Reviews of Kaisers Grateful Bean Cafe
Fancy some home-made ice cream and classic music from a Seeburg jukebox? Visit Kaisers for a taste of the 1910s with original floor and ceiling tiles. Nestled in the bustling Midtown District and conveniently near a street car stop, this is a great dessert stop after a meal at nearby restaurants. They are currently looking for cook/s so that they can start serving food again.
Old Fashioned Ice Cream Sodas and Egg Creams (NY and PA thing), sundaes, all made with homemade ice cream. The place has been around since 1910! Super clean, original decor, they even make bread. Apparently they will reopen their kitchen as well. Even the ancient juke box works. Open Noon to 6pm Tuesday thru Saturday. This place is the real deal.
One of the only places you can get an ice cream soda in the city! I have been going here since I was a kid and it's always great. Their seasonal ice cream flavors are always good. This place is a true Okc staple
It was ok. It was rather slow when we got there at around noon on a weekday, surprisingly. The host was friendly. The parking situation is not the greatest. It's in downtown, heavy traffic because of the location of proximal businesses. Otherwise, food cost was very reasonable and served quickly. No issues.
Just enjoyed a delicious brownie a la mode at Kaisers. My wife and I were on the lookout for a dessert, and we couldn't have been happier landing at Kaisers.
Not sure how long it will be available but try tue jalapeno ice cream!
This place... If you haven't been here yet you need to get here! I grew up with this space being Kaiser's Ice Cream, watched it close and be empty only to reopen years later (my son actually worked here then!), Only to watch it close again. It is now the Grateful Bean and it is AMAZING. This is one of the best hamburgers I have ever had, hands down. The waitstaff is friendly and fast. The burger was juicy and just the right size. And those wedge fries are BAKED! I will definitely be back.
I tried the homemade salted caramel and it was absolutely delicious!! My friend tried the Irish Cream AMD he loved it... I did too. They were both delicious. Our servers name was Kim. She was very sweet and friendly. She told us about the history of the shop and some of the cool things they offer seasonally. I will definitely be going back soon... next time I'll wait till it's a little warmer 😉 or I will wear a sweater lol cant wait to go back!!
Oh wow. What a place! Truly a step back in time! Had a scoop of salted caramel and one of French chocolate! Truly sinful! A true gem. You just dont see places like this any more! Do yourself a favor and check them out when you're in Oklahoma City!
Wonderful customer service. The staff was very friendly and kind. They were eager to help and guide throughout. The food i got wasn't my favorite but the ice cream and desserts were fantastic. Overall great place to eat
This was such a great experience. Live music every Saturday for lunch playing classics. The staff brought around fresh, warm samples of pie for us to try. We had lunch and home-made ice cream that was great. The whole atmosphere felt like I was on vacation and relaxed.
Off the hook. Best shake I have experienced in half a century. Thought the art of making good shakes had been lost forever. Thanks for new memories of long ago.
My father told me about this place all the time when was a kid but this was the first time I remember going there. So much fun to go to a historical ice cream parlor!
Not currently serving food, just their yummy ice cream and creations. (They are working towards reopening the grill!) Since no lunch, we walked across the street to McNellie’s Public House and split a delicious hamburger before returning to Kaiser’s. When told the price, it was 1/2 of what I figured! She said it was good we went for lunch and came back because it was now “happy hour” 1-2 pm & 1/2 price ice cream!
It was yummy!! There was some quiet live music making a nice visit to Kaiser’s!
Friendly, hand made ice cream, and special flavors, we had the lavender ice cream and it was amazingly delicious.
The City's legend continues. An amazing selection of handmade Sodas, Sundaes, Banana Splits and other delights that make for the stuff of memories. Enjoy!
This place has the best Buffalo burgers! And the Shakes are phenomenal!!!! Worth a trip!!!
Fun to eat there. Great ice cream and arguably the best burger I've had in a long time. Kaisers is amazing.
Beautiful historic landmark. Food was great. The Brown Cow ice cream soda was the icing on the cake for me tho.
Historic Cafe. Nice waitress. Loved everything I ordered.
What a neat location, very, very hot inside, took incredibly long to get just scoops of ice cream. Staff lacks personality. It could be such a neat old time place if they'd make the effort to make it more enjoyable for their customers.
