Reviews of Pitango Gelato
One of the BEST ice creams I have ever tried! Highly recommend!
This place surprised me. You can taste the quality in every bite and you will not be disappointed! The black tea flavor is unique and delicious. The Pistachio flavor is rich and creamy!
They are not too sweet and I could return any day!
Stopped here for lunch. We got two lunch bowls, one with a seasonal vegetable add on and a mango cheesecake for dessert. Good was very good and priced reasonably. They have a small indoor seating area and also package for carryout. There was free lime spa water if you did not want to buy a drink, which was very refreshing.
The staff here was very nice and helpful. We tried several before deciding on chocolate hazelnut, cherry, dark chocolate and cantaloupe Gelato. We sample the cookies as well and they were wonderful. My son got the chocolate sorbet and he loved it. This place is conveniently located next to the escape room and makes a nice treat after that experience. There was no wait and a nice spot inside to enjoy the cold treats.
Refreshing and delicious gelato that is handmade and organic. Selection is good with a few unique flavors like black tea, cardamom, orange chocolate etc. (15 flavors, 7 vegan sorbets), prices are fair ($8 for 3 scoops), ingredients are fresh and you can taste it, serving sizes are decent and they also have a cafe inside. Definitely recommend.
They also allow sampling. I got the blackberry (tons of berries and it also had the seeds, orange chocolate (subtle tons of orange with dark chocolate) and cardamom (taste is quite subtle but there). I also liked the banana stracciatella and black tea ones.
It is a good ice cream place. I'm giving 4 stars because I wouldn't call it gelato per say. The best part is that the ice cream is covered up and the staff use gloves to serve. That gets a huge thumbs up from me as most ice cream places don't do that, certainly not in Europe. Overall, a good ice cream joint worth visiting if you are around and fancy some.
I got the Hazelnut and Crema flavors and they were soo creamy and rich, I absolutely loved the texture. I also sampled the Golden Kiwi flavor and tried some of my friend’s Lemon sorbet and they were both really good too. The Golden Kiwi flavor in particular stood out to me as so flavorful and fruity. The worker was so nice too and offered samples :) It was a little pricey, but worth it!
After a whole morning visiting the National Mall, make sure to head up north and stop by Pitango Gelato.
The place is small, so sitting might not be available. Their gelato is so good. I got the hazelnut and it was one of the best I've ever had. My husband go the dark chocolate and it was so creamy!
We liked so much that we came back 2 more times during our visit to Washington DC 😅🍨
Absolutely delectable! The creamy, tasty gelato was the best! The service was awesome, they shared suggestions and allowed me to taste some new flavors. I eventually settles on the strawberry and cantaloupe. I would have never thought to put that together, but it was perfect!
Delicious gelatos! l loved the texture , the freshness and the naturals flavor of them.
They say they don't use chemicals, preservatives, colorings or flavorings, because they churning their products on the site.
I recommend this place!
A favorite for all , plenty of sorbet and Gelato options. All are very flavorful and yummy! One of my fav is the dark chocolate sorbet and coffee (affogato). Small portions are appropriate bc it's so rich.
The gelato was good although small. The dark chocolate was very rich, the cinnamon was the right mix of sweet and cinnamon, but the banana could've had more flavor. The hazelnut also could've had more flavor and the apple was not that great. It was enjoyable, just some of the flavors could be better and the portions were very small.
One of the best gelato Ive ever tasted thank you guys it was delicious 😊😊😊 …
Eat fast, it melts quick in summer. If you love chocolate get the chocolate sorbet, such a smooth taste with a dark chocolate elegance. The raspberry sorbet is equally as refreshing, with some seeds mixed in. The crema Italian custard was nice too
Simply divine! I usually don't indulge in sweets, BUT, this place was so good. I mixed crema with espresso and I was NOT disappointed. You simply must give them a try. It's a tiny spot with flavor 😋 …
Nice Gelato shop selling coffee. Grabbed a pint to go. They packed it ip nicely and even provided a bag.
The sorbets are refreshing, the mojito has a nice slight bitterness from the lime. The pistachio is no doubt the best in the city, a very pure flavor. Try it with a scoop of espresso to make the perfect combo. The black tea was also extremely tasty with just the right sweetness. A must try spot for high quality gelato with quality ingredients.
5 stars for very very delicous Gelato and a good water dispenser. Service was meh. The guy wouldn't make eye contact at all and just stared at the screen, awaiting the order.
Their single origin chocolate sorbet is incredible! Non dairy and still so creamy and rich. The only negative is that they don't ship online so I can't get any at home!
Delicious handmade ice cream. Many original flavours made with care and love for nature. Many fat free options and even italian coffee. More than 30 minutes of wait due to lack of personnel and no cash policy prevent me of giving it an otherwise well-deserved 5 stars rating. But if you have the time and you are around DC....you should try this delectable gelato!
Good ice cream, a little soft (e.g., coconut, matcha green tea). A little expensive
Great gelato makes great affogato!
I found Pitango while searching for "best coffee" in DC (despite it being a gelato place). I love that they make organic grass fed options for gelato; the flavor was apparent in the scoop of "Fior di Latte" that I had with my espresso. If I'm ever back in the area, I'll have to stop by and try other flavors.
Great Gelato. The only drawback is the wait to get our Gelato and it's very small inside.
Nice place to grab a gelato after dinner. The street was alive with people, the staff was friendly and the gelato was outstanding.
My very top best in DC! Half the sugar and great flavors. I tried the hazelnut and my it was simply amazing.
We had the chocolate and lemon gelato, and this was the most fantastic gelato we had ever had! Definitely was worth the walk-by when we were looking for a late-night dessert!
