Reviews of Asheville Art Museum
Ryan Panchisin
Let me be completely honest: the museum itself is nice and well laid out, but the exhibitions available and the perspective they seem to take do not sit favorably with me. That's okay, though. Art is subjective. Much of what was on display was pleasant to look at, but what the representation is feels forced. Perhaps I'll check this out again at some point later, but for now I'd suggest anyone not wanting a political or social narrative to forgo at the very least the current exhibitions.
David Winters
I saw several very striking artwork pieces during my visit here. The museum was not too crowded. I definitely recommend going to the rooftop terrace as it provides an excellent view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and of parts of downtown Asheville.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit so much that we stayed much longer than we intended. It was clean, well tended to, and easy to get lost in the pieces and exhibits. We LOVED the top floor with the coffee shop. Loved sipping and looking at the mountains for awhile before heading back down to see more beautiful pieces.

Great museum, awesome AC and cool collections. Nice kids space. Not too big or too small, a good break from the breweries. Be sure to check out the rooftop cafe! Cheers

Lovely museum. I was surprised that it featured work by some very big artists including Maya Lin, Felix Gonzales-Torres, and Judy Chicago. I also loved the exhibit for the 200th anniversary of the Cherokee syllabary, very informative. I was happy with the diversity of the artists featured and the overall environment. Definitely recommend if you're in the area!!

I've personally been to several of the best art museums around the country and personally I feel like this experience was a little sub-par. I've been to museums with better art for free while this one was $15 per adult. The trip through the museum was an emotional rollercoaster. The walk through the Cherokee art section of the museum was very interesting. They had a bunch of candy laying on the ground with not tag above it. My sister stepped on a piece and the worker told her not to do that. But then I looked at the tag (which was on the other side of the wall) and it said that everyone could take a piece so I would say it was a positive experience. They also had an exhibit with a stack of 6 chairs. Another exhibit displayed one of the same type of chair. So I encourage everyone to donate to this museum so that one day they can afford and eighth chair to add to the exhibit. Last but not least I went to the children section of the museum where kinds can draw just to find out the metal ball roller contraption was broken.

Lovely museum with a wide variety of different mediums and beautiful layout. On the first floor, the glare on the exhibits makes them difficult to see and hard to photograph. Unfortunately, the gift shop is lame and not worth visiting. Overall, definitely worth a visit.

The Asheville Art Museum has a big city vibe - its so well curated I felt like I was in NYC or Madrid looking at art. Of course the museum is not big city size but that’s ok. As an artist I personally feel an hr or 2 in a museum is about all I can absorb and remember well. The first time we had a timed entry ticket to the Wyeth show, but the second time we took a visiting friend and just did a walk in on a late Sat afternoon and that wasn’t a problem. Both Wyeth show visits were followed by an early dinner on the top floor Perspective Cafe. I expect art museums to have great lunch fare food and this doesn’t disappoint. The museum closes at 6 so it’s probably better for lunch or a drink before dinner. Of course its a little pricey but the food is well presented and what a view !

It was worth the trip even though it was a small museum. We found a few unique pieces and discovered previously unknown artists. The view from the 4th floor was spectacular. The gift shop is small, but had wonderful art books and sketch pads. I bought a watercolor sketch pad for $13. It encouraged me to keep painting, I would love to see it expand. Also there were some beautiful and poignant paintings by African-American artists, which I appreciated.
Kevin Jones
Good examples of local art and artists, as well as some good paintings, sculptures, pottery, and other works of art showcased as well. The native Cherokee Indian art was very interesting.

This museum, like it's current collection, is one you will find a mixed appreciation and disappointment for at first glance. I believe that this small museum is working towards something bigger, albeit slowly, with what resources I assume it has access to. The amount of art that is accessible to a broad audience, usually works more visually and/or technically impressive, is on the slim side. I see the ticket price as a way to pay back the renovations more than as admission for what is on display. Culturally, the art here is a little of everything. Including many local artists and different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I love that this museum cares so much about giving a voice and asks for your contemplation over swiftly browsing beautiful pieces. I say this because much of the art here is neither beautiful nor technically impressive. Which does not mean it's story is not important, but broad audiences will not understand why they should read and contemplate the information of a piece to appreciate it's origin. However, as museums go in the south east. I was left feeling just OK. The balance of art on display is off and there is certainly a vacuum here that has formed either due to the curation or the limited resources. The museum should consider that a segment of it's visitors are coming to see visually stunning art, not decorated garbage with a powerful narrative. I would say this place is a solid 3, but I gave it a 4 bc I would like to see it continue to grow and evolve. If you are from the area and want to support the museum, go! Grow the museum. If you are passing through and have limited time, consider passing. You will find many more impressive works in other areas of the city.

