If you live in or are visiting Grand Rapids and need a massage, look no further. Urban Massage is wonderful. I don't even live in GR but have been here 3 times, specifically to see Sara, and will continue to come back when I'm in town visiting family. The atmosphere is incredible, feels like a cozy modern den retreat. A place a person can really relax. The staff is so sweet and welcoming, the receptionist is also a favorite. Sara really takes her time to listen to ensure my time with her is spent where I need it most. I have family members who have gone to other therapists there and they said the same thing. My husband and I had massages at a popular spa in Chicago that failed tremendously in comparison to Urban Massage. Do yourself a favor, book an appointment and treat yourselves.

Urban Massage is a little oasis in Creston that I'd highly recommend going to. They have a really nice, easy to use online interface that makes booking appointments a breeze. The atmosphere of the building is so nice: lots of lovely art, pleasant scents, and an overall relaxing vibe. From the front desk people to the masseuses, the staff there is so kind. I have seen Sara twice now and intend on regularly visiting - she's fantastic. They offer so many services, so check their website! I will always recommend this excellent establishment to anyone seeking a reprieve from their busy life.

This was my second time at Urban Massage, my first couples massage. Danielle and Mariah were incredible and kind. The atmosphere is very soft and soothing, and felt very safe. Danielle was extremely skilled and intuitive and made me feel listened to, seen, and comforted. As an emotional person and someone who Carrie’s emotional tension physically, she was careful but thorough in helping ease those tensions. She called out a few specific problem areas and sent me home with stretches to help. I will definitely book a session with her again!

Another great experience at Urban - The therapist, Will, was fantastic and worked on all my tight knots in my neck and shoulders. I like to leave a massage feeling like I've been worked on, so I like a decent amount of pressure. Will was great at checking in to see if I wanted more or less pressure on my shoulders, and was good about avoiding a sensitive spot I have on my low back that I had mentioned. I always leave Urban feeling like my problems have been fixed and today was no exception!

As a bartender I spend a lot of time on my feet as well as do a lot of heavy lifting at work so my body is always in need of a great massage. I always leave feeling deeply relaxed.

Fantastic, quiet, warm, good temp in room, simple intake process and completely paperless. The therapist, named Will, even demonstrated two physical therapy stretches for my right hip flexors. I thought that would really nice how at the end of the session, as I'm leaving, "he gave me a tip". And my health savings account covered the session. Way cheaper than outpatient counseling and someone else gets to do the work ;-). Completely worth it!

Pros: Atmosphere is lovely and they let you choose whether or not you want to chat during your massage Cons: I wouldn’t recommend Sam for a deep tissue massage. It got to a point where he said, “at this point just let me know if need to ease up.” He just couldn’t provide the deep tissue work I was looking for. I was still in pain days later and now have to go elsewhere to find relief They also ask you to take your shoes off when you enter, which I know not everyone is comfortable doing. I would try this place again, just a different therapist.

If you need a prenatal massage, look no further! I sit at a desk all day and work long hours. Mariah has worked out miracles on my upper back and hips in the last month. I am a deep tissue massage fan and really need someone to work where they can, and she does. I always leave feeling 100x better. The facility itself is cute, super clean, and really relaxing. The bathrooms are spotless. The front desk woman is so friendly and the entire checkout is always easy and simple. I cannot wait to go back post birth for a real deep tissue with Mariah!

Will, as a masseur, was great, but the location and the room that I was in were not ideal for relaxation. It was really chilly/drafty and three times within the 55 minutes a ceiling fan turned on and blew cold air on me. I had to ask for a heating pad to get rid of my goosebumps. I was just really distracted by both the temperature and the outdoor noises of dogs barking and the like. I am definitely used to a more white and sterile environment and this seemed dark and a little bit unprofessional in terms of staff attire and general building upkeep.