Its soooo yummy!!! Best home made ice cream.. great food.. happy staff... live music... great vibes... two enthusiastic thumps up
Loved the burger and Black Cow float. Cool music too. They were playing classic Ritchie Valens.
They have the BEST shakes/malts. They are a bit pricey though ($6.50 for a Regular Chocolate Malt (about 16 oz. Cup)). The staff is very attentive and customer conscious while practicing Social distancing. I will definitely be back...
This business is legitimately a class act! We were in from out of town looking for a place to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The owner went over and above to make it a very special, and memorable experience for all. Can't say enough about the wonderful service, the homemade ice cream, and great food! We'll be going back again tomorrow!!
The servers were so sweet. I brought my grandson in as they were closing. We talked about his OKC experience. Since he loves root beer floats they made him one and said it was on the house and made him feel very special with a Kaiser’s hat❣️
I am so excited that Kaiser's Ice Cream has gone back to a more original look. We visited one time when it was the Grateful Bean, which was not the right fit. Our burger was very good and the malt was wonderful. We ate outside - nice.
Why 3 stars? White plastic glasses. You have to have old fashioned coke glass! No ketchup, just packets. They never came out and checked on us. We carried our own plates back in. It cost two people $23 to eat a burger and shake. You have to have some service. We will probably go back for ice cream! Glad it is back.
My family and I tried out Kaiser's for the first time on Saturday and we loved it! We went there for dessert and I must say the Chocolate Nirvana was amazing! It is definitely enough for 2 (or 3?) people to share. Also, my daughter had a single dip of their homemade strawberry/blueberry ice cream and she really enjoyed it as well.
Aside from the ice cream the old ice cream parlor ambiance really adds to the whole experience!
Fresh, unpretentious, well prepared food in a historic setting.
I'll be candid -- my very first experience there was less than stellar. (That said, in all fairness, the place had just opened weeks before.) I gave them a second chance and am very, very glad I did.
I'm especially fond of the bison burger and sweet potato fries. The root vegetable slaw is another personal favorite. I'm not a big ice cream fanatic, so I probably wouldn't be the one to ask about the ice cream there.
Don't go in expecting a $5.00 burger -- you won't find it on the menu. That said, the burgers here are definitely a cut above. You get what you pay for, IMHO.
So my son is autistic and very demanding sometimes with no boundaries :) The ladies here were awesome with my son ! It is wonderful to see the patience in people towards special needs people. I highly recommend this place for it's great tasting old fashioned ice cream and scenery. And its exceptional service!
I have always loved Kaiser's. They have some amazing food and the prices are pretty reasonable. They have fresh baked goods, great meats, wonderful buffalo burgers, tasty drinks and then there is the ice cream...
It is hard not to order the buffalo burger every time I go there, but they have so many other great options I like to spread the love. The reuben, the club, the chicken salad and the soups are all amazing. Make sure and grab some sweet potato fries with that.
They make some stellar ice cream treats. There is a smell of fresh baked waffle cones that hits you as soon as you walk in. They are delicious. Try one. My favorite ice cream treat is the salted caramel malt. Wow.
They used to serve liquor and beer with their soda fountain concoctions. For some reason that has stopped... This place would be unstoppable if they would just get their liquor license back. It isn't that big of deal. Just get it and serve the most unique treats in Oklahoma.
Absolutely hands down the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. Its all hand made and I reccomend the coffee ice cream. The inside is decorated with vintage pictures and its really nice. They have a bar and if you want to taste the ice cream before you get it they have free samples.
Great homemade ice cream, floats & sorbets & a wonderful turn if the century building. Still has the original counter. The stained glass is a bit more modern, but still beautiful! Service was great. Will definitely come here again, & again,...& again!!!
This is some of the best ice cream in Oklahoma City. However, the kitchen can move extremely slow with hot food orders and makes mistakes frequently. So, I would stick to the frozen treats, unless you don't mind waiting 20 minutes for a cheeseburger with no cheese.
I’m writing this review on behalf of my 7 year old son. This is his favorite place! The retro decor and jukebox definitely make it a unique spot. The staff is always kind and my son always looks forward to the homemade ice cream!