Small and mighty Art Museum. Enjoyed spending couple of hours in Asheville. Traffic bustling outside but very quiet inside.
Maricris G
Worth a visit if you're interested in contemporary and modern art. Also a great detour from the more hip and quirky vibe of the city. They have a small, creative space for kids which was nice, plus a cafe on the 4th F if you get hungry. There's also a huge window on the 3rd F west wing where you can see a panoramic view of Downtown Asheville.
Warren Townsend
Gorgeous museum with a wonderful staff! Absolutely worth the reasonable admission, the perfect size museum with some incredible local art and cool exhibits!
Cheems Mojos
Great museum and even cooler they have an area designated for kids. Aspen was great 👍🏽 …
Adam T.
Kids were entertained by their own art/play area. I enjoyed reading about new art styles and art history. It took some time but that’s the point, right? Spouse loved getting a drink up on the Sunny balcony with gorgeous views.
Athena Reel
The Look homeward angel that sits in front of museum. The museum is decent. learn about the NC environment and there’s a child’s science museum in there also.
Caleb Lloyd
The old paintings were really cool. We got in free because a drag show was happening at the same time. We're not really into that but it was nice to not have to pay. There was one guy in the upstairs exhibition who was especially cool. The dragon has three heads
Gregory T. Wilkins
The permanent collection is nice but stagnant. It rarely changes making the experience mundane. The traveling shows are the best part of the museum. This space could be so much more than what it gives to the City of Asheville. In my opinion, you don't get what you pay for.
Gerald Jantzi
The entire museum can be visited in two hours. Top level Cafe worth checking out. Main exhibit had several extraordinary pieces. Everyone was pleasant and helpful.
Steve Carlin
Wonderful space. A limited, but varied collection of terrific local artists. A great space to take your time to experience and think about the pieces. Entry is a bit pricey, but well worth a visit.

Loved it! A must see in Asheville. During my visit we had the opportunity to experience Impressionist American special paintings exhibition! How the Impressionist movement influenced American painters here and abroad. Also a exhibition of African American painter Delaney, very insightful. While traveling through the rooms I came upon Cristina Cordova's "the island" sculpture.. One if not my favorite modern day sculptures artist! ❤ all! Visit the small roof top sculpture garden n cafe for a quick bite n a drink!
King Supersaiyan
Everything here was great! One of the art places had a deer head, and a gator head made from found pieces of wood. Would definitely recommend along with other places in downtown Asheville! I'll definitely be back anytime I come back to Asheville.
Greg Bem
Fairly short but the exhibits are great. Not sure why one of the exhibits cost extra given how small the museum is. Loved the free piano the day we went.
Joshua Reynolds
The main exhibit and rooftop were nice but overall I can't say it was worth the price of entry. There was an additional exhibit hall that you had to pay more for, that probably would have been included in any other museum. Expect to spend maybe 30 minutes here.
Elizabeth Ashira
The museum still smells like fresh paint even months after the renovation. There is a wide variety of art and various collections throughout 4 floors. There is also a cafe on the top floor and you can see a nice view overlooking Asheville from the rooftop cafe. The shop is small but has a nice variety of things from local artists. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I’ll be back!
Dorothy Booraem
A beautiful space. Satisfying collections of art from Asheville's early 20th century and present day artists. Visit the 4th floor Cafe for their in-house chocolate chip cookies and the view on the sculture terrace. Perfect for a 1 to 2hour outing.
Foto Jennic
The renovation was overall a very good thing - finally Asheville has a museum worthy itself as the biggest city of WNC.
The roof top cafe is very small, but lovely with a nice view towards Mount Pisgah. Not many offerings though for the younger visitors. On that note we were sad to see that the children's art experience room is much smaller than it previously was, hopefully they will keep it well stocked so kids can continue to create after being inspired by the settings.
The art collection is nicely varied with a lot of currently contemporary pieces as well as many from Black Mountain College artists. We don't have a functional history museum in Asheville, but there is a good amount of regional history that can be experienced here through art.
ginnismc
Had a great time. There is enough for the kids to enjoy their time there too, also has a really nice view of downtown and the mountains from the 4th floor Cafe, rooftop sitting area.
Aziza Browne
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. Such a nice variety of art and super friendly staff. As I arrived right at sunset, the staff recommended I watch sunset from the rooftop indoor/outdoor cafe balcony which was a great recommendation. I’ll be back for sure!
Nikki Skye
It's weird. While I enjoyed it, this really is something you will only like if you don't mind reading and meditating over pieces. That's what we did and it provided plenty. If you're just in it for the visuals, I'd pass as pieces are more abstract than traditional and you'll find yourself through the whole collection very quickly. 4 stars if you enjoy reading and taking time with art exhibits, 3 or 2 if you're the type to just browse visually. They do offer college student discounts though, so bring an ID if you have one.
Glen Peterson
Coming from NYC, I found this to be a small museum with most works created between 1890 and 1980 by artists I had not heard of. Mostly paintings with some sculpture and a handful of other mediums.
The temporary "Border Cantos / Sonic Border" exhibition was an interesting and provocative highlight. I liked that it was bilingual (Eng/Esp). I'm a fan of Harry Partch, so making your own instruments and composing music for them is kind of my thing. It was nice that they had the sounds of the instruments playing from speakers underneath each instrument.
The interactive art room for kids was pretty cool.
I really enjoyed the view of the Jackson building, distant mountains, and local streets from the roof.
That said, I thought $16 was high, especially when you had to pay another $10 for the Asheville room (which I did not see because I only had an hour). It was a satisfying museum experience. I will go back periodically, but probably not buy a membership. I hope to update this review with a photo of my favorite painting, which is not on the web site.

