I’ve studied the Br’er Rabbit stories over the course of my entire life, and at 32 years old this was like a pilgrimage. Disney has done these stories dirty as there had been too much misinformation around these stories. Here is an ideal place to educate oneself about the tales from not only the docents that work there but also from the storytellers. All the staff was truly welcoming and attentive, answering questions not to mention allowing us to stay the entire day. They were enthusiastic about answering questions as well as openly discussing the controversy. The storytellers also were informative, welcoming, and willing to discuss the meaning behind the Br’er Rabbit tales. This place is worth your time and questions. It is worth your fact checking and your efforts to truly educate yourself (Twitter is NOT an education folks). Everyone who works here were incredible and thank you for having me and my partner.

A museum that allows you to dig into the history of the west end area. They are dedicated to informing people of the “Uncle Remus” folklore.
Check out the owl sitting in the corner of the museum.

I had a damn great time watching live jazz bands perform. Especially my favorite singer and actress Chandra Currelley from the movie Diary of A Mad Black Woman. Y'all don't know what y'all missed! I had a blast! Atlanta knows how to party!!!💖💯 …

Wren's Nest host a variety of events on their lawn. One event in attendance was Jazz Matters. Jazz Matters was presented by Smooth Jazz 101.1 WJZA-FM and sponsored by George and Janice Andrews of Capital City Bank. The lawn is emmaculate and a could hold up to to 500 attendees. The event had various seating arrangements of formal 10-seat tables, park benches and BYOC (bring your own chair). Parking is available near the facility. Vendors were present. Three restroom stalls were available. The only night lighting was from stage, which was great if you were close. Attendees would have to bring some type of lighting apparatus for tables, etc. Duke Ellington's presence will never evaporate in jazz and his renderings are timeless-great musicans were present. One of the event artists had mesmorized the crowd with Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass and Larry Graham.

Before disney co-opted these stories, JCH shared them with the world after learning them firsthand. It's worth a visit if you enjoy folk tales and history. Story time is at 1:00 every Saturday. Staff was incredibly gracious. Got to meet a couple of the story tellers afterwards. Thought it would be full of kids but it was actually adults for the most part - a plus in my book!

Such a beautiful, historic site. Thankful they’re still requiring masks and looking out for their most vulnerable patrons. Felt super safe and welcomed.

A perfect hidden hidden gem in the West End area. Mom would take me there for story hour years ago, but now as a grown women I found Jazz Matters there. A place where friends and lovers gather for great music under the stars. A Amphitheater, bring your food, drinks and get ready to have a wonderful time.

August 16, 2019 was absolutely phenomenal I went there for a jazz concert it was so organized everyone was so friendly. You bring your own food your own beverages they provide you with the tables and chairs. You can bring your own chairs no umbrellas no tints of course if you do that people can't see the concert because of obstacles I do agree with that. My children are 35 and 37 now they grew up with me taking them to the Wren's Nest for storybook time we still have the books practically one called Uncle Remus. Thank you for a beautiful time at the Wren's Nest.
I recommend if you haven't gone there that you do. Look up and read the history.

I went here with my siblings and we had such a great time. The story telling was amazing!! My little one was giggling and having so much fun. We came for the Smithsonian museum free museum promotion, but we'll definitely be back!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience with us!!

We went for the Christmas Carol Experience, so different than your typical visit. The show was really great, intimate, interactive and fun. Highly recommend. You walk into/through most of the lower level rooms during the performance, but I was too involved in the activities to truly notice and appreciate the architecture of the home. Beware, the parking is very limited and mostly pea gravel, so you will have some ruts, mud and puddles if it has been raining. The house is basically in the middle of retail shops, so you have to keep your eyes peeled if the street is busy or at night. We look forward to going back in the day time.

I LOVED my experience! We had Curtis Richardson as our storyteller and he created such an amazing experience. The way he told the stories--with facial expressions and gestures-- really helped me to "see" each character. I especially loved how he changed his voice for them! When he voiced the water buffalo, I could visualize this immense animal, and when he did the hyena I could visualize that too. It reminded me of the Lion King! I absolutely loved that after our story we enjoyed a refreshingly informative tour. I sincerely appreciated our tour guide giving us all the wonderful details about life during the time Harris lived, as well as information regarding the house's cool furniture and architecture. I say "cool" because being in the same house, seeing the same furniture that existed and was used so long ago made me feel as though I had actually time traveled. The Wren's Nest is definitely a wonderful experience.

