Reviews of Taiyaki NYC
Ron Khoury
In short,
If you like soft-serve, you’re gona “melt” for this ice cream.
With a bit more detail,
Tiny shop but clean and makes it very easy for whoever is not familiar with this style/type of ice cream to order.
Needless to say it was delicious, but what was the most impressive was not the ice cream itself, but the fish cone. Soo good. At the bottom it becomes like a pancake so adding the melting ice cream makes it a very yummy treat. Come get some.
Kelly Xue
This is one of my favorite ice creams spots! Their ice creams are so deliciously sweet and creamy. Their fish waffle cone is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. There’s red bean paste at the bottom of the cone and it’s just amazingly good. Go try it out for yourself!
Alicia Davila
I went here to try the ice cream bc it looks so cute in the fish waffle cone. I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular but OMG the vanilla was sooo incredibly good! I will come here on the regular for it.. the place is small and can easily be missed but it’s such amazing ice cream!
Sonia Mae
I was invited to an event here and I didn’t know what to expect. These ice cream fish cones are too good to be true: delicious and cute! I was overwhelmed with the flavors because I wanted to try them all. The ice cream specialist offered samples to try various soft serve flavors and explained how each tasted. It was a plus to have the staff be knowledgable because certain days you are in the mood for something sweet, tarty or chocolate-y. I ordered the Straight Outta Japan, a matcha and hojicha ice cream swirl, simple yet packed with a bang. I was debating between that one and the Unicorn Tyaika, but opted for a simpler version. This means I am definitely come back to stay cool for the next coming summer months. I am so happy I chose such the swirl because it was delicious! It wasn’t too sweet at all and the surprise at the end is the read bean as you take the bite out of the fish cone. What a fun combination of matcha, hojicha and red bean. The accruements of rainbow mocha and wafer stick was icing on the cake.

One of my favorite spots to visit every time I visit Chinatown! Glad to see it survived the pandemic.
This small but mighty spot is the perfect place to enjoy something sweet and feel like you are truly enjoying a little slice of Asian culture. I always try something new when I go but the consistently delicious freshly baked fish shaped cones are warm and satisfying regardless of what toppings are inside.
Worth a stop to take the day or treat yourself when you want a pick me up, rain or shine.

Great spot for a quick snack. I came here before and I really want to try the fluffy pancakes to be able to give a full review. Overall the taiyaki are nice, but a little overpriced. You pay almost $10 for a machine made ice cream on top of a fish shaped waffle. Good looking, but the flavour and texture isn’t so worth it in my opinion.
I would recommend trying it. The fish is very cute

Looks amazing and tastes amazing!
The mango and strawberry ice cream has beautiful fruity flavors and the taiyaki has red beans in it at the bottom. Just lovely.
Connie Kwok
The photo opportunity is 5 stars and as expected, overhyped. A $9 fluffy fish cone is fresh, fun and yummy - but it is filled with just OK, average, tasting soft serve ice cream, flavors and toppings. Visited on an empty day. I would not waste time time in line here. If you're looking for high quality gourmet ice cream or gelato, best to go elsewhere.
Kimberly Nava Eggett
So delicious and the person taking our order was super sweet as we tried decide what we wanted. It was our first Taiyaki experience and we loved it! Warm cone with red bean paste filling was delicious with the matcha soft serve. The place wasn't too busy so we were able to eat it indoors, which was necessary since it's so hot out that the soft serve would melt quickly.
Emily Sforza
Cute for the novelty. Decent ice cream - the green tea ice cream was good, but the vanilla wasn’t creamy and didn’t have much flavor. The cone had a custard filling too. Tasted good enough for the price but probably wouldn’t get it more than once.
Maryam M
Delicious ice cream with a twist. Nice to try something new and creative! Loved the fish shaped cone 👌 I do wish it had its own space outside or even a bit more space inside to enjoy it though instead of just eating it on the street. …

2018Mar. The Easter weekend. The staff kept the line moving and there we so many flavors and ways to have this wonderful Japanese ice cream experience. Not a long wait. The trip from MD to NYC was well worth it. You’ll be glad you stopped in. Check it out!!
Jessica Wong
I have been coming here ever since they opened and it will always hold a special place in my heart. The ice cream and desserts and sweets they serve are always absolutely amazing. The taiyaki is made fresh and the ice cream is so good. In these pictures are the mango strawberry and matcha hojicha, as well as an ube slush, and all of them were so delectable and so yummy. It’s also so colorful and I love how you can choose your own toppings. I just wish there was a proper seating area.
Regan
I was looking forward to visiting after finding the place online and it did not disappoint! The ice cream is delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was my first time trying the red bean paste and it was soo good! I would happily visit again.
Muskan Punani
The best ice cream I’ve ever had seriously! It’s more than just an ice cream, they even have warm custard/red bean paste filling at the bottom which is the best part. Loved it and highly recommend it.
Francisco Tovar
Soft-serve Japanese magic! This ice cream tastes delicious, super flavorful and not heavy. Give this spot a try and you’ll definitely be back and you’ll bring someone to share this great dessert
MK
I got the simple taiyaki with custard filling, it was just as you would expect! Good texture, hot, sweet but not overpowering custard. Nice staff, I saw ice cream orders and they are so pretty
Melissa Naja
Delicious! Is a word that was popping up in my head. There are long line but moves fast . I got Green tea match and oreo topping. it was fun eating ice cream and waffle is still crispy outside and soft inside.
Fengfenggg gg
It’s my favorite spot in Manhattan to get Matcha Ice cream!!!! I love this place!!!!! If you are in Manhattan, you like matcha, red bean, you like ice cream make sure you visit this place!!!!!
ja hkam marip
Too good to bè deliciousness.. mangoes and strawberries.. ice cream.. every layer I’m enjoyed.. the red beans bottom layer that was amazingly delicious.
Elad Strohmayer
The ice cream itself is vey regular. Don’t get me wrong, it’s delicious, but it’s eventually a soft serve… but the cone… that was a yummy surprise. Totally worth it!
Blair Shultz
Great soft ice cream served in a redbean or custard filled taiyaki cone! Went here after dinner and shared one amongst 3 of us and it was great! I definitely plan on coming back somewhat regularly for ice cream.
M. Spassiani
Really amazing ice cream! The cookie bottom its served it, makes the experience, it's like fried dough from the state fair meets vanilla heaven!
cindy
great japanese ice cream on a hot day. The ice cream cone equivalent of the taiyaki is the perfect mix of a cone and cake. It’s very soft and sweet. They offer a variety of shapes of the cake cone. You can customize your ice cream to your liking, and it’s super photogenic
Megan Wilcox
Really fun cone - you have to get the fish one, it's the main reason to come here! I ordered the unicorn cone for fun, and really enjoyed the ice cream treat on a super hot day. The unicorn ears/horn actually tasted good, and the fish cone is amazing. I especially liked the bottom area of the cone. It was really fun carrying around and eating it, and it was also very filling. The staff are very nice as well. I was a little surprised by the inside of the store, it's very clean and modern and not necessarily what I was expecting from Chinatown.
karin nekosennin
Taiyaki is famous for its fish-shaped Japanese waffle that is chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It’s absolutely delicious. It is a fish-shaped cake, made of batter that resembles waffle batter.
Isabelle Lengeling
The matcha ice cream was really good and the dough of the taiyaki was very crisp. The red bean filling could have had a bit less sugar and instead more red bean flavour. The service was friendly.
Yvette Von Loh
Best soft serve ice cream I've had in a while. Ordered their build your own (photo attached). Long line but efficient staff so it went by quick.
Christina Luo
Fun idea, delicious soft serve and delicious taiyaki! I knew about this concept since many years ago when I saw their booth at a food bazaar somewhere in mid/uptown but their line was insanely long and I never got to try it. after so long, finally got around to getting some and it’s very good! I tried the matcha/hojicha soft serve and my friend got the strawberry/mango one. They ice cream flavors are very good, esp the tea ones! It’s not overwhelmingly sweet. The taikyaki pancake is good too, and the red beans are inside the bottom of the taikyaki. They also sell mochi doughnuts which are also quite delicious. I love the chewy texture. Would recommend you try this place if you’re in the area!

