This outdoor museum is wonderful. I took my 86 year-old dad there and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Those that volunteer at this museum have years of experience in aviation and have experience in a variety of areas in aviation. They kindly took us around in a golf cart and showed us the planes, giving us insightful details about the planes. On 1 cargo plane you can go inside. My dad can walk up a few stairs but if you are unable to walk, you can still see inside the cargo area of the plane. If you can walk up the stairs, you can see and sit in the cockpit seats. This place is a hidden gem and I hope to take my dad again.

Wonderful place! I visited yesterday, after living in the area my whole life and not knowing this was here. It's tucked away on the Lockheed plant base. It's an open air museum, aka outdoors. There are currently 15 planes to view, each with a placard with information. The tours are self-guided unless you book as a group. There is one plane you can tour, the largest of the collection, and there is a guide on that plane to offer a lot of information as you make your way thru the cargo hold and into the cockpit. I learned a lot about not only the planes, but also the museum.
For everyone who gave bad reviews, I specifically made a cash donation on behalf of you and read your ridiculous reviews to the staff as I did. They enjoyed the laugh. Yes it's old planes - It's a museum. No they don't control the weather in an outdoor museum. Sure you can say it's an odd collection, as all the planes have been donated. Not exactly sure why someone would give a bad review stating the reason is because they aren't a fan of aviation - it's an aviation museum. For those leaving bad reviews due to the $5 admission donation, this is a volunteer organization with donated planes. They must pay for upkeep, restoration, and transportation to get the planes to the base. Not all can be flown, so they must pay for other transportation. They are currently working towards adding a museum indoor facility on site, so your admission fee goes toward that also. I definitely received more than $5 of information and thrill exploring these great aircraft and honoring those who flew them. I am appreciative of the veterans and volunteers who were on site yesterday to help me learn more. I will return and bring friends with me. This is a wonderful local treasure to share.

We had an awesome time here looking at the military planes. They had ~15 planes and other related things to look at. Everyone was super welcoming and knowledgeable about the planes and their history and we even got to explore inside one of them. My dad and I had a great time walking around and talking to the people here. Definitely worth a visit.

Cool little museum that I didn't expect to find. Almost like planes that were left in a parking lot, or old gate guards put together. The only C141B that you can get on the flight deck. The place looks like it has a lot potential and it will be interesting to see it grow, Atlanta needs a good airplane museum.

A fantastic place, so friendly and helpful! We spent almost two hours here, with a tour guide on hand (or not if you don’t want). They were great with our children and answered hundreds of questions from them. We all had a great time and would definitely recommend this for an adventure trip!
Joseph Shakal
Small area of older military aircraft. Guides are excellent. We can sit in the cockpit of the ol C141 and touch the controls a little bit.
Ronn Alford
Well informed, courteous staff at this outdoor museum. GPS took to the wrong place... had to go around and approach from what seemed to be the back side, but we'll worth the effort
Marco Ciavolino
This is a great example of a local government/private partnership that allows a group of dedicated veterans to maintain these aircraft on land provided by the county and the base. For $5 you can get up close to some great aircraft.
Keith S.
The aircraft static displays were nice and some rare that I have not seen at other museums. To name one in particular, the C141 Star Lifter was amazing and the guide was a retired Air Force Vietnam era veteran and new the aircraft well. Going in and up to the cockpit in the C141 and knowing the history of this aircraft was a highlight. Will bring grandkids next..
todd bennett
I took my grandsons, age 5 and 10. We all three definitely enjoyed seeing the planes and talking with the veterans there that gave us information about the aircraft and conversed with us. It doesn't hardly cost anything and it is really awesome. I definitely recommend going. God bless.
Shaun Dobbs
Very cool outdoor museum with a great assortment of aircraft!

