Reviews of Albuquerque Museum
We live in the Orlando, FL area and I wish our museum was as good. You won't see the "masters" here but the local art was very good and the venue is top shelf. We're seniors and the $4 admission was well spent. Even for 75 yr. olds like us it was very walkable (adjacent) to the historic zone.
We greatly enjoyed our visit.
BONUS: Although there is plenty of free street parking nearby, the Museum grants you a full day of FREE parking in the paid lot next door and at the "entrance" to "Old Town".
This superb museum offers a terrific collection of local history with fascinating exhibits, a very nice collection of art, and notable rotating exhibitions. We caught the remarkable Mackintosh exhibition -- architecture fans should not miss! Sweetening the experience, the museum has very reasonable entry fees and a very nice gift shop.
Stumbled upon this museum while wandering around the old town. It starts with great mosaic and the sculpture garden.
Inside you will find great works of local and not so local artists.
Don't miss the historical part either.
We spent hours at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh exhibition and it was excellent. We bought the exhibition catalog in the enticing book store, and went back and perused our favorite items again. (We were thunderstruck to find the museum's entry fee is only $6.00! In Arizona or Nevada (and elsewhere) it would be 4 times that.)
Great museum in a beautiful old Albuquerque neighborhood boasting lovely 1940s adobe houses.
Had many more photos to post but you must go see for yourself. $6 entry - free on Sunday’s and full of raw NM influenced art. A must stop for art fans when passing through ABQ. Your entry includes parking so don’t pay before you go in.
Great place for older kids and adults. Lots of great things to see here. If you have a library card you can pick up a free pass to the museum.
Is worth a visit. Nice temporary expositions and very interesting sections about local history and art.
Enjoyed cannot wait to go again! Loved the Georgia O'Keefe display and discussion! Had so much fun forgot to take pictures! Go!!!
My first time experiencing this place and I have to admit it was really a good experience very historic as far as the history about New Mexico definitely would revisit
It is modern spacious and quiet. People are friendly. I am in such a hurry that I stayed there only 20 minutes.
Wonderful museum. We learned so much history about New Mexico and Albuquerque! Highly recommend!
I love the museum and the gift shop which I frequent regularly. Staff are always pleasant and welcoming. My complaint is with the cafe inside the museum. I went there for the first time late morning yesterday and probably won’t return. The 2 young ladies working yesterday don’t have good hospitality skills. There was no greeting, no smile and no sense of helpfulness throughout my visit. I ordered the green chile stew bowl which I think cost $7. There were 2 very tiny pieces of chicken and the rest was carrots and celery which was out of their control. There was no bread or crackers for the soup. As I was leaving 2 other ladies placed an order for the same soup. One lady asked if anything came with the soup and was told she could get a choice of 3 breads. I was not offered bread. When I mentioned this to the cashier she told me “It costs $1” and she offered no apology for this oversight. I also didn’t hear her tell them there was a charge for the bread. This was insulting so I told her that was not an issue. Upon leaving there was no thank you. I was the only customer there until these ladies arrived as I was leaving. So as you can see this was not a good first impression for me and this is not how you treat customers especially museum members. I know there’s a shortage of employees in many places but if you want to keep your job you should at least do the minimum service with a smile if you want repeat customers and good reviews. I’m going to choose not to believe race was an issue in this instance. Thanks for listening.
Going West is a fascinating and important exhibit. Love the gift shop! Its a great place
to spend the day.
Fantastic museum - really well designed (I loved the layout of the Albuquerque exhibition and the graphic design of all the information boards/panels - very neatly done!). It's a super informative museum with a lovely art gallery too. Highly recommend!
I especially went there to show my home made crafts it turned out terrific! The Museum and Gallery Manager Maureen was so so very super nice! Busy place!! I was only able to go in to Gallery! Beautiful Gallery!! Loved it !!
Just happened to find it when our flight got delayed. I was super happy we had the opportunity to visit this museum. Absolutely loved the history and the art work. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful museum lots of Albuquerque,New Mexico beautiful Art and sculptures, lots of room to park, walking distance to old town
Lots of things about Albuquerque and New Mexico in this museum and a lot of local artists. So much to learn about this beautiful state. It's a great family place!
Great exhibit. Take your family before it's gone. These images invoke a lot of sentiment and feeling. It was a beautiful look into the history of Mexico and its struggles throughout time. The Frida kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit were exquisite. thank you very much for sharing this great art and history with the state of New Mexico.
Everyone needs to take some time and appreciate this venue. Staff work very hard and collection is well thought out.
This is an art and history museum, which is an unusual combination. The history section is extremely well designed and has lots of interesting displays. You could spend hours there if you have the stamina. The art section is nice, too, with a variety of changing exhibits. If I lived in the area, I would visit this museum repeatedly.
Beautiful exhibit of Mexican painters including Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera. The exhibit includes a lot of history and photography. During covid-19 it was packed and so impossible to stay 6 ft apart most times. The lady at the gift shop was pretty cold, didn't talk to me during the whole transaction.
I walked around the Albuquerque museum’s sculpture garden for a few minutes with my wifey and baby before heading into Old Town to go shopping for some unnecessary “New Mexico is neither new nor Mexico” T-shirt’s, which had some decent bronze statues, sculptures and such.
Wonderful museum. Beautiful exhibits.
Beautiful art. The best part is that you can bring your parents or grandparents and it brings childhood memories back to life. Not much of a place for kids with little activities for them but overall a great place
Such a beautiful museum! I really enjoyed my most recent visit, especially the "Visions of the Hispanic World" exhibit, it is well worth the extra cost. There were so many amazing pieces, and the history is very fascinating. I also loved to see the collection of pieces that were created by New Mexican artists. This is an excellent museum!
Very informational. I think the Navajo code talking section was the best!
This fantastic museum is excellent! Wonderfully curated. I was there for the Jim Henson exhibit, and also spent time wandering around Common Ground, featuring art from around New Mexico, and Only In Albuquerque, exploring the regions history and contributions over the centuries.
Definitely worth a visit!
10/1/19: Excellent museum! Inclusive. Native, Mexican, Spanish, & even Japanese! They have a small room focusing on the Japanese internment camps in NM & about the Japanese history in NM. It was fascinating! Nice organized informative displays throughout. I learned so much today. They have letters written by Jessie James! I enjoyed this museum very much. The museum is laid out well. Free admission if you have ROAM, which I have due to being a member of The Asian Art Museum in SF, CA.
We ran out of time to go inside the Albuquerque Museum, but we took pictures on the outside, it is beautifully kept. We mainly went around Old Town I didn't realize how many stores are actually there. Everywhere we went was so friendly. My main goal was to see the Rattlesnake Museum. It is nice and to me worth the price. They have videos teaching you about them. The church was pretty inside.
Great sculpture outdoors and a varied and interesting array inside as well. The jewelry display was well-done with good detail on the history and evolution of design.
Also a good mix of old and new, classic and modern, art and culture. Very enjoyable afternoon.
This museum gives you a great idea about the city of Albuquerque and what it all has to offer! The price is great with validated parking with the purchase of museum admission. So many great exhibits could spend a whole afternoon in there. Great place to go if you're in old Town and need a place to cool off in the middle of the day!
The museum has a great collection of statuary that can be seen by the General public. The display of many art pieces is very impressive. It contains a great message of historic significance. I recommend touring the displays and even touring the city. Wonderful opportunity!!
Great Museum: the exhibits are spectacular. The history of albuquerque is great! Lots of one of a kind objects and plenty of details within written panels. It is spectacular: lots of color and great lighting. All of the exhibits are great: there is plenty of space and the art is placed on the walls in ways that prevents cluttering. Lots of cool New Mexico authentic art including a Georgia O'Keefe. One think I would like to see in the new mexico art exhibit would be something by R.C. Gorman. This museum also features a cafe and gift shop both of which feature awesome products. The grounds are very well kept and parking is very convenient. Handicap parking is also available. This museum borders Historic Old Town Abq as well as a great Park with lots of space as well as play equipment and Spin electric scooter rentals. Overall a great experience. Great for a relaxing experience when alone or for a family visit. :-)). Great museum that celebrates the rich culture of Albuqerque and the southwest.
I went to the ArtsThrive Gala so it may not completely reflect the normal operations. It was put on to showcase and sell work from local artists. Definitely worth seeing if you enjoy art.
Enjoyed our time visiting today. It took about 3 1/2 hours to go through all the exhibits. We enjoyed all of them. The Albuquerque one was really cool.
