Awesome little place, what they have done with the space is amazing. A series of tiny home structures where each individual one is a different business. All put together with a welcoming court yard. Across from Novel Ice cream is a tap house that has a great selection of drinks. The whole atmosphere is amazing. An amazing experience and concept all around.

Great ice cream selections with unique flavors. Must try when you visit Phoenix. The only downside is the long line, but definitely worth it. I tried their butter pecan, so smooth and creamy. I also tried their honey lavender, not a fan of it since the lavender is a little strong. But it might work for those who love lavender. I might try another flavor next time. But butter pecan is highly recommended!

This is one of the best places I’ve been to EVER. It tasted AMAZING. I didn’t get the ice cream but my friend did, and they thought it’s so delicious, I got the mango sorbet and it tasted so refreshing in the summer heat. The donut was so delectable, one of the best donuts I’ve tasted as well. And the mango sorbet tasted so NATURAL, it was one of the best “mango-flavored” items I’ve had in this country. Definitely worth the visit, this is one of the best dessert shop in the country! They 4 of the flavors every once in a while, I’m so happy I got to taste their mango sorbet 🤗

We came here for our anniversary and got the dough melt with bourbon vanilla caramel crunch ice cream and Cookie Crisp around the outside. It was SO good. If you’re gonna go, definitely get their famous dough melt! The only thing I would have hoped for differently is a little more creative ice cream flavors. They were pretty simple like strawberry, vanilla, chocolate.

The handheld dessert sensation, donut bun stuffed with handcrafted artisan ice cream is available in 12 flavors with rotating selection and vegan options. They use brand name cereal as the toppings! I got it with coffee ice cream and Cap' N' Crunch and found it excellent in taste and portion size. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is walking distance for locals but even contains a small parking lot. This would be great to return with friends in the cool months with the patio. I came out at 12:30pm in the middle of a heat wave because I'm a psycho but it is quick to eat and get back inside.

First, not a big ice cream fan. Hot crispy donut cut in half with ice cream and crunch berries, Yes! Just the right amount of all the ingredients and satisfied the after dinner sweet cravings. I went for vanilla ice cream with a sweeter topping, worked for me but they have several great flavors and toppings, be sure to bring someone so you can share!

I got Hawaiian Delight with sprinkles in a donut. Really good!! I will say that the donut does almost cover the flavor of the ice cream in this case. Next time I'll try just the ice cream. They make their own ice cream in small batches, so they can run out of popular flavors. Enjoy!!

Another discovery while researching for ice cream shops in downtown, have literally never seen a place with five stars on over 900 reviews. I was curious about the place and wanted to try out what the hype was all about. The shop is located in a very cute area, there are other stores as well novel ice cream is a nice pink color small shop in the group. You were greeted by a very friendly staff, given that this was our first time at the ice cream place explained the different options and also the dough Melt. Based on the information provided the place has one a number of awards for their ice creams as well as donut ice cream. Fun I wanted to try the Dough Melt and went with a recommendation on ice cream, it lived up to the hype was delicious and was gone in less than 90 seconds. Really enjoyed the warm exterior of the donut with the cold ice cream and the crisps in the middle giving it a burst of flavors and textures in every bite. Overall really unique experience and we absolutely enjoyed it. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for an ice cream place in downtown Phoenix to try it out.

The gentleman taking our order kindly apologized for the long wait and asked questions to know our interest. I couldn't decide between the chocolate and strawberry so I chose mini scoops of both. I've NEVER had strawberry ice cream this good. It's made with fresh strawberries. It was so delicious and the service was stellar! Many thanks for this excellent treat!

Listen I live in Italy and have been the past 4 years. So please trust me when I say this ice cream is amazing I am grateful enough to eat Italian gelato whenever I please but I still think of Novel. I have been here three times and it never disappoints. I go out of my way every single time I am in Phoenix to come here. 10/10 recommend the Cookie Monster and honey lavender is to die for.

I went on a Friday night around 9. It was super busy. The line was long. The vibes were great. Music in the courtyard area. There’s a brewery next door and a burger vendor. So plenty to do in that little area. Back to the ice cream. The people working the front had a great attitude and were patient despite the long line. I got a donut ice cream sandwich and it was was amazing. The ratio of ice cream to donut was on point and tasted great together. I also got a flight of ice cream, which I think was very worth the price to explore their flavors. All of it was amazing. One recommendation is to have a description of their permanent ice cream flavors in display that way people don’t have to ask what flavor is such such ice cream.

