out. I have to say, I’m glad we went without the kids. It was worth the wait. There’s a few things for kids to do but not really a whole lot and I would’ve been stressed out trying to keep my toddlers from touching all the things. Plus, it was fun to be able to take our time and really read everything with no distraction!
These were some of the coolest pieces of art I had seen in a long while.
The Baltimore Museum of Industry is a hidden gem sitting in plain view along Key Highway and a good reason for people not to stop their visits at the more tourist oriented northern side of the Baltimore Inner Harbor. The combination of history and art is impressive. The recreation of stores and workshops takes the museum beyond traditional displays to helping visitors what a bakery, grocery or tailoring business was really like. Educational facilities include mini theatres and classrooms. Free parking is ample. The fact that all displays and activities are on one floor makes it easy to move around. The theme of stressing the value of work of all kinds flows throughout along with that if introducing visitors to the unique role Baltimore residents did play and continue to play in building the state and the nation.
It might not sound like an interesting museum to some people, but it is quite informative and enjoyable if you like learning about the history of industry in Baltimore. The museum is quite expansive with many attractive educational exhibits. The city and its inhabitants can brag of a lot of "firsts" in industry.
Went on a fourth grade field trip and it was very nice. The students really enjoyed being a part of the assembly line if oyster packing. It gave them real perspective on how life was life during that time period. We did not have a chance to really explore the rest of the museum, but it did look like it was informative. It's probably better for older children .
We went here for a wedding and had a great time! It's Hot in there though, be sure to dress lightly
There on a school field trip with my granddaughter. Museum is fantastic, lots of actual working displays, great history of Baltimore and the industry it once and some it still has. Displays are very professionally done. Tour guide, Miss E, was excellent!
This is a wonderful museum. I've been visiting this museum since I was a child with my school and eventually have been able to take my own son. Some exhibits change regularly, but the good ones are forever. Truly a great place to visit when in the city!
A great museum with artifacts from Baltimore's history. Reasonably priced, free off street parking and interactive exhibits great for kids. If you are visiting Baltimore and don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get in the Aquarium, definitely check this place out.
Fantastic museum bringing history and curiosity together that truly creates a worth while attraction in the Baltimore area. Many of the machines still work today and many are showcased at the weekend. Worth every dime. Put aside about 3 hours if your curiosity likes to come out and play.
...first time visit, friendly staff, great service, delicious food.
I went on a field trip with an elementary school. The kids had fun I just think the one rotation would have been a better experience for the kids with someone else running it.
I was actually the many months ago. This time I was just passing by on one of my daily urban treks (hikes). Yet, the last time I did visit the Museum it was a bit overwhelming, in a good way, as the was so, so much to see and experience. It's definitely a Museum in Baltimore which requires more than one visit to "experience it all".
Excellent. Be sure to check out the printing room.
James & staff gave Wonderful, Patient, Speedy Customer Service. James deserve a raise. Pleasure for my first time & teachable moment. 🤗 …
Loved this museum as it explores more of the industry of Baltimore and what drove the economic engine of this city past and present. The displays take you back in time and it really becomes a very entertaining learning experience.
Upon leaving you will be filled with the sights and knowledge as to the visionaries and citizens of Baltimore that made things happen.
You will not be bored here.
iv been here at least 5 times and have had the best experience ever. It is one of my favorite places to visit while in Baltimore. I have done a few fieldtrips here they are very interactive and explanatory. I would definitely recommend as a place to spend a few hours.
We went here to attend a robot competition and I'm looking to go back. Everything we have now and all the conveniences and new gadgets are a result of the Industrial Age. This museum is all about this. Displays are very interesting and relevant for all ages. Great for families. Perfect for engineering students and those that are interested in the history of technology.
This was such a fantastic museum! I truly enjoyed the interesting exhibits and rich Maryland history. The audio tour was informative too.
Excellent museum, highly recommend what other reviewers have suggested with getting a guided tour. Fair pricing and you're close enough to Baltimore to grab lunch after. Parking is free and ample. I would say we spent about 2.5 hours there and that was plenty but you could spend more.
Nice and VERY interactive museum, taking you through the history and development of the rich industrial sector of Baltimore. I recommend taking at least 2 hours to visit the place - as i arrived one hour before they closed and i missed few exhibitions.
