I went to see Alex a professional massage therapist today for neck, shoulder and back tightness and discomfort. He not only paid close attention to what I mentioned were my trouble areas but, also went beyond addressing the superficial issue. He did a rotator cuff technique that really released the tension in my neck and shoulders. Also, a QL technique that eased my low back pain. To top it off he gave a few compressions to my arms just to make me feel complete and balanced. If you get a chance ask for an appointment with Alex, you will be extremely pleased.

I can not explain how grateful I am to have attended The New School for Massage. My journey through the program was a long one. It was only supposed to take about a year and ended up being a little over 2 years. I looked at different massage schools endlessly. I do not live in the city but decided to give it a try and went to the orientation to learn more about the program and decided that week I was willing to do the travel time to attend this program. I began at the end of 2019. By March the pandemic began and by April I found out I was pregnant. Although I would have preferred to go to all of my classes in person, the instructors did a fantastic job teaching through zoom since we had no other choice. I did about half of my anatomy and pathology classes online and there was never a time where I felt I wasn’t getting a quality education. All of the instructors are so helpful. Every one has their own style and does things a little different but I was able to learn something new from every single one. They were very patient with me and let me do things at my own pace since I had a baby in the middle of everything. The clinic hours I did truly prepared me for starting a job in the field. I took my Mblex exam about a month before graduating and passed on the first try. I graduated in February and started my first massage job this month. I recommend this program for anyone interested in becoming a massage therapist. 5/5 for my experience here. I will never forget it.

I graduated from the New School for Massage in 2015 and can confidently say that the instructors, facility, and program set me up for the utmost success in my career. I continue to practice using the multitude of skills and knowledge I gained during my time there and recommend looking no further for the gold standard in massage education.

If you are looking for educated teachers who are passionate in massaging and caring for your academic needs, then you have come to the right place. I was one of the students at New School for Massage and am completely satisfied with my journey there.
I first came about this program because the price met my budget. But I realized the school was a gem in and of itself. Nothing can beat the value of a good school community. The moment I talked with the director Emmanuel, I realized this school was honest, open, and transparent. All the details were laid out perfectly.
Academically wise, some classes were very difficult. There were online materials to review over and over again. Everything is truly at your finger tips. I struggled in the Anatomy class, but my teacher Carrie, helped guide us through every muscle, action, and so on. In person, she really cared about how you could remember each muscle creatively. She also gave scenarios on how you may address a client with this particular issue.
I really enjoyed the Massage Bodywork Class 2 and Specialized Massages. I use a lot of techniques in my massages currently. You can really see how a person's mobility increases too. These classes literally showed me massages has an important role in injury rehabilitation.
Another important class, is the business class to show the reality of what happens when you work as a self-employed contractor, own a business, and more marketing strategies. This prepared me for my current job.
One of the benefits are the clinicals. A supervisor is available if you have any questions about clients and how to massage better. It really trains you to write proper SOAP notes or post-assessments and plans. The clients gave me great feedback and my fellow classmates did too. You will gain strength and endurance, knowledge of medical terminology, and compassion for others.
You are probably wondering if I passed the MBLEX. I did, on my first try! I was prepared for the MBLEX because the New School for Massage class exams and quizzes model after it and are sometimes just as hard.
Coming out of the program, it was simple to get a job. Don't worry, you found a great place.

I truly adored my experience attending the New School for Massage!
The faculty & staff is so genuinely kind & caring of their students, their learning & life journeys!
Especially as a queer, neurodiverse person with various learning differences & chronic health concerns, it was amazing to be welcomed & accommodated in such a loving environment!
Attending the New School for Massage was one of the best decisions I made for myself in my professional career as well as my own life journey.
I look back fondly & genuinely miss the classes, teachers & students!
Highly recommended!

After researching the massage therapy school options in the Chicagoland area, I decided this was the one for me. And I was not disappointed!! Great leadership and instructors within a welcoming and supportive environment. Academically powerful and hands-on classes that reinforce the material. The school is connected to a professional massage studio where student clinic is completed. I highly recommend New School for Massage.