Did the Leslie Knope with the Bourbon Caramel Toffee Crunch and wholly moly if I can give this place 6 stars!! It's tucked away in a corner near a bar and tattoo joint. I wasn't in the mood for ice cream last night but went for it after the Suns game. I mean that combination of warm waffles with tat smooth, creamy ice cream was soooo good! Add some Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top and it's a solid win!! Parking is limited so you may drive around for a minute but soooo worth it!

Absolutely amazing. The dough melt was so delicious. The ice cream flavors are delicious and creative. The honey lavender…wow. The bourbon toffee caramel crunch, and everything else is 10/10. The girl up front was a SWEETHEART. I forgot her name :/ but she was the best. I was so impressed that I walked back and got some more ice cream to take back home to freeze to eat later tonight. And behind me a family of 3 drove back after having had them earlier in the day. MUST try. I will fly back for this.

Amazing ice cream! Quality products and friendly staff. I will say that their classic chocolate and vanilla flavors are worth a try. Some of their featured flavors can be a bit sweet, but the classics don’t disappoint. Definitely try one in their warm, made to order waffles!

Both this place, and the Mesa location, are outstanding! But I mean, it's just ice cream, right? Tons of places in the valley have great ice cream. What separates Novel from the others is the donut ice cream sandwich. It's as deliciously decadent as it sounds. Plenty of rotating flavors keep the choices coming. Long line but worth the wait. I had the donut ice cream with butter pecan. Insanely good. My kids had Cookie Monster with the donuts and my daughter added Oreos to hers. Hubby had just vanilla and the donut. There was no evidence of us having anything when we got done. Girl at the window was very nice and explained things to us as it was our first time there. We will be going back. Good dessert and good people are always a plus!

The treats at Novel were great. An ice cream sandwich with a glazed donut for the "bread", I'm happy to tell you it was great! The staff was amazing. They seemed to genuinely enjoy the "job", if you can even call it that. I got a chance to speak with the owner, who was hard at work in the lab. Great experience in an eclectic little area.

Oh my gosh. My husband and I took a Sunday drive down from north Phoenix just to come here. First, I love the fun patio and colorful chairs and glider under a large shaded canopy. The young lady at the window, where patrons are directed to order, was very friendly, and explained their menu of handcrafted ice creams. I chose the infamous doughmelt. A lightly glazed donut, opened up and stuffed with ice cream. I chose butter pecan. Wow. Slightly warmed donut, cool and scrumptious ice cream, served in wax paper and napkins. The ice cream was creamy, and not overly so. Plenty of pecans to crunch on. They must have toasted the nuts before mixing in with the ice cream because they had a delicious flavor. It was better than a traditional ice cream sandwich. My husband ordered a scoop of choco taco ice cream in a cup, and it was served with a little stroopwaffle. We both enjoyed our choices, sitting under that large canopy on the colorful patio. I highly recommend Novel Ice Cream. We will be back. Thank you!

It's been awhile since I took a good walk down the street and stumbled across this golden egg. If you haven't been before, your missing out. Novel Ice Cream is by far one of the best places I've been to, and the food is pretty sweet. I walked away with a Vanilla Ice Cream Donut filled with Reeses Puffs. *chefs kiss* This made my night!

The owner I believe he is is super nice and friendly and their ice cream is always delicious especially with the donut. After my experience here, every time I visit Phoenix I will make sure I stop by for their ice cream stuffed doughnut. This place is for sure 5/5 rating. Great customer service and they are willing to back up their product. The cashier recommended their famous doughnut ice cream and was willing to exchange me for another item had I not liked it. Needless to say, I was tempted to go for seconds.

This is my favorite ice cream place in Arizona! They rotate their selection of ice cream occasionally. They have a couple different sorbet flavors which are perfect for vegans and lactose intolerants. Their staff is friendly and always helpful! Parking is a little tough during busy hours. Overall, it's always a great experience!

The ice cream is great. But the donut ice cream melt is a must-have here. There is something about the combination of the donut, the ice cream, and a crunchy topping that will get you hooked. Don't pass up the topping. I also think a crunchy one like Captain Crunch or one of the other cereals add to the texture of the melt. The service was very friendly. We got there a few mins before opening and the lady opened the door for us anyway. She explained the menu in detail since it was our first time here. She also let us taste various ice cream before we made a decision. Both adults and kids really enjoyed our experience here.

Let me tell you, I love donuts, I love ice cream, this is heaven! The ice cream has amazing flavors, I had the butter pecan and I will say it was phenomenal. How has this brilliant ice cream idea not picked up across the country?! Ice cream on a donut, it's a simple and delicious concept, but it's the first time I've tried it. I ordered the honey lavender ice cream with Oreo crumbles with their friendly staff. I only regret is that I didn't order two of them. When we arrived, there was a small line, then the line tripled in size by the time we left... Keep in mind, it was 60° that night!