Making me melt
@taiyakinyc has a few locations around the city, and they have another here in Chicsgo @taiyakichicago . I was able to snag this cone a few years ago in Bryant Park when they had a pop up tent. They were only serving a few options at the pop up and I got to try one of their signatures - the matcha ice cream in a red bean taiyaki cone with strawberry drizzle, rainbow mochi, and a wafer stick. Definitely an Instagram worthy treat!
Chris G
Hour and 20 mins wait for airy pancakes that were gone in less than 3mins.
As far as the pancakes being worth it. I’d give it a 8 out of 10.
If I did it again I’d just add two more pancakes to the order for it to be worth wild.
Eric Finkelstein
Unicorn taiyaki - Those first few bites at the top were delicious, among my favorite bites of any ice cream ever. I should've asked what those pieces in it actually were. I'm rounding this review up to 5 stars for that. The base was also satisfying, and seemed more freshly made than when I had a similar dessert at BBF.
Mochi donuts - I tried the black sesame and oreo dream. Both tasted fresh. I appreciated that they tasted distinctly different. Personally preferred the oreo flavor.
I tried buying the donuts with cash and was told it's card only, which surprised me.
T C
The ice cream is super creamy but a bit too sweet and the taiyaki shell is very crispy. If I have to be picky, I didn't like that the red bean is at the bottom, wish there was some inside the ice cream.
Nafesa Siddique
I have way too many good things to say about this place. We got a Matcha in Roasted matcha taiyaki ice cream. The ice cream was sooo delicious. I also got a matcha iced latte and it was so delicious very very authentic matcha taste. Only con that I have is that my iced matcha latte had few chunks of matcha that tasted very bitter!🤍🍵 …
Alex Nguyen
I love taiyaki and this place is a great place to grab it! The soft serve flavor was delicious and the taiyaki itself was cooked great and went to well with the red bean.
aniket dharmik
One of the best icecream in NYC. Very nice presentation of the cone. Staff is super nice. I tried the match green tea unicorn in fish cone and chocolate vanilla in bear cone. Mochi Donuts are also top notch. Overall great experience.
Alicia Chhin
This taiyaki and ice cream shop is well worth the trek into Chinatown. I got the #4 taiyaki ice cream with a swirl of matcha and genmaicha ice cream. It was obviously made in-store, creamy, and delicious. Also makes for a great picture!
Rachna Dherwani
The order came up so quickly! And the staff was so friendly! I ordered the unicorn Taiyaki, it was delicious and definitely the best dessert in chinatown NYC!!
Trilochan Hiremath
Very cute!! This was a great way to end the night after we had dinner. The presentation was adorable and the matcha ice cream we ordered was very smooth and tasted great. The bean paste filled fish "cone" was amazing and fun take on a traditional ice cream cone. The pricing was reasonable and overall I recommend the experience.
Kimiko
Absolutely delicious and creamy ice cream! Really liked the hojicha and matcha mix rather than the just hojicha one since the hojicha is a bit on the bitter side. They don’t sell individual taiyakis on the weekend though :(
Carly Valencia
I like the ice cream, it was really delicious but , the taiyaki was just good; I didn’t like it that much because the Taro inside the cone wasn’t really good. You can’t dine in but, you have a little chair outside to take your ice cream.
E P
As mentioned, it's a very instagram worthy place! Combination of Ice cream and taiyaki was great. I had the matcha & hojicha ice cream, yum!
Santosh Shetty
Ice creams are good. Strawberry Mango is my favorite but I like Matcha as well. The red bean paste in the end with the fish cone and a bit of ice cream is my favorites. Vibes are cool
Orkida Kaloshi
Very good ice-cream texture. Employees were very nice & friendly. I tried their 'Famous matcha Japan ice-cream'. If you like matcha, you will love this ice cream, if you don't, then don't order it. Order another flavor... They have a variety of flavors to choose from. The cone was yummy!
Carrie Lucía
THE BEST MANGO ICE CREAM I'VE EVER TRIED 😍 I got an "beach, please" taiyaki, and was really delicious. 100% recommend 😌 …
Maite Rojas
Fluffy, soft and delicious, I loved it!! They had many options from were to chose, and it took less than 5 minutes to get my order. They weren't accepting cash though.
Chris Lee
Went here for the first time on Sunday and I loved it! There was no line and the ice cream came out quickly. We got the matcha and hojicha swirl topped with rainbow sprinkles and mochi in a Rilakkuma cone. It was adorable and tasted great. Stop by if you’re in Chinatown—it’s a great place to pick up some dessert.
Mysta_G
Amazing absolutely amazing. Their ice cream is fantastic and their staple taiyaki with ice cream is definitely worth the visit!!! Their staff was super friendly and quick service as well. I highly recommend you stop by if you get hit by that sweet tooth craving. 100% planning to go again soon and try more flavors!
Cordell Taylor
Everything was top of the line from the customer service to the food itself. I had the matcha and classic pancakes, which are only available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 2 PM, as well as one of the unicorn ice creams with a red bean taiyaki. Saw it on Food Insider, it not only lived up to the hype, but exceeded it.
Benoît
Delicious!
I went to try the pancakes, took the classic ice cream, so I'll have to visit again.
The cone is delicious, wafle like.
Yhe ice cream isnt overly sweet and the oreo powder gives a nice flavour.
If you pass near by, give this place a try!
official gigi
I was there at 12:05 I had maybe over 100 orders ahead of me I didn't get my order until 2:45 so be sure to be early if you want pancakes but you'll wait a very long time...They are so popular on social media that viral video makes you want to give it a try they had non stop lines and ran out of pancakes so they stopped taking orders at 2:30 whoever was before then got lucky to get an order. It was definitely worth it . Just pay and go look around. I give it to the workers for working so hard to try and get those orders done. Very patient and understanding. Good job to them for handling such a high volume of customers in a small tight space. They definitely need to open more places and bigger.
Schadrac Laventure
I had the fluffy pancakes and it was good but it will take a while for them to make it on your order. Don’t be discouraged by the line outside, everyone usually gets ice cream and there is a separate line for cash.
A V
Took my niece and friend to this place 2 months ago. The best and delicious Japanese dessert. Will go back.
Serge K
Cute hidden bakery. We ordered an ice cream and monster donut. Ice cream was very average, you can find better elsewhere. Only you but it for a instagram picture.
Donut was delicious and I will definitely will return for it again
Service was very fast and friendly
NYCBuddha
The ice cream is always great here and it was perfect on a hot day like today
The fish shaped cone is doughy and filled w red bean paste in the bottom. It went perfectly well with this flavor.
This location on Baxter St is great as they have Spongies Cafe on one side and mochi donuts on the other. Don't go on this block if you are on a diet.
Frankie singh
Honestly I thought this place was going to be OK and all about the social media pictures. After tasting the icecream though I can honestly say this place is well worth the visit and isn't just for the cool Instagram pictures. The strawberry mango was amazingggg!! A must visit! Icecream on a fish is $8 with 1 free syrup of your choosing and 2 free toppings of your choosing.
Andrew Park
Stopped by around 9 on Monday. Kids loved the place and icecream with taiyaki. Thank you for letting them dance around.
Wildary C
Wowwwww!!!!! You would think that icecream is always the same wherever you go but NO!!!!!! It is NOT!!!
First, I LOVED my "Unicorn" icecream because to me it was very unique, first time I see someone putting in the effort to really make it look like an unicorn.
Almost didn't want to eat mine. Ha ha!
Second, the taste was incredible!! The icecream was extremely creamy, the sprinkles were DELICIOUS, the unicorn ears and horn were HEAVENLY, the combination was a sweet great one but not overwhelming, which makes it PERFECT.
The cone was something else, very crispy yet so soft!! I really liked the taste of it and the surprise it had in the bottom of the cone. I didn't really read what was on it, so came to the store and simply asked for the Unicorn Taiyaki with vanilla icecream and when it was almost over I was surprised to see it had this creamy sweet "thing" that I couldn't figure out what it was, after me and my boyfriend devoured the whole thing within less than 3 minutes I went on to read the menu and found out it was red bean... yesss, red bean on an icecream, and it was REALLY GOOD TOO!!!!!!!!!
I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!!!!!!
Violet Kitsune
I told the chef I loved her. The wait for the pancakes is long, so be sure to get there early!
Mini Kim
The soft ice cream was really good. The bottom cone part was surprisingly good. Not warm but still had a little bit of crunch and it was tasty. One had red bean in it which I love and the other chocolate one had custard in it. Really nice dessert and the ice cream and the taiyaki mix is just fantastic. I would come back for more.
Nathan MacCarter
The ice cream 'cones' are so good here - but bring extra napkins (maybe even wet wipes). Loved the custard at the bottom. My Daughter loved the unicorn cone.
Ashley Rodriguez
I have been wanting to go here for years and I just happened to be in the neighborhood, so I had to finally try it! I was not disappointed; do you see how cute this dessert is?! You’d be crazy not to want this. They had so many combinations to choose from, but I needed unicorn ice cream in my life. They also have fluffy pancakes that I’ll be going back to try!
Fabian R
The pancakes were great worth the $ and I went on a Sunday morning arrived 1050am they open 11am no line I was first which was great
tastysydney
I finally get to try this after seeing it in instagram years ago! I like the fresh taiyaki here, but I’m not a big fan of the matcha soft serve (wish that it has stronger matcha flavour! And although the soft serve doesn’t melt as quickly, texture is a little different than what I’m used to)
Jocelyn Hawtrey
Ice cream was good. The employees aren't all helpful/friendly. Some were pushy. There's a line for cash only and a line for card. But they don't let you buy everything with cash. I think it was the doughnuts that they forced you to pay by card.
Sarah Mitch
So fun! We got 4 different cones and they were all good. :)
Soe Thiha
Very Delicious Ice Cream with Variety Taste.
Barbara Brutt
This tiny, adorable shop offers quick service and a clean atmosphere. At busy times, the line goes out the door, and one of the Taiyaki workers directs the line. There's very limited seating on the inside of the shop, but during hot summer days, it's really the best option to stay inside so your soft serve doesn't melt too fast.
Overwhelmed by all the people and the new-to-me menu, I missed the part where it says that the fish-shaped waffle cone is filled with red bean curd filling. It wasn't bad, but it was a surprise to me. The second visit (yes, we went back again) I opted for custard filling, which I enjoyed more. I also ordered the classic pancakes, and those were beyond delicious.
Also, $8 for a cone is not cheap to me. But I guess, price is relative. The shop was very clean for being constantly filled with people.
Jacob Flores
Good ice cream but not incredibly unusual. Staff was super nice and gave us real suggestions. Fish cones are similar to pancake waffles. I recommend getting the custard filling over the red bean. Fun experience, family loved it.
Jacqueline Telljohann
After having Taiyaki from a different store in San Jose, we were excited to come here in New York.
We came here twice. The first time we got the unicorn specialty Taiyaki. We enjoyed it, but I have to say I was a little disappointed in their flavors. The only filling options were custard and red bean paste. The ice cream flavor options seemed more American tailored (strawberry, mango, etc).
We had heard a lot about the souflee pancakes, but we didn't realize they only have them Friday-Sunday from 11am-2pm. We came back the next day to get them.
They were amazing. The were huge fluffy pancakes. I'm not a huge pancake fan, but these light fluffy pancakes were great. I would definitely come back for these.
I think this place is definitely worth a stop while in NYC.
Amelia L
Come here if you're in the mood for a nice, refreshing summer treat. Here, they use the taiyaki (fish-shaped waffle) in lieu of a cone for your soft serve ice cream.
You can either choose from their 7 signature taiyaki soft serves or build your own. The last time I was here, I ended up choosing from their signature taiyakis, the #5 “Beach, Please” (partly because the name made me chuckle, heh). The #5 had strawberry and mango ice cream swirl, coconut flakes and was served in a custard taiyaki cone.
I absolutely loved it! Strawberry and mango are flavors that go really well together. It did not taste like traditional ice cream but more like sorbet. Very refreshing and light. And the taiyaki cone was perfect. It was obviously made fresh, was still slightly warm and had a wonderful crunchy exterior. The custard filling gave it an extra taste layer as well. I thought the overall presentation was so very cute and the result was a great dessert.
John L
This ice-cream shop is top notch with really good soft served ice-cream. You can customize it with many of their toppings. The cone melts in your mouth perfectly.
Yi
Got my first Taiyaki ever here and have absolutely no regrets! in fact, it was so good I came back the next day to get another one... this little guy is not only cute, but also scrumptious! it's around $9 for one, but it's super filling and definitely shareable! i made my own and got the custard taiyaki with hojicha + matcha swirl ice cream, condensed milk, and two mochi sticks! the ice cream had a super strong roasted tea taste and was light, fluffy/creamy (does this make sense??), and smooth, and the taiyaki was crispy and lightly chewy. The mochi was a bit hard but honestly i didn't mind it too much because the rest of the dessert was so good!! yet another dessert that isn't too sweet for me!
Jessii P
Finally got to try these! Waited on the line for about under 1 hour. So light and fluffy, very flavorful! Only $8! Much cheaper than other places here in NYC, & they were the first to bring it to NYC! Cant miss this or their unicorn floater taro bubble tea drink! Major noms!
Alon Grinshpoon
This place is so awesome! Probably the best Japanese ice cream 🍦 in NYC. 🗽 They have a wide variety of Instagram-worthy 📸 cones and flavors (matcha green tea, black sesame, and more). I wish they had more seating! …
Ashley Lau
It's nice and clean I went right around when they opened and the donuts weren't available at that time yet, going to go back at a different time for them. I got the straight outta japan taiyaki and the icecream was so good! The staff were so nice and gave ne time when the donuts would be out. Just a reminder that they usually take electronic pay and if you're going to pay with cash you should have an exact amount because the cashier might not have enough change.
Yenma Herb
Somewhat of a novelty experience, but still delicious and memorable. The waffle fish cone was the best part! Filled with custard rather than the red bean, it was warm and crunchy. The unicorn horns and ears were adorable and the sprinkles tasted like very sugary. The ice cream itself was delicious and complemented the cone well. I wish I was hungry enough to have both pancakes and ice cream because the pancakes looked extra fluffy and yummy!
Sporadic Travels
Taiyaki NYC has been on my to try list for roughly a year and I finally made it there last night! I was not disappointed!
I had the Matcha Better and my kids customized their orders. One has choco vanilla swirl with caramel, crushed Oreos and a wafer stick in a red bean taiyaki, and the other had a cup with chocolate ice cream, 🍫 drizzle, a wafer stick and crushed Oreos. The ice cream is SO creamy and the Taiyaki is warm, filling and chewy like a waffle. The flavors matched up really well.
Yes, the price is a bit high for the portion size. However with that being said, it is quite filling and it is so delicious that it is worth it. Very tasty treat!
Service was easy, friendly and speedy. Shop was clean. Decor was cute and memorable. Very photo friendly environment.
***Visited again: 12/13/2020. Another hit! 5 stars! Tried the Japanese and Beach Please which is strawberry and mango swirl. Awesome!! Delicious!! 😋 😋 😋!! Kids loved the vanilla and chocolates too! Adding more pictures!
Angie P
Delicious! The fish cone is crispy, freshly made warm goodness. Their ice cream flavors are amazing! Loved that custard filling. Must try! The line moves fast so don't be scared of the line. It's totally worth the wait!
Sophia D
What a crazy fun place! I love the different options and the fun ice creams! This place is a must go if you are in New York. With an amazing location, next to little Italy and China Town, you can find so many ice cream places, but this one you must go to! I love the fish cone! What you probable can't tell from just looking at it is that it is a soft waffle cone with a surprise at the bottom. If you decide to do a "make your own" you can chose either a creme/custard bottom or a red bean filling. The ice cream is good, but I loved the cone! And the toppings are so cute! I would reccomend coming here! Small location and usually pretty busy, but totally worth it!
A K
The 2019 summer of nyc trend - go prepared to stand in line for at least 15 mins although it is well worth the wait. The service is express level. The ice cream is delicious and really fun to eat because of its cute shape. You do have to be prepared to eat it really quickly though otherwise you will have a mess on your hands. I had the matcha with a milk ice cream on a custard cone which was delicious.
One thing I liked about them was that when a customer mistakenly dropped her ice cream, they gave her a new one. That’s good service in my books.
Jacquelyn A
Super fast service. The ice cream melted pretty fast so be prepared to eat it quickly. I am not the biggest fan of soft serve but it wasn't too bad and the waffle cone was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I would come back to try a more creative flavor.
Bhargav Kesavan
My wife took me to this place two days back (04/20). I walked from City Hall subway station, it’s about 22 mins walk.
With google maps it was easy to navigate.
Ice cream being my favorite, I tried the classic vanilla on the “fish shape” cone. Co e being made with pancake it was nice to hold, it’s not the usual hard cone. Ice cream was delicious. My wife and I loved it!
E G
The Ice Cream was great. I had the Match Ice Cream with Strawberry Sauce, Sprinkles, and Hazelnut filling.
Alexandra Dékány
We went there specifically for the Japanese jiggly pancakes. We arrived about 10 mins before opening and there was a line already. They let people in the shop in smaller batches as the place itself is very small and there aren’t tables to sit down. We waited about 45 mins before we got in and tried both the original fluffy pancakes w/ butter, maple syrup and whipped cream and the matcha one too- both were equally delicious, very filling but not heavy on the stomach which is great. Can’t wait to go back to try the fish-cone ice creams as well.
Virginia Mott
Great ice cream in a super cute egg based fish cone. Melts fast as the cone is warm so eat quickly. Update: came back for the fluffy pancakes but they are only available between 11-2 and take 15 minutes to make.
J B
Small shop with so much foot traffic, it was worth the wait though. Their souffle pancakes are delicious, light and airy. If you are ever visiting China town this must be on your list of places to eat.

