Reviews of Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream Shop
Very fortunate to have Sebastian Joe's in my cozy Linden Hills neighborhood. Hands down my favorite homemade ice cream in the Twin Cities with a friendly and playful staff. Great coffee and pastries too. The fireplace room and outdoor patio are pleasant spaces to relax and meet up with friends and family. Check it out!
Great selection of unique flavors of ice cream. They also serve coffee. I have only tried the ice cream so far. I got the vegan oreo ice cream. I love that they have dairy free options. However I thought it was a bit pricey considering the amount of ice cream on a waffle cone. Their indoor seating area needed some cleaning as well. The outdoor seating area was nice and spacious. Perfect for taking a group of friends.
5 star experience! Shop was clean, as were tables and seating area. Ice cream was delicious! Got the coffee and vegan strawberry flavor. Refreshing and creamy! Doesn’t lack any flavor even though it’s vegan. We went around 8:00 at night on a Monday and the place was pretty empty, but we didn’t mind😆 Really tasty ice cream and a great experience all around!
Been going to Sebastian Joe’s for a bit and had excellent experience today for my gf(who has a very extreme dairy allergy) with the help of Eddy who went above and beyond of grabbing a new bin to make sure there as no cross contamination and even grabbed and cleaned a new scoop. I couldn’t explain in words how grateful I was of how serious he had taken the allergy she has and precautions he made in order for her to enjoy a nice vegan dairy free Oreo ice cream option will be back again 10/10!
Best ice cream in Minneapolis hands down. We share the same birth year and I have been enjoying there ice cream from the moment I could eat it. My dog even rocks there merch.
Nice selection of ice cream treats, including lactose free options. Great little seating area inside and outside to consume your dessert before it melts.
We stopped in here last week which was the first week of February. I was amazed to see such a long line up in the middle of winter. Ice cream was just OK. I’ve had amazing ice cream and to be honest there’s nothing super special about this place. Maybe it’s the flavor I picked I will definitely give it another try next time I’m in Minneapolis. I highly recommend everyone try it for themselves.
Has stayed my favorite ice cream place throughout the 4 states I’ve lived in during my childhood. Nothing can beat the peanut butter or apple crisp flavors that make me giddy whenever I visit. It is a little pricey, but I find it to be worth it. Also, although I’ve heard other people say differently, I’ve never had a bad employee experience or been charged extra. This is the best place to get dessert in Minneapolis.
Awesome collection of ice creams and at a great spot to hangout with family and friends!
This has been a regular spot for us for years. Great ice cream and really nice building/outdoor seating areas. The staff is friendly and keeps the line moving. Considering how busy it can get, we always are able to find a seat.
Was honestly very disappointed with this ice cream shop. The girls behind the counter were rude. For two scoop waffle cones it cost almost $16. The ice cream was NOT that good- nothing special. The store was kind of cute with its fire place and seating area. I think this place is overrated.
Great family my ice cream shop--offering loads of flavors bit also dairy free options that are not just sorbet! (Though they could use more...) The dairy free cookie dough ice cream is quite good and pictured below. they are super family friendly with a great outdoor space where you can sit outside and enjoy your ice cream. However just being a couple blocks off Lake Harriet it makes it a perfect stop off point as you circumnavigate the lake on your evening walk. Good customer service and close to all the little shops of Linden Hills.
We were here on a Saturday evening. The place was not busy but people were coming and going. I tried the Pavarotti and it was pretty good. The shop is warm and cozy and has enough space inside to comfortably enjoy your ice cream with your loved ones. They also have enough parking space and a patio which is cool and is open during the warmer months. All in all it's a good ice cream place to visit.
Oreo sundae was pretty good, can't go wrong with hot fudge, cookies and cream, and whipped cream. Would've been nice to have less whipped cream and more ice cream. Service is fast, and prices are ok. Lots of options so I can't wait to go again!
I have been going to Sebastian Joes since I was a child! I worked there for a summer. Their ice cream is delicious, they have unique flavors and they have vegan options! They also have kosher ice cream!
The ice cream is absolutely delicious and all homemade. The line was out the door when we arrived but was totally worth the wait, and it went fast. It also has a really quaint outdoor seating area perfect for a beautiful summer night.
A great family ice cream parlour serving up delicious flavoured creamy ice cream to eat in or take away.
Great place!! Pavarotti flavor was very good even though I traditionally don’t like banana flavor ice cream. Shop is very clean.
Tasty ice cream. Was a fan of the Oreo and chocolate amaretto (tastes like mousse). No samples!
This place was suggested to check out and we were so glad we did! What cool ice cream joint! Service we top notch and polite, Ice cream was to die for.
I loved the flavors I tried and this location has amazing sit out. A must visit place for a nice cold treat in summer. There Oreo flavor is one of the best I had.
Great staff, NO need for more than one scoop. Nice outdoor atmosphere. Lines are long though. Duh… The Linden Hills neighborhood is a real nice “secret” place right west of Lake Harriet.
Ice cream part melted when scooped. Chocolate dipped cones a fun twist on a traditional waffle. Ambience is fun with great outdoor space!
Fast and friendly service. I had an Oreo filled ice cream on a stick that was heavenly. I would definitely recommend this place to others. Yummy 😋. …
I got the Nicollet Ave Pothole in a chocolate dipped waffle cone.
This was all extremely delicious which is why I’m giving it 5 stars. So take the next few critiques lightly.
1. I actually would have liked the cone to have been less dipped. I really didn’t taste the cone because of all the chocolate. Thankfully chocolate is also delicious.