I love this place so much! The small shop packs one heck of an experience! The ice cream is delicious itself, but when it's slapped between a soft, tasty donut, it's a whole different level of taste. This popular venue has a line out the door for good reason! On a hot desert night, what better way to wrap up the evening than an ice cream stuffed donut (pb, honey, and 🥓 ice cream none the less!😋) with a layer ofcrunchy Reese’s Puff cereal (or other cereal of your choice)!!! So yummy! The location itself is pretty cool with small businesses side by side and an outdoor area to hangout. The owner, Brandon, was there scooping ice cream on a Friday night which I thought was super cool. He was extremely welcoming, offering samples and making each customer feel important, while completely unfrazzled by the line wrapping around the corner of the building outside. Totally worth the wait. Prices are reasonable. It's more than just ice cream, it’s an experience.

Now I see why there's five star reviews! Talk about a new favorite place! Reasonably priced and different flavors I've never heard of! The people here were super friendly and it's such a cute little hideaway! I will definitely be back. Today I had the donut melt which is a donut ice cream sandwich and I chose the bourbon toffee crunch ice cream with cinnamon toast crunch you will not regret it! My little boy had the Cookie monster ice cream topped with lucky charm marshmallows and he loved it. Thanks so much!

Yum!! Wanted some unique ice cream and this place fit the bill. A little busy when we went because it was first friday art walk, but the wait was perfect. The ice cream is hand crafted by the top awarded ice cream chef in this region of the country. I ordered the fat elvis (peanut butter ice cream with caramelized bananas and bacon bits) in between two waffles with a chocolate drizzle. Wow. So delicious! !! The sandwich was gone so fast. My husband ordered frosted sugar cookie ice cream in between two warm waffles with oreo cookie crumbs in between. This is the place to go for some unique and delicious treats!

Went early on a friday and it was perfect. We were behind one couple. Both of the women helping us were were very conversational in selling us the options. My boys ended up getting the donut sandwich and just a cup..the donut sounded to crazy in my 7 yr olds head. The flavors all sound way to good. The offering of tasting is a nice bonus. Usually you have to ask, but they offered each time. We havent been in a few months due the drive , but we actually will be downtown more often in the coming weeks, so we will be back more regularly

I recently went here for the first time and they had the best customer service. I am definitely coming back over and over again. This is now a new favorite place of mine that I plan to attend again in the future. It is such a lovely spot to bring friends and talk while you enjoy your ice cream on the little benches outside. This place was worth the 20 minute drive from Scottsdale! I love that this ice cream shop is unique in serving ice cream with donuts and they also have a Parks & Recreation theme! Right now you can order at the side window and they have metal tables to eat at outside (conveniently located under shade). If I am in the area, I would definitely stop by for a little snack.

Cassy? is awesome! So sweet... takes her time with each person. Made me feel welcome while visiting. Part of their motto is giving as many flavors to taste as you wish. Once you find one you like, they'll accommodate you and split flavors, put a cone in a bowl for you, etc. They welcome you back and make an effort to remember you and your name next time. The flavors are superb and they always include a little cookie with each order. So tasty!

I Googled "ice cream near me" and sought out the most unique place... Not only is the ice cream unique here, but so is the area. It's conveniently located right off Grand Ave! I loved walking in to the cute lil courtyard. Its so colorful and inviting. I ordered the dough melt with cookie butter ice cream, topped with cinnamon toast crunch. I fell on love. I must say this place is pretty amazing the staff was very friendly and accommodating. It’s nice to walk into an establishment where the people behind the counter love what they do, not to mention the ice cream is to die for! Even though this place had 4.9 stars, I was skeptical. How could an ice cream shop be THAT good? However, I was pleasantly surprised!! I went with another person and we split The Indecision, which comes with 5 flavours, and we decided upon the Madagascar vanilla, mango sorbet, bourbon toffee, chocolate, and honey lavender. Everything was amazing! I don't really like floral flavours, but the honey lavender didn't have that soapy taste that some overly strong florals have. The chocolate reminded me of Swenson's sticky chewy chocolate in San Francisco, and was super chocolatey! And the vanilla was fantastic as well. We enjoyed everything! Definitely coming back the next time we're in Phoenix :)

I found the ice cream to be too sweet. My friend loved it. The flavors are random based on attitude of ice cream makers so don't expect normal flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. I am updating this after the owners reply. I asked eBay flavors they had beside what was posted and was told those are the flavors. The Madagascar vanilla was too sweete for me