It's a small store and you have to watch out careful or you'll miss it. It's super cool they combine Japanese cake and ice cream together. Worth to try.

When is the best time to go to a very popular, super tiny ice cream shop? On a day that is snowing like crazy. Yup. I have been sooo wanting to go to Taiyaki NYC for a while, but I know they usually have lines, so I waited until the right moment. When the moment called "crazy snow" came, off we went. Yes we are that kinds of nuts. The place is really small, I mean, if you blink, you will pass by without realizing it.
The inside is really small, the kitchen area takes up a lot more space than the ordering and eating space. There is no table, just one wooden bench and another seating spot around the window. I say many total of six people can sit, and that is it.
We ordered Straight Outta Japan and You’re Berry Lovely. They are all at $7. The more topping you add, the higher the price is going to become. All the Taiyaki comes with two toppings, so if you want to add more, it will cost you 50 cents per topping, which is pretty cheap (until you add gazillion of toppings). The ice creams were really good and tasty, almost surprisingly good! The “filling” is inside the Taiyaki, so it is not a large amount of filling.
We also ordered their Croyaki, their version of cronut, I say. Croyaki also comes with a choice of filling, either custard or red bean. We chose custard filling. They are made to order, and took a good while for it to get ready.
I was thinking that the middle part, the fish-shaped part to be more exact, will be the regular taiyaki with pancake-type dough. However, the entire thing was made with the croissant or puff pastry dough. The filling in the inside was not very much, which was a bit disappointing.
I am happy I got to go for a visit. I enjoyed the cute, adorable ice cream, even though it was really cold that day… I would love to go back again for more of their picture perfect dessert! Read my full review of this shop and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Got there 20 mins before open...pancakes are delicious and incredibly fluffy! Loved the ice cream cone. I wish they moved faster, not sure I’d wait more than 20 minutes. The line after us was incredibly long so plan accordingly.
Candie Johnson
Ah so matcha betta!Japanese Matcha Icecream ontop of a fish shaped cone called taiyaki! The cone is filled with sweet red bean paste at the bottom! Very yummy. During this time of Covid 19, you are only able to see the menu from outside pay by the door and then given your choice of icecream flavor. Japanese icecream is a lot less sweet than American icecream. Overall veryy yummy. Highly recommend!
Fiona Lin
OMG the ice cream here is so cute! I had a great time here with my friends, just hanging out and eating our adorable ice cream. They were a bit expensive, but it's sooooo worth it! I highly recommend trying it out.

