Reviews of Rattlesnake Museum & Gift Shop
Chris N Dazzle
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! SO many really beautiful snakes! I had no idea there were SO MANY different kinds of rattlesnakes! And that they could interbreed creating a mixed breed snake! I spent a long time here taking photos, then got a T-shirt (which I'm wearing today) and some stickers for my vehicle. Happy to support a place like this. You also get a "certificate of bravery" for paying the entry fee :-)
Blair Witkowski
A must visit spot if you're in town! They have as many live snakes on display as a reptile house at a zoo. My kids loved and and so did I. Lots of cool facts, displays and a neat stuff to read about as you walk through. It's not very big, but absolutely packed with snakes and displays. You could easily spent well over an hour just trying to read everything. Fun gift shop also!
Jacob R Cortright
So many beautiful animals and so much to learn! While it felt a bit small, it's still packed with a bunch of species. One of my favorite parts of my new mexico trip. He even had some books to sell to me from his own collection when I asked for recommendations. Great people and place
Ben Terwilliger
Best museum ever!! - Elizabeth, 13, who loves snakes. [well done exhibits, fascinating live snakes, and super cool staff. The owner Greg answered a pile of questions and took our family picture outside! I was so fascinated with the snakes inside I failed to take pics. The large western diamondback was a family favorite. Must stop for the kiddos and snake fans]
shandrel shessiar
Way to much fun with a snake loving daughter. Lots is healthy..happy...and active snakes. Other goodies in there too! Not gonna spoil it for anyone but worth the price and a good way to spend an afternoon.
Amanda Elaine Standifer
Worth every penny. The owner is so nice, and they have amazing setups. The terraniums are very well designed and decorated. The place is small but they use their space so efficiently! We spent over an hour in there--there are so many animals to look at! I highly highly highly recommend you make this stop. $6.95 for adults, $4.95 for kids 12 and under.
Teri Eaton
This was one of my favorite places in Albuquerque New mexico! If you are in the area, definitely go by and see the life snakes! I stayed and talked with the people for a while and they were amazing!
Laura Jimenez
At 1st I was super scared to go in but the owner is a very nice guy who convinced me and I made it! Very fun place and is not as scary as I thought. The gift shop is amazing and you can find also a great collection of nice things :) must visit place in Abq!
Aninda Zaman
Definitely a cool place to stop by. This establishment has interesting animals and insects. Everything informative and educational is presented in a fun and entertaining manner. You get a cool gag certificate of “bravery” with your purchase of museum tickets.
Earl Tarble
Larger than it looks from the outside, there are three rooms of displays with both rattlers and pythons. Also, a good-sized turtle. It is messy with items stored on top of cabinets. There are a number of kitsch display cases, but they add to the charm of the place.
A D
Highly enjoyed seeing venomous rattlesnakes and other 🐍 from the relative safety of the other side of the glass. Other animals and memorabilia make an appearance. Well worth a visit!
Reed Radcliffe
Great museum with an up close view of one of the largest hybrid rattlesnakes I have ever seen. It's an eclectic place with lots of terrariums with snakes, lizards, scorpion, tarantulas along with display cases of herpatologically related items such as snake oil bottles, beer and liquor bottles with reptile labels, vintage books, snake bite kits, comic books, etc. The guy who runs the place - Bob Myers - is a really nice guy. He had time to talk for a little while after I walked through the museum. It is apparent he is far from finished collecting! Highly recommend this place for both amateur and pro herpatologists!
Whittling Down
Great place to see snakes that you wouldn't otherwise run into, unless you happen to be unfortunate. For a family of 5 adults it was just at $35-ish. Public parking is adjacent to the museum.
Kristin Wood-Hegner
Don't let the name fool you - this stop in historic Old Town Albuquerque has much more than just rattlesnakes. The small shop and museum is a wonderful, safe place for kids to learn about the biology, history, and cultural significance of the snake and other reptiles and venomous creatures while getting close encounters with a wide variety of unusual creepy crawlies, including Gila monsters, albino snakes, rescued tortoises, scorpions, tarantulas, and more. Ticket holders receive a fun certificate of bravery, and kids can get a free temporary tattoo. The staff were friendly and helpful. The spaces are tight, so if you're hoping to take the kids or guests while you keep your distance - good luck!
Tim Casey
I have been here several times over the years. Its always a" must see" when visiting the old Town area, or Albuquerque for that matter. If you love reptiles, fossils, or nature in general , you will enjoy it!
Kf Martin
A small place that offers a huge experience. We've visited lots of reptile exhibits and were highly impressed with the environment that the critters are kept in and how healthy they appeared. This is a definite stop as part of your visit to Albuquerque!
Quentin Durrstein
Cheap and fun little spot to see all kinds of snakes. Owner was also nice and entertaining.
Andrew Abernathy
One of the coolest places in ABQ. The owner is incredibly knowledgable, friendly, and educational. The animals are all well taken care of, with vast quantities of the history, lore, and biology on everything reptile, amphibian, and invertebrate. There is always something new when you visit the museum. I'm told they only have 10% of display items in the museum, with the rest in storage. You truly gain a respect for these venomous and shy snakes, and realize how inappropriately villainized these serpents are.
Rudolf Schmidt
The Rattlesnake Museum is an absolutely required visit whether you're a tourist or local. Soooo many amazing snakes, and other critters too! (They're all alive! It's more of a zoo, than a museum). Curator Bob Myers truly cares about his animals, and is a super friendly guy. Go earn your Certificate of Bravery today!