Amazing way to spend the day. So much interesting information. Hands on stuff for kids.
Make sure you pick up the IPods at the front desk that are free with admission they add to the experience.
Saturday demonstrations and hands on workshops for the kids. Great place!
This is a gem attraction. So much to see & experience. Do check out the Baltimore harbor movie besides the ticket booth. This movie sets the historical context of the exhibits you will see in this museum. Allow 2-3 hours. Good for kids, grades 4 & up.
Great museum for local history. More geared towards older children or adults that can read. Not a lot of hands on or touch things. Younger kids have the weekend worker program and a few play boxes throughout museum. The museum's 4th of July event is worth the price. Dj, crafts, food trucks, and am amazing view of the harbor fireworks.
Wonderful museum! It was far more than I expected. Having recently been to the Smithsonian, I'd say that the displays here are better in that they are more approachable and more can be learned from them. We took the guided tour on Sunday, June 18 and the tour guide was wonderful, showing us demonstrations of several of the working items they had. I'd definitely recommend a visit.
Lots of good, informative displays about life and work in Baltimore, mostly in the 1800s and early 20th century. Lots of good hands-on stuff for the kids. It’s an odd museum in that there seems to be a lot of wasted/underused space in places, while other areas are really packed. The working boat is a highlight if you can make it for that. Admission isn’t cheap, but still it’s a fun place to take the kids.
Surprisingly good museum. Something for everyone. Great history of baltimore region through history. Clean interesting exhibits, easy to read and understand displays. Budget 2 hours total for full experience. We will be back!
A good value, helpful staff and centered on themes often neglected by other museums. I am always blown away by how big and heavy the hardware of the industrial revolution was -- it's pretty cool to see it up close.
There is a lot of description, yet there were numerous objects where my young kids were asking, "How did this work?" Or "what did this do?" I often could not answer. On the one hand, that's the point of the museum. On the other hand, I hope the curator can fill in some more of those blanks in the future.
Although a small-sized museum, the artifacts and information displayed truly bring you back to the industrial ages. Upon hearing the name of this museum, I thought I wouldn't be impressed and would be bored, but I could not have been more wrong! I loved every bit of this museum and all that it had to offer. Must visit!
Great exhibits an enjoy
A leaning experience
Fantastic venue for events such as weddings.
Great view of Baltimore harbor.
Awesome museum that gets should get more love! They have great curated exhibits of Baltimore's industrial past, from canning factories to the corner stores that fed those factory workers. The temporary exhibits (like Abandoned America) are thought provoking and worth making the trip again and again.
We were looking for low-cost things to do while in Baltimore for a weekend. I heard about this place and thought it'd be a perfect way to spend an afternoon. I was right! We did the tour - I highly recommend doing the tour - and learned so much more than we would have if we had just read the signs on our own. I particularly loved the printing press part of the tour & museum since I'm a graphic designer. The parking is free, which is a great thing since most places in Inner Harbor require paying for either street or garage parking. The absolute only downside was the lack of a cafeteria of some sort. There was, I think, a single vending machine. We would have stayed longer if we could have grabbed a quick bite to eat while there.
Free parking. Fun for kids and adults. A lot of hands on exhibits and information. Everything is densely packed into one floor or busy and interwoven stations and rooms. Printing and blacksmithing demonstrations are a favorite. The new video game exhibit allows people to create a few levels of a playable video game. No eatery, but there's a room you can snack or have your lunch in. Inexpensive compared to a lot of things downtown. Membership is a good value and there's reciprocity with other historical museums. Recommend combining the visit with a trip to the farmer's market under the covered pavilion next door on Saturday morning (summer).
The museum is underrated. It is like a huge attic full of American history. To be honest it feels so much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside like a Tardis turned into a museum. I could have spent all day there and maybe come back another day just to finish it all off. Well worth the visit for both children and adults. Almost like a huge flea market - just full of old machinery, farming equipment, and signs. IT is the history of industry in solid form!
This museum is a rather strange experience. While it is entitled the Museum of Industry, many of Baltimore's well known industries are glossed over, like steel production, and instead focuses are shifted to things like canning, (which is cool) and some somewhat random exhibits on videos and such when I visited. The exhibits tend to be rather Eurocentric as well.