8.13.17 - Pros: Tasty flavors; spongy cake; cute snack; nice staff Cons: It's slightly pricey; the venue is tight and gets crowded quickly; $10 minimum for cards, which encourages you to get two at a time or pay in cash.
Overall, it's a good treat to have once or once in a while, but there isn't anything too surprising.
Lion King
The unicorn ice cream is pretty, can take good pictures for Instagram, the ice cream taste so so but the fish part is tasty. It melts down very quick, if taking pictures better be quick.
Mayu Kanai
Was a bit bummed that the normal taiyaki wasn’t available during weekends but the ice cream was delish! the taiyaki cone was crispy and delightful too.
Ann La
I love taiyaki so this place is heavenly. So many options to spice up your taiyaki. Definitely should put this on your list for NYC.
Melissa Cruz
Wow! Def a must try if you love matcha! I tried one of their top sellers and it was amazing! Will come back for sure. However, keep in mind that it is a ‘to go’ kind of place since there is limited sitting area and it is a tiny place.
Curtis Graham
Who doesn’t love ice cream in a fish shaped cake soft waffle textured cone? Our first visit to Taiyaki happened after a friend recommended the restaurant. The Baxter street location is so small you will almost miss it, but good things do come in small packages (or spaces) after all. The staff were very friendly and patiently tolerated all our requests to sample different flavors. What I didn’t realize was that the fish shaped cone was filled with either a custard or red bean filling. Yes, red bean. I thought this was the nastiest sounding filling, but was surprised by the sweet and palatable flavor. It had a texture much like marzipan. Do yourself a solid and stop by Taiyaki. You’ll be saying “domo arigato” all day long.
Dina Benedetto
This ice cream tastes delicious ! Not only that, but you also get a delicious ‘waffle’ tasty fish cone. While this was $8, it was completely a shareable size if you didn’t feel like eating it alone! Overall this was delicious! I’ll definitely get this again when I’m in the mood for good matcha ice cream
Lisa Wu
Don't be scared of the line in front of the store. I didn't take a long time to get through of it and people work faster than you might think. Worth it to give a try! The "fish" came out fresh (warm), which makes the ice cream melt but it is how should be eaten- fresh.
Claire Jiang
Lined up at 10:40 on a Saturday to get the new souffle pancakes and they've changed my life. The fluffiest, jiggliest pancakes with gratuitous butter and syrup, still steaming. If there's space in the shop you can also watch them flipping them, which is cool. The ice cream and taiyaki cone are also amazing.
Angela H
When worlds collide: soft serve ice cream and taiyaki! This is a wonderful gem tucked away between Little Italy and Chinatown. They serve a variety of soft serve ice cream in the taiyaki fish's mouth with a bunch of delectable toppings. There isn't much space to dine in and have your ice cream. I highly recommend this culinary delight!
Christine Li
SUCH A COOL LITTLE SHOP. There are a bunch of different things to try and I cannot wait to go back. I heard they have the best soufflé pancakes so that is next on my list of things to try. Their ice cream is so delicious and not overwhelmingly sweet. I had mango and strawberry flavored ice cream. I had a small concern at first because I’m not too keen on super sweet foods but it was perfect. Eating it can get a little messy, especially on a hot summer day, but grab a couple of napkins and you’ll be fine. The little surprise of red bean paste at the bottom of the pastry/cone is weirdly refreshing and I was excited to get to that part. One hundred percent coming back here to try more.
Experiences of Sleepy
The red bean Taiyaki cones are so delicious! They have a custard filling which melts in your mouth after you're done with your ice cream swerve on the top. truly worth a visit!
Rochile
Super crowded dessert shop. $9 unicorn taiyaki with vanilla ice cream. Average ice cream. You come here for the popular photo. Pretty desserts. Decent service. The cashier was patient taking orders and the people in the back were pretty efficient with making the orders. There was a lot of people and only a small bench area to sit.
Not sure what the horn and ears were made of, maybe a sugar but had a chewy mochi texture too, idk didnt have a flavor I could detect. the fish shape cone was warm and soft, a bread/waffle texture. Ice cream melted quicker than expected even though it wasn’t super hot out. I enjoyed the red bean filling at the bottom towards the tail. Not worth going out of the way for, but if you are in the mood for a sweet treat, go for it! They do require a $10 minimum for using cards by the way.
Elizabeth Wong
I absolutely love Taiyaki! We have to come every time we visit NYC. It's tradition. I think our favorite is the Matcha better.
Alex Guifarro
Went in to try thier pancakes with some Match on top of it and it was just a very delicious treat, although I tasty to much of the egg whites it was still a tasty treat. Will come back.
George Yamine
I was told by a friend to go here and I was not disappointed. Easily one of the memorable eating spots on my recent NY weekend. My daughter and I call it the best Ice Cream we ever had. The cone not only looks like a fish..it tastes like a cake!
Jeannie T.
Best Taiyaki cakes in the city with a red bean filling! The novelty doesn't stop there - they serve it with all different kinds of ice cream (matcha, taro, vanilla). And the toppings are fun, think sprinkles, Pocky sticks, Mochi, and cookie crumbles. The coolest part, you can order a shake or dessert cup served in their signature Unicorn Floaties!! So cute. And delicious! No gimmick here.
Ahrilia I. Skye
They make the best ice cream. It tasted soooo delicious. 10/10 I would visit again! ❤️😁 …
Flora
Fun destination! Delicious Taiyaki—ice cream in a fish-shaped waffle cone.
Small shop, but efficient.
Someday I would like to try the fish-shaped pancakes.
Haleigh S
Amazing soft serve and yummy fish cone. Highly recommend vanilla with crushed Oreos
Jana
Delicious Taiyaki which are also very „instagrammable“. Highly recommend the Matcha and Sakura Taiyaki!!
Arthur Nen (Tuka)
Tayaki wasn't super fresh, but the ice cream itself was very creamy! The red bean paste for the tayaki was awesome as well.
Not a lot of seating available, only a small bench and table outside and nothing indoors. Went there on a Saturday at 630pm and there was no line.
Staff was very friendly!
Clement Lu
Certainly a unique and innovative experience. The red-bean filled pancake with matcha ice cream creation is very aesthetic and tastes great to boot. Luckily there wasn't much of a line when we went. If you can find a time where it isn't busy I would recommend just checking it out once, but if there's a long line I would just skip it as you aren't missing out on too much. Overall a great experience, but probably not worth if you have to wait a while.
Danielle DiMaggio
Perfect pick me up snack on a hot afternoon. Super cute spot for some yummy ice cream, you won’t be disappointed!
Angelina
This is a great place to visit with friends! The staff were all so friendly and despite the long line we all got our taiyaki super fast. The ice cream was delicious, the matcha flavor is unmatched. Would definitely visit again!
Minaxi Minaxi
It was a fun & delicious experience. Tried the #4 out Japan w custard instead of red bean. The mango was tasty. The best part is it's not overly sugary.
Nathan
Got to meet Rilakkuma. The ice cream is very tasty but pricey. It's a nice treat however
Jonathan Manguba-Glover
I was looking for dessert to eat and luckily saw this place. And man did I have a blast from the past. I got the stright out of Japan and it reminded me of when I first had a taiyaki in Kyoto! Thank you for the food and the memories.
Melissa Castor
Super fun! It's nothing fancy it's ice cream but it's a nice treat and great for pics ;) They have Japanese flavors as well as standard vanilla and chocolate. Seasonal flavors also available sometimes depends on holidays!
Ally Southwood-Smith
I love this place! Their ice cream is always amazing! Personally I only get the cones or cups because I find the fish cone melts too fast, but that doesn't make the experience any less fun. Taiyaki is a must go for soft serve. I make sure to stop by whenever I am in the neighborhood, no matter how full I am!
Vanessa S.
Cute place!! Mochi donuts were awesome.
Loved the Yuzu one - so good!
Allison Gries
Cute and different! Little pricey for an overrated fishy. The kids working were very polite and did a great job!
Sushmitha Rao
Have been wanting to try this since I first read about this place in Miami.
Lives up to the expectations.
Tastes really good and has a different feel to it compared to other ice-creams.
Jose Joseph
It was wonderful although you had to eat outside because there isn’t a seating area in there but the ice cream was DELICIOUS!
George Espinal
Delicious Japanese Ice Cream. You are definitely in for a treat with their affordable waffle fish designed cones.
You won’t regret it. Highly recommend visiting and enjoying some Taiyaki.
K Whitely
The souffle pancakes served on the weekends are amazing!!! Definitely worth the time and wait. About a 15 minute wait if they aren't busy.
Christina Weng
Undeniably instagrammable, but pretty overrated. The store is really crowded once you walk in and there are dozens of children and mostly females lining up for Taiyaki NYC.
I ordered the Unicorn Taiyaki and waited maybe 5 minutes to receive my order. Aesthetic-wise, yes, it is really adorable. But if I factor in taste and size into my rating, they fall short. It is smaller than I expected and the taste is pretty average. Nothing notable (and I'm an ice cream fanatic).
This is one of those places where you just do it for the gram.
Service was prompt and friendly, so kudos for that, but would I order the unicorn Taiyaki again? Probably not.
Listen to the other reviewers who are claiming that it's overrated because it is. But if you like cute desserts, definitely give it a try!
Leah Godina
My boyfriend and I came here to try their soufflé pancakes, these pancakes were the best! There was a 30 minute wait time but they’re so worth the wait! If it was not for the wait time we would have definitely ordered more.
Mohammad Badawy
Good soft serve in a really nice cone. They have regular cones as well as bear 🐻 ones. The taiyaki (fish) can be filled with red bean or cream custard. A good array of flavors and toppings. Each taiyaki is around $8 …
Alyssa
This Japanese ice cream in Chinatown is the bomb! I ordered the Taiyaki come filled with red bean paste amd matcha ice cream. It was worth every calorie!
Yimin Zhu
Souffle pancakes sold out. Sad. Instead tried the matcha flavor. It is cute with red bean taiyaki as cone. But waffle cone is the best for ice cream. 3.5 so 4 stars
Wynne Tran
I've waited so long to try this place! Definitely worth going! Taste delicious! Pretty to look at too! I got the "Straight out of Japan" which is green tea, black sesame swirl in fish waffle stuffed with sweet red bean paste. The place is small and packed with people waiting to get the ice cream! You get your ice creams quickly 5-10min wait time! I recommend cash is quicker. Their credit line is slow and sometimes their machine doesn't read the card hence the longer wait. And just eat your ice cream outside. I didn't understand why some people like you eat inside. When everyone is like packing sardines in there!
Isabela Guillen
SO SO YUMMY I HAD TO TRY THIS AFTER FOLLOWING ON SOCIAL MEDIA FOR SEVERAL MONTHS! Such a cute ice cream and so yummy! It did melt quite quickly but other than that i recommend highly. Also beware it’s around $8 for an ice cream so i would only buy as a treat once in a while
Alexis Doto
Cute and original. It’s small but if you like cute sweets and Japanese food you will love it.
Natalie Nikolaieva
Super friendly staff and a super clean place! But there a lot of clients and a very small caffe. There is no space to seat and eat your ice cream. So, my advice :-) take your delicious ice cream with a special paper glass with a good couple of napkins and enjoy!))
Ann G
Ice cream was really good but there’s a $10 minimum for the card so I ended up spending more than I wanted to. Aside from that, I highly recommend it if you’re in the area and your sweet tooth is acting up !
bubmaria
First time in NYC and I was looking into going to Taiyaki! Omg it was so good! I got the regular Vanilla ice cream and they added some chocolate on top. I recommend it! They have so many flavors! The waffle is so soft and crunchy at the same time 😋 …
Mary Dineen
The taiyaki was prepared quickly. The ice cream was delicious and paired well with the taiyaki and the cookie straw. Super Instagram-able if you're into that!
Valerie Laub
Super cute ice cream! Totally worth waiting in line! The cones are filled with custard and the ice cream is rich and creamy! You need a photo of this on your Instagram if you’re visiting the city.
Alimuzzaman Chowdhury
Innovative concept. Icecream was okayish. Little too sweet for me but cant complain much. Staffs were friendly and service was quick. I would say its little expensive but then again its downtown. Little tiny place so not the place you can seat down. Would return again maybe. Give them a try. Worth it 🤗 …
Ju
Well worth the wait. A must try in NYC!! While this was a bit on the pricey side, it was worth it. The soft serve ice cream was delicious and the red bean Taiyaki cone is AMAZING!!! Definitely recommend coming here if you’re stopping by in New York.
Tiffany Lowe
Went only for the pancakes and did not disappoint! They were fantastic! Waiting in line was worth it. They were so good and fluffy and the little fish with the red bean in it was good too. The flow of the shop was difficult with so many people. I was happy overall but found it unprofessional to see 2 out of the 5 there texting. There were large amounts of people waiting and I just found it rude to be on your phone like that.
Glynn T
No matter what the weather: rain, heat or even SNOW every time I go to the city I HAVE to stop by and get the yummy taiyaki!!!! My all time favorite stop.. This time is their special Unicorn Taiyaki made with vanilla and strawberry ice cream, sprinkles and candy ears and horn. Exchanged the normal red bean to cream taiyaki and tasted heavenly like always
Alondra Espino
Small but cute place! Ice cream was really good and so was the actual fish cone. It melts real fast though so eat it quick. I actually got the matcha cone and it was delicious. Definitely recommend
Joshua Touriz
Delicious mochi donuts and taiyaki! There was a long line, but totally worth it. Will definitely come back to try different flavors.
Sam Melendez