I went with a friend and our daughters. Around 6pm on a weekend there weren’t many flavors left. We got strawberry it was delicious ! Small one for my daughter and I. The lady at cashier was super nice and sweet. I didn’t get her name unfortunately but I believe latina. We had a nice quick convo about her kids. Thank you for your kindness and blessings to you.
I stopped by Veterans Day trying to get gelato again but it was close. It said it been closed for a few days and would re open 11/10 but that was 11/11 and it was still closed. I’ll try again soon.
I will say that it’s over priced. But good. Worth it ? I don’t think so. But will I go back ? Yes.
Going inside made me feel like I was in NYC. It’s cute. Seating outside two benches. I don’t think any seating inside. I can’t remember.
Stop by and try it.
Decided to come check this place out on National Hot Chocolate Day. Tried the hazelnut with a coffee gelato. Pretty good combination. Look forward to trying other flavors. Small on the inside with only a few seats. Luckily it wasn't crowded.
The gelato was okay. I’ve had better. For the price they don’t give you much. The service wasn’t all that great.
This past weekend, we visited two Pita go's. The quality of the gelato in both ways excellent. One was out of most of the basic flavors that I like, the other was fully stocked. The gelato was great and we visit it every time we are in the area.
Before the pandemic solid choice and happy they are open once again. This gem in the heart of Chinatown won’t let you down. Very refreshing and great tasting gelato.
The golden kiwi sorbet was incredibly unique and tasted exactly like a golden kiwi. It was the star: very tasty and the texture of it along with the mojito and lemon sorbet flavors were amazing. I appreciate the uniqueness of the golden kiwi and mojito and will order those again, although the lemon was good and a classic.
Very good gelato and great customer service! I especially appreciate how the gelato and sorbet are covered with metal lids.
We tried the crema (Italian custard) and hazelnut (nocciola). Both had thick, creamy, and smooth texture, with delicious classic flavors.
Should I return, I'd probably try a fruity sorbet next.
Here they have my 5 stars. The ice cream is simply amazing and the coffee great as well. I love the affogato (espresso + ice cream).
The gelato here is very fresh and flavorful! I felt that each flavor I tried stood out. The strawberry tasted like fresh strawberries and I could actually taste the vanilla in my vanilla chocolate chip! While these are both pretty generic flavors, Pitango Gelato did a great job of highlighting them! I had the strawberry sorbet and vanilla chocolate chip. My husband had chocolate hazelnut and espresso (pictured). We really enjoyed these combinations of flavors!
What a fabulous trip after a 6 hr. your of DC. Ice cream is not even close to being as good as this gelato! If ever near 7th Street a few blocks from Pennsylvania Ave, give it a try, rich and awesome flavors, nice people, and great tasting gelato.
Came here on a 30 degree Celsius day and it was so refreshing. Had the almond, hazelnut and pineapple sorbet. The nut flavours were very good. So good, came back the next day and had pistachio and Vidama, a fab chocolate flavour. The Vidama is a must and nut flavours are worthwhile too.
Phenomenal gelato with unique but amazing flavors, they give out samples. Definitely worth a try!
The gelato was quite good. Nice flavor selections and execution. $7.50 for the smallest size is pretty steep though.
Went here for the first time yesterday evening. The fellow was so warm and helpful. Definitely some of the best customer service I've come across in DC!
They have unique selection of flavors!!
We enjoyed mojito, Earl grey, and grape.
One of the best Gelato I've ever had. The pistachio and chocolate are amazing
I reccomend the local rhubarb and the crema together. You cant find fresh rhubarb anything anywhere. This was a nice treat. This is a nice place to stop in after dinner at Oyamel. Prices were a bit high, but thats not unusual in this area.
Super smooth Gelato and a variety of unique and delicious flavors. It is pricey however.
Good place to have an ice cream! The chocolate hazelnut is amazing!! I love it!
There are two sizes, in the medium yo can put 2 flavors and in the large you can choose 3 flavors. The price is around $6 per person.
The location of the place is good because is in the middle of the Eastern Market.
The staff is very kind.
Favorite gelato place hands down. The black tea flavor blew me away!
OMG the gelato is DELICIOUS!!! It was so rich and the flavors were wonderfully intense. I had half sweet cream and half dark “single source” chocolate. The combination was perfect. Not overly sweet but full of rich flavor. The two ladies scooping the gelato were very friendly and kind. Love this place!
Good vegan dark chocolate ice-cream. Truly spiced up but bit too sweet for my tastebuds. Organic raspberry sorbet very refreshing but sweet.
Went with the large trifecta of flavors. The cantaloupe flavor was really good. Very smooth and just enough sweetness. The staff was great and even though its a very small shop I like that they have benches right outside the door where you can have a seat, enjoy the gelato and not have to walk and eat.
I've been to the location in Baltimore numerous times, and I went to this location 3 times in a matter of 2 days #IHaveAProblem Delicious Gelato when you really need a fix!
I lived in Europe for 6 years and Pitango Gelato is exactly like Italy. It’s the best I’ve had in the US.
Really delicious Gelato. Probably some of the most expensive Gelato I have ever had, that's the only drawback of this place. I can understand the price given the high quality ingredients.
This place is SO GOOD! A must do on any tourists list. Not only is it made with quality ingredients you can trust, it's just damn delicious! The Italian Sipping Chocolate is to die for- promise me you'll try! We had several types of the Gelato on our visit and each one was very flavorful. And as if those two things aren't enough, combine them for the wonderful experience that is the Chocolate Affogato!! Although seating was limited, we had a great time sitting at the bar area and the crowds were well maintained.
This place is fantastic! Very delicious ice cream, friendly and helpful service, and great cold brew.
Definitely the best gelato I ever have.
Tried the golden kiwi 🥝, cantelaupe and Mojito flavor today.
