Decent dessert spot with tons to choose from. This place is known for its cakes especially the chocolate ones. I tried to switch it up and got the carrot cake and it was alright. Not the best I’ve had and below average I think. Stick to the German chocolate or others

The German chocolate cake is a must ! So is the coconut ice cream with chocolate flakes. We had a slice of Aunt Etta…meh.. very dense, not fluffy or light or melt in your mouth, felt like we were eating brownies.

First time visiting The Chocolate Bar! It is a lovely Chocolate store with a variety of chocolates, cakes and ice cream. It is smaller and less decorative then I saw on TikTok but lovely none the less. I will say this, the only thing to sour our visit was the poor greeting upon entering. We got a quick hello from the 2 employees in the front that were chit-chatting with eachother but besides that, no real warm "welcome to the chocolate bar!" I told them it was our first time and they both were like ooooooh! but no further information on the store itself. I would've loved if they gave some wonderful intro about the background of the store. The chocolate itself is really special and tasty and reasonably priced. Will visit again ❤️

Staff here is AHMAZING! Incredibly friendly, kind, and allowed us to try out a few different flavors. Accommodating and helped us navigate all the products. Instantly felt welcome. They make their ice cream in house so it’s a lil different every time which is such a treat! No visit is exactly the same. Unique flavors make this a perfect spot to try something familiar yet with a new twist. Not pictured is cute 2 person booth seating and muted lights. Amazing dessert spot with open layout and plenty of chocolate products along the retail wall. The dark chocolate expresso ice cream was suuuper rich, not sure I could’ve had more than just the small size but it was decadent and hit the spot.

I was visiting and all of a sudden I was in the mood for something rich and chocolaty 😋. So naturally I googled "chocolate in Houston" and I stumbled across this chocolate dream. My fellow chocoholics this place has anything you may want when you have a craving. We got 2 slices of cake and on the way out I decided to get ice cream. So delish! I'd travel there again to get a whole cake, just because!

I have been totally disappointed in my search until I came here! Honey 🍯 Child! So many options. I love the flavor wedding cake, which most people never carry but they did! I love dark chocolate ice cream; not gelato 🤮! They have 2 different dark chocolate ice cream flavors. 🙏🏾but the funny thing is I left with vanilla (37 degrees out -what was I thinking 🥶) since I bought a slice of wedding cake the vanilla just goes with almond flavored cake. I love “real vanilla”. I like to taste the vanilla bean- ice cream just have the bean speckles. Anywoo, definitely worth they drop in if just for samples of ice cream.

Chocolate and Vanilla Tres Leches Uncle Darryl cake First thoughts-Uncle Darryl is the biggest slice I have ever seen for a cake! lol I love the toffee and chocolate sauce addition. I did think it was a little too rich for my liking and also on the dry side. I prefer a moist cake not a dry one. The chocolate and vanilla tres leches was good but one of the cake slices was broken. That's not cool. Price wise it is on the more expensive side. After all this place is located in the rice village area. Other than that dessert is good and I do want to try some others next time I go there.

My first time there yesterday three pieces cakes came out to be $30 kind of pricey, but cake size are reasonable. Tiramisu and Oreo cheesecake are alright could be better. The third one was the vanilla tres leches and it was dry. The place has nice atmosphere to chill.

This was my first time visiting The Chocolate Bar (now Winfield’s Chocolate Bar) since the apparent change in ownership. The Uncle Darryl cake has always been a family favorite - it’s pure decadence in a cake slice big enough for a family to share. The $12+ price tag is (usually) justified by the size and the taste. Unfortunately our recent experience here was a bit disappointing - part of the appeal and value of the cake is adding all of the works (chocolate sauce/fudge, chocolate chips, and toffee) onto the cake slice. On our recent visit they were out of everything except the toffee bits - the cake itself still tasted fine, but it’s just not the same without all of the indulgent toppings. How do you run a chocolate store but run out of chocolate sauce and chocolate chips???

On a whim I wanted cake today. So I came in here for some Vanilla Tres Leches and OMG cheesecake. The selection of cakes were spectacular. Woahhhh... Two slices of cake and a water was $25! That’s a steep price for cake but the slices they give you are pretty large, definitely a splurge for the wallet. I am disappointed that they didn’t have WiFi that reached to the “front” of the building. The staff said I would have to sit near the back and the name for the WiFi was weird and they weren’t sure if the WiFi even worked! So I used my hot spot. It doesn’t seem like the staff cleans regularly in the front. There was ice cream drops on the floor and plastic wrappers on the tables and ground. We had to wipe off our table and as you can see ice cream under our table. Gross! The OMG Cheesecake was very potent and strong chocolate peanut butter smell. The chocolate crust was very thick, filling and delicious. The Tres Leches comes in vanilla and chocolate. I got the vanilla, the texture was good but it could have been a tad bit more moist. Clearly by the photos there cake presentation is amazing and they provide individual wrapped utensils and boxes for each slice of cake. Staff is really friendly and nice. Next time if I’m in the mood for cake I’d get it to go! The dining area was empty and not very clean. PS: they used to offer 1/2 off dipped fruit after 8pm but stopped because of covid. It was a good deal I hope they bring it back! I miss my midnight chocolate dipped strawberries.