Urban Massage was a very professional massage boutique. Very clean & cozy. Sara was really great to get a massage from. Not only was the massage itself great but her energy was too. She made the experience very relaxing with a very easy flow. At the end of the massage she told me where my body was the tightest/could use some relief and suggested some at home stretches to help it on my own. She did not ask me to schedule a follow up appointment then and there, but rather left me to the payment counter on my own, where I had the chance to reschedule if I wanted to. Great experience :)

The new location is lovely ~ very quiet, with music and aromatherapy/diffusers providing a soothing and peaceful atmosphere, along with comfortable massage tables, and very soft sheets. Celia was fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable and thorough, and also careful to ensure that the pressure throughout the massage was not too intense or overwhelming. I would go back to her in a heartbeat (and plan to schedule massage more regularly, as it can have such a positive impact on health). Caitlin at the reception desk was friendly and helpful - overall, Urban Massage has created a great environment conducive to restoration and relaxation.

I came in with a very sore shoulder and she offered to do a focused upper body massage or a full body massage, and the upper body was just what I needed! I appreciated her calm spirit and gentle nature as well as our conversation and quietness. I love that the pre-massage questionare asks a persons preferences on conversation (whether you want to talk or not), and strength of pressure. It's very nice to feel like it's ok to not talk during a massage. Tiffany made sure everything was comfortable and had great techniques, plus a hot towel mid-massage on my back was perfect! I woke up feeling the best I have in 2 weeks.

Urban Massage is THE PLACE to book or gift a massage. They are COVID-19 careful, parking is easy, and the interior of the place is beautiful. It's super easy to book an appointment online, and they are often emailing with discounts and specials on certain days/times. I am a veteran River Bank runner and have only missed three since I ran the first one in 1978. It is a 25 k run (15.6 mile) and up to about 6 years ago, I always arranged a deep muscle therapeutic massage shortly after this race to reduce my recovery time. However for various reasons I missed four and for the last two years the therapist I recruited had to cancel the day before the race therefore I simply put up with the post race pain and stiffness for about a week and a half. This year I attempted to recruit a massage therapist whose office was in my neighborhood (Leigha Hougland) but she did not work weekends. Therefore she referred me to Urban Massage. I went on line and set up an appointment at UM for a deep muscle therapeutic massage in order to move the LA along where it was being stored in my muscle tissue focusing on my legs, hips back & neck. When I arrived at UM I could hardly lift my legs to get up the steps, but managed to get into the building and take a seat in the waiting room. I was greeted by a smiling pleasant young woman who verified my appointment. The first thing I noticed was the pleasant fragrance hint of spearmint, calm atmosphere and music playing in the background. Within three minutes my therapist came out into the lobby and introduced himself as Will. He escorted me to his massage room and left while I prepared for my massage. Upon his return we discussed my goals and how we would communicate if the pressure he was exerting was too much or too little to accomplish the goals we had set. Any athlete will tell you who receives a post race massage that in order for it to be effective, there will be some discomfort during the session. Therefore the massage therapist must know the specific level of discomfort the client is willing to tolerate before the session becomes more of a torture than a therapeutic experience. Massage therapist who are able to find and maintain this specific threshold of pressure during the entire session for each of their clients as all are different, are truly gifted in the "art" or trade of massage therapy.........and Will is one of those individuals! I have been obtaining post race massages from various massage therapist for over 20 years. Some much older, with more experience and credentials than Will has at this point in his career. However, I can honestly say that Will was the first massage therapist ever that was able to completely eliminate whatever pain I had when I walked through the door of Urban Massage one hour earlier! I was so energized after the massage that I skipped out into the lobby to show the receptionist how great I felt...she could not believe I was the same person that could barely get up the steps and remove my shoes when I first arrived just one hour earlier! First time getting a massage here and I believe it was Libby who gave me my massage. She did a fabulous job at listening and addressing my problem areas. One odd thing is my arm hurt pretty bad afterwards but it has been a year since I’ve had a massage and that could just be my body all out of whack. The experience could have been better if it wasn’t due to Covid and having to have my mask on while my face was down on the chair. It made it pretty uncomfortable but it’s not their fault. Overall I would recommend this place for a massage and would love to go back after the mask mandate is lifted.

