Maria is the person you want to buy diamonds from, and Mervis is the place to do it. As a young man, not knowing much about jewelry, I had come to the store with my Mom. Maria not only remembered me, but also my Mom and exactly what I had bought years earlier. I just bought the best diamond ring I could imagine. Maria helped me capture the moment, and the wearer, perfectly. I highly recommend Maria/Mervis, they have exceptional products, people, and customer experience.

My (now) fiancé and I came in to Mervis early on in our ring searching process. We weren’t ready to buy yet, we just wanted to get an idea of how different cuts and settings would look on her hand. Walking in to Mervis and getting help from Elizabeth was such a sigh of relief after our previous two experiences trying to get this help at other places. Elizabeth was very knowledgeable and provided us great guidance, but perhaps more importantly she was a great listener. She wasn’t in a rush to sell us something or get us to commit to anything. She worked with us for longer than our appointment time just so we could look at different diamonds. We ended up finding the diamond that is on her finger now. I could go on and on about our engagement story and how helpful Elizabeth was throughout that process, but for the sake brevity I’ll just say that Elizabeth and Mervis provided and continue to provide elite service, they have a great selection of quality stones, and they offer them at a great value. Our experience working with Elizabeth was exactly the experience I was hoping for in the process of selecting an engagement ring.

I have my dream engagement ring because of Mervis and Mika Smith-Jones. Months ago, my boyfriend (now fiancé) and I decided on a whim to pop in. We called moments before arriving to ask if they would be able to fit us in for a last minute appointment. They were able to make time to see us and Mika was so warm and kind, bringing me every style of ring possible to help me find what I liked. She worked with my fiancé through the entire process of custom making my ring. She was incredibly responsive and helpful. I went to Mervis to buy an engagement ring. Maria, the salesperson, was wonderful, professional, and a pleasure to work with. She was very easy to talk to and made the whole experience very fun and relaxing. She also knew what she was talking about and helped me buy a gorgeous ring. My new fiance, her family, and friends all love the ring and were very impressed. The officer on duty in the store, Kamara, was also a super nice guy and kept me entertained whenever Maria was in the back pulling stones for me to look at. Would highly recommend Mervis to anyone.

From my first time stepping into the store, I knew I was in the right place. The ambience of the showroom exuded class and quality, things anyone would want for their special someone. I came into the K Street location of Mervis Diamond Importers seeking a ring for my girlfriend, but most importantly my best friend of 9 years who will soon be my wife. With a history spanning this long, I knew any old ring wouldn't do. The service I was offered, which was tailored to my individual wants and needs was phenomenal, thank you Mike! Mike and I sat down and looked at many options and I ended up hand picking a diamond as well as a ring for the diamond to be set in. Pick-up day couldn't have gone any smoother, the ring looked amazing. Though Mike was busy with another client, Mika took great care of me and treated me as if we'd been friends for years, thank you Mika. Of course my girlfriend said yes, so she is now my fiancé and I couldn't thank Mervis enough for making my engagement extra special. My bride-to-be is obsessed with her ring and we've even gone back to Mervis to visit Mike and get some tips on cleaning and upkeep. Mika Smith-Jones took the meeting in full confidence and listened to my requirements! She steered me in the right direction when my inexperience in engagement ring shopping began to show. She let me know that her designers were top-tier (I wish I knew how to show you all that she was honest!) and that they would get the job done in under three weeks! Approaching two weeks later (yes, faster than expected) I was in the showroom looking at the most stunning ring I have ever encountered! Not to mention, the final price was not indicative of a custom rush order! If you all need fast and confident assistance from a grade-A professional, Mika Smith-Jones at Mervis is that person! I heard about Tacori many years ago from a childhood friend who received a Tacori ring. I looked into the design and fell in love. I decided that when that time came for me, my request would be for a Tacori ring. My fiancee' is very sweet and aims to please and make me happy. I am so blessed :). I did a lot of research regarding shopping for engagement rings and my fiancee' and I both listened to Ronnie Mervis' education regarding the 4C's on the Tacori website and I must say we both learned a lot. It was very helpful. Great job Sir & we hope to meet you someday :). In our continued research, we identified the D.C. location on our 3rd shopping attempt. Glad we ventured out, as they had the biggest selection. I must say, it's helpful when you can see the product first hand vice on-line, as the rings look much different most certainly when you try them on. Ladies, keep in mind, that the ring should truly match your hand structure. A petite ring/smaller band wouldn't work for me. At the Mervis in D.C. we were introduced to Maria K., and I must say she is most certainly all about customer service. It comes naturally for her. Maria genuinely cares about her customers and offers great feedback. She was also very conscious in working w/in our budget. Maria also provided a comfortable method financially for obtaining the ring. My fiancee' and I both had a lot of questions, as generally an engagement ring is not a small purchase. Maria was very patient and addressed all of our questions putting us at ease esp me. My ring is on it's way and I can't wait to see the final outcome put together just for me by Tacori and thankfully made in the U.S.A. which we are most supportive of. Thank you also to the Mervis family for bringing in customer friendly staff, as it's truly about establishing comfort and trust w/ the customer. This review is long overdue but I couldn't not do it. Men's engagement rings are hard to find, especially if you want a larger stone but not a solitaire. My (then-soon-to-be) fiancé and I went into Mervis, planning mostly just to look around and see the kind of band thickness and diamond cut that he might want for his ring. Then we met Mika. Mika sat us down, asked us plenty of questions about what we liked and didn't like, brought out stone after stone from their vault, and talked to us about pros and cons. Most importantly, she took the time to get to know us personally. Whenever one of us would say "I like the way this thing looks here," she would immediately tell us the name of the cut, setting, or feature we'd identified and explain more about it. Both my fiancé and I have very strong opinions, and about halfway into our roughly forty-minute conversation, Mika had our tastes down cold. She started to suggest things we hadn't considered, all of which were perfect, and then said, "Have you considered having it custom-made?" I had already decided to have his ring custom designed, because nowhere I had seen had anything off-the-shelf he or I would like (both strongly opinionated, remember). Mika didn't press but measured his ring size and told me to reach out if I wanted to discuss more. Obviously, I did. When I went back in (not telling the fiancé), Mika sat down for another forty-five-minute conversation, where we decided everything from carat weight to cut to settings. We drew pictures, I told her exactly what I wanted, she re-drew everything and took my innumerable tiny modifications perfectly in stride to make sure she exactly captured what I was seeing in my head. I've never walked away from an interaction so perfectly convinced the other person knew exactly what I was talking about. Mika took it from there. She talked to the designer constantly, checking back with me every week or so to update me on the progress and talk to me about the design choices they were making. She sent 3D images of the ring, and when I expressed concerns about some elements, she talked me through the structural needs of the ring design and told me they could achieve the effect I wanted without the things that concerned me. And she brought it all in at exactly the price point I told her I wanted to pay. (It was also about 75% of the appraised value, so--let's just say calling it a bargain would be an understatement.) The result was beyond words. When Mika brought the finished ring to me for the first time, I could not stop staring. It had every detail perfect, everything I wanted precisely executed. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mika and the entire process. She got to know us as individuals and as a couple, took all our idiosyncratic tastes, and brought us the most brilliant engagement ring possible. I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you so much, Mika, for giving us such a wonderful gift to start our marriage. You are a treasure. (He said "of course," by the way. And still hasn't stopped saying "But have you seen my ring?" to pretty much everyone we meet.)