2. The ice cream melted fast. Like way faster than most. We were all racing to eat it down to manageable size.
3. Mine leaked from the bottom. I wish some of that dipped chocolate was used in the bottom of the cone to block the hole. Like in drumstick ice cream cones.
4. I had no crunch nor taste of Heath bar in mine. Idk of my scoop didn’t have any, or if the flavor was just lost amongst all the chocolate.
Still 5 stars though.
Perfect stop after walking around Lake Harriet. Broad range of flavors, we did Blueberry and Pavarotti (yummy banana chocolate concoction). Great service, that comes with suggestions and taste samples.
Nice range of seating options inside and out. Granddaughter chose the open air Pavillion in order to lounge on top of the massive tortoise sculptures. Highly recommended for a cool treat.
Sebastian Joe's in Linden Hills is a great place to grab ice cream if you're spending time by Lake Harriet. The flavors are decent and the service is professional. There isn't anything that stands out as super unique but it's mainly a good location.
Busy place. Great options for ice cream varieties.
Sometimes it is difficult to predict how long it will take in the queue.
May be current staff shortages are also affecting SJ..
Very tasty. Definitely unique flavors offered. Nice atmosphere
Love this place. Been a family favorite for decades. Also, I didn’t know they were so pet friendly (on the outdoor patio)!
Can you say “pup cup”? (To be enjoyed outside - lest you have any food cleanliness worries!)
I will say that the prices are more than I like to pay. But the unique flavors are awesome. We definitely will not be back often due to the cost, but it’s a nice treat!
Ice cream was 4/5. The atmosphere made it a 5/5. Worth the stop. The waffle cone was good stuff no cap.
Terrific as always. As a regular the ice cream never gets old and the shifting of select flavors gives good variety options. The only detracting factor is that they do so well that sometimes the line is rather long and there's nowhere to wait comfortably if needed.
Personal recommendations: Raspberry Chocolate Chip or Pavarotti
Wonderful patio and yummy ice cream. The service was VERY good. My daughter has a nut allergy and they asked if I wanted them to open a new ice cream and new scoop!!! This is the right way to handle allergies!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
My absolute favorite place to get ice cream, in my opinion it’s the best ice cream in the city. Delicious flavors, plenty of spots to sit, and great service and ambiance.
Sebastian Joe's is an awesome place to spend a morning with coffee or an afternoon with ice cream. The outside sitting area is a wonderful place to talk with friends.
Delicious ice cream!! Nice environment! Great abd fast service. Clean place.
If I had to choose between the Uptown and Linden Hills location, I would give the nod to Linden Hills because of the indoor-outdoor patio and courtyard. Same flavors, but this one wins on ambiance.
This place is always busy. The location is perfect being so close to the lake and in linden hills. They are able to keep the line movie. There is a small area of indoor seating and there is a bunch of outdoor seating. I really like their ice cream, there are plenty of flavors and cone options. Lately I have been getting the ice cream sandwich with Oreo ice cream and it is my new favorite. 10/10 would recommend. They also have a public restroom inside and drinking fountain. This is the perfect family ice cream shop.
I go here often. Coffee and treats are great! Service is exceptional
Maybe I’m biased, but this is a great locally made ice cream. I saw an earlier review that someone gave because they had to wear a mask and if they knew there was a mask mandate in the city of Minneapolis maybe they wouldn’t have been such jerks with their star rating just saying. If you’re looking for creamy and unique ice cream flavors this is the place. They also have your standard flavors like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, but they’re made well and without food dyes. I like their vegan strawberry though I’m not vegan. If you’ve had Jeni’s Ice cream at the ice cream shop NOT from the grocery store and you liked it then SJ’s the place. If you like Baskin-Robbins than this place will exceed your expectations. Definitely check it out and hopefully you’ll have a good experience. I recommend getting more than one flavor should you give a review. I’ve been a customer since I was 16 years old and this is my first review for them. Honestly anyone giving a bad review about the ice cream is 1) unhappy 2) unhappy 3) not a true foodie. Basically don’t listen to unhappy people who know nothing about ice cream. PeriodT.
They have an amazing selection of ice cream, and the flavours are absolutely delicious- all locally made! The employees are wonderful too, they put up with all of my questions ;)
Thank you Sebastian Joe's for the treat!
Would’ve been 5 stars but they had no ice creams without eggs. The workers here are really nice.
Awesome service, delicious ice cream. Street parking available in front. Cute seating area with plenty of tables and chairs.
Nicollet pothole ice cream is truly outstanding and highly recommended. Customer service always excellent. I want to note that the ice cream melts very fast so be careful about taking a cone. There are typically long lines to get in and rather crowded. Be aware that not a lot of seating is available, either indoors or outdoors.
Good ice cream with several unique flavors and a vegan option. Very nice neighborhood feel and location. Cheerful, polite, quick staff. Line was out door when we arrived but we got through to checkout in about 5 minutes. Some indoor seating was available, too, plus outdoor seating by some fireplaces.
Good selection of ice cream flavors, some traditional and some unique. Very good quality.
This was our second time having Sebastian Joe’s (once from Waffle Bar’s food truck, and today in the Sebastian Joe’s shop). We were super excited because our first experience was amazing—the flavors and creaminess were on point, and we agree that this is definitely our favorite ice cream in the TC area so far.
