The portions are a good size. The flavors are good. The service from those taking/fulfilling orders is good. I think there are things that should be looked at to improve, though. The lines, when long, go into the parking lot and right into/in-between people's parking spaces. When we were last there we were between cars when one of the cars left and another pulled in. An attempt was made to mitigate the safety by calling for people to enter the store (where they have 1 register - the rest are windows outside) but this did not decrease the lines by much and blocking off those spaces would be the safer option (enough people already park across the street that losing a couple more parking spaces to make things safer wouldn't make much of an impact on business). The other thing I would suggest would be a queue line. It's currently set up that each window has it's own line and the lines of course move at different paces. A single line leading to the next available window might work better, especially if the previous suggestion is adopted.

Excellent ice cream. Many choices of ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt. There are benches to sit at and a town park directly across the street to take a walk or picnic at.

This was our first time here and couldn't believe all the flavor choices. I ordered chocolate peanut butter cup yogurt cookie sandwich and was given chocolate peanut butter chip ice cream. It was melted and didn't stay inside the cookies. If the lines were not so long I would have said something to the girl about messing up the order. Other than that the ice cream is good!

Went for the first time on a Saturday evening. Long wait, about 30 min, parking lot jam packed. Ice cream was good but I couldn't eat it all. We got peanut butter with oreo and birthday bash, cones on top. I wanted a PB milk shake but those aren't on the menu. Don't bring a large vehicle/dually if you want to easily park and not almost get backed into several times. Had to assist multiple people backing up to leave.🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

If you want to taste fresh ice cream like straight out of the factory then you have come to the right place. They make and sell their own ice cream here not like some other fake ice cream joint that buy from other local companies. Don't get tempted to try every flavor. Their ice cream are actually not healthy due to it's high fat content. It will kill you in the long run so consume in moderation. Or hit the gym right away to burn it off.

This place is awesome!!! Long wait but definitely worth it. Over 80 flavors including seasonal choices. The chocolate dipped jumbo waffle cone with key lime pie and coconut chocolate almond ice cream were to die for. This ice cream shop is one of the best!

This is a fun spot in Diamond Hill State Park. Theres plenty of parking and the servings are BIG! I come here with my dog at least once a week. I usually get a small waffle cone and my puppy gets a " Puppy paws scoop" we love it.l!

Lots of flavors to choose from (and believe me, I’ve tried LOTS of them). Portions are a good size and the order takers are very friendly. I’ve been to lots of ice cream shops, but this is the only one around that makes my favorite - ginger!

We discovered the Ice Cream Machine when we lived here years ago. I love coming back to visit the area and enjoying ice cream year round. It rivals the ice cream we get fresh on the farm in Amish country in Lancaster Co. It's so popular they now have an inside counter for ordering with fudge too. Oh so yummy. We discovered that the small was too large for each of us. We should have all ordered kiddie sizes.

I love to get ice cream here! ICM always has quality ice cream and friendly employees. Whenever I want to get ice cream this is one of first choices. The portions they give out are always very generous and I almost always have leftovers, even when I get a kiddie!! I love the fact that there are always plenty of options for both ice cream and toppings. Although the waits can be long the ice cream is well worth it! If I could give this place more than five stars I would!

Obsessed with this place!! They have so many flavors that I want to try and a good selection of toppings, cones, and other desserts. I've driven out of my way 30 mins to come here and even though it's always packed, the wait is never too long! Even if it was, I'd still be happy to wait!

So good. I got a waffle bowl sundae with coconut chocolate almond and s'mores. It was so good. My husband has the pistachio ice cream and loved it. The scoops are huge! the girl taking care of our order was so kind. Highly recommend!

This a great spot to get ice cream. They have a large selection of flavors! I've brought my autistic sister here a few times now, and each time we come, we see if we can try a different flavor! :) The only complaint I have is their parking is a bit tight, but if you come on a quiet day, then you shouldn't have a problem. It is nice that they are open year round.