My mom and I, who are black, are from out of town and decided to try this place out. We noticed from the point of entering the establishment that we were not truly welcomed because for one we were not greeted nor shown any hospitality; however, we noticed that everyone else that entered after us who were all white customers were greeted with a smile and beyond. The entire time we were there we were given not so friendly looks from the staff members. The only reason why I'm giving this place 3 stars is because despite the terrible customer service the food was really good. I ordered the salmon burger with fries and my mom ordered the chicken quesadillas and it was all delicious. The ice cream was okay but nothing to brag about. The only homemade ice cream they had was salted caramel and my mom enjoyed that but no other ice cream flavors were homemade which makes their sign outside very misleading. Overall, good food and horrible service..
What good ice cream! RIGHT IN THE STORE!!
Great old school Ice cream parlor. The floor the counter and ceiling are 102 years old. Home made Ice cream and whip cream. They have food as well ,but we just had ice cream. Great even on a cold winter day!!! A touch pricey, but it an experience.
For over 20 years, this has been one of my favorite spots in OKC. It's like walking into a time capsule. Still make real cream sodas that are amazing! I went out on a limb and go the Mediterranean sampler which was delicious and more than I could finish. Definitely worth a try!
Ice cream is wonderful. I'm not sure it really is a Kaiser brand. I went to the original store over 40 years ago. Parking is a real problem. Don't forget to play the oldies juke box....free!!
Awesome! All the veggies are fresh, it feels nice to sit and watch the hustle and bustle of Midtown. The food was amazing. The staff was kind and helpful, and my experience was all that I could have asked for. Will definitely be coming again.
Like stepping back in time! Great ice cream and great service.
It was so nice to find a vegetarian friendly restaurant within walking distance from our midtown lodging. I had the vegetarian Rueben and it was awesome! I was only able to eat half a sandwich and half the equally awesome potato salad...so I hope the staff didn't think I didn't like it!! Too much food is a good problem. I will definitely try to recreate the sandwich at home and I'd love to try more off the menu if I return to OKC!
Take a step back in time at Kaiser’s in Midtown OKC. The building is historic and the inside tells a story via pictures, the bar seating, and architecture. I had the salted caramel ice cream and it tasted like someone just finished cranking it in a old ice cream machine...fresh, soft, and delectable! The only mishaps we’ve had is the hours, check and double check the hours before you go to experience delicious homemade ice cream.
This place is a gem. Old school ice cream parlor. The restaurant was not cooking due to employee shortage, but the ice cream was great and the service top notch!
The Grateful Bean offers good, wholesome food. It tastes fresh and home-cooked because it is. The place also gives jobs to homeless and low income folks who are down on their luck. The service can be a little spotty because you might get a "waiter-in-training", but it leans to overly involved service vs. inattentive service.
I like the Indian Tacos, but the menu is diverse. Although I have never had one, the ice cream sundaes and the drinks from the soda fountain are tempting!
It use to be my favorite place to eat corn beef ruben it was the best.everything is fresh homemade daily and I love that fact. Ice cream is homemade too i am sad because the kitchen is closing 😥 …
This place was awesome! They food was great, the ice cream looked amazing, but we were too full to try any. I loved the decor and the bathroom was so cute. This was a great place all around!
Wow, I am shocked at some of these scathing reviews! Kaiser's, in my experience is no less than delicious and fun. Their burgers are awesome (not dry at all, full of flavor), try the Juicy Lucy stuffed with gorgonzola or the Smokehouse. Heck, they're all good. Their sweet frites (sweet potato fries) are the best I've ever had. Even when it comes to their sides, nothing is typical. The Mac 'N Cheese is an uber yummy gourmet baked version with breadcrumbs and all white cheeses. Their soups (which usually change daily) are all made in small batches and very yummy. Of course, you can't skip on dessert here, you just can't! The nirvana gets all the hype, and sure, it's good-- but I always get one of their custom flavors that change all the time. Rum raisin, fresh mint, red velvet, salted caramel! You can get them as sundaes, in waffle cone bowls, with toppings, even between cookies! Bottom line, it's a super fun experience at a great spot that you can't duplicate anywhere else. If anyone has a bad experience here, it must be because they are a tiny place with a huge heart and taste, which means the line is almost always out the door.