Mother's Day weekend turned out to be the perfect time to visit the newly expanded and renovated Asheville Art Museum for our visiting families. The Wyeth exhibition was perfectly curated throughout three generations of Wyeth family works of art. The docents on all four expanded floors were so knowledgeable and kind. The new café on the rooftop is simple, yet everything you need; reminiscent of the small café at MOMA NYC.
We are returning for the Southern Rites exhibition.
The new Asheville Art Museum is truly the crowning jewel of Art and Culture in the center of Asheville with its fantastic gleaming mosaic glass orb of light out front for all to admire.
Absolutely wonderful!
Aaron Littlefield
For a smaller museum, the Asheville Art museum does a good job of honoring Appalachian Art and Culture combined with a good variety of modern exhibits.
$15 for adults was not bad.
Isa Bailey
It was very nice, clean, and Informational. I went for a field trip (homeschooled). Definitely see myself going back!
Hannah Silberman
Had a great time! Being a native I have been visiting the “pack place” since it housed the Health Adventure and I can testify that the renovations really are amazing. They have done an incredible job with the space and it’s just as well designed as any museum I’ve been to in a major city. I took my daughter on a rainy day to the kids zone. They had a family friendly bathroom right there (one big room with a nice changing table which was great because we immediately had a diaper disaster) arts and crafts supplies, blocks, and an all around engaging space. I love that they incorporated art into the activities.
Donna Kemper
The museum houses a small collection but it is worth a visit. The setting is lovely and it's a great place to spend an hour or so. I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was not very crowded.
Paula McKinley
Started on the fourth floor with a cold drink and a wonderful view of the mountains. Slowly worked our way down through exhibitions some on loan and some from the permanent collection.
Chris Kelly
Moderately priced and full of beautiful pieces, but also powerful pieces relating to equality and equal rights. Really the only thing that made the trip to Asheville worth it.
RobinJP
Great art space. Love how they've curated works that make sense together. Nice variety of work from around the country and local pieces. In early 2020, there's a great exhibit of student artists.
The Western North Carolina work is beautiful. I learned a lot about the Black Mountain School and artists who came from that period.
The museum is beautiful yet small. It's very doable in a quickish visit. I'll be back.
Sylvia Harrow
A very pleasant visit to the Asheville Art Museum this morning. We enjoyed all of the art and exhibits, especially the black and white humanist photographs by Lewis Hine. In the lobby is a depiction of the French Broad River created with pins in the wall!
S R
Weird disjointed museum.
Go in with the idea that things are viewed and experienced from different perspectives and this place makes a little more sense. Imagine how someone from 1700, 1800,1900 2000 would see and experience a forest, a church, daily life etc and now you can start to see what the curators here are trying to do...
I say trying because lordy they have mixed and matched strange things.
Honestly, I would pass and simply enjoy some of the local art galleries.
Joey Mainframe
Great museum, initially came for the Andy Warhol exhibit but it had been transitioned. Was a little let down but that quickly relieved itself after a few steps into the current experience.
William Carter
Very nice little museum good kidzone, I was impressed that there were a good number of non-North Carolina pieces. They get only 4 stars because of the lack of sculpture in the sculpture garden.
Eric Koehler
The museum was a welcome and calm break from the bustling, touristy downtown. It’s a smaller museum but they have done a nice job highlighting local art and balancing many styles and influences. Our son loved the kids area and it gave us a chance to see the museum sans interruptions from him. The top floor offers fabulous views of the city and mountains.