I graduated from the New School for Massage in February and passed the IL state licensing exam in March. I had a really great experience here and would highly recommend it.
The entire staff were knowledgeable and created a welcoming & engaging learning environment. It is obvious that they really care about the students and are passionate about massage & bodywork. I truly enjoyed going to class and found the workload manageable. I learned a lot from the teachers as well as the other students and really appreciate the active community of bodywork professionals & fellow alumni. Thanks NSM!

I went to this school for massage therapy. You truly learn a lot and the teachers are great. They prepare you for the real world and are super supportive and answer all your questions.

The New School prepared me for entering the massage world not only with the hands on approach, but also the ethical and business side of the industry.
The instructors were extremely knowledgeable in their field. Most, if not all were practicing professionals in the field they were instructing.
The schedule made it easy to attend classes with my current schedule.
I would happily recommend The New School to anyone looking to start a career in the massage field!

If you want to study massage therapy, this is the place! Excellent instructors, great facilities, fantastic clinical experience. A nurturing, fun, safe place where you feel like a cared-for individual. Definitely not a degree mill. Class sizes are small, and the curriculum is interesting, relevant, and prepares you very well for the licensing exam. The tuition is a great deal, too! I'm so glad I studied at the New School. I don't think there is a higher quality massage therapy school out there.

I had a great experience at New School for Massage. Good environment, affordable tuition and the value was well worth the price. Capable instructors, amazing hands on clinic opportunity to grow and develop skills. Nice environment and convenient location.
As an foreign student, I felt very comfortable with the way the classes were run. I took the 7 months fast track and time flew. Less than one year later, I finished the school and got my license. The instructors are very patient and comprehensive. Great material and preparation for MBLEx. I passed the MBLEx on the first try and I’m very thankful for learning at this school.

My experience at The New School was positive in every aspect. The teachers, the curriculum, the flexibility of being part of a contained, private school gave me more than I ever hoped for when enrolling in massage school. From the owner, Emmanuel, to each teacher to my fellow students I felt valued, heard, personally attended to and encouraged at each step in the process of becoming a licensed massage therapist. I highly recommend The New School for a fantastic massage education and experience overall.

I recently graduated from this school. My experience here was great. The admin team really works with your schedule and are very helpful. The instructors are knowledgeable, entertaining, and encourage you to take the information you already have along with what you learn and make it your own. Everybody there seems to genuinely enjoy their job and enjoy helping people. Great atmosphere all around. Definitely worth a look if you are getting into the massage/bodywork field.

By far one of the best schools I have attended in Chicago not only based off of the fact that the owner and instructors are skilled and passionate about their craft, but the environment itself is welcoming and allows for connections to be built. I enjoyed my experience at The New School for Massage. Most of the coursework is far beyond what other schools are teaching and providing within the field of Massage Therapy/bodywork and that alone is incomparable!

I had a great experience at the New School for Massage. The instructors are very knowledgeable and possess a passion for massage that makes it all an enjoyable experience. Graduated in 2014 and I am now successfully running my own private practice. A++

Amazing school, very prepared teachers, friendly and warm atmosphere, the clinic is connected to the school for your mandatory hours of training "hands on". The preparation for the final state exams for your license it's impeccable (I don't know any of my class mates that failed the state exams). Possibility to follow 2 different class track: the evening class and the fast track in the morning if you want to get licensed in less than a year. Tuition is affordable and definitely worth it.

I'm genuinely grateful to staff and fellow students at The New School for making my massage therapy training such a phenomenal experience. I could compose an in-depth evaluation of the training program there, but I think the school's fundamental strong points say it all: affordable tuition, choice of fast-track or extended-track programs, small class sizes, well-rounded program content, easily accessible River North location, and, most importantly, experienced supportive instructors who are exceptional teachers and true advocates of massage therapy and its benefits.
I highly recommend The New School to anyone considering training as a massage therapist.