Joseph White
Such a hidden gem. Hundreds of live snakes and knowledge and passionate curators. Must see!
Josh Brown
This place is super awesome! The owner is super friendly and was amazing to talk to. If like snakes check this place out. Even if you don't like snakes be brave and do it twice!
Christine Parker
Museum is small but full of LOTS of interesting stuff! They allow dogs & our dog loved the box turtle, Minnie! Owners are fabulous!
E Abbott
I recommend this to anyone. When you first enter it looks so cool having fossils of prehistoric animals and reptiles. The owner is so nice, when you enter there are snakes everywhere. They all look healthy and there are so many different types of snakes. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who has an interest in reptiles.
Bethany Whitesell (itbebeth)
This was such a neat place. Was trying to get home to Denver when I got diverted to Albuquerque. The Rattlesnake Museum really put a smile on my face. There was so much to see, not just snakes, but interesting videos, art, and history. So many neat oddities from skulls to snake oil. I definitely recommend, a fun and inexpensive diversion sure to put a smile on your face, unless you're scared of snakes haha. In that case I dare you to go.
Jason Ostien
We visited back in March 2022 it was a cool spot I definitely enjoyed.
Michelle Martinez
I live in Albuquerque and my youngest grandson and I are members! We get to go anytime they're open at no cost except the yearly membership fee. The membership is not expensive and we enjoy every visit! Thank you for being there so we can create wonderful memories!
Jesse Simmons
What a great place. So much on display there. Spiders, scorpions, turtles, and a variety of snakes from all over the world all kinds of rattle snakes. Thats not all a great gift shop and so much more to look at. The owner and employees were fantastic, friendly and had a wealth of information. What a great place!!!
Ben P
Excellent hidden treasure of a museum! Visited for the first time and was blown away by the incredible variety of snakes, information, and exhibits packed into a small place. Don't let the size fool you; there are dozens of incredible and beautiful snakes here to see. Amazing value, affordable tickets. A senior, adult, and two kids tickets I believe were less than $25. Fun gift shop with affordable stuff for kids, very educational too. Owner was a wealth of knowledge, very friendly to speak with and really loves his snakes and will answer any questions. I've lived here for *years* and I cannot believe I've never been here before! How sad to have missed it, will return again.
Estefania Arias
I was pleasantly surprised with this hidden gem of Albuquerque! The museum features a wide range of rattlesnakes with pertinent information about them. I loved visiting the museum and learning more about them and recommend it to anyone that goes to Albuquerque.
Mr. Jasper
Super cool museum, worth checking out if in the area
Christine G
I love snakes and Old Town ABQ so I loved this place. There are lots of gorgeous snakes and a gift shop. It's a great place to learn about rattlesnakes.
Rebecca Brinkman
What a cool place to visit in Albuquerque! I’m a teacher that is always on the hunt for unique things to share with my kids back at home. This place had many opportunities for photos and videos of various snakes. I loved the charm of the place! The owners were very welcoming and personable. I appreciated the teacher discount they gave me, even though I was from out of state. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique place to visit!
Micah Altieri
Took. My snake loving 9 year old and he loved it. A nice variety of snakes and a really great staff. We asked to hold a snake and were thrilled that the answer was yes.
Tiffany O
Terrifying, fascinating, educational.
Get as close as you’d ever want to be with dozens of species of live venomous & non-venomous rattlers, as well as scorpions & tarantulas, plus a wide array of snake-inspired curios & memorabilia, then be awarded a Certificate of Bravery for the experience.
Well worth the amazingly low price of admission: $6 adults; $5 AAA/seniors/military; $4 kids.
Láralyn Mowers
An amazing educational experience for anyone who wants to learn more about snakes in general, and rattlesnakes in particular. There were lots of different rattlesnake species, and also a handful of other reptiles. In the back room, an educational film was playing about the only snake in the world that gives live birth (do you know which one?).
You can make the experience whatever you want. You could spend hours here reading up on all of them, or you could be in and out in half an hour.
My only issue is how small the enclosures are. But I imagine that's the result of funding. So, go, see these beautiful creatures, and leave a donation. :)
Jake
This place is awesome. I wasn't expecting so many rattlesnakes! The curator was super friendly. There are live tortoises that room around the place too. It's super small, but its jammed with stuff. I really enjoyed the place and I'm a curmudgeon.
Therese Marcel
This is a great little place. worth the 6 dollars. Lots of snakes ,A snapping turtle, a gila monster and a whole Lotta fun things to look at. Quirky but a lot of fun. And really worth it. The guy who runs it is very friendly and talkative. Gift shop is fun.
Emily G
My parents took me to this museum since I was a baby, when I was 8 or 9 I got to hold a python. Pretty much grew up in Old Town. I make an effort to go at least every year, if not more. It's the largest collection of rattlesnakes in the world. The owner and curator, Bob, is one of the kindest people you will ever meet, take the time to talk to him and you'll find out some pretty cool facts. If you really want to see some desert wildlife up close and some interesting historical exhibits, I recommend this place 100%.
William Buss
Amazing place! Great exhibits of rattlesnakes, non-venomous snakes, and other animals (scorpion, black widow spider, skink, turtles/tortoises). Can't wait to return!