The new Asheville Art Museum is open and amazingly beautiful!! Our entire community owes a great debt to Pam Myers for her vision over the past decades that has brought forth this world class museum to our small mountain town!
Calle Piercy
Very clean and modern experience! Perfect activity for before or after lunch in beautiful downtown Asheville! It has been recently updated and it personally never gets boring!
Kevin Barker
We loved this visit. Quite and very clean. Purchased out tickets online and it was a smooth transaction. Will visit again.
Matt Johnson
Very cool place. Small, but modern. Gift shop is meh. Some of the artwork was lame, but some was cool.
Michael Voyles
More than awesome love the Artist art work for sure!! The people at front desk polite!!
Jamie Allen
I've seen this building go through so many changes so I'm happy that the museum is still able to provide knowledge and perspective at an affordable price.
Juliette Fister
A very enjoyable visit to the Wyeth exhibit with a friend. I hadn't been to the museum in several years and it was very pleasant and clean. A great way to spend a couple of hours supporting the arts.
B Fadem
I think this museum is such a wonderful addition to Asheville. It’s an Asheville size museum, so not huge, but curated in a lovely and entertaining way with a variety of media and most Americans artists including North Carolina folk and Cherokee artisans. The rooftop is a great last stop. I think it’s totally worth the price of a yearly membership for unlimited free admissions since the exhibits change monthly. Will definitely go again soon! Not to mention the front desk and management staff are so kind!
Amy Pfaffman
Beautiful new space and interesting art. Just a bit small (which isn't unusual for a small city) and wish the cafe were accessible without paying for admission.
Laura Jordan
It was a great experience and we enjoyed our tour of the exhibits.
Henry Dixon
If you appreciate art, this is a well-curated small museum. There's a top floor cafe with a walk-out balcony for views of the city.
Suzette Fasciani
Nice museum. The exhibition on the first 2 floor is limited. Most of the exhibits are on the 3rd floor. On the second floor there is a special exhibit and a separate ticket is needed.
Sarah Katherine
The renovation has made the museum much more spacious. Additionally, we loved that they featured artists and traditions from the local area.
Rhonda Lee
The narratives attached to the pieces of art work were so well-written. A nice variety. Inspired! I turned the corner of one room and there was an Inness! I learned more about Pisgah Pottery and the Bauhaus movement. A lifetime citizen of Asheville, I have never seen a view of the mountains and downtown more spectacular than from the rooftop restaurant of the museum! We had a bite to eat, ending a spectacular day!
Rhiannon Hansing
The Wyeth Exhibit is very interesting! The 1st floor high school students exhibit is equally moving, but for different reasons. I highly recommend visiting Asheville Art Museum before it's too late to see these gems!
Alejandro Rivera
It's a quaint and neat little experience. A fun date night with your significant other and the view at the top of the terrace is incredible.
Dale Guadagna
Loved the John Cage and the Rural Avant-garde exhibit. Worth going just for that. I had not known of John Cage's work or the work of the Mountain Lake Workshops in the 80's. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Most of the staff are friendly. Depending on what is being exhibited, I'd go again.
Rolence “Rxley” Siteine
Offered a free admission to AD military. Had guides around if there were any questions about the art 🖼 Cafe on the 4th floor over a view of asheville was quite a nice touch to end the tour. 1st time @ an art museum. It was pleasant. Asheville is needs to chill out with the pay4parking.
floorcloud floorcloud
On the good side - the museum's building is very impressive. It is new high-tech sleek construction. Very light and airy. Very clean. The cafe and Panorama roof-top - is a very attractive special feature.
As far as the exposition itself - it is very limited by mostly local contemporary pieces of not widely-known artists. Although pretty interesting. Only a handful of more-or less known painters (the american impressionists). Some crafts, and lots of modern stuff.
I do not demand world renowned masterpieces from a small NC city, but I don't want to pay $15 for what I saw - it is not worth it.
IMHO - the museum is very overpriced for what it displays. I would agree to see it for $5, but not for $15. Because for the family of four (mom, dad and two high school children of 18 and 20) the visit sums up to $60, which is a considerable amount.
Just for the sake of comparison: adult ticket to The Legion of Honor museum in San-Francisco costs the same $15, while children up to 17 are admitted for free.