Best ice cream in RI. I've been coming here in the summer on and off for nearly 30 years. As a kid I remember being super excited that they had real, full sized chocolate chips instead of cheap shaved chocolate in their ice cream. They still do, and the toppings and mixed in candy are always great quality. It gets a little crowded in the summer and there tend to be a lot of mosquitoes, but it is still worth the 20 minute drive from my house. That is saying a lot in a state so small.

An unassuming little shop tucked away on Route 114 next to Diamond Hill State Park, the Ice Cream Machine produces predictable favorites (Butter Crunch, Cookie Dough, Caramel Fudge) and wild flavors (Purple Cow, Birthday Cake, Green Tea) with a dynamite texture since 1977. The Salted Caramel Pretzel Sundae is phenomenal!!! The lines are long and I think we had a newer worker because people who came after us and were in different lines were out before us. That being said she was super sweet and the ice cream is worth the wait!!

My all time favorite ice cream shop. They have a super wide variety of flavors, all of which are homemade. Their servings are also HUGE. A medium is as big as my face. A couple years ago they added on a candy shop that sells fudge and it’s just as delicious as the ice cream. I believe they started accepting credit/debit cards around that time. They’ve made it a lot easier to go there on a whim if you’re like me and don’t usually carry cash. I really think everyone in the area should try The Ice Cream Machine if they haven’t already. Take a peek in the candy shop too if you can. Edit: Their pumpkin ice cream is the absolute best. A lot of places do pumpkin spice and call it pumpkin but theirs is actually pumpkin. They also have amazing ginger ice cream. ❤️

ICM is like no other. Not only is their ice cream far above all other ice creams in the region, their service goes above and beyond. The staff is warm and friendly, and makes you feel like family. Everything here is homemade and fresh. I know I’m getting the best ingredients and flavors. The ICM staff is one that never stops smiling. I can’t wait for the hot weather to bring in plenty of excuses to get ice cream from Ice Cream Machine. Come here, you will not be disappointed! My family loves this place. The ice cream is homemade, and they have a lot of flavors. They also offer sorbet, sherbet, frozen yogurt, sundaes, cookie sandwiches, and more. They have a small store with other food, etc. They even have ice cream cups just for dogs! Ever wonder why there are always people there? Because they are one of the best ice cream shops around!

I stayed in Cumberland for 2 years and going to this place on a summer evening was one of my most fav thing to do. It’s not so much about ice cream but the experience! Love watching people come with their families here and enjoying a good scoop of ice cream. Too bad summer lasts only a few months in RI 😥 but I hope some day I would bring my whole family here and we’d sit outdoor and enjoy some ice cream :)

This is a town favorite! I've been visiting The Ice Cream Machine since I was a kid and it's still a great place to visit. Parking in the actual lot can be tricky during peak hours, but luckily it sits directly across from Diamond Hill Park, so you can park across the street and walk over. Go try their homemade ice cream and enjoy some time at the park.

I love their ice cream most if not all come with special treats in them. For example my favorite flavor coconut has real flakes. My sons favorite bubble gum has real gum pieces throughout it and generous portions are served. I get the kiddie size which is two LARGE scoops! They have so many flavors and different items like smoothies and shakes too! They also have a candy shop where they sell candy and fudge. Just great tasting treats!

One thing to note... this is pretty much in the middle of nowhere... they have no public restrooms. We had a 3 year old desperate for a bathroom and nowhere to go.

Standing in the line we were able to decide what flavors of ice cream. The line moved rather quickly for such a warm day. Was not able to take a photo of the selection as once I started eating, I could not stop. Well worth the visit and the time in the line, if you have interest in homemade ice cream.

Amazing homemade ice cream. Prices are fair for the portions. (I'm a good eater and a small cone is enough for me - though I tend to get a kiddie since I usually have to finish my daughters' too!). In fact, you'll pay more at places that aren't even homemade. I only give four stars since, while most flavors are great (pumpkin and ginger are my favorite), some fall short (s'mores, for example).