Mariya Avtanska
I’ve been wanting to come to this place for a few years now. It’s an amazing place with a ridiculously large number of live rattlesnakes with tons of information and very kind and knowledgeable staff. It’s a must see for anyone interested in herpetology, but it’s great even for people who have no prior knowledge of reptiles! 10/10 would come here again if given the chance. If you’re in Albuquerque, stop through this gem of a museum!
Brian Wiedmeyer
Super duper cool!!! The first snake was the coolest!!! My wife had a panic attack, there were so many snakes!!! It was awesome awesome AWESOME!!! GET THE MAGNETS, THEY'RE SUPER COOL!!!! And they have turtles.
Varun Turlapati
Good variety of live rattlesnakes. Information on the rattlesnakes and some other species of snakes and lizards is decent. Otherwise it had the look and feel of a vivarium. If you've never seen a vivarium nor a rattlesnake this is okay to visit.
Michael Miller
Very informative. Reasonable price. Has a bit of that Route 66 kitch vibe. Space is really tight and inventory is tucked away throughout the displays giving it a feel of walking through a storage facility. Still, it's worth a visit.
Hillaire Gonzalez
Cute little shop where you can learn about and see rattlesnakes. Id 100% recommend doing the museum if you visit old town. The owner was so personable and friendly to
Adam Moss
Incredible selection of rare snakes on display along with a few other surprises. The proprietor was friendly and knowledgeable. Got tons of great pictures of the snakes, but only posting one or two, the six dollars to view the museum portion of the shop is more than fair. You won't be disappointed.
Veena Choudary
A wonderful experience- must visit.
We used to live in Albuquerque and I had not visited the museum. We went back to visit Albuquerque and this time with a 9 year old son - so yes this was a must stop. I am so glad we did.
The museum is a delight. Very, very easy to access. Very close to public parking.
The curator is a retired teacher. His love for teaching, clean displays and user friendliness shows! There is even an educator discount.
The gift shop is delightful and full of cute and odd things. The rattlesnake displays themselves are ridiculously clean and the entire space is well-lit, artfully displayed, thoughtfully spaced. The signs and notes are well-done. And displays are the perfect height for curious young boys and girls.
There was no smell at all. It was obvious throughout the experience that this is a labor of love. And you feel wrapped up in that love.
Highly recommend this! You will have a unique experience- no matter what your age is. :)
The ticket is a Certificate of Bravery- save it. A unique memory of a unique experience. :)
P.S: my 9 year old wants you to know that there is a tarantula on display in case you have a child who doesn’t appreciate spiders all that much.
nayara lavaka
My family thouroughlly enjoyed our visit. The snakes were active and we got to see them up close. up close and personal. The people were very friendly and it was in a really cool part of Albuquerque (Old Town). I will say it isn't a large "all day" type of museum (We were there for about 30 minutes). Highly recommend!
Hector Perez
Me and my daughter have gone here twice already and plan to make it a third time its a great place full of cool stuff.. she always looks forward to making a stop here when visiting... This is a definite stop if you visit Albuquerque..
Ally D
The animals were beautiful. Not just rattlesnakes, but other snakes, lizards, and a scorpion. They also had hybrids and rare colored snakes. They also had a shop at the beginning/end with some interesting items. The non-living exhibits are hard to read and easily missed. It is also cramped so be careful to go on days without to many people and avoid tourist season.
Marijo Ahnger
Well worth it if you can handle up close views of snakes and spiders. So many different ones and many active.
Ian Brent
The owner is so knowledgeable, and if you're as excited as he is about reptiles, he'll gladly talk with you about the whole collection! Tiny museum but absolutely worth the stop.
Kathryn White
My husband and I originally went here just to purchase a smashed penny book, but we ended up spending over an hour visiting and learning about the different snakes and turtles. The live snakes were very friendly and active, interested in what was happening beyond their enclosure. The staff were also very friendly, helpful, and had a lot of good information to pass on.
Highly recommend!
Dhanya Ganesh
There's no space. All the snakes are couped up in small enclosures and stacked on top of each other. The guy at the entrance was really really nice, but this place needs an upgrade.
Jessica Miera
Loved it! Great exhibit of beautiful creatures💕
Terry Ballard
What a great place! I had low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The owner is a cool guy, and the 30 snakes are mesmerizing!
Kenneth LeBlanc
We had no clue how many different species of rattle snakes there were in the USA. Very neat little place to explore for a while. They have a lot of cool memorabilia on top of the snakes. Each snake has its name and some even have a small description or story about that specific species. Cute little gift shop as well. The owner was super nice.
Marcus Forelius
Off the wall and super cool this was one of the highlights of our Albuquerque trip. There are a lot more snakes than rattlesnakes there and displays are informative and interesting. The feel of a roadside attraction but a good one!
Boden Boden
Absolutely amazing the snakes are well kept and the staff love what they do very educational
Jeffrey
Definitely worth the visit to the rattlesnake Museum which has a collection of live animals, primarily reptiles, and pretty much anything under the sun that can be attributed to reptile memorabilia. This includes beers, postcards and stamps, and staff who are willing to have a friendly conversation with you. It has a cheeky charm to it. Oh, the $6 adult admission is definitely worth it in order to earn your certificate of Bravery.
Joseph Matthews
Great little collection with lots of reptile info
M Wolfgang
Was terrified for every second I was in there, but it was a very safe and educational experience. Incredible number of snakes in there, as well as variety. Staff was very friendly and supporting, especially for my father and I being terrified of snakes but wanted to give the museum a try. Highly recommend visiting their museum!
