Reviews of 22 Below
Ice cream has good flavor and worker is contentious and skilled at rolled ice cream. I like that they have ideas of combinations. Toppings do seem limited. Ambiance feels a bit sterile and less inviting. Overpriced but good to splurge occasionally.
This is a wonderful change from conventional ice-cream. It's more dense like gelato but tastes like rich ice cream. The handmade process isn't speedy so plan to wait a little but it's worth it. Staff was overwhelmed but patiently made each serving to perfection. Portions are generous and extra toppings seemed to be free.
if you have 15$ lyin around and want to treat yo self it's a good idea. it's chill and the staff were pretty nice. the boba was splendid, i got the hokkaido milk tea (which the worker explained was caramel whereas the okinawa milk tea was brown sugar. they had lots of fruity options too so i'll have to come back and try) but, i wish it had more tapioca balls. that's my only complaint. next time i will order extra!
the ice cream was good too! i got oreo&pb, but they had lots of options and they all sounded really good. they rolled it up into little ice cream rolls, which was cute.
The tea here is amazing! I got the Lychee green tea, and my boyfriend got the raspberry black tea, both with Boba. The drinks are fairly large, and you get a lot for what you pay. Two drinks were about $15, and it was well worth it. They also serve rolled ice cream here, which I will be coming back for another, most likely warmer day! They also have a variety of milk teas and add-in flavors (such as lavender) available.
First time trying rolled ice cream and
it didn’t disappoint!!
I've come here twice during work breaks for some ice cream on hot summer days, and I absolutely love it! First of all, it's really cool seeing the process of how rolled ice cream is made. The workers do it so quickly and effortlessly! Second, they have some really interesting flavors and what I've tried so far tastes fantastic. I've had the Green Monster (matcha and oreo blend), as well as their Honey Lavender flavor. I've already recommended this place to several people I know and I will keep coming back!
The place, while unique and interesting, seemed super busy-usually a good thing-there are only 2 workers making the ice cream rolls at one time. There is one entrance/exit making it difficult to get through the line that piles up just to get out the door. Overall my kids loved it.
It felt like visiting a frozen yogurt place in 2007, before anyone really realized the “self-serve” thing could take off - a bland retail front, dirty floor and ikea furniture dot the location as an exuberant teen welcomes you.
It was Sunday at 9pm, and the store was still busy teens enjoying the end of summer, college students hanging out, even a few families were still passing through.
I’ve been curious about rolled ice cream for awhile, i got one with peanut butter, chocolate and salt. It was pretty good, if not gimmicky. I’d probably go again.
You should try it out!
Delicious ice cream! Me and my boyfriend came for our first time and were thrilled to watch our ice cream be made in front of us! Huge variety of flavors to chose from like hot Cheetos to New York style cheese cake (my boyfriend got the NYC cheese cake kind sooo good!) Not your ordinary ice cream parlor! This is definitely a gem!
Such an awesome place to get ice cream. Everything is fresh and made to order right in front of you. Definitely enjoyed our time spent there. Super friendly staff. I'd recommend this place to any one. The pictures are of the PB Twist!!
10/10 highly recommend if you're in Portland and want some really good ice cream. Definitely would be a nice spot for a date, the campfire flavor is delicious
Rolled Ice Cream from Scratch. There are plenty of different custom choices already up on the menu and you can even customize it some more but options are limited. I tried to add cheesecake to a different ice cream and i was told no but in the end i got what i wanted i jusy chose the cheeze cake any way and customized it. Top it off with more flavors before you take off. 🔥
Love this place 🤩💕 so delicious! And it’s satisfying to watch them make it, I’m glad they do that. Super cool! I think I get what I pay for and I’m full after eating it :) all around satisfying. …
It is definitely an interesting concept but beyond being a gimmick there isn't anything unique in terms of flavors it quality. The ice cream is just regular, does not taste as rich as you would want or as flavorful.
Rolled ice cream- nice twist to the usual ice cream. Not too heavy. Price is a bit on the high side.
Clean place. Good ice cream. Just be patient for the reward. Also, careful of brain freeze!
I'll give them another try and possibly adjust my rating. My ice cream was tasty, the service has room for improvement.