Jennifer applied good pressure which for my wife can be a challenge. She usually feels the pressure is to firm for her I had Sara as my therapist. She was great! She told me to tell her if the pressure was to firm or to soft as she couldn't read my mind. Well I will tell you she could read my mind because the pressure and technique was perfect. Over the course of the weekend my back began to stiffen up and by Monday afternoon it was a disaster. They were able to see me the same day and boy did I need it. My therapist was Rachel and I told her about my discomfort and that I wanted a deep tissue massage and for her to determine where. She was amazing and even did Ashiatsu (foot technique) on my back, which I had never experienced, and I immediately felt tremendously better. I've suffered from muscle pain on and off for ten years due to a old injury. I've searched for a massage therapist who could offer the right amount of pressure, movement, and relief for the past several years and have never been able to find the right fit. This was my first time at Urban Massage. The greeting was OK, but I expected more info to acquaint me with the business and a certain level of enthusiasm to engage me as a patron. I love supporting local businesses, but also want to know my business is valued. I filled out paperwork, was informed where the restrooms were located and told Elliot would be out momentarily to meet me. Elliot reviewed my paperwork, discussed my expected outcomes from the appointment and was overall very pleasant and informative. They made sure I was comfortable, checked in with my pressure levels early on, and thoroughly worked through my focused pain areas. My overall experience with Elliot was wonderful. I was told to take my time getting dressed. They met me at the front counter with cold glass of water, reviewed my massage aftercare, and presented me with followup options. I truly appreciated Elliot's suggested followup massage schedule for the state of my muscle complaints, as well as info regarding the monthly massage program, and felt absolutely no pressure for future appts or upsells. My only main concern was that the rooms are truly not private. They have slatted doors and it allows noise from the hallways/people to interfere with, what otherwise, was a truly good experience.

I have had about 14 55 min massages and one 120 min massage. Brianna is AMAZING!!! The space is inviting and relaxing. I have had nothing but professional service every time I have been there. The massages are tailored to you needs. They offer many types of massage although my favorite it the deep tissue. ( I prefer to leave feeling like tenderized meat!) Brianna is very conscious of asking you if the pressure is right for you, and she has an innate knack for finding all off the knots! Seriously people, the 120 min massage is like A WHOLE DIFFERENT experience! I HIGHLY recommend it. Salon massages don't usually offer them that long and if they do, you have to be independently wealthy to afford them. NOT HERE!! If you want an AMAZING Massage and don't want to pay exorbitant salon prices THIS IS THE PLACE! I have never placed any kind of review before. First time at Urban Massage and I can say my experience was very pleasant! I was assigned with Julia M for a concentrated massage of my upper back in order to help with a pissed off nerve. I have been into bodybuilding for a long time and very hardcore in my past. I believed I may have some scar tissue that has built up over time creating a knot pushing on my Ulnar nerve. Julia was very knowledgeable with this and went right to work .. she did happen to find a knot. Her technique was very effective and she hit every point that would be affected by an upset Ulnar nerve. I feel she was dead on track with what needs to happen although it will take several visits being the culprit (knot) was a build up over years and never addressed. I'm very happy to have had Julia's professional opinion and help with my condition! I highly recommend Julia M!

At a full stop, I was rear-ended by a driver going 70mph. I was left with severe whiplash and an acute spasm. The next day I visited Urban Massage and had a session with Sara. Within minutes she identified the strained muscle cluster and masterfully massaged everything into it's right place. Prior to my session, I was struggling to support the weight of my head due to the pain in my neck. Halfway through when I was asked to turn over, I found I was able to not only able to support my head, but I had nearly regained my full range of motion. It is now the day after the massage and two days after the accident, and I feel as though I've almost fully recovered. Thanks to Sara's amazing skills, I am now able to comfortably sit at my desk and continue my work without having to depend on the prescribed pain medications.

I recently tried the Hot Rock message to help alleviate some migraine...and Holiday tension. This was one of the best techniques I've encountered. Utilizing the stones as the message medium rather than only laying them on my skin, allowed the heat to reach deeper into and relax my muscles.
