The ice cream and cone are so yummy! This is definitely one of our go to icecream places. Our favorites are cookies and cream, and cookies and cream/ube twist. You can also fill your cone and pick your free toppings. My family gets Nutella in their cones. ❤️. Super yummy. It's located at the mall.

Very cute desert shop! They had so many options on their menu. We went with a taro and a Nutella Taiyaki. The taiyakis take around 10 mins. The taro taiyaki was so good and had a very rich flavour. For both taiyakis the dough was soft and chewy, but still had a nice crust. I recommend trying this place out!

Not just a novelty. Taiyaki has been popular in Japan for over 100 years and tastes good enough for return trips. Choice of four flavors of Taiyaki pastries, sweet or savory & more flavors of the soft serve Ah Boon, which comes with your choice of fun toppings & a coating inside the " fish, besides the soft serve." The soft serve in the Ah boon melts pretty soon, so the suggestion to get it "upside down" in a cup with the pastry fish on top is a good one.

I really like their ice cream. They always have special tastes other than regular tastes. Also they are offering many toppings, so I can enjoy different tastes of ice creams whenever I go there. Just one thing what I want them to improve is to provide other sizes of ice cream cup because they have only one size.

Decent ice cream. I got the ube/matcha swirl. Probably wouldn't be my first choice to come back here. Haven't been here for a while but I remembered the fish being served with it's mouth open and the ice cream on top versus upside down in a cup. The Nutella filing was a good ratio and I enjoyed the ice cream not being to sweet. However I don't feel their quality of ice cream is as good as it once used to be. And parking always is hard.

Extremely sweet. I love the fish waffle tho. Very nice artwork for pictures. Got the milk soft serve this time and it was very tasty. They need to offer the cup for the upright fish too. The ice cream melted all over my hand through the pouch especially when you bite into the fish 1/2020 still tasty. I wanted to try their black sesame flavor but they didn’t have it just the topping.

Favorite place to get ice cream on Oahu. Especially a favorite for those that enjoy milk tea but also a favorite for those that just love a good soft-serve. The taiyaki is the best base I've had for ice cream. Think warm handheld waffle that is perfectly chewy on the inside but just the right crisp on the outside. Definitely enjoy the nutella, red bean or custard filling with milk tea, oreo, or milk ice cream. Just wish the milk tea flavor was always on the menu because it's the best flavor and tastes just like the best kind of traditional black milk tea that isn't too sweet and actually tastes like tea

We choose Aboong (upside down) with milk&ube icecream filled with red bean. If you don’t want to be messed up, choose Aboing (upside down). The bread’s texture is so crispy and chewy. The ice cream is quite sweet but yummy.

Cute, delicious and filling. Taiyaki cone is like a waffle cone soft and chewy with a bit of a crisp. Soft serve is good, with a number of choices or swirls to choose from. They fit in a surprising amount. Then choose the topping (one included with the base cost) and they finish with a chewy, soft small macaron or orchid.

Fun little shop. I had the matcha swirl, I didn't care for it, but that's just personal preference. The staff was super nice and you have the option of unlimited toppings. It was fun to watch them making the fish cones while we waited in line.

My wife wanted to try this place so off we went on a Sunday. There was a line, but within 5 minutes we were ordering our ah-boong. I got the matcha/oreo with custard filling. If you're a matcha/green tea person this ones for you. I loved the texture of the icecream. Although the matcha flavor was strong, I couldn't taste the oreo flavor? This dessert is on another level, you have a creamy soft serve with the crispy outside of the fish waffle. My new favorite dessert. Definitely will be back.

I got the ube and milk swirl ice cream and it was so good!!! I’m so happy I got to try this before I left Hawai’i. 10/10 recommend! Just know that it’s located on the first floor, on the outside of the food court next to the parking lot!

We love the ube ice cream inside a fish-shaped waffle. We also ordered the taro taiyaki, but they were too sweet. Next time we want to try the matcha ice-cream!

Super yummy!! Everything about this place is amazing. The ice cream is delicious and tastes really fresh, you can watch them make the fish cones, and the staff are all very sweet. It’s my new favorite ice cream spot. The soft, fish cone tastes like a waffle and I highly recommend the custard filling, and I really like how they rotate what flavors they swirl together each week. In the picture I got ube and Oreo which was delicious and the next time I went I got ube and matcha which is my favorite. The only downside is that the ice cream melts a bit quick but they can put it in a bowl upside down and that works perfectly.

This place is quite popular, but it's worth it! We got the taiyaki like everyone else, and it was really good. It's cool that you get unlimited add-ons as well.

Yummy ice cream and chewy/crispy taiyaki!! Loved the presentation and the taste! $6 well spent for ice cream. Taiyaki can be a bit filling so I wouldn't suggest it if you are full and there is usually a line... so be patient.

Different flavored ice cream. I had the Matcha and Ube swirl ice cream in a cup with Nutella inside the fish waffle cone. The fish part is a soft cone but delicious!!! If you are unsure of a flavor ice cream, google it and you can find out what it may taste like. They let us sample the two flavors. I prefer the green one. They also allow you to choose as many toppings as you want at the end of the assembly line, including, sprinkles, some small kinds of cereal like fruity pebbles, graham cracker crumbs etc. I did not really care for the ice cream flavors but it was fun to try something new. They have other kinds like Oreo. Only 6 flavors to choose from the swirl options change every Monday. They also top it off with your choice of an orchid flower or macaroon.