Unique, great taste and presentation. Good spot to take the family on a Sunday afternoon or any hot day. Cheaper than the frozen yogurt places.
Great tasting. Ordered delivery, everything was made correctly. Picture is matcha oreo with popping bubbles. Basically boba icecream!
Nice staff, small place, clean interior. The ice cream is a little expensive but the tea prices are normal for the area.
Excited to have a rolled ice cream place in Portland! Green thai milk tea was a bit watery. Matcha mango ice cream was AMAZING. Takoyaki was okay... Depends on who's working, you could have your food in 4mins or 30 mins... Will come back again
Pretty cool experience. I felt bad honestly for the employees. Looks like super hard work. This is why I'm giving a 5 star but the ice cream tastes regular. Still looks awesome!
Adequate ice cream served in cute little rolls. Personally not a fan. Staff was very friendly.
This is the most mouth watering ice cream I have ever gotten, and the drink taste good too, the ice cream is the Nutty-Nut (Contains banana and peanut butter cups)
This place was so much cooler than I expected! (No pun intended). A very unique experience with delicious ice cream. I will definitely be back. I had the matcha Oreo ice cream, it was delicious!
Good ice cream. Over priced. Nice that they have a kiosk to order and pay at.
Great service, good ice cream. However it's a bit pricey, and traditional ice cream is far better.
This was my first time trying rolled ice cream and it was amazing! The spot seemed super popular right after we got there about 50 people got in line and the poor guys seemed over whelmed but they pumped ou all the dishes pretty quick. Super tasty and so so many flavors to choose from. I will definitely be returning many times to come in the future I highly recommend checking this place out. It's fun to watch your ice cream being made. Definitely try the toasted marshmallow topping.
Loved strawberry-rose water ice cream
Taste is different in a good way in comparison of other ice cream stores.
I had a good experience and the lady there was nice, the guy is very good at what he does and a regular is all you need it's actually enough for one person. Good Over All!
I'm torn between four and three. It was certainly a four star experience! But the actual ice cream was just okay.
To start, this place is small and easy to miss. It's tucked into the side of a building without a lot of signage. If I didn't know the look at pictures of the inside before I came I might have missed it! We arrived around 8 and it was moderately busy. We arrived at the perfect time because a group of maybe 20 walked in right after us. The menu board is a little hard to read- I wish they had paper menus. But this certainly didn't detract from the experience. After maybe a 10 minutes wait we placed our order and paid. Then we got to watch all of the order get made! This was the coolest part. Watching how the rolled ice cream is made, especially with all of the flavor option, is pretty darn cool. The workers here handled the crowd like pros. They never seemed stressed, which is impressive with the size of the crowd. It took about 20 minutes from when we placed our order to get our food. But the process to make the ice cream is so labor intensive, I wasn't surprised. Just be ready to factor that in when you visit. There will be a wait.
I got campfire and the boy got mudslide. Mine consisted of chocolate ice cream, toasted marshmallow and graham cracker crumbs. They toast the marshmallow right in front of you! Way cool! The mudslide was chocolate ice cream, Oreo and one other thing..I don't remember..sorry! Then we both got the option of whipped cream, 1 sauce and three toppings. You certainly get the most bang for your buck!!
The only down side to the ice cream is it's a little difficult to eat. Since the ice cream is so frozen and rolled so tightly, it's difficult to pierce and get it on your spoon. Gonna be honest, I flipped many spoonfuls onto the table. Sad day. (But unlike the giant family who didn't bother to watch their kids or clean up after themselves- I did. Watch your damn kids. Be respectful of the workers and other guests. If you child is standing on the chair next to another guest, at ANOTHER table, you're doing something wrong.)
The flavor was also good! Since they "chop" the ingredients and roll it through the ice cream you get the full flavor in each bite! It was great!
All in all, it was a fun experience. I'm not sure I'll be back soon but I wouldn't complain about returning.
Ice cream flavors were good but not delicious. They have vegan options.
It’s expensive for ice cream but you can easily share a cup with someone. Entertaining to watch and delicious!
Fun ice cream and the employee was great.
