Stopped at Vanderwende Farm Creamery on the way home from the beach. It's a nice place to stop. It breaks up the trip. I had a milkshake with mint chocolate chip, peanut butter swirl, and cherry ice cream. It was very tasty with plenty of delicious mint chocolate chips. The cherry ice cream wasn't flavourful enough to be tasted. Those of you who like cherry ice cream should get it in scoops rather than in shakes. The shake was thick and delicious. I highly recommend the Vanderwende Farm Creamery.

We took the backroad to the coast, and found this gem amoungst a series of farmers market stands. We stopped because it was an actual dairy farm with fresh ice cream (is there any other reason)? The ice cream and milkshake were very creamy and delicious. There is both indoor and outdoor seating (although the outdoor seating had lots of flies). There also is a small toilet on-site. We definitely recommend popping in for a fresh treat!

20211022 Yeah!! They are open!! Oh my, this Creamery gets pretty busy. They sell jar items, candles, soap, coolers, t-shirts, sweatshirts, cheese, milk, pies, cakes, diggie donuts and baked goods. Their ice cream serving is HUGE!! One scoop is more like 2 scoops at most creameries I have been to, about 40+ up and down the East Coast. Most of their flavors are not what I usually get. Their cherry ice cream is both red and black cherries. I got the strawberry and mint chip (half and half = scoop). I appreciate that they offer half and half since I don't eat a lot of Ice cream in 1 setting, and half half gives me the variety I need to eat more at 1 setting. Might need to let the rest melt and drink it like milkshake. The ice cream has a nice consistency, but needs more filling... chocolate chips, strawberry pieces, etc... I rather get a smaller potion of ice cream and get more filling... just got home... doggie Donut smelled so good - peanut butter, but when I tried to pick it up, it broke, crumbled. So disappointed. My finicky pups don't want it. OH well. 20211019 So disappointed!! I have been wanting to try their ice cream. Finally made a trip to the beach... and they are closed due to staffing. Since my arrival, at least 5 cars drove up, looked and drove away... likely with the same disappointment I have. At least I spotted a couple of cows. I think my girls are more disappointed than me since they love ice cream.

I have been going here for over 10 years. They have the best ice cream around and huge portions. My one and only complaint is that they do not have their homemade waffle cones at their Greenwood location. I am a local and I prefer going there because it is less busy than the 404 location. Please bring them to the Greenwood location.

Very delicious! Not unreasonable price for the size. A single scoop was more like 2 big scoops. Coffee Oreo had huge chunks of Oreo and hit the spot. Highly recommend for high quality creamery ice cream

My husband and I wandered across this place in the middle of nowhere and so glad we did! UNIMAGINABLE! Honestly, it's so creamy and smooth, not too sweet, it's perfect. . We stopped back once more on our way back home from the beach and now that we are home all I want is more of this ice cream. Being that it's so hard to find anything worth spending your money on nowadays, I'm definitely up to taking a 3 hr. Road trip for something to do🍦

Amazing ice cream, straight from the farm! You can even say hi to the cows. Limited seating inside, expansions over the years have created a nice outdoor space. Generous portions - well worth the price.

Looove this place. Can get really crowded on a nice warm weekend, but they are friendly, keep it moving pretty well and worth the weight. Price and flavors are great here!! Wonderful place to stop for an ice cream on the way to the ocean. Easy to miss while driving on the highway, but we'll worth making a u-turn. This is a part of a big farm operation, so they sell more things inside the store.

This place is so popular because the dairy farm is next to the ice cream shop. They sell other stuff too but the real draw is hand dipped cones. We arrived at 12 noon, there was a line of about 20 people. Line for the bathroom was not too bad, it was clean. There are tables and chairs in the center. Outdoor seating is also available but it was hot out.

Great tasting ice cream. Beautiful scenery with the farm as a backdrop. 1 scoop is actually closer to 3 scoops. They also sell watermelon jam and pepper jam which were wonderful and unique. This is only place I've seen it being sold. The only downfall is the smell of manure which can be expected but still a bit unappealing and there were flies inside the actual shop.

Great flavors ...very creamy but still number one ice cream is Daily Scoop in Pasadena, MD. I prefer a slightly chewy ice cream. Fyi...lots of outdoor seating but smell can be over powering so most were sitting in their cars.

Great family friendly ice cream place in Delaware! Lots of flavor options. Price is decent for large portions, even the kid's size was rather large. My kids loved being able to play on the equipment. Friendly people and dogs to pet were the highlight of our visit along with the climbing sets. I should have researched more though, prior to going. I had hoped to take the kids on the tour, however they did not offer weekend tours.

The price was good and they have many options to pick from as well as specials. If you pass this place up on the road you will definitely regret it!

This is always a "must stop" going to and from the beach. The ice cream is so fresh and there are so MANY flavors to choose from. And the prices are unbelievable. I always go for a milkshake with whatever flavor combo I pick, because it's easier to consume while driving. 5-stars ALL DAY!