I have been coming to this gem as long as I can remember, and so as not to date myself, I've been coming here for 30 years now!! The ice cream is phenomenal; I've never gotten a flavour I didn't love! The portions are incredibly generous, and the menu is huge! The Blondie sundae is a personal favorite of mine, but on really hot summer days, the orange sherbet may be simple, but it's refreshing and full of natural orange flavor!! I couldn't recommend the Ice Cream Machine any more highly than I already do!! Enjoy!!!

I had the Key Lime pie sundae on the special board, it was great. It had pineapple sauce, graham cracker crust, coconut, Key Lime ice cream. My wife had chocolate sundae lots of hot fudge and whipped cream. My son had the cotton candy shake, he said it was great, it was nice and thick. Overall, we loved everything we ordered, we will be going back.

Ice cream was awesome, only issue was home made waffle cones weren't made right. The bottom of the 3 we had were really open at the bottom. Ice cream dripping everywhere lol. But I'll try it again and see if that happens again. If it does I just won't get the home made waffle cone.

Awesome ice cream. A lot of flavors to choose from. Great renovation in the last 4 months. Take a look inside at their fudge and home made pies and cakes. You can purchase different candy by the bag full. The outside is nice. Plenty of picknic tables to sit on. Parking is a little tight during busy season but we'll worth the wait.

I hadn’t been here in a long time, and frankly I had forgotten about it, until one of the people my wife works with mentioned it, and since we were up in the area, we decided to try it. It was good, not the best, but definitely very good. Probably in the top 10 ice cream that I’ve had, and I’ve had a lot of ice cream. It’s the typical walk up to the window and order your poison, kind of place. They did have s room full of candy, which I did not bother to go in, as my mission on. Y last visit was purely for ice cream, but I may have to go back to check it out. The shake that I got was good, although they did not blend the banana enough, and it all sunk to the bottom, and clogged up the straw. I cannot fault them for that, as it is a common occurrence. My wife is not the biggest fan of ice cream, but she did finish the few scoops she got, so it has to be pretty good.

The flavors are unbelievable and each visit is always a pleasure. The staff is polite and very generous with the ice cream. They make wonderful Sundays and the ice cream cakes are delicious. They have a small candy store now and you can use a credit card! You're better off parking across the street in Diamond Hill Park!

Been coming here my whole life and it remains one of my favorite ice cream stops. The selection of ice cream is huge and there are quite a few yogurt flavors to choose from as well. Only issue is that the parking lot is cramped and gets full quickly, but if you find an off hour it's well worth it.

Best ice cream, very dense and thick, and so delicious. My kids and I ordered sea salt caramel ice cream, and cotton candy. Made with real flavors, even the caramel. No bite was left, it was that awesome. We got medium bowls with a cone on top, and we were full. Plan to wait in line tho.

Stopped here after spending some time at the park running the F.I.T. Challenge race. Got a peantubutter banana chocolate shake. It was delicious and the large was the perfect size. Staff was very friendly. Outside seating area was clean and organized. I'll definitely stop here next time I am in town. Prices were right where I expect them to be for a family run ice cream shop.

This place is the real deal! The locations sits off busy Diamond Hill Road and doesnt have the parking lot to contain the crowds that visit this place so you will have to park across the street near the recreation fields. It doesnt look like much and is a smaller stand but has like 5 windows. Small attached candy store as well with fresh fudge, you may pass by this if you don't pay attention it is so small. The flavors and sundaes that litter this menu are awesome and creative and some of the best I have seen from any place around, so many choices and new ones every week according to the menu, tons of toppings and even creative shakes and drinks. No wonder people drive for miles to come here. The ice cream served here is creamy and tastes great, had a smores sundae and it was huge and every bite was excellent. Prices are decent and staff is pretty fast. This place earns its reputation as one of the best ice cream stands around.

Great quality Ice Cream. Family owned and a great atmosphere. Staff is always delightful. Ice Cream tastes good. Portion sizes are really big. That is my only concern as even a Kiddie size seems to be way big especially when you are trying to manage the weight. Tad expensive but taste and experience makes it a must visit place. Diamond Hill Park nearby in case you decide to burn your calories right after or right before visiting Ice Cream Machine.

