My pops is out of town on business for the the next two weeks and has the only key to the house with him; that hasn't been a problem because I could use the garage door to get in. Low and behold, the garage door would not open up tonight. I checked for windows I had left unlocked to no avail. I'd heard good things about Ian before from a family friend and figured it couldn't hurt to try and call him. I'd never used a locksmith before yesterday and I will never call a different locksmith after my experience with Ian. He was prompt and polite. He got my front door open at a reasonable price and the whole ordeal was less than 45 minutes including the time it took him to drive over. Thanks so much for the positive experience, and I hope other people have the opportunity to take advantage of your exceptional service.

I was locked out of truck yesterday night. I drive large truck called freightliner kascadia for work and needed to get in when my keys were locked. My English is not so good yet and Ian was patient and helping. He drove to me quickly and unlocked without damage. No damage was good because work makes me pay for damage. I recommend to people in his area to call for help. He is very good.

I've never really been the sort to write reviews before, but I'm going to make this the exception. My father passed away recently and left some a few things to me in his personal shed. He spent a lot of time in his last few months working on a major project. It wasn't any major feat for Ian to open the pad lock that was on the shed when I lost the key, but the reason I felt the need to write this review was because of his absolute professionalism. He was timely, courteous, and the picture of professionalism on the job. He made pleasant conversation, but didn't pry about private matters regarding my father. I cannot thank him enough for providing me with a sense of closure for my fathers passing.

I called Ian’s Lock & Key after I had already had one service be incredibly rude and give me an excessive waiting period, one service no-show with no explanation and a few just not answer the phone or return messages. The tech who answered my call was Rob. He said he could be there in 20 minutes. A few minutes later he called to inform me that he’d been in a small car accident and didn’t know when he’d be able to get to me. But he said he’d check on me before he went home to make sure I had been helped. I called other services and found no one. I was about to give up for the night, as it was very late, when Rob followed up on his promise to check on me. When I informed him I hadn’t been helped, he said he’d be there right away. Less than 15 minutes later my cat was unlocked, he was paid and we were finally on our way! Ian’s Lock & Key will now be the FIRST service I call when in need of locksmith. The rest of them could take a cue from Ian and his crew on how to run a professional, courteous business that follows through on its promises.

This company came to help me from keys being inside my car. Was told 15 to 20 minutes and a half hour showed up. Spent 20 minutes trying to get inside and never did. I was finally able to do so myself by rigging the tailgate on my Jeep with a foriegn key. Wanted initially to charge 65 dollars and unsettled with 50 dollars. To me I'd given 35 dollars and felt that 50 dollars was excessive. Will NOT call them again and friends, family and those I cross will hear my story. Pretty sad for what little they did. I wish to review my review, I recieved a voicemail from the owner and a text saying he was sorry for his employees (trainee) lack of help and helped me to the point that I WILL RECOMMEND HIS BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE. His employee was kind and courteous in trying to get my vehicle fixed. I was very happy that the owner took the time to get ahold of me and went above the call of duty to help me out. In my opinion this is what makes a company number 1 in customers minds. Thank you for you being you !!

Got me in the same day. Fast and professional! I was a little skeptical with having a chip key but they had no problems making me a duplicate! I called the dealership for a replacement key and it was way more expensive and would've taken weeks to even get one done! Would definitely recommend Ian's!

Ian answered the phone promptly on a Sunday morning and was very professional and kind. We’d locked ourselves out of our vehicle while traveling back across the country after a very long and sad week. We were well passed Des Moines at a rest stop and Ian still hopped in the car and cheerfully traveled almost an hour to come save us. It took him all of 10 minutes to get the car door unlocked. His prices were fair and professionalism top notch. Thank you!

I was fortunate to find Ian's Lock and Key Service via Angie's list. Our front door's lock and deadbolt has been on it's last leg for years...today the whole thing broke, could not get in or out...PANIC TIME!! I called Ian thinking our front door would be unusable until Ian could come fix it. Boy was I wrong!!!!! Ian came earlier than expected, installed the door knob and deadlock quickly. Ian made sure the door did not stick which was a chore. He is friendly and professional and an expert at his craft! I would give Ian's Lock and Key Service 10 stars were that possible. If you are in trouble with the locks on your doors call Ian. He is fantastic and the price was very reasonable. Our front door no longer leaks air, the locks are beautiful...we no longer need to buy a new front door. I could go on and on about how pleased and grateful I am to Ian. It is such a relief to have a front door that actually works and locks correctly! CALL IAN EVERYONE, YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!!!!!!!

I recently called Ian’s Lock and Key when the front door lock to my business failed. Ian came out within 10 minutes and quickly got the lock issue resolved. He was super to deal with and charged a very reasonable rate. One nice thing about dealing with him was that the lock needed to be replaced and he had the necessary part with him. Got car keys cut and programmed. They work to start the vehicle but set off the alarm when used to unlock the doors. Ian said it's because of the cheap keys I ordered from Amazon. He offered to cut and program new keys at a discounted price even though it's not his fault.

There was a hiccup in the time I was told he would be there but it didn’t bother me, I wasn’t going anywhere. It took longer than he expected but that’s normal with my vehicle haha. I was impressed that he stuck it out and was very determined to get my car key made for me the same day. I was also surprised he provided me with a key fob for my keyless entry (had I know that I would not have bought some on amazon haha) and also provided me an extra key just to unlock my car if I get locked out. He was very personable and friendly and took the time to get me up and going again. Would use him again!

BEST LOCKSMITH IN THE AREA I locked my keys in my car at 12am on a Saturday night. This guy was my lifesaver! The locksmith said he would arrive in 15-20 min and was there in 13 minutes. It was amazing. I was so surprised because I used another company a couple weeks ago that advertised on its website a guaranteed arrival of 30 min tops. That company took 2 HOURS to get to me and charged me $150. It was absolutely ridiculous. West DSM Locksmith was the complete opposite experience. He was friendly, arrived quickly, and charged a reasonable amount. I will never use a company other than this one.

Liked how quick it was to get my car open once service arrived! When I first contacted service I requested an eta becase I had groceries locked with my keys in the truck and my two small children waiting around lunch time, and my husband could have made it home to pick up keys and around to us in about 35 mins. It took well over double the 20 min eta since he had to stop to get gas on the way and during that stop his car died and needed a jump. I wish he would have notified me of delay or offer any discounts due to delayed arrival. Not the worst experience but will try another service before this one if I'm locked out again. Update: service contacted me after seeing review and offered 50% off next service; I appreciate that. He seems like a great guy and hard working I just don't know if I was in the same situation again he'd be the first to call but he was nice, polite and quick to open my car once he arrived. I'm not upset just telling about my experience.

I locked my keys in my car while shopping at Hy-Vee in Waukee. Based on internet reviews, I selected West Des Moines Locksmith, and I wasn't disappointed. Ian answered my call right away and told me that he was already on his way to Waukee to handle another call. Much to my surprise, he called me back 18 minutes later, stating that he was in the parking lot. He had my car unlocked in just a couple of minutes, and I was on my way. Ian was fast, friendly and courteous. The price was about 30-40% less than I've paid in the past, so I'm not sure why anyone would ever call another locksmith in the Des Moines metro area.