This museum was formerly named The Aviation Wing, and is now known as the Aviation History and Technology Center.
The AHTC is absolutely a gem. It is easy to drive past this museum off Atlanta Street just south of Cobb Drive and mistake it for being part of Lockheed or the broader Dobbins complex. Instead, this is in fact a very special aviation museum that is open to the public. Don't worry - even though it's adjacent to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, you won't have to actually enter the secure perimeter to get to the museum!
At the south end is an aircraft and memorial garden where you will find well-preserved examples of public favorites such as the F-14 Tomcat of Top Gun fame, the A-6 Intruder of the eponymous Flight of the Intruder (this particular airframe once served as the gate guard of the now defunct Dobbins Naval Air Station), the S-3 Viking, and an A-4 Skyhawk.
You'll see the first of the bizjets, Lockheed's own JetStar, which rather uncommonly had four rear-mounted engines. In more normal, non-COVID impacted times you are permitted to tour the interior of the plane and see how the early jet setters traveled in style, long before it became trendy for social media "influencers" to have their pictures taken inside aircraft fuselage mockups before they hop into their basic economy middle seats bound for wherever they're headed to take more selfies.
To the north you'll see the heavy iron (Editor's note - actually mostly lightweight but strong aluminum, these being aircraft) - an AC-130 gunship that is one of the museum's newest exhibits is hard to miss. But the real showpiece of the museum and what truly makes it unique is the extensively restored, four-engined Lockheed YC-141B Starlifter sitting on the northeast corner of the ramp.
The Starlifter at the museum was built at Lockheed in Marietta, and is the first airframe that was modified as the prototype B model (hence the YC model designation). Amongst other modifications the B was given an extended fuselage, and a notable hump above the cockpit that hides an inflight refueling probe. Over the course of the last decade the dedicated museum staff has lovingly and skillfully restored this aircraft into one of the finest military static displays you'll find anywhere - and that includes static displays of active aircraft such as those you'll find at air shows. Part of the cargo area is outfitted with different types of seats used in transport operations. The cockpit has been completely restored and is worth a look by pilots and aficionados alike, although at the moment (late Feb 2021) access is temporarily limited thanks once again to COVID.
There's more to see than what I outlined above, and one thing you won't find on the website is the dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced volunteer staff which in my recent visit included a genuine Top Gun naval aviator with 4000+ hours in the F-14 and a former C-141 navigator who helped oversee the masterful restoration of the museum's example.
Net, if you live in or are visiting Atlanta and have an interest in military aviation (or just think you might), the Aviation History and Technology Center in Marietta is a must-see!

Helpful staff. Self guided for the most part. Some exhibits were unmarked. I enjoyed it, but it was basically a bunch of planes without a lot of information about them, and that made learning harder.
Domingo Santiago
Awesome time with the family! Love listening to the tour guides. Great little trip! Plus took these awesome photos.
Robert McElveen
It looked good from outside of the fence I suppose. Website says closed at 5pm, arrived at 4:25pm and the gate is locked up. Looked like a small group was doing a tour, maybe this is a one person show. Maybe next time!
Shaundalin Pollard
Small and outdoors, great place for a quick get away, especially with covid. Plenty of cool aircrafts. The prices were also very fair.
Pigeon Hobby
I had great times there. Got to listen to some of the pilots there and their experiences. Went inside one of the big aircraft and that was great experience as well. As a pilot, it's great to see the other side of aviation which is military. I highly recommend that you take a visit
C Zack
Incredible to see these planes up close and read their detailed histories. The volunteers are amazing in their dedication to preserve them. Their knowledge and personal memories absolutely make this a must-do visit for anyone interested in aviation and our country’s history.