Le boyfriend and I visited this fresh new establishment over their recent grand opening weekend. Wasn't quite sure what to expect since this isn't typical retail space, so for those who are just as confused as I was: Novel Ice Cream is a small red cottage in the shared complex of the ThirdSpace art collective, next to other cottages that house (if memory serves) a boutique shop, barber, tattoo shop, all behind ThirdSpace "proper," which is a bar and cafe. It's a cozy little multi-leveled area, with parking available along Grand or 11th Avenue. Anyway, Novel itself was a gem, with very friendly and personable staff. Very tasty ice cream with some unique flavors, and VERY tasty and unique donut sandwiches. "Wait, donut sandwiches" you say? Yeah, they serve up ice cream stuffed inside of warm donuts. Just when you thought you were getting your jiggly love handles under control, the owners at Novel were like, "Nah man. Desserts WITHIN desserts." Boyfriend got the Marshmallow Sundae with Lucky Charms Marshmallows, I got the Honey Lavender with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. 10/10 would get jiggly love handles again.

Hidden in an eclectic hodge podge of buildings, they have a tiny parking lot (7 spaces). Very friendly staff who believes in 'informed ice cream decisions,' so sample away! We still couldn't decide though, so got the 'indecision' flight with Fat Elvis, Cookies & Cream, Butter Pecan, Lavender Honey, and Bourbon Caramel Toffee Crunch. All the flavors we're so so good, it's hard to even narrow it down to 5 flavors. Excellent in every way!

I had seen pictures of their ice cream doughnut sandwich and had to give it a try. The dessert was sooo delicious!! The staff gives you a good and detailed description of each ice cream flavor. You can sample each of the unique flavors that they sale. I had the red velvet and chocolate in a glazed doughnut. Both ice cream flavors tasted different than you regular chocolate flavors. Can't wait to take some friends here!!

Such an amazing find! Nestled in a little beer garden, we found them from their "stuffed donuts" sign on the street. Firstly, I must say their ice creams are absolutely extraordinary - all HANDMADE artisan ice creams. But to then out it inside of a delicious hot donut, add crunchy cereal and panini press it... OMG it's the perfect dessert. I had their bourbon caramel ice cream with cinnamon toast crunch in a donut (have to recommend this!!), And my fiance got cookie monster with vanilla with cookie crisp.

I went to this place and I wasn't sure what to expect. There is a little house that you walk into and then you see a selection of ice cream. I ordered the chocolate ice cream as a donut sandwich and it was incredible. It was so much better than I expected. I was able to top it with cereal marshmallows which was the best topping I've ever had. Want to taste their ice creams? Each ice cream has a cute little description that they will tell you about. They are award winning and 100% worth it.

Finding a parking spot was difficult but worth it. Even waiting in line to enter the tiny shack was enjoyable. People, presumably regulars, chatted about their favorite flavors. My son got a scoop of bourbon caramel toffee with Golden Grahams and I chose a scoop of Irish Car Bomb with a bit of chocolate Guinness syrup in a donut. It was absolutely delicious! Will definitely frequent this shop to see what handmade flavors they come up with next.

The future has arrived and now you don't need to decide between ice cream or a donut. Novel offers the Dough Melt. This place could be considered the Chino Bandido of desserts. The staff is great and very welcoming. So here is my impression of my Dough Melt experience... The Donut: The glazed fluffy donut was just warm enough to taste fresh but not melt the ice cream too quickly. My wife loved it. The Ice Cream: This artisan ice cream comes in many different and unique flavors. I went with the Mochachinno. The taste was good but not over powering. I did not notice any espresso flavor which I understood to be present. The Dough Melt: I was really looking forward to trying this heavenly dessert but was a bit disappointed. The combo, of course, is a gimmick that sounds wonderful; but in the real world, the donut flavor came through a bit strong for my taste. I wasn't able to necessarily decipher the ice cream from the donut on most of the bites. The donut wasn't overly glazed, it was just that the ice cream was such a mild flavor. I will definitely be back but this time I will jump at the chance of getting a bowl of ice cream w/ toppings. The donut was just a transport device that I just don't need.

