Reviews of Hot Cakes Capitol Hill

Loved the place and loved the vibe. Have decent of vegan options, at least 1 in each section. Wish they had some more though. I had the vegan molten chocolate and it was superb. Cafe is a bit pricey, but again it's in downtown Seattle and they make fresh cookies/cakes in batches so you are always served warm. Togo containers are perfect. Will recommend this at least once.

Hot Cakes has really awesome and decadent dessert but I do think it's way over-hyped. While the plating is creative, it takes away from the fun of an oozing lava cake by serving it in a container where most of the cake ends up getting stuck to the sides. The desserts are pretty pricey as well and very heavy so I recommend sharing. It's worth a try, the environment is fun, and the desserts are great if you love chocolate but it's not my first choice.
Decent street parking in the more residential areas, you'll likely have to walk a few blocks if you find a spot.

Hot cakes is a must in seattle! I don’t know how many times I’ve eaten there and each is delicious. Monthly flavors are fun to try along with the originals you can’t go wrong. Lots being made gluten free and vegan ice cream is offered. Staff is always so helpful trying to accommodate different topping for food allergies! YOU MUST GO HERE!

I got the lemon cream cake and it was delicious. I highly recommend their molten lava cakes and boozy shakes - I had them in the past and really enjoyed them.
I think the prices are a bit high considering customers are expected to order at the counter and bus their own tables. The atmosphere is very casual and the staff are very nice.

Must visit place for your sweet tooth cravings. This place has lovely ambiance and great hot cake options. We tried their gooey brownie cake and this month’s special hazelnut cake. They both tasted great. A bit pricey but worth it. Will definitely recommend.

The Dark decadence was molten and delicious. It had a very rich chocolate flavour which paired well with the vanilla. It could easily be shared by two people if you are not a big fan of chocolate.
The cookies were okay and the butterbeer was not that great.
The baked items are prepared fresh and take about 10 minute to get ready. It’s nice that they are molten and warm
This place always has a line so If your looking for parking send someone from your party to wait in line and order ahead.
Tony Kilt
The ice cream and sauces in their separate section of the plate make a perfect spoonful-by-spoonful balancing flavour for the very rich and very tasty molten cake. The wait in the evening was quite long but the flavour and experience were quite good.
Milad Nabizada
Great place for desserts. They're known for their molten chocolate cakes made with Theo chocolate but their cookies are also good. They also have gluten free and vegan options. Pictured below are their chocolate chip cookies, dark decadence molten cake, matcha latte, and butter beer.
K Min
Creme Brulee was on the sweeter side but I still enjoyed it. Lavender Ice Cream was very nice too. Unfortunately I didn't really like the Molten Cake - it has a slightly weird flavor.
Arthur
Nice place for a volcano cake & ice cream. They provide lightly smoked chocolate and SSmore favors. With a cup of green tea you can take a nice break on the Capital Hills exploring.
Not too crowed, not too noisy, large space, lots of sunshine. The only pain point is hard to park, for the whole area.
Abhijeet Bubne
Tried both the vegan options and they were great . The cake was better than the cookie but I think it’s just a preference thing.
4 stars as I think it’s a bit on pricier side for 13-15 $ per item
Aiman Al Khachi (Chu)
We ordered the Gooey Brownie Cake and Smoky S'mores. The Gooey is vegan and the Smoky can be made dairy free. Excellent dessert place.
Ashley Barr
As a traveler to the Seattle area, Hot Cakes was recommended as a Seattle must! It was very rich and we definitely needed a glass of milk to help! Learned that they use Theo Fair Trade Chocolate and they have vegan options!
We got the Smokey S’mores Hot Cake and Chocolate Chip Cookie with their house made Carmel Sauce. Both served with Vanilla Ice Cream.
Muath Mahmoud
The lava cake was sooo hoooot and fresh!! The outside seating was pretty good but i am taking one star away because the matcha latte tasted like pure milk and it doesn't taste well at all.
Otherwise everything else and the food was good. They also have good seating outside so the atmosphere is nice specially in spring/summer
Susie Kim
Visited to Vday! We liked their seasonal wine and rosé hotcakes. Pistachio cakes were ok. Great atmosphere and awesome desserts❤️ we had to wait 20-30mins in line. Spacious and they have cute photo booth.
Bruce Fischer
A little pricey but the desserts taste and look great. It's a nice dessert place to go to when you want something a little different and delicious. Lots of gluten free choices.
Luis Turrubiartes
Probably the highlight of our dessert experiences on our latest trip to Seattle. With the cakes being so fresh I wish we would have found this place on our first day so we could have gone more times. The desserts did not last long after we were served. Only would have liked a few more pieces of fruit to balance out the decadence but still great desserts.
Sonya Panich
Wonderful vibe, plenty of gluten-free options, a fire pit to sit around, and lot’s of ice cream and chocolate! Would recommend for a fun and delicious night!
Christina Ng
Nice place to go for dessert. Cookie and ice cream is a big portion and very sweet. Molten cakes aren’t too big. The s’mores chocolate chips are smokey so kids might not like them. They were great and let us know and even sample the Smokey chocolate chips before ordering. They have indoor and outdoor seating.
Jitin Krishnan
Long line on a Monday evening. Great quality food/cakes. Spacious indoor/outdoor seating. Good service. Street parking - sometimes a bit tricky to find a spot.
Karina Lam
I'm always on a lookout for delicious molten lava cake anywhere I go. My friends and I cam across Hot Cakes after dinner and decided to visit for dessert. Upon walking in, you place your order at the front and then they'll give you a number so the staff can serve you when the order is ready. They had so many delicious treats available, even some alcoholic shakes. The wait wasn't long and our cakes were hot and steamy when they came out. Every hot cake paired with vanilla ice cream on the side with various toppings, depending on what you ordered. I went for the Dark Decadence and the name of it says it all. The hot cake was so rich and creamy. The toffee nibs with the vanilla ice cream made it the perfect pairing. Even though the quality of everything was up there, I can't justify giving this spot 5 stars because of the price. One cake was $13 and it was the size of a regular cupcake; a few bites in and it was all gone.

Every chocolate 🍫 fan must try the PNW Campfire Chocolate (comes with a dash of orange 🍊 zest)!!!! Amazing ambience, will be back to try the molten cakes soon. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ …
Ziyad Dadabhoy
When we arrived there was an incredibly long line so we opted to order online which only had a 15 min wait for pickup. This is worth the hype! We ate in our car and it was so good we plan to return tomorrow night for more. The original decadence one is a must try and the peanut butter was a great option for the peanut lovers. I also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie which was so soft and moist. Highly recommend
Joshua Yoon
S'mores Cake is a must try. The burnt chocolate tastes amazing when it's in the liquid phase, not so much in the solid phase. Ask for the non-Newtonian blaze phase chocolate haze, it will leave you in a daze.
SNAP Management
Rich and delicious! We got two desserts and couldn't finish them. Addicting and very Instagramable desserts. Perfect for date night.
Victoria Provenzano
I will be completely frank. The desserts are DELICIOUS but I actually wanted more cake to filling ratio!! For my it was too much melty chocolate, not enough sponge. Still delicious though
Amanda Akers
Lits of great dietary restriction options. We tried the gooey brownie and yuuum! Pretty expensive though and took a bit to get it out. They were very busy though. The people working there were kind and it was a cute and clean space. They had some nice outdoor seating and a fire table by the entrance.
Claire Kung
Great place if craving something sweet, but it’s pretty pricey for lava cake, and one serving really heavy for one person.
Didn’t need to wait in line around ~8pm, we sat outside and the vibe was really nice 👍 …
Sri Lekha
I loved this place. I personally don't like the taste of dark chocolate, so we ordered Gooey Brownie Cake and Choco Chip Cookies🍪
The taste was really good😋
You must try atleast for once😍 …
SRI HARSHA JILLUDUMUDI
Tried the molten cake with strawberry. The molten cakes were too goey and the combination was not so great TBH. If you are getting the cookie and ice cream don’t forget to ask for warmed up cookies or else you get them just cold and they are hard to eat.
Skyler Hidalgo-Andrade
very good customer service,
hot chocolate is delicious and so is the pumpkin bread. they also have a really cool barista, Skye, who made cute latte art on my drink.
Remi Fiori
YUM! Sit down dessert restaurants are hard to come by, but man this one is my fav so far! They’ve got something for everyone. Let’s just say, everything we ordered hit the spot !
Jay Chang
The lava chocolate cake is sooooo good paring with maple ice cream is just perfect ! With a cup of coffee it completes a delicious afternoon snack.
John Parsons
The decadent chocolate and peanut butter molten cakes were great! There was 2 hour Street parking around but pretty full when we went.
Alexander Lemus (Hosmalex)
this combinations is good, cake and ice cream, the flavors are really good and fresh, directly fro the oven.
Nicole Jackson
My favorite dessert place!! They have so many options for those with food allergies and everything is absolutely DELICIOUS. highly recommend recommend! My go to is the dairy free strawberry molten cake. It’s a chocolate molten cake with strawberry filling and dairy free ice cream. It’s incredible!
Derrick
If you're looking for delicious cakes, ice cream, and coffee, this a considerable contender.
Let's start with location. The location is in the middle of a great area in Seattle. Parking is a bit difficult and actually pretty much non-existent but it is worth it.
Next is prices, for what you get, the prices are a little bit high. You get a small portion of whatever it is you ordered and pay a pretty penny for it.
Quality, quality is spot on. Flavor, decor, execution, all done perfectly but a slightly bigger portion would be much appreciated.
It has both interior and exterior seating. Thing is, this business has zero regard for CDC Covid-19 guidelines. Social distancing is little to non-existent and sanitation at tables between customer does not happen. Believe me, if you do not want to get covid-19, wear a mask order, then if you are lucky grab a seat outside.
This place does have good food/drink items, but not a MUST Go business.

YUMMY 😋
If your chocolate craving mode is on you’re gonna enjoy this place so much. They’re using high-quality chocolate (Theo chocolate) which makes a whole lot difference in taste and smell. The portions are good enough for two people to share.
We were a group of 4 and ordered Dark Decadence and Gooey Brownie cake (tasted like Nutella and a bit sweeter than the other one) and enjoyed both of them very much.
Makenzie Kuykendall
So I actually came here because I read online that they have great hot chocolates. I was disappointed by the drink, it hardly tasted like chocolate. HOWEVER! The molten lava cakes were incredible. My fiance and I shared the dark decadence and smoky smores cakes. The portion sizes are perfect and they come with a delicious scoop of vanilla ice cream, which you need to help balance out the richness of the chocolate. I cant wait to go back!

