The ice was delicious! We got 3 different kinds and all 3 were great. Fairly short wait considering, yummy ripe fruit on top. Just short of 5 stars due to the ordering process. When you walk up, it is mobile order only. This would be okay, except the cell service in the hallway where they are located is spotty at best. Of our group of 3, only 2 were able to get through to the website to place orders, and it was extremely slow with only 1 bar coming and going. Getting our orders in took significantly longer than waiting for our shave ice itself.

I honestly can’t describe how delicious the Ube shaved ice was here. Possibly one of my favorite desserts of all time. The portion was huge which was great because I did not want to stop eating! The shaved ice was sweet, light, refreshing, and flavorful (ube with coconut). FYI you order online and it is a pickup window- no seating in the shop. My order took about 5min. I’m already planning the next time I can stop by!

Wailua is super fun! We were expecting the kind of shaved ice where it’s a bit chunky, but it was really smooth, almost like snow. The flavors were excellent, the presentation is very pretty, and the portions are impressively large. Trust me, you’ll love it. You have to order online, even when you’re there in person, and they’ll call your order out when it’s ready.

Quick, delicious, good price! We ordered on the phone, the process was very simple and easy. The wait was under 5 minutes (we came in February and it wasn’t busy) I’m sure it gets a lot busier in the summer but definitely worth it! We ordered the Ube shaved ice. Delicious, not too sweet, huge portion!!! We will be back!!

This place is so crazy good!! I've never had shaved ice like this in my life, if i could get this every day i would. They are currently only taking online orders and the wait after ordering is about 10 mins. So refreshing and delicious, did not taste artificial and so well priced. Would absolutely come again, complete 10/10.

Wailua is soo delicious I am soo happy we tried it out! I was nervous to order the ube flavor as I’ve never tried ube before, however, I loved it!! The cream they put on top really ties the whole treat together. I want to go here every single day!!!

I have been a fan since I discovered Wailua Shave Ice in a little passage way near Powell Bookstore. Online ordering by scanning a QR code. Today, it was all about Mango Shave Ice. Chunks of fresh mango atop the snowy mound of shave ice with delicious mango syrup and coconut milk.

Really good. The one in Kauai is great too. This is the smaller size and it was plenty big. I got mine with snowcap (condensed milk) and ice cream. So yummy. You have to order ahead and they run on Hawaii time (so like 10ish minutes behind the time you pick) but we'll worth it.

I am normally not the biggest fan of shaved ice but this place was amazing. The Ube shaved ice is a must get. It melts quite quickly so I would recommend getting a smaller size. Seems like the perfect treat for a warm day but was equally wonderful on a nice spring day. They have their website posted outside and you can just order online.

If you are into shave ice, this is the absolute best you’re going to find. I ordered a lava flow with extra syrup and glitter, and it was excellent. The bad news is that you cannot call an order in, or even order it at the store front. You have to order online. And in order to process your payment , you have to have one of three very specific payment options. You cannot PayPal for this or enter your credit card. It was not convenient for me as someone who had never used Apple Pay before. The second challenge is that there is nowhere to park. Because your order will be ready at a specific time of their choosing, you need to be in front of the store to pick up your order at that time. We paid $8 to park and then another $10+ for the shave ice. It was definitely worth it, but not something I would do often.

I was thinking snow cones but this is SHAVED ICE and it has nothing to do with snow cones. It is SO MUCH BETTER!!!!! I am only sad they don’t have more locations because if you don’t live here (or Hawaii) you are missing out! Sweet and fluffy and delicious! I had the Ube and highly recommend it!

Mahalo! This is the best shaved ice I’ve had outside of Hawaii’s very own Shimazu; which is saying a lot! This shaved ice is so thin, it melts at the right heat, hardly sticks to the tongue or wooden spoon. I may say this tops my favorite shaved ice because the flavors are so concentrated and wonderful! I ordered the mango one (no Keiki size for me!) and the mango juice tasted fresh, like a true juice rather than flavoring. Whoever pours this juice is a master; not a single drop excess or a single drop less, my ice from the top to the bottom was completely mango ‘orange’. I brought my friend and she also agreed it’s the best aside from Oahū! The perfect treat on a hot day or low-cal (but sugary) dessert to end the night. I would return again and again if I could! Nothing beats fresh SHAVED ice. Be sure to walk inside the building!

Ordered Ube with Ube moose. The coconut milk and sugariness add in by default drowned out any Ube flavors… The shave ice texture is on point. Had I closed my eyes and was told is just coconut shaved ice I would give a better rating. The purple is just food coloring unfortunately. Also no trash cans… lucky the swee2O next door didn’t mind taking the bowl when we went in for their taro drink.