My 12-year old daughter and I went to see the Jim Henson exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum on a Sunday, which is free day for New Mexico residents. We had a fabulous time! The exhibit was well curated so as to move the flow of people through the story of his life and work in a bright, informative and engaging way without feeling crowded or rushed. My daughter got to design her own muppet with video prompting as to when each turn is over, so the wait was not unbearable. There was a photo opportunity in a Muppet set up, which we did, but I had the thought that this point could have been a great business opportunity for the museum to post a photo attendant with a photo for a fee. Instead, I tapped another museum goer to take our photo in exchange for taking their photo, which worked well, too! We visited a couple other gallery rooms after the Jim Henson exhibit; they were ok... good signage with backstory on each artist, but not very dynamic. There's a neat aerial map of Albuquerque on the floor that you can walk in to find where you live. It's too bad there wasn't a computer hooked up to it so you could type in an address and it lit up. It was still fun trying to orient and find our route from home to school even without additional technology! The real draw for us was Jim Henson and that is definitely worth taking time to visit!
Small but awesome museum! Free on Sunday morning when we went this morning 😍. Much better than I expected. Great museum store with many reasonably priced items. Well! One can buy $90 silver toothpick and $10 earrings that look $50 😋 …
Went to the new Jim Henson exhibit. I really liked the movie aretifacts from the Dark Crystal & Labyrinth. Very cool and interesting. I also checked out the exhibits on Albuquerque history and learned some neat things about the history of our city.
Nice area of town to just walk around and waste a day. Free Wednesday is awesome too 😉
Get your kicks here (Route 66 reference, of course). Very well laid-out museum. Good overview of what makes Albuquerque so unique. Price is actually low for what you get to see, and I rarely say that. I particularly liked the Navajo Talkers exhibit. Get down here and get your kicks.
Always a good time. This museum is a great place to take even the smallest kids on free admission Sundays because it never feels like a waste, no matter how short the visit. Also there are lots of interactive exhibits and a great little cafe.
This place is really neat to see art and learn about the heritage of this area. I was heading to old Town and passed by this place and got caught up looking at the outside art gardens. My next visit to this place is to visit the inside, but if the outside was interesting the inside must be comparable.
This is a splendid little museum, with courteaus staff and beautiful exhibits. It's not the largest, but if your in Oldtown for lunch or dinner, its worth checking out before or after. Plus they have their own parking lot which is very convenient.
Such a fun and beautiful museum! Great exhibits, and so much art work! Plus free parking, which I'm always grateful to have. It's a wonderful sampling of New Mexico history, art, and culture.
Went in for the Jim Henson exhibit and it was exceptional. Overall, there is a unique collection(s) of art, from kitsch or Americana to traditional pieces, as well as a wonderful amount of local history. I'll definitely be going back, especially with the free admission days!
The reason I gave this a 4/5 is that there was no map or explanation given for the rest of the museum beyond where the doors were for the Henson exhibit. And, at no time could we find a docent for further information or to answer questions. It was frustrating to not have any idea of what was where or anyone to explain some of the, obviously, carefully chosen pieces. Having been to other museums in ABQ that seem to take pride in face-to-face education about their work, it was surprising that it was missing here.
Greatly designed and curated museum and very unique pieces. The Indigo exhibit had incredible pieces. A must-stop in Albuquerque!
Definitely a must-see if you're in Albuquerque . Its got lot of really cool exhibits and different kinds of Modern Art, unfortunately the Jim Henson was a traveling exhibit and no longer there. They have a real cool exhibit right now in workshop on how to use indigo dye. The employees are really friendly.
Went to Jim Henson's exhibition imagination unlimited with my daughter. What a great exhibition. It was both entertaining and informative. Jim Henson did so many things that I had no idea he had and was happy to learn. It was so wonderful to have had his characters in my life time and so many years later in my daughter's life. If you get a chance to see this exhibit it runs tell April 19th. Hope you get a chance to experience it.
Expansive. Beautiful exhibits. Informative staff. Low-cost for entry which covers all exhibits. Art Garden is an awesome addition, especially the community garden out back. Must see...
The museum is a nice & relaxing place with beautiful art pieces with very knowledgeable staff that are very nice & helpful that made the whole experience very Immersive and with that I know I'll be back..
Great place to view great art. Rotating seasonal exhibits which always include a craft area to make your own! Love this museum.
Great collections of artwork in several media. The galleries are arranged around a central corridor, which makes navigation easy. We spent several hours in order to go through every exhibit because my companion was visiting from out of town for the balloon fiesta. The only disappointment was that although I am a resident, I still had to pay the full adult entrance fee because we visited the day after the balloon fiesta ended.
I loved the store inside! It has all sorts of unique souvenirs and the exhibits were great! Workers there were engaging and very friendly. First Wednesday of the month is free! :)
This museum punches well above its weight. The Malinche exhibit and the Wit and Satire exhibit were fantastic. We went on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised to get free admission, but even if you have to pay it's worth the price. Make sure you stop in if you're visiting Old Town.
Had a great time at the Albuquerque Museum went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit amazing! I recommend anyone go there with kids or without ,date night. it's always a great place
Great art on display. I felt safe while inside the museum because social distancing is in place and plenty of areas to see unique, high quality art.
We were fortunate to visit the last day of the Frida Kahlo Exhibit at the museum. The museum is beautiful and I recommend adding it to your itinerary when visiting Albuquerque!
Always good to see some art. Today, I spent the day with my 4 y.o son looking at the history of New Mexico.
Very nice museum, we enjoyed our visit here. Learned a lot about the history of the city
The Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit was great! There was a mix of photos, paintings, and Frida's dresses, too. The staff at the museum was very friendly and helpful. Also, as long as you purchase a ticket to the exhibit, you're able to park for free next door at the Old Town area. I highly recommend it!
Visions of the Hispanic World
This was an extremely interesting exhibit that was well worth the time viewing. My wife and I also had a novel opportunity to view and purchase some original Native American crafts also being displayed.
Very interesting little museum. Lots of New Mexico history and artifacts, and a very nice collection of art.
You missed out. I had to go for you. Arts and crafts was fine as wine. I had a beer though.
Since I'm moving to Albuquerque, this was a great way to spend a few hours before our flight. Definitely going back for an entire day.
The Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit was carefully and beautifully curated the joy to see and also read the stories behind each painting. And I was happily surprised to find the Museum so accessible, even if my boyfriend pushed my manual wheelchair. The restroom was accessible, the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit was accessible and overall an incredible experience.
I was going to go hike the Petroglyph Monument when a huge storm broke out...Plan B: check out this museum.
I was pleasantly surprised by the collection of art here and all of the amazing exhibitions.
One can get a great glimpse of what the Southwest encompasses by visiting here!
I will revisit in the future.
The staff in front were on top of Covid cleaning and rules!
Everyone that was visiting the museum were highly respectful of keeping distance between separate parties.
The Frida and Diego exhibit was nice due to the ability to view lesser known works including photographs of F & D, and friends including fellow artists at that time period.
Various other exhibits open for viewing and they allow a certain amount of guests in per hour.
Nice mix in the gift shop.
Very well worth $10 ticket fee!
Plus the amazing sculpture garden out front.
Enjoyed the Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism Collection. Will be back for the next exhibit(s).
We loved this museum! It's right in Old Town, easy to get to ample parking. We went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit, which while small, was smartly set up and powerful. I'd suggest going for the New Mexico art as well, as it represents our state well.
Hadn't been here since I was a little girl and the experience has definitely changed. I really enjoyed the Albuquerque exhibit.
There is so much to see at this museum, so many exhibits! You can honestly find something new everytime. The space is really nice and well kept. We spent our whole afternoon checking out the traveling exhibit which was awesome.
The tickets are beyond reasonable, especially considering how large the museum is. There is so much to see from local artists, both historical and modern. The exhibits are clean, well-designed, and organized incredibly well. I only spent about an hour and 15 minutes there, but barely got through 2 exhibits. Those exhibits about Albuquerque are incredible and host a beautifully immersive scene. I highly recommend going at least once, if not twice.
The traveling exhibits are wonderful. I went when the Jim Henson exhibit was there, and recently with the Indigo exhibit hosted artifacts from all over the globe.
Small in scope but quite pleasant and well curated, with some good exhibits.
Went to see the Jim Henson special Xzibit! Was wonderfully displayed, staff was nice and friendly, all around wonderful time for myself and my ten-year-old. Only thing disappointing was the cafe stop serving food at 2 which I thought was a little too early for a family place. But other than that it was a wonderful time and I would definitely go again.
