Reviews of Road To Tara Museum

Very interesting stop! If you like it appreciate the book and movie Gone with the Wind, you'll enjoy this place. Not expensive to visit the museum and it's not too big so you really only need maybe an hour to 90 minutes to view. I appreciate the information on all the actors and tributes to Hattie McDaniel and Butterfly McQueen. Wonderful costume replicas as well as a few actual costume pieces.
Kevin Wohl
Great for even a casual fan of GWTW. Self guided tour can be done in an hour or so - or longer for sure. Emily in the gift shop was so pleasant. Nice stop off. Great bath room too !
Jenn Setyanto
Great museum. Lots of great memorabilia. As a lifelong Gone with the Wind fan, this was a definite stop on our Atlanta vacation. Actually, it was the main reason for our trip. I was not disappointed.
Angel Stewart
My mom and I had a great time !!! The staff is nice, we really enjoyed ourselves. I also gotten postcards for friends!!!
PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL
This Is the Real Thing!
You are a history buff and want to see some impressive Civil War artifacts at the very place of the 1864 Battle of Jonesboro? And you love Margaret Mitchell's & Hollywood's GONE WITH THE WIND?
Well, in this case this is exactly for you!
Housed in a Historic 1867 Train Depot on North Main Street wonderful Road to Tara Museum is waiting for you.
Here you may browse Scarlett's stunning dresses and many impressive things such as the portraits of the four main characters reminding visitors of the 1939 Atlanta premiere of the movie.
But there is more, much more to see in this lovely museum: Merely its gift shop is worth visiting, and they also offer their "Southern Belles & Whistles" bus tour thru Jonesboro with numerous stops at different attractions. Last but not least at Road to Tara Museum you can book a great tour to "Stately Oaks Plantation" with its various buildings that a costumed docent will guide you around.
We at PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL have been recommending this attraction to our European clients for years and their feedback is so full of good memories.

I loved seeing this museum and everything related to gone with the wind it was a true treat to see.
Andrea Thielen
Such a cute little place. The museum was nice and had lots of info, the gift shop was full of GWTW items, I could have spent a ton in there. The staff was awesome. Enjoyed the time we were there. Did not do the tour.
Kristy Fortinberry
Such a cool place to visit for an hour or less. Any Gone With the Wind fan MUST GO!
Ed Wright
Charming, small museum. Some Civil War context, but most of the displays surround the movie "Gone With the Wind," it's author, it's stars. Really fascinating. Small gift shop concludes the tour. Well worth the nominal fee.
William Bilyeu
This was an interesting little place in an old railway station depot. It's just a small attraction but interesting celebration of the book and movie "Gone With the Wind." I finally bought the Margaret Mitchell novel, a biography of Hattie McDaniel, and a few postcards.
Angie Frillman
My husband surprised me with going to see the Road to Tara museum. It was the best surprise adventure of my life. We were visiting my husband's dying mother. And my husband thought to bring something good out of the trip! I was quietly screaming and went broke from all the wonderful collectibles I was able to purchase.Lol Thank you for being there!!!!
Ronald Richardson
A great place to bring the family for a historical moment
Chris Chir
I've visited this remarkable place way back in 90's. It is amazing and is almost a miracle that this facility is still standing, although there has been nation wide destruction and carnage done by BLM's cancel movement on American heritage.
Angela A
Beautiful exhibits. Very well done.
Victoria Williford
It is small but if you love the movie, it is just enough to not overwhelm you. The pictures, artifacts and written tidbits are great. I would definitely recommend it.
David Cobb
Attendants were very friendly and informative. Displays of costumes and postures, autographed pictures and biography of Margaret Mitchell were great. Worth the trip if a fan of the movie.
Cammie “Cornbread” Cline
We had a great time, staff very friendly and helpful.
Kathy Workman
To be honest I was a bit disappointed in how many items were replicas (though good ones). I'd also have loved to see a bit more on Margaret Mitchell's life. I certainly learned more than I knew but more than one wall of panels seems warranted. That being said, the staff here is fabulous! Helpful, friendly and oozing southern charm. We enjoyed our visit.
Edgardo Delgado
Little nice place, specially for Gone With the Wind fans. Lots of memorabilia and thing to learn about that clasic.
Jack Frost
This Jonesboro train depot serves as both home to a Civil War exhibit and Gone with the Wind museum. (Indeed, both go together.) Although their collection on both fronts is smaller than expected, this quaint place holds some amazing items worth your time; from Confederate Uniforms and weapons to authentic GWTW wardrobe worn by the stars and movie memorabilia.
In addition, for history and movie buffs, there's interesting trivia to make true book/film fans get the vapors. You can see it in 15 minutes or study the items at your leisure in the course of an hour. (Plus, take the bus tour which will show you how the town, book, and film all go together.)
The employees here are eager to help you and make you feel welcome. Their gift shop has interesting souvenirs for friends and relatives who couldn't make the trip. Get to know these museum reps; they will give you insights into Jonesboro and Georgia that might come in handy on your Georgia adventure. And try their Peach flavored Coca- Cola. It's refreshingly sweet. So much southern charm packed into such a neat place.