The setup of this place is meant to protect employees from covid, while bunching up customers outside & inside. A short line to place your order requires a mask, but once you're seated (usually with a lot of people around you) you can take off your mask. Seating area and front-of-house (where everything is being made) had a great distance between the two area. Table space, both inside and out, were situated closely (sometimes a few feet apart).
Ordered Smores. What a treat! Decent size to share with another. Smokey chocolate that was definitely smokey. You get to try the chips at the counter before ordering. It's that intense. Try before you buy.
Cold brew float & matcha drinks were good. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to go crazy about. Just good.
Overall, experience was a 5☆, and we found a table inside (as a crowd started forming). Employees will call you out if you have your mask down, or not wearing one at all. It was hilarious as a few were called out on it. Lol! Made the crowd giggle.
Great customer service overall.
Don't expect to enjoy your dessert in a 6ft apart setting. It's not going to happen...
5☆/5☆

The place is nice and cozy. Food and ambiance is very Instagram friendly.
The taste is not bad, though, I'd prefer slightly less sweet and baked a little more. But that might be personal taste.
The place is great for it's novelty of instant baked cakes.
Oden
The environment is really cozy and the employees were super nice. I like that it's open late; surprisingly it wasn't that busy on a Saturday night.
I got the dark decadence lava cake (w/ ice cream) and it was great. Super rich chocolate, so take it slow. Was a bit pricy for how small it was, but I won't complain because I obviously paid for it (and not sure I could eat much more of it).
Z L
Overpriced and does not exceed expectations. Too heavy for my taste but if you like decadent cakes this is good.
Casey T
Highly recommend, lots of vegan, dairy free, and gluten free options! Line was out the door around 10pm on a Tuesday night but was still able to get a table!
Nicholas O'Connor
Stopped by after passing it a few weeks ago, and ordered the Dark Decadence cake. It came in a small paper cup with a scoop of ice cream on the side.
Holy cow, be ready to feel like you're full after just two bites. The molten chocolate inside is incredibly rich; it's hard for the ice cream to balance it out. The exterior cake was very crisp while staying moist as well. I highly recommend it.
For covid, theyve spaced out the tables and have a voluntary contact tracing list.
Priyangi Vashistha
One molten cake can suffice your appetite but your heart will crave for more😍 …
V K
Very aesthetic place with really nice employees. I didn’t love the cakes, the lave to cake ratio was way off imo, with it being 90% liquid chocolate. Overall not a bad experience, but wouldn’t return.
Cecil Hughes
Wow! What an amazing experience for my first time at this beautiful establishment. The cookies were fresh and amazing! The bright spot in my experience was the cashier! Mariah. Keep up the good work.
Suyash Agrawal
Might be overhyped. The quantity wasn't worth the money and the taste was good but not as great as I'd expected. Quite expensive. They need to have smaller portions for cheaper.
Nisrine Banna
Amazing! I had the dark decadence and it was the best desert I have ever had. It’s heavy though so make sure you go when you are hungry.
The only drawback is that it is a pricy. We are a family of 4. We paid around $70 with tax and tips, ouch!
Kalee Quiñones
A must for anyone with a sweet tooth! The pastries, ice cream, and (boozy optional) milkshakes are all unbelievable. All made to order, staff’s always nice.
Nick Nuechterlein
Never mind the cakes, try the grilled cheese! Went here with a couple of friends on a dark and rainy night. I didn't confess this, but I was brimming with dread: I was already full of sugar from some foolish afternoon escapades with so-so ice cream, and I had money on my mind after passing half-a-dozen people sleeping on the street. Of course that is another story--it's hard to justify 70% of the things I buy when such suffering is so pervasive. Pro-tip here that helps you live with yourself: try to order some extra food, at least on occasion, to hand to the hungry. But, back to the review; my friends did love the brownie-this and molten-that, but the grilled cheese was some of the best I've had in Seattle and had at least the illusion of being healthier. Next time I'll get two, one for me and one for someone else to appreciate!
Jenn Uhen
Yum!! The lava cake was incredibly rich and the ice cream was a good balance to its richness. I also had the creme brûlée which had a thick sugary top that took a few spoon taps to break, which I loved. I could see the small vanilla bean specks in the custard of the crème brûlée. Treat yourself and enjoy some Hot Cakes!
Dhara Patel
I have always had an amazing experience here for the molten cakes with the ice-cream.
Ronald Smith
A beautiful place. I was impressed with the service of delivering you to the restaurant, milo. Free parking on the territory of Petropavlovsk, if you go to a restaurant. There is something to pay for. The restaurant is in a great location with stunning views. As a lover of Tom Yama, I can say unequivocally, he is not worth his money 890 rubles., it is better to take something else, since the portion is small, the serving is nothing special, the taste is worthy! Try something else better, and Tom yam has places where they cook better! It's not specialized. When there are a lot of people, the dishes clearly do not have time to clean up in a timely manner
Abhash Kumar Singh
Amazing molten dark chocolate cake. Same as the ballard location.
Amanda Hu
I think it was just reheated cake from their refrigerated box, but it was good quality chocolate. The ice cream was very standard with caramel. Honey boy latte was okay, but I'm not a big coffee person.
Alisha Thompson
If you love chocolate, you'll love this place. This was my first time here and it was so good. The molten cakes were cooked for perfection and the ice cream and red wine I had made for a perfect pairing. We went on a Tuesday evening and there wasn't a wait and seating was about half full. Each dessert took about 10 minutes to prepare and the presentation made the experience even better.
Megan Zimmerman
Best cute desert shop that's open late. The cake was absolutely delicious, they had so many treats the atmosphere was amazing. Parking was difficult being a late Saturday night but it was so worth the wait. That cake straight melted in my mouth or was a chocolatey heaven paired with ice cream to take its rich taste. Highly recommend checking this place out!
Hanna Slaughter
This upscale dessert spot is complete with classy vibes, elegant decor, and even their own photo booth. The most incredible shake my brother has ever had and the best lava cake you will ever spend money on. A little pricey but it’s worth it for the fresh ingredients. You can actually taste the difference. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the fire pit and sunset. 10/ 10 recommend!
Vi
Very good however also extremely expensive. One would think the higher cost may be to extend fair wages but then there is an auto gratuity and further prompt for up to 27% tip. Then being told to bus your own tables. Really leaves a bad taste.
Johnson Dea
Great desserts. The peanut butter seasonal milkshake I had was my favorite. The pies didn't blow my mind because they're all the same chocolate lava cake except with different toppings.
I would come here again for the shakes if I was nearby.
Laura Krahel
A must-return! My friend took me here for my birthday and it was just the best. How could you not love a warm, gooey molten cake?! With bubbly? A dream. Even if you're GF or vegan Hot Cakes has an option for you (and from someone who is usually neither of those things, don't worry for a sec it still tastes just *chefs kiss*)
Sagar Vora
Absolutely loved the hot Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and more important that the icecream and cake were egg less so we could enjoy it even more. The chocolate cake was perfect, not that bitter and not that sweet as well and ice cream was even good. We just this one item as it was only one which was without egg so ..overall loved the place and even the service. Good place to enjoy deserts.
Candace Ho
Came here on a Friday around 7:30pm - almost all the seats were taken. There was a short line at that time. The staff was friendly and patient with us and our questions as we couldn't decide what to get! We ended up getting the s'mores hot cake and their seasonal sourdough apple cobbler.
Their hot lava cakes are baked to perfection, with a rich ooey center that is SUPER indulgent. It is absolutely delicious and comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I always have a hard time finishing one by myself so I would recommend sharing a lava cake and getting something else that's not chocolate to balance it out.
The sourdough apple cobbler was a perfect complement to our lava cake as it wasn't rich and indulgent and comes with a nice helping of ice cream as well. The syrup was a little too sweet for me but was still a great cobbler that is piping hot out of the oven in its cute little ramekin.
This place can get crowded later in the night so I would suggest coming early to find easier seating. Their lava cakes and seasonal desserts take about 15-20 to bake so keep that in mind when you come/pay for parking/etc.
Edward Stoughton
Friendly staff. Really loving the vibe of the place. Kids enjoyed their cookies and ice cream. Their molten cakes are to die for.
saurabh gagpalliwar
I really liked the menu options and the vibe of this place. The milkshake was neatly done, was prefectly sweet, and very thick. I'd definitely want to visit this place again to try out the other options. I'd do the milkshake again as well :)
Kevin Kang
Can't go wrong with the dark decadence! Pretty good lava cakes and ice cream for a price. Be prepared for a line as this place is popular and will sell out of seasonal items.
The lava cakes are crispy on the outside and gooey in the center with a rich chocolatey taste. The ice cream is good quality and caramel bits delicious as well and small enough to not give you a jaw workout. The space is trendy and the staff nice.
The price though is a bit high for a regular place, pretty good for a date night or a treat. The interior is also pretty toast as they bake the cakes to order. This also adds 10 to 15 minutes of waiting as well.