The more obscure focus really helps to demystify some of the history of Baltimore, but still leaves you needing more.
The place makes a great event space, too!
Excellent museum tour! I came in from New York to visit family in Baltimore. We first went to Aquarium but didn't enjoy it so much and then we searched for other attractions and found the Baltimore Museum of Industry. The price is reasonable and the tours are excellent. Gabi our tour guide was very informative and she used machines that haven't been used for 100 years! There was also a man named Mr A who used to be in charge of printing presses for newspapers before computers. He even made me a custom made printing press stamp with my name on it!
This place is a must see especially with the tour and if you appreciate America and the hard work put in to build this country's working class and economy.
Visited the museum from out of town. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that. If you're local it is worth a visit. It likely takes most 2 hours or less, but if you read every sign like me then closer to 3 hours. It would make a great date paired with dinner after. Those who are in engineering or in manufacturing will enjoy themselves.
We took a visiting family member, a four year old and a year old with us and had a blast. We made other family members so jealous with photos we sent that they are asking to go when they next visit us. It is worth the time and money. They also often have Groupons so look there first.
A great museum with loads of information about the industrial and economic history of the Baltimore area from the 18th century. Panels, self guided or museum tours, and interactive exhibits and workshops make this place a go to destination in the Baltimore or D.C. The staff is very friendly, and the BMI is also very affordable. I really liked this museum.
A nice little museum, very interesting for history buffs.
Really great place to learn about local history!
My corporation has rented the entire museum several times for parties with access to the whole museum. The facilitates are very nice, modern, and roomy. Not being from Baltimore, I was able to get a feel for Baltmore industry history. It is a nice place to visit and we have been back to visit on our own.
Such a hidden gem! This museum is chock full of expertly curated artifacts showing the history of industry in Baltimore. They have everything from a room filled with antique cars to a print shop to a metal smithing shop. However, the absolute best feature of this museum is how interactive it is. They have a cadre of volunteers who actually are engaging in the various work that they show. On the day that I was there, a man was banging away at a piece of molten metal. We got to chat with him about how he learned his craft and what he was making. The print shop had two volunteers inside. First, we got to see an older machine at work, where each letter had been individually positioned. Then we were escorted to a linotype machine. We were shown how the entire thing worked, and then I got to give it a try! Despite being a little scared of a machine that contained liquid metal, I managed to type out my name (skills, I know). Then we printed it onto a bookmark, and he let me keep the metal stamp with my name on it - very cool! The guys there love to talk, and there is a ton to see. I didn't even have time to see all of the rooms while I was there. I will definitely have to go back to see the rest of the museum!
We had such a great time! First we took a guided tour and learned about the oyster industry, the canning business, poor working conditions, the Baltimore fire, and so much more! We were allowed to touch certain items and see some older machinery function. After, we took the self guided tour, which included the tv station, automobiles, pharmacy and general store which houses numerous McCormick products. There's also ducks outside and an interesting statue that's just gigantic. Plenty of fun for young and old alike!
I've taken my students to the BMI for three years now and absolutely love it. It's always so organized and easy to follow their schedule. The employees are friendly and engaging. I love learning new things every time I go!
Got a group on thinking my dad would enjoy this place, and we could drag along. But my sister and I ended up really liking this place. Free parking with a nice view of the water and the Dominoes Sign, they said it was fine for us to leave the car there while we walked to other places ( the visionary art museum is a short walk away, just park off to the side and leave before closing time). The way the place is set up is basically a bunch of different totally themed rooms you walk into and explore. from a corner store, pharmacy, black smith, theater and more. They had people who can explain the rooms to you and do demonstrations of the black smith work and printing press (you can take home printing samples, including a calendar) I liked the room showing pictures of places in Baltimore through out the years side by side with modern pictures. Neat to see the changes and development. No places to eat, but they do have a room with a vending machine and tables. Also have a really cool exhibit on the video game industry in Baltimore where you can go station to station creating your own video game.
Good collection of memorabilia from Baltimore and early industrial machines. Some demonstrations of machinery from ages past. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I have always loved folk art, outsider art and art that can't be found in most museums. My only quibbles are that the ticket price is a bit high and the main exhibition tends to stay up for one year. I love the gift shop.