Stopped by after visiting Powells. We ordered on their website and although there were a lot of people ordering, the wait was pretty quick. We had the Wailua Sunrise and the Ube one and they were both great!

I got to try the Triple Coconut shaved ice, which consisted of a coconut milk base topped with Haupia foam and garnished with toasted coconut pieces. It was light and fluffy. It had a pronounced coconut flavor, and was perfectly sweetened. The Haupia foam made everything more creamy, while the toasted coconut brought the whole thing together. I loved all the different textures. I would definitely recommend to all coconut lovers. I also got to try the Orange Dream shaved iced, which consisted of orange and coconut milk base topped with Haupia foam and garnished with fresh orange bits. It was slightly tangy but creamy at the same time. The shaved ice tasted like fresh squeezed orange juice, but creamy. I recommend it if you like citrus flavors. I will be back to try other flavors!

This place has such yummy shaved ice, I got ube flavor and it was the best. The ice is really feathery in the sense that you can't just suck the flavor out of the ice, since the ice will melt on your tongue. And it also isn't too sweet. All in all, I think the shave ice here is really good.

My daughter brought me here because she said this was the best shave ice she's had outside of Hawaii. She's a fan of the Almond Joy - and it's definitely tasty - but I tried the Wailua Sunrise (always try the namesake product, right?) and it was delicious. The flavor (if you order with regular syrup) is there but it's not a in-your-face, high fructose corn syrup, diabetes-causing sweetness so if you're a sweets junkie, you might try ordering it with extra syrup. The toppings which were nice and fresh were presented delicately balanced on the bed of soft shave ice. The location of the shop is excellent too. Being from Vegas, I'm used to super sized/oversized, glitzy/glammy shopping malls/centers. Wailua is literally in an alleyway that connects SW Oak and W Burnside Streets. Microstores line both sides of the alley - the whole place is cozy, beautiful, and full of light and warmth.

This was the best shave ice we had all trip. It's not the cheapest/most affordable on the island but you pay for what you get. They use all natural syrups and fresh fruit (I even had fresh mango on mine!) in their shave ice and it really makes a difference. We will be back when we're back on the island.

I wish we had this in Seattle. I am NOT a fan of shaved ice because I always feel they skimp out in the flavors and the consistency is always lacking, but Wailua proved me wrong 2 years ago. This is always my favorite place to visit whenever I return. My two favorites are always the Pina Colada or the Oranges Shaved Ice. I should honestly try to venture out and try other flavors, but they make these so addicting it's hard to want to try anything else. I love the energy of the staff here. They are always fun and upbeat!

The fruit they use always tastes fresh, and the Keiki size is big enough for me, but the regular size seems perfect for a couple to share! I wish I could give them six stars...😞

It was good, but it is very confusing when you order online, because they say that the order is ready and it isn't. Sometimes this place gets very busy and is difficult to understand when they call your name. Yum!!! So good. I got the Almond Joy and my husband got the Damango One. So freaking good. It’s like the actual shaved ice not the snow cone kind. But actual shaved ice. It somewhat small and crowded in there but you could easily stand out side and here your order. They take cash and card which is very nice. This would be a wonderful place to go during the hot summer after visiting Powell’s Books. Good treat. 100% suggest this place.

So ono! This shave ice joint hits the spot and reminds you of the quality flavours found in Hawai'i. It's pretty authentic given the limited supply of fresh tropical fruits and ingredients. I was really hoping for lilikoi and other local flavours but it was good enough with the mangos, pineapples and strawberries. I recommend adding ice cream to the base of your shave ice. It makes it so much more satisfying. Definitely will return.

This place is a hidden gem, small but has great items to chose from. I had the "Lava Flow" Pineapple Juice, Coconut Foam, Strawberry Puree, Pineapple & Strawberry Fruit Topping and my daughter had "Wailua Sunrise" Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, & Pineapple Orange Fruit Topping. So many other to choose from a place to definitely go to if your visiting Portland. The service is quick and very friendly.

5 stars for food. Beautiful and tasty. Had the Orange and Ube flavors - both were light, fun, perfect desserts. 2 stars for at-store shopping experience. Ordering through a website is ultra-annoying: scan poster with QR code, walk outside to get cell coverage, navigate to website, order pickup location 100 feet away, enter too much personal info, type in credit card info, select obscure options from text menu, instantly get text message that the food is ready, wait another 15 minutes captive in a crowded hallway for your name to be shouted through tiny window. Why not place a digital kiosk with friendly UI and photos of options? Even better - have a friendly person clarify options and take the order.