An overall good place but just a bit short of amazing.
Honesty IS the Key!
Coffee & desserts are great. A little expensive & the baristas could be a little nicer.
Priyal M (festivefunkylife)
This is super fun place with super- tasty desserts. Their chocolate decadence and S’mores from molten cakes category in menu. It was so delicious. This is must place for people travelling first time to Seattle. They have concept of molten cakes with ice cream like Choco-lava cake with icecream.
Mary L
This place is unbelievably good. Luckily we went when there wasn’t a line but I’ve heard the wait can get lengthy. The cakes were so, so rich. I’d recommend sharing cakes, I think it’d be hard to finish one alone. The drinks were rich as well.
Cristiane Batista Dias
Very good! I recommend the PNW Campfire Chocolate. We also had the Coconut Cream Molten Cake and Caramelized Pineapple.
Joshua Minoda
Good place that has a little something different than the rest. I usually go to the other location but this one is nice as well. I got a grilled cheese and the salted caramel milkshake. You should definitely try the milkshake. The decadent chocolate cake that my wife got is very decadent (as the name suggets) so beware. You need to eat the ice cream with the cake or it would be too much.
Bobby Ball
I can't say enough great things about Hot Cakes. All of their staff are super friendly, and every single dish I've had was excellent. Their flavor pairings are always spot on, mixing a bit of sweet, salty, and sometimes smokey flavors. If you love a good dessert, I'd highly recommend you stop in.
Shaun R S
Nice place to chill with good dessert and coffee after a night out in Seattle.
Parking wasn't too much of a hassle here.
Shresta Srinivas Rao
Dark decadence is my favourite. The molten cake is very rich and the vanilla icecream is light. Together makes a bomb combination. The staff here is friendly. The atmosphere is very cosy and romantic. Perfect for a date night dessert. They have special seasonal menu, which they update based on fresh seasonal produce. They locally source all ingredients and hence the menu is not too reasonably priced. They also have an outdoor seating area.
Phuong Ngo
Had the peanut butter cake, but was able to taste the smores and the caramel apple crisp one.
Out of all three, i think everyone present agreed that the apple one was the best one. The flavors of the other two, while flavorful, were too rich for our taste. May be due to already having dinner, but it felt super heavy on our stomachs. Personally, I think the ratio of liquid innards to solid cake was way too favorable to the liquid, I would've preferred more 50/50 than 80/20. Good thing they had it paired with ice cream, cause I don't think I would've finished it by itself.
Strictly speaking on flavor, the peanut butter and smores, as far as I can tell, had those characteristics purely from the ice cream. While both cakes had the toppings that attribute its name, beneath was just pure unadulterated rich chocolate flavor. And while I cleaned up everything on my order, still felt heavy afterwards. So either have this on a empty stomach or have a light meal before hand.
Mamatha A
Ordered dark decendance molten cake with vanilla ice cream, it tastes yummy. I recommend to share the desert as its bit difficult to complete alone
Cathi Kelley
I love love love Hot Cakes! I go there every Friday for a latte (salted honey, but now may be out of season), and a Blondie. The people who work there are super nice and the store is clean and inviting. Just a heads up-parking is scarce and it gets crazy busy in the evening, but that never deters me!
Aplih A
Best place to satisfy your sweeth tooth with all the chocolate you can think of. The wait (for cooking time) is worth it cz the cakes are fresh although I’m not sure if I’d wait in long line outside to place an order cz the menu still has limited selection when it comes to non-chocolate like fruits and nutty flavors.
Camila Matamala-Ost
Creme brûlée is pretty bomb as are the Nutella milkshakes. It's bit overpriced, but almost everything I’ve ordered there has been good, so it's worth the price. The only things I haven’t liked were the berry cobbler and bread pudding. The cobbler had a nice flavor but was much to sweet and the bread pudding was also to sweet and not moist enough.
The menu changes pretty frequently, which is exciting in my opinion.
It’s a fun place to hang out late and night. Don’t be daunted by how full it is, tables usually open up pretty quickly.
Seth T
Delicious! This is a fantastic dessert spot. Somewhat pricey but on par for the area, they have incredible chocolate cakes served with ice cream. They even have a few vegan options. Staff is very friendly and and always make sure to get everything correct. There is a big downside to coming here... The line! Always a line on a Friday or Saturday night. But it's worth the wait.
Eric Duncan-Galvez Bravo
I have walked by this place many times, but finally gave in and decided to give it a shot. Their desserts aren't huge portions; however, quality is better than quantity here! I got the apple cobbler this visit and it was cooked to perfection. Also, the mochas are the best I have ever had!
Oscar Zeng
One of the best dessert spots in Seattle, but everything comes at a high price (a glass of milk for $3). For $11, the lava cake was smaller than a tennis ball, but my first bite out of the cake was absurdly satisfying, addicting, and just amazing. The gooeyness and warmth provided by the molten chocolate combined with the side serving of caramel drizzled and nut topped vanilla icecream was truly unforgettable. Bread budding was also around $11, but came as a much larger portion! Workers are kind and patient, (cashier explained her reccomendations and made our descion easy!) All in all, a must visit for sweets lovers! Will definitely be coming back soon!
Nour Jabri
Dessert was fantastic. The setting and decor was also really nice. It was a good place to try something new. There was a long line but the staff was very efficient and helpful.
We ordered a creme brulee ,a chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream on a waffle cone
The vanilla ice cream was amazing it had a really unique flavor .
Everything else was really good as well!
If I come back to Seattle, I would definitely come here again .
Susie Su
So sweet and so delicious, highly recommend the strawberry flavored one. The strawberry is very good for cutting through the thick chocolatey taste!
Got some of the frozen jars to go too, def not as good as it was in person though
Grace Gravestock
Enjoyed trying the vegan shake of the day: rhubarb pink peppercorn. Friends and family enjoyed vanilla soft serve with various topping options. The house specialty, though, is the molten chocolate lava cakes served ice cream for a refreshing temperature and flavor contrast.
Victor Wang
Really delicious unique take on desserts. The menu is quite large with what feels like an overwhelming amount of choices. However don't be afraid as the cashiers are extremely knowledgeable and are not afraid to spend some time walking you through the menu. I got a smoked chocolate molten cake with ice cream and Graham crackers. Super delicious and unique.
M M
I normally come here for the chocolate lava cakes (highly recommend the strawberry one), but the tomato soup and grilled cheese was excellent too!
Shikha Suneja
My all-time favorite place for desserts. I always order the vegan molten chocolate cake and it is delicious. I wish they add more vegan options in future though!
Debbie Perelman
Delicious selection of desserts. Milkshakes, boozy milkshakes, hot cakes with ice cream, cookies, and more. In addition, there are some savory dishes as well like Mac n cheese. We got bread pudding and the ballard fog milkshake. Seating inside as well as outdoor seating with a fireplace.
Felicia Murrell
Enjoyed this fantastic experience for my birthday. The molten lava cake was warm and delicious. The cocktail offerings were fabulous and the blackberry lavender center in my dark chocolate cake was a treat. I would visit here over and over again. So glad it’s too far away to be a thing.
Divya Nairy
One of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten. The cakes and cookies are freshly made. Must have: strawberry hot cake.
Visited again after a month and found the desserts extremely sweet
momo
I love the one in Ballard and wanted to try this location since we were in Capitol Hill. The same great taste and service. The parking is horrible, but there are several spots to sit at. Although, some people come in and grab a seat for 6 people when only 2 people are having desserts. I'm not sure how that works considering other patrons actually pay for dessert and can't find a seat. Places like this are great, but the seating situation can be horrendous.
I'm a fan of the Milk Chocolate Hazelnut. It's very rich and heavy. The portion may appear small but it is filling.
Eugene Lee
The molten lava cake was super rich and chocolatey. Went perfect with a glass of milk. Their seasonal cookie the mixed berry oatmeal was also great! Can’t go wrong at this place!
Joy N
I just sat down inside last weekend and it was a wonderful experience! Apparently very empty compared to normal. This was an elevated desert experience, I think I felt sugar high after it! Definitely worth going out of your way for if you have a sweet tooth :)
Meghan Cherry
Artesinal molten lava cakes with a diverse array of flavors and options. Their basic cake is even gluten free. Delicious, luxurious, and a great time. It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, though.
Minx M
Visited with my best friend for so QT. Staff was quick, efficient and professional. Desserts were beautifully plated with rich, decadent flavours, textures and temperature.
Also snagged a bottle of the Limited Batch Old Overholdt Rye-based caramel sauce. The mister is going to be so pleased with his Valentine's Day gift if it is anything like the quality of the full desserts. Am definitely going to return, might even bring him with me next time!
Nicholas Gangloff
Very fun place to hangout, or grab food and bring home. Amazing flavors and very friendly staff. A must stop if you are looking for something sweet after eating in capital hill or drinking.
Xiaojing Ji
Lava cake is a must try! I'd say cake is pretty heavy, so go there when you have plenty of room in your tummy! I also love their chai latte, not too sweet, its spice and aroma can go along with the lava cake too