Love it so much.💞 …
Update - After being contacted by management, it was a mis-understanding and there was no Crema available. That being said, I have increased my review to 4 stars to reflect the quality product we did receive. We highly recommend Pitango, the dark chocolate gelato was amazing.
Original - The gelato and sorbet were top notch. The staff were great. Two stars for the following reason, we went there specifically for the Crema Gelato and were informed, by the apologetic staff, that while they had it, the owner would not allow them to serve it until the weekend. A sale is a sale and this is frustrating. For this reason I won’t do business here again.
Delicious, strong coffee.. Awesome, handmade gelato & pastries. Friendly & good music
This place may need to consider as coffee places.
That does not mean Gelato was not good. Gelato is also great.
My children love their Gelato.
We tried Latte and Cafe Au Lait. Both were great.
Good variety of flavors, quick staff, and very tasty. It's about what you think gelato in DC would cost, but it's worth it.
Unbearable heat outside. Delicious cooling frozen treat well needed. Had 1/2 lemon, 1/2 crema. Excellent.
Pure deliciousness!! The Afrogotto was good, and the people were extremely friendly and helpful!
One of THE BEST gelatos I've ever had!!!!
Worth every penny. Their gelato was great. Perfect snack on a hot day. The kids loved it
Good place for Affogato or coffee. Enjoyed the Hazelnut flavor 👍🏼
Wish Parking was easier 😓 …
Sooooo good. The sorbet flavors were delicious. Portion sizes were plentiful and customer service was excellent.
Creamiest gelato I've ever had in my life. Hands down.
Gelato is excellent. They have a large selection of sorbet flavors, and let you sample all you want.
Good gelato. The strawberry sorbet tasted real strawberries.
Don't get me wrong, but I can see I'm not the first one who isn't satisfied with the service. I visited this place on September 26, the black male server was constantly yelling at us about the way we should put our masks on. But at the same time he wasn't wearing any gloves while serving the ice-cream. Double standards. You should do both or do nothing at all. And stop telling people what to do.
P.S. ice-cream was fresh and tasty. But the service should be improved.
It was good but very high priced. I don’t think it was worth the price tag.
On a chilly and long day this was a perfect stop for a sweet gelato treat and a warm chai!
2 - raspberry, 1 - mango, 1 - mojito
Very smooth and delish. The adults and kids loved it.
A nice downtown gelato. Lots of great local flavors. Lots of variety. Serves espresso and coffee as well.
Good customer service, and great Gelato! Hazelnut is definitely the best! The dirty Chai latte was delish!
Third time around: my favorites are pistachio, chocolate chip, and almond flavored artisanal gelato
The staff was very friendly and gelato was great! A little bit pricey but you can get up to 2 flavors in the regular sized cup which makes it a lot more affordable!
Legit Italian ice cream!
The tastiest sorbet in the DMV! We love to get 3 scoops of deliciousness right here at Pitango. Variety is truly the “spice of life!” 😋 …
Definitely the best sorbet that I have had. The Vidama chocolate sorbet was better than any chocolate ice cream that I've had. It tasted like fantastic dark chocolate. We tried the chocolate, raspberry, kiwi, and mango sorbet. They were all delicious. They have become a favorite. We will be coming back.
Not changing (downgrading) the rating but just found out they raised pints from $10 to $14. Too rich for me.
I'm downgrading my 3-year-old review of this location from a 5 to a three Because the guy working there tonight just plain old didn't want to be there or be bothered, and couldn't even write the names of the flavors on the three pints I bought so I would know which is which. Plus he got the order wrong and gave us two chocolate pints and one pineapple instead of two pineapple pints and one chocolate. He also said they don't do samples but they were willing to do two samples at Adam's morgan. Also, why can't they mix pines? If you're going to spend $10 on a pint and you want two flavors, give the person two flavors.
So I only bought flavors that I already knew, which means I spent less money than I would have. The only two flavors that I buy are the only two that I was able to try that as morgan, which are the pineapple sorbet and dark chocolate sorbet, but they're both really good. And they're good together.
While the ice cream is good, and the flavors are interesting, I don't think the high price is justified. The regular size is an incredibly small cup for nearly 6 dollars. Nevertheless, the place is extremely popular during cherry blossom season with hardly any room to stand while ordering.
Amazing! At first I got a little scared when I saw the reviews mentioning the price, but figured I'll drop in anyway. I don't think that $6 for good gelato is too pricey. My hubby and I shared a large (which was enough to satisfy both of us), and choose dark chocolate, pistachio and pomegranate. They were all delicious. The first two were smooth and creamy and full of flavor, and the fruity sorbet was quite refreshing. While sitting inside reading about the founders and how they respect the environment and cows, I enjoyed my gelato even more.
The best ice cream I have ever tasted.
Wide variety of flavors to choose from that aren't typically found elsewhere. They also offer many sorbet flavors. Worth the trip to try it, everything we got was very delicious.
The staff were friendly and helpful even on a very busy Sat night. They kept the line moving and had smiles on their faces.
This is a grab and go place so don't plan to stay here. Enjoy some of the city sights while enjoying a delicious dessert!
The gelato was delicious and ridiculously small for almost eight bucks. Also, the employee was spraying bug spray behind the counter while complaining about mosquitos. Not great.
Was very glad to see all the sorbet options along with a vegan chocolate flavor! Not much in terms of quantity of gelato, but certainly a lot to say about the quality. Some of the best tasting sorbet and gelato I've had! Paired well with their espresso.
Fantastic, authentic gelato! So many great flavors - pistachio, cardamom and single origin chocolate being the ones on top of my list. We visit this place every time we're in D.C., it's the best way to complete a great day.
Gotta say, I'm an ice cream snob especially when it comes to creative flavors and chocolate. Ice cream here is great and the people are very cheerful and friendly. The dark chocolate gelato is some of the best I've had and the pistachio blows every other pistachio out of the water. Will definitely have to come back!!