Patricia Templeton
The most amazing place to see a HUGE variety of rattlesnakes. Many other snakes and reptiles to see also.
Elise Hutton
My hubby wanted to go to the museum on our honeymoon in 2015. Was pleasantly surprised. Very informative and interesting. Great to look at the snakes up close. The Steve Irwin memorial was cool to see as an Aussie.
Kat Fin
If you like snakes this is the place to be! This place is amazing. If you don’t like snakes (like my mom) they are still super sweet to you! Bob was so gracious. He got pennies made (yes they have a penny press machine) for her when she was too afraid to enter. Made her day. Gwen offered to hold her hand! Go to old town Albuquerque. Go see this museum!
Harper O'Connor
So interesting! it was fascinating to see how many snake-themed products are out there, and the live snakes were all so neat! The videos were all very educational and there's a ton of stuff to look at. Would be great for kids too.
Ang3lina
Nice museum, full of snakes and spiders! Nice lady in the shop!
Phil Sabra
Great museum about rattlesnakes with live animals.
J B
Awesome little museum, with a great assortment of snakes. Can run through the whole place in about an hour, or really take your time.
Sathish Mukundan
Nice place for learning about the various members of the rattlesnake family. Kids will enjoy the visit.
Kayla Reents
AWESOME museum! Great information. So many varieties of rattlesnakes to see and learn about. Snakes were active and so unique to see up close, without being in danger.
Lisa Notman
Fun stop. Not very expensive and the snakes are really cool!
Damian&Rita Explorers
Variety of rattle snakes on display. Small museum, but owner was very informative and enjoyed engaging with customers. Really enjoyed the experience. 🐍 …
Alison Ludwig
Amazing museum with lots of beautiful snakes, some other reptiles, and various types of arachnids. It's not a big place but they really pack in the terrariums. Great little gift shop too with many affordable options.
Leif Voss (Neuhisstihr)
I was really surprised to see how much they were able to fit in there. I didn't expect to see so much in such a small building. My daughter and I got our Certificates of Bravery.
Garrett
My children have been bugging me to write this review since we visited over 2 years ago. They rated it 5 stars and this is what they have to say about it:
"It had a lot of different reptiles. And had a big video screen that had showed videos of them caring for different reptiles. And they had a stamp maker and a stamp book, but that may have changed.
This museum is good for people who like reptiles."
Clint
Our family loved this little gem! An interesting, exciting and eclectic collection of rattlesnakes and other fun critters. The more than reasonable entry fee was so worth it. We had never seen so many venomous animals in one location. The owners were knowledgeable and friendly, to boot.
Highly recommended!
Otis Luttschwager
Snakes. Big ones. Small ones. Venomous ones. Non-venomous. Great vibes.
Kyle Sprosty
Good variety of live rattlesnakes and other reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. Price is a little steep, but my 4 year old loved the place.
Joy Munson
Fantastic place to learn all you've ever wanted to know about rattlesnakes and snakes in general! Really fun for kids!
Cassie Williams
Great shop with loads of information, fun exhibits, and really neat snakes! All of them look well fed, happy, and active. The certificate of bravery is a nice added touch. The collection of snake memorabilia was a fascinating and one of my favorite parts of the museum. Every room had information about snakes playing with a video if you wanted to stand and listen. Far more informative than the ABQ zoo on their critters. When you go, ask to see the really neat garter snake vase he has stashed away. The city should really put this museum in a bigger building near the bio park area. It is worth it!
Dayna Pennison
Cute little place. $6 to get in was well worth it. I'm not much of a snake person but it was good to learn about so many different species.
Christine De Herrera
We took my 3-year-old great-grandson there and he loved it. He was enthralled with the snakes. My only concern is that it's so small in there it's hard to get around the facility but that's such a minor inconvenience.
Till Manthey
Small but very informative fun slightly hokey but cool little place. Quirky and fun. If you are in Old Town, Albuquerque, definitely check it out, at least the gift shop.
Jacob Zamora
Amazing place, must see if you are in New Mexico. Beautiful animals and cool souvenirs at the gift shop!
Michael Scott Burke
Smaller than your u might expect but a really impressive collection of rattle snakes, friendly staff too!
Barry Ringold
What a great experience. Affordable and educational. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable which made our time there even more enjoyable. Support this business!
Brendon KEHOE
There is far more to the museum than just rattlesnakes. Bob is a very friendly a knowledgeable person. If you're in Old Town this should definitely be one of your stops even if you don't like snakes!
Ken McFadyen
Very cool exhibit. Very educational and informative of the various types of rattlesnskes.
Alex Suazo
Awesome place! Pretty good amount of different rattlesnakes.
Captain Alieth
Had a great experience. The curator was friendly and clearly knowledgeable about snakes. The museum had a lot of snakes and information.
If you're not afraid of snakes, this is a must visit.
Bobbi Jay
My husband and I were visiting from Virginia on our honeymoon. I love snakes and he’s very afraid of them, so the Rattlesnake Museum was a must! This place is a lot bigger than it looks and houses a ton of reptiles and even a few arachnids. The owner was very nice and chatted with us, answering all our questions, but didn’t hover. Our tickets had coupons for something in the shop but there was an option to not use it and give it as a donation— I love that! My husband is from Connecticut and had never heard a rattlesnake before: thanks for being his first exposure!