It is a very small museum with great visuals and hands on exhibits showing the history of the workforce in Baltimore during the 19th century. There are tables and other areas where people can use to eat meals. You would need to bring your own meals but there is a vending machine. There is a floor to ceiling window facing the Chesapeake Bay giving visitors a full view in which they can enjoy. It is a great place for all ages to explore and learn about the different kinds of jobs during the Industrial Age.
Extremely interesting! We wish we had allocated more time here. The tour was great with examples and demonstrations of what laborers were doing during the industrial revolution! Come on a Saturday morning and you can visit the farmers market beforehand!
Awesome jem in B-more. Safe, fun, educational, blast from the past with harbor history, old canning building. Staff professional and local, they take pride being there too. No Aquarium lines and CLEAN inside and outside. Great views too....free parking!
Wonderful Museum to visit,!! It is small but full of interesting handicrafts to entertain kids. Will definitely go back there with my family and friends to have a fun exploration.
I could live here. No, really, I could. As someone who loves and collects industrial vintage (1940s fruit crates, and 1930s fans, for instance), this is walk-in wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities) of the best kind, and I'd happily live with most of the exhibits in my home. I'm grateful to see the industrial history of Baltimore on display. Museums like the Walters are luscious and saturated with an aura of wealth, if you like luscious and wealthiness, but I'll take a little grit and working class any day, thanks. At $35 a year, a basic membership was a no-brainer. Would definitely take visiting friends and family here. I've found my new favorite museum!
Nice medium sized museum with fun interactive and full room displays.
It was lovely. I went and they had an old printing press which for some strange resonance I thought was the most interesting part. I have seen a couple of schools doing field trips there so it’s kid friendly
It was a pleasure finally being able to visit this museum and being able to reminisce. Even my son said that it was cool hearing me talk about how I remembered many of the items on display from my childhood.
Great museum, strongly recommend to take a guiding tour, without it a lot of thing you will never figure out, it is free with admission. Our guide was mr. Green, we loved it!!! We'll definitely come back in there, awesome place!
What a fun museum! It seems like it might often be overshadowed by some of Baltimore's and DC's more prominent museums, but we had a great visit. I took my adolescent son and he spent a lot of time trying to figure out what various contraptions and machines were for and how they worked. The museum has several permanent exhibits showcasing parts of Baltimore's industrial history, but also rooms with roaming exhibits. The canning exhibit had great machines to learn about. I also loved the sewing and cutting room discussing textiles in Charm city. We both loved the huge printing exhibit and the docent with career experience explaining how the various machines work. We even got to use the Linotype machine and print something. My son also enjoyed the videogame exhibit and the chance to customize his own videogame ad he learned about various jobs in gaming. It's affordable and doable in a few hours.
It is cool to see and all. I don't get the beauty of Baltimore Harbor though. The subtle droning of gun shots and sirens kind of kills the vibe. I think prior to the city being run into the ground and the harbor being filled with medical waste it was pretty cool. Don't get me wrong though.. if you're stuck in Baltimore for some reason this is a pretty neat thing to check out between ER visits for gun shot and/or stab wounds.
Baltimore is a helluva city with so much history. I find the Baltimore Museum of Industry incredibly interesting and educational. I especially enjoyed sharing the experience with my family and give them a sense of where they live.
I went to this museum for a work sponsored event and everything about it was great!!!
Very unique and locally relevant museum! Interesting for tourists or locals. Staff was friendly and costs were low. Definitely the best (non free) museum per dollar I've been to.
This is a great small museum. It provides the history of Baltimore industry in a fun and interactive way. My 8 year old grandson loved it.
What a nice place. They have put all technical and industrial information in a very well organized manner together. It could be a great eye opening for the right person who is interesed in science and expandigy his horizon. I hightly recommend to visit this place and spend the whole day to study each step. It would indeed expand your horizon and would be fruitful for your business.
I was here for a Christmas party - the company had rented the facility for the evening. Varied and interesting machines, products, and exhibits that showcase U.S. production prowess during the last century. Live demonstration of the machine shop was the highlight of the tour.