Art museums in Greenville, SC and Athens, GA - of the same size, scale and significance, located in the same region (South-East) are FREE.
M I
Yes, this is a small art museum and some of the art is a bit more modern and funky. If you can get past that, it's a really enjoyable little museum. I enjoy smaller museums like this sometimes cuz you can take your time and actually read all the placards and not feel like you have to skip around.
Elaine Shepherd
Wonderful modern art exhibit on the 3rd floor. Especially loved the pink boxed one. The photo exhibit on the first floor was a powerful indictment of early 20th century labor exploitation. Impressive for a relatively small museum.
Julian Warheit
Very interesting exhibits, with a variety of media and eras represented in their collections and exhibits.
Jill Foster
Small, but interesting collection. I was most interested in the Thomas Hart Benton lithograph Approaching Storm, and a painting done by Zelda Fitzgerald.
Seiya Furukawa
I think the museum was overall pretty great. As a student studying architecture, I felt like the spaces inside the museum were carefully and thoughtfully designed to create beautiful "moments" throughout the building and exhibit spaces. Their collection in my opinion is more interesting than the collection at the NCMA. The only negative thing was the lady "patrolling" around the Beauford Delaney exhibit. As I was walking around the exhibit, I could feel her presence and stare throughout, making me kind of uncomfortable and the exhibit barely enjoyable. It felt like she was constantly checking in on us as if she was suspecting that we were going to do something. Not very welcoming huh. I guess that's literally her only job but geez. But anyways, The ladies at the front desk were contrastingly welcoming and the overall experience was a positive one.
Michael Mahoney
The newly renovated art museum is beautiful! The building is well-layed out and provides plenty of space for art displays. That said, the art selection leaves something to be desired. With essentially two floors dedicated to art, the spread is on the small side. Additionally, much of the "art" is highly subjective. I expect there will be future additions of art and exhibits in the future. For the price (even using Zoom passes), I would say our group felt like it was not worth the price of admission at this point. One thing worth mentioning is the kid play area on the second floor. It stretched the time we were in the museum, otherwise we would have been in and out in less than an hour. I hope to improve my score in the future.
Andres Becerra
It was nice. Kind of small. I saw many interesting pieces.
Jose Locarno
Impressively curated collection of American contemporary art.
If you enjoy plastic arts please save a day to visit this museum.
Mark Johnson
Good quality and interesting art from around Asheville, North Carolina, and the US. Great mix of different mediums and styles. Worth it for an hour or two.
Mary Devereaux
Excellent small museum.
Dave Tinker
A really great collection and lots of room to enjoy all the pieces. We took our time viewing all the works and it took about 2 hours to make our way through. If you're visiting the Asheville area and you really enjoy fine art, the Asheville Art Museum is a great place to visit. You should also consider spending some time in the river arts district, it's fantastic.
Ömer’in Maceraları
Good selection of art. Adult $15 children $10. You need about two hours for quick tour.there is a cafeteria up in fourth floor ( need to take the elevator) with outside seating area to view Asheville
Martha Canipe
The recent addition to this regional museum is impressive, making for a enjoyable few hours. I suspect those who didn't feel the museum had enough "well known names" are unaware of the national significance of Black Mountain College, that staff and students from the College were widely known. There were also a number of John James Audubon lithographs in what was one of the most interesting and unusual exhibits I've ever seen at a musuem. I would, however, have to agree with others that $15 seems a bit steep for what is a smaller museum, a ticket price that will limit accessibility. I was more than a bit shocked to see that although Buncombe County has donated generously., the City of Asheviile - which is clearly reaping local taxes from all the new development - has contributed less than $2500??
Becky H
I was very excited to visit the renovated art museum. I remember before the renovation took place they used to do a free kid afternoon. I found that to be a great activity to do with my kids. Wish they would bring that back, at least once a month. It at least would bring more locals in as well.