Today unfortunately, I ordered hot fudge on my ice cream, and my husband ordered caramel on his, and they were both burnt. I didn’t realize it as much at first with the hot fudge because chocolate can be bitter, but the caramel was definitely horrible. My husband isn’t a complainer and rarely says anything negative about anything, but he asked me a few times if I thought the caramel sauce was weird. I didn’t realize how bad the sauces were until we finished, and we felt bad telling the staff about it because of how it could come across, and we didn’t want to be “those” customers. I feel so bad because the caramel mixed into all of my husband’s ice cream, turning everything gross and bitter, making his experience just bad.
Overall, you should definitely get ice cream from Sebastian Joe’s—it’s delicious. If you order a hot topping, make sure it’s not burnt, and if it is, don’t wait to bring it to the staff’s attention. Toppings should never be burnt at an ice cream shop, especially a specialty one.
**Update: I recently went to the Linden Hills location, and the hot fudge was delicious.
***2nd update: Haven’t had the hot fudge since last year, but Sebastian Joe’s is our favorite ice cream in the Twin Cities. Raspberry chocolate chunk is my personal fav 😋
Good selection of ice cream flavors locally made.
Great taste. Fast service. Nice outdoor setting area. Although we waited for around 20mins, but it worth the wait.
Best ice cream ever. Drove over 3 hours to meet a friend there and would do it again. A large variety of tantalizing flavors. I had salted caramel. Maybe raspberry|chocolate next time.
And an array of decorated cones.
Great ice cream, quick service, and great outdoor seating options. There is some seating that is semi-outdoors as well for really hot days.
Terrific ice cream and a beautiful neighborhood. There is parking just to the north side of the building but even if you have to walk a little bit it's a nice neighborhood walk. Oreo ice cream and a wafer cone made for a beautiful summer day. Lots of outdoor seating!
This ice cream shop is wonderful and is by far the best one I have ever been too. They have good variety and are not crazy overpriced. The entire place is lax and contemporary, yet the decorations are mixed and interesting, fitting well into the unique setting of the surrounding area. The staff are courteous and prompt. The sitting are has two parts, one under a roof but open and the other outside. It feels great to eat amazing ice cream while sitting down in this place.
Great staff, excellent ice cream. They've remodeled the inside and the flow for ordering is so much more efficient. If there's a line out the door, don't be intimated. The line moves quickly and the ice cream is worth it. Great outdoor space as well.
Sebastian Joe's is a top quality ice cream spot. With interesting flavors, but also staple flavors that wont alienate tame palettes.
The raspberry chocolate ice cream cake that we bought for my wife’s birthday was SO GOOD, I didn’t even care that it was $48!! Okay but seriously, hand-crafted anything is worth paying a premium for and I would totally buy it again. Trust me. You’re worth this cake too.
EDIT: thanks Seb J’s for bringing the one-star mistake to my attention! Fixed it for ya!
My friend and I visited this ice cream shop a couple days ago and really enjoyed it. It was rhe perfect place for an extremely hot day. The servers did a really good job handling multiple orders and people at a time. The shop was a little hard to find especially finding parking and it was a little busy but I would highly recommend.
Huge fan of Sebastian Joe's! Love their raspberry chocolate chip flavor. Outdoor seating is nice, very enjoyable atmosphere. I had some difficulty with using a giftcard and had little assistance. Hopefully I can use it next time!
The ice cream flavors are great! I also got medium roasted coffee beans and they are 10/10!
They have wonderful ice cream and a variety of other deserts. I hear they serve breakfast too. They have outside and inside seating, which is all well kept. The staff are friendly and the pricing is reasonable. Their portions are well measured and their bathroom is clean. There is only one bathroom, so you may have to wait in line. In the summer it can be quite popular, so the line can get long.
P.S. Get the Salted Caramel ice cream, it's delicious!
Hope this helps!
This is my favorite ice cream shop in the Twin Cities. It sits in the cutest section of Linden Hills. The outdoor space is especially charming in the summertime, and one of my favorite summertime activities is sitting on their outdoor patio having a delicious Sebastian Joe's ice cream cone. My favorite ice cream is the Oreo flavor, but honestly, I've never had a flavor that I did not like. Their recent remodel has made it even more special and inviting and comfortable to visit year-round. They also have coffee and other beverages if ice cream isn't your thing. Kids love to climb up on the tortoise sculptures out in the back yard. Even on the busiest summer night, service here is quick and there's always somewhere to sit. They have free water cups at the drinking fountain which always comes in handy. All around, I give this Sebastian Joe's ice cream shop five out of five stars because I love everything about it!
Good ice cream and coffee but the star is the patio. Almost has a European feel to it, very relaxed and inviting. One of my favourite places in the Twin Cities.
Bakery was low on items and selection. Raspberry scone and coffee was delicious. The outdoor seating area was not decorated yet in flowers, the water feature was gone and with the new building right next door...it is missing some outdoor charm.
Delicious ice cream and cones! Love the options. Wish they had samples but pandemic so I understand lol. Definitely a place worth visiting.
Sebastián Joe's used to have a lovely secret garden in the back. Now they have asphalt. Such a shame. The remodeled indoors has some of the charm but mainly looks like any generic ice cream shop. The oreo sundae seemed bland to me, not like I remembered at all. Just kind of bummed that such a cool place has been so homogenized toward mediocrity. No plans to return.
Busy place, but worth the wait. I love that they have so many different options not just for their ice cream but for different treats. I bypassed the ice cream and instead went with the root bear float ice cream cookie. The flavor was spot on for root beer, but not too overpowering. Tasty after dinner snack!