The actual ice cream wasn’t superb. However, the overall experience was great. For one, the staff was very friendly and accommodating to answer my questions (I’m sure it helped that they just opened on a Tuesday afternoon). Plus, they had a lot of “novel” flavors and experiences. I had trouble deciding, so I opted for two scoops (they’re pretty small, so you probably need two anyways XD). I went for cinnamon horchata and tamarind sorbet (the fact that one was a sorbet helps eliminate the guilt of getting two scoops, right?). I certainly liked the opportunity to try funky flavors that I wouldn’t be able to acquire elsewhere. Price is about comparable to what you would find elsewhere

Before I review the actual product I have a story, be very careful of going to this location late at night, while they are open late. This is a very sketchy neighborhood, after getting Ice Cream with my friends we got robbed at gunpoint heading to our cars, and according to police, it's not the first time this happens. Regardless we came back to the shop after our phones were taken and these people are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life, they gave us free waters and allowed us to use their phones to contact police and our family and were super involved in the situation. Never have I felt to be cared for by any business owner like this. I firmly believe these people has the best customer service I have experienced in a very long time. The ice cream was great, the dough melt and ice cream flavors were super delicious. I had no idea vanilla could taste so good. I would love to come back but my fear of the area would keep me from doing so. If they ever relocate I'll definitely have to come back.

We were visiting from Tucson and I wanted ice cream. I found this place on Google and saw all the 5 star reviews. We went on a Friday at 9:30 pm and waited about 40 mins in line. WORTH EVERY MINUTE. I had my doubts because we rarely both give a place an “A” or 5 stars but holy cow this place deserves it. Our kids had the one scoop, the strawberry flavor was amazing and we each had donut filled. I thought it would be too sweet but that warm donut and that ice cream was perfection! I’m already planning our next trip to Phoenix just for this place. YES, they are that good! Only suggestion is to have menus posted so you can see them before you get to the window. That would speed things up, especially for 1st timers. Or even have paper menus available.

First time visiting this tasty joint with family. I had butter pecan and chocolate for my kiddos. My husband had the fat Elvis. Honestly, they were incredibly delicious. Friendly staff too which I appreciate customer service. The iceceam was creamy, super fresh and rich flavor. We will definitely be returning.

Where it is: almost hidden in the back corner of an old westy artsy-rusty-chic cluster of local small businesses that included a pub and Novel ice cream place and and. ..anyway they are wrapped around a shared courtyard with couches and boardgames and benches and trees and a feeling of not being in Phoenix anymore... I dont know if they are a thing but I felt like I needed a raspberry cider ice cream float so I bought my pint of cider from the pub then crossed the courtyard to the window of Novel to buy the other half. The girls were very accommodating and sweet and I loved them instantly. I heard them enthusiastically describing their unique menu to others - fried ice cream inside donuts made specifically I think for frying ice cream; they will tell it better. I can only tell you I loved every second I spent there and every sweet spoonful and fizzy sip.

This place is great. They have a few flavors that are staples and then they'll have a couple rotating ice cream flavors and a couple rotating sorbet flavors. The guys that own it are super friendly. They have a chef that makes all of their ice cream and she does an amazing job. The ice cream is like a really creamy (high fat content) consistency and they have lots of toppings or you can have them stuff a warm donut with ice cream. The line can be long at night, but it's worth it. The parking situation is kinda hectic but that's to be expected downtown. I really can't recommend this place enough.

Having worked in a professional kitchen and spun at least 100 containers of ice cream I can say with confidence that this is some of the finest. I got the bourbon toffee and oh my G-d. They put it in a donut which was also exceptional and rolled it and cinnamon toast crunch. I think this is the most pleasurable thing you can have while keeping her clothes on. Delicious ice cream with unique flavors. Some stay consistent and then there are rotating flavors. I appreciate the vegan sorbet options available and how creamy they are, even without dairy! My favorites have been the mimosa (orange juice and champagne), lemon blueberry, cantaloupe, grapefruit, and cherry pomegranate sorbets. My husband usually goes for the Elvis (peanut butter, honeyed banana, and bacon) and the bourbon caramel ice creams (the caramel in this is delicious!). I appreciated the size and price of the single scoop, because even though I might have a taste for ice cream, I never want a big hunking scoop of it that melts too quickly. If we were feeling extra sugary, we would have gotten the Dough Melt, a donut ice cream sandwich.sandwich, which is delicious. The staff were friendly, informative, and helpful and allowed for a number of tastings of the flavors. Outdoor seating is plentiful and the surrounding shops at Third Space add additional fun. They don't have a full list of daily flavors anywhere that I could find, so you would either need to call or go in person to see what is available!

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Novel. The line was a bit long, but we stood outside during the evening so it wasn’t too bad. The cashier was so sweet and enthusiastic. I’m only giving 4 stars because, despite all of the hype, I didn’t love the flavors. The texture of the ice-cream was amazing: creamy, smooth, and rich. But I didn’t feel the flavors came through as much as I wanted! I got the Cookie Monster and the Choco Taco. My friend got the Captain Crunch cereal milk, which was definitely my favorite. I will definitely try Novel again!