Wonderful museum. I'd share pictures but they weren't allowed. I did get a pic of a jewelry piece by local artist, Susan Skinner that I plan to add to my collection if it's still to be gotten. Not sure the name of the artist for the sunflower. These pieces were in the museum store where pics are allowed.
Nice interesting artwork, NM history, very nice collection of items in museum store
This place is great! I love the Jim Henson Exhibit they have here! You get to see and read a lot of "behind the scenes" type stuff. They have the actual outfits that David Bowie and Jennifer Connely wore during the dancing dream scene. I still have more exhibits to explore in the museum the next time I go in and visit. The New Mexico art is must see!
Went with my family to the Jim Henson exhibit. So cute. Love going for the traveling collections and then spending another hour or two looking at the rest of the art.
Diego and Frida Exhibit is going on till May 2nd. For $10 it is a must see! It is beautifully curated and shows different parts of her life with Diego, from meeting Diego as a teen, to her death in 1954. Great show!❤🌸🌺 …
This museum is a wonderful amenity for Albuquerque. Nice to visit at a time when it's not too busy. I enjoyed the current Indego exhibit.
Beautiful building, easy parking, and well-curated exhibits. Only $5 for adults and parking is free with museum admission. My group spent 3 hours viewing only two of the seven exhibits that were up. There is so much to see. The cafe in the museum is open, but we walked the short distance to Old Town Pizza Parlor so we could dine outside.
This Museum will give you an overview of the diverse elements that exist in city of Albuquerque. You will find a vast timeline of native Americans, Spanish, Mexican and Anglos. All of these groups help create a special part of the American landscape.
Fabulous Go! Enjoy wonderful experience lots of things to see! I so loved! Going back!
Recently updated, highly interactive and engaging, large scale, permanent exhibit on more than 300 years of local human history, from founding of the City of Albuquerque in 1706 to the Tricentential celebration in 2006. Museum has more than 7 galleries for large scale professional exhibits of art or histor artifacts. Free parking in a large, city government owned paved lot to south of front door. Parking lot only free for city museum visitors. Just tell the Albuquerque museum front desk cashier the parking spot stall number when you arrive at the museum. They will ask for your home zip code. Museum cafe sells great pecan pie, as well as lunch items. Friendly staff. Free admission offered every on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. And free tours are offered of the art sculptures in gardens around the museum. Art classes are offered by museum for kids and adults. Also, free arts and crafts nights with a music concert are offered monthly on the 3rd Thursday evening.
Lee Marmon exhibit is well done. Catch it before it is gone.
An amazing place to take in world class exhibits. I really enjoyed the Frida Kahlo/Diego Rivera exhibit. :)
Very cool art and history of New Mexico
Great museum! It's spacious and well-lit, and mostly consists of galleries full of art, both by artists from Albuquerque and other artists about NM. It's well-curated, and found all the galleries interesting
Nice museum to spend an afternoon. Small but relaxing and a variety of exhibits. We want for the Jim Henson exhibit....which was incredible.
Great place to take the family . Today it was free but normally $ 4-8 depending on age. Fun interactive stuff to do in some sections. Cameras allowed without flash. Great souvenir shops are around.
Great space to learn and see amazing artwork. excellent in this regard! However just like many places short staffing. Our classroom would have benefited with guide but not available. Guides were available but not for our 5th grade classroom. It's my understanding this was booked months in advance. I guess the guides were told others are more important? Why? Young children perhaps could benefit more? We did enjoy but could have been a much more memorable experience with guide. Oh well.....this is our new world. Thanks though.....I feel we at least exposed these kids. Staff was friendly.
A really nice look into the art of Albuquerque and surrounding areas of NM. Worth the ticket price for sure.
If you want to get to know a little about the local artist of NM this is the perfect place to go. It's not too big and very informative
The Albuquerque Museum is a gem of a Museum. For a city of its size, this Museum is one of the best. They consistently have good art shows in their main gallery and oftentimes very good shows in the smaller galleries as well. Being next to Old Town it makes a wonderful day in Albuquerque.
We went and saw the JimHenson exhibit. My favorite part was seeing Sarah's Dress and Jareth's suit. They were beautiful. I might make something like them. The bead work on Jareth's suit is amazing.
We then went to see the rest of the museum. I liked finding my house on the map of the Albuquerque room. I think a lot of people were trying to find their house too. We saw the exhibits. The one I found interesting is how much water a person would use a day.
This is a world-class museum museum with excellent traveling exhibits as well as its own wonderful collection. The Frida Kahlo exhibit was phenomenal... these days you've got to make reservations in advance online but don't miss it!
If you don't regularly visit, you're missing one of the truest cultural experiences in Albuquerque. Always changing exhibits so it's best to check their website for what's new. Excellent gift shop includes local artisans; lots of books on NM history and culture. Cute cafe is also open. Don't miss the shady sculpture garden!
My family and I had an AMAZING time at Alb Museum. The Jim Henson exhibit will exceed your high expectations. Alb Museum is a great reputation of Alb and New Mexico. Keep up the great work.
Free parking with museum admission really sweetens the deal as you get to easily explore Old Town with in and out access . Museum docents were a joy to hangout with. Shout-out to Karil and Nancy for going above and beyond their tour times to patiently explain the amazing history and culture of Albuquerque.
Easy access to lockers.. museum staff was kind enough to loan me a quarter..
Remaining exhibits were nice. Was hoping to see more native American craft, but the nearby Indian Pueblo Center covers that.
Great place to go to see collections of art, and the history of Albuquerque in New Mexico. They also have rotating exhibits that require tickets to attend. Sometimes there are concerts and gatherings outside in the auditorium. Low cost and many choices of things to see and enjoy. Check their website to view the choices of venues, hours of operation and ticket prices for special events.
This museum was so educational, beautiful and fascinating! I highly recommend this place for anyone that wants to know Burque more intimately!!
Enjoy the Albuquerque Museum and great place to have lunch as well in Old Town
Adventure is out there. Or in this case in there. Also, the Jim Henson exhibit was in town. Aren't those Muppet Babies so cute?
Great museum and the admission fee is only $4 for each adult. It also has a gallery that introduce the history of Albuquerque; it also has a beautiful garden to walk through.
Wonderful exhibit right now of Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera plus all the other marvelous art! Too bad many exhibits are closed but definitely an inspiring place to stroll.
Exhibits were well thought out, informative and engaging.
We attended an evening event called "Music under the stars," which on Friday evening was Salsa music (live band)/dancing in the amphitheater for an entrance fee of $18 each. Adult beverages and food are sold during the event. We had a great time dancing and the live music is well worth it.
Wonderful museum. Attended a writing event here today
Great museum! Has excellent exhibitions, but local and traveling.
Walked around the open air park
Beautiful museum. You could easily spend several hours here.
Wow, the jewerly exhibit was so interesting. I really enjoyed the 5 galleries that I saw, especially the local NM work and history. There is a lot of variety in media and artists for its size
Can't beat that for 6$, air conditioning, local art and culture. Just go!
They had my sons school read poems about the art was wonderful
This is my second time in Albuquerque and second time visiting this museum. Loved it each time. The exhibits are well curated and interesting. Depending on your interests, you could spend up to 3 hours. Very manageable. The museum space is great, very well laid out. And the outdoor space is lovely.
What a very nice Art museums with several galleries of old Albuquerque.
I love this museum and all the work they do with local nonprofits and artists
Strolled only the outside grounds. Beautiful sculptures and informative plaques.
If you are looking for something to do on a visit to Albuquerque, this museum should be high on your list. I loved the Albuquerque exhibit. It's a great way to learn about the city. The art was also very enjoyable. The museum campus and the museum building are designed very well. I appreciated the beautiful space and I am very glad we visited
My son really enjoys this place but I wish they had more options and by now I wish there would be fully opens.
My family loves coming bto the Saturday family art. Adults and kids pay admission, and the art class is included.
The museum has interesting exhibits on local art, and one exhibit that changes regularly. Very reasonably priced gift shop too!
Very affordable museum focused mostly on art and the story of Albuquerque.
Enjoyed the stop before Old Town. Provided a great place for parking and loved the fact that the parking was free with the museum admittance fee for the day. After the museum we spent a few hours in Old Town. My only disappointment was 3 of the 7 galleries were closed. I believe they were changing exhibits. Maybe they should do only 1 or 2 at a time. Having almost half the exhibits closedat one time seemed excessive. But otherwise enjoyed our time there.
Great Museum learned alot about New Mexico.... Will return next time we're in Albuquerque for the next galleries.