We really enjoyed the grapefruit and chocolate sorbets, the chocolate in particular. Both were vegan, which is great for us since I'm lactose intolerant and my partner is vegan. The place was busy when we went and didn't have much seating, so we ended up just standing outside and noshing through the sorbet on the sidewalk.
Loved the gelato and the espresso was delicious as well. They went great together. Had the chocolate hazelnut and cardamom. Chocolate hazelnut was the winner. Cardamom was good but subtle in comparison. The service was friendly and they offered to let me try whatever I wanted. It's a bit pricey but realize you're getting quality over quantity.
Gelato was pretty good, but the customer service was awful & rude
Oh my oh my!!! Had the coffee and mocha mix and it was too DIE FOR!!! Great friendly service in a very clean environment. Neighborhood seemed good for daytime but signs of homelessness at night so take a friend. Gelato is better with friends anyway.
The gelato is pretty tasty and they offer various flavors including sorbets.
Gelato was amazing and everyone working there was super nice! Made it worth the ~$8 for a small cup!
They said they had quite a few flavors of sorbet, get their they only had one. The one they had was excellent.
Yummy Gelato. Long line when we arrived, but fast and friendly service. My wife and oldest daughter got affogoto and my younger daughter got a great tasting hazelnut gelato. I got the banana flavor and highly recommend it to anyone trying to decide between it and another flavor.
Numerous awesome, changing flavors. Kiwi was fantastic and unique. Just about any fruit flavor I've tried has been great. Staff is always very nice and very offering of samples. Deducted a star because the price is too high for the amount you receive.

Came here after watching a comedy show nearby since the ratings were so good.
1. Strawberry sorbet
~Mediocre. Wasn't as smooth as the raspberry sorbet, and the strawberry didn't come through enough.
2. Raspberry sorbet
~Pretty good. Very smooth and juicy.
Service was good. They let us try 6-7 flavors between the two of us since I wanted to try everything.
Lovely, soft ice cream. They know how to make a flat white, which is a superb bonus.
Very decent Gelato similar to italy but over priced.
Came here on memorial day with friends and was shocked on the line out the door. Its always good gelato if people are willing to wait for gelato out the door. Flavors were unique and I did enjoy it.
Pricey - It's DC and it's close to National Mall. I get it.
It's local business and the service good but with a large cup, it was $8 without tax.
This is the closest thing to authentic Italian gelato!!! I loved it! Sorbets taste like fruit and not like lots of sugar. Finally!!! Good job Pitango guys!!!
If you are in DC and want to taste a really good desert, just go for a gelato. You won't regret it. A delicious treat to your mouth.
After sampling a lot of Gelato in Venice, Florence and Rome with my kids, I can say Italy does not have much of a edge on this place accept for the price. They serve really good, authentic gelato and, if you consider the price of airfare to Italy, it’s not too expensive as a treat.
I have never had an ice like their chocolate sorbet — if you are a (very) dark chocolate lover, you must try a sample. It is so rich that it feels more like gelato than a sorbet.
Honestly the best gelato I’ve ever had. The sorbets are all delicious and when I first tried the passion fruit sorbet, my eyes filled with tears of joy. I saw they cater, hopefully I can arrange for them to cater the rest of my life.
Great coffee. Very good gelato. Prices are high, but for a premium product not unreasonable. The main demerit is that the service is very spotty at this location--staff seem poorly trained, are sometimes rude, have poor crowd control skills, and turnover seems high.
Great service and great gelato. The whole family tried each other's orders, and there wasn't a single flavor that anyone disliked.
I had no idea that this was a chain spread across DC. I guess I was lucky to stumble into this place after lunch. Their servers were very happy to dole out samples of their gelato and their sorbet. I ordered the hazelnut flavor and coconut flavors and they were simply divine! Seating was a bit limited with a few table/chairs out front and a few open bar stool seats near the side of the parlor. Highly recommend checking out this location and/or their other locations.
If you are looking for a quick coffee/ ice cream place for a date or before you explore the national mall come here. I was here for a hot chocolate and loved it. The hot chocolate could have been more chocolaty but was good other than that. The staff was very quick and made the drink to look like a nice cappuccino. You are walking distance to the sculpture garden so come here to grab a drink first. Limited space inside the store.
High-quality gelato and sorbet, with great customer service and you can taste test everything they have! Good prices for the serving size and taste. Will definitely visit again when I am in D.C. next.
In my opinion, this is some of the best gelato around. Not exactly authentic gelato but more like a farmer/foodie's take on it. The flavors are intense and creative, and range from traditional (stracciatella and hazelnut) to adventurous and modern (passionfruit, black tea). Biggest drawback is the price point--you're definitely paying a price for the downtown location and the founder's dedication to using fresh and healthy ingredients.
Absolutely wonderful experience. I loved the local pear and rhubarb sorbet along with an espresso. This is a gem. So many options of yummy flavors and super friendly staff!
Super nice customer service, extremely smooth gelato and sorbets, nice number of flavors, nice atmosphere little small
GET THE AFFOGATO
ask if you can get two flavors yum!
sour flavor (I got passion fruit) good with sweet dark chocolate with espresso on top!!!
Awesome experience with gelato made from organic local Amish milk from Pennsylvania. The coffee is also from a local connoisseur who sources fair trade beans. With traditional gelato making is combined great service and awesome ingredients. The only reason I give 4/5 is that my personal preference is a gelato with more air! Recommended
Decent gelato, long lines, high price tag.
This place is a good option if you're walking around the National Mall/Penn Quarter area. There's heavy foot traffic and lots of other shops in the area.
