The Wheels Museum is volunteer run and was such a treat! We visited a bunch museums and this sort of unofficial museum was, hands down, our favorite. The door was locked when we arrived (I think by accident) but they hurried to let us in when I called and welcomed us warmly. They let my 6yo run the little train we all rode on. Another volunteer gave him a little matchbox car to keep. There were tons of all sorts of antiques on wheels, and some not on wheels. I was amazed by the collection and the enthusiasm and knowledge of the volunteers. Don’t forget to stuff cash in their donation box. They truly deserve it.

This was an amazing find in Albuquerque while exploring the city! If you're into anything wheel related and enjoy being around others who are passionate and willing to take time to show you around, then make the trip. There is no charge, but support people who make an effort to support our city and drop a donation or at least a good review!

This place was simply amazing. So much to see and TOUCH! Yes touch. My two boys loved it and cried when it was time to leave. The volunteers were very happy and extremely helpful. We will be returning to visit. Truly a hidden gem in Albuquerque. The atmosphere and exhibits were so cool.

very cool place to visit. my only complaint is that when there are events going on to place put heaters out there. the museum was cold yesterday and with no heat, everyone had their coats on.

Fun for all ages, you can see most of it in one hour. The volunteers are very helpful and they have some good stories.

A fun museum with lots of interesting exhibits about all modes of transportation. It is housed at the historic Albuquerque railroad and the staff is incredible.

A great experience for the whole family! A spectacular place of pure nostalgia. Everything wheels and some things that fly . Soon you will see my artwork in this museum. Make the time to see it you won't regret.

Amazing spot. The volunteer staff are all very friendly and happy to talk about anything in the museum.
The collection is very eclectic but in a way that keeps you constantly interested. Beyond the various vehicles in all different sizes, from full size to 1/64 model, there are lots of cool books, magazines, and repair manuals.
Highly recommend spending a few hours here.

It was exactly what I expected to see. The old photos and books gives you a picture back in time. The model railroad were very nice. We were the only ones in there and they turned the models on for us.
Ron Duncan
It is in the Railyard at 1100 2nd Street SW. Free to enter. They have model trains, old cars and trucks and more.
Kathy Rasmussen
If you love history about trains and just the local area for current activities where movies are shot this is the place.
Donations if you feel like maintaining history.

The wheel museum was very interesting. We did have someone to talk about the Albuquerque rail Yard before we took a tour around the museum. They showed a 30 minute show about the Albuquerque rail Yard and the wheels museum. They do have a train ride for the kids and some adults. They have toy trains tracks that you could watch. Basically it was pretty interesting going through this little museum about the rail yard. I had lots of fun with the group that I was with.

There is a lot to see in this museum! The volunteer staff was so nice and friendly, our 5-year-old son really loved it. Be sure to bring dog treats for the friendly resident dog, Gus!

Very eclectic collection of nostalgic historical pieces to explore. Now that the adults are letting us grown ups play again this place warrants a visit. Model cars and trains of all sizes right up to full size and in an old train barn takes it to where time stopped. Little niche rooms that tell the story of where it has advanced from.
Susanne
Very friendly staff. My niece loved the train ride and learning about all the different types of transportation. Go if you get the chance.

This was an absolutely wonderful misusing full of charming exhibits in the heart of Albuquerque. It's right next to the Railyard market and a super fun way to spend an afternoon. Lots of antique cars, model trains and ephemera from the golden age of the railroad. We learned so much about trains and about Albuquerque! The volunteers were so sweet and knowledgeable. Don't miss this museum!

An extremely different type of museum. Very simple with a few bhands on exhibits. A lot of railroad items. Including large and multiple model train exhibits. A few old unrestored automobiles as well as horse drawn buggies. Period wardrobe exhibit from the turn of the century. Friendly staff. Interiors of the museum need a face lift but doesn't distract from the museum's exhibit.
Tara C.
Love the museum and the very friendly volunteers that run the place.
Robert Payne
Small but packed to the ceiling with memorabilia. Certainly the place to go if you like model rail roading. Entry is free requesting donations.