Really good ice cream. Amazing original flavors. Friendly professional quick service.
Wished you could pay before the ice cream is handed to you. That way no need to juggle ice cream wallet Bill's coins etc. OR have a cone holder device by the cashier :)
But overall exquisite great flavors with amazing cones.
Always one of our favorite stops after dinner in the Uptown area. There are enough ice cream flavors to make your decision difficult as well as several cone options. There are also a number of novelty items if you want something other than straight ice cream as well as great pastries, sandwiches and coffee for your breakfast or lunch stop. You won't be disappointed if you stop!

Sebastian Joe's is a Linden Hills institution. The ice cream and flavors are fantastic, as are the cones. Their chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches are equally legendary. Sitting on the patio on a summer night with the string lights overhead is the best way to get the full experience of this gem of an establishment.
Parking is tricky but that comes with the neighborhood. Walking around Linden Hills is part of the enjoyment, in my opinion, so I have no qualms walking a few blocks to reach this place when necessary. The proximity to Lake Harriet is the cherry on this ice cream sundae.
They have plenty of to-go options and they've been taking customer/employee safety very seriously since Covid, requiring masks and asking that customers distance themselves.
I cannot say enough good things about their ice cream. It's been a favorite for 25 years or so and still beats most places I've tried. You can't go wrong with the raspberry chip! Nice outdoor seating area with both covered and uncovered areas.
Easily the best ice cream in the area, and arguably the best in the whole state. They have a large variety of rotating flavors, as well as a good menu of coffee and other treats. If you're not sure what flavor to get, you can never go won't with Nicollet Avenue Pothole!
Great ice cream and cute location! They have a lot of vegan options and I noticed almost all of the flavors were kosher. The prices seemed a tad on the high end, but great nonetheless. The eggnog flavor tasted exactly like high quality Christmas eggnog.
Four stars for location and ambience. The service is wonderful, very helpful. The outdoor seating area has a relaxed feeling under the tall trees, iron patio tables and chairs, some gardening effort, and for the winter a fireplace. It's the ice cream that leaves me meh. Ice cream has become a big deal. Over the years having tried a wide range of ice cream SJ's ice cream struggles for a higher level of clarity and inspiration. It doesn't grab my taste buds. The ingredients seem a little ordinary. It still is a great neighborhood ice cream shop, we will just not be making a special trip to stop there. Considering the calories we will stick with our favorites.
Fun outdoor seating in beautiful patio area. Busy place on a hot day. Line moves very fast. We ordered the "ice cream social" for four adults and three kids, we each had a spoon and all got to try a few flavors. None disappointed!
We went before walking around lake Harriet and it was so good I stopped for a second cone after the walk😂 …
Delicious house made ice cream with lots of standard daily flavors and interesting special editions daily. Coffee is great, too. The staff is always friendly and helpful and both shop interiors are updated and comfortable and spotless!
Love the flavors that they have here. Lots of great choices. Really nice seating area at this location.
Had a less then stellar staff last time we were there, purchased two pints of ice cream, when we got home and opened them turns out they had huge air pockets, so we only got 3/4 of a pint in each.
Sebastian Joe's ice cream is my favorite place always but, the new flavor they have this summer is blueberry pomegranate. I generally like raspberry dark chocolate or mango sorbet. So someone who likes this type of ice cream should try bb pom that's my new favorite! Best local ice cream in town
Staff are always so helpful and friendly, the ice cream is SOOO good. Best thing outside of wisconsin custard that I've found. They the cookies and cream and salted caramel combo and you won't regret it!!! Mango sorbet is also soo dreamy
As usual, one of the best ice creams in town! And the other day I had just the chocolate dipped cone and didn’t realize that it was dark chocolate! First time I had dark chocolate dipped cone! Next time I’ll try to put some ice cream in that cone too! And they are open till 11pm! Wish they were open all night!
Here's the deal with Sebastian Joe's - it's got really really good rich premium ice cream and a lovely outdoor patio / garden to sit and relax. Prices are fair.
On busy summer nights the line and crowds can be absurd. A billion kids and filthy sticky tables. But still feels like summertime so worth going.
Midweek / mid-day or off-season it can be a charming coffee shop with ice cream. They do an ok breakfast sandwich. It's a common spot for post ride coffee w area cycling clubs.
It goes without saying that you should always get a single scoop of Pavarotti on a waffle cone.
Fun neighborhood ice cream shop on Lynden Hills. Always a good variety of different hard serve flavors as well as well as some specialty ice cream bars and shakes. They have a cute little patio on the side with lights and places to sit and enjoy your ice cream on a nice summer night.
The three most popular ice cream places in the Twin Cities include Izzy's, Grand Ole Creamery, and Sebastian Joe's - of which is my most favorite. Sebastian Joe's offers a wide variety of ice cream. The flavors they've concocted are original and preserve each ingredient's consistency - making their ice cream traditional in nature. Other ice cream parlors blend their ingredients so that the consistency is the same throughout. Sebastian Joe's mixes their ingredients so as to keep chocolate chips, candy bars, and other ingredients in tact. My favorite ice cream they offer is the Nicollet Pot Hole and Pavarotti. Their staff is helpful and friendly. Sometimes their locations can get a bit messy - as is the nature with ice cream during the summer. But their Linden Hills space is fun and inviting and during the summer I love eating ice cream on their garden patio. I do wish though that they would stay open later.
Great outdoor eatingon a Monday evening. Nice walk from Lake Harriet. Exceptional and quick service despite the line due to popularity. The ice cream flavors were many and free samples are available to help one choose the best for them.