Robin Scarborough
This was one of our stops on our trip and it surpassed anything I thought it might. The exhibits were very clean and well maintained but what I LOVED most was the owners. We had our GSD on this trip with us and they went above and beyond to make our Ezra feel so welcome!! She got a certificate of bravery, a cookie and a tennis ball!! This place will be a highlight of our trip!!
Raissa Harrell
I absolutely loved visiting and picked up these cute dragons on my way out!
Andrea
Interesting place. Love seeing all the different snakes.
Zoe Souder
Very nice people and there museum is quite interesting lots of different snakes that are pretty active and there turtles are funny
Lisa Miller
Nice informative museum about snakes and other reptiles. Not huge but it still had quite a few different animals.
Nicole Sprague
Super cute little museum to check out if you’re in town! It was a lot bigger than I expected it to be from the outside. There were so many different snakes to look at!!
Akhila Surya
Has the best collection of rattlesnakes. We went in the morning and was able to see all snakes, they were active, not hiding. We loved the gift shop too. Will for sure go back as my kids are reptile lovers!
Mandy Underwood
My favorite shop in all of Albuquerque! So many snakes and many other cool creatures, including one of the oldest gila monsters in the world! You know the reptiles are very healthy and well cared for since they live so long. The owners are some of the friendliest people with the most knowledge about their reptiles! They have decorated the whole museum in such a cute way, and there are lots of informative signs about snakes that I found really interesting. The gift shop is full of cute and fun items and I got so many hats! If you're in Abq, definitely come see this iconic shop and chat with the owners!
Dana Alvares
I've lived in NM for 20 years and much like other "touristy" things we have here, I thought the Rattlesnake Museum was no big deal. Boy, was I wrong.
A friend visiting from out of state talked me into going, and we were pleasantly surprised by the variety and amount of snakes and things to see. Not just snakes, but turtles, scorpions, spiders....even for someone who is a bit fearful of snakes and the like, I can't wait to go back. There is so much to see, this museum really needs more space! Also- hint- if you go, make sure you take the time to talk to Bob, the owner of the museum. He is a treasure trove of knowledge about snakes!
Ryan Kato
Biggest rattlesnake museum around and we were able to learn a lot, while also receiving our certificate of survival
Wildcat 6319
The lady at the counter was super friendly...and let's be honest...five bucks is a bargain to see not only all the different species of rattlesnakes up close, but the museum is also loaded with snake memorabilia. Just wish it was a little bigger...the walkway through gets cluttered, especially in these times of social distancing.
Brandy Reiser
This place was so cool! I really enjoyed seeing all types of snakes, the worker was super friendly. It was low cost to see them. And it was a nice gift shop! Recommend if you have kids who like snakes.
Vanessa Meschke
There's a great variety of snakes and reptiles inside.
Jacquelynn Reynolds
Incredible! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. You can really tell how healthy all of the snakes are kept. They all seem content. The owner also helps ensure local homes for the rattlesnakes are maintained.
M. Ross Klun
Unexpectedly good surprise and very enjoyable. Walked in on a whim. Decided to pay the $6.95 to visit the live rattlesnake exhibit in the back. It was great. So glad we went. A hidden treat.
Michael Gagnon
I have been here three times. I found it fascinating to learn about the variety of different snakes presented. If you are in town, it is definitely worth a look.
Vanessa al Rashida
It was an interesting museum. The snakes were cool to see, but still scary to see them that close. The large turtles were awesome to see. It was educational to see where most snakes resided in the country and world. However since this was a field trip, I probably would not have chosen to come here on my own. It was overall a nice (but a little scary) change to my daily activities.
chris porras
Cool, fun little place to check out. Had a nice informative time with my son there. Really cool place
Tom Ford
Very cool museum with dozens of varieties of rattlesnakes, and other snakes and reptiles. All the animals were well taken care of, and each exhibit had lots of information - so it was full of educational facts, as well.
Richard Shinn
Cool place with alot of cool snakes an stuff, I don't do snake's but I enjoyed it very much, check it out y'all
Adelrik Kirchhoff
A great museum, with not only rattlesnakes but other animals as well. The curator was very knowledgeable and the museum had good educational information about the snakes.
Melissa Labrum
What a fun and interesting stop! Not a huge place, but jam packed with great information, memorabilia, and educational information. Animals are well taken care of, and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. They are great with groups, and have a large souvenir shop. The location in Old Town is directly across from a parking lot that makes it easily accessible and convenient.
Shannon Joy
The gift shop is really cute and simple, and the snakes are totally awesome. If you in Old Town, totally go and stop by there.
Nate Chertack
Picture a cluttered garage containing rattlesnakes in different cases, and you have a pretty good picture of what this one-of-a-kind "museum" is like. There are 2-3 rooms containing a variety of rattlesnakes, non-rattle snakes, and a myriad of other reptiles. The displays offer "adult" information above each case, and "kid" information below (perfect height for kids). There are also displays of snake-related products and artifacts from around the world. Overall, you get to see some awesome snakes, gain a new appreciation for these animals, and maybe get a cool souvenir to show your friends. Definitely worth it.
scott matthew bolhack
this is definitely worth going to if you are in the area. This is definitely a must see for any kids who are interested in snakes were nature. The kind gentleman who runs the museum is a wealth of information so definitely ask questions which he is more than happy to share. the entire experience should take less then 1 hour.
Jennie Eilerts
This is a really neat place. I went for the first time about fifteen years ago and loved it then. This time was even better!
