Laozi Ice Cream is the best. It’s not just the best in New Orleans, it’s the best. Sam is the best, and he whips up the craziest flavors ever. I brought my daughter to the shop, and she tried just about every ice cream he’s ever made. Legend. He drops new flavors all the time, and every single flavor is incredible. If you haven’t eaten Laozi Ice Cream yet, you’re slippin’.

His custard is unparalleled, the perfect decadent creaminess to serve as the medium for his various fun flavor. His choices are always inventive, well-crafted and often nostalgic. No two are exactly alike & many have sold out in minutes. The best part of this product is that you can tell it has been created with love. This is the kind of ice cream you don't have to think too hard about it, just get some, you won't be disappointed. And if it's not your thing, I'll gladly take it off your hands.

Went to grab a few flavors after hearing chatter about Laozi from multiple friends. I’ve never tasted any ice cream like this in the city - the texture is so buttery and densely creamy (in the best way). The King was a standout, but even the simplicity of the Dark Vader was super tasty - Sam said it would be the best chocolate ice cream I ever had, and he wasn’t wrong! Worth every penny for something new and different in the freezer! The kids loved it too!

OMG!! This is THE BEST ice cream ever! Its because its frozen custard, which means it is creamier and smoother than ice cream (I know- this blew my mind too!) This stuff is life changing! Sam makes the most creative and locally inspired flavors. Think Satsuma (instead of orange) Dreamcicle and Nectar Cream with condensed milk and housemade Creole Cream cheese. He takes his time with each batch from start to finish. You can see the love he puts into every single container if you follow him on Instagram!

Y'all Laozi just released their Mardi Gras ice cream, The King and The Queen! I picked up two Queens, and let me just say I'm so happy I purchased more than one. I'm already halfway through the first quart. I knew this ice cream was going to be amazing as soon as I took the lid off, the smell of almond just hit me in the face. The Queen tasted like almond wedding cake, and the buttercream cheese frosting just added another layer of deliciousness. Also, there were pieces of Nolita King cake throughout that melded well with the creaminess of the ice cream. Hands down, this is one of my favorite ice cream quarts to date.

Every quart is made with locally sourced, gourmet ingredients so the quality is always top notch. Hands down the best ice cream I’ve ever had although it’s not ice cream. It’s really frozen custard. The flavor combinations will blow your mind & your taste buds. Sam’s ideas are original and always delicious. He also makes the majority of ingredients from scratch. Get anything that has his half-baked brownies in it. They’re unbelievable! I’m almost reluctant to leave a review because I don’t want more competition for his creations, but he’s so awesome that he deserves the praise. He’s truly an artist & works like one.

Watching clips of how every single Flavor and texture is made and layered in to the absolute perfection that is the finished product is so exciting. This ice cream is the made with precision and utter love for making something delectable each time. The flavors have never been the same and have not let me down yet.. I have gotten well over 10 quarts since august! Not once have I been disappointed! Attention to detail and quality are the things that I expect from Laozi ice cream and again have not been let down yet!

This small batch ice cream maker has the most unique flavors I have ever heard of and he never misses with any of his concoctions! My absolute all-time favorite was “In the Land of Milk and Crunchy!” It was Captain Crunch infused cereal milk custard, crunch berry shortbread pie pieces, banana, and this completely magical salty sweet honey butter swirl that was the consistency of condensed milk but had a salty bite to it. I finished a quart in 2 days and was left wishing I had so much. He gives you such an inside scoop to his ingredient prep and ice cream making on his Instagram I just love the passion with which he creates his ice cream. If you’re in the New Orleans area, you need to to do your best to get your hands on some of his ice cream!

LIKE DEADASS. one of a kind. my life had a cultural reset when i first took a bite out of this ice cream. my eyes were wide open. you know that scene in ratatouille where remy is eating the fruit and he basically is having a huge experience like he's on another plane of existence? yeah when you eat this ice cream (especially the butter one Sam makes) you'll feel exactly like that. im literally losing my mind over this. i refuse to buy any other ice cream for this sole reason

I just recently learned about this amazing guy and his “where the hell you been all this time” ice cream! Ive gotten quite a few different ones and not one has let me down yet. Ever flavor he does is absolutely AMAZING. Definitely worth trying at least once. Some people complain about the price, so I have to remind them the WORK and LOVE this man puts into what he does, then they shut up, buy the ice cream and regret ever questioning it. The small batch ice cream scene in New Orleans is so incredible, and Laozi stands head and shoulders above the rest. The thing that separates what Sam does from the others is pure quality. The texture and creaminess of the custard base he makes is unparalleled - it's simultaneously dense, creamy, and completely saturated with flavor. The second aspect is the care that he takes to make sure each quart is loaded with chunks of whatever mad scientist concoction he's dreamed up that week - these work harmoniously to add to that texture and flavor that makes his product to special. Put simply, what he's doing is like Ben and Jerry's, only exponentially better. I used to rarely eat ice cream. Now I eat too much.

High Quality homemade Custard Ice Cream with weekly different flavors. One time, I finished the Cookie Pho Togo Container size in like 3 days, by myself. Wild and cool supreme flavors! Following Sam on Instagram is a must to see the next cool flavors. Besides the awesome flavors, Sam is very awesome and down to earth. Y’all. Ok. So, the owner drops his menu and sets up a pickup location. You show up, cash/Venmo ready, and tell him what kind of goods you want and he slips it to you out the back door. Sound like a drug deal? Well, his ice cream is euphorically good; it’s probably laced with something bc my fat butt keeps leaving early from work to make sure I’m early in line for my flavors.