From the 3rd of February until the 6th of February I came to Houston Tx for a little early birthday trip and came back to The Chocolate Bar. I have to Admit it's changed so, so much from when I was younger to now. (Obviously things do change) but .... When I first came here, attached to it was an awesome candy store. It's sadly no longer here and it's just the chocolate bar. The chocolate of course is delicious and a variety of things to choose from so not bad, I'd just definitely prefer to come here if the candy store was still here. I won't be coming back due to this no longer being here and the ridiculous amount of time it takes just to park or find parking. it's extremely frustrating and just not worth all the hassle but did enjoy the chocolate covered rice crispies treat.

Awesome selection of everything sweet, and I highly approve of the half-off the price of chocolate dipped fruits once it gets close to closing time (exact time escapes me). No reason for good fruit to go bad, even if it does cost a little bit of profit. Had a slice of the NY Cheesecake and it tastes outstanding.

My husband and I always come for the awesome cakes and pastries. I always used to love coming here, the decor is great and this place literally makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. I always recommend friends to come here for a quick date night coffee. I was recently turned off during my last visit when I asked for a cup of water. The young man pointed me to the back of the store where the free water station was right outside of the bathroom. It would have been too easy for the cashier to hand me a cup of water instead. Chocolate Bar please fix this because you're ruining an otherwise pleasant experience.

First time here. Got the rainbow sherbet(a bit on the tangy side), chocolate fudge swirl, and an iced s’mores latte. Paid around $11. The ambience is a bit off. Half store to shop around half tables with the counter in the middle. Didn’t know where to order or how since each section has a different register and it was pretty busy for a Thursday so thankfully I asked another customer how it went about. Overall nice experience for the kiddos.

We came here last year when visiting and it was so good we came back again. There's a huge selection of chocolate, cakes, brownies, cookies, shakes, ice cream. It's all very indulgent, the cakes are light though and so was the tiramisu that I had. The brownies are delicious but probably best to share!

The Chocolate Bar was absolutely heavenly!! There are only two locations in Texas, and I am so jealous that there are none like it in NY!! You can get holiday themed chocolate (this time it was Valentine's Day), different chocolates based on the occasion, such as graduating from college, weddings, baby showers, or even treats for your dog! They also have a counter where you can buy small individually covered things in chocolate or other sweets, such as truffles, covered strawberries, or even things like pringles and pretzels! I didn't get to try it, but I believe they also sell ice cream and other dishes, as well as having a sit down side of the shop to enjoy them!

The Chocolate bar is a small dessert shop offering chocolate, truffles, ice cream and pastries. Plan on spending $7 to $10 per item. The music is subtle and there is plenty of seating. The three downsides to visiting: 1. Free parking is very limited. Parking is paid for unless you use the garage across the street which is free for 2 hours or the few spots at the store front. 2. Bathrooms were dirty and smelled pretty bad 3. After buying 2 desserts to share with my wife, a box of truffles and a slice of cake to go I asked to purchase a glass of water and was told I would have to use the water fountain by the disgusting bathrooms. This ruined the visit and I will not be back.

Best ice cream place. Sugar cones are free here. Our favorite is snowberry - vanilla ice cream with strawberries and flaky chocolate! We buy a double scoop and eat in sugar cones! Their all chocolate cake is good, but not a cake fan so look for other reviews.

It’s my second time coming here and won’t be my last!! All of your chocolate dreams will be fulfilled when you step in. I’ve had German Chocolate, Aunt Etta (favorite), wedding cake, peanut butter cheesecake, Uncle Darryl and ice cream. The slices are huge and perfect for sharing. Until we meet again Chocolate Bar!

Great desserts including macarons, cookies, two full refrigerated cases of cakes, ice cream, and chocolate covered fruit and chocolate covered other things as well but the service at the chocolate strawberry case was atrocious (my group thought he was stoned). I don't think the person helping had never dealt with the public before or had any training. Just based on that experience I would never come here again but I don't think the rest of the people here or like that so I'm willing to give him another chance.

