Reviews of Smithfield Foods, Inc.
Very big facility. Very fast unloading. Was there for 30 minutes
3 star because they take the trailer a day before appointment. They need a wash out ticket. Be sure fill up fuel tank. They scale a the exit.
Security is really nice they explain everything really well in detail also shipping was a breeze if doing a drop and hook the loaded trailer yard is pretty tight between trailers but tons of space to maneuver out front.
I was delivering a Dry Van load there a couple weeks ago and had lost my bill of lading and and Blake Quantis at the gaurd shack helped me print a new one. He really went over and above and I really appreciate his help. He was very friendly and helpful. You don't find people like him in trucking very often anymore or things sure would go alot smoother. Without his help I wouldn't be able to deliver the load and Smithfield would not have gotten their product on time so so thanks Blake really appreciate it. His employee number is 529828
I got lucky, in and out for an hour. But, I have dry van, that may be the reason. They dont do live unload any more.
Been 34 years since I been with your company I believe it was John morrell the best place I experienced it was the hambone department thank you kindly Kayla Bianas
Little odd going in and getting to the shipping office. Other than that easy backing and friendly staff. Loads come out at or about your DDT.
Called Quantis at security who was very helpful. Gave me the number to shipping and was very friendly and informative
As an employee pay is excellent starting and goin strong.. this a great place to work!!
Good pay and benefits especially when you compare it to other companies.
Enough working hours 9+ based on the department and how you want it.
Rough start always but when you get to get used to the employees and the surrounding ,you will feel at home .
There are cons where there are pro but I will leave it for now✌🏿
Pretty quick in and out
They load me very fast. I was out in an hour
Most importantly, don’t forget to washout your trailer before check in otherwise they will send you back. Get the washout receipt and show them at security.
Looks like it would be a nice place to land a carrer great suport system
Update: The person who runs this place personally called me and assured me that this problem would be taken care of. The next time I went in, all of the rude signs were pulled off the wall, and there was a calm feeling in the shipping office. I have gone back several times, and ya know what..? Karen has been really nice. She has been helpful. And she told me to have a safe trip last time. It's not just because I was loud and made this review. I have heard many drivers saying she has changed. I didn't really want her to lose her job, but I did want her to have some self reflection. And it appears she did. I'm looking forward to next time I go see her, and I hope we can have a good professional relationship moving forward.
Original: Karen in the shipping department is the rudest person I've ever met in my entire life. Think I'm being dramatic? I'm not. She was so hateful. If everyone on Earth acted like her, I would have offed myself a long time ago. Why do you continue to employ someone who makes everyone she encounters miserable???
I told the security guard Jason about it on the way out. He looked like he has to hear it multiple times a day. He was nice and apologetic. Actually, everyone and I mean everyone that I meet at this warehouse is so nice. Except her. Get rid of her!
Went in to make sure that they were still going to call me and the office lady with long gray hair was rude and didn't give me a chance to really explain. Drivers hear, "we'll call when it's ready" all the time and only get called 95% of that time. Don't take it out on a driver that has been sitting at your facility since 2:30 pm the day before waiting on YOUR shipment just because you haven't had a good morning. I hadn't had the best morning either however I remained polite to you!!! The rest of the staff that I dealt with was polite and understood how frustrating it was for me. I gave them three stars because most were pleasant to deal with. One rude old lady in the office can totally make or break the reviews that you're facility get!!!
Got me in and out quick, entrance is down south. Lots of pedestrian crossings and very busy so stay on high alert. There's a Loves with a Blue Beacon about 3.4 miles away, they require a washout receipt or will not let you on property with an empty.
Truck drivers: make sure your load is ready or else you could be sitting around for up to 8 hours. Also...I don't appreciate being yelled at when the fault lies with disorganized office personnel. They "misplaced" my trailer back into a dock... All I did was ask to make sure it was actually finished. I was screamed at. I tell the office what happened and, well... Per usual, the driver is the one who has to deal with it. Thank you, sausage place. You reminded me just how much I hate my job and wish I could punch someone for disrespecting me. Good for you I'm homeless and can't afford to lose this stupid job.
Honestly it's safe we wear face mask ,shield people walking 6 feet they have covid moniter, they control everything, they have everywhere sanitizer, great benefits visit us you like it!!!