Best.
Ever.
Molten.
Chocolate.
Cake.
The end.
Just kidding. It's not the end. We will be back later. It's the best ever. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 Star is because the $11 tag for something that looks to be a 4oz cake and 1 scoop of ice cream is a big high. I get $11 for a delicate dessert with pricey ingredients, but some I don't get.
Beautiful interior with plenty of options. I enjoyed the most popular item which is the dark chocolate option.
Make sure you bus your own tables- the cake containers are compost items not stuff that gets washed again.
Jonah Stowe
Simply freakin delicious! Super good cakes and great ice cream. Also very good service and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a bit too expensive but it was still fun to check it out.
Laura Monchun
Soooooooo amazingly good. Customer service was amazing. They put a bday candle in some bread pudding for my friend. The s’mores cake is chocolatey marshmallow heaven.
Laura Carter
While visiting Seattle, we went to Hot Cakes on Olive street. I enjoyed the gluten free chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream and caramel/chocolate sauce! My boyfriend had the Cafe Mocha. Everything was delicious!!
Arjuna Hayes
Not a fan of the peanut butter one, way to salty/intense for my taste. Even the ice cream has peanut butter flakes in it, making it really hard to get through without a lot of water or milk to wash it down.
The dark decadence was pretty darn good, but again exceptionally heavy. We couldn't get through 2 lava cakes between the 5 of us.
Rating 3 stars instead of 4 because I feel like the price wasn't worth what we got. It was solid, but we also had to pay $3 for a glass of milk on top of the (not cheap) desserts. Overall, not a bad place, though it'll probably be a while before my sweet tooth brings me back here.
Bobby Baer
Echoing the reviews of countless others. This place is awesome. The molten cake and ice cream hit the spot and was top notch is taste and consistency. The staff there was very friendly and for how busy they were, service was fairly quick. I had this high on my list of places to visit during my trip, and it was definitely justified.
Roya Habibi
I've lived on the top of Capitol Hill for 3 years and ashamedly I've never stopped to investigate Hot Cakes until I heard it recommended by the Seattle Met food editor. I'm a dessert lover. And even at its most basic way of judgement, the name Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate should have enticed me. Perhaps Hot Molten Chocolate Cakes would have done it sooner....
Regardless, their food was the cake was obviously to die for, but the scoop of ice cream with topping was literally the cherry on top. We also got the grilled cheese, because, obviously we needed to test that too. All around fab. A+
My only complaint would be to somehow add more tables. Probably not possible but more seating would be nice.
Sumaithri Mukkamalla
This place has one of amazing dessert options!
Dark Decadence and Creme Brulee are my personal favorites. Weekends can get quite busy with long lines. But it's totally worth all the wait!
Manjiri Gawand
Absolutely love the Gooey Brownie Cake! I have it with regular (non-vegan) icecream. The ambiance and service is great too!
Daniel Loo
Great place for dessert. Make sure you come hungry or split hot cakes because they are heavy and filling! Hot cakes are made to order and come out mushy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The ice cream here is also phenomenal and had peanut fudge squares in it that were a delicious touch.
Tiffany K
Every time I visit Seattle, I always make it a point to drop by Hot Cakes. Their Molten Cake of the Month have never disappointed. It's too bad these flavor combinations don't stick around longer. This month's flavor was the Fraiche Raspberry Verbena: signature molten lava cake with a lemon filling served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, raspberry jam, fresh raspberries and mini lemon verbena meringues. This combination has been one of my favorites so far. I highly recommend.
Willow Hayward
A MUST visit place if molten chocolate cakes are high on your list of appealing desserts. Even has vegan options. Do get there BEFORE 7:30 on a weekend or the line may be out the door.
Andrew Aumont
This seemed a bit over hyped on Google but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I'm so glad I did. The Moulten Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream and toffee was unbelievably good. Shop was super clean and the staff was awesome. 5/5, I will be back someday. Wish I had one close to home.
Yvette Tang
Finally I tired their dark chocolate hot cake that was fantastic! I always dislike vanilla ice-cream BUT their vanilla caramel ice-cream go very well with the rich dark chocolate lava cake(when I ate the cake alone, it was a little too rich for me).
I ordered it almost 11pm (after dinner) so I couldn’t finish the whole dessert. I just finished the ice-cream and brought the leftover cake home for next day dessert.
Taylor Pope
The dark chocolate cake was a chocolate dream I didn't want to wake up from. The Butter beer was more gingery than I expected, but was also delightful.
Ahda Arifa Ismail
Favorite molten chocolate cake: definitely Dark Decadence. The S’mores is a bit too sweet. Their $6 dessert drinks are all great!
Josh Kurnot
Top service and knowledgeable staff. I appreciated the genuine care and understabdung that was taken to help me select menu items for my sensitive dietary needs. Much pride is taken in the sourcing of local and international ingredients. There were many gnats flying around that distracted from the ambiance of dimmed lighting and table candles that were brought out after sunset.
Yasmin Mohamed
If it wasn’t for Gly I feel like my experience at hot cakes would not be a 10/10!!! Cakes are good too!
Serina Gee
Pricey but delicious. High ceilings contribute to a very spacious feel. We were the only people at the time dressed super casually in joggers and graphic tees haha. Got the dark decadence hot cake and a basil mint cookie milkshake, both of which were very rich and yummy.
Ray McDivitt
Got the s'more cake. Nice presentation. Glad I went with the s'more as it had a truly unique flavor, albeit extremely rich, and left me with that distinct campfire taste. That being said, I don't see what's so special about something that amounts to a $10 cupcake-sized brownie with (a lot of) hot fudge in the middle, a graham cracker, and scoop of ice cream. Would I go back? Probably not. Leave this as something you do if you happen to be in the area, are really craving very rich chocolate, and haven't been before.
Emma Mindel
Best dessert place in the c̶o̶u̶n̶t̶r̶y̶ world in my opinion. Everything on the menu is incredible, but their signature molten cakes are a must. Pro tip: you can get frozen hot cakes to-go!
Sydney Clark
The best meal we had in our time in Seattle - I'm gluten free and was happy to see how many options there were for me! I probably could have eaten everything on the menu but was happy to limit myself to one lava cake - the "dark decadence".
Kesha Kanakiya
Very tasty, great quality desserts but a little pricey.
We ordered the decadent molten cake (comes with the molten cake and a scoop of ice cream with some toppings) for $11 before tax/tip. It was really yummy, not overpoweringly sweet, and well balanced flavors. Great ambience as well!
Jacob Pettingill
There isn't much space to sit if you come at a busy time in the cold. The desserts are great and the prices are decent.
Shreya Sriram
Happy that they have vegan options here - the vegan cake and the vegan shake being my go-to combo.
Also, very grateful that they use bioplastic packaging and help me feel happy that I'm not adding trash to rhe environment.
Nicole Zhu
We keep coming back to this place for their grilled cheese haha. The warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream is beyond imagination. Simply delish. Must try.
Laura Alexandra
Very sweet but very delicious. I ordered one and it was enough for the two of us. There is a variety of cookies and toppings that you can choose.
Anna Yeager
Had the milk chocolate hazelnut molten lava cake and it was good. I think the ice cream was better than the cake. I would say it’s overpriced for the size of cake you get. I would definitely come back and try something else on the menu. Overall it was good, but not amazing.
ET
We ordered the smore and the warm cookie. The s’mores had their smoked chocolate which was a bit too overpowering IMO. The cookie was okay but not that amazing for the price.
It is very sweet and honestly one order can be shared amongst three people.
kanika kapoor
Highly recommended place for desserts. You are surely going to love it. Must Try the warm chocolate brownie with vanilla.....!
Julie K
This is a hot place! We went to get some dessert and the line up was long and it was packed!! We figured it will be impossible for us to get seats so we decided to get our dessert 'to-go'.
Staffs were so friendly and really liked the interior of this location.
Their dessert were delicious! I'd like to go back and try their cocktails and milkshakes! (they have boozy shakes too!!)
They also have their own store merchandise and food that you can purchase as souvenirs.
Mozan Albuainain
Tasted the smoky S'mores cake with perfectly toasted marshmallow on top 🤤🤤 It's to die for.. must try in Seattle …
Michelle Rivera
My wife is dairy and gluten free and she is in heaven here. We always buy their cute little lava cakes to go since they are to die for. Wouldn't even know they are dairy and gluten free. Eating them freshly baked there is also a treat.
Kinga Pabiniak
When we got there the line was so long, but it was worth to wait! We decided to order crème brulée and dark decadence molten cake. You have to try it!
Caroline kaiser
Fun experience! Dark decadence and smoky s'mores cakes are delicious. They give you a sample of the smoky chocolate to make sure you'd like it. The cakes are pretty heavy, maybe one cake for 2 would be enough? Hot chocolate and london fog drinks were very good too.
P B.
Totally loved this place, the atmostphere and the decoration are nice. The service is good and fast. The hot cake was very sweet and thick in flavor. It's a good place to hang out with friends.
Jasser Alharbi
Amazing atmosphere and services. The menu has a lot of choices. I ordered peanut butter cup, milk chocolate hazelnut and caramelized banana split. All of them were very delicious and yummy. However the place is to crowded especially on Friday and Saturday. Also, it is hard to find parking around it. Just be prepared for that.
Breaking Hearts
Creme brulee was to die for. Both the home made vanilla ice cream and creme brulee were the best I have ever had. Well worth the wait in line. I would wait in lines 10x as long to enjoy these treats again.
Mohammed Rangwala
Nice cozy setting in a good area of Capitol Hill. The Dark Decadence molten chocolate cake is simply amazing. And don't be deceived by the portion size, it is very heavy!
Deepthi Rao
Good place for some dessert after a meal. Nothing exceptional about the place. Quantity offered for the price could be increased, though. Liked the ambience, especially the seats near the fire. Decent place.
Marisa Lopez
Delicious! A bit of a wait but worth it!
Fang H
Some very creative things here. Chocolate tastes great. But the lava cake is REALLY sweet. I also wished that the smore was freshly toasted.
Ericka Humbert
SO GOOD. GO HERE. Delectable molten cakes (think of a brownie in the shape of a cupcake with a giant molten core) that melt in your mouth and pair so well with the vanilla ice cream they give you. Highly recommend the peanut butter one.
Shivanjali Gupta
We had to wait for 15-20 mins to place the order and 15 mins for order to come because of the weekend rush. We ordered Dark Decadence. Flavor of both Vanilla Icecream and Chocolate Lava was really good and was not too sweet.
sydney silver
Before I lived in Seattle it was a must to get these every time I visited my sister!! They’re so good.
Purav Shah
A little too sweet for my liking...but good stuff nonetheless. Must try!
Jesse Prather
The atmosphere was nice and the desserts were original and so good. The molten cakes we ridiculous good and the chai tea was the best I've ever had.
Rajasekhara S
Atmosphere is very good in this place you have to order your cake and wait in a table for your orderd cake hot chocolate cake with ice cream is very famous here in weekend and on sunday's there will be a que
Ilisha
Yummmm this place is delicious. I love the brownies and the molten lava cakes. On the pricey side but so good.
Ardo Kusuma
Got the smoky s'mores.
Love everything about it. Not overly sweet at all. Even the vanilla ice cream too. I told myself that I should probably ask for no ice cream because generally ice cream at places like this just tastes like sugar. Well well well, I ended up finishing the whole thing, even the cake. Not overly sweet, all great. Very unexpected.
Scott Faulk
We enjoyed the Dark Decadence”. It was just the right amount to share and was truly divine. I could also suggest picking up a cookie or two to go, more quality indulgence worth trying.