My favorite since childhood. So many great memories but even today when I bring my own kids we always have a great experience. The ice cream flavors and quality cannot be matched. The only downside is the parking situation. There arent enough spots on the property and it is a busy road to cross with little ones.

The prices are a little high even though portions are big. Hugely popular with the locals. Great variety of flavors. I didn't like my hot apple sundae because the apple crisis was buried underneath too much icecream so that by the time I ate down to it, the crisp was very diluted and barely recognizable. And then the icecream had caramel and cinnamon and sugar so it was kind of too sweet. I generally like the icecream cones I get here.

Best place for ice creams comparing to the ice cream chains (Cold Stone Creamery/JP Licks etc). The ice cream doesn't melt that easily and become watery like most other. Price is decent (Small cup starts from 4.19) and quantity you get is definitely more than anywhere else for the sizes. There are around 30-40 flavours to choose from. It also server milkshakes. Recently they have opened a small pastry section too (candies, fudge etc). They do accept cards now over the counter. You dont have to go for the ATM to withdraw cash. Must visit place in summer.

They accept cash only and do have an ATM on site. However, there aren't any restrooms. That can be tough so make sure you go before arriving.

The kiddie size is like a regular for most ice cream shops. It's huge and plenty of ice cream for one person. Update: the kiddie size changed to about a quarter the size that it used to be.

I love the Ice Cream Machine! It's usually one of my favorites, but I felt a little ripped off in our recent visit. The sizes here are known to be waaaay bigger than you think so I ordered a small for myself and my husband. I got a coffee oreo but ended up receiving a mint oreo (I think that was due to the mask interfering what I said) regardless, what we got was a sad tiny scoop in a cup covered with a waffle cone. We also ordered chocolate jimmies and they were lacking as well. To top it all off the cones were stale! Needless to say the 40 minute drive was NOT worth it this time around. I guess we'll wait for covid-19 to be over to go again.

I don't usually write reviews, but as someone who goes to ice cream places all around the country, this is one of the best if not the best ever. I don't try every single flavor , but the ones I try are exceptional, especially coconut chocolate almond. Sometimes if you get ice cream off-season in the middle of winter the ice cream is not quite as fresh but still great . If you go during the busy season it's amazing. The girls working behind the counter are always quick and friendly, although when it's crowded it does take a while but that is only indicative it was a good place and people know it. To the person who said Tiny portions you must be really fat, the portions are huge and if you want more than that there must have issues. To the person who said it's busy and it's a while to order, that's because it's good. To those who complain about the parking again if it wasn't good it wouldn't be crowded.

Went in during a rain storm and was pleased to be under a wonderful canopy. The ice cream was good and we were able to sit under the canopy on a clean picnic table. Afterwards we went inside to the attached candy shop and checked out the many "penny" candy jars. Parking is limited but there is ample parking across the street at Diamond Hill. I am sure we will try this place again.

Super rich and creamy ice cream (one of the few IC establishments that still use butter fat, according to a conversation I had with the owner), with a huge selection of flavors, as well as no-sugar-added lines, sherbets, and sorbets. Five service lines (they finally painted and numbered the lines!) so even at the busiest hours the wait isn't dreadful. Homemade(of course) ice cream cakes are also available. A decent amount of parking with plenty of spillover in the lot across the road. And of course the friendly service makes it all the more pleasant. Expensive? Yep, but only slightly higher than other places, and an exponentially superior product. We no longer live in Cumberland, but we regularly take the trip there just for the Ice Cream Machine.

They have mango sorbet on their menu, I ordered mango sorbet and raspberry. Once I left with my ice cream to my car to avoid crowding and contamination of coronavirus I went to eat my ice cream and it's orange and raspberry sorbet. They didn't ask or tell me if they ran out of mango but instead just substituted for themselves which is inconsiderate and I could've been allergic. so this disappointing poor decision could've caused anyone harm without meaning and left me disappointed.