This is a fun and unique place worth checking out. They mix your flavor up right in front of you using a base flavor like chocolate or vanilla. I got the ‘guilty pleasure’ which is Nutella and banana and I was kind of surprised to see them bust out an actual banana and real Nutella. The surface they mix on is super cold so it traveled well without melting. One thing to note is that it is time consuming to mix these concoctions up so you might have to wait a bit to be served. And don’t forget to tip!
I have had ice rolls there 2 times and each time I did not really like it. The rolls are hard and not really flavorful, the only thing that was good was the toppings. I have had ice rolls in other places and they were more creamy and flavorful. The staff here was kinda rude, I was sitting down waiting for my car ride, after I had gotten my ice rolls and I had heard the two staff members asking each other when I was going to leave, then gave me the eye. I have not tried anything else from that place, but I will give it a try.
We came through about 430ish, the shop was clean and quiet. The young man behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. He even smiled as my husband changed his mind twice before making his ice cream. He was quick and showed great skills as he crafted each ice cream and continued smiling and chatting with us. We will be making regular trips and next time we are going to get our dogs the pup cream treat. The ice cream rolls looked like roses, how pretty.❤💚💜💖 Experience 22 below and you wont be sorry.
Ok, so it's a novel take on ice cream. But is it good? Tasty?
Yes!!!
Getting past the really interesting and surprisingly fun to watch process of making the to-order 22 Below ice cream (I was enthralled more by the chopping and scraping part of the floor show, then by the rolling part), the ice cream itself is quite tasty!
I went chocolate with chocolate stuff, and it was rich, deep, complex, not too sweet, and a unique and unusually pleasant mouth feel.
I immediately commented that some fruit combination using their technique would probably be really good. I'll try that next time.
Is it worth driving across town for? I don't know about that, but I'll take 22 Below any day vs. waiting in line like some shlub at Salt & Straw.
It definitely should be a stop on the way to or from Providence Park.
If you're an ice cream lover, and want something you've never had before, this is your place.
First time we been here(grand kids and me), it's a great place to see how they prepare your ice cream. For it being a hot day 88° I thought it would be busy. Took less than 5mins to get our dessert (there were four of us) and enjoyed our outing. Has we toasted our cup of ice cream to their mom (my step daughter) while she's on deployment.
We will return soon.
Interesting Thai ice cream spot. Fun to watch them prepare things for you, lots of yummy toppings to choose from. The sundaes are huge and there's a ton of mix-in combos to choose from. It was very busy even on a Thursday afternoon, lots of kids from the high school there. Good value and worth trying out if for nothing more than the unique style.
Enjoyed the unique ice cream. It's fun to watch them prepare each treat. Be prepared to wait a while as each is made when ordered.
I had a Mud Slide with added carmel sauce and sliced almonds. It was delicious.
This was SO delightful. I had never been. The girl at the counter was so sweet and directed me to mango and banana tropical treat. Its fun to watch them create your order. They were kind, friendly and it was rather quick and well worth the money. I came in kind of crabby and left with a smile on my face. Will go back again and direct friends to come..even if it's not a hot day. And the space is very clean.
Fun concept! The staff/owners were friendly and made our experience fun. We had lots of questions because this rolled "scream" was new to us. The staff answered our questions and helped us find something we'd like. (We need to go back because there is a lot to like) I got the breakfast with strawberries and fruity pebbles- awesome! One child got a candy bar type, tasted good, standard though. My husband got the hot cheetos- It was soooo good!! I'm getting that next time. Price was great. For 2 adults and 3 kids it was about 20 dollars. To me that was worth the money, trying something new and delicious that made everyone satisfied.
This is the hottest new place in town. Bland non description decor but nice outdoor seating to enjoy your ice cream on a warm summer evening. It is more about entertainment than food as you watch the ice cream artists do their show. It is also the hangout with lots of teens taking Instagrams with themselves and the rolled ice cream. But adults seem to love the place too.
Friendly people and the ice cream was great! They have a pool table inside which would be fun to use if we weren't all worried about covid. Definitely a nice treat and hidden gem for Goose Hollow if you're in downtown Portland.