Kate Lowe
My boyfriend got the Smoky Rocky Road Milkshake (made with a smoky chocolate they create) and I got the Dark Decadence Molten Chocolate Cake - they were both very chocolatey rich and delicious. My only complaint is that it is SO expensive and not that you need it but the cake portions are so small that it's kinda sad.
Astha Arora
This place is my husband’s favorite place, we went to try something new so we ordered two flavors one was their most popular one and other one was hazelnut, hazelnut was on the list for me but I find it very overpriced and less quantity
E
I didn’t love it, but for people with a sweet tooth, this would be just want they’d want. For me, a bit too sweet! Not the most nuanced recipes.
Sidonne Roznowski
It was okay, probably wouldn’t visit again. I love brownies and ice cream and molten lava cakes but this was borderline chocolate soup. If you like that then this is your place.
Darrell
Pricey, but worth the price!!
Order online so you don’t have to wait in line.
Gooey brownie was great!! It was chocolatey but not overwhelmingly so. The ice cream they gave was actually thick and creamy.
Dark Decadence was way too rich for us. It was chocolate overload. We had to abstain for chocolate for about 2 weeks after eating this.
Sowmya Pattabhi
Great place to enjoy molten chocolate cakes. Excellent desserts
Warren Mui
Very unique desserts and sweets. Will definitely come back to try to other menu items.
Jess G
If you are visiting Seattle this is a must stop. Delicious cakes and hot chocolate!
Josephina B
The chocolate lava cakes are amazing. I recommend that you sample the smoked chocolate and caramel before purchasing. No one in our party liked these items.
Cache Hancey
Really great cakes and flavors. I'd give it 5 stars but it was pretty expensive for a little cake and ice cream. Perfect date spot.
Kathryn A (Kat)
We arrived an hour before close and they were out of cakes :( the employee was apologetic & kind and helped us buy from their to-go selection. The cakes are RICH so be prepared. They’re best if you split with a friend and/or get extra ice cream.
Jane Mathias
Stopped by to cheer up from depressing gloomy seattle rains for the past few days and chocolate surely worked its magic! Ordered the dark decadence with chocolate sauce while my husband stuck to the traditional dry burned caramel. We both loved the hot cakes with vanilla ice cream and cocoa nib toffee bits. It was perfectly warm moist goey chocolate cake perfect for a rainy day (rather any day). The vanilla ice cream pairs up very well with the theo chocolate hot cakes. They take about 10-15mins to be freshly baked so please be patient and it is worth the wait for sure! I wish they would open up another branch in West Seattle apart from their locations in Ballard and Cap Hill. Highly recommend this place.
Gaurav Krishna
It's a nice dessert place in capital hill area. Their molten cake with ice cream desserts are super awesome also the booze shakes are wonderful. They have wonderful staff, and quick service but expect 15-20 min wait time on weekend evenings before ordering or getting seats.
They take all the necessary pandemic precautions. So
Hiruni Jayasekera
Never gets old. The cakes are super shareable but also perfect for one person as well. The vegan one is the best one hands down!
Daniel Hernandez
This is my happy place.
Try the smores but with a dark decadence cake.
The Mexican drinking chocolate makes me feel like I am Johnny Depp in the movie Chocolat.
In the picture is the new one, cookie dough. It was the bombdotcom.
Delger Nyamsuren
Must check this place out. The most delicious ice cream and shake I ever had. Vanilla shake cost 8$ and next time I am gonna try shake with whisky which is 14$
Chris W
This place is damn delicious. We were choosing between the molten cake with ice cream or the hot cookie with ice cream. We went with the cookie since the cake took 15 minutes. All they had was the dairy-free gluten-free cookie, but you couldn't taste any difference. It was pretty darn incredible. They also have savory, a grilled cheese which we didn't try But we did get a latte. Would definitely recommend the anise cardamom latte.
Robert Gorini
The price point is high, but it delivers.
Recommend for sure!
Londyn Kim
The deserts here are freaking delicious and the service is some of the best. I recommend trying them out when out when you get chance.
Divya M
I love this place. I keep going back. Dark decadence is my favorite. I tried Hazelnut, s'mores and cookie dough. Love the lava cakes.
Umair Mirza
It was one of the best desserts I had in Seattle. We ordered the Dark decadence molten lava and a vanilla shake. Worthy to mention, the shake was not filled with overwhelming amounts of crushed ice like other places do and had the perfect amount of sweetness to it.
Sara Hume
So rich and decedant but worth it. Pro tip: if you eat it at night be prepared to stay up a while
Lela Palmese
Soo good I reccomend this place. We went for dessert and was not disappointed
Jasmine N
S'mores cake and ice cream 😜😋 get the smokey chocolate 🍫 because it tastes like camping. …
Brian Zabela
Chocolate cake was lava gooey and served over a single scoop of plain vanilla ice cream, both small. Good but not wow. Parking was atrocious.
Moose
Good place to hangout and have some dessert.
Will say their molten cakes are a bit heavy and filling, and quite pricey for something so small but wouldn't mind having it once a while with friends again
Joe Voelk
The miniature trees complete the pacnw aesthetic bringing a oaky aroma throughout the ecosystem, would 7/7 recommend this to a friend
Christian Oshiro
Very good chocolate cakes and ice cream desserts, etc and nice ambience. Also staff are nice, but at ~$11 a piece with a small scoop of ice cream, the price is a bit high.
June
Great desserts and cute place. We got the smores molton cake and creme brûle.
Nazmus Sahadat
We had the Dark decadence. It was pretty good. Highly recommended 😊 …
Cameron Cox
Oh what a terrible place to go when on a diet ..
Thankfully I was in full holiday posona and could do what I pleased. Do miss a chance to try this joint out crew. Great for us sweet tooth crew.
Samantha Anderson
The manager Michael just made my entire life worth living
kandhar kurhade
The Dark Decadence hot cake is one of my favorites here. This place also has great vegan options
Reshma Vali Shaik
Must try place for me in Seattle. Love the molten cakes both the vegan and non vegan version. Couldn't take away the taste of the molten cakes from my mind. Ill visit Seattle again for these cakes 😋 …
Hassaan Shakeel
Delicious molten cakes. Gooey hot cake and cold ice cream. Perfect combination
Bow Covered Bunnie
Really tasty lava cakes that are a fun outing worth the trip! They’re pricy at about $12 a lava cake, but they’re incredibly rich and beautifully presented. Two people can easily share one and walk out happy. And they do fabulous boozy milkshakes to match. Super fun for a date or nightcap.
Kayla Darrington
I’m a chocoholic and this WRECKT me. And the Mac and cheese? Praise God.
Claire Knudsen-Latta
Had an overall burned flavor. Kinda disappointing for the cost.
Joe Thompson
Went around 10pm and line was out the door. Worth the wait for the hot cookie and ice cream. Wife got the s'mores molten lava cake but the cake part wasn't very good. The rest of her dish she liked though
Shaylin Anzaldua
We shared the Smores Molten Cake and the Creme Brulee of course. Eat outside by the fire pit if you can snag that perfect spot. Delicious
lance arnold
Thought I would give this place a try and ordered delivery, but half of my order was missing. The food I did get was good but kinda overshadowed by the missing items I paid for. I eventually got a partial refund.
Jean Tenca
Wow! My wife and I were blown away by this place. We got the hazelnut molten lava cake and it was spectacular. The lava cake, the ice cream, everything tasted amazing. I almost ordered a second one because it was so good. When we went it was pretty crowded so it took a while to find seats. We ended up sitting at the window bar and found the seats to be uncomfortable. Regardless, this would make a great date night dessert stop. We'll definitely be back!
Persia Aziz
I am not a big fan of sweet in general but it is impossible to not like this one
Anne Rhodes
Food is too good! Warm molten cakes, i had a lavender blackberry that was awesome.
Pablo Tapia
Bomb dot com!!! This place serves the best chocolate in town—all shapes and sizes and flavors and textures.
Kira A.
Only been once so far, but enjoyed the dessert I got: their classic dark decadence. If, like me, you absolutely must have something normal before dessert, they also offer savory grilled cheese and mac and cheese, which I plan to try in the future.
Lots of seating; would be a good place to bring a date.
Skye Bishop
Super impressed with the staff's ability to stay peppy when they're crazy busy
Aishanee Wijeratna
Absolutely delicious cakes that are baked to order! They are a little pricey at $10/cake, but in my opinion completely worth it. The classic dark chocolate cake is so rich and decadent that despite its small size, I struggled to finish it. The interior of the store is also really nice, with modern decor and spacious wooden tables and plenty of seating. I would highly recommend the dark decadence cake and the chocolate hazelnut cake as well!
Jan Nowak
It's fine. I liked the hot chocolate and the dark decadence dessert. The service is also very nice. On the other hand their chocolate silk pie tastes like something closer to butter than chocolate, they don't have sweeteners and comfortable sitting spots are sparse. Personally, I also prefer a bit more cozy atmosphere and Hot Cakes is all open space with a lot of people talking all around you, so it feels a bit like a train station.
Jolie Abbott
Their deserts here are freaking amazing and the service is always great. I recommend trying this place out when out when you get a chance.
David Hsu
This dessert place has some very tasty and rich desserts. Generally, anything you order here should be shared between friends, or you could eat it yourself, though it will be quite a bit of sugar. I got the dark decadence cake, which is basically a molten lava cake with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream on the side served on a wooden block. The cake is baked into a disposable cup, so you can't flip it over as it's stuck in the cup. It tasted great and extremely rich, which paired well with the lighter ice cream. The service is also friendly and willing to help you if you have questions about their desserts.
Jeremy Hawkins
This is one of those places where you just want to try everything on the menu. I think the cakes are the absolute perfect size. Everything is really approachable and unpretentious, but still has a little bit of complexity to it. And the staff is nice. One of my favorite places in Seattle.
Augustin Cheeley
The hot cakes were absolutely delicious. Extremely long line, but worth the wait of you're visiting Seattle. Very loud music, however, but it may have just been the night we visited. Serving sizes are just right for one per person. Would absolutely stop by again!
Anya Gessesse
Really yummy but we do wish the cake was a little bigger for the price
Mehmet Vurkaç
It's all so good! dairy or non-dairy! shakes, sundaes (though too small), cakes, beverages... and cool creations. The caramel-corn sundae, for example, is wonderful -- better than a sundae or caramel corn on its own.
I also appreciate the staff's willingness to make small alterations to orders.
great staff, great desserts
Kailee Carlson
Lovely atmosphere and wonderful desserts! They have a great selection of molten hot cakes, boozy shakes, warm chocolate chip cookies, and savory items like grilled cheese or Mac and cheese to choose from. They also have a small outdoor seating area. The cakes come to around $13 but it's worth it for a special treat and it comes with delicious ice cream.
Alyssa Sismaet
I love this dessert place. They have a great selection of desserts, and some savory food. I’ve had the Mac and cheese when I’m extra hungry and it’s great. My favorite dessert is the pizookie. I could eat it alone but it’s definitely big enough to share. You can’t go wrong with any of the desserts though!!
Sanjay Arichandran
Delicious and very rich cake, cool place and friendly staff!! Little expensive.
Jason Layton
Really tasty! The signature hot cakes are not large by any means but very rich. Great ambiance and place to hang out. Dissatisfied by the paper cups... for the price I'm paying I expect a little more than that... and the cake sticks to the cup so you don't get all of your already small dessert.
Josh P
Honestly, maybe my review is a bit biased considering that I'm not a fan of sweets but I don't see the hype. The actual decor& "atmosphere" is really appealing and cool, but it's expensive and doesn't even taste super good. I've had better desserts from more "low-class" spots, so if your looking for a quick dessert I'd suggest elsewhere but if your looking to chill for bit it's decent
CC Sevex