While in the city for the day, we walked over to appease our sweet tooth. To get in took a while as the line was long. It was a nice day weather wise so didn't mind too much to have to wait it out. The lengthy line did give us a chance to bob and weave around people's heads to read the menu through the windows. I ordered a small cup (allows for two different flavors) and chose their Sur de Lago and Pistachio flavors.
The flavors were definitely on point but nothing I haven't had before. There are also some interesting sorbet options like mojito and passion fruit. The place also has latte and coffee offerings.
Overall - it's solid for what it offers but on the expensive side. If you're in the mood for gelato and in the area - the convenience is nice, but otherwise you're not missing out in case it's too inconvenient to get here.
Most of my group tried the sorbet. They had lots of flavors that were delicious. My hubby had the gelato and really enjoyed the 3 flavors he tried. It's pricey but worth a try.
Really unique place to surprise your taste!
I had a small cup with 2 scoops--one of regular chocolate gelato and one of chocolate sorbet. The gelato was some of the best I've ever tried and was well worth the steep but reasonable price. The chocolate sorbet didn't contain milk, making it less creamy and more rich than the regular chocolate gelato, much to its credit. I could easily tell which flavor was in each bite, even though they looked the same. I was impressed to learn that Pitango makes its gelato on property and uses high quality ingredients.
Awesome ingredient with great care and eco-friendly concept. Lots of VEGAN flavors and some of them are not vegan but with organic grass-fed milk and fair trade Domori chocolate source. I pay a visit accidentally just for a power sucker but ended up stayed for a long enjoy the vibe and out of curiosity to know who are their customers.
Parents with kids, girls for a chat, guys in different ages. So happy to see people like it. The price is quite reasonable since it’s USA, and it does taste good. I highly recommend Cardamon, tasted like Chia, which is my favorite drink.
Stumbled upon this place while exploring DC. Best place hands down. You won’t regret it. The flavors are amazing.
When it comes down to dessert, I'm always craving gelato. I was a bit sad that they offered only berry flavors in sorbet. However, when I tried their sorbet, it was the best one I've ever tasted. Their gelato was amazing as well. I tried the matcha gelato and was craving more when I finished.
I love how late this place is open on Saturday nights. After leaving an evening event on a very warm night, gelato was just the thing to wrap up the night. I've never been able to settle on a favorite flavor; they're all so good!
Servers were out of it, gelato was fine but not nearly as good as some I've had. Flavors were weak
Some very cool and yummy flavors here!
I could not write a detailed enough review about pitango's sipping chocolate. It is delightful and comparable to Angelina's in Paris, France. At an earlier visit, I tried their gelato with chocolate over it... It is beyond phenomenal. Their staff was super friendly and showed us nothing but smiles and pleasantries.
Believe or not, I had not visited a Pitango in all my years of living in the D.C. area. Despite me living here for 20+ years of my life or that I love food and especially gelato, I never went into one. Until yesterday. I know, for shame.
Well now that I've gone, I have a very bad feeling about my wallet. Because Pitango is delish! I was a bit skeptical because I'm very picky about my gelato. I usually kept to Dolcezza or Casa Rosada for my gelato needs. But now I can add Pitango to that list too!
The flavors change daily and every day's flavors are posted on the wall. They have everything from pistachio to black sesame, cardamom, crema, matcha, and many more. Yesterday, I tried the black tea and pistachio. The Ceylon black tea was fantastic; I could really taste the tea flavor. I usually like to order pistachio at any gelateria I visit because I will judge based on how the pistachio flavor is. Well folks, Pitango's pistachio gelato is legit. They use the pistachio di Bronte, which is flown in from Sicily. I'm eager to come back to try their matcha, cardamom, milk and honey, hazelnut, and fior di latte flavors too. I also want to try their affogato and coffees too, as I've seen some fantastic Instagrammable photos of their coffees.
Not going to lie, it's a bit expensive. In total with tip, my regular size was over $6. But it is good gelato, so I can justify coming here and splurging every now and then. Unfortunately, it's not an everyday expense I can make. The service was great too. I asked about how they made their matcha lattes (need to try!!) and the gentleman behind the counter was helpful in explaining their process.
Good, but limited flavors.
Excellent dark chocolate ice cream but really too expensive for the quantity
So good. I like the Fondante and coconut. My boys loved the Strawberry.
DELICIOUS gelato. They weren't annoyed when I asked to try a bunch of flavours, which was really kind of them.
(My sister and I used to live in Italy, and we agreed that this place offers the same quality of gelato that we used to get in Rome. Highly recommend.)
Love Pitango. This is the most authentic Gelato in America. I would minus one star, because they did not have pineapple.
Delicious! Pistachio is 💣💣💣 …
Without a doubt, absolutely the BEST GELATO EVER.
I had the combination of matcha green tea and chocolate hazelnut. Both were deliciously rich, creamy and flavorful. So decadent, yet so light. Unfortunately, I heard that the matcha green tea flavor has been discontinued, but don't let that stop you as they have a wall full of flavors for you to try.
Slightly more expensive, but definitely worth it. Guaranteed you'll fall in love!
Tasty gelato! And they have simple bars.
delicious, rich gelato! friendly service & rich espresso. worth the stop!!
The gelato was so great!! smooth and very rich. I got a larger size and my portion was similar to regular portion. I will get regular size from next time... if there is any next time.
Some for the best ice cream in DC. Great place for a date or any occasion really.
The Bacio flavor is ridiculously good.
Can’t beat good ice cream and coffee right around the capitol.
Delicious and inventive flavors. There is only standing room with maybe what could be called a bench by each window. The prices are a bit steep, but it is gelato. The black Tea was a fav. though I am sure I would decided differently if I was able to try them all!
Super friendly staff serving delicious gelato. The regular size allows up to two flavors, the large up to three. Family friendly.
Cute little gelato / ice cream shop. I got the pistachio and hazelnut gelato. Both flavors were delicious and creamy.
