This is the best ice cream in Milwaukee; a must visit for your sweet tooth. The line was out the door at 9:40pm on a Saturday night! They let you have two samples and there’s just too many delicious flavors to choose from; it’s a difficult decision. There’s also a wall of news articles and reviews raving about this place; the quality product lives up to the reviews.

We were at Dan Dan’s for dinner and the server there recommended this place for ice creams. I need to go back and thank that server because the ice -creams here were amazing. They have a variety of flavors and each one tastes incredible. Friendly staff serving generous scoop of ice cream. We tasted a few and finally got the raspberry sorbet, vanilla, and Old fashioned. The ice cream was great. Next time I am getting the full flight which gives you four scoops of ice cream. Quick shout to the freshly made waffle cones they smell amazing. Overall I really enjoyed it and will be back for more. Would recommend it to anyone

Good vibes, with friendly staff, conveniently located. Unique flavors and locally made! Great hours on a summer night! Was bummed they didn’t have waffle cones, and the garbage was quite overfilled. On the pricier side, but I respect the fact they have compostable utensils and ice cream bowls! Would still recommend.

Purple Door Ice Cream is a cute little place in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward with scoop ice cream in a variety of interesting flavors including: Brandy Old Fashioned, Vegan Graham Cracker, Salted Honey, Blueberry Buttermilk, Dinner in Belgium, and Raspberry Green Tea. Yeah, it's not your typical scoop shop. We really loved the Lime with Blackberries, btw. Up to, two, free, samples are provided upon request. Fresh waffle cones are made in house daily. They also offer sundaes, shakes, and ice cream cakes. Of course, they have sprinkles too. Barstool seating is inside with cafe tables outside. The staff is friendly and the line (mooves) quickly enough... Get it?!

It has a lot of marketing in this place, I saw a lot of good reviews, but it is just a ice cream store. A lot of people waiting in line, staff are very friendly. You can taste 2 flavors only, they change the flavors constantly and it is just a ok ice cream.

Friendly staff and great local flavor selection. I had pumpkin and almond/cardamom flavors— both were super tasty and I’d love to get them again. The ice cream is thick and creamy, almost reminding me of custard. Definitely will be back!

We stumbled upon this place as we were strolling through the neighborhood. All 8 flavors we had were perfectly flavored (and pairing some flavors was a flavor explosion). The “flights” option allows you to try more than 1 flavor, def shareable (we couldn’t choose and landed up with 2 flights, 8 flavors!). Generous scoops and really nice employees.

Had a full flight of ice cream for sharing - $7.69. Very unique flavors and rich creamy taste. The spicy chocolate was a bit too spicy for us, so good thing we had 3 other scoops to douse the flame! Hands down best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. Just a little tip, if you’re waiting in a long line keep the door closed or you’ll get yelled at. A bunch of drunk girls got yelled at like 3 times and it was a total vibe kill, but the ice cream was so good that for a second I forgot about my fathers passing. RIP 5/30/22

My favorite is the cinnamon ice cream (and I usually get that because I can’t resist), but they have so many amazing flavors! I’ve had the cookies and cream and the purple moon, and have tried a spoonful of some others—and they’re all incredible. It’s probably my favorite ice cream place in Milwaukee. I think it’s best on a waffle cone, but the pints are great for later (and they sell it at other stores if this one is closed). Highly recommend!

Really good ice cream and a friendly staff. We got a two-scoop bowl with one scoop of Whiskey ice cream (from Great Lakes Distillery, which we had just visited) and one of Bourbon Praline Pecan (made with Woodford Reserve). Both were very good and it was very creamy. This particular combination could have benefited with some mix-ins, but most flavors have plenty of mix-ins already.

Please come here!!! Customer service is out of this world friendly and the ice cream, always delicious. My BF and I visit MKE once a year and come here every time. We share a flight (of four flavors) between us both and it’s plenty. This time around both of our favorite flavors was the “Door country cherry chocolate chunk”. Place, bathroom were clean, service efficient and charming. Can’t say enough good about this business.

Warning! Don’t walk in. This place is addicting. The ice cream is amazing and made fresh on their premises. The waffle cones are made daily and the chances of you seeing them making more is highly likely. The staff are extremely friendly. I love the Whisky, Old Fashion and caramel ice cream. Truly, you can’t have a flavor you won’t enjoy.