The snakes are all healthy and in good flesh. There isn't that "retilian fug" that is often found in places with numerous reptiles housed in it. I also love that their snakes are not wild-caught.
I spent many years working in exotic animal medicine so to be able to be up close to the wide variety of snakes there was a treat. Definitely not for those with a snake phobia but well worth the stop otherwise!
Lacey Dobbins
We spent 2 hours in here. For a small space, so much is packed in. My son is 5 and he fell in love with snakes after going through the museum. We walked out and then went right back in to look at everything again. Really neat and eclectic place!
Tammi Miller
My husband likes snakes, I don't, but I was glad to learn the educational side of it all.
Amber Toler
This is a really cool touristy stop to make whole you're shopping in old town. You get your "Bravery certificate" and discounts in the gift shop. There is a wealth of information about the snakes and other reptiles in the museum, as well as a little theatre which talks about various types of reptiles. Would recommend for sure.
Kevin Wright
Great place to take the kids. The friendly staff is happy to tell everything you want to know about reptiles and spiders. Along with all the interesting gift Ideas you will find native are and jewelry. This is a must see in Old Town.
Kollin Miller
Very informative and interesting. Amazing collection of animals. Well worth the $15 for two adults. My wife who doesn't like snakes even enjoyed herself and enjoyed learning about all the different species.
Teddy Rose Black
I enjoyed my visit so much I bought a really nice coffee mug! Large collection of venomous snakes, as well as other critters. They give a lot of information about the snakes, not just about the species in general but also the background of each snake. Cost of admission includes a certificate of bravery, which I found amusing. A bit tourist trappy but I would definitely go again. Anyone brave enough to go with me? I dare you!
Echo Preston
This is one of those kitschy tourist traps that are definitely worth stopping at. The owner operator is a fun guy you might accidentally learn something about rattlesnakes and if you have a friend that's queasy about the thoughts of being in such a small room with so many snakes that's worth the admission ticket right there. Some of them is Collectibles and antiques or actually interesting to look at learn about. And his pet tortoises we're quite the surprise.
Ashley Gibson
This place is a unique little gem in the tourist haven that is ABQ's Old Town. Amidst the shops sporting the more typical merch that out of towners are looking for, Breaking Bad paraphernalia, chile and southwest flavored merch and good, the Rattlesnake museum is a little corner for snake and general reptile lovers, as well as those curious about the more deadly iconic inhabitants of the desert. A wide collection of the titular characters, including a handsome Eastern Diamondback as the first live greeter in the exhibits section, can be found here as well as other desert and some non desert inhabitants like the Gila monster and various pythons. An exhibit to the late, great reptile wrestler Steve Irwin is also included along with various snake and general reptile art and products. And of course, there is merch. Lots of merch. The merch shop is in the front of the museum so if you are not the biggest fan of snakes and reptiles, you can still step in and grab some fun items such as, the iconic Rattlesnake museum t-shirt, mugs, beautifully embroidered baseball caps with snakes and other critters on them, key chains, etc. Along with all the usual flare are a collection of handmade ceramic mugs and glasses made specially for the Rattlesnake Museum. These pieces are unique to each set and once they are gone, they are gone to be replaced with other one of a kind items, so if you like one, I'd suggest grabbing it before it's gone. I picked up a beautiful mug and beer glass myself and an really happy I did so. The owner, Bob, is really a nice, knowledgeable guy whose passion for reptiles and ABQ shines through when you talk with him. So, if you are looking to do something a little different, but still in the theme of the desert southwest, why not swing by the Rattlesnake museum, say hi to Bob, and grab a t-shirt while you are at it. I think you'll find it's worth the trip.
Charley Carlin
Rattlesnake Museum. What an interesting idea. I had to check it out. Well I don't think of a group of 25 or so rattlesnake terrariums as a museum but more of a rattlesnake Zoo or maybe a reptile house or who knows. I thought it was a wonderful find and very well laid out for a small Museum with lots of types of rattlesnakes from all over the world alive and well and looking back at you. Whatever temperature they keep the place which was pleasant for a human seem to keep the snakes active. I found the displays to be pleasant and simple and the three maybe four rooms to house a really nice variety of rattlesnakes. I think this is a worthy stop along the way for those like me who love those small museums and collections and the variety of life on our planet.
Gene Phillips
If you love Reptiles or are just looking for a fun place to stop and look at some amazing animals. THIS IS THE PLACE! I you don't like reptiles the gift shop will keep you entertained while your kids or company explores the rest.
Meghan O'Connor
Fascinating! The front is a cool touristy shop with a TON of stuff, a neat sculpture and a very nice host. Paying to go through the museum is the best part, though. history, videos, and a huge amount of snake-related products from beer bottles to carved jewelry, you name it. But the best part is the huge amount of actual live snakes. I've never even seen so many different kinds in a zoo. They're from all over the world. I didn't even know there were that many kinds of rattlesnakes! Plenty of other snakes too, many venomous ones. warning, they do have a couple tarantulas. I ignored those, LOL and you get a cute little "bravery" certificate at the end. Would be very educational for kids, and there is a cool little activity for kids that's like a trivia game in the back room.