I just completed the 11 month, part-time tract for massage therapy licensing at New School of Massage. What an amazing learning experience! Everybody gets the encouragement and feedback they need within the diverse and small classes (with only 2-12 students in each class)! Within this program, I had extensive training in both Eastern & Western massage modalities, as well as tons of technical resources for massage within the clinical setting. I feel confident working around client's individual conditions, and delving into complicated questions of anatomy of kinesiology relating to client posture and movement habits. I've already gotten my license in just under a year from when I started. the part-time massage school tract. Now, as a professional therapist, I practice both Swedish and Thai massage. I had a job offer before I even finished school. What a lovely, fun, knowledgeable, and welcoming community of therapists and educators the New School of Massage has, as well! It has been an honor and a pleasure.
Jake
In my opinion a great massage school. Instructors were experienced, available and very willing to help students. Price was lower than most schools I researched and instruction equal if not better. The school had a broader range and more time dedicated to introducing modalities usually only touched upon at other schools such as Thai and Shiatsu. At the same time I left feeling confident and prepared in core modalities such as swedish, deep tissue, etc.

I had a phenomenal experience as a student at the New School for Massage. This is the only massage school that offers such extensive education and provides individual attention to every student. Years later, when recruiting massage therapists to work with me, I welcome a NSM graduate with open arms. Their knowledge and skillset are far superior to an alumni from another school.

If you're looking for a perfect school... I most def recommended!!!
I graduated from The New School for Massage in 2011 and I just couldn’t choose a better carer and a better school to go.
All the instructors knew so much about the body and a very special way of teaching. I can thank them enough for all they taught me.

I highly recommend this school if you are looking for a career in massage therapy. The fact that they did not inundate me with sales calls the moment I expressed interest about their establishment was a huge plus! The teachers are extremely knowledgeable and highly experienced in all aspects of massage therapy. I didn’t have one teacher that wasn’t passionate about sharing their knowledge, technique and unique skills to help further my education. I graduated well prepared and have enjoyed a rewarding career ever since!
Riki Casillas
When looking for a massage program this school was recommended to me by other experienced massage therapists. I attended one of the monthly information sessions and was able to begin the program the following month. I had a great experience, completed the fast track program in under 8 months and was licensed soon after. My instructors were passionate, knowledgeable and incredibly welcoming. Now I have happily been working as an LMT for over 5 years in both massage practices and chiropractic offices.

I loved my learning experience at The New School for Massage, Bodywork & Healing. The owner, Emmanuel, and his staff are super helpful and informative even in the years after my graduating. The class size was just right to not feel like I was lost in a sea of students. I took the 11 month course which was perfect so I could work full-time and still be able to keep up with my schooling and studies.
I did shop schools around before choosing NSMBH. Save yourself the time and energy and go to NSMBH for your massage therapist education. They have everything you need and it feels like home.

If you are seeking a budget friendly, family oriented, in-depth insight into weighted educational resources that will assist you in realizing fully your passion, the New School for Massage is your go to.
Coming from the fitness industry as a personal trainer, I was lucky to finish right before covid and with immerse help from Emmanuel and supporting staff, I was able to take my Mblex and passed a couple weeks early before graduation.
With the knowledge, confidence, and support for continous learning, I can say I have been able to skyrocket my skillset, technique and business wise (a key aspect that is not easily available in our industry)
For the first time in my life, I was excited to go to school and be in a class each day.
I was excited to improve my knowledge and massage technique easily with the comprehensive courses and super helpful tutors.
And the best part, you can free bodywork done on you by other students when practicing during technique class.
I never officially got to say thank you.
Thank you, for helping realizing my passion.
Thank you, for the support and assistance.
Thank you, for the counsel and guidance.
Thank you, for the tutoring and confidence boost.
Thank you, for teaching me a skill to help sustain myself and family.
In health,
Reid Swenson
Excellent teaching staff with a diverse background, small class size, well-rounded curriculum, and pretty convenient location, I would highly recommend checking out New School for your massage therapy education. I got licensed without a problem and got a job immediately out of school. A+