Visiting a friend for the weekend and she recommended Purple Door as a must. We ordered a Chocolate Sorbet (vegan - pudding like consistency) and a White Russian - both were delicious!! Great business strategy to rotate ice cream flavors to keep customers coming back for more - there are unique ones that you can try with a mini flight rather than buying a whole scoop and regretting it. Very fairly priced as well. Happy to support a local business, especially when there is ice cream involved :) We waited in line for about 30 minutes (around 6:30pm). They are following social distancing guidelines by limiting the number of customers inside and requiring masks. Worth the wait.

Creative flavors and concepts, but the tastes themselves weren’t revolutionary. It’s America’s fairyland after all, so it wasn’t bad, but I think I’m getting a picky taste for ice cream. My favorite part was the tasting flight, where you got to choose four flavors. Sadly, most of our flavors were very subtle :(. People were really nice and service was easy.

A truly unique Milwaukee experience! Take first-rate small batch ice cream, and combine it with completely one-of-a-kind flavors, and you have The Purple Door. The only downside is that regular ice cream is disappointing after you've been here a few times! My advice, order something you'd never think of ordering...and if you're not quite sure, ask for a taste!

Overall a very hopping place with some really interesting flavors of ice cream. Had the large flight which was a better value than just getting 2 scoops. It was definitely more expensive and a lesser value, as far as serving size, than I expected. The flavors themselves were really unique and something you might find in a gelato shop--tho a little more muted here. Good place to try once but Leon's is better but less creative.

Best ice cream I have had in my life!!! So creamy and soft! I got the black berry one and hubby got a fruit loops ice cream, they had a special ice cream for breakfast going on and the waffles tasted like donuts! We visited in February and they were closed down to sit down eating. They have alcoholic flavors too, so many choices I have never seen before. Free Street parking. If you are ever in the area stop in, you won't be disappointed!!! YUM, YUM, YUM!

Rather than having cake at our wedding, we booked Purple Door to cater our event. We had Salted Caramel and Door County Cherry Chocolate Chunk ice cream and the flavors were the cherry on top for the evening. We had so many compliments on how tasty the cold treat was and would highly recommend to have them cater your next event. Donna was accommodating and the service was very affordable. Not to mention, we got to take two gallons home to savor the treat for ourselves 😊.

Over 16 rotating flavours, many which use local ingredients from places like Stone Creek Coffee Mocha and Anodyne espresso, Great Lakes Distillery, Lakefront Brewery. They give samples and have a happy atmosphere that makes adults feel like happy little kids. The waffle cone is homemade and amazing. A great place to also spend some time for meeting friends or even a date with yourself! Example flavours: Earl Grey with Biscuits, Spicy Chocolate, Double malted chocolate, Honey Vanilla, Raspberry Green Tea!

This place is SUPER good!! I tried the whiskey flavor and the Mt Merry Berry. Both were excellent and paired very well together. My wife, who absolutely hates the flavor of anything alcoholic, actually liked the wiskey flavor too. It does taste like whiskey but not in a strong or overpowering way. I also really appreciate the rainbow flag in the window. Its probably insignificant to most but it always warms my heart when a small business supports the LGBT community because doing so could potentially have a negative impact on their business. For example, I am ashamed to admit I could probably eat gallons upon gallons of Honey Vanilla. My new favorite is Mountaintop Cold Brew Blackberry Chip! I went to purple door on the night of the 17th in August. Me and my bf wanted ice cream and loved it the last time we came so we returned. When I got to the front I was greeted by a really nice guy, he was very happy and smiling. He was friendly and easy to talk to and very fun to be around. He made our average ice cream run into laughing and joking around. It was so busy yet he was still patient and very nice even under stress! At the end I asked him about his eyebrow piercing and he was happy to answer! Whatever he’s getting paid, it’s not enough. I came for the food ice cream, now I’m retuning because of the amazing customer service! Thank you so much!! (I never get your name I’m sorry!)

I found this ice cream shop searching and decided to try it when my friend came to visit. Everyone that worked there was fun, personable, and knowledgeable of all things flavor! I only had to sample the “Purple Moon” new vegan to fall in love. They give a great portion size for the cost. You cannot beat homemade! My friend is back home in NC and still talking about it. I’d definitely recommend.