AMAZING! Dreaming of it ever since. I had the vegan cake, boyfriend had the original cake, brother had the smores cake, so got to try a bit of all the cake options. Each was delicious but I must say I enjoyed the vegan one the most. It was the richest in dark chocolate flavor. Service was great, even though it was a packed Saturday night, they kept a smile and were helpful. Absolutely worth skipping dinner for! Now I am just excited to try everything else!
Zella H
One of my favorite places to stop for late night dessert trips when I'm out with friends. There's usually a bit of a wait for a table, but it's a great way to wind down a night. I definitely recommend the lava cakes, but the milkshakes are great too, although you might want to split it with someone as they're quite filling. I've really enjoyed their seasonal desserts and bread pudding, too.
Cameron LeNguyen
The cookies were delicious and the ice cream with caramel was good as well. It is definitely pricey compared to other bakeries in the area at around $11 a dessert. It was also really hard to find free parking at night since most of the area is residential.
Corey Shih
Friendly and helpful staff, delicious and creative desserts!
Micah Schmitt
The pancakes here are amazing and the service is great here as well. I recommend trying them out when you can.
Emily Chen
Really nice dark drinking hot chocolate, atmosphere is good too.
Omar Alkhalisi
My favorite place to chill near the outdoor firepit in winter. Nice variety from sweet to savory items.
Omnifarious
This place is a specialty shop that does an excellent job with its specialty. And that specialty is making molten chocolate cakes of various varieties as well as smoky chocolate flavored malts and other delights. Eating here will give you a sugar high.
It's also quite popular in the evening, and if you like a crowd of youngish upscale people, it's a good place to be. And that, perhaps, is the most standout quality of this establishment.
The atmosphere (and the prices) cultivate this particular crowd. It's homey and faux rustic. It's fancy while somehow conveying the impression that it's also environmentally friendly. The seating arrangements have sections where it's relatively easy for people who are unacquainted to have an excuse to share a few words without giving the impression that people are there to be hit on. There's also a photo-booth in the back near the politically correct (and clean and well kept) unisex bathrooms.
And the fact that they use custom gourmet marshmallows and other such touches quite successfully conveys the impression that the food is worth the expense.
I would recommend the establishment.
Michaela Dayco
Very, very delicious. Definitely the perfect place to stop by for a night cap. The molten chocolate cake (with vanilla ice cream) I got soothed my soul. The presentation of the food was gorgeous. The concept of the cafe was gorgeous. Overall, this place is trendy and a must-go!
Molly Ivo
I started going here a little over a year ago for special occasions and could always find a spot to sit and relax (I love the vegan chocolate lava cake). In recent months, it's been PACKED and super noisy every time I've visited. It's good news for the business, but makes me want to visit less often. It's a treat worth the busy atmosphere, but I think I'd prefer a to go option to take somewhere more relaxing.
Reema Khan
The cake was more or less under done. Good flavor, just needed additional 1.30 in the oven to get it right. The ice cream was great with toffee crumble.
Jenna Foreman
The hot cookie is 10 stars. Delicious, decadent, perfection. I was personally less impressed with the hot cakes - I tried both the s’mores and the peanut butter one. I wish they came not in the cardboard server and just served on its own so you could cut into and have the lava flow out!
E D
I had never heard of a molten chocolate cakery before so had to check this place out. It did not disappoint! I only got to try the peanut cup cake which was delicious, especially the bits of peanut butter caramel. The serving is definitely enough to share since they're such rich desserts. This place is popular so seating goes fast; order for your group while a friend grabs a seat! I'd definitely come back for the s'mores cake or butterbeer the next time I'm in Seattle.
Yogesh Mathur
A fantastic place for one of its kind artisan desserts!
Angela
Ambiance is very nice. Definitely pricey dessert bar so plan to spend $$$. I feel I can order a custom cake for the money, but fun date night, they offer coffee and tea nice place to catch up then the usual coffee houses. Very congested area. So parking is very limited.
harshini sravani
Delicious and fresh hot molten cakes! In addition to the chocolate decadence cake I happened to also order creme brûlée which was not at all good, too sweet, the sugar was crystallized and didn’t taste at all like creme brûlée.
Raven Kelly Smith
Great place for decadent eats. Good to get wine and cake with a friend!
The staff is also super nice, let you taste the wine before you buy which I'm a huge fan of.
Families will also come here so the parents can drink while the kids sit.
Wooden seating. You can wine in a chilled glass. Boozy shakes.
Nicole Carbine
The peanut butter molten cake and ice cream was wonderful, and not too sweet! Really appreciated the dessert and the atmosphere after dinner at another local restaurant. But it was busy and line moved slowly (20-30 minutes).
Catherine King
Holy moly this place was fantastic. I thought it would be too rich, but the ice cream was the perfect accompaniment to the delicious cake. The line was out the door but moved relatively quickly and the food came out quick once we had ordered, especially considering it is all made to order. So very good and I cant wait to return on a future visit :)
Karyssa Mathison
Atmosphere is fun and food is great. It seems pricey but I felt it was worth it. The menu is inventive and interesting. I had the Bread Pudding and it was amazing. Not traditional but fantastic. There is limited seating but if you don't live too far, To-Go is an option.
Whitney Kobey
A yummy treat to share with a friend or partner! I haven't had anything sub-par here. Try the classic chocolate decadence; I keep trying new things but always return to it. Also, their adult milkshakes are the best in town!
This place gets crowded in the evening, so go mid-day for a quieter setting.
Hi Ny
Reader alert review based partly on the fact I have a fatal peanut allergy.... had heard about the molton lava cakes...so figured we'd head out in the rain...but when I saw the menu there is a lot of stuff with nuts...and the person at the counter said they couldn't guarantee that something I ordered did not come into contact with nuts... I respect that. Had the soft serve ice cream...the vegan version I was told was made with cashew milk.... all in all it was okay....just very very sweet....
cynthia jordon
Fabulous customer service and food! Well worth going. Has a small but lovely outdoor area, perfect for summer nights. Absolutely wonderful molten lava cakes, cookies and innovative shakes (with alcohol if you want). Outdoor fire pit. Cookies too! All organic! Open until 11pm. Parking since it's on Capitol hill is a challenge. It's a really popular place so be prepared for a line.
Betty H
The lava cake was sweet but not sickly sweet and the vanilla ice cream paired perfectly with it. I would definitely recommend a visit. Parking spots are nonexistent in Seattle but luckily we found a lot only a block away for $3/hr.
Grace Walker
Super tasty and soft and gooey cakes with delicious ice cream. Perfect portions and great pairings between cake and ice cream flavors! Irish coffee was also very good and they sell milk glasses (a bit expensive for milk but a great idea) to enjoy with your dessert. Definitely go here.
Sean Aryana
Hot Cakes is pretty great. They can be dense if you haven't had them before, not a bad idea to split one between two even though they look very small, also make sure you have some water. Last time we were there they had Frankie & Jo's which is pretty great. It can get quite busy with tables hard to get for bigger groups. The staff was super helpful when we were confused what to order. The smoked chocolate was not quite what we were expecting so good to try it out first.
Hitesh Rathod
I loved the vibe of this restaurant and the best part is that it is open until 11. One surprising thing about Seattle is that a lot of restaurants close very early, especially the dessert ones. Therefore, finding one that stays open later than 9:30 and brings a unique take on dessert is great! I loved it.
Jakub Kaplan
The cake tastes nice, but at $11 for very small cake it's too pricey
t1ff C
You can find many times without a line here, which is more than you would at the Ballard location. This location also is bigger and better ventilated. Comparisons aside, I mean, their molten chocolate cakes are delectable if not a little pricey. They have boogey shakes. They have great cookies. And they have vegan shakes!!
Davis Feraday
The stores need work. There is a heavy burnt chemical taste that really shouldn't be there.
They've done away with the burnt flavor now, and their service is excellent. The outdoor seating doesn't get enough use from customers, grabbing a seat next to their fire pit and curling up with a good book is wonderful!
Devon Chadderton
Friendly staff and my husband was excited about the dairy free ice cream. But $37 for 3 desserts is excessive and they weren't unbelievably delicious. The smoked chocolate was very weird. Hipster vibe if you're into that.
AmyGrace Maynard
My dessert was served on a board, so you know it must be good.
Really though, it was amazing. Went with friends, thus we tried several things and they were all mouthgasm-enducing. 10/10 would recommend.
And the employees were also super friendly!
Nitin Chopra
Our new favorite place to go to for Dessert. Have not been able to grab a seat outside by the fireplace yet - that is the coveted spot. Wait can be a bit excruciating at times, when you are craving molten cakes with ice cream. Nonetheless, it is a delight. I just wished they opened up somewhere closer to Bothell :)
Karl Taht
This place is good but not great. I still think a lot of people will like it because the nature of it (a dessert shop is unique), but I felt the flavors could have been elevated more. The shop itself as a date and fun is fantastic, great location and decorating.
Matt Lagueux
I was told they charge $10 for a cake and thought it was nuts.....then I actually went there. Nearly EVERYTHING they use is locally sourced (except for one type if chocolate), and they proudly display what it is and where it came from. Each is made from scratch, fresh, and served with a scoop of high quality (and very necessary, to cut the intense richness of the cakes) ice cream. After eating one myself I realized I could easily have split it with someone and been just as happy....but it was worth every penny. Great spot!
Liesl Jaeger
As a huge chocolate fan, this place is dangerous. I could just keep eating here. The individual molten chocolate cakes are really good, but pricey. Definitely worth coming here for the experience! You can also buy their batter and bake it at home.
Tiffany Chou
5 stars for the cake, 3 stars for the price + size of the cake. The vegan molten chocolate lava cake was absolutely delicious. It is seriously worth it trying out. However, it's expensive for what you get -- $8 for a tiny cake. I split it with a friend and it was alright because we had just had a large dinner and it was quite rich but the cake is seriously tiny. I'd definitely come back but not very often.
Rob Gerlach
More exciting in concept than in execution. We had problems with our order not showing up complete on the kitchen ticket system. The two desserts were brought out almost twenty minutes apart, and only after we repeatedly (and politely) prodded a table runner. One of us completely finished before the other was able to begin eating. No attempt by the kitchen to make amends for the error. Not awesome.
The cakes had great flavor and engaging presentation but were both over-baked, which meant that the only "molten" parts were the sauce fillings in the center. Anyone who's attempted to bake molten cakes like this knows that they go from rich/gooey/luxurious to dry/crumbly/chalky after just seconds too long in the oven.
This error was inadvertently emphasized further by the dry, unlined paper baking cup in which the cake was presented as well as the odd choice of serving ice cream directly on a wooden board. Again -- interesting in concept but rather detracting from the actual experience.
It seems like there are multiple kinks in the kitchen workflow here and some minor kinks in the concept. I hope they work those kinks out. They're pretty close to a great, unique dessert experience.
Gurleen B
Hot cakes is a MUST VISIT when in Seattle because it is amazing! The molten decadent chocolate cakes are rich warm ooey gooey everything delicious. I love how their signature molten chocolate cake is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I love the combination of the two and in fact, love when the ice cream slightly starts to melt. The only downside of the place is the price. It is quite expensive! 10 USD for a little molten cake and a small scoop of ice cream is very steep. I do recommend getting a glass of ice cold milk as it will balance the rich chocolate cake. Hope to get more in the future!