While the cinnamon gelato really was an absolute treat due to it's unique and highly refreshing flavor, the shop itself could use some help. On a beastly hot summer night in July, they've got to bring in some extra help--lines halfway down the block are not worth the waitbut if you've got time to kill, it's the orange chocolate, green tea, and chocolate noir are hard to beat.
NOT TO BE MISSED! Hands down the BEST Gelato outside of Italy. The unusual flavors (cardamom!) was what drew me in...but I was blown way by the quality of the dairy, which definitely enhances the flavor.
By far the best quality and tasting gelato I've ever had.
The price is on the high side, but totally worth it given the high quality and smooth, velvety taste and texture.
Easy to see right off of 7th Street servicing North West and the adjoining areas of Washington DC. Parking on the Street is available but it fills up fast especially at night and on the weekends. Clean facilities. Always a long line but it moves quickly. A wide variety of flavors. On the expensive side so bring your credit cards. We will most likely be going back.
I'm a chocolate lover with a dairy allergy. My friends wanted gelato so we found pitango. I was expecting to either do without or maybe have a watery fruit sorbet. They had TEN dairy free flavors including an amazing deep dark chocolate and a dark chocolate orange! I was sooo happy, and it was soooooooo good! I went back two days later for more! And the coffee smelled so good, and my friends loved their dairy gelatos too!
Pitango is always a great stop for a light, fresh, delicious dessert. Their flavors are always inventive, and the quality more than compensates for the high prices and relatively small portions. This location is very compact, but convenient to lots of nearby restaurants.
Top Gelato place with great selection and generous portions, no long waiting time.
I'd give a higher rating if they had more flavors. The chocolate ones I tried were good. Wanted more fresh, light flavored options, as the chocolate felt too rich on a scorching day.
Amazing stuff - we had it after our two dinners in DC - then again the following night at the Fells Point area of Baltimore. All of our combos were superb - chocolate noir/pistacio/chocolate hazelnut, chocolate with chocolate chips with raspberry, chocolate noir with strawberry (yes, there is a theme!). Clean stores, wonderful scoopers, a perfect dessert experience. Wish so badly we had one in Raleigh!
Pricey...okay gelato. Kiwi, mojito and passionfruit combo.
Best.
Take the sorbets, much better then Thomas
Delicious! Had the cantaloupe and the lemon. Never thought sorbet could have such a fresh cantaloupe flavor. Currently (8/2014) having a gift card promotion where a $20 gc costs $15.
Awesome gelato, but be prepared to wait in line! Great gluten free options!
Have you ever felt the wind beneath your wings?
This gelato is better than Bette Midler singing the Beaches sound track while a Swedish masseur with chiseled muscles rubs the tension from your shoulders.
I tried the chocolate/hazelnut, in a large, and I could have eaten 10 more.
It is super pricey, but then again, this is a treat. Although I would apply succumb to diabetes and obesity to eat this delicious nectar for the rest of my life.
Excellent, organic, made on premises, ice cream. They have great basic such as chocolate-hazelnut and some dary flavors, like cardamom, which actually turn out very well.
Amazing, organic, fair trade gelato. Worth every penny. The texture is as good or better than some places I visited in Florence.
Great flavor selections. Not a lot of gelato or sorbet for the money, but finding unusual flavors makes an occasional indulgence worth it. Be sure to ask for tastes.
A cute little gelato shop! Staff was nice. Got chocolate and mango flavors. Prices are average. You're paying for the quality.
We ate the gelato. It was really good. They have lots of flavors of sorbet as well. I would definitely go back when in DC.
Expensive but so decedent my favorite flavors are Black Tea & Green Tea 🙌🏼🍵🙌🏼 could eat buckets of this stuff if it wasn't locked up behind the counter 😋😋 my goal is to try every flavor they have as a (free sample for now) until I win the lottery because then I'll buy the place and run it myself!! 😌🍦🍦😜 …
Great stuff! Always fun to drop by!
I have never had better gelato. Large selection of flavors, knowledgeable staff. The flavors are incredible. Limited seating.
I find myself thinking about the mojito gelato. And the cardamom. It's the best gelato in Penn Quarter. The space is too small for groups of tourists but for the office workers it's a good alternative to coffee breaks. In the winter try the hot chocolate made singularly of melted chocolate--it's decadent and perfect for combating the city chill.
Oh, I love this gelato store! Some traditional offerings of gelato and sorbet, coffee, affogato, and more. The chocolate sorbet is hard to believe, but wonderful. Try it with the coconut gelato!
Really good for its price. No a lot of space to sit. It's local and the music is great.
Best affogato this site of Europe. If they have it on the menu, try the gianduja (chocolate & hazelnut ) gelato in your espresso. The crema is great too. Both re simply to DIE for. We went here three times during our last trip to DC, and would have gone more if we had the time.
Wow! Not only is the gelato tasty but the staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Pitango Gelato if you're in the area. You will not regret it. Enjoy!
They have few good gelato flavors, but most of them were ok and we ended up having the nut options, which was good.
This place has turned to our weekly final stop point after spending the morning in a museum... You can get one of the best gelatos; I often go with half chocolate half pistachio :--)
Really thick and creamy dark chocolate ice cream. A delight in the summer!
Good gelato with authentic, all-natural ingredients. My only complaint is the price, but I do understand why it is so high given the quality of the ingredients and taste
I visited this place last year. The guys are extremely friendly and kind, especially when you can't decide. I had a dark chocolate and a fruit variety. To die for..love gelato!
Awesome gelato and service. Dropped my bowl on the counter and got a replacement almost immediately; the cashier was awesome about it. Overall 5 star experience
Small selection of gelato. Came for the Affogoto, it was great!