Always the best; the line moves, it's so worth the wait. Ride your bicycle and show your bicycle benefits sticker for 20٪ off. The kiddie scoops of this rich ice cream are still generous and very economical. Venture and get a flavor you have never had in an ice-cream!

Oh my goodness the flavors…they are all so good? Only thing I was disappointed in was the vegan flavor I tried (Graham Cracker). Trust me, I love vegan ice cream as much as (if not more than) dairy ice cream, but the consistency of the vegan ice cream was kind of bad and the coconut flavor from the alt milk really overpowered it. OVERALL though - you should ABSOLUTELY come here (and maybe stick with dairy-based flavors if possible).

Delicious, homemade, and unique ice cream and sorbet treats that are as local as you can get. My personal favorite is the molasses cookie espresso ice cream sandwiches. Wow, just wow! So many flavors to try. The use of decadent dark chocolate chunks mixed with flavors such as Raspberry and Malted Chocolate are wonderfully satisfying. Pints to go, although I wish they also had quarts. Curbside pickup and local delivery are very handy during COVID, but can't wait to again take friends into the store. For a special family gathering at home try the ice cream kits--Do it yourself Sundae, Root Beer Float, Ice Cream Sandwiches. Located just a few steps south of the Third Ward and worth the short trip!

Icream shop with daily new flavors and classics as well. Somewhat expensive in comparison to chain icecream, but makes up for it in variety, novelty, and specialty. Purple door is for those looking to experience icecream. Purchased: Double scoop on waffle cone (made fresh daily), flavors cinnamon and chocolate (wonderful combo!) Priced at around $7.00 with tip. I will admit, it is a huge amount of icecream so it was worth the splurge. A friend purchased a scoop of the purple icecream flavor and shared, it was divine! Definitely worth a try. Will come again for a special occasion, I love icecream.

I do love this place a whole lot. Every time I went here it was just so friendly, so nice all the time, and very timely! They do offer samples if you want to see how something will taste, and have a variety of cones available! Places to sit inside like a real ice cream parlor, and the seats are comfy to sit in. They make everything in-house it seems, and they stock their fridges with ice cream that you can buy by pint and by gallon, ice cream cakes, too, I believe. But I will always recommend eating the ice cream fresh, of course! So many selections too, no wonder they are given awards and sometimes have a line out the door despite being fully staffed!

I could not decide what flavor to get. I was standing and staring at all their flavors and the staff handed me samples without me even asking! I took such a long time trying to decide that the staff helped me out and recommended I get a mini ice cream flight. They could not have made my decision any easier. They come in 4 mini scoops in mini cake cones! How cute! I tried the Tamarind + Cinnamon, Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Brandy Old Fashioned, and Butternut Squash. They were all so good! Their exotic flavors are fun. 10/10 would recommend to everyone and anyone to live a little and try their fun flavors! I love ice cream & I love Purple Door.

For Milwaukee- the land of custard- the ice cream is pretty good. Flavors are a bit eclectic and creative. However, I would recommend they have a few flavors without so many out there ingredients on hand for those with food allergies. There are a lot of nut based and other common allergen based flavors and people in my group could not get ice cream due to it. But, those who could eat it all have rave reviews.

Perfect! Crowded for a reason, so bring yer mask! Waffle cone was crispy and tender, door county cherry was balanced with cherries, a lil’ benzaldehyde-like flavor and chocolate chunks that were suitable for ice cream! Highly recommend!

Hands down the best place to get ice cream in Milwaukee. But don't settle for vanilla. Purple Door always has new and interesting flavors (200+ that rotate through), and that's where they shine. Some of my favorites include: Lime with Blackberries, Peanut Butter, Honeycomb, Absinthe, Jelly Donut, Toffee Coffee, Bourbon Praline Pecan, Chai with Pink Peppercorns, Caramel Apple, Lemon Cardamon, Espresso, Black Licorice, Spiced Pear Sorbet, Chocolate Peppermint, Pistachio, Chocolate Cinnamon, Salted Caramel, Raspberry Green Tea, Mocha, and Honey Black Pepper. Yes, I've been many times. Highly recommend getting a flight!

I visited the Mequon location of Purple Door Ice Cream and had the Salted Caramel/Lemon Cardamom split single scoop. Which is really a nice option for a small extra charge to try different flavors. Both flavors were creamy and dreamy. I highly recommend trying both flavors. They day I was there they were offering four mini scoops with four toppings for $6. Will definitely try that soon and it is nice that they give free samples to help you make your decision.

