Cute spot for ice cream on the go. Despite the long line and long wait, the ice cream shop had a variety of selection and friendly staff members. Even with a wide variety, stuck to the chocolate soft serve and was not disappointed. It was smooth and had an enriched chocolate taste. My husband had the Whoopie pie flavored ice cream and was not disappointed either. Tasted just like a cold Whoopie pie. Really enjoyed the cute artsy vibe and but wish there were more than three seating indoors or even outdoors as the ice cream was melting in the heat. I had to literally pause in the middle of the shop to quickly eat my soft serve as it was oozing out. Shout out to the employee for looking out with a cup just in case it fell out.

Dog friendly ice cream shop with picnic table seating outside. There were no lines around 8pm on a Saturday. Ice cream was fine, pretty average. The salted caramel was very bland, not salty nor did it have a caramel flavor. Other flavor selection was typical. There was nothing too exciting. I like that they had a pup cup option but it was $3 for a shot of vanilla soft serve. I think I caught our server on a bad day because she definitely could have been nicer.

Heard they had Teaberry flavor, one of my all time favorites. Went and was told would be delivered tomorrow. Went back and the young ladies here were kind enough to get it from the back for me. It was fantastic. Went back the next day for seconds. Very cordial young ladies working there. Keep them all around!!!

This was my very first experience with blueberry ice cream, and I LOVED IT! This ice cream was so creamy and rich, so smooth and brightly flavored. The portions were sweetly generous!! I couldn't get enough of it! It is set just off the main road, so you need to be intentional. We sampled ice cream from several shops during our week in Portland, and this one was by far our favorite. You must go!!

Average ice cream shop. The price seemed rather high to me. It was $5 for a single scoop. It was refreshing on a hot day and the outside patio area is nice. Be sure to have cash.

Maine made ice cream at it's finest! All the classic flavors plus some oddballs if you're into experimenting with your dairy. The type of place that displays all the flavors behind glass so it actually takes longer to decide because everything looks so good. I was here on a quiet afternoon in mid-May so we were served right away and the staff was friendly. Tight inside and very limited outside seating, so enjoy your walk!

The ice cream here is insanely sweet, I was not a fan. They do have a surprising amount of flavors, though so maybe go try them out. There was a line when I went and it went by relatively quickly. The scoops are very large as well. Would recommend if you have a sweet tooth or craving! My brother tried French toast, but it was kind of gross.

I had five different flavors while I was there. ( Yes I am a ice cream connoisseur.) Heath bar. blueberry cobbler, Kahlua chocolate, cookies and cream and caramel cream ripple. All were out of this world good.

Beal's is a classic ice cream store. The flavors are interesting, and good. The service is fast, and the prices are reasonable. Boy oh boy what a location. I've been going here since highschool and it's never disappointed.

Fantastic ice cream! I was in last evening and have an allergy to wheat. The young lady scooping went above and beyond to ensure that I would not get sick. She washed a scoop and only scooped from a new bucket that hadn’t been scooped from and just been opened. The sugar free caramel pecan was amazing and I couldn’t tell it was sugar free! Thank you for making my ice cream dreams come true!

Stopped here after an evening exploring the Old Port area. I got the cheesecake swirl and my wife got the moose tracks. This was definitely the best dessert we had all trip!

Mom and Pop store feel. Lots of flavors to choose from. Flavors are not overpowering but subtle and that's hard to find nowadays. Only minus was the girls using their bare hands to give people their cones. I chose the bowl.

Really great ice cream. I loved getting fruity pebbles blended with soft serve. They have really high quality ice cream, you just have to make sure you go earlier rather than later because things start to shut down there an hour before they close.

I asked for soft serve, but they had only a few minutes prior turned on that machine. (The time was approximately 11:10.) The ice cream was too soft to serve. I settled for two scoops of hard serve. While the ice cream was good, I believe the machine should have been turned on early enough to provide full service at the time of opening.

this place is painfully charming. Sea foam green chrome gilded vintage milkshake machines and such all over the place. Really clean, cash only. My wife got some blueberry ice cream and she said it was just great. I got a root beer float and it was also just great. Drop on by and see yourself slip back in time to a simpler, tastier america.