That said, while I was walking around the museum, holding my child’s hand telling him to “look with his eyes,” I couldn’t help but feel we were being watched very closely. Not being paranoid, I get it, no one wants kids to touch the artwork, I don’t either, and I clearly had my child under control. We were definitely being singled out in a roomful of people. Tad unwelcoming, especially when I am trying to expose my child to the arts.
Perla Ruiz
We were in Asheville for the weekend and wanted to fit a museum visit during our time there- we picked Asheville Art Museum and loved it. Because we have a 5 month old we decided to go later in the day and play the visit by ear depending on his needs as this was his first museum visit. We had a lot of fun and our 5 month old really enjoyed looking at several pieces and installations. We definitely could've spent more time there but we got to all the floors!
Morgan Young
Had an excellent exhibition up!! Super clean, quiet, and full of beautiful things. The staff was very friendly. I loved every minute.
Danielle Hunt
The staff ensured masks were worn properly and there were ample pieces of artwork to view. The employees at the box office were so friendly and made it easy for me to use my student discount.
Zhenna Thomas
There was everything from Impressionists works to Polaroid photography, pottery, mixed media sculptures and more. I was glad to see the museum’s exhibits were inclusive of African American and Native American art as well. As the exhibits rotate periodically, I am looking forward to returning again.
Susan G
A gem of a museum with lovely staff! Be sure to catch the Gillian Laub "Southern Rites" photojournalistic exhibition. It is a powerful body of work.
SKim스킴의북투어
Interesting place, don't miss rooftop
Jonathan Reynolds
Nice facility, friendly staff. Makes for an enjoyable afternoon away from the downtown bustle, and food is available on site. Good collection of art from Black Mountain College and other interesting pieces.
Roel Palloj
The museum has four floors but two of the floors only had about 5 artworks on them. There's also a cafe at the top which makes for a good spot to take a break.
Stephen Barone
Excellent because the exhibit celebrated immigration and allowed that these were men and women of volition. Too many exhibits worldwide about immigration quickly become woke lectures and narratives about how my grandparents were victims of exploitation, too stupid and helpless to take care of themselves, etc.
Amy Allred
Loved the kids area! My 7 month old and my 2 and 5 year old nieces loved it! Beautiful art throughout. Good for a rainy day activity
Gerardo Chancalay
It is nice, I love the section named. "It was just a black boy." It really touch me.
It is good to visit and have some family time.
Sam Pardue
A great museum with thoughtfully curated national and regional art. Beautiful, provoking art in an excellent setting.
Ewa G
I had the pleasure of visting the museum, and enjoyed the Impressionist exhibit as well as the collection of photographs from the Whitney.
Staff was exceptional! A wonderful overall experience.
Jeffrey DeCristofaro
I have been to this place since my college years, having participated in events including the Asheville Film Festival, Music Video Asheville, Creative Sector Summit and Connect Beyond Festival. With the year-long renovations already completed, and more space open to more public exhibitions, I can't wait to see what will be shown next. Bonus: for those who wish to visit it frequently following the first visit, they will upgrade your general admission ticket to a annual membership upon request!
Henry W
Wonderful place to visit! Very modern with high ceilings and open spaces. There is even a place on the upper floor to grab a snack and view the surrounding mountains from a balcony with tables.
CPZ Windfall1
Stopped in to see the Wyeth exhibit, that was really great, so many collected for this exhibit.
Once considered moving here but found it not to be a good fit, just a feeling.
peter giles
Too political, at least when I visited. I liked the political messages, but the pieces seemed so political that they became impersonal and drowned out individuality. I had a sense of what artists were saying was wrong and in a few cases right, but no sense of any artist's strong emotions.
Michelle Weitzman Dorf
I feel the museum has a interesting and varied permanent collection and does a great job bringing interesting temporary exhibits. I like that the collection is only American artists and find it interesting and educational to be exposed to artists within the United States, past and present. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I went to the most recent exhibit Rebel's with a Cause, American Women artists...what a wonderful collection of work !
Brendan O'Dowd