When we have something to celebrate, we head to The Chocolate Bar. German Chocolate Cake that will rock your socks! Aunt Etta's rich Chocolate Cake that will make your troubles seem far away. Strawberry Cake that all little girls squeal for. Hands down, one of the best places for a piece of cake in Houston.

We always get our cakes here- excellent for big parties. My personal fav is the Boston cream pie (55$) but they have huge two layer cakes (like the one in pic for 75$). Only drawback, they don’t make the cakes daily- even if you order them in advance. They’re always max 1 week old but if I call a week ahead I would prefer to have it made the morning of. European standards :) still only once I had a cake that tasted old (over ~10 cakes/3years).

The Chocolate Bar is located in Rice Village. Metered parking is available, and 2 hour free parking in one of the two garages within a block or two of the restaurant. There are a few spots that are free after 6pm but they're usually all filled up especially on the weekends. This establishment has long been a great staple of Rice Village. The inside is very open and inviting. There is a rather large seating area with booths along the wall and free-standing tables. Of note, there are no visible outlets so you wouldn't really be able to stay here for prolonged periods of time studying or working per se. On Thursday nights the tables and chairs get pushed back and the local swing dance society comes out to dance the night away; even if you're not interested in dancing it's nice just to come hear the music and watch others glide across the floor. Another cool thing is that the chocolate bar offers carob treats for our four-legged friends; whenever I need to get a gift for someone with a pup I venture here first to peruse their carob selection. The treats come shaped like little bones in various sizes and with their very own little doggy bowls. They also have a nice selection of ice creams - I usually get the snowberry. The cone is at now extra charge and the price is pretty reasonable $4.28 with tax for one scoop.

If you can think of it, they have it in chocolate. There are strawberries, bananas, rice krispy treats, actual wine bottles, and doggie biscuits. They also have about a dozen different ice cream flavors, some cookies, brownies, and cakes. Funny thing. Out of all the chocolate, I picked a piece of peanut butter fudge. It was super rich. Only took four small bites and felt like I almost ODed. If you indulge at the chocolate bar, make sure you have a designated driver. #Don’t chocolate 🍫 and drive.

So there’s a cake place called Cake Bake in Indianapolis, and supposedly Oprah claims it’s the best chocolate cake in the country. Well I’m here to tell you Oprah is wrong lol. The Aunt Etta cake is the BEST chocolate cake ever. Four layers of moist and fluffy cake with double fudge icing… it’s chocolate heaven. No other cake I’ve ever had, including Cake Bake’s chocolate cake, has ever gotten close.

Every time I take my children their eyes light up with all of the fun options! Everyone who works there is extremely helpful and friendly. I love this place. We visited April 2018. I had an intense craving for a chocolate brownie and was completely satisfied. The brownie was huge, dense and moist. Ate it in 2 sittings. I was also excited that they offered soy milk. The staff was welcoming and energetic. So happy to stumble across this place and can't wait to go back, next time I'm in town. **Was just as great the 2nd time around in 2019. Haven't found a place to top it yet. Awesome place. First time here at their main and only location. I been previously going to the old W Alabama location that’s permanently closed. This location is larger and I don’t feel as crammed. Variety is great, service is great, sweet tooth cravings are resolved here. Wish parking was a little more friendly - trying to park a truck in tiny spaces along W University is a challenge.

I love chocolate 🍫 so my review might be biased, but I loved it here 🙃 ...just bought one slice of cake and it was so yummy! Nice serving.. Ate it over a course of three days. So excited I forgot to take a picture. I'll definitely go back. We received a small discount as the slice of cake we got was broken. Small amount of ppl were dining in, I didn't, but employees wore mask as they served.

It's a super cute place for friends, family, or date night. Their ice cream selection is wonderful with a great variety of flavors to choose from. I also tried their hot chocolate and lattes. Unfortunately, their service is slow, you have to grab their attention, and prepare yourself to wait for your order. Everything was pretty good, we had chocolate covered strawberries, pretzels and I still have an all chocolate rose in the fridge. It was late when we arrived so in fairness some things might have been sold out. Good overall especially for a late night treat. I wasn't crazy about the Ice cream selection so I passed on it. Out of 15 cakes, they only had one, which was a flourless chocolate cake. It tasted good, but something I could have baked myself. The chocolate on the shelves was quite expensive.

This is definitely a fun place; from the purple walls to the piles of sweets, everything about this place feels like an indulgent treat. The menu is a chocolate lover's dream, and there are many options that would make excellent gifts. The cake slices are so huge that I don't mind sharing. I like coming when the swing dancers have cleared a small area to dance. The only drawback is that when it is too crowded, the tables can get a little messy and it can be hard to see all the delicious options.