Ice cream here is very good. I would suggest the Maine Blueberry if you are visiting. The only reason I rated 4 stars is they are cash only. I suggest they raise their prices by $0.35 and accept cards. It would make us stop in more, and buy more at each visit. Many people don't carry cash at all times and don't want to pay a $3 ATM fee to buy a $3 ice cream. We have had to make the choice of going up the street for a sweet treat when we have been caught without cash downtown. We would've rather had their ice cream because it is very good.

Quiant ice cream shop in Portland. They offer many different flavors of ice cream in 2 types of cones and cups. They are cash only. And 1 scoop cone is around $4, and it is a pretty hefty price, but it is a big scoop as it should be. When we got there around 11AM, there was really no line. Service was quick and painless.

Great ice cream for a good price. Beal's has a wide variety of flavors, and good large sizes; a small is big enough for me. Note they only take cash but they do have an ATM in the shop.

Many flavors available. One scoop was $4+, but 3 scoops were only a buck extra. So, the 3 of us shared a 3-scoop cup, while walking around shopping, (which brought back memories of our trip in Italy, with multiple scoops of gelato). Their Blueberry Cobbler was petty awesome.

If you're looking for a unique take on the traditional ice cream flavors you have to try this. They have classics but also Teaberry, chocolate cookie dough, apple crisp, peppermint stick... I will say that it's not as amazing as it once was, but still a wonderful spot with a quality product.

I'm sure it was an off night because of the heat wave but it was HOT in this shop. There were two air conditioners in the back, both off or out of order. There were flavors on the board as we waited 15 minutes or so to get up to the counter that they did not have in the case (I guess they didn't have time to take the label down?). They ran out of waffle cones too. The biggest thing that got me though, was the employees wearing inappropriate footwear. One was wearing Crocs, but not the non-slip kind. They were the kind with holes in the them, and I know for a fact that those are not restaurant safe and they get extremely slippery on any slightly wet surface. This person was also wearing no socks. Another employee was wearing straight up flip flops. Definitely not up to restaurant code. Ice cream was below average.

Nice ice cream shop, accepts only cash. Scoops are really big... my wife and shared just one scoop which was enough for us. It is a bit expensive $4.45 for a scoop... But then again they are in the tourist area and probably paying a lot in rent.

A classic ice cream shop. With a wide variety of flavors and toppings you'll definitely be able to find the ice cream to quench that ich on a hot day. Be prepared though, even with the lightning scooping skills of the workers here it's location right in the heart of Old Port means there will most likely be a line in peak season. Don't fret however, for like I said the workers are quick and capaple and youll have your mint chocolate chip or flurrie in no time. Dont forget to tip ;)

The service was excellent. I got a waffle cone of the Teaberry flavored ice cream and it was amazing.... tasted just like the classic Teaberry gum that everyone remebers, except with some chocolate chips in there for added flavor. I recommend trying this flavor if you stop by.

Feels like the snack shack at a putt-putt course or something. Staff appears to be high school girls on their first summer job and the ice cream is kind of hard and not too exciting. There's really nothing at all wrong with this place but since it is only a block or two from several really impressive spots for ice cream and gelato it doesn't serve much purpose in the neighborhood.

Fantastic ice cream parlor!! This is a must visit. Creamy, flavorful spot on ice cream. Fresh made incredible tasting waffle cones. Ate early evening and went back again!! Be warned cash only :(

I’m torn because Beal’s ice cream is DELICIOUS, but the staff were incredibly rude to my group and several other customers. Especially a customer with a walking aid who was having trouble at the time. I honestly would have left without buying anything if I had seen that before we paid.

Ich habe zwei bestellt, in Deutschland wären es vier gewesen. Es war sehr, sehr lecker! (Translation) The Black Raspberry was probably one of the best ice creams I've ever eaten. And the cookie and cream was very good too. If you don't want a lot of ice cream, you can only order one scoop. I ordered two, in Germany it would have been four. It was very very tasty!