My favorite place of all time, now with pancakes! Wait for the hype to die down before attempting but so worth it. Their ice cream is fantastic too, very light and fluffy!
Britsy Elyse
My ice cream was a little melted when I got it, but it was the hottest day. Lounge area to sit is nice, but can only sit about 7 people, including little ones.
The ice cream concoction itself was fabulous. I thought the horn was plastic by eyes, but it was totally edible and SOFT. Gummy-like. I felt lucky to eat here.
Jess Wan
Like the combination of soft ice cream and taiyaki. The customer service is excellent. They can give you the ice cream sample if you are not sure about the taste of the flavor. It doesn't matter what filling you choose, they are both good. It is to worth try!! I believe you will enjoy it and love it 😊 …
stan yu
Great place for dessert. The coldness of the vanilla ice cream paired well with the custard filled shell. Great place to get your basic Instagram pic
Maria Castilla
Ice cream and pancakes taste so good.
Beverly Huang
Love this place! Would highly recommend! It's a small place, easy to miss but a real gem! You might argue that its a little pricey for ice cream ($7 for that fish cone) BUT I ASSURE YOU /IT'S WORTH IT/ for the totally instagram-worthy dessert and because it tastes wonderful!
You can just get a cone or just the ice cream but if this is just a one-time thing, GET THE FAMOUS FISH CONE. They've got several great options but you can also create your own--pick your ice cream, filling, toppings, and drizzle. All of this nestled prettily in a soft fish cone--it's just the right amount for dessert.
It can get a little busy but the line moves fairly quickly.
Cash is preferred here but they might take card (my friend was able to card). Come prepared with cash
PROTIP: the matcha ice cream melts less quickly than say the chocolate or vanilla
Kaley Rector
If I could only leave you with one sentence: it lives up to the hype.
Everyone at the counter was super friendly from the moment we walked in - they gave us suggestions and offered samples if we wanted to try a flavor. Normally I would have tried one before going all in (I mean, who's had black sesame ice cream before?) but I committed to the Straight Outta Japan option and my boyfriend went with Classic.
The Straight Outta Japan is a matcha sesame swirl, red bean filling inside the fish waffle cone, mochi and a wafer. I was a little hesitant but the sesame mixed with matcha was just the perfect amount of sweet and not too sweet, and the texture of the ice cream was amazing. When I finally got to the cone, it was much more thick than I'd imagined. Then, paired with the red bean filling it was a little heavy especially after the HUGE amount of ice cream they give you. The cone was amazing though, so make sure you make it that far to try it out. The Classic is vanilla ice cream with custard filling, strawberry, wafer and chocolate drizzle. My boyfriend isn't a huge ice cream fan but he loved this.
Lastly, the presentation. I'm blown away that each and every cone this place sent out was BEAUTIFUL. Every single one is prepared to the same standard, probably because they know these things are made for Instagram.
Jesse Adams
TL;DR:
Cute, photogenic ice cream fish cones. Worth the money, if you like taking photos but tastes like generic ice cream.
In a very tiny shop down on Baxter Street you will find Taiyaki, a cozy shop that sells the most photogenic ice cream! The taste is alright but be careful of the Choco-Lit as they put coco powder on the ice cream and it's very easy to replicate the cinnamon challenge while eating this.
Elyas Obad
Best Ice cream I ever had in years! 🍨. I recomend to get the pancakes 🥞. There should be more space in the store it's kinda crowded. But I love the costumer service, its very smooth and they serve you in no time! …
Johnson Li
Ice cream over a taiyaki is super cute and if worthy. The taiyaki is on the thicker side, probably to accommodate holding the ice cream and be soggy. The taiyaki is crunchy and tasty, the red bean is great not too sweet. The ice is yummy but not outstanding. Honestly, nothing is especially special about the taste of the place, is just cute and pretty, but that may be just enough for the trip!
Jessica Lee
Custard taiyaki is good and same as the Japanese one
Robbie Frame II
Good ice cream, polite workers. The ice cream tasted good, the waffle fish part was moist yet firm and in the bottom had sweet red bean paste which was a nice touch on a fun dessert to eat.
Bernard Gomes
The fish-cone dessert is not only pleasing to the eyes, but it's just as satisfying on your taste buds. I tasted "straight outta Japan" and "matcha better" and both were perfect desserts. Even the cone tastes good. Highly recommend this place for desserts.
Koki Tanaka
I was craving for traditional taiyaki and I'm glad I found this place. It's very close to the one I was looking for and with red beans inside, it was great! The eating space is very small and when the weather is bad, it can get crowded easily. But the food quality is great and it comes out quickly. I will be back and try it with ice cream next time!
Nghia Huynh
First time New Yorkers that's around Chinatown must try this place if you're looking for one of the greatest desserts ever! Their menu is simple and makes it very easy to order. Their ice cream is very fresh and their fish waffles are absolutely delightful! They also sell jiggly cakes on the weekends at special times
Natalie Perez
I’ve been waiting to go this place for a while . And now that I got the chance it didn’t let me down . Customer service was great. Now because of COVID they try it to be in & out .Due to the small place. I 100% recommend this store .
Kenny Wong
Came here and ordered the "Matcha Better". Their matcha soft serve was really good! Strong matcha taste and very creamy but the sweetness was not too overwhelming!
Not 5 stars because the red bean filling inside the taiyaki was like the size of a half dollarand was expecting more. Also, the taiyaki was a bit dry if you were to eat it plain.
Would definitely come back for more matcha soft serve and to try their other soft serve flavors!
Cindy Nguyen
Delicious, warm & fresh, good matcha ice cream
Floyd Margallo
This place is hidden from a busy street and do not have very colorful signs so you will not know if it is a place you would like to go to. The location is small so when you come in it get can get tight depending if they are busy. The service is great and quick. Cleanliness of the place is good. The dessert was amazing after eating from Chinatown. A must to visit if you are in the area.
Henny White
The Ube (purple yam) is uniquely delicious and the taiyaki cone is soft and filled with red bean paste that is made from sweetened azuki beans. They decorate it beautifully for your enjoyment. Love this place!
Maggie S
Fantastic ice cream in a Taiyaki cone. A beautiful combination of two of my favorite things. I've wanted this for a long time now and I'm so glad this place opened up. The ice cream was delicious and you can tell they used real ingredients. The Taiyaki was also delicious and didn't get disgusting under the ice cream. It was very affordable and came with toppings. I can't wait to come again!
Charlotte Black
Awesome ice cream in such a unique way. This place is very popular and even though it was crowded service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend! Pictures show "the classic" and "the unicorn".
Ashwani Chandnani
You will always manage to find interesting joints whenever u visit NY. This one was one of those. Saw post in Instagram and had to check it out. Glad we did. Very interesting way to serve ice cream. The fish shaped cone is made of special batter and has red bean paste in end.
Personal recommendation: unicorn flavor with mochi stick
Theresa
This shop definitely has the cutest taiyaki and definitely Instagram worthy! I just wished it tasted better. The matcha and black seasame ice cream were good, but sadly the cake was subpar. I still think it's worth a try for the novelty, I don't think I'd go back sadly.
Evan Bush
So I came here looking for the cone more than anything. The ice cream was pretty good the cone however is the deal maker. It was warm and crispy with a chewy inside. Only downside I could give is it was a little pricey for ice cream but well worth it. A must try if in the area.
Hira Rizvi
Super cute! The cone has an option of custard or red bean and the custard is much better. You can make your own or try the signature ice creams. The cone is made fresh and it’s soft from the inside and crispy on the outside. It’s something different to try in little Italy!
Sarah Seol
Delicious, flavorful ice cream (I got #4 Straight out of Japan.) Taiyaki had red bean at the bottom, very enjoyable and not overly sweet. The store also sells fluffy, fluffy pancakes (ends at 2pm!)
Heather McCann
Awesome little spot for great photo ops! If you’re taking the Big Bus NYC tour, it’s just a couple blocks from the Chinatown stop. I’m so glad they had vegan iced cream (coconut flavor). The Black Sesame was also really tasty – almost like peanut butter! Service was fast and friendly. It was interesting to watch the short video on how the fish cones are made.
Aileen S
( Visited October 13, 2017 and sometime in December also when they were giving unicorn floats )
Croyaki both red bean and custard flavors) were delicious. I ended up enjoying the red bean Croyaki more and I don’t even like red beans. Had icecream from here during a buy one get one free deal, was fun to eat although seating is a bit cramped and shop gets crowded. Would go again for icecream or Croyaki. I got pumpkin flavor I believe, I didn’t really like it and cone tasted like apple spice (gross taste). The unicorn taro tea floats were delicious, though pricy.
Breada Farrell
I was excited to try this Japanese styled ice cream and cone but unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I chose the traditional matcha and sesame seed swirl, which definitely had the flavor but I wasn’t a fan of a few things: the way price-to-portion ratio, marshmallow sugar treats and I almost lost my ice cream a few times while biting into this cool cone. There is minimal seating with a grab-&-go style. However, the cone is very tasty and is soft like a cake. Overall, the fish cone and flavors selection are definitely great for social media pictures.
Tracy Su (rainbow)
Cute little place. Can be crowded, but the service is fast and the ice cream is good. I dont know if it is worth $7, because I wouldn't get this often, but once in a whule, it's pretty good. However, I would go to a specialty ice cream shop if I really want good ice cream.
Dani Phillips
You'll definitely get your IG worthy pic while enjoying the treats they have. I had the unicorn style - it was good. The fish (cone) part of the treat was good, not overly sugar.
Laura S.
Saw this on Instagram and wanted to try it out. The unicorn taiyaki is what I had seen on Instagram the most, so I went for that. It definitely looked amazing. Didn’t taste great though. Ate some of the soft serve and then squeezed it into the next garbage I walked by. The fish cone isn’t crunchy at all and the chocolate filling towards the bottom was probably the only part I enjoyed.
rachael landau
Gimmicky place for Japanese ice-cream treat. Cones are warm, fish-shaped waffles that swallowed a filling of either red bean paste or custard, then the icecream is soft-served and decorated with a side wafer cookie and/ or a skewer of tiny mochi. Had green matcha and black sesame flavored ice cream.
Annie Lee
This was my first time here at this location and I came here specifically for the pancakes! I heard that the pancakes were really good so I had to try it for myself. I was not disappointed! The pancakes were so soft and very tasty. The stacks were enough to fill up my stomach!
Although it was delicious, my friends and I did have for about 30-40 minutes. This location is really small; it’s one of those place where you grab and go.
Isaiah Herrera
I Absolutely love this place! I went there with a group of friends one day, and had to go back the very next day. The Taiyaki is absolutely delicious with either filling you get. And they're VERY generous with the amount of ice cream you get with it. Definitely worth it no matter when you go
Talal Jahlan
The ice cream is just a regular ice cream.its only the waffle and the look. If you want to eat with your eyes come here but if you prefer the mouth go somewhere else.
Ashley Naroznik
There soft serve is very good, the sesame flavor is particularly strong and flavorful, very nutty and good, the actual waffle fish is crispy, I expected/hoped it would be more dense and chewy, and had a small dollop of red bean at the base. Overall, a nice treat on a hot day.
D S
Some of the best soft serve ice cream in downtown Manhattan and the cones are amazing tasty and warm. This place is definitely worth the trip.
Emily Gordon
After having the taiyaki here, I'll live a half life until I can get some where I live. Had the matcha and black sesame swirl in the fish with red bean filling-- I'll never forget the day. Honestly delicious, and definitely a cool look. The fish itself was tasty in its own right it was not merely less-gross ice cream cone. DEFINITELY going here every time I visit!
Nick McGill
The cones are a delight - warm, fresh, and filled. The red bean was a nice ending to my green tea and black sesame ice cream. The black sesame seemed to take over the green tea though!
Lena Fan
The jiggly souffle pancake trend, made famous in the streets of Shibuya tokyo finally makes its way to NYC. Having just recently had this in Japan, I have been craving these fluffy pancakes for the better part of the year, so when I heard that Taiyaki started serving them, I made sure to get my butt up early Saturday morning to avoid the lines. I got both the matcha and regular with maple butter to share! Both were delicious but the regular with maple butter was my favorite!
inging fnu
Their matcha green tea ice cream is superb. Love that hint of bitterness and not overly sweet. *update* recently i tried their matcha frappe. OMG, I just love it!! It my must have thing if i go there. I am not a big fan of sweet, they make a perfect matcha frappe for my taste bud(they have vegan choice for people that are vegetarian). I tried my kids mango and strawberry ice cream and it taste really good too. We love it!
K M (Hina)
This is a really cute little shop! Their taiyaki ice cream was the main reason I came to visit and it was definitely worth it. They give you a lot of ice cream for the price. Would go back again to try out their other flavors and desserts.
kristy quijije
They have very creative dessert options. Everything tastes so good and looks even better. The fish waffle cone is delicious. It is a little pricey, but with good service and delicious ice cream treats it is worth a try.