This great ice cream destination is very handy if you're going to the beach, it is on the way. They have probably 40 flavors of homemade ice cream. You can order 2 flavors & can get a float, a sundae, cone or cup. They also have a clean nice restroom next to big refrigerators with juice, butter milk & other offerings. The ice cream is the star here & deserably so. Easy to order at the counter, & then they call your name when your order is ready at the far end of the counter at the left. Clean, & accommodating young people serve. Nice place, I never miss going there & I I look forward to stopping on the way home.

Went a few times over vacation. These place is sensational. We asked some of the servers what their favorite cone was and they flaunted the homemade waffle cones they enjoy. Those delivered. Amazing creamery and great ice cream. Generous 1 scoop as well!

Every now and then work takes me to DE and I always pass this on my way to the labs I work at. One day i finally left work early enough for home (in Baltimore) to make it in before their 6pm closing one weekday. Got there at 5:45pm - the line was at least 6 people deep! I was able to get my order...at least 12 different flavors... a whole bunch of offerings I terms of sizes and cups and cones. As i was going home I grabbed a couple pints. (A pint is $5, a quart is $9... my Root beer float was I think $4 or $5.) Ice cream very creamy... not my fave and I wouldn't drive out of the way for it, but nice to have if you pass by it on your way to your destination. I thought it was nice touch to actually see the farm and the cows that made my milky delights... but honestly i could have done without the stench of manure (?). They also sold other farm based or associated items - I think there was soap, Mason jars, merch. Servers were young but pleasant and quick.

As much as I love the atmosphere here and how nice and welcoming they are, and the taste of the ice cream... I can only give three stars due to dyes and unhealthy ingredients in the icecream. ☹ Know that the advertisement of "farm fresh" is just the milk, not healthy ingredients. They have packets that come in of each flavor including high fructose corn syrup, blue dye, red dye, etc. If they change this our family would be regular customers! Ps, This is a picture of my family enjoying ice-cream here as it was our once a year visit. And no blue ice-cream was eaten! Lol

My coworker told me about a great ice cream place on the other side of the Bay Bridge. When I got there, the parking lot was full and there was a line inside, so I figured this must be the best ice cream ever! But I was disappointed. The ice cream was good, but not the best ever. The scooper was very generous. I ordered one scoop. She filled the cone to overflowing, then added the one scoop. I would definitely recommend this place, but don't drive an hour and a half like I did.

Two years ago, we went on vacation to Bethany Beach/Fenwick Island and thank goodness we discovered Vanderwendes early in the trip. We ended up getting it every day for the rest of the week. We search for ice cream everywhere we go and Vanderwendes is by far the best. I have been sick and on bed rest for the last couple of weeks, so as soon as I was free we drove 4 hours round trip yesterday just so I could get Vanderwendes and left with 5 pints for us and friends who supported us while I was ill. It’s still my favorite ice cream spot. Thanks for always making me smile!

Vanilla cherry is out of this world and homemade, fresh waffle cones are to die for. Visited last Tuesday afternoon and it was already super busy. They do need more staff but the 2 that were working did an awesome job with the crowded lobby. Definitely a must stop when on beach trips or just every day drives!!!

Fresh ice cream on a cow farm. Can you ask to be any more legit? Coconut ice cream was creamy, contains real coconut flakes, and not too sweet. Balance was perfect Been here in the past and it's a toss up between this and the one down the road. Try both because its a close call!

This was my first visit and had an excellent time. I ordered peanut butter fudge crunch and it was absolutely delicious. I was waited on by Sam and he was a very nice and fast worker. We love to visit here as a special treat. Large scoops (we usually choose two scoops, which is basically four), good choice of flavors, and fast service! My favorite is definitely Lemon Chiffon!! Ice cream and the variety top notch. Service usually good. Last 2 times they have been putting all my TOPPINGS on the bottom. I let it go 1st time but today took back and said they forgot my toppings. The girl said they are on the bottom so they dont fall oout. She had kind of attitude when said please put on top so when she walked away I told her that by time you get to toppings ice cream basically gone. Thats why they call them toppings, not bottoms. To eat with ice cream not after. Somebody needs to teach them about how to make ice cream sundays.

It doesn't matter if you're a local or a western shore beach bum, this is the place for a cold cone regardless the time of year. We usually don't get this way unless we're heading to the airport or going to my wife's sister's house, but she always glances my way to see if I'll stop or not. There is a great selection of flavors. And a few choices of cones or cup. My favorite is their hand made wafle cone. Regardless of how you order, east or west, you'll finish before you cross Rte 13 or get to Rte 50.

Great ice cream and I am always a fan of a fresh made waffle cone, tried the butter pecan 1 scoop and it was more like three scoops. This place is fast fresh and a very generous portion. Such a great little spot for a date or taking the family out for dessert. They sell other items such as fresh milk ice cream by the pint and other items.