I grew up in Baltimore and my family goes back several generations. This place makes me feel such love for a city that is seriously struggling right now. It has struggled before, and it will pull through again. So many firsts occured in Baltimore, and the BMI is faithfully holding on to an amazing historical record!
Great Experience. Went to a wedding there and a field trip with my children. Each time was an educational trip into the past. The kids say it was one of the best field trips they have ever been on.
If you like industry and Baltimore this place is for you! My kids go on regular feild trips hwre and I always chaperone, when I was listening to the tour guide he not only knew how all the canning machines worked he used to work there when it was a factory!!!
It is an awesome museum to visit, small but full of interesting artifacts to entertain kids. Will definitely go back there with my kids to have a fun exploration.
Fascinating place to explore with the most iconic references and displays. It was a pleasure to discuss our industry timeline with my granddaughter, and relish my girlhood memories of days past...beautiful@
My 24 year old son Brady Buckland and myself went to the Museum of Industry and we learned things about Baltimore that I did not know at all! Which I am a fax person so that is hard to do but anybody, anybody can go there and have a great time and learned a boatload of stuff about Baltimore at the same time. I suggest it for all ages whether male or female. And also tell them somebody from Baltimore suggested you go there. The history and that place is amazing
Fun little museum where you walk through the history of our most important industrial inventions. My friend and I went together as two adults and really enjoyed it, but it looks very kind friendly too, lots to see and touch
Super cool! My cousin had their wedding there and it was awesome! Being able to take a break from drinking and dancing to wall out on the docks was so great!
Small but packed with information and awesome machines! Would definitely come again. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. And the view of the harbor cannot be beat.
Brought a friend here who was visiting the stats, he loved it.
Wishthey would have a cafe or something for quick bites.Raymond, the volunteer who works at Print shop was such an invaluable asset to this place, he's been in the prin business for over 50 years! ;-)
Great place! They hosted a children's entrepreneur fair that was awesome! Can't wait to attend this event next year. What an awesome thing for Baltimore!
My wife and I live in Baltimore City and we wanted to get married downtown so all of our friends and relatives could get a sense of our life together. After searching many of the great venues around the inner harbor, we fell in love with the BMI for it's unique and fun atmosphere.
Everyone had such a blast at the wedding and we are still getting compliments from our guests. The museum offers so many interesting things to see which allowed us to decorate sparingly. The location was perfect, including the outdoor patio right on the harbor with the baltimore skyline in the background. At one point, we were taking pictures outside at night and the famous baltimore pirate ship sailed past which provided many great pictures. There is also a small boutique movie theater at the museum that we used to play a home video compilation of my wife and I growing up, which was really neat.
The staff was very helpful, especially Claire. Our original plan was to hold the cocktail hour outside on the patio but we had to change plans when it rained 3 inches on our wedding day. Thankfully, they opened up the back transportation gallery at the last minute free of charge and allowed us to hold the cocktail hour inside. They were so accommodating and we can not thank them enough. Also, the price is very reasonable compared to other downtown wedding venues.
The BMI will always hold a special place in our hearts and we cannot recommend the BMI enough for your wedding or any other special event.
Kind of a strange museum, with some exhibits that seem sort of thrown together. The space is awesome, though, and you can't beat that view of the skyline across the harbor. Excellent venue for events.
Great collection of antique machinery.
A lot of very intetesting exhibits in a relatively small building. Many activities for little ones. My kids didnt want to go in, but once inside they had a blast and want to go back.
I never realized Baltimore was such a manufacturing town.
Very nice museum. They specialize in displaying the industrial past of the Baltimore area. They don't change the show much, but it is certainly worth one visit.
Very interesting museum. Think it is better suited to bigger kids and adults. They did have a few activities that younger kids may enjoy.
BMI is one of my favorite places in Baltimore City. It is an incredible tribute to the history of our City. If you haven't been there, be sure to check it out, you won't be disappointed.
Beautiful venue for events.
Not huge but very interesting to learn more of the industrial history of the harbor. The outside exhibits and the view of the harbor were equally impressive.
A little jewel of a museum with well-curated exhibits, excellent docents and live crafstmen, all focused on past and current Baltimore industries and inventions. During our visit, we watched a blacksmith at work and met Raymond Loomis, who has worked a Linotype machine for his entire career and who helped a visitor volunteer create a line of type on the machine and print her name. The machine is an insanely well engineered machine invented in Baltimore in the 1880s. Go visit, and ask for Mr. Loomis!