Shave Ice...finally real Hawaiian Shave Ice. When I moved to the mainland as a kid, I couldn't understand Portlanders infatuation with sno-cones. This is the real thing like back home. The finely shaved ice with the flavored juices is so Ono that I longed to be back in Hawaii. I tested the Mahalo Mango and Locals, Mahalo🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽. The place is small and it can get very crowded very fast. If you've had Hawaiian Shave Ice before, go try and realize how Ono da buggah is...if you never had before, go try, you'll be hooked and wanting for them to add more flavors. I really enjoyed the shave ice I had at Wailua. It was in the high-80s so I was really surprised more people weren’t in line. It’s located in the Union Way group of storefronts. The owner seemed really nice and was definitely from Hawaii based on his gregarious personality. I had the pineapple strawberry shave ice with haupia cream. It was such a nice balance of tart pineapple, rich haupia cream, and sweet strawberries. The shave ice was a nice treat on a hot day. I hope to visit again someday.

Great service and dont forget your stamp card because the shaved ice here is SOOO GOOD. The texture is so fluffy that it melts in your mouth far better than any snow cone. There are many options of flavors and toppings to add onto your shaved ice such as ice cream. I really love Da Mango One and Love Potion #9. Will come back again!

AMAZING. The shave ice is very soft and practically melts in your mouth. Made with real fruit. The atmosphere is great, with great vibes and nice workers. It is a big portion for the price which is great. The only downside is that there is not much seating since it is a very small place, and the few seating areas that are available get taken quickly due to the vast amounts of people that go there, but that is not a negative thing because it shows just how great Wailua Shave Ice is! I got “Da Mango One” which was DELICIOUS.

When it comes to shaved ice, I am what one might call an addict. And when it comes to Shaved Ice, Hawaiian style is always the way to go. This place was top-notch. They had a solid, simple selection of flavours and the ice was beautifully packed. The cream on top and fresh fruit were delightful (lava flow was as tart and sweet and delectable as a real lava flow drink) and the whole experience was wonderful. For $6, this was a steal and could easily be shared between 2 people.

While I was huge fan on shave ice as a kid, I honestly wasn't in the mood for some the day I stopped by with my mom. She wanted one, so I agreed to share... and I'm so glad I did! Best one I can remember having. Not overly sweet and fantastic flavor (we had the pina colada), I only wish there had been a bit more of the syrup the get it all the way through. Also rather expensive for what it is, but worth the splurge. Love the location in the newish beautiful little shopping center.

Shave ice was nice and smooth as it should be. I ordered the Lava Flow and it tasted like they use canned pineapple juice as the flavoring. Not a fan of that taste at all, but if that floats your boat, go for it! Foam and other topping was good. Would shoot for a different flavor next time. Also plan on waiting for around 20 minutes if things are looking remotely crowded.

Yum! Yum! Yum! Delightful and popular spot for Hawaiian style shaved ice. I had the triple coconut and was not disappointed. Neither were my friends who got a love potion #9. Pro tip(s): get the ice cream at the bottom (which you can actually do in Hawaii). It's made by the Tillamook creamery. Then go get in your car and drive to Tillamook (on the coast) and gorge yourself on amazing cheese and ice cream (bring lactaid). Or just wander over to the Danner store and eat your shaved ice while you shop.

Be prepared to wait in line. This place is popular. However, it's worth the wait. Super friendly employees. My only gripe, they seem to skimp on the ice cream on the bottom. Other than that, this is how shave ice should be prepared.

In my memory, Wailua Shave Ice is amazing. I was really disappointed with today's experience. From the website it's unclear whether online ordering is an option or required, but when you get there you find out online is the only way to order. We didn't order ahead because you have no idea if your order will be ready in 5 minutes or 45 minutes. So we ordered on site from our phone at 2:55pm and got a text that said "your order will be ready at 2:55pm". I assumed that meant the wait wouldn't be too long. After waiting 35 minutes, I checked in about our order because I was worried that maybe it hadn't gotten received. Eventually, we got our order, but had I known the wait would be 45 minutes and that one of them would be too slushy, we wouldn't have ordered. I know running a food business in a pandemic is tough, and hopefully next summer things will be better.

I'm so jealous of Portland! We visited Kauai earlier this year where the original Wailua Shaved Ice food truck is and couldn't get enough of it. Triple coconut is by far the best choice! Subtle coconut flavor that tastes so true to real coconut, it leaves you wanting more! Perfect amount of whipped coconut cream on top to have a little with each bite! I'd travel back to Kauai just for this shaved ice, as if I didn't have enough reasons to return already...

In the middle of the day on a weekend, there was a fairly long line. The staff kept things moving as best they could and were polite and pleasant for as busy as they were. The shaved ice is a good price for a specialty item, especially compared to what you'd pay at the fair for an artificially flavored ice. Good variety to choose from on menu and unique flavor. Took me back to when I was in Kauai. Be prepared to wait on a weekend during nice weather.