Teryn
Definitely worth it for the cheap price! All sorts of rattlesnakes including albinos. Also very enjoyable national geographic video (optional) at the end. The friendly man at the beginning was also able to identify a photo we'd taken of a snake seen earlier on a previous trail :)
Renate Sterrett
We were walking down the sidewalk when my husband suddenly grabbed my hand and we were inside the museum. As he paid for tickets I cringed and said aloud to the clerk "My heart is racing! I'm not sure what he's getting me into!" She replied "Just know, everyone survives!" I guess I was to be relieved? In the end I did survive AND I SERIOUSLY enjoyed it. I had no idea there were so many types of rattle snakes. There's a wonderful educational piece on each snake's tank; top explanation for adults bottom for children. I also watched the attendent separate snakes so they could be fed. That even your kids should see! All in all, extremely informative, well organized, with kid tables to play and learn about the exhibit as well.
Randi C
Very enjoyable experience! Excellent information on the different snakes, plus various little exhibits to enjoy. Probably great for kids, but as a lone twenty year old I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Tonya McAlexander
I liked the variety of snakes that were here. I wish the movie times were listed so that we could have watched the whole movie. It would have been great to have more educational items not so many toys. Maybe if there could be times where kids could see feedings and/or hold reptiles.
Erin Sward
Great experience all around! So informative and a great way for people to learn about these amazing animals instead of being afraid of them
Julie Polhamus
I'm not a snake fan by any means. But it was interesting and very informative. A good place to go to make sure not olny you but your kids know what to watch out for when your out on a walk or hike. Well worth the admission.
Rachel Meighan
I had the most unexpected AMAZING experience at this place:) The animals are so beautiful and a good few are just as interested in checking you out as you are them:) (for anyone a lil nervous, don’t worry, they are ALL securely behind glass!!:)) Bob & Lorraine are wonderful!!! After I got my fill of reptile ogling, they were happy and eager to answer a million and one of my questions:) They are TRUE animal lovers and will inspire anyone who visits this great little animal haven:) Go there now and tell all your friends!!:) I will definitely visit again when I am back in ABQ!!:)
Robert Hawkins
The museum is located in the old town of Albuquerque. It is quite small and I thought expensive for the time you can spend in there.
There are a lot of rattle snakes and lots of information about them all. A lot of other reviews say that the snakes actually move and this is true for some but not necessarily all of them. I thought that the glass enclosures were quite small for some of the snakes although they looked healthy.
There are also some exhibits on other reptile and a large cabinet with Steve Irwin memorabilia.
The staff were nice.
NIco Krieger
A small but very impressive museum mestled in old town Albuquerque!
From the street you could walk right by this place, but don't! It may not look like much from the outside, but this space houses the largest collection of rattlesnakes and memorabilia anywhere in the world!
The many venomous snakes are all lovingly cared for and obviously very healthy.
There are informational write-ups on all specimens, with kid-friendly info also available at a kid-friendly height.
The place was a brilliant good time and well worth the inexpensive entry-fee.
Highly recommended to tourists and locals alike.
Natalie Baker
I love this place! Every time I visit from out of town, I make time to go here. Yes I pay the admission fee every time for the same views because nothing changes but I don't care! It's the largest collection of rattlesnakes ever and their merchandise is to die for! I buy every single time. If you're a snake/reptile lover you must go here!!!! You must!!!!
Scott Matherly
Great spot. Wonderful variety of rattlesnakes and other creepy crawlies. Yes they are live and no you can not handle them. Other interesting displays. Well worth the time and very educational.
Olivia Connolly
Although it is a small museum it is a great educational experience for children as well as adults. You learn about all different types of rattlesnakes as well as non-poisonous snakes, turtles, lizards, and salamanders.
Elias Gerrard
Amazing place to learn about the history of snakes, Gila monsters, and other reptiles. You can view every type of rattlesnake imaginable and read about where their habitat is, and the types of food it eats. Employees are extremely friendly and nice and have no problem answering questions.
Philip Trueax
If you like snakes, this is the place you'll want to go.
Unknown Abyss Paranormal
The best museum in Albuquerque in my opinion the owner is awesome and all around has some great pieces and amazing snakes if you are looking for something small but cool to do on your way out of Albuquerque or something cool in general this is the place
Eden Cook
I hate snakes so much, but the kids wanted to go in. It's a small museum, but well curated. The snakes look well cared for, and there's interesting bits of history to see. The tickets double as "Certificates of Bravery", which I feel I definitely earned.
Bob Albury
A quiant and interesting little shop. The owner was extra friendly. It was a bit crowded, but a lot of live snakes. A few random displays. Overall, a fun and interesting place.
Lexi A
Highly recommend checking this place out. They have awesome exhibits with an in depth description along with a kid friendly description of each exhibit. My 2 year old, who is obsessed with snakes, had a blast!
Tina Liepa
Small, but interesting place right in old town area. They have many live snakes to show with tons of information about them both written and on video. Pleasant and friendly staff.
Leah Giammarva
As a wildlife lover and advocate this place is a MUST VISIT for anyone. Beautiful reptiles who are obviously loved and cared for very well. The owner, Bob, is an absolute treasure!
Michael Fernandez
It can be from 20 minutes to an hour of your time! My family who really aren't snake enthusiasts due to previous experiences with some were fascinated about the many types. As well, this place has a little more than rattlesnakes, with clear information of the many types around the world. The exhibits presented in the main three rooms of it really made you think you were in some rattlesnake lover's collection! It for sure is the largest SAFE collection of rattlesnakes!
annam dalea
About 37 types of rattlesnakes on site in aquariums, but the guy who owns the museum has a collection of about 150 not on display. Kids get to hold a boa constrictor after touring the museum, as well as getting a discount on shirts and hats, and they get a fake tattoo of the logo for the museum. Was a nice experience.