I went here after I saw a video on them from insider food on YouTube. I went to the restaurant, which is small in space but not in taste. I went there to get the souffle pancakes, but to my dismay they only do that on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. So I ended up getting the classic. The taiyaki was fresh, and it tasted delicious. The ice cream they put in the taiyaki was also good. I would definitely recommend this place if you're ever in Chinatown in Manhattan.

The long lines did deter me from trying out this new dessert joint in the first two weeks of opening. I ended up going around 8pm when the line was bearable since everyone was probably eating dinner. I love all their flavors, but special shout out to the chocolate soft serve. Best thing I've ever had. The creamy, cold soft serve topped in a warm, toasty, custard-filled waffle is a dream come true. The line is worth every single bite down to the tail. Did I also mention how good the store smells the moment you swing open the door? You'll know what I'm talking about when you decide to try Taiyaki for yourself.
David Anzalone
Separated, the two components of this photogenic treat are good, together they are great. After you've eaten most of the ice cream, getting a single mouthful of cold and creamy ice cream with its warm and crunchy vessel is a flavor and texture sensation. I love that the taiyaki is fresh back, makes a big difference. I had some amazing Taiyaki when I visited Japan and can confidently say this is on par. Cannot wait to try other flavors. Pictured is sesame ice cream with a chocolate drizzle topped with crushed Oreos and a Pirouline in a red bean filled taiyaki cone.
Win Chun
Ice cream was really good!! Got the straight outta Japan which had a green tea and black sesame swirl ice cream with red bean stuffed taiyaki. It was $7 which is a decent price and it's so cute looking!! You can probably share it with someone if you are coming from dinner and is looking for a dessert spot. The store is small so there is no where to sit since it's packed and the line was to the door but it moved pretty fast. I would definately come back to try the other flavors!
Laner AL D
Cute little ice cream shop, and I emphasize "little." This place can fit about 10 people max and seat about 6 comfortably. However, the ice cream is very good and the fish cone adds a unique and cultural twist on traditional soft serve. Overall, definitely a place to check out!!
Adam Mahmoud
Top notch dessert place with really good ice cream. Definitely worth the trip to find this hidden jem
Kevin
Cool little ice cream and taiyaki shop with many innovative and interesting desserts. We got the Easter themed Easter Kones which came with vanilla ice cream in a pink waffle cone with rainbow sprinkles and mochi which was decent. Shop itself is a little small and gets crowded and the heat was on which made our ice cream melt a bit too quick. Overall worth a visit if you love desserts.
Pris Pb
Trendy place to get some matcha ice cream. They also have fluffy pancakes with matcha but I preferred the ice cream.
Sometimes the line can be long but it’s worth waiting
Essa Bangura
Fantastic ice cream and I would also recommend the soufflé pancakes. I went on a Saturday around 1:00 and there was a 15 mins wait hitch went pretty quickly. The staff and service was excellent given the high volume. I would highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Kacper Jarecki
Really tasty ice cream - very unique and one of a kind. Highly recommended for a visit! It's a bit crowded and really no place to sit. People will ask you to take their picture here.
Shardul Telharkar
Awesome taste and friendly staff.
Exotic ice cream to try.
I did not like the surrounding outside, had a heap of garbage besides the restaurant.
Gala G
Matcha/sesame. Ice cream itself is plain, just another soft serve, nothing special, taste isn't bright, I didn't feel it at all, to be honest. But. It's cute (you see pin pic), many options for sides. What is really tasty is fish - waffle! Absolutely loved it & red bean paste which goes inside (custard is another available option). Buy again if around.
Ruben Groen
Interesting concept, I did not expect that you would make the Taiyaki Cones that fresh off the grill. When I had my ice cream the cone and the red bean paste inside was still a bit warm. Good combo with the matcha soft cream on top! Loved it!
kris
So unique and tasty! Helpful staff, we came in and out there was no wait time.
Antoinette Raven
First time going but the menu was easy to navigate. Tried the red bean for the first time , it was so good. Would definitely go again
Maya B.
Had to try this trendy place, and I was not disappointed what so ever. Definitely worth the price, as it’s pretty expensive for an ice cream. The warmth and softness of the taiyaki was a great compliment to the strawberry and mango soft serve ice cream. Wonderful!
Mathilde Malpartida Durroux
The food is great, especially the fish shaped waffles and the "straight outta japan". It's by far my favorite, the combination of both matcha and black sesame is delicious!
Susanna Mostaghim
Favorite ice cream place in Chinatown. I know it's definitely an Instagram trend with the taiyaki and ice cream now but I really enjoy the fresh taiyaki they're providing as a cone. I would definitely suggest to people to get the custard one if they're not familiar with how red bean paste tastes just because it'll be an easier transition. I still like the customizing of your softserve dessert but would recommend the Straight Outta Japan pre-determined cone if you like black sesame and red bean.
Liz Ramirez
This place is awesome for ice cream. You can build your own custom styled ice cream or select from fan favorites. I had vanilla with Carmel and sprinkles in the fish cone. Loved it, even in the cold weather!
Manya Wadhwa
Love this place! Been here twice till now. Once for the ice cream and once for the pancakes. Please note than on weekends the pancakes are available only till 2pm and it takes around 20ish minutes for them to prepare one order. The ice cream is fairly quick!
Abir Razzak
Glad I got to knock off a item from my bucket list here! I've always wanted to try Soft Serve inside Taiyaki and visiting NY for the weekend, this was a must go for me. Absolutely amazing. Super friendly staff that knew their product and were very helpful and insightful on popular items from their menu. The soft serve was amazing, amazing presentation combined with superb flavor. If you want to get Soft Serve Taiyaki this is the place trust me.
DIMITRI LASKAS
Dessert time- Yaiyaki ice cream ...this is so tasty. This is the Classic- vanilla ice cream, custard teriyaki cone, chocolate drizzle, crushed oreos & wafer stick... real food ice cream and cone is shaped like a fish...of course this place is next to where I parked..🤣🤣🍦🍦