An all outdoor "aviation museum" right next to Lockheed Martin factory. Greeted and given tour by 3 amazingly kind and knowledgeable volunteer staff - all retired military with great stories and insights. Perfect place to get fresh air and see some impressively huge planes. Picnic tables present, so next time we'll bring a snack. Two year old plane enthusiast absolutely loved it but then horrified by fake skeleton in glider plane (older 2 kids also not comfortable with swing that). Skeleton in poor taste and should be removed.
shane sawsiengmongkol
Reasonable price, informative history guided tour, the kids had a wonderful time next to these gigantic fine pieces of craftsmanship.
Gina Hernandez
This is a great place to visit with the family. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable about the planes.
Ryan Griffin
Got there a little late, but had time for the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining to boot! I loved seeing those aircraft up close after driving by them for so many years. If you've got an hour to kill, and a passing interest in aviation, it's definitely worth the $5 ticket price. 10/10 would visit again!
Nick LaPinta
Enjoyed the wings and white walls show here. A great location and the planes are soooo cool!definitely worth checking out!
AHREE HUR
Awesome place with my 21 months old son!!!also the guide was really kind!
Sydney Hiers
This museum was amazing and very inexpensive!! The volunteers are really what made this place so neat, all of the tour guides were very knowledgeable and were very patient to answer all of our questions!
Andrew “Captain” Malik
It's a nice place. Since it's it's outside, you can only go on a nice day. The only air aircraft you can enter is the C-141 (the biggest plane there)
Matt Sicignano
One of the best kept secrets in Marietta! Spectacular display of military aircraft lovingly restored by a group of dedicated passionate volunteers. They are a wealth of information and history and each of their stories make the past come to life. Over a dozen aircraft are available to view, from the giant C-130 that you can view inside and out , to the aircraft carrier fighter jets on display. You can even see Kenny Rogers private jet!
Kane Bonnette
Great open air museum for aviation enthusiasts. We went with a group and got a guided tour, which I highly recommend. Got a pic of the kid in a pilot seat with a big grin.
Joe White
Great place to see some awesome military aircraft
mikemont91
Super nice veterans - super cool planes - super cheap. Great museum!
Ken Fuller
A small collection of military aircraft but only open once or twice a week with guided tours.
Wendell Ubele
Aviation history course and a walk through of a few planes I enjoyed the personal the planes on display couple of dollars ,worth the trip.
Carolyn M
Absolutely fantastic! A former fighter pilot and Top Gun instructor gave us a fabulous tour, with lots of info and stories. Got to go into a couple of airplanes and up close and personal with the rest. Even sat in the cockpit of a Lockheed C-141! Highly recommend visiting; and also donating to this non-profit to continue showcasing aviation in Marietta!
Valeriy Shmyrov
Our group enjoyed this place. We went inside a YC-141B airplane, walked along all airplanes. Bob gave us a great tour. Thank you! We spent about 2 hours at this place.
Kenneth Huff
Nate gave myself and my buddy and his 2 small children a great, informative tour. We got to go in 2 of the planes on display and the kids loved sitting in the cockpits. $5 for adults and $3 for Kids. Definitely a fun afternoon. There's picnic tables under a huge wing if you want to bring a lunch. I'd love to be able to donate and help them further their plans.
Johnny
The collection of retired military aircraft is very interesting and just damn cool. The staff were very friendly and quite knowledgeable, and did a good job explaining different aspects of the aircraft and answering questions. As a plane lover who has a sizable base knowledge on aircraft, I still learned a fair bit here and greatly enjoyed it. Well worth the $5 entry fee!
Leonardo Rodríguez
Very friendly staff
Mandy Bright
Well worth the little bit of money it cost to get to see and touch these amazing air craft. And hear the stories of their glory days. Will be back!
Lee Pennington
The aviation wing was an excellent experience into the history of Lockheed Martin aviation. The volunteer staff of both veteran and Lockheed former employees were knowledgeable well spoken and eager to tell the history of both airplanes and jets on the exhibit and of their own stories and the places they had been. We went for the Veterans Day celebration , and they had free hamburgers for veterans and their families , there was not a large turnout so we were free to crawl into the aircraft they had open and check out everything from the Lockheed Jetstar corporate aircraft to the C-141 star lifter . I would definitely go back on a weekend that I had a couple of hours to just mail around and let the kids enjoy the sights .
Diana Pickard
Great place to take your kids. My toddler loves airplanes, and he really loved his up close and personal experience here. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. Will make any day more memorable.
Lindsey Owen
This is a great way to see military planes of the past! My 4 and 5 year old children were almost as excited as my husband! The tour guides were very knowledgeable, polite, and friendly too.
Mandy Bright
A truly unique fun experience. My boys absolutely loved learning about the different planes and getting to sit in a plane and act like a pilot. Extremely reasonably priced. I wish they could advertise more. If your just passing thru or live in the area it is well worth an hour or two of yout time to learn about these amazing planes that have traveled the world!
Morgan Green
Great museum with great attractions . You’re missing out if you haven’t been yet. What a fun way to take your family to learn about history.
Walter Koenig
I came to see the C-141B, I wasn't able to come to the dedication, from what they started with, they did a fabulous job refurbishing it, when I first walked into the fuselage of the aircraft, the smell made it seem like I had worked on the aircraft yesterday. They did a outstanding job.
Peggy Checchio
It was wonderful. Two pilots gave us a tour on the plane they flew and loved. It made the tour so much fun. It was so informative. I was so grateful for their service and great ability.

Great local aviation museum featuring several Lockheed aircraft including two Jetstars.
Benjamin Guider
I had the honor and pleasure to watch my first dedication ceremony of an airplane being placed into display and preservation at an air museum.
This is the YC-141B StarLifter. The StarLifter was the first jet powered military transport plane in the world.
Among its accolades, it was instrumental in the desegregation of the Lockhead workforce at Dobbins Air Base by making the contract contengent on the integration of the workforce.
Florian C
Very nice to bring kids but also instructive for adults. The volunteers are very kind and willing to share their stories. Thank you very much !!!

Awesome little museum with a great staff of knowledgeable folks. Mix of aircraft related to the old NAS once nearby, Lockheed aircraft from various eras, and other cool stuff from the Cold War era, including an influential early military drones. Despite the funding difficulties for small museums like this one they seem to add things on the regular; last time I went they had a new F4 simulator cockpit and a restoration underway for one of the early US jet age fighters. Can be a little tricky getting to it via Google Maps because it's up against the Lockheed property; if you're coming in from So. Cobb Dr. just stay outside the Lockheed security fence by keeping right all the way around and you'll see the museum to your right as you curve towards Atlanta Rd. Great visit for young and old and worth supporting.