I cant wait to go back! My first visit was extraordinary. I can't wait to try more flavor combinations! Really look forward to trying the matcha base on my next visit instead of the vanilla which was so delicious. The only compliant I would express is that since this location is so popular, there is always a line (the line moved fast, that's not the issue) and it's difficult to leave the establishment without feeling like a total nuisance or crawling over or under a guard rail.
It was pretty cool 😎! We got a groupon to roll our own icecreams. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable, and kept it fun despite the somewhat hectic atmosphere from a confrontational patron. …
I have only had rolled ice cream one other time, in Arizona...it was better in Arizona. They had a pretty decent selection of flavors just didn't taste very good unfortunately. It was not that clean either
Truly a unique method of making icecream. The store was busy, and clean. The staff helpful and quick. I had the salty breeze and my son had a chocolate strawberry. Good stuff!
Went to their ice cream making course today. My daughters each got to make rolled ice cream and there was plenty to take home. Yao was very patient and a great teacher. Highly recommend.
I never meant to give a one star rating to my absolute favorite place. It was an accident. The frozen goodness they put out is addicting. I can honestly say it is my number one and first place I would tell anyone to go to. I had to cut back after I made up a smorgasbord of different flavors and it was $14 dollars. It was a gigantic amount of frozen excellence. I apologize for the accidental one star I am correcting. Based on going there for years, there quality and creative flavors still amaze me as I have a small pallet. Now talking about it, I'm going to pick some up. Luckily I live close, but I would drive from anywhere for that.
I really enjoy 22 Below and their bubble tea smoothies are great! The 3-star rating is due to their hours and lack of keeping consistent hours, or actually being open during the times they list. I’d given up on going here well before COVID19 hit simply due to having attempted to go there multiple times during hours they’d listed as being open. I’d arrive, they’d be closed, no sign on the door and no update to their website. Great concept and treats...if you can catch them actually open.
Amazing!!! Went there on a rainy Saturday in June, wasn't busy. Had the Dark Souls with Raspberry sauce and coconut flakes and it was FANTASTIC!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
I must say this place is awesome! I was a bit skeptical at first I thought this rolled icecream were all looks and no flavor but to my surprise, its flavor is fantastic, it's really yummy and creamy my wife and my daughter also loved it! I will sure visit again and try the other flavors.
Fun! I came here with a child who loved watching them make his ice cream. I thought the ice cream itself might be a little ice, but it was really creamy and delicious. Very good. Good choice of toppings too. A fun treat to share.
Fun for all ages! They have classic flavors as well as creative flavor combos like mixing Hot Cheetos into your ice cream. Fun to watch them “build” your rolled ice cream dish.
Ordered a tea with popping bubbles and it wasn’t quite right the first time. They were so kind and instantly offered to make me a new one (with their new rainbow bubbles!). It was such a great experience, will definitely be back!
Easy to read menu board. Ice cream is made right in front of you takes about 5mins. Flavors all sounded amazing. I got purple love and it was perfect! We also got Thai Tea, made perfectly.
Even better than I expected. If you like smooth vs fluffy textures this is the place for you. Excellent matcha ice cream, definitely a performative aspect to the prep, long line but worth a try with good company. Generous toppings at no additional charge
the ordering system is very confusing. had 5 others in front if us, but there was no name or number system. also, we got back in line to get our ice cream...? the same 30 second clip of how they make "hot cheeto ice cream" was on a continuous loop on their monitor ne t to the menu, which was kinda maddening. are there other cool flavors to show off? it took about 25 mins to get our ice cream, it was fun to watch them make it and we got to pick a few toppings for it! the ice cream was very delicious. I would go back again if there wasnt a line!
All of the employees have stellar attitudes despite how consistently busy it is! And super great ice cream! I would recommend coming on the weekday if you can due to the wait in line, but it’s not really a huge inconvenienc.
Little flavor? What did you get vanilla? I’m sure the person that left that review has a lack of taste buds or had a cold when they stopped in. I ordered the Campfire, which is one of 2 s’more flavors. Chocolate base, graham crackers, and toasted marshmallow (the guy set the marshmallows on fire in front of my eyes). It was mesmerizing to watch and delicious to eat. The large was big enough to share and saved well in my freezer.