Amazing taste. Wish they had some sugarfree options
Loved the pistachio! Ended up going back for it again. A little pricey but delicious
The Chocolate Orange gelato was heavenly.
The gelato is delicious at at $6 for a small scoop it better be! Chocolate and sicilian almond are an excellent combo.
Delicious and soul satisfying 💜 large bacio and espresso …
My favorite gelato place in DC. They have flavors that rotate every couple of weeks. Cardamom is amazing. So is dolce.
Went here after catching a flick at E Street. Was VERY impressed. Good customer service and absolutely delectable gelato, so creamy, smooth, and flavorful.
Some of the finest gelato there is. Of note, the Mojito flavor and the Tangerine. The Mojito is chock full of real mint. The tangerine is so fruity the flavor is almost mildly bitter. Sublime to say the least.
Their hazelnut ice cream is the bomb! They were busy but the service was pretty fast. This place is now one of my favorites.
This place has some absolutely amazing gelato. We had strawberry lemon it was flavor and real .
This place is just awesome. The originality of the ice cream, the friendliness of the staff... One down side though is the cup sizes. The large size cup is really small to me.
Really delicious gelato. Nice staff as well.
Really good gelato - especially try the pistachio! Pricey but similar prices to other gelato shops in the area. Great service.
Delicious and worth every penny. I had the special banana flavor and it was YUMMY.
I think chocolate hazlenuts flavor is the BEST!
Great quality gelato with an interesting selection of flavours. The pistachio and milk chocolate gelato were definitely winners! Yum!
Absolutely love this place, even when packed service is quick yet you dont feel rushed when sampling
The hazelnut and cinnamon gelatos were very delicate. The chocolate noir was a little gritty which suggests cocoa powder instead of chocolate.
The gelato is just amazing. It took quite a while to find this wonderful gelato place in DC. And the hot chocolate, just top. A must for DC. Will definitely go there again.
got a delicious affogatto. made perfectly. I did notice the guy before us paid $6.99 for his gelato cup. my affogato was only $4.50
The only better ice cream I've had ANYWHERE is also the current Guinness Record holder. Definitely the best I've had in the US.
The choices are too many not to make you go mad. The service was phenomenal and the gelato was beyond delicious.
Visiting from jersey & this product is friggin the bomb! Way to rock my world after a long day in the museums. Thank you and I will be back or perhaps pursue franchisee status in NYC. Love it!
Excellent gelato. Long lines, but moves fast. A bit pricey for a cup of gelato (almost $7) but it’s totally worth it.
Staff was friendly and helpful in giving suggestions. Free samples to find a good flavor. Pistachio and espresso affogato was amazing.
Great gelato at a good price. Very friendly staff! Line was a little long but moved quickly.
Generous portion. Real Italian gelato. We tried hazelnut. Creamy and beautiful smooth texture.
Womdefully delicious gelato selection all organic and suatainable ingredients also the Hot Chocolate when in season is bliss.
Hazelnut was the best Gelato. Pistachios tasted so weak, and the creme tasted lemony
Gelato is always delicious, this one was too, however I really don't understand the ridiculous prices for a gelato that did not stand out.
Best gelato we’ve ever had, and amazing welcoming service.. perfect match for a fantastic experience!
Quality ingredients. Delicious flavors (chocolate hazelnut is my favorite). This place is amazing!
On my list of places I must visit on every trip to Washington, D.C. Their Gelato has great texture and flavors.
Great customer service willing to talk about all parts of the business. Sipping chocolate excellent and cinnamon Gelato for affogato was awesome!
The cup sizes are too small.
Great gelato! Great staff!
My only suggestion is to make the tip jar open on top to make tipping easier.
The ice cream was very good and they had a lot of unique flavors. Price was on the higher side.
Great flavors and great gelato/sorbets. Worth it if you are nearby. Has a few indoor seats.
Creamy and delicious! But a little pricey though
Affogatto was rich and tasty.
Very good gelato! The chocolate hazelnut and black tea flavors were awesome!
Great gelato. Something to satisfy two young kids and adults. Pineapple and cantaloupe were my favorites.
They cheerfully let us sample just about everything. It was tough but we settled on 4 flavors of sorbet.
The best tasting gelato I've ever had, and the staff was really nice.
Expensive but delicious and worth it. They have so many interesting flavors and the gelato is so creamy and smooth.
Best Gelato in town. Try vanilla choco chip, the chip enrich the taste. Good services.
The Green apple and hazelnut flavors are to die for😍😍😍 so so good, would brave DC traffic for this! …
The best quality I've cream you can get. Grass fed and tastes great. Not too sweet.
Great coffee. The marrochino (an espresso shot + real melted chocolate) is really tasty.
You haven't had the best gelato this side of the Atlantic unless you have been to a pitango! The chocolate hazelnut gelato is utterly amazing!
Sipping chocolate was thick, tasty, and not too sweet—just like Paris. The staff was very friendly.
Great affogato. We enjoyed it quite a bit. The distracting part was the millennials working there could hardly get off their smart phones long enough to take our order
Cardamon and Chocolate Noir gelato with a Cappuccino amazing! Best ice cream/gelato I've had in the states.
Best gelato ever. Doesn't matter which one you get. Everything is amazing. Sorbets too!
Wide selection of delicious flavors, many of them organic and/or dairy free. Worth the visit.
The gelato was so creamy and the staff was really friendly. Definitely worth the price!
They have some amazing flavors! The cardamom and cinnamon gelatos pair really well together.
Delicious ice cream! Crazy good flavors and amazing customer service. Thank you Pitango :)
Amazing real gelato and impeccable espresso. Worth a detour!!
Very few seats though and no tables.
The dark chocolate gelato was really good. The quality definitely justifies the price.
The gelato is great but the line is really slow. Need an efficient way to take the address thrle customers.
smashing place for coffee and gelato, great options including an Italian sipping chocolate. Great friendly service.