Great concert at the Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater
"Ladies Sing The Blues"
We spent about 4 hours there. Lots of interesting things and art to see. Plenty more to see on a return visit. Well worth the time and very inexpensive.
Medium sized museum, full of art and a history section. Fun for the free first Wednesdays, not sure how much it is usually
Loved this museum very educational would go again
I went to see the statues that my uncle Sonny Rivera made . Its was very interesting . I will return and tell everyone how nice this place is.
We enjoyed the indigo exhibit. There were also some interactive things that were fun as well.
Easy to get too and free parking for the museum. Small museum with a good history of Albuquerque. Free on Sunday’s.
This museum is so big probably would take you a month to go through look at everything read everything it was amazing.
Great museum. Check out the Jim Henson exhibit!!
Wow. Impressed. Really enjoyed visiting the Frida exhibit. Amazing other collections as well. I learned, I was inspired, I felt more connected to New Mexico. Clean, organized, well maintained, and a great cultural asset. Locals will learn, “visitors” will get a taste of this great state.
Had a tile sign from a wall fall on my foot (most painful) during a jazz concert and tried to report it to proper security person in charge... but 3 calls later to 2 different people and security person in charge never called me to get a report.
..pretty sad.
I always love the Albuquerque Museum! Great exhibits. Its my go to place for peace and calm .
One of the most affordable entry fees for a museum of this caliber and the collection is first rate, exhibiting both international artists and local New Mexico talent (of which there is no short supply!) Well worth spending a full afternoon at this wonderful establishment Albuquerque locals are lucky to have.
Loved the place.
Lots of history as well as art
Amazing exhibit on Jim Henson . Also the everyday exhibits are awesome.
Free parking so after you visit the museum, you can venture around Old Town.
Very nice exhibits that seemed inexhaustible. Just when you think that must be it there's another gallery. Nice overview of local history and art history.
Wonderful museum. It tended two shows here. Both were excellent and curated beautifully. The gift shop is really interesting also.
I like to check out the exhibitions every three to six months when they change. This month until April we have the Muppets
This museum is great! The exhibits at the main entrance are always changing. I used to come with my mom a lot as a kid so returning and seeing some of the older pieces brings back fond memories. During the summer, our daughter attends art class here for 4 days. She really looks forward to it. The art teachers are very patient with the kids.
This is Albuquerque's Art Museum. They have a very good permanent collection and world-class exhibitions in their other galleries. One of the most recent is the Indigo Across The Globe exhibition. It tells the history of the Indigo trade and the art brought out new aspects of this beautiful color! If you arrive before 1pm on Sunday, admission is free.
I haven't been to The Albuquerque Museum in awhile but it has been nice to go there. To see all the art work and even when they had the Spanish exhibit back when.
Very cool modern art by New Mexico's finest artists.
There are scheduled exhibits that are not to miss! All summer there is Jazz under the stars on Friday nights and Salsa live music on Saturdays with dancing encouraged in the outdoor arena.
We love the Albuquerque Museum. We went for the Frida Khalo exhibit. It was spectacular. The staff was so friendly.
It was a great time, i loved to watch all of the artworks and i also found a bag with blue crystals in a behind a painting:) i am going to put them in a bowl for decorations!
Make sure you check ahead. Wanted to go to the Frida exhibit and all dates were sold out until we were gone.
Great museum with beautiful arts and exhibits.
Pretty cool place for new Mexican info
Gotta check it out.
Really nice museum! Loved the current show about La Malinche which I knew nothing about previously. Very informative, interesting and relaxing.
Spur of the moment solo visit. So GLAD I did! Exceptional art in every exhibit. It was empowering to see just how great the Albq Museum of Art is!! Top shelf in any metro city.
Truly....go. ♡
Jim Henson exhibit is a must see. History of Jim Henson and Muppets is a family experience.
I liked the Glasgow School exhibit. Also liked the small folding chairs that can be used during docent tours.
This is a very nice museum, especially for a town of this size.
This is a great little art & history museum. The gift shop is GREAT! Beautiful items that are reasonably priced. The museum shows local artists, up and coming high school photographers and has great, small traveling shows. Plus it's not over the top expensive. Locals can get in free on Sunday mornings. They have a lovely sculpture garden too. The museum has many free lectures and in summer they host wonderful outdoor jazz and salsa concerts.
Great museum, easy to walk. There's 1 Georgia O'Keefe painting.
The experience was amazing with multiple sections to explore through. As well as certain exhibits provide free prints of what was in the exhibit which makes the price feel like a steal. It definitely has something for everyone and a lot of New Mexico history baked in.
Charming little museum where one can learn a very detailed history of Albuquerque. Loved the first hand accounts of the Navajo code talkers
Recently saw the Mexican Modernist Exhibition. Fabulous! Enjoyed it very much. The gift shop has beautiful things in all price points. Walked over to Church Street Cafe and had lunch. Lovely day!
Our museum isn't the boring place you went on field trips to anymore. It's modern, has a rich collection of good New Mexico art and artifacts, and some truly special displays. The temporary Jim Henson exhibition is also terrific and well worth it.
One of the best places to visit if you want to get to know Albuquerque. Brilliant gift shop (my annual last minute Christmas shopping destination), astounding art, and an absolute bargain. Not necessarily a place to bring the kids.
This was a wonderful museum When spent over an hour in each of two main areas and then were too tired to spend a lot of time in the rest. We will return so we can see the rest of the museum.
Unique installations, and we lucked out being there during the Jim Henson exhibit!
It was so awesome!!! I haven't been to the Art Museum in years. It was so nice to be there again. There are so many talented artists. Their work is just beautiful!!! I'll go back again sometime soon.
This museum has been a delight for the many years I've been in New Mexico. My and my family have been here for a number of things. Shaken Not Stirred is great for people who want to party! Just recently we attended the Jim Henson exhibit and we loved every second of it. I got a real feel for who he was as a person and got an insight to his past. The museum also has a great gift shop.
I loved this place , very beautiful.
The Museum is always well kept and Clean, staff Members are Friendly and helpful. Photo Gallery's of Albuquerque are first rate.
The Art displays are interesting as well as inspiring.
The Mexican Modernism exhibit was outstanding!
It is beautiful and the art is amazing. I was there for a Senior Christmas Party so my actual time of visiting the museum was limited but I the one gallery of New Mexico art was wonderful. I was enjoying the art so much I caused the van to take us back to the center to be late. I will go back again soon and spend all day.
Lots of artwork here. Came for the Frida Khalo exhibit and was delighted by the diversity of the work!
Terrific museum. Clean easy parking, easy to get to. The regular exhibits are very interesting. The Jim Henson exhibit, running till mid-April is awesome! Go and see some of your favorite characters, Bert & Ernie, the Count, Beaker and Prof. Bunsen Honeydew among others. See the storyboards used to develop others, including my personal favorite, Cookie Monster. Well worth the trip!
The conversations about species survival that 516 Arts and the Albuquerque Museum brings to our City is critical.
There are some museum-ish items but this is more of an art gallery. I meant to buy tickets to the natural history and science museum and I had children with me so it was extremely disappointing that we couldn't get a refund and go to a more interesting place. Definitely not a place for children. Gift shop employees were super nice.
Great museum; Jim Henson exhibit is neat but not really for small children.
I visited for the first time to see the Jim Henson exhibit. The exhibit was great!
Walking around the other museum exhibits was interesting. There was a lot of local art to check out and some not-so-local items. Price is not bad at all. More of an adult only museum. Might be best to warn parents about that before they come in with their strollers full of toddlers and 5 year olds - even the security guards seemed very annoyed with the kids running around unattended to.
This is a lovely, well designed museum. I'm impressed.
This is relatively good small local museum located near Old-Town, and it does occasionally have special exhibits that are interesting. The permanent collection is small but interesting, and the local history sections needs a facelift-update. Still, a good place with a cafe if you are in the area.
Great experience. They have many beautiful and varied pieces. It has sections dedicated to art and areas that go into the history of Albuquerque and it's people. There is a lot to see and some of the permanent exhibits are interactive and would be great for children. The staff is very friendly and the gift shop has really nice pieces.
The Albuquerque Museum is a tad small but stuffed with rotating exhibits about New Mexican culture. It is located within easy walking distance to other museums and Old Town. I spent about two hours there. I did rush through the section of permanent pieces as wasn't my first time there.
Great exhibits and the green chili chicken soup in the cafe, is absolutely amazing.... Especially for those who don't or can't tolerate hot green chili... The flavor texture and taste is amazing!! The Japanese Americans exhibit hall is informative and a great reminder of how not to treat citizens of our great country!!!