Valaya Gaudet
Great variety of rattlesnakes( who all look healthy and well taken care of. Wonderful, unusual curio collection. I loved it.
Tom Tower
The Rattlesnake Museum is a classic roadside attraction. There are collections of charming and fascinating historic artifacts. Even for this amateur herpetological there was plenty to learn from their large living collection that includes rare and seldom seen species. Loved it.
Liam Hawkins
Beautiful little place! Go there everytime I drive by New Mexico on my way to Phoenix! Cool reptiles and very good staff. Love the facts and info i get out of the place. Very informative and fun place to take the family while visiting!
Yvonne L
Cool place! Big live rattlesnakes of different species. Awesome crocodile and alligator fossils. Great gifts! A must-see if you're in Albuquerque.
The Reviewer
The Rattlesnake Museum is an Albuquerque treasure. All of the Reptiles there actually move around and do things. This Museum is not one of those depressing zoos were all the animals are in tiny cages and can't even turn around. All of the exhibits are thrilling and exciting. The Rattlesnake Museum is 100% worth anybody's and everybody's time!
angelica alvarado
Great variety, nicely kept snake habitat, loved the snapping turtle.
John Moore
Very unique 👍. All types of different snakes. The museum could be a little bigger. The gift store is awesome! You will like it if you're a snake lover! …

Shayna McCartney
What a neat museum! Collections of many snakes and we have even got to hold a couple! Nice miniature collections of various things related to snakes. Great for kids and adults alike!
Jack Rabbit
When it comes to Rattlesnakes, Bob is the most knowledgable individual that I know! I have been to the Rattlesnake Museum on multiple occasions, not only to visit but just to shop. When ever l have out of state visitors or know of a tourist with some downtime l always direct them to his museum! Even if you suffer from Ophidiophobia, you will find his museum educational. So when your in Albuquerque, New Mexico make sure to find time to visit the Rattlesnake Museum, don't short yourself.
Rice
Best snake exhibit l’ve ever seen! The owner is very friendly and informative and greeted us when we entered.
Julie Sabo

Jay B
Odd place. Snakes look well kept but everything is centered around buying trinkets. There is junk everywhere, under tables over head on shelves and various random toys for sale everywhere. At least there are cards with pretty good information on each snake.
Callie_ B
It was a diamond in the rough may be small but had very beautiful snakes a gilla monster, snapping turtles, huge snakes. Me and my sister and mom came today the snakes were beautiful wasnt expensive, cute jewelry very cute place
Richard Wendt
BRATS youth organization of the National League of Postmasters. About 30 youth aged 7 - 17 from around the country, visited the Rattlesnake Museum in July 2011. What a fantastic exhibit! The youth were amazed and intrigued by the displays. Mr. Bob Myers held a wonderful discussion time. He and the staff were very helpful. Many questions were asked - we probably overstayed our time for the tour. Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Would recommend to everyone.
Ian Park Art
Fun, eccentric, affordable, and great service! Great place for anyone interested in snakes, reptiles, & bugs.

christine newville
Went with a 10 year old and he LOVED it. Bob (the owner) was really engaging and informative and really went the extra mile to make sure we had a great visit. To quote the 10 year old " best day ever".
Vanessa Perez
Fun and unique place to visit located in old Town
Becky Hansis-O'Neill
These folks are passionate about what they do and their work is very important. I would love to see an exhibits overhaul. The museum is half living collection and half cabinet of curiosities. Great for kids and those young at heart.
Andrea Lowary
I first started going there when I was 5 years old. We gave Bob our Boa constrictor because we were moving to a climate that was unsuitable for our snake. Every time I go to Albuquerque to visit family we stop by. 22 years later and I still love going.
Brett Turner
It's a small museum with limited exhibits, but it's worth the small entry fee if you are in Old Town Albuquerque for the day. I wouldn't make a special I'll trip just to see this museum. The proprietor was very nice and knowledgeable.
Tim Boo
This place is great. You can tell the owners are biologists who care about the animals. All the snakes seem very well cared for. A great way to spend an hour or two in Albequerque
josh smith
Such a striking exhibit! This is a great little gem, tucked in old town alburquerque. It is a wonderful, and safe, way to see the beautifully deadly animals up close. It had a unique way to teach both the old and young. It albertville seems like it may need a bigger space, which is always good. Go see it for yourself!
Ian Catlow
If you're interested in rattlesnakes this is the place to visit

Mary Beth Barbee
I loved it! Great place to learn about the snakes but, more importantly, to learn how much effort goes into helping rescues and rehoming or returning to nature happens through this place.
Dennis “DHOP” Hopgood Jr
Well... Traveled from Kansas City, MO to see this museum. My son was very disappointed upon arrival seeing there was a sign on the door saying they were closed due to covid. Problem being that they didn't take the time to update Google places so that people wouldn't waste time coming when they are closed. They will re open Sept 15 on part time hours. I dont believe in giving 1 stars for situations like this as some have done below. Be kind and give these local businesses a brake regardless of a mistake. Hope to come when you all are open!!!
Navendu Yajnik
Great collection of specimens of rattlesnakes. Also highly informative with superb nature videos. We spent full two hours in this place and came out very impressed.