Yesterday was a awesome day! Had French Chocolate and sprinkles icecream while my Boyfriend had peaches and cream and sprinkles... both flavors were very yummy
Ate for late lunch, loved the soup and may or may not have bitten my lunch mates sandwich.... :/ I'm addicted to restaurants that serve quickly and this one did just that!
Wife and grandkids had a great time and “the best sundaes and shakes we’ve ever had” according to my wife and grandson. Can’t wait for our next trip to Kaiser’s!
Cute place with good service. However, the ice cream was mediocre tasting and the prices were too high making it not a good value. If you want good ice cream in Oklahoma City go to Roxy's in the plaza District.
Great place that gives back to our less fortunate community
Bisson burger was hot and yummie. The carribian chicken & dumplings were super tasting, then we assed the Spice they brought, Wow..just went up 3 levels of flavor. People very friendly. Please come and visit them.
I would say this place is great jist had the Buffalo Burger and it was super good price is a little over the top but it's worth it.
Even the drinks taste different in the best way possible.
Highly recommend this place.
Amazing atmosphere and ice cream and etc is soooo good but has to be for the price, but you can't blame them with the prices.
Such a cute place to have dinner or even a shake! Classic dining experience. I ordered the Juicy Lucy and it was amazing! We all enjoyed our food and the experience.
My creative firm orders from Kaiser's Grateful Bean several times a month. We all love their food, especially their burgers and the vegetarian Rueben. Their staff is so sweet!
Kaiser's is an old-world hamburger shop, with relaxed, friendly, helpful staff. Your food is only cooked when you order it, so this is not your 1-min fast food joint. Enjoy the
40's decore, order something you have never tried before and relax. Burgers are great, not "fast food". Staff is young but attentive. Desserts were great. Will be going back each time we are in OKC.
Super place! Glad it reopened. It is also called Kaisers Grateful Bean. Homemade ice cream, sandwiches, real soda fountain. The hot fudge sundae is named after my Mom - Hyla!
Wonderful retro atmosphere with delicious burgers and homemade ice cream in their milkshakes. We live in Tulsa, but always have to make a stop here when we're in OKC.
Use to be my first wait stuff job amazing ice cream and food. Use to enjoy making fresh soda by hand among shakes melts mad cows varies things favorite dish is sundeas or mountaint brownie dish made with carmel at bottom fudge chocolate browie 3 or 4 scoop of ice cream carmel fundge cherry sauce whip and cherry cool place
The best place for hanging out with family and friends, Great home made ice cream and best place for Buffalo Burger and shakes, me and my family love it especially Saturdays wen this couples played piano and. Sing oldies songs,❤️
The service is outstanding and personal, the Saturday afternoon music is terrific, and the food was delicious! The ice cream is a standout as well. Make it a point to visit!
This is my favorite diner in okc by far. When my boyfriend and i were still high school besties we would always drive to kaisers for a rockin buffalo burger and a chocolate nirvana sundae<3 This place definitely provided some of the best memories for us. Also this diner is super cute c:
Great icecream and service here, will revisit soon.
Has definitely changed for the better over the years. Love their shakes. Price for normal menue is a little high but not too bad. staff is super nice too
I thought my portion was small, but it was pretty tasty. Try the salted caramel, and cotton candy sorbet. The mango was a little less flavorful than expected.
I respect the history which is why I gave 3 stars, but my red velvet ice cream was icy and tasted really bad and nothing like red velvet. A friend got vanilla and that was okay. I was disappointed.
Still making fresh, tasty burgers, tender roasted pastrami, and some of the tastiest black and brown cows in the city. We enjoyed it!
Great lil place with great homemade ice cream. Strongly recommend the strawberry shortcake sunday.
8ce cream and a limited meal option in a historic place convenient to downtown and St Anthony Medical Center. Great option for a quick meal. Ice cream all hand made and delicious.
Best place for ice cream.
Been coming here for years. Love the sodas - the "black and white" is well worth the drive. And the staff is super friendly.
Staff was confused, took way longer than it should to get food at lunch. Got wrong order first. When it was corrected, the food was amazing! I'd love to eat here again, but is it worth the hassle?
Pokestop. Good burgers, and the home made ice cream was really enjoyable. I goofed my order (my fault) and they were very understanding and helpful with fixing my mistake.