Have been to this museum few times. It is located in downtown Baltimore with free parking facility. It has an ample space to host holiday parties for corporates.
Interesting, well presented, fun museum. Good for anyone - kids, adults, seniors. We also enjoyed the string of documentaries in the small cinema.
Great experience for the kids!!
The BMI is a fascinating testimony to "real Baltimore" — the working class muscle of the Mid-Atlantic. I knew of some of the inventions the world owes to Baltimore — the beer and soda bottle cap, those blue-bottled nostrums Noxzema and Bromo-Seltzer — and I knew about Martin Marietta because my dad worked there. But I learned a lot about other contributions from the area, and the fact that it was home base to Bendix, the Linotype, and Black & Decker among many others. The recreations of working life in printing, automotive, the garment trade, the cannery, and the corner store make this a spectacular trip down an industrial memory lane. (I even saw a picture of my junior high cafeteria in the exhibit on school lunchrooms!)
Guided tours are informal providing a great platform to learn the most of Baltimore's industry history in a short visit. Skilled craftsman in sight to demonstrate some of the manufacturing of the nineteenth century.
They have an amazing facilities. The amount of information that they have there is innumerable. The only drawback is that there was not a lot of time in each station, but besides that, I recommend this place for anyone looking for a good learning experience.
Great museum and wonderful location for events.
It's interesting for adults, but not for young kids. I wish we could spend more time there, but they were getting ready for a private event and it was kind of uncomfortable.
I was there for a gala, didn't explore the actual museum much, but the main area is fantastic and, dare I say, cooler than steam-punk... Because it's real
Great venue for hosting events.
Awesome museum with demonstrations and a short optional tour.
Went to a beautiful wedding here. They have a private parking lot, great view, and nice bathrooms. It is definitely warm in there though!!!
I learned many things I never knew about the numerous technological inventions made in Baltimore...fascinating stuff!
A solid tribute to Baltimore's industries both past and present. Make a day out of that side of the harbor with a trip to the visionary art museum.
Was nice experience. Fun
Had our company awards banquet here and most of the exhibits were open for viewing. Interesting history of the area and want to go back when everyhing is open.
The BMI is a beautiful venue for a wedding, and their staff is second to none. We can’t say enough good things about Kelley Edelmann in particular. She was incredible to work with throughout booking the BMI, planning our wedding, and the event itself. They were able to make helpful suggestions about everything from photograph locations to processional and dance floor layouts. It was clear that Kelley and the whole BMI staff really cared and wanted to make our wedding a complete success.
Interesting stuff. History plus technology.
Great time. My one take away was a improved appreciation for the depth and breath of industry in Baltimore.
Excellent museum with lots of exhibits. There was a free tour we took.
We went there after close for a work party. The exhibits were interesting and it seemed like they had new things since we had been there a couple of years ago.
The staff in the print shop showed visitors the old printing presses and gave hands on demonstrations of the old typesetting machines. Got a guided tour, guide was very knowledgeable, very interesting
I was here for a wedding. I had never been here before, but it's a beautiful location for a wedding.
Visited for an after hours event and this is a great hands on museum with incredible volunteers. Also great locale for an event! Great location on the inner harbor.
Was only able to get there an hour before the museum closed, but it was definitely worth it! Lots to see and do, will certainly come back to properly see it all!
We had our wedding there what a beautiful experience😊💍💯🎉🎊💞 …
Wonderful exhibits that honor Baltimore's significant industrial history. From canning of oysters to printing; umbrella, auto, steel, aircraft manufacturing; oil companies; B&O Railroad; Old Bay, Noxema, BG&E, Black & Decker, Bendix and much more. Baltimore was a manufacturing and industrial powerhouse and you can learn all about it at the BMI.
Great place to host a wedding. Staff is fantastic and the view is phenomenal! Super easy to work with.
Enjoyed my time here on our school trip. Very well put together n the tour guides are very friendly.
Fascinating museum to visit. You could get lost in all the exhibits for hours. Well worth your time to see this.
I've not toured the museum,i take classes there but I've seen what there is to see from the outside. It's worth the trip. I plan to take a tour in the near future.
