The coffee chip cup I had hit the spot, and the rest of the family found flavors to pick out too. The setting and location clearly hit the mark. The service was ready and cheerful. The flavors are more “solidly compact” and emphasize taste than those that try for texture, novelty, or innovation. It’s old school in that sense and must be approached that way.

The ice cream is delicious and the specialty sundaes are fabulous (try the Reese’s one!). The staff is friendly and pleasant. Two things to note: the hours are not always as listed on Google, due to staffing issues, so definitely call ahead! Additionally, seating is a bit limited. Not usually an issue but on a busy Saturday, you may have trouble.

It's close to home and they offer what they call 'Mongrel Monday' ... a free doggy sundae (vanilla softserve with a bone). I find the portions are sometimes smaller than other places, and flavors are limited at times, but we still go because it's delicious ice cream!

Always great ice cream and friendly staff. They have been out of Oreo the past two times I've been there, but moose tracks is a decent substitute! I do wish they were on some kind of delivery service :(

Not the best, but certainly not the worst. The menu is very uniquely designed with a ton of flavors and toppings. The ice cream is pretty creamy! I would recommend. My parents have loved this ice cream for over 30 years, so maybe I’m just picky, but certainly atleast give them a try 😂 …

Beal's is fantastic! I've been a customer of the Old Port location for many many years, and the variety of flavors plus the quality of the ice cream is unmatched. It's a Portland institution for a reason, and a must-visit for anyone in town during the spring and summer months!

Stopped here while visiting Portland, got some ice cream to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Customer service was definitely lacking, the staff seemed pretty young so not sure if that’s why but the ice cream was average, I don’t get the hype!

Their ice-cream is tops in my opinion the only caveat is, besides sorbet and sherbet, they serve no dairy free ice-cream. Although that doesn't stop me from coming!

Stopped here after a long bike ride in Portland to grab something sweet. The best brownie sundae I have ever had! Great location and sitting area, great people and service, but prices are a little high. Still, I totally recommend this place to the ice cream lovers out there!

Stopped by on a Sunday evening. Parked along Veranda street without a problem and then got 3 of my son’s and myself ice cream cones. No complaints on our end! Flavors amongst the group: grasshopper (kind of a mint chocolate chip + Oreos), chocolate, black raspberry and banana cream pie; all great and great variety of cones to chose from. Very relaxing atmosphere and the staff was polite and fast, and kept the line moving without a feeling of inconvenience. Certainly will be back!

Having ice cream at Beals Veranda Street stand is like stepping back in time....only better. The ice cream is rich and tasty, better than I even remember, with sundaes that don't skimp on the toppings, except there are WAY more flavors. And the servers handle the steady stream of happy customers with a smile.

Best ice cream place on veranda street!! They have all the old timey flavors that my old man heart desires, like grape nut and rum raisin! They're even cash only!!! Back in my day we didn't have any of these fancy credit-cards, so this makes me feel right at home. I give it three hearts and a smiling emojicon!

I'm giving this a 4 instead of a 5 for two reasons. First, it's cash only. Second, my ice cream was twice as expensive as my husband's because as soon as I got outside a bird, flying overhead, crapped all over me and my cone. It sucked. So I had to get a new cone 😕. It's okay.. Nothing to write home about, the Beals on the way to Gorham is much much better.. I think the ice cream here sits much longer, and the one towards Gorham is where the make the ice cream.. Whatever it is tale the trip its worth it, save this location for a last resort.

Great ice cream. Perfect place for the family to get a treat. Benches and tables are available to sit while you eat. Keep in mind, this location is cash only.
