i have had messages at blue heron regularly for at least the past 10 years with the exception of the covid shutdown. i am always in good hands when i get what i call one of life's luxuries. last week, hannah was the latest blue heron student to work on some of my tired muscles and she did an excellent job. for a retiree, it's a great service coupled with a great price. i will keep going to blue heron as long as they will have.

Lived in the Grand Rapid are for over 20 years, have tried other massage places and student centers. Heard of the clinic about two months ago. Scheduled a student massage and without hesitation it was the best massage I have ever had. I have gone back three times since. The focus seems to be on medical massage and it has been clear that the students are getting excellent training! Being a school a supervisor visits at some point during your time to discuss best individualized treatment for the patient. Definitely worth an initial visit ! And from my experience- it has been worth ongoing visits!

I recommend blue heron academy for your massage needs. I was welcomed with kindness and my therapist was knowledgeable. When asked about trouble spots it just happened to be her next module of focus so she invited her instructor in, with my permission, to get additional education and hands on help to focus on my physical ailment. My husband and I are seniors and started going there for massage therapy 3 years ago or so. Then they closed during quarantine and I can't tell you how much we missed it! The students are always helpful, friendly, and listen to your concerns. They are very respectful of your personal level of comfort and always try to make sure you leave feeling better than when you walked in. I highly recommend them. .

Here’s the bottom line: $25 for a one hour massage by a competent student is the best deal in town! They are very professional and exceptionally friendly. If anything bad happens, I would say it’s probably your own fault. The Blue Heron organization is top notch.

I have been going to Blue Heron for massages for well over a year, and I really like the great massages I get. The students are knowledgeable about the anatomy and you can easily direct them to specific things you need them to work on, as well as how much pressure to use. A couple of them have seemed apprehensive because they are just starting out, but they all take direction well and ask how everything is from your end. You also can't beat the price! My only criticism would be that they should get some massage music in the rooms. It always helps the client relax and would probably help the masseuse be more confident. Jarica is my favorite student masseuse there. She is confident in her abilities, really does a great job, and is a super conversationalist. It seems like the school does a very good job training people, so I plan to continue going back every week.

I just noticed I never left a review, this needs to be fixed. This school is one of a kind. Very knowledgeable and motivated teachers, my clients greatly appreciate the massage techniques I learned in the 600 course, and I will definitely be back for more! The curriculum is challenging and can seem a little overwhelming at times; however, with hard work this program can be done. Doctor Lawton and the rest of the staff are very nice and supportive. I am a student here (began in fall 2017) and the program for Medical Massage teaches invaluable knowledge about how to restore the body through soft tissue manual manipulation. The course is high intensity, and I think many of the negative online reviews I’ve seen are from other students who failed to meet the requirements of the program, which are laid out clearly from the beginning. The organization of how class information is administered could improve, but it is worth what you pay for to gain the knowledge and skills that you do by attending here.

I am a PROUD GRADUATE OF BHA, who went through for phlebotomy. I loved this school and I would recommend this school to anyone who was interested in the programs they offer. The price is great for what you get because you are prepared for when you are done to go and get a job right away. Our instructor ( Tracey Walker) was AMAZING, she made our class fun and we learned so well from her and was never bored at anytime. I have NEVER had a problem with the office staff and think Heather is great! Anytime I needed anything she was right there to make sure I was taken care of and she actually cares for her students attending the school and after. Your not just a number here and that is what I love about this school.

I have visited the clinic here many times and has been a great experience each time. On one occasion I had to direct the student a bit more than I liked, but understand they are students. The teachers always ask what I though of the experience as to get input for the technition. It is not a fluff visit and I know that turns some off. This is to fix any issues you have and keep you healthy.

As a past student of Blue Heron Academy who spent over two years in their massage and herbal medicine programs, I found the entire staff, both front office and teaching, always professional, friendly and exceptionally helpful in all respects. I spent months comparing educational program pricing, facilities, student resources and with all the major Grand Rapids alternative schools and none measured up to Blue Heron Academy particularly in terms of value for the price (lowest by far). I must agree with another writer displayed here who states that someone has a real personal axe to grind by bad-mouthing Heather. Heather went to incredible lengths to help me when I had a "hiccup" with Sallie Mae getting my loan. But then...there are always a few bitter people who, usually due to their own deficiencies, don't get what they want and make up ugly stories. Highly recommend this school!

In a world of out-ethics and narcissistic personality disorder the BHA stands head and shoulders above the common level of integrity in our society. The teaching staff and the administrative staff are caring, compassionate and hard working individuals who respect the needs of students and do everything possible to ensure their success. Having gone through the massage therapy program, the manual therapy program and earning the Diplomate in Napropathy certificate I can say without reservation that Dr Lawton was a constant inspiration. During my time at BHA I found him to be accessible and helpful, always exceeding my expectations. IMHO the school he has created offers the highest level of service and professionalism.

Went to this school back in 2003, and I still have my nutrition and herbal medicine notes, and books! When you're young it's natural to fall into a health kick, but growing older and gaining a family it's easy to fall into bad health habits. (I did at least, even though I knew better). Recently my husband experienced life threatening complications from a diet related disease. I am SO THANKFUL to have some education in actual healing foods, food combinations, etc. I've taken nutrition classes through traditional colleges and they don't remotely compare to what I learned at BHA.