Solid offering from this neighborhood pioneer. Open later than most, large indoors and outdoor space and very family friendly. Not the best ice cream in town but a neighborhood gem nonetheless. Recommended.
Sebastian Joe's has been one of my favorite ice cream shops since I was a kid. The Pavarotti ice cream is my favorite, although the Oreo ice cream is a close second. Great coffee, as well, and a pretty patio for nice summer days.
One of the better local ice cream shops in the city. A lot of fun flavors, but some quality old standards. Likely anyone can find something that will make them happy. They even have some vegan "ice cream".
Best ice cream in the Twin Cities (actually, best ice cream in the state). They have the most delicious Oreo ice cream ever! And their patio is wonderful! Great spot to get ice cream any time of the year.
Not much if a wait on this warm Saturday evening. Love the ice cream, especially 'Formerly known as Nicollet Ave.Pothole' and salted Carmel. Coffee drinks are excellent as well, but I wasn't looking for a hot beverage tonight. Delicious, creamy, hard to be beat ice cream!!
Delicious ice cream located in the quaint Linden Hills neighborhood shopping area in South Minneapolis. From time to time, I like to stop for a cone after a run at Lake Bde Maka Ska. “Nicollet Avenue Pothole” is my favorite flavor
love this linden hills neighborhood-- shop is cute with lots of outdoor patio seating and indoor area w lots of windows. Prices are on the high end - 4.00 for a fairly small scoop of ice cream. ice cream was good- lots of standard options and some crazy interesting options too -- like Surley brew ice cream and coffee chocolate w orange peel. About a 15 minute walk from Lake Harriet. Love spending the day at the lake and capping off with a walk here.
Been going here for 20 years! It's changed over the years but still one of my favorite outdoor patios in the twin cities. And great coffee and ice cream. Try the cafe Copa.
Great ice cream. It was almost 100 degrees and easy in and out too.
Delicious ice cream made on site, all of their flavors are great but slaty caramel is a must try! The line is long but it's worth the wait.
The kids and I looked online last week for a particular flavor we love! The flavor was listed. So, we went into the store last week and asked for the flavor. They said they did not have it. I said...'but your website says you do and I drove to pick up the kids then to come here'. They apologized, looked for the flavor in the freezer, then looked in the basement....and produced the flavor. This is the exceptional service I have grown to love and expect and have exampled for my family. I had to comment on this service (I forgot last week), given the horrible, horrible service I received at the Franklin location today, I understand, merely from the person's behavior they are not native to Minnesota...#Keepminnesotagreat
I had a great time. Live Music and the best Ice-cream in MN. ❤️
Most flavors are really good. They are on the higher end though. $4.00 for one scoop in a sugar cone or cup. I just had the sweet corn. It was good. Creamy and also corny. We always have to stop in when we're in Linden Hills.
It was memorial weekend, the line was kind of long but still the service went very fast. The workers were very nice and quick and helpful with suggestions. Parking is a little difficult but walking around is preferred anyways in that area. Beautiful scenery and lakes and houses to look at. Plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating. Recommend for everyone to try.
This place never disappoints. Who can turn down a scoop of raspberry chocolate chip ice cream from Sebastian Joe's, not me! Love the patio area as it is really relaxing - great place to hang out with friends and family.
I had a strawberry popsicle and it tasted very fresh. They had originally given me a watermelon popsicle by accident but I had no issue exchanging it for the strawberry popsicle I originally ordered. I also like the outdoors seating area, which is nice at night. The biggest letdown is some of the customers who insist on bringing their dogs, some of which smell bad after a long day of walking on a hot summer day.
I appreciated the fact that the ice cream was not sweet. However it tasted more like frozen yogurt than ice cream
Amazing flavors of ice cream. Super friendly staff. Cute outdoor seating.
Be aware street parking only.
I love the eclectic and daring flavors they try (I really enjoyed their roasted garlic almond chip ice cream!), and the fact that they would take a local brewer, Surly, and fashion their beer into an excellent ice cream flavor only endears them to me the more. The staff are generally cheerful or at least polite, and even very long lines on a hot day seem to move fairly quickly. I feel Sebastian Joe's is a local phenomenon that every resident should know and any tourist to the Cities should experience.
Don't listen to the guy who is complaining about the Zero Refill policy. Taste their ice cream and you will forgive them for that. Their Strawberry flavored ice cream is to die for. I don't eat ice cream very often, and 90% of the time it's from here. And I actually live in North Dakota, so that tells you something!
Cute patio, friendly baristas! Will be back when nearby~
Sebastian Joe's is the best ice cream in The Cities and Linden Hills is my favorite location. They are an established community partner and are now known and loved by multiple generations of families. SJ is the original ice cream company to produce a variety of creative flavors that varies throughout the year.
Epic. If you are in the Twin Cities I recommend stopping by for a double scoop of Raspberry chocolate chip and Oreo...
Atmosphere and patio excellent!! The raspberry chip ice cream pretty good, but the cappaccino was terrible. It was nothing but a med cup full of foam and maybe 1 tablespoon of coffee at the bottom. The worst I've ever had....and I wasted $5 on it. 😞 …
Pavarotti ice cream is legit! The customer service not so much. They didn’t know what was in the sundae I ordered and seemed stressed out. Also the woman we ordered from was a bit rude. At a high end ice cream shop I expected better but this place is still awesome.
Really good ice cream!