The Honey Lavender was amazing- lightly sweet, delicately layered flavors. Wonderful! The Buttered Pecan is insanely great!! My daughter had the warmed ice cream-stuffed donut and after she finished ( rather quickly and quite enthusiastically I might add) she said " Mom, let's come back here tomorrow!!" As we are only visiting here for two more days, Novel Ice Cream is definitely on our itinerary now. The two women who served us where so kind and so happy to tell us anything we wanted to know about their amazing ice cream. I find it hard to give out 5-star ratings since I believe these should be reserved for the BEST food of the category with the BEST service. This place earned it, though. This was a wonderful experience. Here's my breakdown: Ice cream: Having participated in a food development competition in my undergrad involving ice cream, I can say that this ice cream is deluxe. The flavors are so amazingly balanced. For example, their honey-lavender ice cream manages to have that delicate honey flavor come through and not overpower it with lavender, which could easily make the ice cream taste like soap if overdone. They nailed the flavor though. Their vanilla is also fantastic, which is essential since it is the base for most of the other flavors. I love how they blended multiple kinds of vanilla in order to make a truly special vanilla-flavor. Donut: Their donuts are specifically formulated by them in order to complement--not detract--from their ice cream. I really don't like donuts in general either, but these are an exception. They were fried amazingly well so that they don't have any oily flavor. There isn't really any glaze in this case either, so that they don't over-sweeten your palate. Well done on these. Service: The employees were enthusiastic about their craft, which I loved. They were sincere and attentive without being overly friendly. I really appreciated their patience with my indecisiveness as well, and they actually offered a really good recommendation for a cereal mix-in that I ended up loving. They basically said it's a good idea to put cereal with the ice cream instead of mixing in caramel because the crunch adds nice contrast to the soft ice cream and donut. I wholeheartedly agree. I highly recommend Novel Ice Cream. Remember, it's just ice cream, so it probably won't change your life or anything. Maybe. But it's dang good ice cream!

The best ice cream place I have ever been to! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place till now, but trust me I have been coming here every chance I get. This is a small store but with some award winning flavors. Brandon is extremely nice and makes his customers feel super welcome. He takes his time to explain all the flavors while being patient as everyone gets to try the flavors. The ice cream itself is so creamy and on the thicker side, so it just feels and tastes so much better than any other "slow-churned" ice cream at the store. They have rotational flavors as well, but their award winning vanilla and butter pecan are some of the best of those flavors I have ever had, ever. Everything about these flavors taste authentic and real, and there is no other way to describe the flavors other than to try them yourselves. I will keep coming here whenever I am in the area and this place is there. I have yet to find a place that is as welcoming and amazing as this place, and I really think this shop brought back the ice cream loving child in me.

Worth the hype and worth the wait. Hands down some of the best ice cream I've had! We stayed in Scottsdale for two nights and made the 20 min drive into PHX every night to this place. This place is AMAZING! From the moment we walked up we were greeted by Branden (I believe that's what I heard, mask tend to muffle sound). He gave us the run down on the menu and ingredients. We had their honey lavender, cookie monster, and a dough melt (a warmed up donut stuffed with ice cream). Their flavors will not disappoint. One of my favorite ice cream experiences of all time! After a night out with friends, my hubby, daughter and I decided to visit Novel Ice Cream. The shop is so tiny that you can only fit 4-5 folks in there at a time, so everyone else awkwardly waits outside. It was well worth the wait as their honey lavender ice cream was the most amazing I've ever had! My hubby decided to get their signature donut + ice cream combo, but it was too much for my tastebuds. My daughter got one of their signature flavors with an assortment of cereal toppings and didn't speak the entire way home because she was so happy with her dessert. How have I not left a review yet??? I've been coming to this shop for nearly 2 years now, it's my favorite place in all of Phoenix. The owner (Brandon) is the nicest and most genuine person I've ever met, and the same goes for each employee I've had the pleasure of chatting with. Brandon and his night staff always remembers me even though I'm only in every 1-2 months, and I know I'm not the only one. They truly care about what they get to do and the joy they spread. Service aside- THIS ICE CREAM THO. They have the best and most unique rotating flavors. I love that they bring back seasonal favorites but it's always something new. They let you try samples and tell you all about each flavor as if they've made a dating profile for each one of them. I've never tried one I didn't like. They also always have 2 sorbets on rotation, so if you've got some sensitivities, you're safe. The donuts for the dough melts (donut ice cream sandwiches) aren't sickly sweet, so they're not as overwhelming as they sound. I'm moving soon, but I'm leaving Phoenix with some of my best memories being on their porch and sharing their sweets with loved ones. I can't wait to come back and visit, if only to have another perfect scoop and a smile from everyone behind the counter. Thanks Novel ❤

First time visit as we booked our stay in downtown Phoenix. Small shop with a constant line of 15 or 20 on this particular holiday Saturday night. I ordered the “Dough Melt” Cookie Monster. It’s a warm glazed doughnut with 2 scoops of blue ice cream(my choice of how many) and I topped it off with captain crunch berries. When I say this was THE BEST, I’m not exaggerating... I had to fight myself to not buy a second one before we left! This is a must try dessert spot even if you have to make a drive!! WE WILL BE BACK!