went here during my trip to NYC last year, and the taiyaki was amazing. good ice cream, delicious waffle base and cute interior. i really regret not coming back for a second😭😭 …
Annie Wu
Matcha Soufflé Pancakes, finally there are a few places in NYC are selling this popular item in Asian Countries. They have regular Soufflé or matcha Soufflé to choose from and many choices of taiyaki with ice creams. Only down size, they don’t see any coffee or tea except water.
Jackie Gordon Singing Chef
It's all about how cute the soft serve ice cream is in the fish shaped cone. We decided that the best flavors are the vanilla and the black sesame. I didn't try the matcha come but it looked very striking.
Mateja Brescak
Ohh we almost gave up searching for this place but then there it was! 😁👌 Great service nice atmosphere small but cute place and a delicious ice-cream .. And I loved the waffle 😍😍😍🍦🍦🍦 I took the unicorn 🦄 with coco ice cream and my bf a Taiyaki with black sesame and matcha ice-cream 😋👌and at the bottom of the waffle is a surprise 😉🤤 …
samantha
So cute... one of the reasons why NYC is amazing...fish shaped ice cream cones. The ice cream is delicious, soft and decorative (without being over done). Fast service, so don't let long lines intimidate you from trying it.
Vee Yeo
Stopped by while visiting my dad in NYC. We grabbed some ice cream and really enjoyed. It is a tad pricey but it's a great Instagram or Snap stop, especially of you get crazy toppings. Only thing I could say is I wish there was more seating availability since it too hot to take to go. They have little to no seating as the place is tiny.
Ashley Sullivan
Got the strawberry and matcha ice creams and both were very good! Will definitely go again
Kenny Yang
I finally had the chance to visit this place after hearing about it for over a year while I was living in Japan. So of course I had to try the straight outta Japan since I recently returned to NYC. The ice cream alone was so delicious and reminded me of delicious matcha and black sesame in Japan. Definitely a must if you miss Japan.
P.P. B
So yummy! And the staff are pleasent and pretty... quick service and the lines move fast... love the create your own and the matcha black sesame swirl...
Marco Daniel Machado
The ice cream and pastry fish cones were already five star treats, but the addition of Japanese Soufflé Pancakes with Matcha sauce and classic American pancake toppings has put them well over the top as a must-see place for AMAZING eats in Chinatown.
Tim
A very nice place to eat! The store is very small and a bit hard to find but it was absolutely worth to come here. I had a black sesame and matcha ice with a red bean fish cone. I would like to come here again.
Peter Montalvo
A very unique ice cream. I tried the Genmaicha (roasted matcha). It was great. The cone is a soft and chewy! I loved it. It was better than I anticipated. The past is small and pretty much there so you can take out and eat while roaming the streets. It lives up to the hype. Definitely come here when you’re in the area.
Carine Alexis
This shop is one of my favorite ice cream shops in the city, and I love that they’ve made their unicorn build permanent. They blend the traditional and contemporary seamlessly. You won’t regret trying it.
Amu
Ice cream texture is sooo soft!! Visited this while in New York, definitely must try ice cream in town!
LaKendra Huckaby
The ice cream taste AMAZING and the staff is super nice! The building is tiny though so you can't sit in and eat your ice cream. I recommend getting it on a nice weather day so you can walk to the park down the street and enjoy it.
Melissa Gibson
You can customize your order and the cone is adorable! The cone was really soft and sweet, and filled with either custard/red bean!
Shamoon Mian
Ice cream is great and they have a good amount of flavors. It looks absolutely fantastic. Would highly recommend
Chrisy Sanchez
Ice cream was delicious. Could be better with a small standing table or 2 for people to enjoy the ice cream indoor or even outdoors.
Alexandra Grove
The souffle pancakes are elite! Its a bit of a wait, but that is just the nature of these types of pancakes. I didn't get any ice cream but it looked really good too.
V W
Ice cream + taiyaki is the PERFECT combo. I’ve been coming here for years now and I don’t think you can go wrong with any flavor.
Jessica Velez
Variety of flavors. The matcha is pretty good. This is a great place to take people who are visiting, and worth passing by if you are in NYC. A bit pricey to make it something to do often.
Armando García Ibañes
Amazing ice cream with real Japanese flavors, the bread is filled with sweet beans, the gummy squares taste exactly as the Japanese and are very fresh, this is a must go to place!
Nada Mohammed
I've been to this shop a few times now, and all the ice cream I've had there is absolutely delicious. The taiyaki cone is unique and really well executed. The store is small on the inside, but well worth a visit. Even better is the staff, who are super nice and polite even when they have to move quickly to accommodate the line. On our last visit, my cousin forgot her phone in the shop, and the employees held onto it and allowed us to pick it up the next morning. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for a quick, sweet pick-me-up.
Ken
Came on a weekday after lunch (~1pm). I was the only customer at the time. Person at the register was helpful in explaining how to order. Went for the sesame and matcha combo soft serve with custard, strawberry sauce, strawberry, and wafer. Unfortunately I DIDN'T GET ANY CUSTARD FILLING! It tasted pretty good otherwise but also it seems on the small side for the price.
Gurleen
Such a fun way to get ice cream! The base is a Japanese baked cake and the ice cream flavors are delicious! I got the unicorn cone and was super happy with it. @traveleen_gurl
Gloria X
I walked past it on its opening day (methinks) and the line stretched out around the block. Came back 20 min before closing yesterday- it was still decently popular at such a late hour. Ordered the "Matcha Better" because I really love bad puns. Jk, I just love matcha everything. Not a fan of the strawberry drizzle on top but the Matcha ice cream is super creamy and smooth. It's not overwhelmingly sweet but packed with a strong tea flavor. Definitely going back for more flavors!
Dora R
Cute and delicious Instagram worthy soft serve. It may get crowded since it's a small space.
Jordan Rodger
Am amazing ice cream with some really weird but good flavours and the cone with the red bean paste inside is definantly unique. If your in New York I definantly refined at least one visit.
Judy Luo
Very cute and creative! Lines move fast. The taiyaki shell was super adorable and delicious (soft with just a bit of crunch at the outer edges, but very little custard/red beam filling -- just enough to fill the taiyaki fish tail), and the ice cream was creamy and yummy but the ice cream flavors are very subtle. I got matcha and sesame flavors for my ice cream and both flavors were not as strong as I preferred. Also, be careful eating this ice ceam taiyaki because the taiyaki doesn't have enough structural integrity to hold up the ice cream too well - and it's overall top-heavy...my husband's ice cream tipped over out from the taiyaki shell and the ice cream fell onto his hands after walking a few steps out of the shop.
Colubrifer x
Delicious! This is as good as the trendy dessert places in Tokyo. Black sesame and matcha is a great match. The only thing I wish is that the ice cream could get inside the taiyaki a little bit more.
Jenn Doun
Amazing ice cream, tayiyaki itself is a dry and has no chewiness it is known for.. and the filling is barely there. But aethetically a piece of art!
Vivian C
Came on a Saturday night. It was busy but the line moved fast. I like the idea but did not enjoy the matcha ice cream as I had hoped.
Christine Dean
Friendly and patient staff, and my daughter was thrilled! She said it was delicious.
Lauren Sabotta
If I could go to this place every single day I would. This was the best icecream I have ever had in my entire existence.
Jonah Chang
Taiyaki NYC is a world taken straight out of Japan. The soft serve combines both Asian and American tastes that produces a rare, unique flavoring that's almost like re-discovering ice cream - think back to your childhood days of having it for the first time. The crisp & warm, fish-shaped waffle filled with custard or red bean really adds a unique and bold flavor that pulls everything together, leaving a rich and fulfilling taste after every
The staff was very welcoming even in peak times, and I've never had a bad experience here. I've been to Taiyaki a few times and I definitely plan on coming back - this is definitely a go-to spot for me.
Christopher Singh
There was a line out the door but we weren't waiting for long. This isn't my first time there but it is the first time I tried the Unicorn Taiyaki. Staff is cool. Its pretty clean on the inside. Everything was delicious.
Eva Yung
What's not to love? A cute crispy, chewy winking Taiyaki (filled at the bottom with either custard or red bean) topped with soft serve ice cream..
flavors include: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, black sesame, matcha. there's also swirls! I always get the matcha/sesame swirl.
Swetha Salian
One of the best ice creams I've had in a long time! The trek was soooo worth it. I got their unicorn ice cream, which was strawberry/ vanilla with a red bean paste cone
Big Lou
Small place but awesome flavor in this unique style of ice cream. The unicorn one was so amazing, it felt it was a brand new day for me, it rocked!
Monica Wei
Really fun place for ice cream! The matcha ice cream is really delicious, and the unicorn cone is super cute. It's messy to eat as the ice cream melts all over the taiyaki, so eat it fast! The cone is crispy and delicious, plus you can choose what filling you want (I recommend red bean!). Overall if you want a fun insta-worthy ice cream place, come here!
Darlene Austria
Saw this place on tik tok and had to go. Good ice cream. From the menu I got the signature beach, please taiyaki without the coconut flakes. July 2022
Dylan St. Clair
Attention to detail on the waffle fish. The toppings mesh well with ice cream. A perfect blend of appearance and taste.
Ruwan J.
Taiyaki NYC is an ice cream shop. it serves up sweet crispy fish-shaped waffles filled with rich and smooth soft serve ice cream, drizzled with syrup and topped with a variety of toppings. opted for the Signature Matcha Taiyaki: a taiyaki waffle filled with smooth rich thick matcha ice cream, red bean paste and drizzled atop with strawberry syrup and topped with matcha powder, and rainbow mochi. the matcha ice cream is sweet but still tastes like matcha; the strawberry syrup adds an additional bit of sweetness; the waffle is soft yet crisp on the outside, and the Mochi and matcha powder are nice flavorful aesthetic topping to the dessert.
while nothing cures hot weather quite like ice cream treats, Taiyaki's offerings are not just any old simple ice cream dessert. it is Taiyaki NYC's commitment to high-quality ingredients and consistency which is why people love the eats and keep coming back beyond the desserts eye-catching pics on social media.
the shop itself is fairly small. it is very much is grab-n-go which works bc the Taiyaki travels well as a snack for walks downtown. the interior is clean, brightly lit, and modern. there's a variety of signature ice cream Taiyaki options or you can build your own. the shop got pretty crowded fairly quickly when i was there on Saturday...yet orders rolled out quickly and smoothly without a hitch. the vibe is very upbeat and energetic and that comes through in the presentation and product.
staff are courteous and efficient.
Sami Zweier
Really creamy ice cream and the taiyaki pastry was delicious (did the byot option with custard). small location so it can get really crowded.
kerri braun
It was a fun adventure to visit taiyaki nyc! The cone with the sweet red bean paste was delicious! The green tea icecream was amazing and refreshing! Everything on the menu looked great!
Wenceslao Plazas
It's a different form to eat ice cream. It's Japanese style. For ice cream lover this is the Place
Hannah Sadollah
Sweet, cozy anytime treat. Highly recommend.
Gjil L
You have to put in the order and go back about an hour and 15 minutes to get it. Delicious pancakes/waffles.
Emily Fuentes
Super delicious, the bread at the bottom was great. Only downside was that the chocolate was unavailable and chocolate is a flavor, in my opinion, that should always be available because of the demand.
Donnalee C.
Absolutely love love love this place. The staff are really sweet & so is the ice cream is amazing. I reccomend this place to all my friends & family. Definitely an nyc stop that has to be made for delicious treats.
Rami Yehoshua
Very tasty and unique flavors.
The service is great, and you can try before you choose.
Audrey S
A must try in New York! Their Tayaki and ice cream are so so good and original!
I tried the custard Tayaki with chocolate ice cream and unicorn toppings and it was absolutely amazing.
Megan Ung
Great place for a foodie! Yummy ice cream and classic fishy dessert! I love the mix.
Kristin Dorey
Admittedly, Instagram brought me here, but the charming taiyaki ice cream will keep me coming back. The service was quite quick given the crowd, and it was obvious that a great deal of care was taken to prepare each taiyaki.
Felix Colón
Wonderful place! I actually wanted to order some taiyaki on its own, but learned they only do that on weekdays. Instead ordered a custom taiyaki cone with chocolate ice cream, red bean paste filling, and rainbow mochi! It was absolutely delicious and I look forward to coming back. Highly recommend checking this place out!
Jasmine Knowles
Delicious flavors and great staff!! I love bringing guests here and they always enjoy! Can get messy so be sure to grab napkins. Also, 10$ credit limit so bring cash if only ordering one!
Alex S.
Great great great ice cream that is full filling, yet doesn’t leaving you feeling stuffed. Perfect price point especially for a place like this, in New York City. Try it out, trust me.
Diana Kudayarova
Delicious soft serve, light clean flavor and great texture (I got vanilla). Fish cones are tasty too! Pricy ($8)
Sofia Bellucci
Came here with a relative. Definitely enjoyed the ice cream, it was super thick and beautiful. I tried the green tea flavour and I did not enjoy it but if you are into green tea, you'll love it because it tastes just like green tea! I loved the chocolate (Mr. Softy type flavouring) and mango (makes you feel like you're on a tropical yacht) with coconut flakes. It was amazing and I would come back. I sadly did not try the red bean cone but I did try the custard cone and it was so yummy (it tastes sort of like bread). I usually never eat the cones so this was crazy to me. I love the texture and how soft the cone was.
Pavan Varma BHUPATIRAJU
Great place to have deserts. The vanilla & chocolate are really good.
Raymond Vagell
The soft serve stuffed Taiyaki is heavenly. We got the black sesame and green tea swirl. Delicious. The unicorn taro slushie is also tasty but truth be told, I really just wanted the unicorn floater.
Emmanuel Suárez Acevedo
We got there slightly before opening time and there was no line. It took around half an hour for them to have 3 pancakes ready for us (2 classic, 1 matcha). While they were incredibly delicious (and yes, very photogenic), there’s no indoor dining because of COVID and they don’t do to-go boxes so we had to eat in a single small bench they have outside for outdoor dining. This is a pretty significant miss, (and especially inconvenient in colder months and during peak hours) made worse by the fact that to-go boxes would easily solve the issue. The pancakes were definitely worth 5 stars, but I hope they start serving them in to-go boxes or work on a better outdoor dining space.
Mao
The ice cream with the fish shaped cones and the custard inside of it is amazing.
Cassandra K
I love taiyaki, so this was a really interesting experience to have it filled with ice cream; though it made me really full, so I suggest coming here on a very empty stomach.
Though there's pretty much always a line, it moves fairly quickly and someone is outside instructing everyone and showing a menu so you can be really prepared when you go in.
The pancakes were really good too, super fluffy as advertised. Would be awesome if there was somewhere to sit, but hey, it's the city. Would be really cool if they opened some locations in bigger areas, would be a really fun Cafe type place.
Jon (JSR)
I finally get the chance to eat here after seeing it all over my Instagram feed. The ice cream is delicious, the taiyaki is so good, warm, and crunchy. The staff is very friendly too. A must if you head to the city
Christobel Gomez-Garcia
Delicious ice cream and flavors! Can’t wait to come back for more someday soon.
Thao Nguyen
Had green tea and strawberry ice cream with custard filling! It was yummy!
Shermin Justo
First time there and omg delicious 😋 …
Sarah Stauffer
Fun and cute every time. Our guests always love it. Kids and adults.
Anita Khristidi
I always love their taiyaki, every time I visit! The traditional one with custard is my favorite, and I also love their matcha/hojicha ice cream with condensed milk on top. Perfection.
They also sell mochi donuts occasionally, and while those are cute, I can't say I'm a huge fan. The donut itself is alright, but sometimes the icing can be too sweet or grainy. Still definitely recommend trying!
Ori Sarig
Good service! They gave us samples to taste before choosing the flavor we want.
Marlene M
Loved the pancakes and the ice cream is as advertised!
dave I
Fun, cool and interesting take on ice cream. Love the cones, unique and tasty! Limited flavors but still fun once in awhile.
Evelyn Woo
So cute and delish
Kajsa Jönsson
A small little cute place with really good icecream and waffle that looks like a fish! U need to take the icecream with you and u cant sit there, but t was fast and good service! I tool "the classic", as in my picture!
Wai Yu
It was tasty. Would definitely go again. The place is kinda small so not much of a place to sit down.
Uzair Haq
This was such a fun and new ice cream experience for me! I’ve never had ice cream like this and the taste was phenomenal!
moran sotto
Love the fluffy pancakes. And the ice cream was a show to the kids. And yummy
דניאלה דן
Special Ice cream 🍦 we tried the black sesame, matcha with red beans ice cream. The taste was too weird for us. I guess we should've stick with the classic vanilla …
L K
I came here when they introduced their green tea cone; combined with matcha tea ice cream is the perfect combo. Also came a second time to try their matcha latte!
David Romano
Cute "hole-in-wall" store but Taiyaki is usually an awesome place for the two establishments I've gone to. People are chill, the vibe is chill, people outside the store was chill,it's just relaxing.
Norhan Bassiouny
I’ve been here a couple of times and the ice cream is always delicious. Highly recommend!
Jeff Tsang
Long lines for fun Japanese desserts that's been a thing on the west coast for years. Better late than never.
Y L
Nice combination of ice cream flavors and toppings though I wish the taiyaki was hot and soft like how it is traditionally served instead of cold and crunchy. I also find it slightly overpriced.
koko •
very small and cute, we got the unicorn taiyaki, you can also create your own & choose your own flavor and toppings, also very fast & good service. definitely would come back
Alan Pham
Cool place, I liked the ice cream a lot and finishing it off with the custard cone was great!
Amy Jasani
I chose vanilla ice cream with oreo toppings in red bean cone - was delicious!! Great stop on a hot summer day.
Aly Mello
Amazing! Some of the best Taiyaki I've had in the city. If you like Japanese sweets or just good frozen yogurt you have to visit this shop.
Rachel Z
Delicious experience! The ice cream tastes as good as it looks.
Anna H
Was very excited to try the Japanese pancakes, and was not disappointed! Note that they are only available on the weekends, and only until 2pm
John Kim
Great service and great ice cream! Only issue is it gets so popular and crowded where it’s tough to figure out where the line is. Just get there early!
Jessa Michelle
BEST ICE CREAM SPOT EVER!! Extremely clean, friendly & tons of options! Prices are perfect too! Only downside is it's very small.
Cham Tang
The fish ice cream cones seem to be the claim to fame for this place, lol!
The green tea / matcha ice cream is tasty though.
The shop is tiny and there's nowhere to sit
Joyce Chao
I got the black sesame and matcha mix w/ red bean and it was worth the hype! I will definitely be back.
Nguyen Lieu
I love the store, but there's a quite small place (no room to sit). I will come back if I have a chance. It tastes so good.
L K Chow
Pancakes taste like fluffy eggwhite souffles. Not bad but not that good that worth waiting in line for half an hour. Totally overhyped! No need to go again.
Joy Pi
Yummy! Presentation was great and the ice cream was very good as well. Really love the black sesame flavor!
Josh Zignego
Ice cream was pretty good and of course the signature fish cone was cool, but it’s very expensive for a very small amount of food.
David Kowalczyk
Love this place!!! Everything is great here including the service. Recommend the pancakes over everything else. Be ready for a little wait but it's totally worth it.
Wendy Weber
I really enjoyed the choco-lit taiyaki ice cream. The taiyaki cone was outstanding since it was still warm, the chocolate ice cream was delicious, and the wafer stick was awesome. I would definitely visit again when I visit the area again.
Lancine Keita
I enjoyed the mochi donuts. They were pretty dope.
gakuenalice11
The ice cream and fish pastry were tasty! I tried the matcha ice cream one, I believe it was called "In Japan." There wasn't a line when I went so the service was quick.
Elizabeth Taylor
loved the souffle. trust me. picture may look little dry but it wasn’t. but call beforehand and make sure they are serving them when you go. apparently they don’t serve souffle past 2pm which was inconvenient for many people who went wanting to try it :((
Nafisa Akabor
A must-visit in Chinatown and NYC itself! Unique ice-creams in a fish shaped cone (waffle) and so delicious. The pictures and reviews speak for itself.
Bing Wu
Profound tea aroma with a mellow taste - it’s indeed straight outta Japan! Must try
calv g
Everything looks fun and tastes great. I’ve been before for the taiyaki, but this time I went late at night for a box of donuts and there was a big crowd. The staff was all still so polite and helpful to everyone in line even though it was late and they had to explain multiple times which items were sold out, etc. Great vibes.
Jennifer Chastain
Super crowded but lines moved very fast. Amazing flavor and that cooked to perfection fish cone, might I add, topped with an extra sprinkle of matcha is truly amazing 👏. …
Cassandra Celestin
Ice cream is good, thick and creamy. The Taiyaki Custard cone was not for me. It was too soft, left a weird taste in my mouth. It’s like a low sugar pancake with a certain je ne sais quoi. I prefer a regular waffle cone.
Marvin Bernal
Who knew matcha and strawberry jam goes so well!
Marcos Torres (FoodPorn NY)
It’s funny but the best Japanese pancakes are located in Chinatown 😂😂 | they serve those just on weekends! You should try …
Fiaz Mohammed
Tasty cones with some delicious flavours. The only reason to visit China town.
Jubin Majlessi
Very high quality Japanese style ice cream, excellent cones as well. Service is good and quick. When our child dropped their ice cream, they came over and replaced the whole thing for free. You guys rock !
Faith Walton
I had a great time, the ice cream was delicious and the atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. I will be going back.
L H
The place is very small, the prices were reasonable. It was so fun to try it and it tastes also good (vanilla & strawberry unicorn 🦄) …
Widy Gedhe
Love this place! Not only is their desserts so cute/Instagram worthy, it actually tastes good! Usually I am a bit wary of pretty desserts because it's usually not that tasty but their soft serve ice cream is delicious, but the taiyaki itself (the red bean cake it comes on) is good too.i also have tried their Japanese soufflé pancakes, and they are delicious as well.
Claire Mummert
Yessss. This place is Amazing! I'd had a similar food in Seoul and was really missing it. I found this place on Instagram and tucked away to visit at some point. Well I found myself in New York and had to go. It did not disappoint!!
Joanne Ramirez
I’m not much of a dessert person but this little, adorable, ice cream shop made me a fan. I got the unicorn vanilla ice cream, in the fish shaped cone. It was delicious and not too overly sweet.
Nofilah Tokyo
The ice cream is amazing, the waffle was delicious and the cashier was so sweet and helpful
Mariel Augustine
It was pretty busy but the staff were on the ball. Got in, ordered, got our stuff all in approximately 5 minutes. We got one of the new donuts, as well as a #3 Taiyaki. Everything tasted very good, and fresh
Kate Stout
The ice cream and taiyaki are amazing, but the souflee pancakes are out of this world!
Pavee Suvagondha
The wait is too long for the pancakes.
H RE
Worth the experience just one time, but not worth the long line. Just not...
The shop -literally- across the street had more tasteful bread and pancakes.
Carola Tumatis
Really really good, the azuki inside were so good and the texture of the “pancake” was very soft and light that make you want to eat more!
Duc Nguyen
The ice cream was very good! I got a fish cone with mango and strawberry ice cream with Cotton candy and rainbow mochi! 🍦🍨🍡 …
Amy Arensberg
Such a fun place and super tasty! The unicorn horn and ears are kind of like candy corn but better.