It's not your normal shave ice, so I wouldn't go. If you're expecting something casual you would get an average snow cone stand. I had the Lava Flow, and it was so refreshing. The pineapple flavor was completely fresh and just perfect! The shave ice is a good size, too.

Wailua Shave Ice is legit. I used to live in Hawaii, and this is Hawaiian style shave ice. If you're unfamiliar, a special machine shaves a block of ice to create a kind of snow which is then formed into a snow ball. Flavored syrups are added and it's sort of like a snow cone, but much MUCH better. In Hawaii, shave ice places typically use syrups to flavor their shave ice like one would a snow cone. But Wailua shave ice makes their flavorings, including vanilla bean milk, ube (purple sweet potato), and others. Everything is high quality and very delicious. So while Wailua Shave Ice carries on the tradition of Hawaiian Shave Ice, they've actually taken it further and elevated the cold treat.

I had one that was like an orange creamsicle, my only complaint was the coconut tasted like toasted coconut and it just wasn't the bomb. The area where it is is so cute, fun urban feel and some seats too! We drove across town while visiting and will do it again. What a treat!

That’s the only reason I’m giving it a 4 star. My phone was on 2% and my partner doesn’t have a smart phone so it we were crossing fingers that the order would go thru before my phone died. It is different than the Matsumoto "standard" we are accustomed to but excellent in it's own right. Great flavor combinations, remember to ask for more flavor syrup when you get through the first syrup-rich layer (it's free). This place is awesome. The shaved ice is great and the staff is super friendly. Sometimes it gets busy and you’ll end up waiting a while but it doesn’t happen often. They do need to fix one problem - the container in which they serve it essentially makes it impossible to take it “to go”. It’s a small cardboard cup on which they balance a half pound of deliciousness. I’ve almost spilled it in the store several times. I tried to carry one home 5 blocks to my girlfriend and just as I got through the front door and tried to put it down it rolled over and dumped everywhere. Some kind of to-go container would be awesome. I’d even pay extra for it!

This is the best shave ice on Kauai and they recently opened a second location in Portland. For Oregonians used to snow cones, where you run out of syrup and are left with a pile of unflavored ice, this will be a treat. Shave ice has a different consistency that allows the syrups to be absorbed by the ice. From start to finish, the ice is infused with flavored goodness. Wailua Shave Ice uses only homemade syrups, making for a much better product than other companies that rely on canned products. Check them out and you'll see why Hawaiians rave about shave ice.

The line was long (and kept getting longer) but the shave ice was delicious! This is "Da Mango One" and I added haupia, lihing and some ice cream on the bottom. Highly recommend. But maybe get there as early as you can, or come with the idea you'll be waiting a while. It was worth it, and tastes like the ones I always get when visiting Hawaii. I'm not sure if the line thing is still and issue, perhaps hype has died down a little, but even if it was, it wouldn't really deter me from going, unless i had somewhere to be. Just bring good company, and you'll be just fine.

Such a refreshing treat! I enjoyed “Da Mango One.” I added a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, to be covered with shaved ice and then drizzled with fresh mango juice and sweetened condensed milk, and topped with fresh mangos. You get a spoon and a short straw so you don't miss any of the juice. But even on a hot August day it didn't melt quickly.

Great idea with placing shave ice on table and letting customers go in one at a time to pick up their order. Tried it for the first time last night. Luckily we made it before the line got really long. We tried the Lava Flow, Da mango, love potion#9, and pina colada. Out of the 4 the best ones were the mango and love potion. My 12yr old who loves anything pina colada didn’t care for it and actually couldn’t finish it, it definitely didn’t taste like a yummy tropical drink and my hubby thought the foam on the lava foam smelled like stinky feet, he didn’t finish his either. We were kinda bummed because they looked so tasty. I’m pretty sure we won’t make a special trip back there to have the love potion#9 unless we happen to be in the area. I did happen to see a couple people smell the foam on their desserts while we were sitting there eating ours so maybe the foam has a smell and funky taste or maybe we just got a bad one. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cute Hawaiian shaved ice stand in a covered shopping aisle. Order through their Square shop online, go for a walk around the block, then pick up from the counter. You can imagine this place gets pretty busy on a hot day! If there's lots of people loitering nearby, be prepared for a bit of a wait. Fortunately there's plenty of window shopping to be done in the rest of the aisle, if you're into hipster clothes and goods. It's difficult picking from all the flavors, but ultimately I ordered the Keiki Ube with Li Hing Mui (sour plum powder). I couldn't really taste the plum powder, but otherwise the shave ice was soft, flavorful, creamy, and did not disappoint.