I was lucky. Got loaded in 1 h. Good.
People working there are nice folks. There is a Loves about 2-3 miles around the corner. It has a Blue Beacon washout and CAT scale. Just be aware that if you're picking up a load, get ready to sit...and sit some more. Charge the brokers accordingly.
Takes a while to get your load but the notorious mean shipping office personnel that everyone talks about was not mean at all. I had them laughing with a few jokes and everything went smooth. Karen was very kind to me and the rest of the staff there was just as well. I would've gave it a 4 but I got there on a Thursday and didn't leave until Saturday afternoon. OK I change my mind and gave you a 4 because the DLD was for Sunday.... I will blame that one on Stevens Transport and the planner just for that weekend.... LOL
Picked up here twice. Both times was ez pz. Staff were all very nice. Read reviews. You may have to drop a day early.
Great place to work if you can handle the odors. Some parts of the plant have the delicious aromas of different beacons being cured, smoked and prepared do they are ready to be served from our family to yours. Has excellently prices employee store were many of the products that are made here are discounted to unbelievable price as an extra perk for the employees.
Working here wasn't all that bad.. you earned respect with the knowledge you have about the job or jobs you can do.. but... It's hard to keep going back everyday and being on a point system sucks.. even being sick you still get a point.. I never liked the whole "gotta be on the line at this time or your late" mind you I enjoyed the jobs.. just wished headphones were an option.. it's not like everyone can speak English and sometimes you can catch ppl talking about you in there language.. mud in the water, not a big deal.. but other than negative things.. the workers there are friendly.. women are beautiful but married.. long hours but more money in your pocket. And there are some cool managers in there! Thinking about going back but I don't think I'd stay as long as I did before
Everyone saying that the lady's are rude ...
Guess it's how you talk to them I load here 2 times a month and always been nice to me ..good place just be sure to have a wash out recipe
Drivers. Try to drop trailer before appt here. So you do not need to wait up to a day for load.
Tight quarters. 10 mph speed limit. Gravel lot for empty trailers is rough and uneven. Loaded trailers are on concrete.
Doesn't smell to bad today. Need your trailer washed out and receipt to prove it. Go to walnut st. a few blocks away going north for a cheaper washout. It's near the end of walnut on the right. GPS it and no problem.
The worst Company !!!.
poor management 99%of Production Managers are so rude, unprofessional and undisciplined. I
Drop trailer. Loaded in an hour. Great staff, dispatch is very helpful for drivers to plan thete day.
This plant is well taken care of. Everyone here seems happy and willing to help you with anything you need. Great place for employees.
As a truck driver. My Experience was nice simple and quick. In and out. Didnt have to get out the truck at guard shack.
We've been going in there for a little over 3 years since signing on with JFI & it's been Karen everytime in the shipping office who gives me my bills I have NEVER NEVER NEVER had her be rude with me ~ I often wonder about these reviews perhaps it's the attitude you go into shipping offices with that's the problem NOT the shipping clerks ~ Just Saying!!!
Smithfield is an awesome working environment. My family and friends work there, it has a good health Care, 401K and good retirement benefits. I would hardly recommend people to work there.
Everything went pretty well, had to drop trailer and leave the premises and go to a truck stop. Came back after the call and hooked up and left
As a K&J Driver, i love hauling out of Smithfield. They call you and tell you when the wagon is loaded.
Very protected at the entrance gate. It bothers me that the hog trucks unload right there but the property is clean and well organized.
I work at Smith field it's a fair place to make a paycheck.they are really trying to make it safe and keep the spread of corona vires from spending
Great place, shipping/receiving clerks are nice....would rated a 5star but the security guy seems.to have issues with who I am..
It just takes a long time for loading. I cannot complain about the staff.
This location has shutdown for the next 2 weeks due to high number of CV cases. God Bless those employees
Very friendly clerks in shipping. Even after a snafu in loading. It was handled quickly.
Have been there 3times for business.
It was one of the oldest meat plants before Smithfield took it.
Smithfield hires hundreds of Sioux Falls residents. We are lucky to have them in Sioux Falls.
The people who are working here are some of the best in the meat packing industry