Wonderful venue with free music and free exhibition on 6/16. Beautiful atmosphere and great R&B Jazz band.
Such a beautiful and serene place to go view some amazing works of art! The sculpture garden is so peaceful and has a large variety of pieces. The art inside is inspiring and amazing! They have a very extensive and interesting permanent exhibit of the history of Albuquerque!
Wonderful mix of a variety of art media. Very interesting displays of the history of New Mexico. Layout of the museums' architecture is a bit confusing, so keep your map handy. Don't miss all the art outside, especially the garden/sculpture/water feature. The landscape architect deserves an award for that space.
We loved walking around the museum! It is extremely clean and well-maintained. The staff was friendly and excited to have us there. All exhibits were highly informative. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in town
If you are an artist this is the place to go. Lots of different medians and genres to view.
The Frida Kahlo exhibition is wonderful! Her paintings have such magnificent detail. Each brush stroke, each hair, leaf, face, clothing or painful expression is shown to the most minute detail. So grateful to see this exhibit in Albuquerque!
I think this was a great location to learn about the history of Albuquerque.
Wanted to visit but sadly if you aren’t a resident of New Mexico you are not allowed at the moment. The outside statues are pretty neat. And old town is close by and cool to walk around and look at
Well laid out, staff were pros and helpful. Loved the Kaloh and Rivera exhibit as well as other Mexican art. Disappointed there were no prints of the artwork available for sale.. Who needs another Chinese made souvenirs?
I am not much of a museum-goer but I have been looking forward to seeing the Jim Henson Exhibit.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The exhibit was well laid out with a nice selection of props, Muppets, historical details and behind the scenes information that literally spanned his life and career.
There is something on display for all ages.
I meandered through the rest of the museum exhibits after my trip down memory lane with the Muppets. The other exhibits are well worth your time, and do take the time to peruse the current exhibits. From historical displays of the New Mexico culture and works by New Mexican artists or about their perspective of the people and landscape, there are some really amazing works in display.
If you are a relatively new New Mexican, like myself, you owe it to yourself to visit the Resources exhibit as well as the 'Let the Sun Shine In' display focusing on Albuquerque in the late 1960's. It was groovy, man!
The second best $10 (5 for general admission and another 5 for the Jim Henson Exhibit) I have spent in a while.
The parking is free and adequate and the campus itself is a living exhibit.
Take the ti e to visit if you haven't.
Had a great visit with grandchildren who are 13 and 10. Well organized, not too many people in most exhibits. The Kahlo/Rivera exhibit was exceptional with instructive signage. Thank you ABQ Museum for bringing this stunning collection!
Visited the Kahlo/Rivera exhibit. Outstanding experience. Permanent collection only partially available. Lovely setting. Do not miss sculpture garden. Nice shop in lobby. Some affordable gifts.
Always on my itinerary when I visit Albuquerque. The museum is adjacent to Old Town and is a nice cool oasis to combine with a shopping trip to Old Town. This visit we had an excellent lunch at the museum cafe too. The cafe closes at 2 and we just made the cut off. I had a great green chile soup, and a breakfast scramble. My friend had a very fresh tasty salad.
The museum's collection is a nice introduction to current and traditional New Mexican art.
The special exhibit while we were there was about Japanese Americans in New Mexico during WWII, including some of the journals and sketches that were done at internment camps
Another surprisingly wonderful place in Albuquerque. There is currently a Jim Henson exhibit there, which was fantastic (especially so for someone who grew up with Sesame Street and the Muppet Show). The art galleries are also very nice, not big city size and quality, but gives you a pretty good selection of art of the southwest. I recommend setting aside several hours on a couple occasions to get a good overview of what they have to offer.
The Frida Khalo exhibit is here at the time we visited the museum. There are some premium pictures especially lovely is Frieda with her monkeys. If you haven't seen it yet, don't hesitate to get tickets, you will regret missing it if you love her work as I do. ..the dresses I believe are reproductions, but so very lovely, it's no wonder people stopped to look at her..stunning.
The temporary Jim Henson exhibit was fantastic. Didn't spend a lot of time in the rest of the museum, but I'm not sure I could spend a whole lot of time there without a special exhibit. Price is definitely reasonable though.
Any time that I go to Old Town I make it a point to also come here. I don't know how they do it, but every show I've seen at this museum has been top notch. Heck I even saw a student photo show here once and it was amazing. The Albuquerque Museum is a real gem in town and completely worth the visit!
The Frida Khalo exhibit was absolutely amazing. Once in a lifetime, for sure.
Such an amazing museum! The exhibits and art that are normally there are wonderful. I also go when they have something special. I went when they had the Jim Henson exhibit, it was so wonderful!
Incredible. The outside sculpture garden and walkways are free. Inside exhibits are amazing. $4 to 6 for entry.
The Jim Henson exhibit was a visit down memory lane
Great exhibition of Indian art and jewelry curated extremely well. Lots of interesting items on display. Also, the building is beautiful and very functional. I would like to go back before the exhibit is over. There were lots of donated items from local collections.
The museum has a good staff.
We took UBER to the museum and back to the hotel. Efficient and affordable. Much more pleasant than taxis were in the past; friendly, clean cut drivers and clean cars.
Excellent museum with beautiful art and impressive sculptures. They had a very nice exhibit of jewelry on display when we visited. The museum also displays the history of New Mexico and Albuquerque, which was very interesting.
Lovely art museum with multiple exhibits, snack bar, museum store. Features free music and activities for special events.
Though I am not a huge fan of art, it's historic exhibit was incredible. You can learn a lot there while having a great time.
Early on Sundays there is no entry fee so there is no excuse not to give it a try!
I was there on the first Wednesday of the month in which entrance is free! It was good because not all the exhibits were open. What was viewable was new Mexican art of different styles. It has a very early Georgia O'Keeffe and a surprising Warhol! Everything else was honestly a little underwhelming.
Amazing!!! A must see! Check out the Jim Henson (The Muppets, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth) exhibit - $5 extra ($10 total entrance fee for NM residents), and SO worth it!! Give yourself lots of time, and don't worry, they have a great little cafe if you get hungry like we did, and a beautiful gift store. Enjoy!!!
We adore our local art museum! Great displays. Interesting local expressions. Cool gift shop. Great location in old town near the plaza. Exhibits for kids also! We will always visit again and again and again.
Love this museum! So fascinating for a new resident. The satellite view of the city inlaid into the floor is just fascinating, and I love seeing all the cool iconic things about the town. The special exhibit of silver and turquoise jewelry was utterly exquisite.
Great experience! Delicious lunch at Slate, slide show on lecture on the carvings of Zuni artist Leevya, then to see the exhibit of his and others' carvings, jewelry, and fetishes. Amazing!! When leaving the exhibit, lovely music in the lobby, and all the fun things to view and consider in the gift store. All good!
Was great took my parent and nephew there
I loved it. So much to see. Wed is free admission day which made it even better
OMG!! This has to be one of the best city museums in the USA. From special exhibits to the phenomenal new Mexico art, this place has it all. On too of that we had a husband and wife docent team. They were thorough, knowledgeable and fun to boot. The museum is kayed out very well and logically. Plan on spending 2-3 delightful hours absorbing the cultural and artistic history of new Mexico.
Visited for the Frida and Diego Rivera exhibit loved it!!
It is a lovely museum, and the Jim Henson Exhibition is very well done and informative. The rest of the museum is wonderful also. It's organized with an intuitive layout, and filled with gorgeous and compelling works of art!
Very interesting and informative. Took my girls and had fun
A great place to go if you like art and wanna support local artists. The price for NM residents is also very reasonable. I don't think they charge much more for out of towners and they have free admission on certain days.
Always love going here. They have had some wonderful special exhibits.
We were in Albuquerque for 1 day and had a great family trip to the museum. Kids learned a lot and had fun with the build your own art glasses station. Nice mix of art and history. Reasonable admission and a free walking tour of Old Town.
Now, entry is for free every Sunday. I do not know for how long. But today, among others, expositions included the Transcendental Painting Group (Kandinsky), which included work of NM artists and those who picked New Mexico as their second home and studio.
Always a pleasure to walk through the Albuquerque Museum. There is always a rotation of new art. Every part of the museum felt very accessible.
If you're visiting Albuquerque, you have to visit this place. It ought to be mandatory. The quality of the exhibits is absolutely top notch, especially the "Only in Albuquerque" section. You will learn so much about the city, the land and the people who call it home. There's also an outstanding collection of New Mexican art here. Equally fun and fascinating for kids and adults.