We had a stellar time here. We got here just minutes before a rush at this location. They were very nice and patient with allowing us samples. We received generous servings of ice cream here. Variety of flavors and some are very unique. They had a cooler off to the side for a variety of sizes of pre-packed ice cream (paid off when one of our family members wanted a different flavor). The line was out of the door and probably another 10-15 outside waiting. I was shocked how busy they were, but the staff kept their cool (no pun meant). Another place for us to come to, Uber was easily obtained and we headed out.

Their selection is good and I come here a couple times in the warmer months. They are usually pretty busy and you'll most likely end up standing and eating your ice cream outside if you do go in the summer. My favorite is their fruit based ice creams, especially the blackberry lime. Only complaint is the price, it's about $3-$4 a scoop.

I had Espresso, which was really good but had strong flavor, but some of the flavors are weaker and taste different than their names. For example, the Chocolate Whiskey tasted more like Cinnamon. Otherwise, the unique flavors are worth a taste!

Downtown Milwaukee's snazzy little place to pick up quality ice cream. There's around 15 memorable flavors "on tap" including unique ones like whiskey and rum. Ice cream servers are polite and even, one time, gave me a free upgrade to waffle cone for my birthday (but ymmv). The area outside has wonderful sitting areas to enjoy your friends or by yourself. They sell take home pints and quarts of some flavors and they're well worth it.

Throughout the entire process, Donna was professional, kind, and supportive and the team serving on the day of our wedding did a fantastic jo. At first I was debating whether or not to come here because there are so many delicious custard shops in Milwaukee but I am really glad that we decided to! We had the whiskey and green tea ice cream, which were both very good, garam masala, which was our personal favorite, and beer & pretzels, which was mediocre. I think the pretzels ruined that one for me because they would soften in the ice cream and I like them crunchy. We did buy two pints to take home with us and unfortunately they melted in our cooler and they just weren’t the same after refreezing them. I really like that you can order a flight of ice cream so that way you don’t have to just settle on one flavor. Overall, the ice cream was really good and so was the service. I can’t wait to see which flavors they have the next time I am in Milwaukee!

The espresso bourbon ice cream is sooo good. Highly recommend with oreos as a topping. I also loved that they had a water jug so you could get some cold water while waiting in line. It was perfect on a hot summer evening.

Very unique, interesting, and gum place to go. The icecream is great, and people who work are are just as nice to be around. The icecream flavors sometimes may sound odd but each one is good in its own way. I went there twice so far, once with my mom and a swcond time with a friend, both times I had alot of fun. The only issue I could find with this place is the wait (there can be alot of people, especiall late at night), but it is well worth it because of the great icecream. Over all, I had a very good time here, and it was a very cool experience (pun very much intended). I plan on coming back many more times.

So I went to purple door because I had heard big things about it and how great there ice cream was.So I thought I would take my son to check the place out I got a shake and my son wanted one two except hes lactose intolerant. He was little bummed out when he couldn't have one, until the young man at the counter told him he could have a "Sorbet Soda" I had no clue what it was he explained as being it much similar to a shake but for people who were lactose intolerant or just didn't like ice cream. I thought it was very nice that he wanted to help my son out.My son did enjoy his lemon sorbet soda in fact he wanted ANOTHER ONE.The young man was very nice he even let me try as many flavors as I wanted. Even in it's new location, Purple Door Ice Cream frequently has a line running out the front door. Upon trying a dish or cone of one of their unique flavors, it becomes very clear why. Purple Door makes standard ice cream flavors such as chocolate or vanilla, but where they shine is in their creation of unique and sometimes local specific variations that are almost invariably spot on in their flavor recreations. A few of my favorites are Whisky, Brandy Old Fashioned, and simple Peanut Butter, but they have far out flavors ranging from Lemon Cardamom to Garam Masala to Cheesecake. There are seasonal flavors for any palette. Flavors wouldn't be worth much without ice cream that is well made, but luckily Purple Door's ice cream is some of the creamiest, smoothest and richest ice cream I have had. Purple Door is a place I bring out of town guests to show off what our area has to offer. Don't miss it.

Yum! I had the Juniper Lime and it was delicious. They have a pretty diverse and interesting selection. I would not recommend the waffle cone, it is not durable.