Long time fan of the chocolate bar until our recent visit. It’s been remodeled. They added seating which is nice but it’s so bland now. Also was super disappointed that they “ran out” of sugar cones. Those are free with the super pricey ice cream but since they ran our only other options was the pricey waffle cone. Ergh. Getting too expensive to visit the Rice Village shops nowadays. disappointed.

This place has a very whimsical vibe. It's a cool place for children and adults alike. There are so many different desserts to choose from, including cakes, ice cream, milkshakes, and half off the chocolate covered fruits after 8pm. My favorite thing is the creamy dreamy truffle cake. If you love chocolate, this is the place to be. There is also a candy section for the non-chocolate lovers.

It was our first time here and the two young ladies behind the counter were kind enough to let us know everything they offered. We were told they had recently remodeled. Very beautiful inside. Who would think to add cranberries and nuts to chocolate ice cream or mix a half dozen different nuts into creamy chocolate? Next up is coffee, hot chocolate and amazing cakes, if ice cream isn't your choice. Peruse the old-fashioned candy section with childhood favorites hard to find. For real fun, check out the molded chocolates with designs from everything musical to medical to baby, birthday and wedding designs. Then turn around and ogle the individual chocolates to purchase by the pound. Yummy!

A great spot for cute chocolate shapes! They have golfing molds, girly molds, doctor, dad, mom, and assorted letters. Reasonably priced. Their ice cream is interesting because it is normal flavors but with something else blended. I got tiramisu and it was good. They recently added a 'tiny' cup so you don't have to get 2 scoops each time. Their cake looks delicious and is made in-house! I will be trying these next time.

The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the cakes can be a little better. The cakes are good until they become old and not fresh anymore. I rarely go now, not because everything's so expensive, but because the people that work there, almost demand that you tip them every time you go to the counter. They all have to share it, and I'm sure the owner doesn't pay them much more than the minimum required by law. After coming to TCB for years, we moved away and came back tonight after two years to be extremely disappointed. They have some great new ice cream flavors which were nice to try, but the value just isn’t there anymore. They have re-formatted their layout to get rid of the candy corner, got rid of the wall with their newspaper shoutouts in place of a more upscale feel in Rice Village. The main reason for the dissatisfaction is the price of their ice cream in relation to the amount they give you. Years ago you just got more, and the price was relatively the same. Now, the amount they give you is less than ideal. The value just isn’t there anymore. We won’t be coming back anytime soon, unfortunately but hopefully everyone else can have a good time if they welcome paying more, for less.

Mini version of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, the Chocolate Bar is a golden ticketed paradise for all chocolate/sweet lovers. Any selection offered at this establishment is sure to soothe that hungry sweet tooth. Take your pick from all the different types and flavors of cakes, chocolates/truffles, homemade ice creams, cookies, brownies, etc. Be sure to try Aunt Etta's Chocolate Cake, which is four layers of delicious, moist chocolate cake layered with rich chocolate icing. Prices for these large slices of cakes can be on the higher side, but you can ask for the "oops" cake (slices of cake that are slightly imperfect) option, which is essentially the same cake but sold as at a discount. There are plenty of gift arrangement packages and boxed treats to pick up as an easy present. Not to mention, hours of operation remain open pretty late so you can pick up a quick treat till 10pm on weekdays or midnight on weekends (Fri & Sat).

Really great expresso and close to a great little area of restaurants shops and boutiques. Nifty little chocolate gifts on one side of the store and a fun atmosphere on the other where we can sit down. There is a wide range of patrons, and most recently went after dark on the weekend, and the croud was mostly unchaperoned teenagers, who all well behaved and respectful to each other, and to those around them. I try and go here for expresso before we leave, for if we go here first before shopping I purchase too many books at the used bookstore next door.

Slow decline into mediocrity. We have been coming to this location for nearly ten years. The Candylicious store next door was absorbed into a corner of the Chocolate Bar, which was fine, it was a fun, colorful corner, which really needed some more eclectic choices, but now it is gone completely, which is sad. It seems now, over the past year and a half or so, that every time we go in, something else is missing - decorations are removed and not replaced, entire stands, once stocked full of interesting chocolate creations, are gone entirely, leaving the shoppe side feeling barren and empty. The chocolate making machines are no longer on premesis, and the fresh fruit is now refrigerated. Today, the awful dance music was cranked up loud, and with almost no decorations to dampen the echo, everyone there had to shout to be heard. The place is simply not fun any more.