Always a great experience and wonderful flavors
Great ice cream. Lots of great and unique flavors for everyone including vegan and gluten free. In a fun and upcoming area. Little pricey but definitely worth it.
Amazing ice cream. Fantastic coffee. Mediocre pastry. Focus on the ice cream. The sorbet is also superlative.
Best cookies & cream ice cream in town. Great summer ambiance, cute neighborhood. Kids love it. So does the pup.
The store is small and during rush the line goes down the street, but it was well worth the wait! I had the chocolate cinnamon pretzel flavor and was not disappointed. They also have a selection of coffee and snacks, but I didn't try any.
Excellent selection of ice creams; make it an affagato and you'll thank me later.
Yummy ice-cream and plenty of seating space. Lots of delicious flavor choices. Raspberry chocolate chip was our favorite.
Another great ice cream shop of the Twin Cities that makes their own. If you want to hit them all this should be on your list. Nice patio area as well and close to a toy store.
Beautiful place indeed. Tried the Vegan pomegranate ice cream, taste amazing! Will visit again for sure.
Great little area with accesible entrance and parking. There's a patio to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Smoothie wasn't the greatest for my friend but the banana boat was to die for!!
Always have loved Sebastian Notes ice cream... great balance between the cream and ice... not too creamy where it melted right away and not too hard where it breaks your cone while you eat it... awesome unique flavors to boot
Loved that our grandson enjoyed his Mango Sorbet.
One of my favorite places in Minneapolis. Great atmosphere, ice cream and the employees are always friendly.
Sebastian Joe's is the best ice cream in the Twin Cities! So creamy and delicious! And this location is extra special with outdoor seating and a welcoming vibe!
Delicious and refreshing ice creams and sorbet. I tried a Blueberry Pomegranate ice cream that was made with coconut milk. It was delightful and so creamy. I would come back here the next time I'm in town visiting.
Sebastiaan Joe’s has been serving great ice cream for years and always had quality, refreshing ice cream and flavors. With an outdoor patio to enjoy the the taste and summer evening with family and friends.
This is such a pleasant place to enjoy ice cream outside on the patio. There is an outdoor fireplace for the colder months. Great vibe and great ice cream. We will be back!
Good ice cream. Not as many flavors as I had hoped. But they gave us free doggie treats!
We'll be back for sure!
Favorite ice cream place!! Oreo is by far the best flavor!
The ice cream is great. Unfortunately the line was very long the night we were there, so it is not a quick outing. It was also challenging to know what some of the flavors had in them based on their names.
Super creamy rich ice cream. Some of the best in town. Good ambiance. Good service. Can't go wrong there. Out of town guests love it.
Great ice cream + great service. They have a few dairy free options on the rotation too.
This place is a must visit in the summer, even if you're only in town for a few days! They have all kinds of wonderful and interesting ice cream flavors, and even their plain old vanilla is exceptional!
Prices were high and servings were small, however the ice cream is definitely in my top 5. Highly recommend it for the ice cream if you have the money to spend.
First time here. I love the patio. The ice cream was good but not sure if it warrants the price. They were some interesting flavors.
Such delicious ice cream
The rum one is excellent. A little soft but still perfect.
Amazing old school Ice Cream Shoppe feeling! Wonderful customer service and friendly!! And the ice cream was so delicious! Recommend the raspberry chocolate chip!
Great ice cream and so many other menu options! Pretty and shaded outdoor seating too. Fun place for social meet ups. Fun place! :)
A nice place to take the kids if you're down by the lakes. Most ice cream is specialty made in house. Chocolate dipped waffle cones with butterfinger are dynamite!
Delicious as always!! It was disappointing that the staff (in particular the female that served us) wasn't wearing plastic gloves or hadn't washed their hands to handle the cones, pandemic or not.
We always go the Uptown Sebastian Joe's but found ourselves further south and Google Maps bright us to this smaller one we'd never been at. Very quaint, but equally as delicious! Will be back next time we're in the neighborhood.
The best Ice cream hands down in the state! I love the Nicolette ave pot hole flavor !
Good ice cream. Should go back and see what else they have. They were very polite in answering my boyfriend's questions about which flavors were gluten free. Super helpful!
Ice creams are toooo sweet!! U tend to get sick of it after two three bites, one of the flavours had salt :p totally yuck! Id have known if they had something that tells you that cz the name of the ice cream sure dint give that away all in all it was nasty! It's called pot hole something
The best ice cream in town! So many delicious flavors and awesome location. Grab a cone and walk around Lake Harriet
The line is out the door on the weekends with due cause- absolutely delicious ice cream! This location also boasts a great outdoor space to eat it- if you can find a table!
Great atmosphere and music. The person working 2.25.22 in the afternoon was so gracious! We’ll be back!
Great ice cream and setting. They have vegan options and so many choices. Take your cone outside and sit on their shaded patio.
The ice cream is fantastic, with many unusual flavors to go with the normal offerings. Friendly service along with a relaxed atmosphere adds to the experience.
Amazing customer service, great seating and really good ice cream. Best Affogato I've ever had. Bathroom was a little rough but does what you need it to.
Now that they got dairy free ice cream for us who are allergic, it's great! They have 2 vegan flavors made from coconut milk every day!