Honestly some of the greatest ice cream in the world. The owners remember their customers and are welcoming to anyone new. Their flavors are unique and exciting, and change seasonally. I came to this place because I searched “best desserts in Phoenix” and was surprised to see this one have over 100 reviews on Yelp, all of which were 5 stars. I couldn’t believe it and had to try it for myself. I loved the location and surrounding shops. The cashier, Brandon, was very sweet to all the customers and genuinely cared about what they had to say - not just to make small talk. He explained to me that all their ice cream is made in house, small batch, by a resident ice cream maker with 30 years of experience. I tried a few flavors and decided to go with a scoop of honey lavender in a waffle cone (I would have loved Cookie Monster, but couldn’t have a blue mouth while in a meeting haha). I am so glad I found this place and will recommend to anyone I know going to Phoenix.

Handmade ice cream stuffed between two halves of a warm glazed donut was like a taste of heaven! Not only was the treat divine, but the service was awesome as well. The owner told us briefly the story of the shop, and he and the other woman asked where we were from as well as our names... and remembered them when we left! They let us eat inside even though there's no seating since no one else was in there when we ordered and it was cool, dark, and rainy outside. I don't think I've ever put a tip in a tip jar at a counter-serve place, but I did tonight! Super impressed with the whole place. You've got to check them out! Tucked away in a little house with a series of other assorted shops off historic Grand Ave., the owners work diligently to give the best experience for each and every person that walks through the door. You can sample each and every flavor they have (around 12 in all, but they're handcrafted by a master ice cream maker), and their top seller is the Dough Melt; a warm doughnut with cold ice cream and your choice of topping to be added if you so choose. The staff was amazing and the flavors tasted great as well! The atmosphere is kind of rough since it's right next to a bar and tattoo shop but everyon there is nice. I loved how the donut and ice cream fit together, like a perfect sandwich. My problem was just the weight of the dough melt. It felt very heavy in my stomach and I felt bad after eating it. Its till was great but that was my only problem.

We ordered the waffle sandwich with honey lavender ice cream and fruity pebbles cereal inside....TO DIE FOR. I thought it couldn't get any better, but the moment I chomped down on our second order (donut sandwhich with butter pecan ice cream & cinnamon toast crunch cereal inside) I couldn't stop my eyes from rolling back in pure bliss. We wanted to end Prom night with some ice cream, and there were only 2 places open so we decided to take a shot in the dark and go for this, and what an amazing decision it was! The owners are such fantastic charasmiatic people, they really care about their customers! At about 11:30 a man had come in and asked for a donut (they are amazing by the way) and the owner said that he felt that they weren't up to his standards and didn't want to make him pay for it, after that he also got the man's contact info and told him he would not be paying next time he showed up, and to top it all off he then offered to go out and get fresh donuts for this one guy at 11:45 completely for free. That shows so much about the character of these nice people, I will definitely be coming here again! Another wonderful thing about this small shop is that the flavors are so rich and unique, I have never found an ice cream shop that has sold Honey Lavender and it was the best thing I had tasted all week! What can I add that the rest of the five star reviews didn’t? The ice cream here is phenomenal. The honey lavender is what keeps me coming back but there is always some other seasonal flavor that blows my mind. Every time I go I wonder why I waited so long in between (and I’m not a huge sweets person). This past summer we vacationed to Seattle and Portland and I was so excited to try the hyped up “salt and straw” shops for there lavender (obviously that’s my thing) an It was so incredible I thought its the best I’ve ever had. After Having been back to novel last night and having theirs again,I can safely say it’s actually my favorite of all time. As a small business owner myself I love supporting them and their location in the grand ave arts district! Hopefully my kids and i will become regulars from now on.

This place is a best kept secret! Gourmet ice creams, served in very tasty ways! How about an ice cream sandwich made from a doughnut!?! Set in a charming little 'strip mall' that look almost like tiny homes! The chef who has created this frozen delight has done very well! I am lactose intolerant, but because of the special way this ice cream is made, I did not take Lactaid, and I did not get sick. My lactose intolerant son who normally will always turn it down, drug me here saying I had to try it! The shop is staffed with delightful and educated staff. They know their product!