Love this place and so happy it stays open in the winter. Ice cream is fresh and creamy and prices are good. I've stopped a few times heading back from Ocean City and it's always been pleasant. I love that you can combine different flavored scoops to get the best out of multiple tasty worlds. Line can be long at times but it goes by quick. Definitely worth a small wait :)

Fantastic, creamy ice cream and huge portions. It can be easy to miss their building, but so worth the stop. The line moved pretty quick, interiors and bathroom were clean. Their seasonal coffee Oreo flavor is my current fav! Recommend grabbing a couple extra napkins on the way out because it melts quickly in this heat and makes a mess!

The family and I are a big fans of this place. The ice cream is great and the shakes are so good Vincent Vega wouldn't think twice about spending the money. Usually pretty busy, that doesn't happen at sub-par places. Sure a lunch or dinner rush, that's common at the worst of places. This place, there is rarely an open spot in the parking lot.

Go get great ice cream for an amazing price. Say "Thank you" to the dairy cows on the way out! Located right on 404, on the way to the beaches. Make this a "coming and going" tradition for your summer trips to OC. You won't be disappointed. They also sell cheeses and milk from other small dairies as well.

Good ice cream, very disorganized place. Charged me for 2 scoops of ice cream, then told 10 minutes later, that they don't have one of flavours I've paid for. I have agreed for another flavor, finally got the ice cream and left. 10 minutes later I've realized, that I've only got one scoop in one flavor. So I was overcharged and haven't even got any of the flavors I've paid for. It wasn't intentional on part of employees but rather a result of bad store design — you have to pay upfront and then hope, that other employees don't mess up your order. I've never seen an ice cream parlor, including dairy farm stores, where you pay before your dessert is prepared. I'm still giving 4 starts, because ice cream was good, and mostly because we need many stores like this, so I don't want this place to lose any business because of one mishap.

This place is off the hook, great ice cream and great customer service and has regular hours unlike Hopkins Farm which can never make up their mind what hours they will be open. This place has cows and has not sold off their farm like Hopkins did because the kids just wanted the money.

Stopped in on a weekday so there was no crowd, but a steady stream of cars pulled in. I'm a plain vanilla guy, theirs is wonderfully cream. My 4-year-old grandson loved his birthday cake icecream but couldn't explain why it is blue. Staff was friendly and patient as we made our selection. Masks required.

But yeah, the ice cream is spectacular and for only 1.00$ extra, you can get a homemade waffle cone in your ice cream. Every ice cream is made themselves, and it is spectacular! A must-go to.

Without a doubt this is definitely a winner! I've been to hundreds of ice cream places and Vanderwende may be the best I've ever had. The ice cream was creamy and flavorful. I highly recommend the cappuccino crunch, coffee and the black raspberry. There are 2 locations, I know of, the actual creamery and the other in Dewey Beach, DE. It may be psychological but I thought the ice cream at the farm was better. What wasn't my imagination were the prices. The shake was $5 at the creamery and $6 in Dewey, the small cup was $3.50 at the farm and $4 in Dewey. Either way the pricing is very reasonable compared to other places I've been to. The portions at the creamery were also a little more generous.

I had wanted to go here for the past few years on my ride back from the beach, some family friends said that it was very good. I finally got the chance to stop and got the chocolate chip ice cream, which was just okay. I may have overhyped it in my mind and then been extra disappointed when it was not as good as expected. If you're looking for the best ice-cream experience of your life, you may end up disappointed. The prices aren't bad and if you need to calm some kids down on the long trip back from the beach and don't mind the line and the smell of cows outside, then it's a good place to stop.

It was an easy in Easy out. although it was crowded, we were not in line for more than a few minutes. They make you order which ice cream you want without being able to taste test or even take a glance. The woman at the register just stood there, rude, unhelpful, with an annoyed look on her face while I figured out based on nothing what flavor I wanted. Then you pay, wait for your ice cream, and hope it's something you like! The only way they're getting business is because it's a cute little ice cream shop. Employees were not friendly and the ice cream is nothing special. Skip it.

I'm not a dessert person, so I normally skip it. I much prefer salty or savory foods. However, riding down route 16 in Delaware today I nearly caused an accident pulling into Vanderwende's parking lot. I have found that their ice cream is not overly sweet, so I love it. We live close to Island Creamery and Chesapeake Bay Farms Creamery and Vanderwende's tops them for their perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. Do yourself a favor and try them out!

Good ice cream, but the workers there did not made us feel welcome at all. We made a stop there on our way to the beach on April 27. Not once did the worker smiled or seem happy to serve us(unlike the people in front of us), and I can tell that she was getting annoyed waiting for us to pick our flavors, with no one else behind us in the establishment. After reading the past non-five star reviews from here, I've noticed that most of them who complained about services, are not Caucasian. I hope that's a coincidence. Because I like to support local creameries and usually make a point to stop at one or two during most of my long trips. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, specially after reading the reviews.