Having grown up in the Twin Cities Sebastian Joe's was a staple of my teenage years - bombing up to Lake Harriet on a summer evening to grab a scoop with friends. Their Oreo ice cream is synonymous with my teens. Now living in the U.K. I make a pilgrimage back every time I come back to visit family. My wife, who grew up on Italian gelato, failed to believe that Sebastian Joes could be as wonderful as I said, or begin to compare to the European ice cream offerings....until she tasted Nicollet Avenue Pothole (now formerly known as). Life changer. We have since gone vegan and our return to MN this year was filled with a little bit of sadness knowing that our Sebastian Joes pilgrimage would no longer be quite so decadent. But then behold, they have vegan flavours. Yes, the options were limited (only chocolate and strawberry), and yes the ice cream was already somewhat melts/soft when scooped, but *#%? the flavours were still really good. The chocolate was deep and smutty, and the strawberry was vibrant, light and not sickeningly sweet. Thank you Sebastian Joe's. Now get on making a vegan (formerly known as) Nicollet Pothole! :)
Great ice cream and kind staff! The ice cream quality is exceptional and the flavor selection is amazing.
It's been in the neighborhood as long as I can remember (since the 80s) and even though I moved I still make Sebastian Joe's part of my pilgrimage when I'm back in town. I usually have a hard time deciding between the ice cream and the coffee drinks (the afogado is an excellent compromise).
Some of the best icecream in Minneapolis! One of two locations. During the warmer months, the line will be out the front door and up the street, but the icecream is worth the wait
We love it here and have been on many dates here. The flavors and ice cream are great. Always good to go.
The best Oreo ice cream I've ever had. Fun place to hang out or take to go and walk the neighborhood or down to Lake Harriet.
Always a great place to go on a nice summer day. Great ice cream and a good place to sit and eat it. My favorite is the raspberry chocolate chip with hot fudge!
Delicious as always🙂 …
Love this place! Ice cream is delicious. Super cute outdoor seating.
Always a long queue, unless you want coffee and ice cream for breakfast ;)
Still the best ice cream spot in town, hands-down. Creamy and sweet, but not overly-so. Highly recommend their oreo ice cream.
Ice cream was really good and it's a neat little place.
Really great place to grab an ice cream cone and chill on the patio. Great ice cream! Can get crowded due to small space but they move fast and have a great patio and ambiance
Best ice cream in the city. Oreo, Nicollet Pothole and Raspberry Chocolate Chip are top flavors.
Delicious ice cream and coffee. A true gem of Minneapolis with multiple locations spanning throughout the city. Take out-of-towners here for a delectable and creamy treat.
Great DF ice cream and a very comfortable seating area
Happy to see this place humming along 20 years after I first started indulging my favorite pregnancy craving for SJ's Pavoratti. The baby is now a Jr. in college, we left Linden Hills for the W coast & Pavarotti is just an occasional luxury on visits to family. Charming family spot, spectacular ice cream!!
Seriously the best ice cream in town! And a wonderful ambiance in a jumble of indoor and outdoor spaces to savor your treat in!
Pricey but great! Really...The best ice cream in town if you can afford it. A very special treat on special occasions.
My favorite is the Caramel Cinnamon Swirl! Twin cities best nice cream in my opinion. Grab a cone and sit on the patio. Has great vibes
Always a good place to get delicious creamy ice cream. Sit down and chill atmosphere. Usually busy because it's a popular place.
Great choices in flavors. I can't remember the name of the caramel, espresso, blended ice cream drink, but it was phenomenal!!
Still probably the best ice cream in the Cities and always coming out with new flavors to keep it up there. I'm Oreo all the way, but they'll have something for anyone.
Great ice cream. Worth the drive.
Awesome patio in a nice neighbourhood, friendly staff, and great ice cream. Can't ask for much else. A little pricey, but worth it.
I love this location and the patio space. The ice cream doesn't disappoint either ;)
Love this ice cream and the rest of what they offer is notable as well. Great patio steating, great for the family or a place to chat with some friends.
Not sure how this shop got so many stars. Ice cream here is nothing special. I've made homemade ice cream better. Went out of my way to find this place too. Very disappointed.
A little spendy, but they claim to help the community out so I didn't mind spending the 7 dollars for two scoops of ice cream. Friendly staff and warm environment.
Great selection of ice cream flavors, excellent coffee and wonderful customer service! We highly recommend this family and pet friendly establishment!
Really like this place. They have a lot of ice cream flavors to choose from and the interior seating area is very cute.
Great place for ice cream treats. Can get very busy. Much better with the expansion of seating and more enjoyable ambiance.
What a treat! I had the Pavarotti - simply delicious. Easily one of the best ice cream I have had - highly recommended!
Awesome ice cream flavors, long line but amazingly quick. Nice outdoor seating too.
Solid Ice Cream. They have Winter Deals, based on Temperature outside what percent you get off :). Friendly Staff. Clean Establishment. Overall Worth a Visit!!!
Nice ice cream shop with strawberry and chocolate vegan options. Nice outdoor seating area but a little noisy with airplanes flying over.
It's interesting that different locations have different flavors.
Excellent raspberry dark chocolate ice cream cake. It was a huge hit for my daughter's 16th birthday!
The best ending to date night!
Great ice cream, close enough to Lake Harriet to walk for a scenic place to enjoy your ice cream or for a nice cool down after some laps!
Great fun and cozy place. Super selection of ice cream and any kind of coffee you'd want. A little gem here.
The best ice cream in the cities. Highly recommend the flavors raspberry chocolate chip and nicollet pothole.
I truly believe it was the raspberry chocolate chip and Oreo ice cream pints I gave my now wife on our first date that made her continue going out with me. A Minneapolis tradition.
Absolutely delicious ice cream and the atmosphere with the patio is great.