I wanted to see an exhibit by an artist here. I never had the pleasure of attending. I lost out. However, one week before the exhibit ended, I sent a letter to the artist c/o the museum. I received an E mail from the artist within 4 days. The museum staff was friendly and obviously helpful. I was impressed. I was unable to attend the exhibit, but they helped put me in touch with the artist. I loved it.
One of the best museums to visit. Their rotation of art is crazy they get amazing stuff from some the best galleries in the world and it changes every few months so you can always swing by to see new things. Plus they have an area for new local artist.
This museum contains collections of art that represents New Mexico as a whole. The admission fee for Adults is $6, and it is definitely worth the price. The exhibits are wonderful to look at and the descriptions are thorough.
Art to suit anyone's taste, also many exhibits geared towards New Mexico's history and culture. The limited time Jim Henson exhibit was really neat and is great for children and adults alike!
If you're a resident, you are allowed in but you have to buy tickets online (go figure) . It's a nice museum if you want to know some New Mexico history and some Mexico history as well.
I think the Albuquerque Museum is just the right size to spend a few hours, or stay longer; it's not overwhelming. The exhibits center on New Mexico, covering predominantly New Mexican contemporary & its founding artists. It also features the state's history through art, and has had enough variety for anyone: for instance the role the railway and Route 66 played in shaping the city. I enjoyed the space & flow from one medium sized room to another, plus its 2 large galleries. It also has a great little restaurant tucked into a corner of the lobby.
The Albuquerque Museum is a must see in Albuquerque for tourists and locals alike. They have world class exhibits and a newly renovated permanent vacation. The staff is super helpful and informative. They have free days for local New Mexicans. A great place for culture and beautiful artwork.
Nice place, beautiful art, history of New Mexico; might not be the best for little kids though as a lot of the exhibits are within touching distance and the kids are drawn to it. Security knows if one is even too close to the wall...
A wonderful experience, I think everyone should see this museum, it is very educational. It has some amazing displays. We talked about it all day when we left, we learned so much. There is so much to see can't wait to go back.
Went to see the Mabel Dodge Lujan and company exhibit and was delighted by all the other beautiful exhibits as well. It was wonderful to learn more about New Mexico's history. I feel that the museum has a lot of interactive aspects that would be great for children too.
Albuquerque Museum - treat yourself when you're visiting New Mexico and soak up the creativity and beauty at this place. The security guards are friendly and helpful, and the collections of art are inspiring. I will visit again soon.
Had a great time with our visit to the museum
Stumbled on this place by mistake but am elated I did. It was fascinating and I learned a lot- despite not being a person who like a museums (this was the only one I saw in ABQ) I recommend it to anyone interested in art. The new Mexico art exhibit was my favorite.
Enjoyed the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit. Very friendly and accommodating. Lots of space to enjoy the art with Covid-19 still a presence. There was even more than just Frida and Diego to enjoy. Go see some of the NM artists as well.
We had a wonderful experience. The art featured was an eclectic blend of genres. The building was well organized, very clean and creatively designed. I strongly recommend .
Stunning architecture and some decent sculptures throughout. A great collection of New Mexico's top artists. Admission price is reasonable. The gift shop is almost worth the trip on its own.
Nice place, good exhibits and a killer venue for shows. Third Thursday is free with music. I recommend it.
A truly ideal environ for which spending time amongst Loved ones in Albuquerque clearly calls for. As a spiritual endeavor unlike any other this locale and popular travel destination are always inundated with worldly guests. Always new and interesting spectacles for all ages and is also right next door to historic Old Town, whereby one can easily find themselves anew in the heart of Albuquerque. A great scenic and tourist destination unlike any other for all travelers alike.
Nice place for a stroll. The permanent art collection space is limited, but they get some great temporary exhibits. The Albuquerque history area is well done, and the gift shop is top-notch. They have some great live music performances during the summer at their outdoor amphitheatre.
I went to the Albuquerque Museum today. They have all kinds of exhibits at the Albuquerque Museum. I liked all of the paintings and photographs that they had up on their walls. I will definitely go back to see all the different types of exhibits that they put on at the Albuquerque Museum.
We loved this gem - an eclectic range of quality art. The section devoted to the history of the local area was well done and informative, you could walk through or stop at each item, either way a great experience. Right next to a park and Old Town, a nice way to spend the day.
The Albuquerque Museum often has fascinating exhibits whether permanent, travelling, or temporary. My wife (a jeweler) and I went to see the American Jewelry from New Mexico exhibit before it left in October. Loved the historic discussion of jewelry development in New Mexico and was fascinated by the modern contemporary jewelry. Added bonus that it's free to New Mexico residents on Sundays! Always a great place to learn something new.
The muppet exhibit was awesome!
If you are learning about the history and diverse and rich cultures of New Mexico and Albuquerque, this is the place to come and explore. They have many permanent exhibits as well as a special rotating exhibition. Artifacts, pictures and stories gathered from around the area and how the town came to be and prosper as well as its distinctive flavor of vibrant life. There is a gift shop and cafe in the museum as well.
Went to salsa under the stars. It was good, HOT but good... head inside to cool off if needed.
Excellent small gallery and museum. Really worth an hour or two. Love the sculpture garden outside as well. Only $2 admission for seniors. Nice small gift shop. Worth a stop.
An amazing museum of art and history with pleasant surprises at every corner! Such a gem of a museum with an amazing value. I always enjoy checking out the community art area as well!
Albuquerque Museum is a place to pass the time if you have nothing to do for the day. Every time I have gone there I enjoy it and there is plenty to see. You could spend a day there he’s only going through everything. Recommend to all very educational.
Love this museum. My family had a great time. We learned so much. Oh such an amazing place. So sorry to see this lady scoldung my daugther because sge was making an "annoying" sound with the chile roaster that the museum has to be used. Sorry people if you get annoyed by these kind of behaviours, please dont do go to places that are hand on and could be loud for you.
A truly excellent small city museum!
Love, love, love!! We go every few months!!
Summer music here cannot be beat. The venue is not too big and they have drinks n food.
Great prices to see such wonderful treasures! However, the signage around the artifacts should read, " Stay behind the line" versus "Do not touch." We realized this after being admonished by the security guard for admiring the works too closely.
Small museum, but what they had was good and the old town walking tour leaving from the museum was incredible!! The tour alone was worth more than the $6 admission. Plus old town parking is $5, but that same parking is free with museum admission.
Different galleries make up this interesting & informative museum. New rotating gallery just opened a few days ago. Allow for time to see everything & the sculpture garden in the front. Ticket also includes entrance to Casa San Ysidro.
Frida Kahlo is a must see. Lovely space, easy to park, navigate, shop for gifts, and open air food next door. An inspiring morning or afternoon.
A lot more impressive than I realized. Many beautiful works. Loved the Frida exhibit, and all the permanent gallery pieces very interesting as well. Lovely building.
Do not miss the east atrium sculpture garden. Take in the space itself, in conjunction with the pieces. A real metaphysical (in the philosophic sense of the word) experience - like stepping into a sort of southwestern de Chirico.
Affordable and a wonderful experience! I enjoyed the Jim Henson exhibit so much. The whole nurses is wonderful to see. Definitely check for free days!
Had a really great tour of the Jim Henson exhibit. Our tour guide Karil did an amazing job keeping us excited and informed. Thank you ABQ museum!
It's been a long time since I visited and with family in town for the first time, it was the perfect place to spend a rainy day. We loved it, the historical photos are my favorite along with the public art installations. A must see.
A beautiful place with a wonderful outdoor amphitheater!
I'm giving this place 3 stars but it really isn't their fault. I'm rating it low because it really is a bit tiny. I've been to art museums all across the country and in comparison, this one is very small, especially for a state known for its art. I imagine that the reason for the size is a lack of funding but it still didn't change my disappointment at being finished with the entire museum in about an hour (and that counts spending a lot of time deliberately examining each piece, reading its information, etc.) The reason why it gets 3 stars and not something even lower is that it does have a nice selection of pieces for a wide palette of appeal and I did like the bit of ABQ history thrown in.
Wide variety of classic and modern art and home decor.
Really enjoyed the museum. The Dr Seuss exhibit was phenomenal. The amount of permanent art has been expanded too. Lots of great pieces to see.
The Museum shop is a go to place for holiday and special gifts for you and/or the extra special people or pets in your life. Always find the perfect gift❤
The museum itself is easily accessible and we only went into the Natural Museum of Science and History. We went to see DaVinci's exhibit. The draw was a television commercial advertising that this was the greatest collection of DaVinci creation in the world. The display was more like Ned and the first reader without one real artifact included. There is a dinosaur in the lobby though and some minerals on display to the right. I suggest walking the area to find better exhibits.