Definitely my favorite ice cream and espresso in DC! Should try all the sorbets!
The staff is very friendly, they have very creative ice cream flavors
Try the sipping chocolate.
They have flavors you don't normally find, and because of that I like it! But it's also a bit too much on the sweet side.
One of the best ice creams I’ve had. Expensive but worth every dollar
Very good coffee
Their Mango Sorbet was the best I've ever had. Easily could be anyone's favorite!
Great selection of flavors. The perfect place to visit on a warm day while your site seeing.
The woman serving us was fantastic, and the gelato was phenomenal. It's kind of expensive but worth it.
Delicious Gelato, good prices. The Cafe espresso is especially good!
Great gelato and sorbets, tried many flavors and I like them all.
Oh my god!!!! Terrific gelato ice cream! What a treat! The kids and parents loved it. Worth the walk.
Lots of interesting flavors. It's a bit on the expensive side, but worth a try. The staff seemed cool.
A great rotation of creative flavors, excellent espresso for affogato. Very high quality.
First time having affogato (espresso and gelato) and it was delicious! Highly recommend this place.
Great little chain, serving amazing gelato and sorbets. The dark chocolate is to die for.
Good service. Cool gelato flavors. They also have coffee.
Had their hazulnet gelato. It was excellent! Highly recommend Pitango for a sweet treat.
The gelato is really tasty but very overpriced. Not much room to sit either.
Their drinking chocolate is to die for! Get a gelato spoon to get every last drop!!! Just a recommendation 🙃 …
The affogato is the thing to get. Let the kids get gelato. Espresso over pistachio or chocolate hazelnut...gives me shivers thinking about it.
Great gelato and very friendly staff. Will try a coffee next time too
Good gelato, but so so overpriced! It costs $6 for a small and they barely fill the tiny cup.
If you are in the area and craving for ice cream or coffee … this is the place to be
Pricey, but great coffee. One of my favorite macchiatos in a while.
Delicious sipping chocolate rich, thick, and not too sweet. Will come here again for sure!
Pitango is always the best! Got a hazelnut and rhubarb gelato with an iced latte. Da bomb. #QUALITY
A bit expensive, but the gelato is awesome and they've got tons of flavors!
Amazing ice cream flavors! Try Bacio, Hazelnut or Lemon!
Excellent! Great flavors, amazing texture, nice atmosphere; will visit again!
Great cafe with amazing gelato and great coffee. That's all that's really needed to be said.
Great gelato flavors and variety. Will definitely be back.
The Chai and cardamom Gelato together was amazing
Great Service, great Gelato!!! Pastries at the end of the counter are amazing as well!
Very tasty, good selection of drinks, service was great
Try the Black Tea Gelato!
Lovely coffee. Melbourne style. I love the new find here in Reston town centre.
Cool, easy to find, taste good. No maybe 10 chairs only. Small place. I like it.
Fantastic gelato. Second only to Gelato Fiasco in Brunswick Maine.
The gelato is alright.
Amazing Gelato. From grass fed views milk from an Amish farm. Just Deliciousr
Very delicious and wonderfully refreshing on a hot day. Well worth the price.
The banana tastes like a real banana! Also the tangerine sorbet is awesome.
Must do in the D.C area.. nothing taste better then some fruit flavored gelato.
Magnificent flavor essences to savor, just like the finest Italian gelato.
Pricey, but I can see why! Very good quality. A little bit goes a long way
Best flavors I have had in a very long time. Great service.
Great gelato. And excellent coffee too.
It was delicious great vibe and great employees
I love the sipping chocolate here! I go out of my way to get it sometimes!
Great products, but the service was very bad. I would go back only for the gelato
Incredibly rich gelato, best I've had.
Such a neat and ambient atmosphere! Gelato is top-notch

Awesome gelato. Cozy place. Friendly staff.
I work near by and I'm constantly stopping by Pitango!! The staff is friendly & their sipping chocolate is out this world.
Honestly the best ice cream I've ever had.
Great gelato but too expensive for the amount you receive 💸 …
Dark chocolate was immense.
Delicious flavors offered and open late. What more could you ask for?
The combination of hazelnut and black tea gelato was life-changing.
Just basically the best gelato ever had
I heartily recommend the passion fruit sorbetto when it's available!
Loved the dark chocolate orange. Love this gelato.
I had a lemonade and it was very good!
Very testy ICE cream
Best gelato in DC. Pricey but worth it.
Very delicious! Awesome flavors! Smooth texture.
Nice ice cream in crowded street.
Best Americanos - better than starbucks. say wha... yes I said it.
Yum. Had to get the large so I could try 3 flavors.
What gelato places should aspire to be when they grow up.
Went there with a friend by chance. It is now our new dessert spot
Must go. Loved it.
Delicious ice cream and super friendly staff
Love the coffee although the place is tiny
Delicious flavors and serving sizes are actually reasonable
Best coffee and gelato around. Friendly staff!
Wonderful place with so many varieties and especially GREAT customer service
Great, authentic, straightforward but interesting gelato and sorbet.
Great gelato from great people. Will be back soon.
Passion fruit and matcha green gelato are the best!
Quite expensive, but absolutely delicious gelato!
The perfect spot for a tasty treat after dinner or on a hot summer day.
Good but prices are way too high for small servings
Fantastic Gelato! Everything Gluten Free!
Tasty ice cream but quite pricey!
Lovely little place! Best affogatto you've ever had!

Best gelato within 100 miles.
Amazing locally sourced gelato!

One of the tastiest ice creams you could find
Very nice but a bit expensive ice cream.
Awesome spot to stop after dinner! Really really good!

Great options to mix and match. Reasonably priced
Great Gelato, but it's quite expensive.