Thank goodness for their gallon of oreo ice cream. It solves SO many of my trivial 1st world adult problems and makes it possible to listen to painful President speeches...
Fav place for ice cream in mpls! you can sit down in the patio space to eat, and the surroundings are very cute, too!
Great ice cream, love the outdoor patio. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for here!
Really great tasting ice cream and the Heath chocolate dipped cone was an added treat! They did not disappoint.
Many flavors, community feel, large outside sitting area with seating for about 40 uncovered and another 30 covered.
Sebastian Joe's is the best ice cream in the Twin Cities. Their pumpkin and egg nog flavors are to die for, and the heated patio is a winter must.
The pothole ice cream is unparalleled. Seriously, you've got to try it.. update 2022 - still the best
Excellent ice cream, a little expensive for so few options. Excellent design, great for a summers day
Always enjoy going to Sebastian Joe's in Linden Hills. In addition to the delicious ice cream, it's a great place to hang out with the family.
Great ice cream!
OK, I love the ice cream. But I believe it is way too expensive. $4.20 for small. What?!
I'm going elsewhere.
Fresh made every day. And some of the best unique flavors in town (exceeded, perhaps, only by Milk Jam Creamery on Lyndale).
Will definitely go back! Some basic ice cream choices and some fabulous ones. Love it!
A neighborhood classic, this place has been a cornerstone of the are for as long as I've lived here. Great ice-cream and also a good place to study.
Thumbs up for a local ice cream shop. Nice selection of flavors.
All ice cream made by hand daily they make their own waffle cones. Fantastic flavors
Sebastian Joe's has been one of my favorites for years. Amazing ice cream with great variety and friendly staff.
Very nice staff, great attitude even under construction. Great patio. Delicious icecream!
I didn't find my favorite flavor....and it is a little pricey, but it is a cozy little place to enjoy a bowl or a cone.
This has been my favorite ice cream shop since I was a little kid. I’m now 25 and still struggle to find anywhere better
Their Oreo and Raspberry Chocolate Chips are the best !!!
Wonderful ice cream and friendly people. Really nice neighborhood.
My family took me here for the first time two years ago. I moved here from the south and could not believe the great taste of Sebastian Joe's ice cream. Have been back several times since.
Super awesome selection of ice cream. Love the Pavarotti ice cream!
Ice cream is very tasty. Nice employees. Very good place for a date night
Busy in the summer, these photos were taken 5 mins before closing! Totally worth it though.
Best ice cream, hands down. I would recommend niccolet pothole a chocolate ice cream with peanut utter cups, sea salt, fudge and chocolate chunks.
The raspberry chocolate chip simply is the best ice cream in the world. You can't beat it.
Cozy place to have an ice cream cone in the winter. Love their vegan and dairy free offerings.
they often have 2-3 different flavors of banana at once which is great for me
Great ice cream. Cool atmosphere. A friend has his morning coffee here
Nicollet Avenue pothole ice cream is delicious along with Mounds ice cream. Definitely need to come back!!!
Always a joy! Normally people think of ice cream, but it's also a great coffee shop!
Best Ice Cream in the Twin Cities 😍 😋 🍦🍨🍦 😋 😍 …
This is a wonderful ice cream shop tucked away in Linden Hills, not far from Lake Harriet.Their cookies and cream ice cream is the best!
Excellent place, lots of flavors to try, great atmosphere ! Btw they also prepare great coffee!!
Amazing little shop with great outdoor seating and vegan and dairy free ice cream options!

Great ice cream flavors. Chocolate covered waffle cones with sprinkles! yum!
Best ice cream in the Twin Cities
Employee of the year work here. Funny and smiles make the best icecream twice excellent.
Yum! Revised lines. A must do. Street parking, difficult accessibility, restroom. Ice cream worth the hassle
Better know what you want when you get up to the front, because they serve customers quickly. But the choice should be easy: Nicollet Pot Hole. Delicious.
Great place! Osie was extremely helpful and recommended Nicollet Hole, which was heavenly!
Best ice cream in the Twin Cities. SO many unique flavors.
Raspberry- chocolate chip. Num! Not inexpensive, but delicious! And a wonderful patio to enjoy a summer night!

Great Rocky rocky(formally: Nicollet Avenue pothole)road ice cream, friendly staff. Go there!
Tasty stuff, but what ice cream shop doesn't have mint chip at all times? 50dkp minus!
Where else can you get a half a scoop of icecream for five bucks plus tip.... very good if not a little pricey......
Great homemade ice cream. Got to try the award winning Raspberry Chocolate Chip!
Their ice cream is good, but their prices are about double what they should be.
I loved this place, nice and clean, great spot to meet friends.
Great ice cream and coffee! It was the best Americano I've ever tasted!
Best place in town for ice cream, besides the other Sebastian Joe's... Let's call it a tie.
Missing many of the standard flavors. Too focused on ice cream substitutes.
This is the quirkiest and comfiest Sebastian Joe's location. And Chocolate Coyote--why has no other ice cream parlor figured this out?
Awesome icecream shop! I love being able to walk there in the evening!
Delightful neighborhood ice cream joint. Best place to get your fix fulfilled
Ice cream is okay, too sweet for my taste. The nut toppings tasted rancid.
Best ice cream ever! Be prepared to wait in line, but the wait is worth it!
I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream and Sebastion Joe' s is the best in Linden Hills.
Awesome neighborhood ice cream shop. Thanks for keeping vegan options available!