You can't miss the museum in the old train depot in downtown Jonesboro. Very cool little museum. There is a small section dedicated to the Civil War and the rest to the Jonesboro area and the great movie. The staff are so friendly and if you remember "Gone with the wind" you have to go.
Ron Bright
Great little museum about the movie gone with the wind . Also old railroad depot. Well worth the visit. Neat little town.
Thomas Weierick
Interesting little museum. Has a small section and a few artifacts from local civil war battles. Most of museum is devoted to gone with the wind, quite a large collection of memorabilia from the movie.
Edwena Holmes
Because Gone with the Wind is one of the two all time favorite movies, I cold not leave Georgia with out going to this Historic place .It is ne f he things crossed off my bucket list, I had a great time.
Marilyn Oakes
Excellent collection of movie memorabilia. The costumes were in exceptional condition, given their age. Highly recommend!
Judy Gibson
Loved all the displays, especially the recreations of costumes worn in the film Gone With the Wind. I learned that the green bonnet Rhett presented to Scarlett is the original one from the film.
Micheal Copeland
I did the pressure washing here for it to be clean to paint. I did get to meet the workers and ask a few questions. Very nice people here and a museum and tour bus you must take in at least once.
Phil Gravel
If you’re a fan of the movie “Gone With the Wind,” you’ll enjoy the Road To Tara Museum. Jonesboro is where the final battle of the Civil War Atlanta campaign was fought and is the location of the mythical Tara Plantation from the novel. The museum is rather small but nonetheless interesting.
The museum is divided into two parts. The smaller of the two is devoted to the Battle of Jonesboro. It thoroughly describes the strategic importance Macon & Western railroad that ran through the town. The chronology of the battle between Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman’s Union forces and Gen. John Bell Hood’s Confederate forces is laid out well and easy to follow.
The larger part of the museum is devoted to the GWTW movie. It nicely describes the characters in the novel, the actors and actresses who played them, how the movie was filmed, the story line, backstories and the history of the period and how GWTW fits within it. There are also numerous artifacts from the movie and the area.
The entrance fee was modest - $6/person (senior rate). If you like the movie “Gone With the Wind,” you’ll enjoy the museum.
Susan Macintyre
This was an awesome place for any Gone with the Wind fan. I spent several hours there and could have been there longer but it was closing. It is must go. The staff there is also very nice.

If you want the BEST Gone with the Wind gift shop, and tour, and the most AMAZING hospitality— be looking for this sign!! Yesterday I made the mistake (horrible mistake) of going to what google called the ‘Gone with the Wind’ museum— which what I thought I was looking for, but what I WANTED was the “Road to Tara” museum!!! It’s the visitors center for Jonesboro and HANDS DOWN, the BEST gift shop for things Georgia and specifically has treasures the “Gone with the Wind” museum WISHES it had. I was SUPER disappointed yesterday, when I ended up in Marietta, Georgia; the REAL place to be is Jonesboro. The tour bus, the gift shop, the PEOPLE that work at the gift shop, the stores on the street, by the train depot... don’t drive to Marietta!! Drive to Jonesboro, take the bus tour, buy great stuff @ the gift shop, and also the little art galleries and shops on the street, then go to Sonny’s for bbq, and eat!! You will think you died and went to heaven! You will never be hungry again! UNLESS you want to do it all over again tomorrow!! I could spend another day like today, everyday!! Made up for all my disappointments I had yesterday, after going to the wrong place!! Fiddle-dee-dee!
Denver Conway