5 star service and 5 star product - you can try as many as you'd like (and as a regular appreciate their approval in my indulgence) But with that said, Friday nights and weekends are going to be a long wait. Also if you're new it is cool to let a group be inside and just chill outside so they can keep the door closed and keep out any flies and also allow the guests to have the full experience that I am sure you would love as well. If you don't order the dough melt, you're doing it wrong. Update (5/5/20): Through the entirety of the Covid-19 pandemic, the owners have been in the store, continuing to sell the best ice cream in AZ. They have also been on social media, constantly, providing a positive message to the community. What more could you want. Also, I previously stated that if you didn't get a doughmelt, that you were doing it wrong. Apparently, I may have been doing it wrong because the Leslie Knope (an ice cream sandwich made with fresh waffles) is magical.

We had Chocolate, Madagascar Vanilla, Honey Lavander, Nothing But Strawberry, and Chocolate Cherry Pistachi. Marissa made you feel right at home the moment we walked in offering us unlimited samples saying they believed in making “educated decisions”. We each tried the donut with ice cream, which they press in a griddle- carmelizing the icing on the donut. I tried the bourbon English toffee and my daughter had the fat Elvis (I think it’s chocotate/peanut butter with bacon). They have a nice selection and trust me on this, you don’t want too many choices because they are all wonderful! Other notable choices on the day we went were old fashioned snickerdoodle and honey lavender. This place is a must try!

Last night my son took my to this unique ice cream parlor. I live in east Mesa so it was at least a 30 minute drive to the destination which is in downtown Phoenix. When we arrive at 1st it looked as if parking was going to be a problem. We ended up parking on Grand Avenue. This seems to be the closest parking especially if it is busy. The place is tiny. It is adjacent to a bar that had live music playing. When you enter the place you are literally standing in front of the ice cream freezer. Not much room! However, you are greeted with a smile and great customer service. I was asked to take my time and do some taste testing. My son recommended the most popular choice which was 2 scoops loaded into a glazed donut with 1 topping. I chose the blue monster and the bourbon toffee crunch. I added reeses cereal for my 1 topping. Then they toast it together. The price was around 6 dollars with tax. We sat outside in a little area that seats maybe 15 to 20 people. When I took my 1st bite it was like an explosion of flavor between the ice cream, donut and cereal. Truly a magical surprise to the mouth. I highly recommend.

Went on a day of pouring rain and they willingly offered to let us chill inside given that they only have patio seating. Delicious Ice Cream! I had the Fat Elvis in a donut. You HAVE to get the donut instead of a cup or a cone - Its biodegradably delicious! ;) They change their flavors every so often to keep you coming back. They also have tons of breakfast cereal mixins like reeses puffs and Lucky Charm Marshmellows! Please do yourself a favor and support local!

Let me start by saying I’m 9 months pregnant and due any day...Tonight I had a random craving for a warm donut with ice cream on top. My husband laughed and said I would have to invent that because he didn’t think it existed. I googled exactly that “warm donut with ice cream” and the skies opened up and and heaven sent down this amazing little shop! We drove 20 minutes to get here and after having it I would have driven twice that far. It’s a good thing I didn’t find this place sooner in my pregnancy or else I’d be the size of a whale, but dangit it’d be happy. I had a warm glazed donut with peanut butter and jelly ice cream and captain crunch for the topping....yes, that. Just. Happened.

A cute little local spot. A little difficult to find at first, but if you go during the dat it's much more accessable and easier to find parking. Definitely worth how hidden it is though. The best ice cream I've experienced and the employees and owner are very helpful and welcoming. The butterbeer flavor was especially good. Highly recommend.

I So love this place, I swear by the Southern style Butter pecan, you can have it three ways, ala cart, in a specialty made warmed Donut, or a waffle. I go Donut Everytime so I can't attest for the others. Fantastic fantastic ice cream, fantastic owner. A must try for Phoenix.

Stopped in after eating at third space while waiting for my mechanic to look over my vehicle. Hands down, the best ice cream I have had in the Phoenix area. Put it in a doughnut, and it's just heavenly. I don't know how they make a profit selling the ice cream doughnuts for $5, but I almost felt bad only paying that much. Luckily for us all, it is an ice cream that provides your taste buds with experiences worthy of love songs. The flavors as everlasting as American Freedom. The only thing Lady Gaga loves more than Bradley Cooper is novel ice cream. Bradley Cooper happily partakes in that delicious love triangle. From the doughnuts to the Leslie Knope inspired waffles and new delicious ice cream flavors every day, there is something for every human and dog to enjoy.