Very tiny icecream shop but I love them and have been here many times. The icecream is great and I've fortunately tried their fluffy pancakes as well which were delightful. Such a gem in Chinatown.

I've been here three times and will keep coming back! Such delicious and savory soft-serve! The thickness of the fish-shaped Taiyaki cone compliments the flavor of any ice cream. Thank you for this creative treat :)

Loved the ice cream, their Brooklyn location still my favorite!
David J Partida
Top notch ice cream and experience. Highly recommended. Seating is limited so be prepared to stand

This place has the best ice cream in NYC. The ice cream in the picture is called "beach, please" ($8) and it is strawberry and mango.

Sweet heaven.
It is so fluffy as if you are eating cloud.

This place is the cutest ice cream place ever. I had the matcha ice cream with the unicorn toppings and the fish cone. So good I loved it. It’s a bit pricey for ice cream but worth the Instagram moment. I wouldn’t go every week but once in a while it’s worth it.

The #2 choco lit ice cream was absolutely delicious. The place was so cute and clean. Customer service was spot on. Look $8 might seem a little pricey but I think its totally worth it ( ^ ♡ ^ ). I'll definitely be coming back

The ice cream was great and the fish shapped cone was delicious, like a waffle cone but not hard and not soggy either, just perfect!!!
Narita Ayu Shafiera
It was a little disappointed because I missed out on their special Souffle Pancake but my son got the Unicorn Icecream and it was awesome

Definitely instagram worthy but besides beautiful looking ice creams they taste AMAZING. This is the best soft serve ice cream I have had. It also helps that hojicha is my favorite flavor. For lactose intolerant folx,.the taro shake is a good alternative. I have been visiting this business since it has opened and they've maintained delicious ice cream and good service the whole time. For those who don't want ice cream you can still get a traditional taiyaki - which is the fish shaped waffle filled with either cream or red bean. Customer services is great. One time a new staff member made the wrong thing for me but they promptly made me a new one and gave me both ice creams. Expect a line on hot summer days but the staff tries to keep it moving.

Take the train into Chinatown after a short walk you'll find a cute little shop. It's not very large and would be easy to walk past but thankfully there was a very nice employee outside directing you where to stand in line and answer your questions. We waited maybe 5 minutes. Once inside we waited a few minutes to order. The staff was very nice and helpful. They were very speedy and super nice. Two of us had the strawberry mango flavor and one had chocolate. It was delicious and refreshing. The "cone" was really good. Two of us had it in the red bean and the other had the custard. They are very filling as well. Worth the trip, and now the rest of my family wants to take a trip to try their first Taiyaki.

This place cured my sweet tooth ! & Great customer service 💯 …

A nice ice cream spot. A great treat after a long day or after dinner
Luis
The ice cream was delicious, and the fish cone was soft; it complemented the ice cream very well. A must-go in NYC.

Fast service. Clean place. Nice staff. I went here with some coworkers and we had a good time. The ice cream is picture worthy and tastes good too! I ordered the unicorn ice cream. It's soft served with marshmallows for horn and ears. The fish cone is tasty and it has red bean at the very bottom
Diego Berrocal
Love the flavor of the ice cream. The red bean is an acquired taste
Marina Dushaj
Probably one of the places I've went to for ice cream. The quality abd service is awesome. Definately recommend!
Richard Waters
The service here is lightning quick! I ordered with 3 other people and the lone gentleman behind the counter handed us our beautifully crafted treats in seconds. The custard (or red bean paste) filled, fish-shaped waffle cones are soft, adorable, and delicious!

It was very easy to order taiyaki from a pre set menu or build your own. I ordered a mango strawberry with custard filling and it was delicious. The facility it really clean and the time between ordering and getting your order is very quick. The establishment is small in size so only a few people should be in at a time but it's a quick serve time so it's not too much of a problem. Also, this is a card only establishment.

Started and run by some old friends and absolutely adore the concept. The icecream were both cute and yummy. What a great catch!

Went to try one of their well known desserts and I cannot complain because I got mine for free due to a promotion. The price is usually around 8 dollars which is in line for niche cuisine of this sort in Manhattan. Personally, although I enjoyed the ice cream and waffle-like fish shaped cone, I probably would not purchase it due to my frivolous nature. Glad I got to experience it though.

This place is amazing. Went with a bunch of friends here and ate some of the best ice cream ever. The cones are equally as good as they taste like a small cake. The pancakes are fluffy and delightful. Overall, this is a great place to stop by and grab a bite.

Delicious and extremely cool ice cream.

Fast service and great ice cream !
Amanda Cao
The ice cream here is really fun. The fish-shaped waffle cone has red bean paste inside, and I got sesame and matcha swirled ice cream on top. It's a pretty big dessert, but I enjoyed finishing it. Just don't make the mistake I did of biting in before getting a photo of the cone *without* the wrapper!
Jodafu
Amazing cone! I don’t know what was in there but it tasted like a funnel cake from the state fair!
Mariah Mckenzie
Cute fish shaped cones filled with delicious soft serve! I had the out of Japan and my friend had the classic.
Alisa Wyman
Great flavors, cute shop, and omg the red bean inside was amazing. I think it's a little over-priced, and def too touristy, but still a really wonderful shop.
Pinar Tuncel
Delicious matcha and Sakura ice cream
Bryan Lau
All in all, I think the package was quite good. The soft serve and the soft sorbet were thick, rich, and refreshing (in the case of the sorbet). I found the taiyaki fresh and stuffed with red bean paste, seasoned well and not too sweet. The mochi skewers are a gimmick, though, dried out and old.

Worth the hype! I went to Taiyaki NYC on a Sunday afternoon and thankfully the line wasn’t that bad. My friend said when she last came here there was a line halfway down the street. The service here is pretty quick too. I feel like we waited in line and were in and out of there within 10 minutes
I ordered the strawberry mango ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, coconut flakes and strawberry syrup all in the cute little fish like cone of course :)
This ice cream was sooo incredibly good!! The strawberry mango flavor was delicious it was the perfect blend of sweet and citrus flavor but not too sweet. It kind of reminded me of a creamy sherbet. The cone was actually really good too! And I’m not even a fan of ice cream cones but I loved how fresh it was.
Check this place out if you’re in the NYC area! And BE SURE TO CHECK IN ON YELP :) you’ll get an extra free topping!
alwaysdte
I love their taiyaki and go every chance I get to. I love the matcha and/or sesame! Yum

Very delicious. The cone was something new and very tasty. Definitely coming back again. I tried the vanilla one and I loved it.
DJ Guillermo
Staff was very attentive and the ice cream was delicious! Not a long wait sometimes although hype may create long lines. Accesible location.
Shera Rowley
So fun and yummy. Runs about 8.00 for the cone but sooo fun and food.
Eric Cesare
Best ice cream I have every had. Not only that, but it looks great too!
Sera Kim
The ice cream was so delicious and creamy. The store was small, but clean and the time it took to get my order was very reasonable. The Taiyaki part of the item was delicious as well with the red bean inside being the right amount of sweetness. Would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't tried this yet and is in the area!
Melissa Chiou
Very cool desserts. Not a lot of seating, so you’ll probably have to stand and eat.
Marcos Pin
Your guys ice creams are delicious very unique. Will definitely go back
Mahisha Shah
Love how pretty the ice cream looks but it melts really fast.
Travis Arrington
Such a cute little ice cream store! The ice cream was delicious and they had a giant Rilaukima bear that's fun to take pics with
Maria Avila Carmona
I enjoyed their matcha flavor Ice cream and I don't like matcha. Also the taiyaki with redbean was surprisingly good. If you want to try the pancakes go before 4pm. Will like to visit again to try them.
Young
I had their Matcha and Hojicha icecream and it was amazing. I could taste both flavor simultaneously.
Ellie Martin
Loved it! They ice cream was great, and there were a decent amount of options. Green tea(#4) is great. I wish they had a larger area to sit down and enjoy, but it is the city after all. Crowded, but not insanely crowded. No long line or ridiculous wait. Staff are nice too.