Jon Welsh
I have loved this place for a while now and make trips to Seattle from Portland to grab a sweet from here. They have gotten rid of drinking caramel and this is a huge disappointment. This one item kept me coming in. I don't know if I will return now, knowing that my favorite item is missing. Pastries are usually pretty good.
Arun Kumar
Tried three of the desserts from menu...2 chocolate cakes and 1cookie with ice cream. Nice presentation and tastes bit special compared to other places but quantities are very small and felt way overpriced.
j spain Greene
Built on the site of the iconic B&O Espresso, it was strange to be in Molten Cakes. The opposite of B&O in many respects, it's modern & streamlined in here; Both the decor and menu have a more current vibe.
High ceilings, very white walls with concrete and quite stark...a giant chalkboard menu displays options.
The menu has a good selection of drinks, desserts and some savouries. The desserts we sampled had a deconsructed quality to them. My Apple Cobbler contained very geometric cubes of apple with ginger with a pastry lid, the ice cream served in a separate dish on the side. The Bread Pudding was less successful...the bread part represented by a mixture that had a sand-like consistency.
I'll visit again but I miss the decadent desserts and old Euro feel of B&O.
Madeline Gutierrez (Maddy)
Loved that they had vegan options!!! Was visiting Seattle with family and we came here on our last night in town. Staff was very polite. The cashew milk was really fricken good however I felt it could have been strained better as to not be so grainy.
Christopher Kean
Great place. Nice staff and delicious food and desserts
Viren Aggarwal
A very popular place on Capitol Hill - Seattle, especially amongst young people. They claim to use local and many organic products. Variety of desserts that are ‘to die for’ - literally! So much sugar that it is definitely a killer. But, hey, it’s worth trying and most likely you will love it. The coffee on the other hand is not even worth in the sink, putrid!
Jenn Dill
I seriously love chocolate and this is the best place to be, when you are craving for it. The dark decadence hot cake with the ice cream is incredible! Unfortunately it is a bit expensive, but it sooo delicious and the taste so intense, that it is also possible to share one cake with two or three people.
Tywin Cary
I can only speak to the hot chocolate at this location. The hot chocolate was amazing and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a special treat. The key is "special". The chocolate tasted great but it was very expensive for a small cup. I would recommend this place but I just have trouble justifying the cost for a daily basis. The location felt very cozy but it was quite loud.
R D
Definitely lived up to the hype. We got the seasonal special - matcha molten lava cake. It cake was rich and gooey with generous flow of molten chocolate inside. The vanilla ice cream was topped with a matcha shell which was the just the right amount of matcha kick the vanilla needed. Although I didn't try anything else on the menu, but it was quite impressive to see the wide array of beverage options and cocktails the place serves along with specializing in molten cakes.
I recommend trying this place if you haven't yet.
C S
Great desserts, boozy milkshakes, and sweets of all kinds. If you need a quick bite, stop in and grab a cookie, scrumptious s'mores bar, or other baked good. If you have time, I highly suggest sitting down to enjoy a freshly made dessert and a sweet drink. Great place for friends and family, and a wonderful crowd late at night!
Ashley Gould
I had high hopes for this place (chocolate cake? yes!), but left overall disappointed. The classic dark chocolate hotcake was small (a cup or less total) and not particularly special, as was the milkshake. Overall, the portions were small but pricy.
We also sampled the smoked chocolate chips, which I really did not care for (like biting into liquid smoke).
Felicia
This place is amazing! Everything on the menu is good, but my favorites are the dark drinking chocolate, creme brulee, and dark decadence cake. The dark drinking chocolate is one of my favorite things ever. You have to taste to understand.
Quinn Akers
Mannnn when my husband and I want to treat ourselves to some quality cake and icecream... this is our go to spot!
The portions sizes seem a bit small for the price, but the quality makes up for it all!
Sireesha Aginine
They have great options for cakes and drinks. Love the chocolate lava cake with ice cream.
Adedayo Samuel
The dark chocolate cake & ice cream is divine.
Bharat Vijayaraghavan
I was in the area waiting for a table in another restaurant and a friend suggested we give hot cakes a try. It's a nice upscale cafe/dessert places with really good chocolate leave cakes. They have a good variety of other desserts and shakes too. They also have ready to bake cakes which you can take home.
Madi Calvert
The cookie lava cake is what dreams are made of (every lava cake I've had here is amazing)
Chris Hale
We came here after a night of drinking and dinner. The place was PACKED. I don't know if it is usually this busy, but prepared to wait and fight for a table. The portions are small for what you pay, but the cake is delicious and VERY DECADANT. Seriously, it was great but if you can't handle super sweet desserts this may not be your jam.
Ella Mosiychuk
Ah this is a tough one!!
The chocolate lava cakes are AMAZING. Even worth the ridiculous price..
The coffee... was not my fav.. haha sorry guys!
BUT
The girl was so nice! She asked if everything was good and I told her the coffee tasted bad, but that it was fine. She said she can remake or something. I said no point since my husbands coffee was just as bad. I was just going to deal with it since cake was so goooood. But she brought me a check with a refund! Appreciate that!!!!!
So 4 stars for me.
Janee McNeil
I grabbed a couple of cakes to go for me and my sis and they were DELICIOUS. They have some frozen cakes that you can take home and pop in the oven for a homemade treat too. They've got a lot of great menu options. Excited to go back and try more.
Akshat Mane
It's a great place for dessert! Have tried so many things and everything has been delicious... Seasonal special was Poached Pear with Pistachio cake and juniper infused chocolate! And as pretentious it sounds, it is equally delicious...
Emma Larkins
An experience worth having! The molten cakes, along with the milkshakes, are interesting, delicious, and complex. There's sometimes a bit of a wait, but the cafeteria-style ordering and seat-your-self make things move quickly. Sharing is highly suggested!
Tony Cortez
Great if the place is empty. If it is packed I'd skip. Pretty expensive and average flavors. Great decor though.
Nate T
Never paid so much for so little. Tasted great.
Mari
Best dessert place in Seattle area. It is a casual dessert place but they also make really great coffee (sometimes better than anchorhead). If you want to share with your friend, then just order one cake dessert and add extra ice cream for just $2.
Megan
Hot Cakes serves molten cakes and ice cream along with a variety of different cocktails and wine. My one complaint is it's pricy for what you get. The happy hour specials are a good time to go 5-7.
Georgina Sanchez
Absolutely love both Hot Cakes locations! Fresh Minimal ingredient Chocolate Molten Cakes with Vegan options! Love their Boozy milkshakes! Everytime we have visitors we take them to Hot Cakes. This Capitol Hill location has more seating than Ballard but quality is the same.
Michelle Ling
Yummy warm molten chocolate cakes, and boozy drinks. Still open during COVID-19 and has seating to eat the dessert after ordering. Extremely friendly staff ☺️
Joel Pearsall
Wow!!! Our group of 4 tried 4 different molten cakes - all were delicious!!
Kijia Wachowicz
not something that can be covered just with a couple of photographs that's not what you could use to give credit to this wonderful new place. Hot cakes has a list of the local farmers that contribute to their entire menu, if it's local then they're buying it! and really the question is is it good?! it's excellent of onion gruyere sandwich... grilled cheese perfection.
Varun Patel
The lava cake was to die for. I loved it so much. Def a must if you go there.
Nav Grewal
Brioche & Apple bread pudding is DELICIOUS ♥️
Megan Frazier
Ah hot cakes is an institution of goodness. So, they do go a bit "unconventional" with their flavors sometimes so my best advice is to get something risky and something that's like pure chocolatey goodness. That way if the unconventional seasonal choice isn't that great, you'll always have chocolate.
Sitara M
One of the nice dessert joints in Seattle, that's open until late at night. The ambience is nice and casual.
Finding parking near by, is a nightmare though! Especially during the weekend. There is a lot next to the Starbucks near by, but otherwise, street parking gets full pretty quick.
I've been here a couple of times and tried a bunch of different things. The dark decadence dark chocolate molten cake was pretty good. The s'mores molten cake is similar with the additional marshmallow and graham cracker. The chocolate milkshake was super thick and chocolaty; almost like thick ice cream. The Creme brûlée was good! The grilled chocolate toast with potato bread wasn't that great.
Their savory grilled cheese toasts are pretty nice! With all that sugar, it's nice to mix it up a bit. Tried The Dijon mustard and onion cheese toast, which was really good.
They also have cakes in a jar, which you can take home and cook in the oven/ microwave. Haven't tried that though.
There's a little photo booth which doesn't serve a lot of purpose; barely fits 3 people and there's no screen to see what the picture is going to look like. To top that, you gotta pay for it and the quality of the picture is really poor. Not worth it! Spare yourself the trouble and take a selfie!
Saad Badoghaish
Best molten cakes I've ever taste! Highly recommend it.
tejaswini vanama
I had brownie molten cake and it was really great. Perfect sweetness level for someone who likes dark chocolate 🍫. Loved the place. …
Kristine Chan
Cake was barely cooked :/ would have liked actual cake with the rest of the "molten" part. Citrus crumb was good. Hot chocolate was nothing special, tastes a lot like Hershey-syrup based hot chocolate (although likely made with their house chocolate syrup). A bit disappointed in the experience.
Zolaire
Very tasty desserts, but excessively rich in terms of density and flavor combinations. Barring any of your own personal preferences regarding shared food/drinks, I would strongly recommend sharing a dessert here with a friend or date you bring along.
James Gholston
A great spot for sweet vegan treats with amazing intimate nooks. That's perfect for some one on one time.
Bridget Engdahl
It's pretty good, but a little rich. Portion size is really weird. Why? Because it's so tiny, you hardly get enough and pay 12$ for a half scoop of ice cream and a cake that has more of a brownie texture. I also had a hard time getting past eating my icream off of a wooden board. Wood has pores in it so im not so sure how clean that thing really is. FORGET ABOUT FINDING PARKING!! My God what a nightmare this place is if you're driving. And at all hours of the day and night. Honestly it's not worth driving around looking for a spot. But if you're walking by all means. The gal at the register seemed annoyed but kept that "retail smile" on. The s'mores cookie was really gross. I really didn't like it. I think it was the smoked chocolate chips, they must use liquid smoke or something cause it was a lot! I also hated that you have to clean and bus you're own spot. It's tough in such a cramped spot, squeezing between tables. I mean I wouldn't mind so much if the people there before you actually did that, but this business runs off the honor system on that and let's be real, it's Capital Hill. I really do appreciate how late it's open though.
Brandon Surmanski
delicious cakes and desserts. They have a few unique flourishes too, for example, I got the Smores Molten Cake and they used 'smoked chocolate chips'. For that case the worker explained that they need to carefully cold-smoke the chocolate chips over many hours to get the desired aroma.
Rhonda Webb
My boyfriend and I are in town for Spring Break and wanted dessert; drove across town to try your lava cakes. They were good despite my boyfriend's Dark Decadence being underbaked; yes, we know it's lava cake (LOL) but the cake part was undercooked. We didn't complain because he still loved the taste. I had the Peanut Butter lava cake; it was good. I loved the chunks of peanut butter fudge served with the ice cream--that was probably my favorite part.
Anna Van Brookhoven
The molten cakes are great- fresh made and high quality. The ice cream is also very good. I'm not giving this 5 stars because this place suffers from hype and trend stupidity. There are a few foods here that are just stupidly bad, like the smoked chocolate magic shell. (It tastes like you're eating a waxy campfire. Gross.) Stay with the proven winners like the cake/cake ice cream combos.