You can book and rent portions of the Albuquerque Museum for your special event.
In November 2019, we booked the Grand Lobby, 7,500 sq. feet, of the Albuquerque Museum for a celebration of my late wife's life arranged as a happy fiesta for February 21st 2020 from 7:00-9:30pm for 70 guests. The Lobby is a huge spectacular room with a high ceiling. On its South wall there are 3D murals that are lit from within at night which makes the whole room look festive. The lobby has a hard floor, so it is perfect for live music, in our case the 6 player band Mariachi Nuevo Sonido. The Museum arranged the floor plan of the lobby exactly as we asked. BTW the Museum needs to allow 3 weeks to get the particular floor plan of events approved by the Fire Marshal, so they cannot do last minute rentals. If you wish to have alcohol served at your event, this alcohol service has to be done through the Slate Street Café. Slate can also catered your event, which what we did and we were delighted with how it turned out. But you can have other approved caters do the catering instead. My family and I were delighted with how it all turned out, and the Museum staff did an excellent job for their parts of the event. If you want a spectacular special event, in central ABQ, that runs smoothly without issues, then aM is a very good choice.
Very cool museum with great staff and a clear storyline through the exhibition.
Beautiful place! The environment was welcoming and clean. The Albuquerque museum school art class (at 1:00 pm every Saturday) was especially amazing. The food at slate street café was a bit expensive but worth it. I reccomend the delicious B.L.A.S.T wrap. 5 starts.
I loved the Albuquerque rooms. The floor with the arial photo of the city was very cool. The old wedding dress made from a parachute was remicient of one my mother made out of a surplus WWII parachute.
Always a fun experience. The staff are always nice and helpful. The facilities are very clean. Lots of things for kids of all ages to spend their time, while also learning something new.
Renovated a few years ago - an absolutely extraordinary space with cutting edge exhibits!
Was a real treat reliving my childhood while enjoying the Jim Henson exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum. So many memories all wrapped up in one show it was amazing. And the costumes from the Labyrinth movie that David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly wore were the cherry on the ice cream sundae! It had been many years since I have been to the museum, and they have remodeled it. The finished product is refreshing and nicely modern. It was a breath of fresh air. There was also a very good video on the life of Chester Nez, the Navajo Code talker. The unsung hero's, who tend to go unnoticed in the daily hoopla of hollywood "heros" of today's youth. Yes, Albuquerque Museum, you have really taken advantage of all our tax dollars. Its about time.
A great museum, always like the New Mexican art exhibit as well as new, rotating exhibits
Lost of galleries to take in, with a rolling selection of items to view. I went during one of their "Third Thursdays", where you can get in free, and there is additional entertainment and light refreshments available as well. Take a tour of their sculpture garden - it seems to have a variety of different genres.
The showing was called Dreams Unreal: The Genesis of the Psychedelic Rock.
dreams on rail explorers the development of counterculture in San Francisco from 1965 to1970 through the posters, handbills and post cards that were printedto advertise music performances and events. The intersection of music and the art became Central to the youth culture The fosters social and cultural experimentation. A group of young visual artist collaborated with commercial lithographers to create these printed materials for almost daily events at venues like the Fillmore and the Avalon featuring musicians and bands like the grateful Dead, Jefferson airplane, sonata Santana, Janis Joplin, big brother, and the holding company and others
It was informative and had photographic artwork from Albuquerque included. That was nice to see. It was Albuquerque in it's early days. I really enjoyed this showing and I am looking forward to the next showing which is Jim Henson's Muppets. I will definitely be coming back to the Albuquerque Museum.
Much art. Many paint. Such museum.
Seriously, great place. Great collection. Beautiful complex. Some of the exhibits are good for kids, some aren't. Always friendly staff. Highly recommended
Nice blend of historical and contemporary art pieces. The sculpture garden is a great way to start your visit, the move inside the building to view the exhibition.
Cheap tickets and lots of nice photos.
A great place to go and find peace and great art. They also have a great art school for kids under 12. My kids love the art classes and the teachers are really good with the kids and teach them information on art that they would not get in public school.
Keep an eye out for wonderful special exhibitions. Also what you can see of their permanent collection is good too.
The Jim Henson, Muppet creator, presentation is lovingly displayed. Cost is $5 plus regular museum admission but we'll worth it. The museum is beautifully laid out.
Dancing under the Stars excellent outside event. Masks required indoors but not outside. Good music and great snacks
I play Pokemon Go, so I've never actually been inside this building but I'm giving it 5 ⭐ because their security is pretty respectful and will nicely ask that you don't wander around the property after hours, and then they'll ask if you could please stay on the sidewalk instead.
Cool exhibits. Parking right outside is free. It is right by old town so when we were done we went to old town for dinner. It was a pretty great place and had a few interactive things for the kids.
Fantastic museum exhibiting historical items and art. There are placks describing all of the exhibits. Amazing to think about the work involved in and changing all the all the exhibits. There are seven rooms, each with it's own theme.
It was great to see Mr. Henson's daughter and hear some of her wonderful memories of such a great entertainer. The exhibit was truly remarkable as well!
Very interesting and informative exhibits, with many kid-friendly interactive features. I myself discovered a lot of things about Albuquerque's history. The jewelry exhibit is a gem!
History and Art all in one. Excellent displays.

Always "an experience" at an "art museum". Although it is not specifically labled an art museum (it used to be, years ago) the focus is art, local & regional historical/cultural.
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder as much of current (modern) cultural/historical art is impressionistic and usually not much better presented than kindergarten craft. True art takes talent, training, and effort, not just a personal expression of an internal perversion of perspective . . .
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to see the whole museum, but the Jim Henson exhibit was awesome. It took me back to childhood. Love those Muppets!
The Visions of the Hispanic World exhibit is outstanding. I'm pleased that our museum is able to provide exhibits such as this one.
The facility is well maintained.
You could spend the whole day there! The art is so beautiful and captivating.
Excellent small museum with multiple interesting exhibits, and a nice sculpture garden outside.
Really great place to start off your day. Coffee there is kinda expensive though.
Good exhibit of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera until May. Well worth the $10. I did wish to see more Major Works of the two of them.
I'll rate the Museum for the use I get from it, which is not its intended purpose. I use the Museum to hunt for Pokemon, and restock with their pokestops outside. If you're handicapped, there is a spot in their parking lot that is in range of four pokestops. This is a great place to plant yourself on community day if you are a handicapped Pokemon player.
Great museum that recollects and honors Albuquerque and New Mexico history. The gamut of all that history is put into perspective and shows how truly incredible it is from a New Mexican's point of view.
Live going to this museum. Appreciate the work they do to bring different exhibits in. Its not just but history information as well.
It's a great please to learn about the culturally diverse people that make up the land of enchantment. Today I saw Jews in Albuquerque. The exhibition takes you from the 1800-1990's. Wonderful artifacts that show the rise of this community.
Seduced out of the mid-July heat by the Southwestern Jewelry exhibit. Very cool on two counts. Whatever the current show (plus the museum's own collection), it's never disappointing.
The Jim Henson exhibit is great!
Great Jewelry exhibition was fantastic! Ronda Coryell has one of my favorite pieces she made on exhibition. She won the Saul Bell award for it and it still floors me in it's detail, design and Craftsmen (Craftwoman) ship. I enjoyed the history of the native art jewelry up to present day pieces!
Was really informative and fun art project
I loved Frida Kahlo exhibit,Diego Rivera exhibit,a great use of time, interesting and enjoyable. Also visit Old Town and support our local shops!
This is a beautiful museum, well worth the stop. The Visions of the Hispanic World exhibit was amazing. Easy walking distance to Old Abq.
I think android os was pulling the wrong museum to review. Edit...We love this museum the art classes for the kids are first rate. The free weekday (evenings) events with music is alot of fun.
I found the city of Albuquerque exhibit a bit disorganizing as it is organized by unconventional catergories, and by time within each category. It would help to know this in advance. Some specific item descriptions were typing size font behind glass, unreadable to me. The exhibit on the WW ll on the detention of Americans of Japanese decent was riveting and I have seen several exhibits and film on this subject before. Not busy on a thursday, only $4 for seniors. Cafe on site.
Its okay, they have a couple fun interactive things for kids. Some parts of it were not as great. But I did really enjoy part 4 and 5 of the museum.