When my wife and I got engaged in 2008, she was living in Connecticut, and I wanted a diamond that was guaranteed to be conflict-free; I went with Zales. But when my closest friend was getting ready to propose to his girlfriend here in the DC area earlier this year, he complained to me that everywhere he went, the selection was limited and the sales staff was pushy. Based on the strength of the Mervis radio ads on WTOP alone -- I've never actually stepped foot into one of their shops -- I recommended that he give Mervis a shot, citing specifically their promises to have a "much better selection" and not to pressure buyers. As it turned out, not only were their ads telling the truth, their prices were also lower than he has anticipated, based on browsing other retailers. He was particularly pleased that he was given time to select his diamond and setting, and once he had made his selection, he was not critiqued, commented on, or "encouraged" to look at more expensive options . His experience was, in fact, so positive that he went back to them for wedding bands as well. Although I've never had any reason to complain about Zales and am still very pleased with our rings, I would likely have gone to Mervis first had it been an option for us, and had I known about them back then. Their ads make such a convincing case that the Mervis brothers are both personally invested in the customer experience yet also pleasantly detached in their dealings with customers, and the family's presence in South Africa makes it seem that they are able to largely avoid the risk of selling tainted diamonds. It was great to know that their actual practices back up what they advertise. Thanks for making me look like I knew what I was talking about!

I bought a Tacori engagement ring from Mervis back in July, more specifically from Michael Morgenrood and it was one of the easiest experiences I ever had! My fiance absolutely loved the ring and has gotten numerous compliments on how much it sparkles. I had done some research beforehand and came in with a general idea of what I wanted. Mike listened and pointed me in the right direction and the process was honestly not as painful as one might have imagined. He even held the ring for multiple months before I took it home with me. My biggest cocnern was having an EGL certified diamond. Free of charge, he provided me with an appraisal of the ring and a GIA rating as well. Like most people, I was a bit hesitant when it wasn't GIA certified and instead was EGL certified as it tends to be a bit looser of a rating from everything I've heard and read. He understood my concerns (whether or not they were valid or not, I do not know since I'm not a ring expert) but he totally quelled my concerns by having a GIA certified specialist come in and write and appraisal and look at it and it did match the EGL certificate and for no extra cost. I couldn't recommend Mervis more and more specifically Mike, but everyone seemed friendly and willing to help. I would suggest coming in with some sort of an idea though of what you want beforehand as I feel this is the type of place you'd buy the ring as opposed to just getting information in the hopes of buying one later. Easily recommend.

I rarely write reviews but I had such a pleasant experience with Maria Kamali, I had to share. I visited Mervis in January to look at engagement rings and was introduced to Maria. She helped guide me in picking a dream engagement ring for my fiancé. She was extremely warm, patient, and knowledgeable of diamonds and worked with both my fiancé and me, and our price point, to find what best suited us - both. Many salespeople will have hidden agendas behind their advice or try to influence your decision but Maria wasn’t pushy at all, gave us the information, and let us make the best decision on our own. We met with her three times before our purchase, and it took a month to get the ring. As you can see, it’s beautiful! Highly recommend Maria, she truly will make your experience delightful for such a special time in your life!