My 11 months at New School brought me so far ahead of the game on my anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology, I sometimes impress myself! In addition to learning effective bodywork techniques and styles ranging from Swedish to Sports, Myofascial to Cranio-Sacral, Trigger Point to Thai, which was our core curriculum, we learned about research, ethics, and business. Then we put all of our sciences together to tackle our last hands-on class dealing with various Conditions such as thoracic outlet syndrome and piriformis syndrome - and not a day too soon, as we were finishing up our now 100 hours of Clinic, giving student massages to the public, which was a phenomenal experience with real clients, the real deal! The teachers were all top-notch - not only educated and experienced in their field, but also great teachers and genuinely likable people, a direct reflection of the School's Director, Emmanuel Bistas. New School is where you want to go if you are looking for personalized attention with smaller classes. As a bonus, I made some great friends whom I am certain will be in my life for many years to come!

When I was looking for a massage school in Chicago, I didn't know what to expect, or what to looking for exactly. But now after 6 years working in the field, I can say this is a MUST go school.
They not only prepare you to pass your exam, but prepare you for real massage therapist life. It was a great experience for sure. Actually I miss the classes.
Thanks Emmanuel.
Alexis Cohen-Pena
An excellent school with skilled, friendly teachers and a supportive environment. Smaller cohort sizes allow for closer instruction and more time to ask questions. Wholeheartedly recommended to any Chicagoland individuals looking to learn Massage Therapy!

I have come here a couple of times now. The students are really hard working and make sure you are happy with the results. I usually give them direction during the massage itself and they appreciate it.
some of the rooms are meant for multiple people but I don't really have a problem with that. also, now that they have separate rooms, it is much more quiet and comfortable. It is also super clean, they change the sheets each time and the massage bed is warm so you don't feel uncomfortable without clothes on.
Leandro Lopes
I had the best time overall.
All the instructors were super friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and kind.
The front desk employees were always friendly and attentive.
The school is impeccable and is super clean always.
Like any other spaces, there will be cons and pros. Be prepared.
The school had always showed interest in working when an issue arisen.
Kudos to Emmanuel Bistas and his stuff.

NSM is a wonderful school that has created a balanced curriculum of hands on work and intuitive lectures that prepare students for a career in the field of massage therapy. Tuition is beyond affordable, class sizes are small, and the location is easily accessible. Upon completion of the program, I felt both prepared for the state licensing exam AND eager to begin my journey in my new profession.

Sometimes you get more than what you pay for; the New School for Massage is a great value. I learned so much when I was there, all of which has carried over to my professional career. I had great instructors who were very knowledgable in their subject. With so many options available to licensed massage therapists, there is no way to prepare for every eventuality; however, they did a great job with a broad spectrum of topics that sets the student for success. If I don't have the answer to a specific problem I know where to look and/or who to ask. Of course, you will get out of it what you out into it. Apply yourself now and you will succeed in the future. I highly recommend this school to any student looking for their first steps towards licensure.

I moved to Chicago from NJ in 2018, and I applied for and started massage therapy school here a month later. The staff and students are all welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. If I had the opportunity to relive my experiences here, I would.

I can't recommend the New School for Massage enough. Whether just looking for a place to get a quality massage for unbeatable prices, or a place to start a career in massage therapy. This is a refuge right in the middle of the city.
Elena
New School prepared me wonderfully for the field of manual therapy. The clinic is run smoothly, and small class sizes mean that students get a lot of individual attention and support, and the environment is one of empathic understanding and commitment to excellence.
Nate Heckmann
This place is a great value. They offer 55 minute massages for $40 and you’re not allowed to tip the student. (Although tips to the school are greatly appreciate) A high-quality massage for an affordable price.

Excellent school, teachers are great, small classes, organised. Staff work together, which means consistency for students. I needed time off because of family health issues and they were so helpful during this time.

I haven't been in a while yet I've been going since 2011 always a great experience. I recently attempted to schedule myself and my friend, her first time, we scheduled that evening via the site, received emails stating it ONLY a request to be informed an hour before the service that they were cxld. Mine started my CC infor was not updated although I was prompted to update when I set the apt and hers was simply cxld. They have been in business too long to have a system that does not updated in real time so appts can be confirmed using the site that is available.