Very nice beautiful day got my car in the Albuquerque Museum car show lots of cars fantastic show out
Amazing collection. A great view into the history of Albuquerque and New Mexico...
Paid for salsa under the stars, rain and lighting canceled the show. NO REFUND OR RAIN CHECK, NOT COOL.
The NM Museum of Natural History. We visited Wednesday before Thanksgiving and we had a great educational time with our grandchildren. I recommend it along with the Nuclear Museum on Base.
Had a lot of information about Albuquerque and those who founded it. Museums are always fun, it's awesome to learn about what shaped where we are today.
Lovely museum, enjoyed very much
At the time of this writing, they have a Frida Kahlo exhibit which is really cool. The museum itself is a really nice facility
It's a nice regional museum with some good exhibits and some purely political ones. Lots of open space, and seems to be set up more to provide venue location than exhibitions.
A great museum that celebrates the culture of NM.
My Family and I had a wonderful time. We walked around Old Town Albuquerque and enjoyed the sights. Its a quaint and beautiful place with lots of history and great shops.
I have been away for a while and this museum is more of an art + history museum now. Oriented at pleasing familes. Nice displays. Love the outdoor sculptures.
Great place. Lots of different galleries with focuses on different areas. Gallery 4 is all new mexico artists that lived here. Gallery 6 i think is just about albuquerque, which is really cool. Gallery across from 6 is how new mexico helped during Americas independence. Place is awesome and i will defiently come back.
Was ok. Nothing spectacular. And 2 of the exhibits had non-working air conditioning. Still, for the price, one of the better things to do in Abq.
I got a free pass from the local library(good for a week and need a library card) and it was enjoyable and nice. This was handicapped accessible, which was good since I went with a friend who needed that, and the place itself is lovely.
Great Mexican Modernism exhibit, which includes Frida & Diego, also there is a separate exhibit on Jose Guadalupe Posada, who invented the Catrina , skull lady of Day of the Dead, who used many skull figures in political cartoons. He will be known now primarily for the Catrina figure of the Day of the Dead
Loved the Frida Kahlo exhibit! The exhibit of the Mexican Satirical Press was of great interest! Make it a point to visit the exhibit before it ends!
What can i say. Most interesting museum I have even been in. A must see. Brings history and current times together. So much to see and small entrance fee. Totally worth it.
Nicely decorated and arranged. Albuquerque specific, however there is a museum-worth of items inside. Really like the sculptures in the front lawn/terrace.
I brought the kids and had a wonderful time on Third Thursday. The music and the painting in a beautiful space was very enjoyable!
What an amazing resource and collection for the residents and visitors to Albuquerque. I learned so much about the history of this place and its people. If you are a new resident of Albuquerque, you NEED to visit here and then take the trolley tour out of Hotel Albuquerque to get a full overview of where you live.
Thank you so much for everything you did for our students ❤️ you all made our unexpected trip so great.
Great place to go to see wonderful art exhibits and learn history of Albuquerque . Do need to make an appointment right now due to covid.
It was a nice sized art museum. I took my teenagers and they enjoyed reading the signs describing the pictures. Ok, they laughed (quietly) but it made for a fun afternoon.
Pretty cool. Admission was $10. No large bags. Lockers available. Spent a good 2 hours here.
Always like going to the museum bit whoever puts all of it together need to check their facts. There were many things I noticed that we're not right. Remember, our children learn from you on school field trips. Don't let them learn an incorrect history. Check and recheck what you put out as fact.
Beautiful museum, the Muppets exhibition was wonderful! Modern, clean and traditional to New Mexico culture. A must visit!
A well designed museum that allows you to easily move through the exhibits. Very interesting and beautiful art work. Worth a two hour visit.
It's Fab! Make a reservation! Amor Mucho.
NM Jazz Ochestra under the stars! Benefiting the youth Jazz Honor Band with Hillary Smith! It was awesome!
I have always loved this museum. It has been one of my favorites since I was a little girl. It blows my mind at how much it has changed in 15 years!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE FRIDA KAHLO EXHIBIT #WORD #BEAUTIFUL It was exquisitely done THANK YOU #NEWMEXICOLOVE #AUTHOR #MEDICALMARIJUANASAVEDMYLIFE #EBOOK #AUDIOBOOK @AMAZON.COM
The black history month talks were awesome! Exhibition, always well done.
The Jim Henson exhibit is wonderful if you're here before April 2020. All the time, don't miss the Only in Albuquerque exhibit!
Always incredible exhibits, never a disappointment! Love this museum! Really enjoyed the psychedelic posters🌈 and Jim Henson exhibits! 😁 …
I love this event every year. Ivon Ulibarri y Cafe mocha does an amazing show every year. See us next year
Beautiful art, interesting history and right in Old Town.
The Jim Henson experience was good. My granddaughter enjoyed it especially well. A lot of good history regarding Henson and the Muppets.
Proud to have this museum in my city. Worth a visit every month or so to check out the new exhibits and the under the stars events
Had a great time here, and it was interesting for the whole family. They've done a superb job creating these exhibits.
The muppet exhibit is great
Cool little museum! Took forever to pay for tickets but the exhibits were intense.
Loved that art was not confined to inside the walls nor outside but chained off. We were walking through the area & got to enjoy some lovely outdoor pieces.
The Mexican Modernism exhibit was beautiful! Well written and designed. The artwork was superb;
Great place to relax and enjoy. Free for residents every Sunday until 1 pm and the first Wednesday of the month.
Jim Henson Experience at the Albuquerque Museum
Jim Henson exhibit was absolutely fabulous! My sister and I went. Brought back memories! Lots of fun!!
Last week to see Luís Jiménez lithographs. Very worthwhile.
The Albuquerque Museum has a great mix of historical, cultural, and artistic pieces on display. Taking it in really does give a sense of the social milieu of this city.
Saw the Frida collection here. Fun place to visit to see works of art from all over. Great place to wind down a bit from life.
The Muppets exhibit is wonderful. There is even hands part where you can try your hand at puppeteering using video like the show does.
This Jim Henson exhibit is fantastic! Seeing these puppets up close is a treat. A real trip down memory lane. A must see!!
With ever changing exhibits, an amphitheater, and more, be sure to check out this museum on your next visit to Old Town, Albuquerque! If you check out the website, you will find free days and hours!
Very nice you can take your children various things to see just to get away if I remember pretty sure they have something going on weekends music like music and a restaurant or maybe it's just a gift shop
Awesome exhibits. Went for Jim Henson exhibit was not disappointed, but also got to see more great art!!
It is a inspiring place to see.
The Jim Henson exhibit is not to be missed. The rest of the museum takes you back to days when life was simpler for all of us.
Small but wonderful
Highly recommend it, great southwest art
They have a good online system for tickets now that ensures that the museum will only have a dozen or so people in it at anytime.
Free Sunday mornings to NM residents. They have great exhibitions that change every month of so. Great place to keep coming back.
Always loved the Albuquerque Museum!! The best was the billy the kid exhibit!! Hopefully it comes back one day!!
Great small museum. Nice combination of art and local history. Quality permanent collection, and interesting rotating exhibits. Great gift shop and restaurant.
Love to look at the displays they have here. My family and I think it's a great time. We always recommend to friends.
So worth a visit, the exhibit's were educational and eclectic, whimsical. I loved every minute of it.
Loved the place. Unique in itself. Gallery 4 was the best if you want to know more about the history of New Mexico
This is a great museum. I particularly liked the exhibit from the Palace of Governors Museum in Santa Fe. The artwork in their standard collection was also interesting, as well
Great destination for locals and tourists alike.
Smallish but very nice little museum. I was with a 6 & an 8 yo boys, and there were enough hands on stuff that they stayed interested.
Always interesting & always changing, The Albuquerque Museum Of Art & History is a wealth of the past, present & future. The NM history aspect of the exhibits are fun to revisit over & over & the new shows are always varied & exciting.
First timers should plan about two hours but if you have been here before plan on an hour.
I have enjoyed every exhibition that I've seen here. They are on the small side; a pleasant way to spend a few hours for this art lover.
Came here for a field trip with my students. The docents were kind and informative. They were also patient, my students had a lot to ask and say, and the docents answered as many as they could
Wow, what a great place. Jim Henson exhibit was beautiful. Going in Sunday for free just tops it off.
A great and must see Museum. We were lucky to see the Spanish exhibition also. It was excellent.
Beautiful cultural hot spot in Albuquerque, located near the picturesque and historical Old Town section of the city. And admittance is free before one p.m. on Sundays.
Good museum with a big local flare. There isn't a big variety in the art work. This art museum is very New Mexico centric