Free for unca students. Worth a stop in, if you’re downtown already. The art was nothing out of this world but I’m not a big art lover. Clean and sleek building with nice views from rooftop.
Terri Leslie
Saw the best Wyeth lecture given by a granddaughter, Victoria. The exhibit of paintings were excellent.
Donald Grunzweig
Wow..... my first time but not my last. Awesomeness
Stephen Champaign
Nice sized museum. Professionally operated. I felt there were too many paintings and photographs. Adults only kind of place. The cafe on the roof was a highlight also.
Elaine Moore Schupp
Enjoyed seeing the floor exhibits and the view from Perspective Cafe at lunch.
Asheville Local
Effort to be a museum is there but atmosphere is very uptight. You will be watched and followed like in a suspense thriller. Also, gift shop is without a doubt the worst Museum gift shop I have seen! What a shame, Asheville?!
Marcia Brackett
Beautiful space filled with wonderful works, a great activity for the Asheville area.
Zia McConnell
It was Fantastic! The renovation is beautiful...so light, bright, spacious. The views from the new big windows are beautiful too.
Only downside was new price tag of deck parking -- $10!
Mike Dupont
The first floor exhibit will change your perception on a lot of things... Worth every penny to visit this museum
Ted Eby
Highly recommend, beautiful new building with some interesting rotating exhibitions. The roof top bar is the best kept secret downtown.
Cindy Conway
Beautiful space. Peaceful and serene. Good collection of art spanning many mediums, styles, regions and eras. Don't miss the view of the mountains from the rooftop deck on the fourth floor.
Katie Combs
We booked the loft space for a business meeting during the week. The space itself is lovely. The room is industrial style with large windows overlooking downtown, and an abundance of natural light. The space was also well equipped with tables and chairs and a TV to connect to for presentations. Unfortunately due to the style of the room, there was quite a bit of noise from construction on the floor below throughout our meeting. However, shortly after we left from the meeting, the center called and offered to refund the rental fee for the day due to the unexpected noise and inconvenience. Because of their exceptional customer service, I would not hesitate to book another meeting...I just might check to be sure no construction would take place the same day.
Dead Head
They had some really neat exhibits and separate rooms, but as a whole, it was a bit lacking. I expected a lot more, especially from a city as art-centric as Asheville. Still cool to walk through, but not as much to see as I desired.
Susan
I attended a lecture about Zelda Fitzgerald. It was wonderful! It lasted close to an hour and I easily could have listened to more. The presenter was well-prepared and knew his subject matter. He had a slide presentation that was good. There was a lively question and answer session after the talk. I will look forward to attending another event.
Candice Powell
It has some beautiful art but I only wish it had more of it. It would be nice if there were more seating so you could sit and observe the art.
Eric Ayers
We loved the variety of works and artists. It took us about two hours to walk through, make a sketch, and grab a bite at the cafe.
Tom Kellogg
The Wyeth exhibition was wonderful! Three generations work in one exhibit! What a gifted family...
Mariah McClendon
A little disappointing.. entrance was free, there were 2-3 pieces of art worth seeing but very small exhibit. This is temporary until their main building is finished. (Half of this just had info about the construction of the new place)
Jonathan Gilbert
Curatorial descriptors are a little edgy and wokey.
Stevie C
It's an smaller museum, but beautiful and well maintained. The staff was amazingly nice and very helpful. Highly recommend a visit!

Stop in on a cold day and see some unique art. This gallery has several types of paintings, sculptures, pottery, and more. If you take your time it's probably around an hour and a half visit.
Jack O'Connor
It was clean and well laid out, felt it was a little steep for a smal town art museum. Had some nice pieces when we visited.
Justin Su
Very cute little museum with a great rooftop view. I was there for the American Impressionism through the French Lenses exhibit, and it was great.
Kim Grossmann
Beautiful facility, does not take a great part of your day depending on how many of the explanations read. There is a fee, masks at this time(July 4th 2021) still required...rest rooms clean, friendly staff.
Randall Smith
Gorgeous building and permanent collection that was featuring a fantastic exhibit of contemporary artists from Appalachia. It's expensive at $15 for adults, students and seniors probably less.

Not the biggest exhibit for $15. Also a lot of it is not my style, but I'm not much of an art guy.