Pineapple cake ice cream 🍦 yes …
This is one of the most decadent treats I've ever eaten. Can see why they've been open since 1910
Really good homemade ice cream and one scoop is soooooo much - could barely hold it, it was so heavy! Also really friendly, attentive service.
Great place to have a good meal relax and have fun.
I got Homemade Irish Cream ice cream and it was good. Nice "Mom and Pop" shop. There was even live entertainment.
Great place. Try any of the sundaes or shakes. You will remember it because they are that good.
Visited Kaiser's Grateful Bean Cafe today.
A must stop when in OkCity.
Head Cook Leatha and assistant cook Mike
Puts out a 5 Star Buger/Fries.
This establishment began in the very early 1900s.
And carries the cool old fashion look and atmospere
Still today.
Over a 100 years of 1 of the best stops in Oklahoma City.
TY for your excellent service
I only wish I were allowed to work while being forced to take pictures of "eateries" the midst of trafficking.
The interior is fabulous. Step back into 1910. They also have a nice cup of coffee with free refills.
Nice ice cream shop with good flavor options.
Visited recently and wasn't as impressed in past years. It definitely has lost a bit of it's sparkle. However the workers were very kind and the service was nice.
Love the atmosphere great restaurant been an OKC Landmark since 1910. Decent food a bit pricey awesome hand made ice cream
We loved the food and ice cream. The service was great. Very friendly and safe.
Terrific! Great service, nice atmosphere. French fries are great & the homemade cream soda is yummy.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff! I just wish there were more flavors available when I visited.
The employees present were gracious, friendly, courteous and helpful. I encourage everyone to eat at Kaiser's as the food is good and service very good!
Decor gives the vibe of a classic soda fountain, which is fun, but the food is average. Not my choice place to eat around this area.
This place has original food and homemade ice cream that makes you guess why you buy commercial anything. Great time with live music!
Great food, great ice cream, great family atmosphere with possibly the largest red lawn chair in the world that offers an awesome photo opportunity !
Love the old-fashioned feel of this place, they had live music for lunch the Saturday I was here. Buffalo burger was awesome!
Amazing service great food and nice staff., the live band was also amazing, I would definitely recommend going if you haven't I will definitely be going back soon.

It's very good it's reliable friendly respectful place
Delicious hand made shakes and ice cream sodas keep me coming back, but the hot food is worth staying for.
Yum! Friendly staff! Fun place!
I don't know how old their grill is but this was the best cheeseburger I've had in years.
Great burgers! Pretty cool environment, fries were a little bland but still a great place

STUFFED
Folks, the food is above par, the entire staff are unbelievably good at their job and happy to make your visit enjoyable.
Fun soda shop. Prices on facebook are wrong but the experience was worth the difference.
Fun atmosphere. The ice cream had an icy texture, not a creamy texture
The girls had a great time with the juke box and enjoyed their ice cream sodas

Wonderful experience today, spending time with grandkids, topped it off with kaiser's delicious ice cream
Love the place it was my first time the ice cream was awesome
The ice cream here is amazing, though I do recommend sticking with the ice cream only.
Cool nostalgic atmosphere and really yummy homemade ice-cream and burgers.
Yummy hot fudge sundae in an old time soda fountain atmosphere, fun!
Best home made ice creams in town and also carries historical value..
I wasn't impressed with the food, but the old school cream soda was pretty neat.
Great place for the whole family to enjoy homemade ice cream and good music
Menu is a little bizarre. I believe they are trying to cater to the vegan crowd. Not what it was 20 years ago.
Great Place for Lunch. Their turkey Club and Tortilla Soup is amazing.
Good service. Great food. This place is definitely on my A list.
Great food, great atmosphere, decent prices. Love the specials

We decided to try this place out and the kitchen closed at like 5pm (website said it was open until 7pm) so we didn’t get the full experience. On the fence if we will return. Seemed like a cute little gem.
This place is amazing! Renee and Michelle were amazing and made my first experience here memorable and special. Homemade ice cream is incredible and delicious with unique flavors that they are happy to let you sample. The best part is the real soda fountain bar - I had a coke float and it was just like they used to make at the soda counter when I was a kid. The history of this place is also amazing and the employees are happy to share it with you if you ask. Thank you for making my trip to see my bestie so memorable!