The ice cream we got was really good and very creamy but the Boba tea we got was very meh. The tea itself was a mild flavor and the jelly had no flavor at all. I would go again for ice cream but not for boba tea.
Liked the ice cream and the idea of thin-spreading it on icing skillet.
As for staff, I'm sorry - that is some intense labor. Doing that for hours is hard. Thank you guys.
tip the staff for what you are going to enjoy.😄
It's a pretty good roll ice cream place. Could use more flavors and choice of toppings. The place does get a bit crowded during weekends. Not much place to sit. Overall it's worth a visit!
Customer service was good and the quality of the products was acceptable. Disappointed that they didn't have shakes of some sort. So I settled for a Strawberry Milk thing without the bubbles - they were out of bubbles anyhow.
People bringing non service dogs into a facility that makes food for human consumption - is that a Portland thing? They would let their dog wander about...yes, still on a leash; but getting in people's way and rubbing against paying customers. Is the owner of the dog or the owner of the restaurant responsible for dog hair in food? Just wondering.
A really cool experience for first timers! I live in North Portland and I’ve made trips just for this place! Sometime they don’t have things on the menu and it’s a little disappointing but I quickly forget when I order something else delicious!
First visit I had the Rocky Road ...the marshmallows were stale and the almonds were soft..chocolate had no flavor. We both tried it.....chocolate sauce was watery 😐
My daughter had the peanut butter cup....she said it was creamy and delicious
Wonderful ice cream and great service. I recommend the pink explosion.
The staff here are so nice! And the ice cream sooo good. We've been here twice now, and we like both their chocolate and fruit flavors. Will be back soon!
Cutest little place..really delicious flavor options
Delicious ice cream and delicious drinks! Price is what you expect when it's all made to order, right in front of you. Friendly staff. Definitely recommend!
New concept to me. Daughter found it while on vacay in Portland. You get to watch them chop up the ingredients pour on the cream and it freezes right in front of you. Flavors were good. Will be back on our next trip!
Omg this place is great. There can be a bit if a wait but it's worth it to get to watch them make the ice cream. My favorite is the banana nut one. It was a lot of ice cream so maybe next time I'll get a kids portion.
Not only is the ice cream amazing, the environment is also super fun and is a cool place to hang with friends! I also left my wallet in there and the workers were extremely kind, held it for me, and literally everyone was in it when I got it back. Thank you!!!
I came in last night and got a taro milk tea. The service was super friendly and the tea was great. Just wanted to say the guy working was really cute and if you happen to read this you should follow my instagram -> coco.colala
I read the hype about rolled ice cream, and tried the closest place to me. It is an unusual form of ice cream, intriguing to watch. But the taste was just average, not rich and creamy. Sorry, not a fan.
I have never been inside this place, but did stare through the window once. GPS FTW! The pictures of bubble tea on the window look great!
Fun. Had lavender and honey ice cream. The honey almost candied in the cold. Wish they listed all the ingredients available and let you compose your own. Loved it.
Good as far as rolled ice cream goes. Long line. The atmosphere in the indoor seating is a bit uninviting but it's also an ice cream shop so meets expectations
This is a fun and different ice cream place where they make rolled ice cream. Tons of options and comparable in cost to any other ice cream place. Take a while to make them so I wouldn't take a huge crown there tho.
The employee working today went above and beyond for me! 10/10 customer service! Thank you! ❤️
Definitely a unique way to have ice cream. So many flavor options and they have smoothies and dessert type snacks as well! Great place for kids
They are cool and have nice ice cream. Order from door dash for their best experience though.
Great ice cream options and fun to watch them make it for you. I opted for chocolate and my partner had the strawberry.
Trendy ice cream that takes forever to make but hey they've got every topping you could ever want including hot Cheetos. Bubble tea was fun to drink.
very good, a lot more dense than it looks
This place is cool... The kids loved it! They were very entertained watching them making the ice cream. The ice cream is good. It is a little spendy tho.
Fun place to go to if you're bored of regular ice cream. In case you're wondering, this place has rolled ice cream! It is a great place to check out if you are new to Portland.
One of our new favs for their rolled icecream.