Matcha swirl was delicious! Taiyaki paired nicely with their soft serve and has a nice mochi texture. However their soft serve melts very quickly and it is a bit troublesome to eat the ice cream out of the taiyaki like you would with a regular cone. Would recommend a using a spoon.

Sooo good! I love trying new things and have a bit of a sweet tooth, and SOMISOMI hit the spot! Their bean paste filling is soo good! Even my husband, who doesn't like sweets, loved the bean paste. Line seems long, but it moves fast. Love their presentation! Definitely recommend!

Somisomi is so so lovely. It is a walk up window and you order through a microphone. I got the 2 Taiyaki for about $6. Mine were filled with Nutella. It takes 5 minutes to cook since they make them ready to order. This means they are piping for you to eat. They were just as good as when we were in Japan. Highly recommend.

This is really good stuff. The freshly made fish waffle is very good and so very enjoyable when it is still hot. Fill it with the taro and it is just amazing. The Ube soft service is fantastic as well. The line can be long and make you want to skip it, but he move right along and in the end, you get something that is fresh and really good. It is worth the wait for the quality. Staff are all friendly and seem on it. If you get the soft serve with the fish waffle, I recommend getting it in a cup. It could get messy with the melting and it is easier to hold and enjoy that way while eating this delectable delight.

SomiSomi is good wherever it is and this one is no exception. The flavors are a bit more limited here on the island but the taste and texture is consistent with the rest. Recommend trying it out if you can!

Fun flavors and fun presentations. Plus you can consider your desserts fully customizable: filling, ice cream, toppings. As a Hawaii resident, I like that I can try this place again and again with different options each time. *Update* In July 2020 one of their flavor options was Milk Tea, and it was incredible. I've had actual milk teas that dont taste as good as this did. Additionally, they made some storefront changes to separate the food and employees more from the crowds that can form outside of the walk up counter. I believe you still get to see the full experience of watching the fish cones get made, but everyone gets to be safer during COVID-19.

There are two kinds you can get, the ah-boong or the taiyaki. The ah-boong is customizable by the filing, soft-served ice cream, and your choice of toppings. Whereas the taikyaki is the pastries with five different fillings. My absolute favorite filling is the custard. The custard is just the right texture and the right amount of sweets. The pastries were also extra crispy and made fresh. Came out still very warm so be careful when digging in. The staff were also friendly. We spoke with the manager and he said they're opening one in Houston this year so I am super excited about that. Can't wait for them to bring taiyaki to Houston.

Loved it! Ube and milk soft serve was deliciously creamy. I could taste the sweet potato flavor. Taiyaki was really good too. Very crispy vs. the usual mushy frozen treat. Red bean filling was a bit too sweet.

The ice cream and taiyaki here are decent and nothing mindblowing. You have typical Japanese ice cream flavors like green tea and black sesame which is a plus, and the service is pretty friendly. Also, it looks pretty if that is something you care about.

Somisomi’s Taiyaki was the warmest, most crunchy yet soft fish shaped cake I ever had. A friend told me they probably use mochi powder in the batter. Either way, I loved everything about this place. The cold Ube and Matcha soft serve complimented the warm Taiyaki perfectly! Can’t wait to try the other flavors. It is located ground level just outside of the central Ala Moana food court, next to Curry House. Their store front looks toward Ala Moana Beach Park.

I've had this on the main land and I had a very good experience in the past. Went a bit late in the evening towards closing and the somisomi's lacked filling, but were very crispy. Overall, I should of passed on the calories. fyi, my wife and I had cheddar and custard. I ate the custard and thought it was cheese and she had cheese and thought it was custard until the very end...

SomiSomi is the new soft serve place just outside Ala Moana’s food court on the parking lot side next to Coco ICHIBANYA. You can’t miss it. Just look for the line. Yes, there will be a line but it does go quickly. The Ah-Boong is the soft serve in a fish-shaped waffle cone. The taiyaki is the fish shaped waffle with different types of filling options — from Nutella to red bean. The soft serve is decent but the waffles are the best part. The ube is tasty as well as the ube and cookies and cream mix. Just before you get your Ah-Boong you get the option of a macaroon or an edible flower as a topping. Get the macaroon. The flower tastes like a flower. What do you expect? You can also get toppings such as graham cracker, cookie crumbs, and gummies.

really appreciate the workers! they were taking on some big orders. i got the ube soft serve with custard lined taiyaki. so good! no seating at the storefront but there’s seating right inside the food court. hawaii has strict protocols rn cause covid so most if not all indoor dining requires proof of vaccine.

Soft ice cream that feels like eating soft ice cream with Taiyaki. You can use credit cards. You can choose from four types of taiyaki fillings, such as Nutella or custard. The taiyaki is chewy and delicious, but when asked if I want to go again, I say no more.

Taiyaki, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, served in a cup with Taro and matcha soft, topped with taiyaki with red bean paste on the inside. After the meal, the family shared one. Quite voluminous. Taro (purple sweet potato) soft serve is delicious! This is about $6 including tax, but since it was after dinner, it was enough for a family of four to share. One person can't finish eating one.