Nice venue for an anniversary part. The food wasn't good but I guess that's not their fault. Beautiful harbor views!
Attended wedding here, awesome venue with harbour view and it's own parking. Great displays of Maryland industrial history.
Really cool place. I love the industrial revolution and seeing the way things were done before. Really cool and definitely worth the visit.
This is one of the most underrated museums in Baltimore. Good place to budding bring kids for lessons on the city's past.
A very interesting museum with lots of different topics. You don't see many museums of industry around and it's a cool idea
A unique find in Baltimore and well worth the visit for kids and adults alike. Fascinating history of the industries in and around Baltimore.
Very interesting place. Well worth going. Especially if you like history and you have kids
It's not a huge museum, but the exhibits are nice and it's a great place for kids' parties. They even have a movie theater!
Not well known gem in Baltimire. Small museum with a lot of great Baltimore machine history. Excellent for school groups
Awesome museum, lots if really cool things on it and a great gift shop with local artist work in it.
I like the exhibits describing Baltimore's industrial history, but they aren't kept up-to-date. For example, Lyons left Owings Mills years ago.
Amazing experience. I enjoyed the historical showcases. And the view was absolutely incredible! I enjoyed the food as well.
I Will back again, EXCELLENT
Very interesting tour and very funny. So many things to discover. I would not recommend if you visit it with very you by child.
Something interesting on a rainy day
Gives a nice feel for what industrial Baltimore was like. A little light on exhibits. Was filled with school groups during my visit.
As a spot to go watch fireworks on the Fourth of July it's an easy FIVE stars for sure - awesome view up close right on the waterfront.
It's kind of small and personally, I'm just not interested in industrial history. Had to go for a school trip haha. Anyway though, it's probably interesting if you're into that kind of stuff.
Neat little museum - interesting to see how much industry started in Baltimore. Also used as an event space because of the window overlooking the harbor.
Came for our friends' wedding today. The venue was beautiful and the staff was attentive and great. Highly recommend!
This is a pretty cool museum/venue. Or friends had their wedding and reception here and it was very nice.
School field trip here was very informative. Learned a lot about U.S. industrial life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Field trip with my child's 7th grade class. I find the industrial era to be fascinating and really enjoyed the museum.
Gun visually interesting museum. The entire building adds context to the industrial history for the city of Baltimore.
Great museum. Never even heard of it but saw it on a Web site. Lots of really good exhibits.
The oyster exhibit was interesting since my great grampa lived near here and did that his whole life
Good exhibits. Informative friendly staff. Good hands-on activities for students on a field trip.
very cool
Got 30 tacos, 10 chicken, 10 steak, and 10 fish for a work meeting. The guys destroyed them. We will definitely be going back!
Go here when the volunteer for the printing press is there. That was the best part of this museum.
This place is super cool! I was here for a wedding reception and enjoyed all of the displays and history kept here.
Love the old history of Baltimore
Great museum!
Interesting for adults. Lots of hands on activities for kids.

Located in an old cannery, this beautiful museum charts the history of business and technology in Baltimore. Fascinating.

Wonderful view of harbor. Great place to hold an event or schedule a school visit.
Never been and it is a very nice museum and the location is awesome.
Really nicely done museum. Lots of cool restored machines. Good for kids.
Seems like the new changes may do wonders for the Buffalo peer. Many people opposed the new construction but the majority we're enthused
Great place to learn some of America's history. Had a student discount for me. Interesting stuff.
What a collection of the tech that made Baltimore great. Enjoy it before it's turned into an apartment building. It's bound to happen.
This is really neat Museum! There's a lot of Baltimore history there! I will be back in the near future.

A neat place to learn about all the industries that started in Baltimore and the surrounding areas that shaped the harbor and employed the population.
Great space for your wedding! Decibull Entertainment provided an outstanding DJ For the event!
Was slightly disappointed. We went on a school trip. Paid 20.00 each for child and 20.00 for adult. The guides who showed us around seemed tired.
If you are in the area this is a great way to spend some time. I enjoyed it more than I was expecting. I would definatly ho back.
Cool museum with very interesting exhibits. Wonderful place to spend a few hours.
Great place to take kids. Lots of fun. Old machines from different times