Really cool to watch them make the ice cream. Doesn't taste any different from other ice cream places but you really are going more for the experience
Although the wait time is longer than I'd like it to be the ice cream was so flavorful and so worth it! Rolled ice cream is definitely my new favorite thing.
Awesome ROLLED ICE CREAM totally a different way of making ice cream, great milk tea and the customer service is really nice they explain everything to you if it's your first time and they are really cheerful and nice too!
Super friendly staff, quick service, and fun atmosphere!
Great place here in Portland to grab some rolled ice cream- which has vegan options too!
The ice cream was good but we waited over 30 mins just to order and there was only 2 people ahead of us.
Delicious ice cream with vegan options. Looking for a smaller option? Select menu items are available in a kids size.
visit for the first time while travling to the USA. it was so delicious and good ! wish we have it in my country. the show is fabulous too. very friendly workers and nice american
Friendly staff, nerdy vibe. Very tasty, and a cool experience, if a bit gimmicky. Very accommodating for any kind of allergy.
super cold ice cream with a dizzying array of options. The whole experience gets a bit confusing so you have to have time and patience?
Great experience at this place plus they have great ice cream. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
This is definitely a unique experience. the Ice cream is delicious and they have a lot of good options.
Sweet little bubble tea shop with icecream and puffle style waffle. What's not to love! Go for the Okinawa tea!
I got the New York Style Cheesecake and it was amazing but they messed up my cousins order but it was okay
Love that this place have vegan options as well as no sugar option for tea. It does tend to be a bit crowded on a hot day or after a game.
This place was sooooo great, the line however was pretty long. 10/10 recommend, especially the rolled campfire (chocolate, marshmallow, with gram cracker)!
It was really cool to watch them make the ice cream rolls and it was delicious 😋 👌 …
I reccomend the mangonada, Its really good, But if youre there for ice cream then get your favorite flavors, play some pool or something
Fun place, tasty ice cream! They have dairy free and vegan options!
Good Ice cream but served by two teens who said all of 3 words and looked like theyd rather be anywhere else
Great selection of boba and some adventurous rolled ice cream flavors.
This was just spectacular! Both the ice cream and the experience. Stop reading this and go to 22 below!
I was thinking this was just a gimmick but it's not! What a difference! I ordered a pinha colada. It was the best I have ever had.
Ice cream is really tastefull, great selection, but a little to crowded.
Awesome rolled ice cream. Had the pretzel carmel and salt... to die for!
New concept in portland for an ice cream in shape of rolls... good taste and a large variety of options to choose from.
This place is awesome! I'm sorry I haven't found it till now. The word needs to get out more about it. My kids loved it
Ice cream was okay. The way they make it is kind of a gimmick. It's not the creamiest ice cream I've ever had.
the 2 employees, one with white and the other with yellow, were extremely nice, they fed my dog too😃 …
Amazing flavors of ice cream made instantly in front of you! Delicious Boba tea too!
Used a group on here person was super helpful and informative about the menu suggested some really great items for first time visitors.
Awesome green tea monster!!
Good job guys! Seriously delicious salted caramel ice cream. 5⭐ for sure!
Really cool place. The ice cream was absolutely delicious!
Cute little spot. Lots of flavors to choose from. Plus bubble tea!!
Very good ice cream but there needs to be an exit it gets wayyy too cramped.
Good. Very creative idea where they create ice cream, but they roll it up.
I never tried ice cream rolls but I am going to try it some day, hopefully🤞 …
Ice Cream is delicious. Just a bit of a wait, but it is worth it!
This place was awesome wish there was one in Beaverton closer to me. Definitely a fun place to go on a date night.
Just okay, had to try at least once.
Rolled icecream pretty frickin cool oh and great service.
Very good and entertaining to watch our ice cream being made.
Big portion of really good ice cream for not a lot of money!!!
Great service, and had fun watching the guy make our icecreams
The kids got a real kick out of 22 Below! What a fun concept and well worth the visit!
The decor is a little um…
Was super crowded when I went. Good options and good ice cream.
super good food and really fun to watch them make it!
Great icecream, enjoy viewing the icecream making and boba tra