ronak sanghvi
Go to dessert place in Seattle, hands down!! From customer service to trying out different seasonal dessert items, can’t get enough of this place!! Try the bread rhubarb pudding(seasonal) the next time you go here, one of the best I have ever had till date!
Taylor Davis
Wow! Super rich decadent deserts. I don't even know how they got that milk shake so thick! Smores plate was beautiful and tasted great. Worth a stop if you have a sweet tooth.
Katie Hallock
It was around 8:30p on a Sunday night and all the tables were full! But we placed our order and one table opened up just for us!! Just a few minutes later our hot cakes came out. We'd opted for one PB and one S'more. The PB was definitely my favorite of the two. I wasn't crazy about the S'more because it uses the smoked chocolate. Smoked chocolate sounded like a cool idea, but it just didn't work for me personally. It became an overwhelming flavor in the dish, especially compared to the small amount of marshmallow that was happening.
But I loved the PB! The cake itself was barely there, simply a light and fluffy shell to hold the warm, ooey, gooey, deliciousness. I was happy to see that the molten inside wasn't just PB, it was PB and dark chocolate. You also get a generous sized scoop of vanilla ice cream. Underneath which is hot fudge and chunks of a dense, chewy PB cookie!
This place was definitely delicious and worth the visit! I would love to return for more PB goodness and maybe to try a completely different treat as well!
Amos Yuen
Nice open spot with vaulted ceilings. There are several tables, but not a huge amount of seating.
GREAT
* Warm Chocolate Chip Cookie - A warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. Gooey and delicious, but you need to eat it quickly before the cookie gets cold or the ice cream melts.
* Creme Brulee - It comes with pomegranate seeds on top. The sugar on top has been crystallized well and the slight crunch of the seeds complement the custard well.
GOOD
* Dark Decadence Molten Chocolate Cake - Very rich and thick chocolate. Not super sweet, but not bitter.
* Peanut Butter Molten Chocolate Cake - Very rich chocolate with very rich peanut butter.
MEH
* S'mores Molten Chocolate Cake - They use a smoked chocolate in the cake which tastes very smokey. The marshmallow part is also pretty smokey. Not a fan. Left a gritty smokey taste in my mouth.
Michael Powell
Really enjoyed the quick trip to Capitol Hill for Molten Chocolate Cakes. Got a hot S’mores Cake to eat and got a take and bake for home. Ordered online and got an email and text message when order was ready to pick up. Plenty of space in the store, well marked to keep distance, and separate entrance and exit. Beautiful store & delicious cake! YUM!
Kristen L
Delicious and well worth an adventure.
Aila Enos
Tried their famous molten cakes. I had the peanut butter and a friend had the traditional chocolate decadence. Both were rich, although hers was more so. While they are personal-sized, I think I could have split simply due to the richness. Comes with ice cream on the side, which helps.
Liz Juhnke
Just the best treats! So much fun on a late night outing with friends! I recommend splitting the hot cake. It's small but rich! The photo booth is kind of broken so there is a chance your pix won't turn out. And there is no warning on the first pic. Use at your own risk.
Eric von Sivers
The Hot Cakes were good but not amazing - the cappuccino on the other-hand was LEGENDARY! It was the best cappuccino I have ever had. The foam was frothed perfectly. It was rich and velvety on the tongue.
Mackenzie “Maq” W
Let's get this out of the way: I hate chocolate. So thus, you might think that a place called a "molten chocolate cakery" is not meant for me. And sure, 75% of the menu isn't totally designed for me, but 25% of the menu is and it's delicious.
If you, too, don't much prefer chocolate in the grand scheme of things, I heartily recommend either the creme brulee or the sheep-cheesecake.
Chloe Lewis
the butterbeer is so good!
don't be fooled by the cake sizes (like I was) they're very rich and easily split with another person.
visually nice space, but quite loud in there
Mahendri Ramesh
It was a fine place for dessert. 4 stars because I felt the cake was a little undercooked and too sweet. But then again that's how I felt. A person with a sweet tooth might say otherwise. :) Overall a good place.
Keren F.
ample seating and delicious hot cakes! I ordered the hazelnut hot cake and I really enjoyed it.
Eric Bacon
For what was expected and what was delivered, a tad over priced. 15$ for a boozy milkshake that tastes off. I thought the lava cake would be larger, and the hipster plates they use for service are beginning to crack from the dishwasher.
Go once, check it off your list.
Tyler Menezes
Great cakes, although a little overpriced (especially considering you have to pick up your own drinks and bus your own table). Initially, the employees would mess something up and be rude about it almost every time I'd go, but it's gotten much better after the initial few months. There's usually a long line.
Brent Romeo
Pretty good. A little expensive and parking is impossible. I wouldn't mind walking but Capital Hill is a very dangerous neighborhood
JP Gutierrez
I'm not ashamed to admit i stop in a couple times a week for the lemon sugar cookies and chocolate almond rocha (which is my heaven) . Today they were out of rocha but i tried the coconut caramel bar.....NEW HEAVEN!!! Everything is amazing and made with organic ingredients. There service is always great. The hot cakes team kicks ass!!
Nawaal Akhwand
the line and wait is long but its so worth it. all desserts are tasty and the atmosphere is super fun, although not conducive for much conversation. would definitely recommend for after dinner dessert.
Sean Vernon
So great! I thought it was the perfect portion for 2 people. Anything more would be too much. 5 stars, great and rich. Try the peanut butter one.
Shivam Bansal
Tasty hotcakes and a great ambience!
A B
Great place. During COVID opening changed prices and charging extra for so much more. Won't be coming here as often as I used to due to the price flux. Way too pricey for just desserts. Also charge extra to pack something to go? Wow. That's insane.
Christopher Schulz
Had the vegan carmel milkshake here tonight for my birthday! It was the best shake I've ever had in my life. Very delicious and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
Patrick Fay
Very "Stepford Wives" feel to it. But the product isn't bad. Service is congenial as well.
No this review is to their execution of their signature dish. A molten chocolate souffle or cake. Part of what makes those things popular (so much so that most chefs of note don't do them around Seattle because they are passe) is that amazing bit of light crustiness on the edge of the souffle. But Hot Cakes uses some type of compostable ramekin. That crust adheres to the sides and bottom of said ramekin. It like... sinks in a bit? At any rate, if you're a true aficionado of chocolate souffle, you'll be frustrated that part of the enjoyment has been denied to you.
All in all, it feels like the pet project of an idle rich housewife. We were predisposed to like it (Chocoholics), but it is at odds with what I feel is important about chocolate souffles and, more importantly, Seattle's culinary and cultural legend.
Ashley White
Sooooo good!!!! I had the s'more molten cake which I loved! I also had the grilled cheese and it was the best I have ever had. I loved the decor and the vibe and the employees were very friendly. The parking isn't the best so plan on searching for a bit. Highly recommend this place.
Yamini Kancharana
Love love love. Dark decadence is an evil addiction!
Augusto Matias
This place is insane. It's huge! Much bigger then their other location. Surprisingly similar waits though. Excellent desserts. Smoked chocolate chips are well, smokey. Well deserved hype. Liked everything we got especially the smores stuff.
Sabrina Topacio
Delicious. Hella long line though. Worf
Adrienne L
Beautiful cafe and great atmosphere. Food is ok.
Hava F
Insanely delicious and rich lava cakes. If you LOVE chocolate, come here!
Paul Kutrich
If you like chocolate things, go to here. I got the "basic" cake and a drinking caramel. Both extremely rich and delicious. Cakes are made to order so give em ten minutes or so, it's worth the wait.
Jay P
The Gaya Vanilla pudding,,,, OMG..... I could eat it for life. Update:won't be going back as we ended up with rude service. If your company charges these types of prices, then you better be as charming as smeg. Tried several items which aren't really that good. The only good thing was the vanilla pudding. But won't be back.
Margueite Long
Very fun place for dessert.
saranya sampat
Best rhubarb pudding I have every tried. Lovely molten lava cake. One of my friends ordered the smoked molten lava cake, sorry to say it was like eating smoked meat :( not door me.
Claudia López
I came following the recommendation of a friend. I ordered a milkchocolate cake (Milkchocolate cake, housemade nutella filling, vanilla ice cream, nutella magic shell, citrus breadcrum). It was very nice but a little pricey for what it was (10$+tax/tip). They also have vegan options for cake and I believe they also have nondairy options.
Kailash Mandal
Hot chocolate cake, milkshake, coffee, chocolate cocktails and light food with casual but cozy ambience. Nice place to call out your day satisfying your taste buds. Be aware of crowd mostly in the evening but hey, it's worth waiting in the line.
Taha Qaraqe
Average experience! Expected more special service and menu diversity.
John Kim
Handmade, organic ingredients, rich chocolate cake, cookies, espresso, friendly staff in Seattle's "Village" neighborhood, Capitol Hill. Nice place but can't compare to the charm & character of the old B & O Cafe 😢 …
Marketta Mcdill
Totally love this place. They have an amazing selection of desserts and the service is always awesome here. If you haven't been here before, you should check it out today.
nancy gupta
Had an awesome molten cake but stick to molten cakes only…
Lisa Huang-North
Small portions for a hefty $10 order - though the chocolate cake are decadent with melted dark chocolate center. Each serving comes with a scoop of ice cream - you won't want to share it with anyone!
Sol Cruz
The atmosphere in this restaurant is very nice, it'd be a nice place for a date! The molten lava cakes are absolutely delicious, but it's kind of expensive when you consider the amount of food you're getting for the cost.
Theresa Lanz
Better than I ever would have thought! Butter beer and Hazelnut treats were delectable!
Ruby
Best dessert I've ever had. My boyfriend and I loved the gooey brownie and smores cookies. Highly recommend!
ms325218
Delicious I got s'mores cookie. the casher warned me it was very smokey but once you get over the surprise it was amazing.
Mouni Reddy
Share the hot cake as it'll give you a sugar rush if you eat it all. I've tried, multiple times, and failed to eat it all. It's very rich and sugary, but that's why you're here. go ahead and indulge...
Malia Villani
this place is awesome. great food, desserts, and drinks! cool place to go as a 21 year old with friends who can't go to bars yet. be prepared to wait becauee the line is always out the door which is a good sign but it can get chilly 😬 …
Patrick Aupperle
I love the cakes here. The flavor is intense and delicious. The first time I went, though, the cake was still cold in the middle, so they lose a star.
Bryce Pielage
A really pleasant cafe, with a fire pit outside. The cakes are served on a wooden board with the ice cream, which is is nice and unique touch.
Ricardo Diaz
I don't eat allot of sugar but I did try my girlfriend Dark Decadence and it was good. Really enjoyed the ice cream it came with also and my adult beverage.
Lee Hung Nguyen
Decent high quality dessert place for ice cream and cake. Expensive but worth it. Very rich though, so I only suggest going there if your super craving sweets.

Super hip and cool dining idea. I'm not a chocolate fan, so I won't return. They've got something for everyone! Vegan choices as well.

Excellent and we got the ghost seasonal one!

Decadent cocoa liquid and solid treats. Very relaxed atmosphere. In the winter time you'll need to disrob once in there because it is REALLY warm when you walk in. You'll began to sweat profusely if you don't.

Well the line is REALLY slow but once you get to your order it's overpriced. I know we are in Seattle but it's silly that a creme brûlée is $10! Also the bathrooms you can see through the window even though it's wavy you can still watch the person use the bathroom. I only went because I had a coupon and thought I would check it out.

Final something vegan in the bakery in downtown Seattle.

Rich, decadent, dangerous. Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended.

The vegan ice cream is a perfect compliment to the dark decadence lava cake!. Aldi the Rhubarb Sundae is creamy and delicious. Get both. Bring a friend!