Awesome historic museum ! I was part of the restoration team for one room. I was amazed, enjoyed every step and the sound of the wooden floor; antiques, pictures, everything has a story to tell.

We went here for the Poe Experience but instructions were unclear and we missed part of the skits because of it. Although the actors were decent the writing could have used some work and the ad-lib didn't live up to expectations. It is fun for the atmosphere but the cost was too much for what we got.

Went to see Chante Moore and had a great time. It was easy parking and walking to and from the venue. Also went for movie night and it was somewhat empty but the kids had a great time. They toured the house to see the history captured in times.
Highly recommend

I visited the Wren’s Nest for a class I am taking. I chose to visit there as opposed to the High or some of the other more well-known places on the list, and I am so glad I did! It was very interesting to see all of the original items in the house. Carla was who gave me the tour and even though it was only me, she provided me with every detail and spent just as much time with me as she would have had it been a large group. She was so awesome and made the experience even more great! If you go, hopefully Carla will be the one to give the tour!

This was an interesting find in the historic West End neighborhood. The tour cost $5 and lasted for roughly 15 minutes. The tour is self guided with volunteers available to answer questions. It was great seeing a home built in the 1800's and seeing the home of a literary pioneer. All of the home is nit available to tour however what is available I found it to be sufficient. I would recommend this tour if you are in the area.

I went for the Saturday storytelling and house tour, and was delighted far beyond my expectations. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and unhurried. The storyteller was jawdroppingly good. The tour guide radiated with love for the building and its former occupants. I highly recommend a visit on Saturday when the storyteller is there.

Very nice intimate venue. Food vendor offering take away plates at an excellent price. Outdoor venue with free parking, bring your own food, chairs, tables, coolers. Tables with chairs are available for an additional price of course. The admittance fee is quite affordable. Upscale port of Johns were clean with inside lighting and sanitizer. A very cool place to hang out. The performance was excellent. The entertainers would probably appreciate some fans blowing....this is HOTLANTA😎

Yes, you are at the right spot. No, this is not somebody's random family reunion 🤣🤣
We had a wonderful time here when the West End put on one of their candle light concerts with Eric Roberson performing. Walking into the Wren's Nest back yard really does look like your going to the cook-out at the family reunion, but that's all part of the charm. There is such a homey vibe here. I felt like I found a piece of true (old) Atlanta. I will definitely be back.

I went there, when I was in elementary school. That was in the mid 90's. My great Grandmother use to tell me the stories of Uncle Remus, and Brer Rabbit. It's been over ten years since I've been to The Wren's House. I'd love to go back and show my daughter.

The five-star rating is definitely true. Not just as a location that's worth visiting (it is), but when you learn more about the positive community impact that are making through various programs and involvement. The relatively young, very enthusiastic staff make this place an interesting juxtaposition of history with forward-thinking ideas.
Louise ODea
Had a wonderful talk and tour with the docent. Learned a lot about Joel Harris, his home, his background and what inspired his stories of Brent Rabbit and Uncle Remus. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

Attended the 105th annual holiday party. It was a great mix of history, music, storytelling etc. You will learn so much about the history of Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus tales. Much misaligned during recent years, his tales were actually quite instrumental in forging new ground in familiarizing cultures with each other in the post Civil War era. Google maps WILL NOT take you into the parking lot. Coming down Lowery into West End the driveway is immediately after the house. Basically when you see St Anthony of Padua's church on the left the house is half a block down on the left. It has a small parking area that is mostly dirt/grass. Keep this in mind in inclement weather!

Had a great time at the Edgar Allan Poe Experience. It was well acted, well put together. Also, had a crush on the main doctor
Howard Kass
Interesting history about Joel Chandler Harris, the writer who committed the Brer Rabbit stories to paper.
Sad to see this museum struggling. They clearly need funding to catch up on their deferred maintenance.

This is one of many of Atlanta's old early 20th century homes. This home once belonged to Uncle Remus, author of works like "The Tar Baby" and "Brer Rabbit". This hone is now a museum and plays host to a number of events, including a Gatsby Lawn Party (which was the purpose of my visit).
TJ Dorsey
